Amaç: Bu çalışma, COVID-19 pandemisi sürecinde klinik uygulama yapamayan İlk ve Acil Yardım öğrencilerinin mesleki yaşamları ile ilgili kaygı düzeylerinin ve ilişkili faktörlerini belirlemek amacıyla yapıldı. Yöntem: Kesitsel tanımlayıcı nitelikte olan bu araştırmanın evrenini üç üniversitenin İlk ve Acil Yardım Programında öğrenim gören öğrenciler oluşturdu. Araştırmada örneklem seçimine gidilmedi. Ocak 2020-Mart 2020 tarihleri arasında araştırmaya katılmayı kabul eden 379 öğrenci ile çalışma yürütüldü. Veriler Kişisel Bilgi Formu ve Acil Sağlık Çalışanları için Mesleki Kaygı Ölçeği kullanılarak online olarak toplandı. Araştırma için etik kurul ve kurum izinleri alındı. Veriler Statistical Package for Social Science 25 programıyla analiz edilip, değerlendirmede; sayı, yüzde, ortalama, standart sapma ve bağımsız örneklem t testi kullanıldı. Bulgular: Öğrencilerin mesleki kaygı düzeyine ilişkin ölçek puan ortalamaları 3,32±0,84 olarak bulundu. Kadınların, ikinci sınıfların, mesleğe başlamak için kendisini hazır hissetmeyenlerin, hastaya müdahale ederken korku yaşayacağını düşünenlerin, uzaktan eğitimin mesleki bilgiyi olumsuz etkilediğini düşünenlerin, yapmaktan korktuğu klinik uygulama olanların ve olumsuz deneyim yaşamaktan korkanların kaygı puanları istatistiksel olarak anlamlı olup kaygı düzeyleri daha yüksek bulundu (p

Aim: Congenital Bilateral Absence of the Vas Deferens (CBAVD) is a developmental abnormality that causes infertility in males. According to the literature, up to 88% of CBAVD cases have at least one pathogenic Cystic Fibrosis Transmembrane Conductance Regulator gene (CFTR) mutation. However, based on our previous data, this rate was 15.90% in Turkish patients with CBAVD. We aimed to identify genomic copy number variations (CNV) and candidate genomic regions which could related to the CBAVD in Turkish population.Methods: CNV analysis was performed in 19 Turkish CBAVD patients normal karyotypes and a wild type CFTR genotype. We suggested that the DAD1 gene may be a candidate gene related to CBAVD by reviewing online databases and analyzing CNV findings. Sanger sequencing of the DAD1 gene exons was performed in 22 patients.Results: We identified 11 CNVs that most likely related with the disease in nine of 19 (47.3%) patients. As the most common CNV, 14q11.2 deletions were detected in there (15.79%) of the patients. There was only DAD1 gene in the sharing genomic region of two of the 14q11.2 deletions. No sequence variation was detected in the DAD1 gene of the patients.Conclusion: The 14q11.2 chromosomal region and the DAD1 gene may be associated with CBAVD. Further studies are needed to indentify the contribution of CNVs and DAD1 gene to CBAVD etiology.

Objectives To determine the demographic, clinical, and genetic profile of Turkish Caucasian PCD cases. Methods Targeted next-generation sequencing (t-NGS) of 46 nuclear genes was performed in 21 unrelated PCD cases. Sanger sequencing confirmed of potentially disease-related variations, and genotype-phenotype correlations were evaluated. Results Disease-related variations were identified in eight different genes (CCDC39, CCDC40, CCDC151, DNAAF2, DNAAF4, DNAH11, HYDIN, RSPH4A) in 52.4% (11/21) of the cases. The frequency of variations for CCDC151, DNAH11, and DNAAF2 genes which were highly mutated genes in the cohort was 18% in 11 patients. Each of the remaining gene variations was detected once (9%) in different patients. The variants, p.R482fs*12 in CCDC151, p.E216* in DNAAF2, p.I317* in DNAAF4, p.L318P and p.R1865* in DNAH11, and p.N1505D and p.L1167P in HYDIN gene were identified as novel variations. Interestingly, varying phenotypic findings were identified even in patients with the same mutation, which once again confirmed that PCD has a high phenotypic heterogeneity and shows individual differences. Conclusion This t-NGS panel is potentially helpful for exact and rapid identification of reported/novel PCD-disease-causing variants to establish the molecular diagnosis of ciliary diseases.

