Physical inactivity is a worldwide public challenge and a leading risk factor for overweight and obesity. Despite the well-recognized benefits of physical activity (PA), only 29% of European youth meet recommended guidelines of at least 60 minutes of daily moderate-to-vigorous PA. The school setting provides an ideal environment to promote healthy lifestyles among young people as initiatives can target all students and the whole school community. The main goal of the EUMOVE project is to design and implement a comprehensive set of strategies and resources to enable the educational community to promote healthy lifestyles in order to reduce risk factors for non-communicable diseases. EUMOVE project (https://eumoveproject.eu/) is a 3-year project delivered by a collaboration between academic and non-governmental institutions from Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, and the United Kingdom. The direct beneficiaries of the project will include school leaders, teachers, and parents, and indirect beneficiaries will be primary and secondary students. EUMOVE project will develop a set of strategies and resources such as Physically Active Lessons Toolkit, Real Time Active Breaks Platform, Active School Commuting Toolkit, Learning Units about healthy lifestyles promotion, School Leaders toolkit, Parents Toolkit about promoting healthy lifestyles, and Mobile phone APP. Project dissemination will be implemented across each partner region and includes: Online dissemination through a learning platform, scientific events aimed at teachers and researchers, workshops with teachers including training on how to use the teaching resources, and Workshops with parents providing recommendations for promoting healthy lifestyle in their children. Thus, the EUMOVE project offers evidence-based and innovative resources to be applied by the educational community in the real-world setting to promote PA levels, appropriate diet and sleep habits, and reduce sedentary time amongst children and adolescents across a number of European countries.

Background: This systematic review determines the levels of physical activity (PA) during school hours in children and adolescents. Methods: Studies carried out from January 1987 to December 2019 were retrieved from four databases (Web of Science, Pubmed, Scopus and SportDiscus). Results: Twenty-nine studies were included in this systematic review. Most of them used accelerometers and showed that male and female children accumulated a mean of between 14 and 68 min of moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA) during school hours (3–22% of this daily segment), and male and female adolescents of accumulated a mean of between 13 and 28 min of MVPA during this daily segment (3–8% of the school hours). Less than a quarter of children and adolescents reached the recommended 30 min of MVPA during school hours, with notable differences between sexes. Conclusions: These results suggest that the levels of PA during school hours are not enough, and consequently, schools should develop strategies for helping children and adolescents reach the school PA recommendation. The aim of this study was to design and validate a scale that would allow the evaluation in Physical Education teachers the responsible use of physical fitness tests related to health. Method: The sample was composed of 374 secondary school teachers (266 men and 108 women), from educational centers belonging to the eight Andalusian provinces, aged between 24 and 67 years (41.92 ± 9.24). Results: Firstly, a 26-item instrument was designed, which obtained item-total correlation values of ≥ .35, except for 5 items. Then, the internal structure of the scale was evaluated and proved to be relevant. The statistical analysis of the items and the subsequent exploratory factor analysis resulted in five factors (orientation of the result, use of participatory styles, the educational approach, methodological rigor, and positive reinforcement), with positive and significant correlations, confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis, factor invariance tests, as well as reliability and convergent and discriminant validity and reliability. The results of the analysis of psychometric properties of the scale were moderate and allowed us to offer a valid and reliable 15-item an ad hoc instrument, with adequate values of validity and reliability, proving its usefulness the evaluation in Physical Education teachers the responsible use of physical fitness tests in their classes.

The high withdrawal rate in extracurricular sports represents a concern for sports organizations. Satisfaction and perceived value of users of extracurricular sports activities is a reason for continuity in them. There are significant relationships between the dimensions of service quality and organizational culture of the organization with satisfaction and perceived value of users, human factor being the main predictive dimension of perceived quality. Objectives of the study: i) to know the organizational culture expressed by sports technicians, ii) to find out satisfaction and perceived value of users, and the organizational culture in the different organizations and iii) to relate satisfaction and perceived value of users with organizational culture of extracurricular sports technicians. Methods: The study population was composed by 1,080 students and 95 extracurricular sports activities technicians from 22 secondary schools. Results: Satisfaction assessment for athletes was 4.33 ± 0.78 and perceived value was 3.72 ± 1.06. The organizational culture showed average values of 3.63 ± 0.41, the «Implication» variable being the best valued. By relating organizational culture with satisfaction and perceived value, it led to linear regression models consisting of two variables: Mission with a Beta coefficient values of .173 and .262, and Implication with Beta coefficient values of .140 and .198. Conclusion: A good organizational culture leads to increase in loyalty, which points this out as another factor to be taken into account for the reduction of extracurricular drop-out and the improvement of business profit.

The conceptual models facilitate the management of sport services that explain. But the models developed in other countries do not offer guarantees to reproduce correctly in Spain. The aim of this study was to test the reproducibility of the assessment model of sport services proposed by Murray and Howat (2002) in the context of sport organizations in Spain. In a sample of 2667 users of sport services in Spain, we have related the concepts of quality, value and satisfaction. We used structural equation modelling. Findings indicated that quality play a role as antecedent of the satisfaction and of the value. We found no relationship between value and satisfaction. This work is a step towards developing more comprehensive models, to assist managers of sport services to devise strategies that increase the satisfaction and user loyalty.

