The objective of this meta-analysis was to develop and evaluate models for predicting nitrogen (N) excretion in feces, urine, and manure in beef cattle in South America. The study incorporated a total of 1,116 individual observations of N excretion in feces and 939 individual observations of N excretion in feces and in urine (g/d), representing a diverse range of diets, animal genotypes, and management conditions in South America. The dataset also included data on dry matter intake (DMI; kg/d) and nitrogen intake (NI; g/d), concentrations of dietary components, as well as average daily gain (ADG; g/d) and average body weight (BW; kg). Models were derived using linear mixed-effects regression with a random intercept for the study. Fecal N excretion was positively associated with DMI, NI, nonfibrous carbohydrates, average BW, and ADG and negatively associated with EE and CP concentration in the diet. The univariate model predicting fecal N excretion based on DMI (model 1) performed slightly better than the univariate model, which used NI as a predictor variable (model 2) with a root mean square error (RMSE) of 38.0 vs. 39.2%, the RMSE-observations SD ratio (RSR) of 0.81 vs. 0.84, and concordance correlation coefficient (CCC) of 0.53 vs. 0.50, respectively. Models predicting urinary N excretion were less accurate than those derived to predict fecal N excretion, with an average RMSE of 43.7% vs. 37.0%, respectively. Urinary and manure N excretion were positively associated with DMI, NI, CP, average BW, and ADG and negatively associated with neutral detergent fiber concentration in the diet. As opposed to fecal N excretion, the univariate model predicting urinary N excretion using NI (model 10) performed slightly better than the univariate model using DMI (model 9) as predictor variable with an RMSE of 36.0% vs. 39.7%, RSR 0.85 vs. 0.93, and CCC of 0.43 vs. 0.29, respectively. The models developed in this study are applicable for predicting N excretion in beef cattle across a broad spectrum of dietary compositions and animal genotypes in South America. The univariate model using DMI as a predictor is recommended for fecal N prediction, while the univariate model using NI is recommended for predicting urinary and manure N excretion because the use of more complex models resulted in little to no benefits. However, it may be more useful to consider more complex models that incorporate nutrient intakes and diet composition for decision-making when N excretion is a factor to be considered. Three extant equations evaluated in this study have the potential to be used in tropical conditions typical of South America to predict fecal N excretion with good precision and accuracy. However, none of the extant equations are recommended for predicting urine or manure N excretion because of their high RMSE, and low precision and accuracy.

Abstract Objectives To identify the prevalence and associated factors of cognitive dysfunction, 1 year after ICU discharge, among adult patients, and it´s relation with quality of life. Methods Multicenter, prospective cohort study including ICUs of 10 tertiary hospitals in Brazil, between May 2014 and December 2018. The patients included were 452 adult ICU survivors (median age 60; 47.6% women) with an ICU stay greater than 72 h. Results At 12 months after ICU discharge, a Montreal Cognitive Assessment (tMOCA) telephone score of less than 12 was defined as cognitive dysfunction. At 12 months, of the 452 ICU survivors who completed the cognitive evaluation 216 (47.8%) had cognitive dysfunction. Abstract The biological and technological importance of anion-mediated processes has made the development of improved methods for the selective recognition of anions one of the most relevant research topics today. The hydration sphere of anions plays an important role in the functions performed by anions by forming a variety of cluster complexes. Here we describe a supramolecular capsule that recognizes hydrated anion clusters. These clusters are most likely composed of three ions that form hydrated C3 symmetry complexes that are entrapped within the supramolecular capsule of the same symmetry. The capsule is made of self-assembled α,γ-cyclic peptide containing amino acid with by five-membered rings and equipped with a tris(triazolylethyl)amine cap. To recognise the hydrated anion clusters, the hexapeptide capsule must disassemble to entrap them between its two subunits.