Background and Purpose: Difficulty in acceptance of illness and adherence to fluid control are common in patients receiving haemodialysis treatment, and they are associated with higher morbidity and mortality. This study aims to identify the effects of the training based on the Roy Adaptation Model, which is given to patients receiving haemodialysis treatment on the acceptance of illness, and adherence to fluid control. Methods: The study was designed as a nonrandomised interventional study. This study was conducted with 81 patients, who received haemodialysis treatment. The experimental group was given training according to the Roy Adaptation Model for six months. Data were collected through the Patient Identification Form, Acceptance of Illness Scale, and Fluid Control Scale in Haemodialysis Patients. Results: While the difference between the experimental and control groups’ second interview Acceptance of Illness Scale mean score was not statistically significant, the difference between the score of Fluid Control Scale in Haemodialysis Patients were statistically significant. Conclusions: The training based on the Roy Adaptation Model given to the experimental group caused an increase in adherence to fluid control but had no effects on the acceptance of illness levels.

OZ Amac: Bu arastirma, hemsirelik intorn uygulamasinin ogrencilerin hemsirelik egitiminden aldiklari doyuma etkisini belirlemek amaciyla gerceklestirildi. Yontem: Arastirmanin evrenini Mayis-Haziran 2017 tarihleri arasinda Ataturk Universitesi Hemsirelik Fakultesi’nde okuyan toplam 321 hemsirelik intorn ogrencisi olusturdu. Orneklemi ise bu tarihler arasinda arastirmaya katilmayi kabul eden 285 ogrenci olusturdu. OBJECTIVE: To compare class I/II cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) mutations to class III-V mutations with regards to cystic fibrosis disease severity markers in children. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This study was designed as a cross-sectional study in Antalya province, located on the south coast of Turkey. The study included 38 cystic fibrosis patients aged between 0.6 and 18 years. The CFTR genotype of the patients was categorized into 2 groups based on the presence or absence of class I or class II mutations in any of the alleles. Group I comprised 8 homozygous, 8 with unknown alleles, and 8 compound heterozygous patients, and group II comprised 11 homozygous and 3 compound heterozygous patients. The groups were analyzed in respect of cystic fibrosis disease severity markers, such as spirometry, ShwachmanKulczycki score, body mass index (BMI), sweat chloride concentration, chronic Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection, annual exacerbation frequency, and severe exacerbations requiring hospitalization during the previous year. RESULTS: In the comparison of group I and group II patients, a significant difference was observed in pancreas insufficiency (83.3% vs. 35.7%; P = .005), chronic P. aeruginosa infection (58.3% vs. 7.1%; P = .002), cough severity score (1.7 ± 1.1 vs. 0.9 ± 1.5; P = .029), number of severe exacerbations requiring hospitalization during the previous year (0.9 ± 1 vs. 0.3 ± 0.8; P = .03), and sweat chloride levels (76.7 ± 15.2 vs. 61 ± 22.3; P = .02). All these values were higher in group I patients. The mean BMI values (15.8 ± 2.2 vs. 17.6 ± 2.8; P = .03) were lower in group I patients. CONCLUSION: There seems to be a difference between class I/II CFTR mutations and class III-V mutations on the severity of the disease in cystic fibrosis patients.

avci, ilknur Aydin/0000-0002-5379-3038 WOS: 000463466900005 PubMed: 31001611 Objective: The aim of this study is to examine the illness perceptions of women with breast cancer and possible relationships between these perceptions and descriptive characteristics such as sociodemographic and clinical characteristics in Turkey. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted in compliance with correlational, descriptive research principles. Three hundred eighty women with breast cancer who were treated in various hospitals in seven regions of the country were included in the study. A sociodemographic and clinical characteristics form, and The Illness Perception Questionnaire were used for data collection. Results: The mean age of the patients with breast cancer was 49.8 +/- 11.5, among them, 83.95% were married, 37.37% were at stage 2 breast cancer, and 67.11% experienced mastectomy. It was found that the patients perceived higher personal control over illness (20.88 +/- 4.76). The patients perceived most common risk factors as the cause of the illness (19.42 +/- 6.38). This study show that variety sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of the patients affected their perceptions of illness. Conclusion: The meaning of illness from the perspective of patient with breast cancer should be assessed. The care, education and counselling programs should be planned according to the patient's illness perceptions.

