Search

We present the activities of the "New Physics" working group for the "Physics at TeV Colliders" workshop (Les Houches, France, 3--21 June, 2013). Our report includes new computational tool developments, studies of the implications of the Higgs boson discovery on new physics, important signatures for searches for natural new physics at the LHC, new studies of flavour aspects of new physics, and assessments of the interplay between direct dark matter searches and the LHC., Comment: Proceedings of the New Physics Working Group of the 2013 Les Houches Workshop, Physics at TeV Colliders, Les Houches 3-21 June 2013. 201 pages

The most recent LHC data have provided a considerable improvement in the precision with which various Higgs production and decay channels have been measured. Using all available public results from ATLAS, CMS and the Tevatron, we derive for each final state the combined confidence level contours for the signal strengths in the (gluon fusion + ttH associated production) versus (vector boson fusion + VH associated production) space. These "combined signal strength ellipses" can be used in a simple, generic way to constrain a very wide class of New Physics models in which the couplings of the Higgs boson deviate from the Standard Model prediction. Here, we use them to constrain the reduced couplings of the Higgs boson to up-quarks, down-quarks/leptons and vector boson pairs. We also consider New Physics contributions to the loop-induced gluon-gluon and photon-photon couplings of the Higgs, as well as invisible/unseen decays. Finally, we apply our fits to some simple models with an extended Higgs sector, in particular to Two-Higgs-Doublet models of Type I and Type II, the Inert Doublet model, and the Georgi-Machacek triplet Higgs model., Comment: 31 pages, 15 figures; v2: fixed important factor of 2 missing in Eq. We analyze the extent to which the LHC and Tevatron results as of the end of 2012 constrain invisible (or undetected) decays of the Higgs boson-like state at ~ 125 GeV. To this end we perform global fits for several cases: 1) a Higgs boson with Standard Model (SM) couplings but additional invisible decay modes; 2) SM couplings to fermions and vector bosons, but allowing for additional new particles modifying the effective Higgs couplings to gluons and photons; 3) no new particles in the loops but tree-level Higgs couplings to the up-quarks, down-quarks and vector bosons, relative to the SM, treated as free parameters. We find that in the three cases invisible decay rates of 23%, 61%, 88%, respectively, are consistent with current data at 95% confidence level (CL). Limiting the coupling to vector bosons, CV, to CV < 1 in case 3) reduces the allowed invisible branching ratio to 56% at 95% CL. Requiring in addition that the Higgs couplings to quarks have the same sign as in the SM, an invisible rate of up to 36% is allowed at 95% CL. Performing a fit to all publicly available data, we analyze the extent to which the latest results from the LHC and Tevatron constrain the couplings of the Higgs boson-like state at ~ 125 GeV. To this end we assume that only Standard Model (SM) particles appear in the Higgs decays, but tree-level Higgs couplings to the up-quarks, down-quarks and vector bosons, relative to the SM are free parameters. We also assume that the leptonic couplings relative to the SM are the same as for the down-quark, and a custodial symmetry for the V=W,Z couplings. In the simplest approach, the effective Higgs couplings to gluons and photons are computed in terms of the previous parameters. This approach is also applied to Two-Higgs-Doublet Models of Type I and Type II. However, we also explore the possibility that the net Higgs to gluon-gluon and gamma-gamma couplings have extra loop contributions coming from Beyond-the-Standard Model physics. We find that the SM p-value ~ 0.5 is more than 2 sigma away from fits in which: a) there is some non-SM contribution to the gamma-gamma coupling of the Higgs; or b) the sign of the top quark coupling to the Higgs is opposite that of the W coupling. In both these cases p-values ~ 0.9 can be achieved. The best fit to the Tevatron results in the bb channel and the mild excesses at CMS in the gamma-gamma channel at 136 GeV and in the tau-tau channel above 132 GeV can be explained by a second Higgs state in this mass range, in addition to the one at 125 GeV recently discovered at the LHC. We show that a scenario with two Higgs bosons at 125 GeV and 136 GeV can be consistent with practically all available signal rates, including a reduced rate in the tau-tau channel around 125 GeV as reported by CMS. An example in the parameter space of the general NMSSM is given where, moreover, the signal rates of the 125 GeV Higgs boson in the gamma-gamma channels are enhanced relative to the expectation for a SM Higgs boson of this mass., Comment: 13 pages, 4 Tables