The study of cyclic peptides (CPs) and self-assembling cyclic peptide nanotubes (SCPNs) is pivotal in advancing applications in diverse fields such as biomedicine, nanoelectronics, and catalysis. Recognizing the limitations in the experimental study of these molecules, this article introduces CYCLOPEp Builder, a comprehensive web-based application designed to facilitate the design, simulation, and visualization of CPs and SCPNs. The tool is engineered to generate molecular topologies, essential for conducting Molecular Dynamics simulations that span All-Atom to Coarse-Grain resolutions. CYCLOPEp Builder's user-friendly interface simplifies the complex process of molecular modeling, providing researchers with the ability to readily construct CPs and SCPNs. The platform is versatile, equipped with various force fields, and capable of producing structures ranging from individual CPs to complex SCPNs with different sequences, offering parallel and antiparallel orientations among them. By enhancing the capacity for detailed visualization of molecular assemblies, CYCLOPEp Builder improves the understanding of CP and SCPN molecular interactions. This tool is a step forward in democratizing access to sophisticated simulations, offering an invaluable resource to the scientific community engaged in the exploration of supramolecular structures. El Estado Colombiano, a partir de la Constitución de 1991, se declaró como un Estado Social de Derecho en donde los valores de los Derechos Humanos se convierten en un pilar fundamental en la construcción de una sociedad incluyente y respetuosa de la diferencia étnica. En ese sentido, el artículo tiene como objetivo describir los desarrollos legislativos, particularmente, leyes y decretos en los cuales se materializan las acciones afirmativas en función de garantizar el derecho a la educación de las minorías étnicas desde sus realidades y particularidades culturales en Colombia, lo cual es fundamental para el cumplimiento de los demás derechos, como la identidad, la salud, entre otros. Para ello, se realiza una investigación cualitativa centrada en el análisis documental, tomando como referente las leyes y decretos publicados a partir de la Constitución Política de 1991. El análisis documental es una metodología de investigación que utiliza documentos como fuente de información. Los documentos pueden ser de diversos tipos, como libros, artículos, informes, etc. El análisis documental permite al investigador obtener información sobre un tema específico, comprender diferentes perspectivas sobre un problema y desarrollar nuevas ideas. Los resultados evidencian los avances jurídicos en dicha materia. Sin embargo, también se manifiestan las debilidades de las mismas que han conllevado a dificultades para que la población pueda acceder de forma eficaz al gozo y disfrute de la educación, desde su diversidad étnica.

Abstract The interest in titanium dioxide (TiO $$_2$$ 2 ) phases is growing due to the number of applications in cosmetics, food industry and photocatalysis, an increase that is driven by its exceptional properties when engineered at the nanoscale like in the form of nanoparticles. Our goal is to discover unknown low-density phases of TiO $$_2$$ 2 , with potential for applications in various fields. We then use well-known TiO $$_2$$ 2 clusters as fundamental building blocks to be self-assembled into unique structures to study their distinct characteristics. Density functional calculations are employed to relax the structures and identify the most stable TiO $$_2$$ 2 structures within an energy range of 0.1 eV per atom from the rutile and anatase phases, which are confirmed, validating our methodology. Going beyond conventional phases, we found two-dimensional TiO $$_2$$ 2 structures, previously explored in separate studies, and showing typical structures of transition metal dichalcogenide layers, that forge a bridge between different TiO $$_2$$ 2 structures. It is noteworthy that our investigation uncovered an entirely novel class of TiO $$_2$$ 2 structures featuring hexagonal cages like beehive channels, opening novel phases with huge potential. These discovered low-density phases are interesting, particularly the hexagonal cage structures with remarkable large gaps, because they introduce other dimensions for uncharted applications in the ever-growing TiO $$_2$$ 2 landscape.