Amaç: Araştırma Tip 2diyabetli hastalarda diyabet kontrolünü zorlaştıran faktörlerin belirlenmesiamacıyla yapılmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı olarak yapılan buaraştırma Van Bölge Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi iç hastalıklarıpolikliniklerinde yapılmıştır. Araştırma Nisan-Ağustos 2015 tarihleri arasındamuayene ve kontrol için başvuran ve araştırma kriterlerine uyan 150 Tip 2Diyabetli hasta ile yürütülmüştür. Hastaların kişisel ve ıbbi özelliklerininbelirlenmesi için ''Hasta Bilgi Formu'' ve diyabet kontrolünü zorlaştıranfaktörlerin belirlenmesi için ''Diyabet Bakım Profili'' ölçeği kullanılmıştır.Verilerin analizi SPSS 23 paket programı ile yapılmıştır.Bulgular: Çalışmayaalınan hastasının yaş ortalaması 56.77±10.43 yıl, Açlık Kan Şekeri ortalama214.04±87.74, HbA1c ortalaması 10.17±2.63 ve Beden Kitle İndeksi 29.53±5.05 bulunmuştur. Diyabetlihastaların diyabet yönetimini zorlaştıran faktörlerden en yüksek puanortalaması negatif tutum (3.09±1.14)alt boyutunda bulunmuştur. Çalışmanın amacı: Bu çalışma, Ankara’da bir devlet üniversitesinde Eğitim Fakültesi bünyesinde faaliyet gösteren Eğitimde İnsan Kaynaklarını Geliştirme Tezsiz Yüksek Lisans Programını paydaşların görüşleri doğrultusunda değerlendirmeyi amaçlamaktadır. Materyal ve Yöntem: Bu nitel değerlendirme çalışmasında, araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen bir anket ve yarı yapılandırılmış bireysel görüşmeler yoluyla veri toplanmıştır. Programa kayıtlı olan öğrencilere (n = 15) ve programdan mezun öğrencilerden erişilebilir olanlara (n = 60) anket uygulanmıştır. Daha sonra amaçlı örneklem yöntemi kullanılarak görüşme yapılacak katılımcılar belirlenmiştir. Bu kapsamda, öğrenci (n = 5) ve mezunlardan (n = 20) gönüllü olanlarla yarı yapılandırılmış bireysel görüşmeler gerçekleştirilmiştir. Anket sonuçları, betimsel analizin ardından frekans ve yüzdeler yoluyla paylaşılmıştır. Nitel verilerin analizinde ise içerik analizi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. İçerik analizi sonucu nitel verilerden anlamlı parçalara kodlar atanmış ve birbiriyle ilişkili olan kodlar bir araya getirilerek kategoriler oluşturulmuştur. Bunlar: 1) katılımcıları programı seçmesinde etkili olan faktörler, 2) katılımcıların programdan beklentilerinin karşılanma derecesi, 3) programın güçlü yanları, 4) program süresince karşılaşılan zorluklar, 5) programın geliştirilmesi gereken yönleri şeklinde listelenmiştir.Bulgular: Bulgular, katılımcıların programa kayıt olmasındaki en önemli faktörlerin mesleki gelişim (n = 56) ve üniversitenin alandaki itibarı (n = 56) şeklinde sıraladığını ortaya koymaktadır. Ayrıca, katılımcılar, programın kişisel ilgilerini karşılamada (n = 54) ve mesleki gelişime katkı anlamında (n = 49) başarılı olduğunu vurgulamıştır. Bunların dışında, stajyerlik ve akşam derslerine yönelik belirtilen aksaklıklara karşın, programın öğrencilere insan kaynakları alanıyla ilgili gerekli bilgi ve beceri kazandırma konusunda başarılı bulunduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.Önemli Vurgular: Bulguların programın yeniden düzenlenmesinde katkı sağlaması beklenmektedir. Son olarak, gelecekte, işverenlerin görüşmelere dâhil edilmesi ve programa kayıtlı öğrenci ve mezunların iş yerlerinde gözlemler yapılması ile daha zengin sonuçlara ulaşılmasına olanak sağlayacak çalışmalar yapılması öngörülmektedir., Purpose: This study intended to evaluate Human Resources Development in Education program, a non-thesis graduate program offered within the Education Faculty of a public university located in Ankara, based on the perceptions of the stakeholders. Design/Methodology/Approach: In this qualitative evaluation study, the data were collected through a questionnaire, developed by the researchers, and semi-structured individual interviews. The questionnaire was administered to current students (n = 15) and available graduate students (n = 60). Later, a purposeful sampling method was used to select the participants for the interviews. In this regard, volunteer students (n = 5) and graduates (n = 20) of the program were involved in semi-structured individual interviews. The questionnaire was descriptively analyzed and presented in the form of frequencies and percentages. The qualitative data, on the other hand, were content analyzed. In doing so, codes were assigned to meaningful segments, and categories were generated through bringing the codes together which are listed as (1) the factors that affect participants’ preferences to the program; (2) the degree to which participants’ expectations from the program were met; (3) strengths of the program; (4) the difficulties encountered during the program; and (5) the aspects of the program that need improvement.Findings: The findings reveal that professional development (n = 56) and the reputation of the university (n =56) are ranked among the chief factors affecting the participants’ enrollment in the program. In addition, the participants emphasized that the program was successful in meeting their expectations regarding personal interest (n = 54) and professional development (n = 49). Besides, despite the deficiencies such as internship and evening classes, it was unveiled that the program was found to be successful in equipping the students with the knowledge and skills specified in the field of human resources.Highlights: The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the revising of the program. Besides, the results are expected to guide the development of similar programs and evaluation of the current programs within higher education institutions. Lastly, future studies might be conducted to reach enhanced findings through interviewing with also employers and conducting observations at workplaces of the students and graduates.

