Promptable segmentation foundation models have emerged as a transformative approach to addressing the diverse needs in medical images, but most existing models require expensive computing, posing a big barrier to their adoption in clinical practice. In this work, we organized the first international competition dedicated to promptable medical image segmentation, featuring a large-scale dataset spanning nine common imaging modalities from over 20 different institutions. The top teams developed lightweight segmentation foundation models and implemented an efficient inference pipeline that substantially reduced computational requirements while maintaining state-of-the-art segmentation accuracy. Moreover, the post-challenge phase advanced the algorithms through the design of performance booster and reproducibility tasks, resulting in improved algorithms and validated reproducibility of the winning solution. Furthermore, the best-performing algorithms have been incorporated into the open-source software with a user-friendly interface to facilitate clinical adoption. Human-AI co-creativity represents a transformative shift in how humans and generative AI tools collaborate in creative processes. This chapter explores the synergies between human ingenuity and AI capabilities across four levels of interaction: Digital Pen, AI Task Specialist, AI Assistant, and AI Co-Creator. While earlier digital tools primarily facilitated creativity, generative AI systems now contribute actively, demonstrating autonomous creativity in producing novel and valuable outcomes. Empirical evidence from mathematics showcases how AI can extend human creative potential, from computational problem-solving to co-creative partnerships yielding breakthroughs in longstanding challenges. By analyzing these collaborations, the chapter highlights AI's potential to enhance human creativity without replacing it, underscoring the importance of balancing AI's contributions with human oversight and contextual understanding. This integration pushes the boundaries of creative achievements, emphasizing the need for human-centered AI systems that foster collaboration while preserving the unique qualities of human creativity.

The study of twisted two-dimensional (2D) materials, where twisting layers create moir\'e superlattices, has opened new opportunities for investigating topological phases and strongly correlated physics. While systems such as twisted bilayer graphene (TBG) and twisted transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) have been extensively studied, the broader potential of a seemingly infinite set of other twistable 2D materials remains largely unexplored. In this paper, we define "theoretically twistable materials" as single- or multi-layer structures that allow for the construction of simple continuum models of their moir\'e structures. This excludes, for example, materials with a "spaghetti" of bands or those with numerous crossing points at the Fermi level, for which theoretical moir\'e modeling is unfeasible. We present a high-throughput algorithm that systematically searches for theoretically twistable semimetals and insulators based on the Topological 2D Materials Database. By analyzing key electronic properties, we identify thousands of new candidate materials that could host rich topological and strongly correlated phenomena when twisted. We propose representative twistable materials for realizing different types of moir\'e systems, including materials with different Bravais lattices, valleys, and strength of spin-orbital coupling. We provide examples of crystal growth for several of these materials and showcase twisted bilayer band structures along with simplified twisted continuum models. Our results significantly broaden the scope of moir\'e heterostructures and provide a valuable resource for future experimental and theoretical studies on novel moir\'e systems., Comment: 15+81 pages, 5+187 figures, 4+104 tables. The INTENTAS project aims to develop an atomic sensor utilizing entangled Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) in a microgravity environment. This key achievement is necessary to advance the capability for measurements that benefit from both entanglement-enhanced sensitivities and extended interrogation times. The project addresses significant challenges related to size, weight, and power management (SWaP) specific to the experimental platform at the Einstein-Elevator in Hannover. The design ensures a low-noise environment essential for the creation and detection of entanglement. Additionally, the apparatus features an innovative approach to the all-optical creation of BECs, providing a flexible system for various configurations and meeting the requirements for rapid turnaround times. Successful demonstration of this technology in the Einstein-Elevator will pave the way for a future deployment in space, where its potential applications will unlock high-precision quantum sensing.

This paper introduces a generic framework that provides sufficient conditions for guaranteeing polynomial-time decidability of fixed-negation fragments of first-order theories that adhere to certain fixed-parameter tractability requirements. It enables deciding sentences of such theories with arbitrary existential quantification, conjunction and a fixed number of negation symbols in polynomial time. It was recently shown by Nguyen and Pak [SIAM J. Comput. 51(2): 1--31 (2022)] that an even more restricted such fragment of Presburger arithmetic (the first-order theory of the integers with addition and order) is NP-hard. In contrast, by application of our framework, we show that the fixed negation fragment of weak Presburger arithmetic, which drops the order relation from Presburger arithmetic in favour of equality, is decidable in polynomial time.

