La présente thèse porte sur la production des subjectivités queers dans les romans de l’autrice québécoise Marie-Claire Blais (1939-2021). À travers l’analyse de trois œuvres phares en matière de représentation des personnages homosexuels, lesbiens et queers (Le Loup [1972], L’Ange de la solitude [1989] et les sept derniers opus du cycle Soifs [2005-2018]), je me penche sur les rapports alternatifs que les personnages développent avec les dispositifs hétéropatriarcocapitalistes de production des subjectivités que sont le temps, l’espace, la sexualité et l’amour. La première partie consiste en un survol des principaux concepts mobilisés dans cette thèse. Par l’intermédiaire des notions de dispositifs, d’affects, d’intersubjectivité et de care, je cherche alors à rendre intelligible la façon dont des subjectivités qui ne cadrent pas avec le système hétéropatriarcocapitaliste conjuguent avec les normes spatiotemporelles, sexuelles et amoureuses de l’idéologie dominante. Ce faisant, je mets en lumière la productivité des dispositifs de subjectivation ainsi que l’influence mutuelle se manifestant entre ces mêmes dispositifs et les réactions des personnages qui cherchent à s’ajuster ou à résister aux normes qui les oppriment, mais sans lesquelles leur existence en tant que sujets, pourtant déjà bafouée, est paradoxalement impossible. Le deuxième chapitre met en relief le fonctionnement des subjectivités queers dans Le Loup, premier roman blaisien ne contenant que des personnages homosexuels. Il fait état du contexte particulièrement répressif avec lequel ces derniers sont aux prises. L’absence de communautés et la loi du secret façonnent durablement les subjectivités de ce roman, dont la diégèse précède la Révolution tranquille. La troisième partie s’intéresse à la subjectivité des personnages lesbiens se trouvant dans L’Ange de la solitude, second et dernier récit blaisien consacré à la représentation de l’existence lesbienne (Rich). The Femtosecond laser is a very promising tool for performing accurate dissection in various cornea layers. Clearly, the development of this application requires basic knowledge about laser-tissue interaction. One of the most significant parameter in laser applications is the ablation threshold, defined as the minimal laser energy per unit surface required for ablation. This paper investigates the ablation threshold as a function of the laser pulse duration for two corneal layers (endothelium and epithelium) as well as for hydrogel with different hydration degrees. The measured ablation thresholds prove to behave very differently as a function of the pulse duration for the various materials investigated, although the values obtained for the shortest laser pulses are quite similar. Our experimental results are fitted with a simple model for laser-matter interaction in order to determine some intrinsic physical parameters characterizing each target.