Background Craniosynostosis is described as the premature fusion of cranial sutures that belongs to a group of alterations which produce an abnormal phenotype. Case report Two unrelated female patients with clinical findings of Apert syndrome-characterized by acrocephaly, prominent frontal region, flat occiput, ocular proptosis, hypertelorism, down-slanted palpebral fissures, midfacial hypoplasia, high-arched or cleft palate, short neck, cardiac anomalies and symmetrical syndactyly of the hands and feet-are present. In both patients, a heterozygous missense mutation (c.755C>G, p.Ser252Trp) in the FGFR2 gene was identified. Conclusions Two cases of Apert syndrome are described. It is important to recognize this uncommon entity through clinical findings, highlight interdisciplinary medical evaluation, and provide timely genetic counseling for the family.

Background Diagnosis of primary immunodeficiencies (PIDs) is complex and cumbersome yet important for the clinical management of the disease. Exome sequencing may provide a genetic diagnosis in a significant number of patients in a single genetic test. Methods In May 2013, we implemented exome sequencing in routine diagnostics for patients suffering from PIDs. This study reports the clinical utility and diagnostic yield for a heterogeneous group of 254 consecutively referred PID patients from 249 families. For the majority of patients, the clinical diagnosis was based on clinical criteria including rare and/or unusual severe bacterial, viral, or fungal infections, sometimes accompanied by autoimmune manifestations. Functional immune defects were interpreted in the context of aberrant immune cell populations, aberrant antibody levels, or combinations of these factors. Results For 62 patients (24%), exome sequencing identified pathogenic variants in well-established PID genes. An exome-wide analysis diagnosed 10 additional patients (4%), providing diagnoses for 72 patients (28%) from 68 families altogether. The genetic diagnosis directly indicated novel treatment options for 25 patients that received a diagnosis (34%). Conclusion Exome sequencing as a first-tier test for PIDs granted a diagnosis for 28% of patients. Importantly, molecularly defined diagnoses indicated altered therapeutic options in 34% of cases. In addition, exome sequencing harbors advantages over gene panels as a truly generic test for all genetic diseases, including in silico extension of existing gene lists and re-analysis of existing data. While recent studies have revealed a substantial portion of the genes underlying human hearing loss, the extensive genetic landscape has not been completely explored. Here, we report a loss-of-function variant (c.72delA) in MPZL2 in three unrelated multiplex families from Turkey and Iran with autosomal recessive nonsyndromic hearing loss. The variant co-segregates with moderate sensorineural hearing loss in all three families. We show a shared haplotype flanking the variant in our families implicating a single founder. While rare in other populations, the allele frequency of the variant is ~ 0.004 in Ashkenazi Jews, suggesting that it may be an important cause of moderate hearing loss in that population. We show that Mpzl2 is expressed in mouse inner ear, and the protein localizes in the auditory inner and outer hair cells, with an asymmetric subcellular localization. We thus present MPZL2 as a novel gene associated with sensorineural hearing loss.

Amac: Tip 2 Diyabetli hastalarin saglik inanci, hastalik tutumlari ve metabolik kontrolunu belirlemek ve bu degiskenler arasindaki iliskiyi incelemek amaciyla yapildi. Gerec ve Yontem: Tanimlayici turde olan arastirma Temmuz 2014-Ocak 2017 tarihleri arasinda yurutuldu. Arastirma orneklemini arastirmaya alinma kriterlerine uyan 271 Tip 2 diyabet hastasi olusturdu. Verilerin toplanmasinda Tanitici Bilgi Formu, Metabolik Kontrol Sonuclari, Saglik Inanc Modeli Olcegi ve Diyabet Tutum Olcegi kullanildi. Bulgular: Diyabetli hastalarin algilanan ciddiyet, algilanan yararlar, saglikla ilgili aktiviteler alt boyutlarinda ve toplam saglik inancinda pozitif saglik inancina (>4) sahip olduklari tespit