* Context.--Physicians face a high rate of burnout, especially during the residency training period when trainees often experience a rapid increase in professional responsibilities and expectations. Effective burnout prevention programs for resident physicians are needed to address this significant issue. Objective.--To examine the content, format, and effectiveness of resident burnout interventions published in the last 10 years. Design.--The literature search was conducted on the MEDLINE database with the following keywords: internship, residency, health promotion, wellness, occupational stress, burnout, program evaluation, and program. Only studies published in English between 2010 and 2020 were included. Exclusion criteria were studies on interventions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, studies on duty hour restrictions, and studies without assessment of resident well-being postintervention. Results.--Thirty studies were included, with 2 randomized controlled trials, 3 case-control studies, 20 pretest and posttest studies, and 5 case reports. Of the 23 studies that used a validated well-being assessment tool, 10 reported improvements postintervention. These effective burnout interventions were longitudinal and included wellness training (7 of 10), physical activities (4 of 10), healthy dietary habits (2 of 10), social activities (1 of 10), formal mentorship programs (1 of 10), and health checkups (1 of 10). Combinations of burnout interventions, low numbers of program participants with high dropout rates, lack of a control group, and lack of standardized well-being assessment are the limitations identified. Conclusions.--Longitudinal wellness training and other interventions appear effective in reducing resident burnout. This study compares student learning in employment-based internships with learning in nonemployment-based internships. Data from foundation and advanced employment-based and nonemployment-based students (N=180) indicate statistically significant gains during the academic year. Pre- and post-evaluative data from field instructors (N=22) also reflect statistical significance. This counters concerns about the value of employment-based internships. There was a trend for employment-based foundation MSW students to perceive themselves initially as more knowledgeable than nonemployment-based students. Corporate philanthropy describes the action when a corporation voluntarily donates a portion of its resources to a societal cause. Although the thought of philanthropy invokes feelings of altruism, there are many objectives for corporate giving beyond altruism. Meeting strategic corporate objectives can be an important if not primary goal of philanthropy. The purpose of this paper is to share insights from a strategic corporate philanthropic initiative aimed at increasing the pool of frontline customer contact employees who are performance-ready, while supporting curriculum development and infrastructure improvement for selected university business programs, creating a win-win situation for the company and the universities. This paper will address three objectives. First, we will examine the evolution of strategic philanthropy from the traditional view to its current position as a strategic option. Second, we will address the recruitment of front line talent needs (customer facing jobs in sales, customer service, and marketing) based on the profit maximization model of strategic philanthropy. This research examines the factors which lead to the effective socialization of interns on their overseas assignments and the positive outcomes which can result from expatriate intern socialization programs. The sample consists of 138 graduate business school students on six-month overseas internships in 23 countries. The results suggest that both the design of the internship job itself (particularly job autonomy and amount of interaction with others) and the 'people processing strategies' used to integrate new interns (particularly sequenced training programs and coaching by experienced coworkers) are strongly associated with the effective socialization of overseas interns. In addition, the results suggest that the effective socialization of expatriate interns to their tasks is positively related to satisfaction with the internship, the amount of learning on the internship, the likelihood of receiving and accepting a job offer from the internship company, and the perceived career instrumentality of the internship.