The number of physical activity practitioners increases. The amount of customers on sport centres is thus reinforced. Knowing the reasons of sport practise is a must for these centres. The aim of this research is knowing the reasons of sport practise and setting up a group of users from their motivations. The sample on this article has been a total of 2,707 users of sport services in Andalusia, from which 66.10% were male and 33.90% female, with an average age of 25.29 ± 12.83. The tool used was the MPAM-R scale adapted and validated in Spanish. A two-step conglomerate analysis was made, this technique seeks to set up groups trying to get the maximum homogeneity inside each group and the maximum differences among them. It has been found two different groups of users. The most relevant factors to set up the groups have been Competence, Joy and Fitness/Health. Group 1 is characterized by being made up of men, with a lower middle age who practise collective and individual sports. Group 2 includes a higher percentage of women, middle age people, who practise activities related to fitness and racket sports, being members of private centers.

The aim of this study was to examine the association between physical self-concept and physical activity, the intention to be physically active, life satisfaction, and adherence to the Mediterranean diet in adolescents. A total of 1,808 Spanish adolescents (12-16 years of age) participated in this cross-sectional study. Physical Self Questionnaire, Moderate-to-Vigorous Physical Activity Screening Measure, Intention to be Physically Active Scale, Satisfaction with Life Scale, and Mediterranean Diet Quality Index were administered. The boys with a lower physical self-concept showed higher odd ratios of being inactive, having low intentions of being physically active, poor life satisfaction and low adherence to the Mediterranean diet. Similarly, most of the associations were also statistically significant in girls as well. In conclusion, the study reveals that having a low level of physical self-concept increases the risk of being inactive and of having a low level of intention to be physically active, life satisfaction and adherence to the Mediterranean diet in adolescents. The study received a grant from the University Teaching Staff programme, implemented by the Spanish Government, Ministry of Education (AP-2009-3829).

Background: The Mediterranean diet is one of the healthier diet models. Mediterranean food patterns are suffering a deterioration that can especially affect children and adolescents. Objective: Determine adherence to the Mediterranean diet in adolescents of southern Spain and its relationship with the residence area, sex, age, life satisfaction, anthro pometry, and habits of physical activity and sedentary activities. Methodology: A total of 1973 adolescents (11-18 years) of southern Spain participated in this descriptive cross sectional study. Cut-off value between rural and urban locations was 10000 inhabitants. Adherence to the Mediter ranean diet was calculated from the KIDMED question naire. Life satisfaction, physical activity, and sedentary activities also were measured through valid and reliable questionnaires. Body mass index and % body fat were measured using the TANITA BC-420-S body analyzer. Results: 30.9% of the adolescents reported an optimal quality diet, percent higher in rural locations (P < 0.05). Adherence was lower in older adolescents (P < 0.001), it was not different between sexes or according to anthropometric variables. Adolescents more satisfied with their lives (P < 0.001), more active (P < 0.001), more studious (P < 0.001), and less sedentary in front of a screen (P < 0.001) showed greater adherence to the Mediterranean food pattern. Conclusion: The majority of adolescents need to improve their nutritional quality. Compared with these subjects, the adolescents most adherent to the Mediterranean diet had a healthier lifestyle and they showed greater life satisfaction.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the perceived quality, satisfaction and the perceived value among customers of public and private professional sports services in Spain, and to establish prediction models for satisfaction and perceived value. The sample was comprised of 2,027 users of Spanish sports services, of whom 66.1% were men and 33.9% were women. All users completed a self-administered questionnaire. The psychometric properties of the questionnaire ensured a valid measurement of perceived quality, satisfaction and value. The results obtained revealed that the quality of the sports service received was good, and that the technical factors and service staff received the highest evaluations, however, information provided to users was the weakest point. Customer satisfaction and perceived value were also assessed positively. Significant differences were found in these three constructs depending on the activity group that the users were in. Combat activities scored highest for quality, and lowest for satisfaction, whereas customers of individual land-based sports were the most satisfied and perceived the most value, unlike racquet sports, which obtained the lowest scores in the three constructs. Both satisfaction with the service and the perceived value of the service depended chiefly on an intangible factor such as activities. The study was supported financially by the SEJ 046 Research Group, Sport and IT Department, Sport Faculty, Pablo de Olavide University, Seville. It also received support from the University Teaching Staff programme, implemented by the Spanish Government, the Ministry of Education.

The aim of the study was to assess the effects that a steps/day programme may have on body mass index (BMI) among primary education students (11.37±0.48 years). A six-week controlled trial with a follow-up was completed with an experimental group (N=66, pedometer + steps/day programme + reinforcement programme in their physical education (PE) marks + weekly follow-up in PE), and a control group (N=76). Omron HJ-152-E2 pedometers were used. Normoweight students complied with programme requirements to a greater extent than their overweight counterparts (72.7 vs 59.1%). The programmed minimum number of 12,000 steps/day for boys and 10,000 for girls was exceeded by 83% of boys and 60% of girls. The differences in the number of steps/day between boys (14,274) and girls (10,626) were significant across all the measured periods (p<.05). The results show that the teenagers who complied with the programme requirements reduced their BMI significantly after the intervention (p<.001) and this reduction persisted for six weeks after the programme (p<.001). In conclusion, the six-week programme of 12,000 steps/day for boys and 10,000 for girls, jointly with a reinforcement programme in their PE marks and weekly follow-up by their PE teacher, reduces BMI significantly in 11-12-year-old schoolchildren. Monitored steps/day programmes in the PE curriculum increase out-of-school physical activity and reduce BMI in 11-12-year-old schoolchildren. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