edildi. Hastalarin en yuksek diyabet tutumu puan ortalamasini diyabetin ciddiyeti alt boyutundan (3.07 ± 0.70) ve en dusuk puan ortalamasini ise ozel egitim gereksinimi alt boyutundan (1.41±0.22) aldigi goruldu. Yilmaz, Elanur/0000-0001-7045-5068; Alper, Ozgul/0000-0003-1536-2111 WOS: 000424131300001 PubMed: 29434669 Background: Little is known about the genetic contribution to Mullerian aplasia, better known to patients as Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome. Mutations in two genes (WNT4 and HNF1B) account for a small number of patients, but heterozygous copy number variants (CNVs) have been described. However, the significance of these CNVs in the pathogenesis of MRKH is unknown, but suggests possible autosomal dominant inheritance. We are not aware of CNV studies in consanguineous patients, which could pinpoint genes important in autosomal recessive MRKH. We therefore utilized SNP/CGH microarrays to identify CNVs and define regions of homozygosity (ROH) in Anatolian Turkish MRKH patients. Result(s): Five different CNVs were detected in 4/19 patients (21%), one of which is a previously reported 16p11.2 deletion containing 32 genes, while four involved smaller regions each containing only one gene. Fourteen of 19 (74%) of patients had parents that were third degree relatives or closer. There were 42 regions of homozygosity shared by at least two MRKH patients which was spread throughout most chromosomes. Of interest, eight candidate genes suggested by human or animal studies (RBM8A, CMTM7, CCR4, TRIM71, CNOT10, TP63, EMX2, and CFTR) reside within these ROH. Conclusion(s): CNVs were found in about 20% of Turkish MRKH patients, and as in other studies, proof of causation is lacking. The 16p11.2 deletion seen in mixed populations is also identified in Turkish MRKH patients. Turkish MRKH patients have a higher likelihood of being consanguineous than the general Anatolian Turkish population. Although identified single gene mutations and heterozygous CNVs suggest autosomal dominant inheritance for MRKH in much of the western world, regions of homozygosity, which could contain shared mutant alleles, make it more likely that autosomal recessively inherited causes will be manifested in Turkish women with MRKH. Verilerin toplanmasında Hastane Anksiyete ve Depresyon ölçeği (HADÖ)ve Standardize Mini Mental değerlendirme testi (SMMT-E) kullanılmıştır.Bulgular: Çalışmayakatılan hastaların yaş ortalaması 67.73 (10.33) yıldır. HADÖ anksiyete puanı ortalaması10.44 (2.38), HADÖ depresyon puanı ortalaması 9.98 (2.23) ve SMMT-E puanı 14.68(2.66)’dır. HADÖ anksiyete skoru ile SMMT-E arasında negatif yönde ilişki saptanmıştır(r=-0.29, p= 0.01). Çoklu regresyon analizindesigara kullanma durumu ve HADÖ-anksiyetenin SMMT-E’yi ne ölçüde belirlediği değerlendirilmişve R ve R2 faktörleri sırasıyla 0.445 ve 0,19 olarak bulunmuştur Ayrıca SMMT-E’dekitoplam varyansın %19’unun bu değişkenlerce açıklandığı görülmüştür (y=19.876-0.320*X1-1.187*X2).Sonuç: KOAH hastalarında anksiyete düzeyinin SMMT-E’yi etkilediği ve bu nedenleKOAH hastalarında anksiyetenin azaltılmasına yönelik önlemlerin alınması önerilmiştir., Introduction: This descriptive study was to performedon the effect of anxiety-depression on the cognitive status in patients with chronicobstructive diseases (COPD).Material and Methods: The study was conducted with 80 COPD patientstreated at Lung diseases hospital inpatient departments. Subjects were surveyedusing Hospital Anxiety and depression scale (HADS) and Standardize Mini Mental StateExamination (SMMT-E).Results: The mean age patients was 67.73 (10.33)years. HADS anxiety was 10.44 (2.38), HADS depression was 9.98 (2.23), SMMT-E was14.68. According to the results of multipl regression analysis, variables such as smoking statusand HADS-anxiety predict the SMMT-E, the R and R2 factors were 0.445 and 0.19, respectively.Also it was observed that 19% of the total variance of the SMMT-E was explainedby the above variables (y=19.876-0.320*X1-1.187*X2).Conclusion:It was determined that anxiety effects to SMMT-E andtherefore it could be advised to taking measures to reduce anxiety COPD patients.