Actualmente en los sistemas educativos uno de los mayores retos es integrar las nuevas tecnologías a los procesos de enseñanza-aprendizaje teniendo en cuenta que su utilización en diferentes aspectos de la vida cotidiana han modificado la forma como los jóvenes piensan, aprenden e interactúan con otros y les ha permitido desarrollar habilidades de pensamiento y nuevas formas de aprender. El desarrollo aborda todo lo relacionado con la enseñanza de la química orgánica mediada por las TIC Además, se aborda sobre las TIC en educación, el papel de la misma en la enseñanza de la química y sus diferentes aplicaciones. Llegando a la conclusión con las futuras líneas de investigación con respecto a la temática abordada en el artículo. La enseñanza y el aprendizaje de la Química Orgánica, al estar mediadas por las TIC, le imprimen calidad en el proceso optimizando la dinámica de la clase contribuyendo a su mejor comprensión. Esto, debido en parte, a que la Química es una disciplina cuyos modelos y fundamentos teóricos requieren de mucha imaginación para que el estudiante pueda comprender los conceptos abstractos, y es así, como la tecnología puede contribuir, por ejemplo, con las presentaciones de figuras tridimensionales. ABSTRACT Currently in educational systems one of the biggest challenges is to integrate new technologies to teaching-learning processes taking into account that their use in different aspects of everyday life have changed the way young people think, learn and interact with others and has allowed them to develop thinking skills and new ways of learning. The development addresses everything related to the teaching of organic chemistry mediated by ICT. In addition, it deals with ICT in education, the role of ICT in the teaching of chemistry and its different applications. Concluding with the future lines of research with respect to the subject addressed in the article. The teaching and learning of organic chemistry, when mediated by ICTs, give quality to the process, optimizing the dynamics of the class and contributing to its better understanding. This is partly due to the fact that Chemistry is a discipline whose models and theoretical foundations require a lot of imagination so that the student can understand the abstract concepts, and this is how technology can contribute, for example, with the presentation of three-dimensional figures. The global demand for sustainable and nutritious food sources has catalyzed interest in legumes, known for their rich repertoire of health-promoting compounds. This review delves into the diverse array of bioactive peptides, protein subunits, isoflavones, antinutritional factors, and saponins found in the primary legume protein sources—soybeans, peas, chickpeas, and mung beans. The current state of research on these compounds is critically evaluated, with an emphasis on the potential health benefits, ranging from antioxidant and anticancer properties to the management of chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. The extensively studied soybean is highlighted and the relatively unexplored potential of other legumes is also included, pointing to a significant, underutilized resource for developing health-enhancing foods. The review advocates for future interdisciplinary research to further unravel the mechanisms of action of these bioactive compounds and to explore their synergistic effects. The ultimate goal is to leverage the full spectrum of benefits offered by legumes, not only to advance human health but also to contribute to the sustainability of food systems. By providing a comprehensive overview of the nutraceutical potential of legumes, this manuscript sets a foundation for future investigations aimed at optimizing the use of legumes in the global pursuit of health and nutritional security.

We detected Mayaro virus (MAYV) in 3.4% (28/822) of febrile patients tested during 2018–2021 from Roraima State, Brazil. We also isolated MAYV strains and confirmed that these cases were caused by genotype D. Improved surveillance is needed to better determine the burden of MAYV in the Amazon Region.

In May 2023, oceanic and atmospheric anomalies indicated El Niño conditions in the eastern Pacific, followed by coral bleaching in coral communities and reefs of Huatulco. We conducted surveys and sampled coral reef communities from late June to mid–August of 2023 to evaluate the intensity and extent of the changes associated with the warming event. From January of 2023, Huatulco experienced positive sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies; however, beginning in June, the high-temperature anomalies became extreme (>31 °C; ~2 °C above historical records). These high temperatures resulted in extensive coral bleaching in middle–late June and mortality from middle–late July (>50–93%). In addition, the area experienced significant reductions in echinoderm abundance and fish biomass. In 2023, severe bleaching affected coral systems in the Central Mexican Pacific, Gulf of Mexico, and Mexican Caribbean, making this the most devastating marine heatwave event, simultaneously impacting coral reefs across Mexico’s Pacific and Atlantic coasts.

Abstract Background Human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived peripheral sensory neurons present a valuable tool to model human diseases and are a source for applications in drug discovery and regenerative medicine. Clinically, peripheral sensory neuropathies can result in maladies ranging from a complete loss of pain to severe painful neuropathic disorders. Sensory neurons are located in the dorsal root ganglion and are comprised of functionally diverse neuronal types. Low efficiency, reproducibility concerns, variations arising due to genetic factors and time needed to generate functionally mature neuronal populations from iPSCs remain key challenges to study human nociception in vitro. Here, we report a detailed functional characterization of iPSC-derived sensory neurons with an accelerated differentiation protocol (“Anatomic” protocol) compared to the most commonly used small molecule approach (“Chambers” protocol). Anatomic’s commercially available RealDRG™ were further characterized for both functional and expression phenotyping of key nociceptor markers. Methods Multiple iPSC clones derived from different reprogramming methods, genetics, age, and somatic cell sources were used to generate sensory neurons. Manual patch clamp was used to functionally characterize both control and patient-derived neurons. High throughput techniques were further used to demonstrate that RealDRGs™ derived from the Anatomic protocol are amenable to high throughput technologies for disease modelling. Results The Anatomic protocol rendered a purer culture without the use of mitomycin C to suppress non-neuronal outgrowth, while Chambers differentiations yielded a mix of cell types. Chambers protocol results in predominantly tonic firing when compared to Anatomic protocol. Patient-derived nociceptors displayed higher frequency firing compared to control subject with both, Chambers and Anatomic differentiation approaches, underlining their potential use for clinical phenotyping as a disease-in-a-dish model. RealDRG™ sensory neurons show heterogeneity of nociceptive markers indicating that the cells may be useful as a humanized model system for translational studies. Conclusions We validated the efficiency of two differentiation protocols and their potential application for functional assessment and thus understanding the disease mechanisms from patients suffering from pain disorders. We propose that both differentiation methods can be further exploited for understanding mechanisms and development of novel treatments in pain disorders.