Bose-Einstein condensates (BECs) of neutral atoms constitute an important quantum system for fundamental research and precision metrology. Many applications require short preparation times of BECs, for example, for optimized data acquisition rates in scientific applications, and reduced dead times and improved bandwidths for atomic quantum sensors. Here, we report on the generation of rubidium BECs with a repetition rate of more than 2 Hz. The system relies on forced evaporation in a dynamically adjusted optical potential, which is created by the spatial modulation of laser beams. Our system provides a versatile source of the ubiquitous rubidium BECs, and promotes their exploitation for high-precision atom interferometers.

Synchronized behavior among individuals is a ubiquitous feature of populations. Understanding mechanisms of (de)synchronization demands meaningful, interpretable, computable quantifications of synchrony, relevant to measurements that can be made of dynamic populations. Despite the importance to analyzing and modeling populations, existing notions of synchrony often lack rigorous definitions, may be specialized to a particular experimental system and/or measurement, or may have undesirable properties that limit their utility. We introduce a notion of synchrony for populations of individuals occupying a compact metric space that depends on the Fr\'{e}chet variance of the distribution of individuals. We establish several fundamental and desirable mathematical properties of this synchrony measure, including continuity and invariance to metric scaling. We establish a general approximation result that controls the disparity between synchrony in the true space and the synchrony observed through a discretization of state space, as may occur when observable states are limited by measurement constraints. We develop efficient algorithms to compute synchrony in a variety of state spaces, including all finite state spaces and empirical distributions on the circle, and provide accessible implementations in an open-source Python module. To demonstrate the usefulness of the synchrony measure in biological applications, we investigate several biologically relevant models of mechanisms that can alter the dynamics of synchrony over time, and reanalyze published data concerning the dynamics of the intraerythrocytic developmental cycles of $\textit{Plasmodium}$ parasites. We anticipate that the rigorous definition of population synchrony and the mathematical and biological results presented here will be broadly useful in analyzing and modeling populations in a variety of contexts.

The current standard model of cosmology successfully describes a variety of measurements, but the nature of its main ingredients, dark matter and dark energy, remains unknown. Euclid is a medium-class mission in the Cosmic Vision 2015-2025 programme of the European Space Agency (ESA) that will provide high-resolution optical imaging, as well as near-infrared imaging and spectroscopy, over about 14,000 deg^2 of extragalactic sky. In addition to accurate weak lensing and clustering measurements that probe structure formation over half of the age of the Universe, its primary probes for cosmology, these exquisite data will enable a wide range of science. This paper provides a high-level overview of the mission, summarising the survey characteristics, the various data-processing steps, and data products. All known quantifier elimination procedures for Presburger arithmetic require doubly exponential time for eliminating a single block of existentially quantified variables. It has even been claimed in the literature that this upper bound is tight. We observe that this claim is incorrect and develop, as the main result of this paper, a quantifier elimination procedure eliminating a block of existentially quantified variables in singly exponential time. As corollaries, we can establish the precise complexity of numerous problems. Examples include deciding (i) monadic decomposability for existential formulas, (ii) whether an existential formula defines a well-quasi ordering or, more generally, (iii) certain formulas of Presburger arithmetic with Ramsey quantifiers. Moreover, despite the exponential blowup, our procedure shows that under mild assumptions, even NP upper bounds for decision problems about quantifier-free formulas can be transferred to existential formulas. The technical basis of our results is a kind of small model property for parametric integer programming that generalizes the seminal results by von zur Gathen and Sieveking on small integer points in convex polytopes., Comment: Accepted for publication at ICALP 2024

Metal oxide (MO) semiconductors are widely used in electronic devices due to their high optical transmittance and promising electrical performance. This work describes the advancement toward an eco-friendly, streamlined method for preparing thin-film transistors (TFTs) via a pure water-solution blade-coating process with focus on a low thermal budget. Low temperature and rapid annealing of triple-coated indium oxide thin-film transistors (3C-TFTs) and indium oxide/zinc oxide/indium oxide thin-film transistors (IZI-TFTs) on a 300 nm SiO2 gate dielectric at 300 $^{\circ}$C for only 60 s yields devices with an average field effect mobility of 10.7 and 13.8 cm2/Vs, respectively. The devices show an excellent on/off ratio (>10^6), and a threshold voltage close to 0 V when measured in air. Flexible MO-TFTs on polyimide substrates with AlOx dielectrics fabricated by rapid annealing treatment can achieve a remarkable mobility of over 10 cm2/Vs at low operating voltage. When using a longer post-coating annealing period of 20 min, high-performance 3C-TFTs (over 18 cm2/Vs) and IZI-TFTs (over 38 cm2/Vs) using MO semiconductor layers annealed at 300 $^{\circ}$C are achieved.