OZET Amac: Arastirmanin amaci diyabetli bireylerin hastalik algisi, psikososyal uyumlari ve bu degiskenlerin glisemik kontrole etkisini incelemektir. Yontem: Tanimlayici nitelikte yapilan bu arastirma, Erzurum il merkezinde bulunan bir Saglik Bakanligi hastanesi ve universite hastanesinde Haziran 2012 - Ocak 2 014 tarihleri arasinda yatarak tedavi alan 300 diyabet hastasi ile yurutulmustur. Verilerin degerlendirilmesinde, hasta tanitim formu, Hastalik Algisi Olcegi ve Psikososyal Uyum Ozbildirim Olcegi kullanilmistir. Bulgular: Hastalik Algisi Olcegi hastalik belirtileri boyutu puan ortalamasi 7.48±3.09, hastalik hakkindaki gorusler boyutu alt boyutlari puan ortalamalari; duygusal temsiller 21.09±4.91, sonuclar 18.95±2.40, kisisel kontrol 18.50±2.27, sure (akut/kronik) 17.68±1.74, tedavi kontrolu 17.26±1.84, sur e (dongusel) 14.59±1.41 ve hastaligi anlayabilme 14.45±3.14’dir. Hastalik nedenleri boyutunun alt boyutlari puan ortalamalari; risk etkenleri 16.91±3.68, psikolojik atiflar 15.87±3.90, bagisiklik 6.15±2.13, kaza veya sans 2.96±1.32’dir. Psikososyal Uyum toplam puani 48.20±23.91, seksuel iliski 8.31±5.92, mesleki cevre 7.96±4.78, sosyal cevre 6.73±5.38, saglik bakimina oryantasyon 9.13±4.10, psikolojik baski 6.88±4.28, genis aile iliskileri 2.79±2.36 ve aile cevresi 6.40±4.42’dir. Sonuc: Diyabet hastalarinin duygusal temsiller algisi ortalamasi en yuksek ve hastaligi anlayabilme algisi ortalamasi en dusuk bulunmustur. Hastalarin hastalik neden olarak en fazla risk etkenlerini gordukleri belirlenmistir. Hastalarin cogunlugunun hastaliga kotu psikososyal uyum gosterdigi belirlenmistir. Bu degiskenlerin glisemik kontrolu etkiledigi saptanmistir. Anahtar Kelimeler: Glisemik kontr ol; hastalik algisi; hemsirelik; psikososyal uyum; tip II DM ABSTRACT The Assess of Illness Perception, Psychosocial Adjustment and Glycemic Control in Type II Diabetic Mellitus Patients Objective: The aim of the research is to determine the assess of illness perception, psychosocial adjustment in diabetics, and to examine the glycemic control influence of these variables. Methods: This descriptive study was performed on 300 diabetics who had medical treatment between July 2012 and January 2014 The Ministry of Health in the province of Erzurum, a hospital and a university hospital center. The study data were collected using patient information sheets, Illness Perception Questionnaire and Psychosocial Adjusment of Illness Scale-Self Report. Results: Illne ss Perception Questionnaire the scores of illness symptoms were 7.48±3.09, the averages of opinions about the illness subscales; emotional representatives 21.09±4.91, results 18.95±2.40, personal control 18.50±2.27, timeline (acute/chronic) 17.68±1.74, treatment control 17.26±1.84, timeline (cyclical) 14.59±1.41 and illness percception 14.45±3.14. I llness reasons subscale scores; risk factors were 16.91±3.68, psychological attributions 15.87±3.90, immunity 6.15±2.13, accident or luck 2.96±1.32. psychologica l adaptation in total 48.20±23.91, PAIS - SR subscale scores; sexual relation were 8.31±5.92, professional circle 7.96±4.78, social circle 6.73±5.38, healthcare orientation 9.13±4.10, psychologic pressure 6.88±4.28, family relations 2.79±2.36 and family circle 6.40±4.42. An important correlation was recorded between illness perception and psychosocial adaptation scores, and glycemic control variables. Conclusion: It was determined that in accordance with descriptive qualities and illness qualities illness perception, and psychosocial adjustment levels can have differences, and illness perception influences the HbA1c level of psychosocial adjustment levels. Aim: This study was performed to determine the levels of depression and anxiety, and coping strategies, and the effects of the levels of depression and anxiety on strategies for coping with stress in cancer patients. Method: The study was designed as a definitive and correlation search ing investigation and has been performed at the Medical Oncology Clinic of Ataturk University Research Hospital between the dates July-August 2005. The study was carried out on 96 cancer patients. The question form prepared with the purpose of determining demographic and disease-related features (type of treatment, duration of disease and treatment) of the patients, and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HAD), Strategies for Coping with Stress Scale in collecting the data. Result: It was determined that the type of treatment of 84.4% of the patients was chemotherapy only and mean duration of disease was 15.02±14.05 months, mean duration of treatment was 14.05±14.16 months. Anxiety was determined in 61.5% and depression in 81.3% of the patients. It has been found that patient benefited most from social support seeking strategy. This has been followed by problem solving strategy and avoidance strategy. A positive, statistically significant relationship was found between the avoidance strategy, and anxiety and depression levels of the patients. Conclusion: Patients experience moderate anxiety and depression. It was concluded that patients recruited active coping strategies mostly. Patients are observed to avoid stressful events with the increasing levels of anxiety and depression.

Skeletal dysplasias (SDs) constitute a group of heterogeneous disorders affecting growth morphology of the chondro-osseous tissues. Prenatal diagnosis of SD is a considerable clinical challenge due to phenotypic variability. We performed a retrospective analysis of the fetal autopsies series conducted between January 2006 and December 2012 at our center. SD was detected in 54 (10%) out of 542 fetal autopsy cases which included; 11.1% thanatophoric dysplasia (n = 6), 7.4% achondroplasia (n = 4), 3.7% osteogenesis imperfect (n = 2), 1.9% Jarcho-Levin Syndrome (n = 1), 1.9% arthrogryposis (n = 1), 1.9% Dyggve-Melchior-Clausen syndrome (n = 1), 72.1% of dysostosis cases (n = 39). All SD cases were diagnosed by ultrasonography. In 20 of the cases, amniocentesis was performed, 4 cases underwent molecular genetic analyses. Antenatal identification of dysplasia is important in the management of pregnancy and in genetic counseling. Our data analysis showed that SD is usually detected clinically after the 20th gestational week. Genetic analyses for SD may provide early diagnosis and management.