We present a set of recommendations for the presentation of LHC results on searches for new physics, which are aimed at providing a more efficient flow of scientific information between the experimental collaborations and the rest of the high energy physics community, and at facilitating the interpretation of the results in a wide class of models. We define benchmark models for SUSY searches at the LHC, including the CMSSM, NUHM, mGMSB, mAMSB, MM-AMSB and p19MSSM, as well as models with R-parity violation and the NMSSM. Within the parameter spaces of these models, we propose benchmark subspaces, including planes, lines and points along them. The planes may be useful for presenting results of the experimental searches in different SUSY scenarios, while the specific benchmark points may serve for more detailed detector performance tests and comparisons. We also describe algorithms for defining suitable benchmark points along the proposed lines in the parameter spaces, and we define a few benchmark points motivated by recent fits to existing experimental data., Comment: 30 pages, 4 figures. v2 fixes few typos and bibliography. v3 updates Fig.1 and bibliography

Discoveries at the LHC will soon set the physics agenda for future colliders. This report of a CERN Theory Institute includes the summaries of Working Groups that reviewed the physics goals and prospects of LHC running with 10 to 300/fb of integrated luminosity, of the proposed sLHC luminosity upgrade, of the ILC, of CLIC, of the LHeC and of a muon collider. The four Working Groups considered possible scenarios for the first 10/fb of data at the LHC in which (i) a state with properties that are compatible with a Higgs boson is discovered, (ii) no such state is discovered either because the Higgs properties are such that it is difficult to detect or because no Higgs boson exists, (iii) a missing-energy signal beyond the Standard Model is discovered as in some supersymmetric models, and (iv) some other exotic signature of new physics is discovered. In the contexts of these scenarios, the Working Groups reviewed the capabilities of the future colliders to study in more detail whatever new physics may be discovered by the LHC. We present the FP420 R&D project, which has been studying the key aspects of the development and installation of a silicon tracker and fast-timing detectors in the LHC tunnel at 420 m from the interaction points of the ATLAS and CMS experiments. These detectors would measure precisely very forward protons in conjunction with the corresponding central detectors as a means to study Standard Model (SM) physics, and to search for and characterise New Physics signals. This report includes a detailed description of the physics case for the detector and, in particular, for the measurement of Central Exclusive Production, pp --> p + phi + p, in which the outgoing protons remain intact and the central system phi may be a single particle such as a SM or MSSM Higgs boson. Other physics topics discussed are gamma-gamma and gamma-p interactions, and diffractive processes. The report includes a detailed study of the trigger strategy, acceptance, reconstruction efficiencies, and expected yields for a particular p p --> p H p measurement with Higgs boson decay in the b-bbar mode. The document also describes the detector acceptance as given by the LHC beam optics between the interaction points and the FP420 location, the machine backgrounds, the new proposed connection cryostat and the moving ("Hamburg") beam-pipe at 420 m, and the radio-frequency impact of the design on the LHC. The simplest supersymmetric model that solves the mu problem and in which the GUT-scale parameters need not be finely tuned in order to predict the correct value of the Z boson mass at low scales is the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM). However, in order that fine tuning be absent, the lightest CP-even Higgs boson h should have mass ~100 GeV and SM couplings to gauge bosons and fermions. The only way that this can be consistent with LEP limits is if h decays primarily via h->aa->4 tau or 4j but not 4b, where a is the lighter of the two pseudo-scalar Higgses that are present in the NMSSM. Interestingly, m_a < 2 m_b is natural in the NMSSM with m_a > 2 m_tau somewhat preferred. Thus, h -> 4 tau becomes a key mode of interest. Meanwhile, all other Higgs bosons of the NMSSM are typically quite heavy. Detection of any of the NMSSM Higgs bosons at the LHC in this preferred scenario will be very challenging using conventional channels. In this paper, we demonstrate that the h -> aa -> 4 tau decay chain should be visible if the Higgs is produced in the process pp -> p+h+p with the final state protons being measured using suitably installed forward detectors. Moreover, we show that the mass of both the h and the a can be determined on an event-by-event basis., Comment: 23 pages

