2. Ultrafast spin–orbit torque-induced magnetization switching in a 75°-canted magnetic tunnel junction.

Abstract

We investigate the switching dynamics of a 75°-canted Spin–orbit torque (SOT) device with an in-plane easy axis using the micro-magnetic simulation. The switching time (τ) is evaluated from the time evolution of the magnetization. The device with a strong out-of-plane magnetic anisotropy (μ0Hkeff = −0.08 T) shows τ = 0.19 ns while a device with a strong in-plane magnetic anisotropy (μ0Hkeff = −0.9 T) shows τ = 0.32 ns. The increase of the damping constant (α) results in the increase of τ for both devices and the sub-nanosecond switching could be retained as α < 0.14 in the device with μ0Hkeff = −0.08 T, while this was achieved as α < 0.04 in the device with μ0Hkeff = −0.9 T. Furthermore when the field-like coefficient (β) is increased, it leads to a decrease in τ, which can be reduced to 0.03 ns by increasing β to 1 in the device with μ0Hkeff = −0.08 T. In order to achieve the same result in the device with μ0Hkeff = −0.9 T, β must be increased to 6. These results indicate a way to achieve ultrafast field-free SOT switching of a few tens of picoseconds in nanometer-sized magnetic tunnel junction (MTJ) devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

3. Primordial Lepton Family Asymmtries in Seesaw Model

Abstract

In leptogenesis scenario, the decays of heavy Majorana neutrinos generate lepton family asymmetries, $Y_e, Y_{\mu}$ and $Y_{\tau}$. They are sensitive to CP violating phases in seesaw models. The time evolution of the lepton family asymmetries are derived by solving Boltzmann equations. By taking a minimal seesaw model, we show how each family asymmetry varies with a CP violating phase. For instance, we find the case that the lepton asymmetry is dominated by $Y_{\mu}$ or $Y_{\tau}$ depending on the choice of the CP violating phase. We also find the case that the signs of lepton family asymmetries $Y_{\mu}$ and $Y_{\tau}$ are opposite each other. Their absolute values can be larger than the total lepton asymmetry and the baryon asymmetry may result from the cancellation of the lepton family asymmetries., Comment: 26 pages, 8 figures, ptp.style

Abstract

We study the correlation between CP violation in neutrino oscillations and leptogenesis in the framework with two heavy Majorana neutrinos and three light neutrinos. Among three unremovable CP phases, a heavy Majorana phase contributes to leptogenesis. We show how the heavy Majorana phase contributes to Jarlskog determinant $J$ as well as neutrinoless double $\beta$ decay by identifying a low energy CP violating phase which signals the CP violating phase for leptogenesis. For some specific cases of the Dirac mass term of neutrinos, a direct relation between lepton number asymmetry and $J$ is obtained. For the most general case of the framework, we study the effect on $ J $ coming from the phases which are not related to leptogenesis, and also show how the correlation can be lost in the presence of those phases., Comment: 4 pages and 3 figures

Abstract

This paper describes an experimental study of pattern recognition of partial discharge (PD) in a crosslinked polyethylene (XLPE) cable by using a neural network (NN) system. The NN system was a three-layer artificial neural system with feedforward connections, and its learning method was a backpropagation algorithm incorporating an external teacher signal. Input information for the NN was a combination of the discharge magnitude, the number of pulse counts and the phase angle of applied voltage in which PD is produced. PD measurement was carried out using a PD pulse recorder for a 66 kV XLPE cable with an artificial defect under a 38 kV ac applied voltage. After learning 30 typical input patterns, the NN discriminated unknown patterns with 90% correct responses. The time duration including measuring time required for the NN to discriminate PD signal was 30 s. In a long-term performance test of a 66 kV XLPE cable with an artificial defect, the NN-based alarm processor was able to recognize the presence of PD 1 h before breakdown of the cable, and successfully alerted the operator.

Abstract

A novel complementation system with short peptide-inserted-Renilla luciferase (PI-Rluc) and split-RNA probes was constructed for noninvasive RNA detection. The RNA binding peptides HIV-1 Rev and BIV Tat were used as inserted peptides. They display induced fit conformational changes upon binding to specific RNAs and trigger complementation or discomplementation of Rluc. Split-RNA probes were designed to reform the peptide binding site upon hybridization with arbitrarily selected target RNA. This set of recombinant protein and split-RNA probes enabled a high degree of sensitivity in RNA detection. In this study, we show that the Rluc system is comparable to Fluc, but that its detection limit for arbitrarily selected RNA (at least 100 pM) exceeds that of Fluc by approximately two orders of magnitude.

Abstract

We have constructed a reporter system for intracellular direct detection of RNA transcription that consists of two biomolecular components. The first part is a GFP-based recombinant protein probe (YRG0C-11ad) containing the RNA-binding Rev-peptide between ECFP and EYFP. The second component is RRE-RNA, which specifically binds to the Rev-peptide. Cells stably expressing YRG0C-11ad were identified by an increased FRET signal after direct transfection or intracellular transcription of RRE-RNA. In addition, the signal increase is more noticeable if tandemly repeated RRE-RNA is used as the reporter. Untranslatable non-coding RNAs are regarded as regulators of cellular gene expression, but they are difficult to study using indirect reporter systems that are dependent on translational products. Direct detection of reporter RNA would be a useful method for the detection of intracellular promoter activity during transcription of untranslatable RNAs.