Recently, deep learning (DL)-based methods have been proposed for the computational reduction of gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs) to mitigate adverse side effects while preserving diagnostic value. Currently, the two main challenges for these approaches are the accurate prediction of contrast enhancement and the synthesis of realistic images. In this work, we address both challenges by utilizing the contrast signal encoded in the subtraction images of pre-contrast and post-contrast image pairs. To avoid the synthesis of any noise or artifacts and solely focus on contrast signal extraction and enhancement from low-dose subtraction images, we train our DL model using noise-free standard-dose subtraction images as targets. As a result, our model predicts the contrast enhancement signal only; thereby enabling synthesization of images beyond the standard dose. Furthermore, we adapt the embedding idea of recent diffusion-based models to condition our model on physical parameters affecting the contrast enhancement behavior. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach on synthetic and real datasets using various scanners, field strengths, and contrast agents.

Timed automata are the formal model for real-time systems. Extensions with discrete probabilistic branching have been considered in the literature and successfully applied. Probabilistic timed automata (PTA) do require all branching probabilities and clock constraints to be constants. This report investigates PTA in which this constraint is relaxed: both branching probabilities and clock constraints can be parametric. We formally define this PTA variant and define its semantics by an uncountable parametric Markov Decision Process (pMDP). We show that reachability probabilities in parametric L/U-PTA can be reduced to considering PTA with only parametric branching probabilities. This enables the usage of existing techniques from the literature. Finally, we generalize the symbolic backward and digital clock semantics of PTA to the setting with parametric probabilities and constraints.

The soft X-ray instrument eROSITA on board the Spectrum-Roentgen-Gamma (SRG) observatory has successfully completed four of the eight planned all-sky surveys, detecting almost one million X-ray sources during the first survey (eRASS1). The catalog of this survey will be released as part of the first eROSITA data release (DR1). Based on X-ray aperture photometry, we provide flux upper limits for eRASS1 in several energy bands. We cover galactic longitudes between $180^{\circ}\lesssim l \lesssim 360^{\circ}$ (eROSITA-DE). These data are crucial for studying the X-ray properties of variable and transient objects, as well as non-detected sources in the eROSITA all-sky survey data. We performed aperture photometry on every pixel of the SRG/eROSITA standard pipeline data products for all available sky tiles in the single detection band ($0.2 - 2.3$ keV). Simultaneously, we performed the same analysis in the three-band detection at soft ($0.2-0.6$ keV), medium ($0.6-2.3$ keV), and hard ($2.3-5.0$ keV) energy bands. Based on the combination of products for the individual bands, we are also able to provide aperture photometry products and flux upper limits for the $0.2 - 5.0$ keV energy band. The upper limits were calculated based on a Bayesian approach that utilizes detected counts and background within the circular aperture. The final data products consist of tables with the aperture photometry products (detected counts, background counts, and exposure time), a close-neighbor flag, and the upper flux limit based on an absorbed power-law spectral model ($\Gamma=2.0, \; N_{\rm H}=3\times10^{20}$ cm$^{-2}$). The upper limits are calculated using the one-sided $3\sigma$ confidence interval (CL) of a normal distribution, representing CL = 99.87\%. Integration of solvothermal reaction products into complex thin-layer architectures is frequently achieved by combinations of layer transfer and subtractive lithography, whereas direct additive substrate patterning with solvothermal reaction products has remained challenging. We report reactive additive capillary stamping under solvothermal conditions as a parallel contact-lithographic access to patterns of solvothermal reaction products in thin-layer configurations. To this end, corresponding precursor inks are infiltrated into mechanically robust mesoporous aerogel stamps derived from double-network hydrogels (DNHGs). The stamp is then brought into contact with a substrate to be patterned under solvothermal reaction conditions inside an autoclave. The precursor ink forms liquid bridges between the topographic surface pattern of the stamp and the substrate. Evaporation-driven enrichment of the precursors in these liquid bridges along with their liquid-bridge-guided conversion into the solvothermal reaction products yields large-area submicron patterns of the solvothermal reaction products replicating the stamp topography. As example, we prepared thin hybrid films, which contained ordered monolayers of superparamagnetic submicron nickel ferrite dots prepared by solvothermal capillary stamping surrounded by nickel electrodeposited in a second, orthogonal substrate functionalization step. The submicron nickel ferrite dots acted as magnetic hardener halving the remanence of the ferromagnetic nickel layer. In this way, thin-layer electromechanical systems, transformers and positioning systems may be customized.