There are many possibilities for new physics beyond the Standard Model that feature non-standard Higgs sectors. These may introduce new sources of CP violation, and there may be mixing between multiple Higgs bosons or other new scalar bosons. Alternatively, the Higgs may be a composite state, or there may even be no Higgs at all. These non-standard Higgs scenarios have important implications for collider physics as well as for cosmology, and understanding their phenomenology is essential for a full comprehension of electroweak symmetry breaking. This report discusses the most relevant theories which go beyond the Standard Model and its minimal, CP-conserving supersymmetric extension: two-Higgs-doublet models and minimal supersymmetric models with CP violation, supersymmetric models with an extra singlet, models with extra gauge groups or Higgs triplets, Little Higgs models, models in extra dimensions, and models with technicolour or other new strong dynamics. High-precision analyses of supersymmetry parameters aim at reconstructing the fundamental supersymmetric theory and its breaking mechanism. A well defined theoretical framework is needed when higher-order corrections are included. We propose such a scheme, Supersymmetry Parameter Analysis SPA, based on a consistent set of conventions and input parameters. A repository for computer programs is provided which connect parameters in different schemes and relate the Lagrangian parameters to physical observables at LHC and high energy e+e- linear collider experiments, i.e., masses, mixings, decay widths and production cross sections for supersymmetric particles. In addition, programs for calculating high-precision low energy observables, the density of cold dark matter (CDM) in the universe as well as the cross sections for CDM search experiments are included. The SPA scheme still requires extended efforts on both the theoretical and experimental side before data can be evaluated in the future at the level of the desired precision. This report reviews the properties of Higgs bosons in the Standard Model (SM) and its various extensions. We give an extensive overview about the potential of the ILC operated at centre-of-mass energies up to 1 TeV (including the gamma gamma option) for the determination of the Higgs boson properties. This comprises the measurement of the Higgs boson mass, its couplings to SM fermions and gauge bosons, and the determination of the spin and the CP quantum numbers of the Higgs. The extensions of the SM that are analyzed in more detail are heavy SM-like Higgs bosons, heavy Higgs bosons in the framework of Supersymmetry (SUSY) and further exotic scenarios. We review recent theoretical developments in the field of Higgs boson physics. The important question what the ILC can contribute to Higgs boson physics after the LHC, the LHC/ILC interplay and synergy is discussed. The impact of Higgs boson physics on cosmology in several SUSY frameworks is analyzed. The impact of the accelerator and dector performance on the precision of measurements are discussed in detail. We propose a strategy to optimize future analyses. Physics at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the International e+e- Linear Collider (ILC) will be complementary in many respects, as has been demonstrated at previous generations of hadron and lepton colliders. This report addresses the possible interplay between the LHC and ILC in testing the Standard Model and in discovering and determining the origin of new physics. Mutual benefits for the physics programme at both machines can occur both at the level of a combined interpretation of Hadron Collider and Linear Collider data and at the level of combined analyses of the data, where results obtained at one machine can directly influence the way analyses are carried out at the other machine. Topics under study comprise the physics of weak and strong electroweak symmetry breaking, supersymmetric models, new gauge theories, models with extra dimensions, and electroweak and QCD precision physics. The status of the work that has been carried out within the LHC / LC Study Group so far is