The purpose of this descriptive study conducted between February-May 2011 was to assess the general health surveys of university students according to the stages of change. In study the 779 students attending at Atatürk University voluntarily participated. These students were included in the study by selection of volunteers sampling method which is one of the nonprobability samplingmethods.When examining 10 health behaviors according to the stages of change, results of the study concluded that majority of individuals was in the stages of “precontemplation”, in terms of the behaviors of using seat belts (40,4%), avoiding fat (39,2%), eating fiber (65,7%), losing weight (33,1%), exercising (29%), avoiding sun (31,7%), reducing stress (48,7%) and self-exam (36,2%) and they were in the stages of “maintenance”, in terms of the behaviors of using sunscreen against the sunrays (42,9%). Additionally, while 65% of individuals were non-smokers, 14,1% of the smokers were in the stages of “maintenance”. As a consequence, it was determined that even though the students have been using sunscreen for at least six months and have given up smoking, they have not considered giving up other negative health behaviors., Bu araştırma üniversite öğrencilerinin değişim aşamalarına göre genel sağlık ölçümlerinin değerlendirilmesi amacıyla Şubat-Mayıs 2011 tarihleri arasında tanımlayıcı olarak yapılmıştır. Atatürk Üniversitesi'nde öğrenim gören 779 gönüllü öğrenci çalışma kapsamına alınmıştır. Bu öğrenciler olasılıksız örnekleme yöntemlerinden gönüllülerin seçimiörnekleme yöntemi ile çalışmaya dahil edilmiştir. Değişim aşamalarına göre 10 sağlık davranışı incelendiği zaman; öğünlerinde yağdan sakınmada öğrencilerin %39,2'sinin, lifli gıda tüketiminde %65,7'sinin, ideal kiloya gelmek için çabalamada %33,1'inin, haftada üç kez en az 20 dakikalık egzersiz yapmada %29'unun, güneşten sakınmada %31,7'sinin, günlük yaşamdaki stresi azaltmada % 48,7'sinin, kanserin uyarıcı belirtileri yönünden kendi vücudunu incelemede %36,2'sinin, sürekli emniyet kemeri kullanmada bireylerin %40,4'ünün “düşünmeme”, 15 dakikadan daha fazla güneşte kalındığında güneş koruyucu kullanmada ise %42,9'unun “devam ettirme” aşamasında oldukları bulunmuştur. Ayrıca bireylerin %65'i hiç sigara içmemiş, içen bireylerin %14,1'i sigara bırakmışlığı “devam ettirme” aşamasındadır. Sonuç olarak, bu öğrencilerin enaz altı ay süreyle güneş koruyucusu kullanmalarına vesigarayı bırakmalarına rağmen,diğerolumsuz sağlıkdavranışlarındanvazgeçmeyi düşünmedikleri belirlenmiştir.

Objectives: The purpose of this study is to determine how cancer patients perceive their illness and factors affecting the perception illness. Methods: The study was a descriptive and cross-sectional study. Data were collected Erzurum Atatürk University Research Hospital Medical Oncology Clinic between February and September, 2010. The study population was consisted of 192 cancer patients, who was over 18 years of age, who understand and can speak Turkish, without any psychiatric illness diagnosis and awareness of th eillness. Data collection tools were Patient Quastionnaire and İlness Percepitions Questionnaire. Results: Since the beginning of the disease patients experienced fatigue symptoms and associated this symptom with their illness. When examined subscales related to their views on the disease patients; the score mean for perception of personal control and perception of consequences all sub-scales regarding the patients’ view on their illness, was higher in comparison to all other sub-scales of the scale. The score mean for perception of time (cyclical) and perception of illness coherence was the lowest. Risk factors attributions were determined as the most common reasons behind the patient illness.Conclusion; It is determined high internal control on duration of illness and course illness, treatment. It is determined low understanding of illness, ÖZET Amaç: Bu araştırma kanser hastalarının hastalıklarını nasıl algıladıklarını ve bu algıyı etkileyen faktörleri belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı olarak yapılan bu araştırma Atatürk Üniversitesi Sağlık Araştırma ve Uygulama Hastanesi Medikal Onkoloji Kliniği’nde yürütülmüştür. Araştırma verileri Ocak–Eylül 2010 tarihleri arasında toplanmıştır. Araştırmaya belirtilen tarihler arasında klinikte yatarak tedavi gören 18 yaş ve üzerinde, Türkçe okuyabilen ve anlayabilen, araştırmaya gönüllü olarak katılan, araştırmaya katılmayı engelleyebilecek fiziksel ve zihinsel bir engeli bulunmayan 192 hasta dahil edilmiştir. Araştırmanın verileri soru formu ve Hastalık Algısı Ölçeği ile toplanmıştır. Bulgular: Hastaların hastalığın başlangıcından beri en fazla yorgunluk yaşadığı ve en çok bu belirtiyi hastalıkları ile ilişkilendirdikleri tespit edilmiştir. Hastaların hastalık hakkındaki görüşleri ile ilgili alt boyutlar incelendiğinde; kişisel kontrol algısı ve sonuçlar algısı puan ortalamalarının diğer alt boyutlara göre yüksek olduğu ve süre (döngüsel) algısı ve hastalığı anlayabilme puan ortalamalarının ise en düşük olduğu bulunmuştur. Hastaların en fazla hastalık nedeni olarak risk faktörlerini algıladıkları belirlenmiştir. Sonuç; hastaların hastalığın süresi, seyri ve tedavisi üzerindeki iç kontrol algılarının yüksek ve hastalığı anlama ve kavramalarının düşük olduğu belirlemiştir.