Introduction Access to COVID-19-related care during the pandemic deserve attention and study to inform future strategies to deal with similar health emergencies in the future. We aimed to describe access to care for COVID-19-related reasons during the first 9 weeks of the pandemic in Portugal, to quantify the frequency of remote and in-person contacts with healthcare for COVID-19-related reasons and to assess the association between individual and context characteristics and contacts with health services.Methods We conducted an internet-based open cohort study with a non-probabilistic sample of 12 006 persons aged 16 years or more. One questionnaire was sent daily from 23 March 2020 for 9 weeks.Results General practitioners (GPs) were the main points of contact of patients with health services for COVID-19-related reasons. In our population, the main drivers found for any difference in the probability of contact with health services for COVID-19-related reasons were perceived high-risk contacts, followed by the existence of COVID-19 main symptoms. There were 17% more (0.17, 95% CI 0.15 to 0.18) contacts with health services among participants who reported personal contact with a confirmed case, 7% more (0.07, 95%CI 0.06 to 0.07) contacts if the contact had been with a suspected case and 6% more (0.06, 95%CI 0.05 to 0.07) contacts among participants who reported COVID-19 main symptoms in the previous 24 hours. Sociodemographic and household factors were not associated with major differences in healthcare contacts. The probability of contact with any health service for COVID-19-related reasons was highest at the beginning of the pandemic.Conclusion Most contacts with health services for COVID-19-related reasons during the first wave of the pandemic were with GPs, highlighting the role of first-contact care with these clinicians in Portuguese Primary Care, particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Sociodemographic and household factors were not associated with major risk differences, suggesting that universal coverage and equity worked in our study sample at this pandemic stage.

Abstract High-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is associated with cervical cancer while low-risk HPV strains mostly cause benign lesions. Multiple studies have also associated HPV with coronary artery (CAD) disease in women. Furthermore, the climacteric period in women, triggers chronic inflammation and has major implications for CAD and associated lipid disorders. The association of HPV with coronary artery disease in climacteric women has few studies, and the objective of this review is to gather and analyse scientific data on the subject. This is an integrative review performed on PubMed and Google Scholar using the keywords “HPV”, “coronary heart disease” and “climacteric”, among these keywords the boolean operator AND and the publication date filter. (2018 onwards). Five articles were found, whose main results show presence of high-risk vaginal HPV in climacteric women. Climacterium and HPV were associated with a three-fold increased risk of CAD, as well as with factors related to menopause that promote atheroma formation, lipid disorders and chronic inflammation. Thus, these results support the association between HPV infection and CAD in climacteric women, possibly via chronic inflammation, hormonal factors related to menopause and dyslipidemia.