summarised in this report. Theoretical progress in Higgs boson production and background processes is discussed with particular emphasis on QCD corrections at and beyond next-to-leading order as well as next-to-leading order electroweak corrections. The residual theoretical uncertainties of the investigated processes are estimated in detail. Moreover, recent investigations of the MSSM Higgs sector and other extensions of the SM Higgs sector are presented. The work contained herein constitutes a report of the ``Beyond the Standard Model'' working group for the Workshop "Physics at TeV Colliders", Les Houches, France, 26 May--6 June, 2003. The research presented is original, and was performed specifically for the workshop. Tools for calculations in the minimal supersymmetric standard model are presented, including a comparison of the dark matter relic density predicted by public codes. Reconstruction of supersymmetric particle masses at the LHC and a future linear collider facility is examined. Less orthodox supersymmetric signals such as non-pointing photons and R-parity violating signals are studied. Features of extra dimensional models are examined next, including measurement strategies for radions and Higgs', as well as the virtual effects of Kaluza Klein modes of gluons. Assuming flat universal extra dimensions, we demonstrate that for a light Higgs boson the process $pp\to W^*W^* +X \to Higgs,graviscalars +X \to invisible+X$ will be observable at the $5 \sigma$ level at the LHC for the portion of the Higgs-graviscalar mixing ($\xi$) and effective Planck mass ($M_D$) parameter space where channels relying on visible Higgs decays fail to achieve a $5 \sigma$ signal. Further, we show that even for very modest values of $\xi$ the invisible decay signal probes to higher $M_D$ than does the ($\xi$-independent) jets/$\gam$ + missing energy signal from graviton radiation. We demonstrate that Higgs discovery at the LHC is possible in the context of the NMSSM even for those scenarios such that the only strongly produced Higgs boson is a very SM-like CP-even scalar which decays almost entirely to a pair of relatvely light CP-odd states. In combination with other search channels, we are on the verge of demonstrating that detection of at least one of the NMSSM Higgs bosons is guaranteed at the LHC for accumulated luminosity of $300 {\rm fb}^{-1}$., Comment: 8 pages, 1 figure, to appear in the Proceedings of the Les Houches Workshop 2003: ``Physics at TeV Colliders''

We derive the Lagrangian and Feynman rules up to bilinear scalar fields for the mixed Higgs-radion eigenstates interacting with Standard Model particles confined to a 3-brane in Randall-Sundrum warped geometry. We use the results to compute precision electroweak observables and compare theory predictions with experiment. We characterize the interesting regions of parameter space that simultaneously enable a very heavy Higgs mass and a very heavy radion mass, both masses being well above the putative Higgs boson mass limit in the Standard Model derived from the constraints of precision electroweak observables. For parameters consistent with the precision constraints the Higgs boson physical eigenstate is typically detectable, but its properties may be difficult to study at the Large Hadron Collider. In contrast, masses and couplings are allowed for the physical radion eigenstate that make it unobservable at the LHC. A Linear Collider will significantly improve our ability to study the Higgs eigenstate, and will typically allow detection of the radion eigenstate if it is within the machine's kinematical reach., Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures; revisions: typo correction for Feynman rules and 1 reference added

Generalizations of the Randall-Sundrum model containing a bulk scalar field $\Phi$ interacting with the curvature $R$ through the general coupling $R f(\Phi)$ are considered. We derive the general form of the effective 4D potential for the spin-zero fields and show that in the mass matrix the radion mixes with the Kaluza-Klein modes of the bulk scalar fluctuations. We demonstrate that it is possible to choose a non-trivial background form $\Phi_0(y)$ (where $y$ is the extra dimension coordinate) for the bulk scalar field such that the exact Randall-Sundrum metric is preserved (i.e. such that there is no back-reaction). We compute the mass matrix for the radion and the KK modes of the excitations of the bulk scalar relative to the background configuration $\Phi_0(y)$ and find that the resulting mass matrix implies a non-zero value for the mass of the radion (identified as the state with the lowest