The wettability of surfaces determines their antifouling, antifogging, anti-icing, and self-cleaning properties as well as their usability for sensing, oil-water separation, water collection, and water purification. Solvent-free high-temperature capillary stamping of stimuli-responsive polymers yielding arrays of stimuli-responsive polymer microdots on differently modified substrates enables the flexible generation of switchable surfaces with different water contact angles (WCAs). Potential problems associated with the deposition of polymer solutions, such as the handling of volatile organic solvents, phase separation induced by solvent evaporation, and capillarity-driven flow processes, are circumvented. We used composite stamps with topographically patterned contact surfaces consisting of metallic nickel cores and porous MnO2 coatings taking up the stimuli-responsive polymers. The short transport paths from the MnO2 contact layers to the counterpart substrates enabled the stamping of polymer melts containing components impeding flow, such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs). Thus-obtained arrays of polymer-CNT hybrid microdots prevent problems associated with continuous coatings including delamination and crack propagation. Moreover, the range within which the properties of the stamped stimuli-responsive polymer microdots are switchable can be tuned by orthogonal substrate modification. As an example, we stamped hybrid microdots consisting of poly(2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl ferrocenecarboxylate) (PFcMA) and CNTs onto indium tin oxide (ITO) substrates. Coating the ITO substrates with a poly(ethylene oxide)-terminated silane shifted the WCAs obtained by switching the PFcMA between its oxidized and reduced states by nearly 50{\deg}.

Bio image analysis has recently become one keystone of biological research but biologists tend to get lost in a plethora of available software and the way to adjust available tools to their own image analysis problem. We present BIII, BioImage Informatic Index (www.biii.eu), the result of the first large community effort to bridge the communities of algorithm and software developers, bioimage analysts and biologists, under the form of a web-based knowledge database crowdsourced by these communities. Software tools (> 1300), image databases for benchmarking (>20) and training materials (>70) for bio image analysis are referenced and curated following standards constructed by the community and then reaching a broader audience. Software tools are organized as full protocol of analysis (workflow), specific brick (component) to construct a workflow, or software platform or library (collection). They are described using Edam Bio Imaging, which is iteratively defined using this website. The development of biophysical models for clinical applications is rapidly advancing in the research community, thanks to their predictive nature and their ability to assist the interpretation of clinical data. However, high-resolution and accurate multi-physics computational models are computationally expensive and their personalisation involves fine calibration of a large number of parameters, which may be space-dependent, challenging their clinical translation. In this work, we propose a new approach which relies on the combination of physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) with three-dimensional soft tissue nonlinear biomechanical models, capable of reconstructing displacement fields and estimating heterogeneous patient-specific biophysical properties. The proposed learning algorithm encodes information from a limited amount of displacement and, in some cases, strain data, that can be routinely acquired in the clinical setting, and combines it with the physics of the problem, represented by a mathematical model based on partial differential equations, to regularise the problem and improve its convergence properties. Several benchmarks are presented to show the accuracy and robustness of the proposed method and its great potential to enable the robust and effective identification of patient-specific, heterogeneous physical properties, s.a. tissue stiffness properties. In particular, we demonstrate the capability of the PINN to detect the presence, location and severity of scar tissue, which is beneficial to develop personalised simulation models for disease diagnosis, especially for cardiac applications., Comment: Accepted for publication in Computational Mechanics

For many years, various experiments have attempted to shed light on the nature of dark matter (DM). This work investigates the possibility of using CaWO4 crystals for the direct search of spin-dependent DM interactions using the isotope 17O with a nuclear spin of 5/2. Due to the low natural abundance of 0.038%, an enrichment of the CaWO4 crystals with 17O is developed during the crystal production process at the Technical University of Munich. Three CaWO4 crystals were enriched, and their 17O content was measured by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy at the University of Leipzig.