Objectives: To know the frequency and characteristics of neurological manifestations of probable immune origin occurring after exposure to COVID-19 vaccination. In addition, to pre-study the usefulness of the Spanish pharmacovigilance system and lymphocyte transformation test in establishing causality.Methods: Retrospective case study, including patients admitted to the Neurology department from January 2021 to May 2022 with a probable neuroimmune disorder. Demographic, clinical and COVID-19 vaccination antecedent data were collected from medical records.Results: From a total of 108 patients, 30 were excluded due to a different etiological diagnosis after follow-up. Thirty-six patients (46.2%) had received the COVID-19 vaccine in the previous 3 months (21.8% during the previous month). BioNTech-Pfizer vaccine was the most frequent in this group (63.9%). 69/108 were female and mean age 51.2 years (SD 22.59), with no significant difference with not recently-vaccinated (U-Mann Whitney, p = 0.256). The neurological syndromes found were (vaccinated/total): polyradiculoneuropathy (8/16), encephalitis (5/11), multiple sclerosis relapse (5/16), optic neuritis (1/4), myelitis (3/6), cranial neuropathy (6/10), aseptic meningitis (1/3) and others (7/11). Acute immunosuppressive treatment was administered in 61.1% of cases and 47.2% presented complete clinical improvement, without significant differences with non-vaccinated patients (chi-square, p = 0.570). Eleven vaccinated patients were studied in the pharmacovigilance office for possible adverse drug reaction. Causality according to the Spanish pharmacovigilance system (SPVS) algorithm was “Related” to COVID-19 vaccine (score ≥ 4) in 11 cases with positive in vitro study (lymphocyte transformation test) to polyethylene glycol-2000 and polysorbate-80 in 4 cases.Conclusion: Neuroimmune disorders appearing after administration of COVID-19 vaccine do not seem to present important differentiating clinical and/or evolutive features. Delayed hypersensitivity to vaccine excipients could be one of the pathophysiological mechanisms, and lymphocyte transformation test is a useful tool to identify it.

Ophioderma teres (Lyman, 1860), an ophiuroid previously believed to have a wide distribution in the eastern Pacific, has been found to have an unclear taxonomic identity. While considered a well-known species, recent studies have revealed that O. teres lacks a holotype and has vague boundaries with its congeners Ophioderma teres unicolor H.L. Clark, 1940 and Ophioderma sodipallaresi Caso, 1986, as well as with two additional new morphotypes detected in Mexico and Nicaragua, causing continuous misidentifications. This study utilized an integrative taxonomy approach based on morphologic, morphometric, and molecular evidence to clarify the taxonomic status of O. teres, O. sodipallaresi, O. teres unicolor, and the two new morphotypes. Data integration led to the following results: 1) the neotype designation and redescription of O. teres; 2) the proposal of O. sodipallaresi as a junior synonym of O. teres; 3) the status change of O. unicolor stat. nov. from subspecies to species, and 4) the description of the morphotypes as the new species Ophioderma aija sp. nov. and Ophioderma bichi sp. nov. An identification key to the eastern Pacific species of Ophioderma was also developed. This work contributes to the knowledge of Ophioderma in the region, increasing the number of described species and providing resources for their accurate identification.

Abstract: Malaria is a public health problem and the cases diagnosed in the capital of Roraima, Brazil, show potential to characterize the burden of the disease in the state. This study aimed to describe the epidemiological, clinical, and laboratory aspects of malaria cases diagnosed in Boa Vista. For this purpose, a descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted in two health units in the city, with individuals diagnosed and who agreed to respond the questionnaire. Of the total of 206 participants, characterized as men, mixed-race, and young, 96% (198) reported participating in illegal mining activity. Among the group of miners, 66% (131) came from other states of Brazil or other countries. The mines were mainly located in the Yanomami territory in Roraima. Plasmodium vivax infection occurred in 74% (153) of participants. In the miner’s group, hospitalizations for severe malaria, previous malaria attacks, and delays in treatment after the onset of symptoms were reported. Although 73% (145) of miners reported knowing how malaria was transmitted, only 54% (107) used mosquito nets or repellents. The use of Artecom and chloroquine by miners is not for the complete treatment but only to relieve symptoms for returning to gold mines, highlighting the importance of molecular surveillance to antimalarial resistance. Indigenous peoples are considered vulnerable to malaria and miners promotes the increase of malaria in Roraima Indigenous Lands. Therefore, access to diagnosis and treatment in Indigenous areas invaded by miners is imperative to confront this disease that ravages Indigenous communities and threatens public health on a large scale to achieve the goal of eliminating malaria in the state.