eigenvalue of the scalar mass matrix). We find that this mass is suppressed relative to the Planck scale by the standard warp factor needed to explain the hierarchy puzzle, implying that a mass $\sim 1\tev$ is a natural order of magnitude for the radion mass. We compute the cross section for e+e- --> nu nu-bar A, where A is the CP-odd scalar, in the general CP-conserving type-II two-Higgs-doublet model. We sum the contributions from the ``t-channel'' e+e- --> nu nu-bar W W --> nu nu-bar A graphs and ``s-channel'' e+e- --> Z A --> nu nu-bar A graphs, including their interference. Higgs-triangle graphs and all box diagrams are included. For many parameter choices, especially those in the decoupling region of parameter space (light h and m_A, m_H, m_H^+ > 2 m_Z), the Higgs-triangle and box diagrams are found to be of minor importance, the main contributing loops being the top and bottom quark triangle diagrams. The predicted cross section is rather small for tan beta > 2 and/or m_A > 2 m_t. However, we also show that if parameters are chosen corresponding to large Higgs self-couplings then the Higgs-triangle graphs can greatly enhance the cross section. We also demonstrate that the SUSY-loop corrections to the b b-bar A coupling could be such as to greatly enhance this coupling, resulting in an enhanced nu nu-bar A cross section. The ratio of neutral Higgs field vacuum expectation values, tan(beta), is one of the most important parameters to determine in either the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) or a general type-II Two-Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM). Assuming an energy and integrated luminosity of sqrts=500 GeV and L=2000 fb-1 at a future linear collider (LC), we show that a very accurate determination of tan(beta) will be possible for low and high tan(beta) values by measuring the production rates of Higgs bosons and reconstructing Higgs boson decays. In particular, based on a TESLA simulation, and assuming no other light Higgs bosons and 100<=mA<=200 GeV, we find that the rate for the process e+e- --> bbA --> bbbb provides a good determination of tan(beta) at high tan(beta). In the MSSM Higgs sector, in the sample case of mA = 200 GeV, we find that the rates for e+e- --> bbA+bbH --> bbbb and for e+e- --> HA --> bbbb provide a good determination of tan(beta) at high and low tan(beta), respectively. We also show that the direct measurement of the average total widths of the H and A in e+e- --> HA --> bbbb events provides an excellent determination of tan(beta) at large values. In addition, the charged Higgs boson process e+e- --> H+H- --> tbtb has been studied. The sensitivity to tan(beta) at the LHC obtained directly from heavy Higgs boson production is briefly compared to the LC results., Comment: 25 pages, 8 figures, revtex4

The ratio of the vacuum expectation value of the two Higgs doublets, tan(beta), is an important parameter of the general 2-Higgs-Doublet Model (2HDM) and the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM). The expected uncertainty on the determination of tan(beta) at a Linear Collider (LC) of at least 500 GeV center-of-mass energy and high luminosity is reviewed based on studies of neutral and charged Higgs boson production., Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures. We present new results from studies in progress on physics at a two-photon collider. We report on the sensitivity to top squark parameters of MSSM Higgs boson production in two-photon collisions; Higgs boson decay to two photons; radion production in models of warped extra dimensions; chargino pair production; sensitivity to the trilinear Higgs boson coupling; charged Higgs boson pair production; and we discuss the backgrounds produced by resolved photon-photon interactions., Comment: 17 pages, 15 figures

We derive the effective potential for the Standard Model Higgs-boson sector interacting with Kaluza-Klein excitations of the graviton ($h_\mu^{\nu n}$) and the radion ($\phi$) and show that {\it only} the Standard Model vacuum solution of $\partial V(h)/\partial h =0$ (h is the Higgs field) is allowed. We then consider the consequences of the curvature-scalar mixing xi R \Hhat^\dagger \Hhat$ (where $\Hhat$ is a Higgs doublet field on the visible brane), which causes the physical mass eigenstates h and $\phi$ to be mixtures of the original Higgs and radion fields. First, we discuss the theoretical constraints on the allowed parameter space. Next, we give precise procedures for computing the h and $\phi$ couplings given the {\it physical} eigenstate masses, mh and $\mphi$, xi and the new physics scales of the model. We