Bu çalışmanın amacı, orta okul düzeyinde öğretim programlarında yer alan afet eğitiminive program dışı etkinlikler yoluyla afet eğitimini incelemek ve bu süreçlerin konuyla ilgili farkındalıklarının ve afetlerle baş edebilme kapasitelerinin arttırılmasına, ve acil bir durum anında gerektiği gibi davranabilme bilgi ve becerilerinin geliştirilmesine, öğretmenlerin afet eğitimine karşı yaklaşımlarına etkilerini ortaya koymaktadır.Çalışmanın katılımcıları, Kocaeli ilinde bulunanOkul A'dan 251 öğrenci ve 6 öğretmen, ayrıca, Okul B'den 95 öğrencidir. Araştırma için veriler, araştırmacı tarafından geliştirilen açık uçlu sorulardan oluşan bir öğrenci anketive Okul A'da görev yapan 6 öğretmen ve 3 öğrenci ile yarı yapılandırılmış görüşme tekniği aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Elde edilen nitel veriler, içerik analizi yöntemi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir, nicel veriler ise betimsel analizlere tabi tutulmuştur. Çalışmanın bulgularına göre, programda yer alan afet eğitiminin yanı sıra program dışı etkinliklerle zenginleştirilmiş afet eğitimine katılan öğrencilerde afet konularıyla ilgili farkındalıkları ve bulundukları bölge itibariyle deprem risk algıları daha yüksek çıkmıştır. Ayrıca, afet anında uygulanması gereken güvenlik davranışlarını bu öğrenciler daha iyi ve depreme karşı evde alınması gereken önlemler konusunda da daha bilinçli oldukları ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu öğrencilerin evinde depreme karşı alınması gereken pek çok temel önlem mevcuttur. Bu önlemler öğrencilerin okulda edindikleri bilgileri aileleriyle paylaştıklarına ilişkin bir gösterge olabilir. Çalışmanın sonuçları, öğrencilere daha çok katılımcı bir ortam sağlayan ve program dışı aktivitelerle zenginleştirilmiş bir afet eğitiminin konularla ilgili farkındalık, afetlere karşı kişisel hazırlık, evde alınması gereken önlemler ve konuyla ilgili öğrenci ve aile arasındaki etkileşimi üzerine etkileri konusunda önemli öneriler ortaya koymaktadır.Anahtar Kelimeler: Afet Eğitimi, Okul Tabanlı Afet Eğitimi, Program DışıEtkinlikler, ve Afete Hazırlık. The purpose of this research study is to examine formal disaster education implemented in elementary schools, and to investigate how disaster education taking place in the schools through extra-curricular activities raise awareness of and build the capacity of students; and teachers to prevent and respond appropriately to disasters. Participants of the study were 251 students at 5th grade level through 8th grade level in SchoolA implementing both curricular and extra-curricular approaches in disaster education and 95 students at 6th grade level through 8th grade level in SchoolB implementing only curricular approaches, and 6 teachers working in SchoolA in Kocaeli. An open-ended questionnaire developed by the researcher, and semi-structured interviews with three students from and six teachers in School Awere used for data collection. The qualitative data were analyzed through content analysis, and quantitative data were subjected to descriptive statistical analysis. The results revealed that students who went through both curricular and extra-curricular activities had higher awareness about disaster-related issues, vital safety-related actions were well known by those students, and major household preparedness and mitigation measures against, particularly earthquakes, were more adopted compared to the students who participated in only curricular disaster education. The conclusionshave implications for disaster education through extra-curricular activities on immediate outcomes such as awareness, personal preparedness, home-based preparedness, and encouragement of child-parent communication.Keywords:Disaster Education, School-Based Disaster Education, Extra-CurricularActivities, and Disaster Preparedness. 210