Introduction: Acute myocardial infarction is a rare life-threatening event in children. Although more frequent in those with congenital heart disease and/or abnormal coronary anatomy, it can occur in otherwise healthy children. Case report: We present the case of a previously healthy seven-year-old boy evaluated because of chest pain. An ECG revealed major repolarization abnormalities in the inferior and left precordial leads and an echocardiogram showed mild global left ventriclar dysfunction and a dyskinetic apical interventricular septum. Laboratory testing showed an isolated, but significant, elevation of cardiac markers. He underwent cardiac catheterization that confirmed an occlusion of the distal segment of the left descending artery. Cardiovascular magnetic resonance findings indicated a recent transmural infarction of the apical septal segment. Discussion: Despite being an uncommon entity in the pediatric population, myocardial ischemia and infarction can be the reason behind plain chest pain. The diagnosis warrants a high index of suspicion and should prompt meticulous cardiac testing.

Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) and diabetes are the most prevalent NCDs, causing 1.9 and 1.5 million deaths yearly. Individuals diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) are at high risk of developing CVDs. Machine learning (ML) models have provided outstanding results in different domains, including healthcare, allowing to obtain models with high predictive performance. The aim of this study was to develop an interpretable data-driven approach to predict the 10-year CVD risk for T1D older individuals, aiming to provide both reasonable predictive performance and the identification of risk factors associated with CVDs. Data from T1D individuals at the Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen were used. Different ML-based models were considered, including KNN, decision tree, random forest, and multilayer perceptron (MLP). To enhance the predictive performance of ML models, the conditional tabular generative adversarial network (CTGAN) was used to create synthetic data and increase the size of the training data. Several filter and wrapper feature selection (FS) techniques were considered for identifying the most relevant features involved in CVD risk and enhancing the performance of the ML-based models used. To gain interpretability on predictive models, we used the post-hoc methods: SHAP and accumulated local effects. The experimental results showed a great performance of FS and ML-based models for predicting CVD risk. In particular, the MLP obtained the best results, with a mean absolute error of 0.0088 and mean relative absolute error of 0.0817. Regarding risk factors, age, Hba1c, and albuminuria were identified as crucial in CVD risk prediction, which is in line with recent clinical evidence. Our study contributes to identifying CVD risk and associated risk factors in a data-driven manner, helping to make early interventions and adequate treatments to prevent CVDs.

Introduction: Pseudoaneurysms of the subclavian artery are a rare complication. Surgical treatment is necessary to prevent potentially lethal complications. This needs adequate planning in cases that require vertebral artery revascularisation. Report: A 56 year old man with multiple systemic comorbidities underwent endovascular treatment using a balloon expandable bare metal stent for symptomatic subclavian Steal syndrome. During follow up, computed tomography angiography (CTA) revealed a pseudoaneurysm in the proximal segment of the left subclavian artery. The patient had criteria warranting left vertebral artery revascularisation. The patient underwent scheduled hybrid surgical treatment involving transposition of the vertebral artery to the common carotid artery, endarterectomy of the internal carotid artery, and endovascular therapy for pseudoaneurysm exclusion; all were performed on the left side. The post-operative period was without incident. After 12 months the patient remains asymptomatic, with adequate exclusion of the pseudoaneurysm, and patency of the procedures. Discussion: Hybrid surgery could offer a secure, feasible, and less invasive option for treating subclavian artery pseudoaneurysms that require vertebral artery revascularisation.

This study aimed to describe the disease course, treatment strategies, and healthcare utilization among patients with GPP in Portugal.Methods This multicentric, observational, retrospective study included consecutive adult patients with GPP undergoing a dermatology evaluation in different reporting institutions by experienced dermatologists between 2002 and 2023.Results A total of 59 patients were assessed. Most of the cohort had a previous history of plaque psoriasis (71%) and 83% presented at least one comorbidity. At the initial encounter, 64% of the cohort needed hospitalization. Systemic involvement was common, including fever (37%), and elevated white blood cell count and erythrocyte sedimentation rate/C-reactive protein (49%). Nearly, 73% of patients initiated systemic drugs, and 70% had to discontinue the first treatment. During the study, 98% of patients experienced at least one flare. At the last visit, 3.4% of patients had died, and 71.2% exhibited signs of active disease despite undergoing treatment.Conclusions Our study demonstrates that GPP is a chronic, debilitating condition associated with systemic involvement, frequent flares, and hospitalizations, despite receiving multiple systemic treatments. Improved disease awareness and new treatments are needed to improve patient care and decrease the burden of the disease.