show that LEP/LEP2 data implies that not both the h and $\phi$ can be light. In the allowed region of parameter space, we examine numerically the couplings and branching ratios of the h and $\phi$ for several cases with $\mh=120\gev$ and $\mphi\leq 300\gev$. The resulting prospects for detection of the h and $\phi$ at the LHC, a future LC and a $\gam\gam$ collider are reviewed. For moderate $|\xi|$, both the anomalous $h\to gg$ coupling and (when $\mh>2\mphi$) the non-standard decay channel $h \to \phi\phi$ can substantially impact h discovery. Presence of the latter is a direct signature for non-zero xi. We find that $BR(h \to \phi\phi)$ as large as $30 \div 40 %$ is possible when $|\xi|$ is large. Conversely, if $\mphi>2\mh$ then $BR(\phi\to hh)$ is generally large. The feasibility of experimentally measuring the anomalous gg and $\gam\gam$ couplings of the h and $\phi$ is examined., Comment: 62 page, 30 figures. Report of the "Beyond the Standard Model" working group for the Workshop `Physics at TeV Colliders', Les Houches, France, 21 May - 1 June 2001. It consists of 18 separate parts: 1. Preface; 2. It is widely stated that the ratio of neutral Higgs field vacuum expectation values, $\tanb$, is one of the most difficult parameters to determine in either the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) or a general type-II Two-Higgs Doublet Model (2HDM). Assuming an energy and integrated luminosity of $\rts=500\gev$ and $\call=2000\fbi$, we show that a very accurate determination of $\tanb$ will often be possible using Higgs production rates and/or Higgs decays. Based on a TESLA simulation, and assuming no other light Higgs bosons and $100\leq m_A \leq 200\gev$, we find that the rate for the process $\epem\to b\anti b A \to b\anti b b\anti b$ provides an excellent determination of $\tanb$ at high $\tanb$. In the MSSM Higgs sector, the rate for $\epem\to b\anti b A+ b\anti b H \to b\anti b b\anti b$ ($\epem\to HA \to b\anti b b\anti b$) provides a good determination of $\tanb$ at high (low) $\tanb$, respectively, at moderate $m_A$ values. We also show that direct measurement of the average total width of the $H$ and $A$ in $\epem\to HA \to b\anti b b\anti b$ events provides an excellent determination of $\tanb$ at large $\tanb$., Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures. We scan the parameter space of the NMSSM for the observability of at least one Higgs boson at the LHC with $300\fbi$ integrated luminosity, taking the present LEP2 constraints into account. We restrict the scan to those regions of parameter space for which Higgs boson decays to other Higgs bosons and/or supersymmetric particles are kinematically forbidden. We find that if $WW$-fusion detection modes for a light Higgs boson are not taken into account, then there are still significant regions in the scanned portion of the NMSSM parameter space where no Higgs boson can be observed at the $5\sigma$ level, despite the recent improvements in ATLAS and CMS procedures and techniques and even if we combine all non-fusion discovery channels. However, if the $WW$-fusion detection modes are included using the current theoretical study estimates, then we find that for all scanned points at least one of the NMSSM Higgs bosons will be detected. If the estimated $300\fbi$ significances for ATLAS and CMS are combined, one can also achieve $5\sigma$ signals after combining just the non-$WW$-fusion channels signals. We present the parameters of several particularly difficult points, and discuss the complementary roles played by different modes. We outline the unique role of a muon collider as a Higgs factory for Higgs boson resonance production in the $s$-channel. Physics examples include: the precision measurements of the Higgs mass and total width, and the resulting ability to discriminate between the SM-like Higgs bosons of different models such as between a light SM Higgs boson and the light Higgs boson of the MSSM; the determination of the spin and coupling via the $h\to \tautau$ decay mode; differentiation of two nearly degenerate heavy Higgs bosons by an energy scan; and the ability to explore a general extended Higgs sector, possibly with CP-violating couplings. We consider a CP-conserving two-Higgs-doublet type II model with a light scalar or pseudoscalar neutral Higgs boson ($\h=\hl$ or $\h=\ha$) that has no $ZZ/WW$ coupling and, thus, cannot be detected in $\epem\to Z\h$ (Higgs-strahlung) or $\nu\anti\nu \h$ (via $WW$ fusion). Despite sum rules which ensure that the light $\h$ must have significant $t\anti t$ or $b\anti b$ coupling, for a wedge of moderate $\tanb$, that becomes increasingly