Le présent mémoire de maîtrise porte sur Mai au bal des prédateurs (2010) de Marie-Claire Blais et sur Mes mauvaises pensées (2005) de Nina Bouraoui. Il s’intéresse tout particulièrement à la façon dont s’articulent identité de genre et désir chez certains personnages qui ne cadrent pas avec le système hétéronormatif en raison de la dislocation entre leur sexe anatomique, leur genre et leur désir, de même qu’à la façon dont ils refont leur subjectivité grâce à certaines communautés. Ce mémoire se déploie en deux chapitres comprenant chacun trois parties. Dans le premier chapitre, la première partie fait ressortir l’heureuse non-concordance entre le sexe anatomique et l’identité de genre des personnages queer qui donnent des spectacles de drag queen au Saloon Porte du Baiser. Elle analyse, à l’aide des notions de performativité et de queerness, la manière dont certains d’entre eux incarnent l’indécidabilité par leurs performances sur scène, leurs relations avec les autres, leur habillement et leur attitude générale. Elle met aussi en évidence la lecture qu’ils font d’eux-mêmes et des autres sur le plan du genre et du désir. La deuxième partie du premier chapitre se penche sur le fonctionnement du désir et de l’identité de genre de l’auteure-narratrice de Mes mauvaises pensées. Elle s’intéresse d’abord et avant tout, au moyen du concept d’identification, à la façon dont l’auteure-narratrice représente ses relations avec ses parents, avec les hommes en général, avec Johan, un être à l’identité de genre ambivalente qui la fascine, avec sa dernière amoureuse et avec sa première amoureuse fantasmée. Le premier chapitre de ce travail de recherche se clôt par une synthèse comparative des deux textes à l’étude, à propos de la façon dont les personnages vivent leur identité de genre et leur désir en lien avec la notion d’intelligibilité. The southernmost Mariana forearc stretched to accommodate opening of the Mariana Trough backarc basin in late Neogene time, erupting basalts now exposed in the SE Mariana Forearc Rift (SEMFR) 3.7 – 2.7 Ma ago. Today, SEMFR is a broad zone of extension that formed on hydrated, forearc lithosphere and overlies the shallow subducting slab (slab depth ≤ 30 – 50 km). It comprises NW-SE trending subparallel deeps, 3 - 16 km wide, that can be traced ≥ ~ 30 km from the trench almost to the backarc spreading center, the Malaguana-Gadao Ridge (MGR). While forearcs are usually underlain by serpentinized harzburgites too cold to melt, SEMFR crust is mostly composed of Pliocene, low-K basaltic to basaltic andesite lavas that are compositionally similar to arc lavas and backarc basin (BAB) lavas, and thus defines a forearc region that recently witnessed abundant igneous activity in the form of seafloor spreading. SEMFR igneous rocks have low Na8, Ti8, and Fe8, consistent with extensive melting, at ~ 23 ± 6.6 km depth and 1239 ± 40oC, by adiabatic decompression of depleted asthenospheric mantle metasomatized by slab-derived fluids. Stretching of pre-existing forearc lithosphere allowed BAB-like mantle to flow along SEMFR and melt, forming new oceanic crust. Melts interacted with preexisting forearc lithosphere during ascent. SEMFR is no longer magmatically active and post-magmatic tectonic activity dominates the rift.

Several varieties of seafloor hydrothermal vents with widely varying fluid compositions and temperatures and vent communities occur in different tectonic settings. The discovery of the Lost City hydrothermal field in the Mid-Atlantic Ridge has stimulated interest in the role of serpentinization of peridotite in generating H2- and CH4-rich fluids and associated carbonate chimneys, as well as in the biological communities supported in highly reduced, alkaline environments. Abundant vesicomyid clam communities associated with a serpentinite-hosted hydrothermal vent system in the southern Mariana forearc were discovered during a DSV Shinkai 6500 dive in September 2010. We named this system the “Shinkai Seep Field (SSF).” The SSF appears to be a serpentinite-hosted ecosystem within a forearc (convergent margin) setting that is supported by fault-controlled fluid pathways connected to the decollement of the subducting slab. The discovery of the SSF supports the prediction that serpentinite-hosted vents may be widespread on the ocean floor. The discovery further indicates that these serpentinite-hosted low-temperature fluid vents can sustain high-biomass communities and has implications for the chemical budget of the oceans and the distribution of abyssal chemosynthetic life.

The initial interaction between material rising from the African Large Low Shear Velocity Province and the African lithosphere manifests as the Eocene continental large igneous province (LIP), centered on southern Ethiopia and northern Kenya. Here we present a geographically well-distributed geochemical dataset comprising the flood basalt lavas of the Eocene continental LIP to refine the regional volcano-stratigraphy into three distinct magmatic units: (1) the highly-alkaline small-volume Akobo Basalts (49.4–46.6 Ma), representing the initial phase of flood basalt volcanism derived from the melting of lithospheric-mantle metasomes, (2) the primitive and spatially restricted Amaro Basalts (45.2–39.58 Ma) representing the early main phase of flood basalt volcanism derived from the melting of the upwelling thermochemical anomaly, and (3) the spatially extensive Gamo-Makonnen magmatic unit (38-28 Ma) representing the mature main phase of flood basalt volcanism that has undergone significant processing within the lithosphere resulting in relatively homogeneous compositions. The focused intrusion of these main phase magmas over 10 m.y. preconditioned the African lithosphere for the localization of strain during subsequent episodes of lithospheric stretching. The focusing of strain into the region occupied by this continental LIP may have contributed to the initial extension in SW Ethiopia associated with the East African Rift.Supplementary material at https://doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.c.5557626