In greenhouse cultivation of stock (Matthiola incana), the main causative agent of its death is the fungus Fusarium sp., especially in the early phenological stages, resulting in significant losses during the first four weeks of cultivation. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate phytosanitary control techniques (chemical, biological, and antibiotics) to reduce Fusarium sp. infection in stock (Matthiola incana) cultivation. The experiment was conducted in a randomized block design with five treatments (control; chemical products; biological products, antibiotics, and product combinations) and three replications. The chemical active ingredients used were aluminum phosphite, iprodione, captan, and Hymexazol. Biological solutions included Trichoderma sp. and Bacillus subtilis, while antibiotics used were Weed Pirocontrole, Kasugamicin, Polioxin B, Azoxystrobin, and Kresoxym methyl. Additionally, product combinations were evaluated, such as Fosetyl aluminum, Bacillus subtilis, Polioxin B, Hymexazol, and Azoxystrobin. Control efficacy was measured based on the severity of fungal growth in culture, while mortality represented the loss rate at the end of the experiment. The combined treatment of techniques was superior, with a mortality rate of 13.77%, compared to the 63.00% recorded in the absolute control group. These results underscore the importance of an integrated approach to Fusarium sp. control in stock cultivation, emphasizing the effectiveness of combining different phytosanitary techniques to minimize losses and promote successful production.

Coffea arabica es una de las especies más importantes a nivel económico, al producir una de las bebidas más consumidas en el mundo. Este estudio evaluó molecularmente algunas de las variedades de café cultivadas en el departamento del Valle del Cauca con el fin de que los resultados contribuyan a direccionar los planes de mejoramiento y fomentar la producción de café regional. Se muestrearon en 140 individuos correspondientes a cinco variedades de café y se usaron ocho marcadores microsatélite para hacer la caracterización molecular a partir de los estimadores de diversidad genética, un dendrograma basados en las distancias de Nei y un AMOVA. Se encontró una heterocigosidad promedio observada muy baja (0.004), sin embargo, la heterocigosidad promedio esperada junto con el número de haplotipos mostraron que a pesar de haber sido sometidas a programas de mejoramiento aún existe una gran diversidad genética en todas las variedades. Esto junto con el resultado del AMOVA, revelan que esta diversidad se encuentra alojada en diferentes tipos de homocigotos que provocan una gran variación al comparar los individuos dentro de cada variedad. Finalmente, las distancias de Nei muestran una diferenciación de la variedades siendo más parecidas aquellas con una mayor intensidad de selección artificial.

In this study, we focus on the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies into inclusive educational environments. The problem lies in ensuring that these technologies are accessible to all students, regardless of their abilities. Its importance is emphasized in the creation of an equitable educational environment. We reviewed previous efforts and found motivation in the pressing need to evaluate these technological solutions. Our proposal involved evaluating AI tools in educational institutions. We present a comprehensive case where we apply structured surveys and interviews for students and educators. The results revealed significant improvements in user satisfaction and academic performance. The main conclusion is that the careful implementation of AI technologies, adapted to inclusive needs, can positively transform the educational process, promoting equity and accessibility for all students.

Summary: In this protocol, we describe how to perform the photo-isomerization of cyclic peptides containing an unsaturated β-amino acid. This process triggers the formation or disassembly of cyclic peptide nanotubes under appropriate light irradiation. Specifically, we start by describing the solid-phase synthesis of the cyclic peptide component. Abstract The Eastern Cuban block has experienced a complex tectonic history characterized by plate interactions, resulting in a diverse array of geological features observable in the offshore sedimentary record. We investigate the tectonic evolution of offshore Eastern Cuba, specifically in the Old Bahamas Channel and its surrounding areas, by integrating multi‐channel seismic (MCS) reflection and published geological data. Our analysis employs stratigraphic frameworks and MCS data to assess deformation and key geological events in the region. We highlight the complex tectonic history of the Eastern Cuban block, marked by significant geodynamic events, such as rifting, the subduction of the oceanic Proto‐Caribbean plate, and syn‐orogenic and post‐orogenic phases. The seismic units observed in the majority of the study area reveal the early evolution of the Northern Proto‐Caribbean margin, subsequently impacted by the Cuban orogeny and the reactivation of the Cuban Transform Fault zone corresponding to a former plate boundary. We propose estimated ages for the seismic sequences, correlating them with available well data from neighboring regions. This study offers valuable insights into the tectonic history and geological evolution of offshore Eastern Cuba, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of the region's geodynamic development.