large as $\mh$ increases, the $\h$ can also escape discovery in both $b\anti b \h$ and $t\anti t \h$ production at a $\rts=500-800\gev$ $\epem$ collider (for expected luminosities). If the other Higgs bosons happen to be too heavy to be produced, then no Higgs boson would be detected. We demonstrate that, despite such high masses for the other Higgs bosons, only the low-$\tanb$ portion of the no-discovery wedges in $[\mh,\tanb]$ parameter space can be excluded due to failure to fit precision electroweak observables. In the $\tanb\gsim 1$ regions of the no-discovery wedges, we find that the 2HDM fit to precision electroweak observables has small $\Delta\chi^2$ relative to the best minimal one-doublet SM fit., Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures. 1st two figures have been reformatted to improve readability

There are many low-energy models of supersymmetry breaking parameters which are motivated by theoretical and experimental considerations. Here, we discuss some of the lesser-known theories of low-energy supersymmetry, and outline their phenomenological consequences. In some cases, these theories have more gauge symmetry or particle content than the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. In other cases, the parameters of the Lagrangian are unusual compared to commonly accepted norms (e.g., Wino LSP, heavy gluino LSP, light gluino, etc.). The phenomenology of supersymmetry varies greatly between the different models. Correspondingly, particular aspects of the detectors assume greater or lesser importance. We study the use of polarization asymmetries at a muon collider to determine the CP-even and CP-odd couplings of a Higgs boson to $\mu^+mu^-$. We determine achievable accuracy as a function of beam polarization and luminosity. The appropriate techniques for dealing with the polarization precession are outlined. Strategies especially appropriate for a two-Higgs-doublet model (including the MSSM) are given. Our general conclusion is that polarization will be very useful, especially if the proton source is such that full luminosity in the storage ring can be retained even after imposing cuts on the originally accepted muons necessary for $P\gsim 0.4$ for each beam., Comment: 33 pages, 10 figures, equations.sty

The open light gluino window allows non-trivial higher twist gluino contributions to the proton wave function. Using a two-component model originally developed for charm hadroproduction, higher twist intrinsic gluino contributions to final state R-hadron formation are shown to enhance leading twist production in the forward $x_{F}$ region. We calculate R-hadron production at $p_{\rm{lab}}=800$ GeV in pp, pBe, and pCu interactions with light gluino masses of 1.2, 1.5, 3.5, and 5.0 GeV., Comment: 22 pages, 10 figures, revtex

Already in the simplest two-Higgs-doublet model with CP violation in the Higgs sector, the $3\times3$ mixing matrix for the neutral Higgs bosons can substantially modify their couplings, thereby endangering the ``classical'' Higgs search strategies. However, there are sum rules relating Yukawa and Higgs-Z couplings which ensure that the ZZ, $b\anti b$ and $t\anti t$ couplings of a given neutral 2HDM Higgs boson cannot all be simultaneously suppressed. This result implies that any single Higgs boson will be detectable at an e^+e^- collider if the Z+Higgs, $b\anti b+$Higgs {\it and} $t\anti t+$Higgs production channels are all kinematically accessible {\it and} if the integrated luminosity is sufficient. We explore, as a function of Higgs mass, the luminosity required to guarantee Higgs boson detection, and find that for moderate $\tan\beta$ values the needed luminosity is unlikely to be available for all possible mixing scenarios. The additional difficulties for the case when the two-doublet Higgs sector is extended by adding one more singlet are summarized. In a class of models of dynamical symmetry breaking not ruled out by the available data, the lightest neutral pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone boson P0 contains only down-type techniquarks and charged technileptons. Its mass scale is naturally determined by the b-quark and therefore it is likely to be light. As the presence of pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone bosons in models of dynamical symmetry breaking is a quite general feature, the search of the P0 at colliders is an interesting opportunity of putting limits on or discovering a dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking scenario. For some choices of soft SUSY-breaking parameters, the LSP is a stable neutralino $\cnone$, the NLSP is a chargino $\cpmone$ almost degenerate in mass with the LSP ($\dmchi\equiv\mcpmone-\mcnone\sim \mpi-$few GeV), and all other sparticles are relatively heavy. In this case, detection of sparticles in the usual, mSUGRA-motivated signals will be difficult, since the decay products in $\cpmone\to\cnone...$ will be very soft, and alternative signals must be considered. Here, we study the viability of signatures at the Tevatron based on highly-ionizing charged tracks, disappearing charged tracks, large impact parameters, missing transverse energy and a jet or a photon, and determine the mass reach of such signatures assuming that only the $\cpmone$ and $\cnone$ are light. We also consider the jet+$\etmiss$ and $\gamma+\etmiss$ signatures assuming that the gluino is also light with $\mgl\sim \mcpmone$. We find that the mass reach is critically dependent upon $\dmchi$ and $\mgl-\mcpmone$. If $\dmchi$ is sufficiently big that $c\tau(\cpmone)\lsim$few cm and $\mgl$ is large, there is a significant possibility that the limits on $\mcpmone$ based on LEP2 data cannot be extended at the Tevatron. If $c\tau(\cpmone)>$few cm, relatively background-free signals exist that will give a clear signal of $\cpmone$ production (for some range of $\mcpmone$) even if $\mgl$ is very large., Comment: 44 pages, equations.sty, submitted to Phys. We present an outlook for possible discovery of supersymmetry with broken R-parity at Run II of the Tevatron. We first present a review of the literature and an update of the experimental bounds. In turn we then discuss the following processes: 1. Resonant slepton production followed by R-parity violating decay, (a) via $LQD^c$ and (b) via $LLE^c$. 2. How to distinguish resonant slepton production from $Z'$ or $W'$ production. 3. Resonant slepton production followed by the decay to neutralino LSP, which decays via $LQD^c$. 4. Resonant stop production followed by the decay to a chargino, which cascades to the neutralino LSP. 5. Gluino pair production followed by the cascade decay to charm squarks which decay directly via $L_1Q_2D^c_1$. 6. Squark pair production followed by the cascade decay to the neutralino LSP which decays via $L_1Q_2D^c_1$. 7. The procedures for studying a single narrow s-channel resonance or nearly degenerate resonances at a lepton collider, especially a muon collider, are discussed. In particular, we examine four methods for determining the parameters of a narrow s-channel resonance: scanning the resonance, measuring the convoluted cross section, measuring the Breit-Wigner area, and sitting on the resonance while varying the beam energy resolution. This latter procedure is new and appears to be potentially very powerful. Our focus is on computing the errors in resonance parameters resulting from uncertainty in the beam energy spread. Means for minimizing these errors are discussed. The discussion is applied to the examples of a light SM-Higgs, of the lightest pseudogoldstone boson of strong electroweak breaking, and of the two spin-1 resonances of the Degenerate BESS model (assuming that the beam energy spread is less than their mass splitting). We also examine the most effective procedures for nearly degenerate resonances, and apply these to the case of Degenerate BESS resonances with mass splitting of order the beam energy spread., Comment: 63 pages, 16 figures

We explore an alternative to the usual procedure of scanning for determining the properties of a narrow $s$-channel resonance. By varying the beam energy resolution while sitting on the resonance peak, the width and branching ratios of the resonance can be determined. The statistical accuracy achieved is superior to that of the usual scan procedure in the case of a light SM-like Higgs boson with $\mh>130\gev$ or for the lightest pseudogoldstone boson of a strong electroweak breaking model if $\mpzero>150\gev$., Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure

We correct our treatment of decays of the lightest chargino to final states containing the lightest neutralino in the case where the chargino and neutralino masses differ by less than 1 GeV. We discuss a general two-Higgs-doublet model with CP violation in the Higgs sector. In general, the three neutral Higgs fields of the model all mix and the resulting physical Higgs bosons have no definite CP properties. We derive a new sum rule relating Yukawa and Higgs-Z couplings which implies that a neutral Higgs boson cannot escape detection at an e^+e^- collider if it is kinematically accessible in Z+Higgs, $b\anti b+$Higgs and $t\anti t+$Higgs production, irrespective of the mixing angles and the masses of the other neutral Higgs bosons.
