In order to aovid peri-implantitis，Ti-ZnO nanocomposite coatings were prepared on the surface of pure Ti slices by reactive magnetron sputtering.The effects of nano-ZnO content on the microstructure and antibacterial performance of the coatings were studied by means of changing the splicing ratio of Ti target and ZnO target.The microstructure，roughness and wettability of the samples were characterized and measured by scanning electron microscopy (SEM)，X-ray diffraction (XRD)，atomic force microscopy (AFM) and JC2000C1 interfacial tension tester.In addition，the release of Zn ions from the coatings was measured by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS)，the cytotoxicity of the coatings was tested by CCK-8 method，and the antibacterial performance of the coatings was evaluated by plate colony counting method.Results showed that when the ratio of Ti target to ZnO target was 95 ∶5，the nano-ZnO content in Ti-ZnO coating was the highest，the roughness and contact angle with liquid phase of the coating reached the maximum values of 0.547 nm and 101.25° respectively，the coating had no cytotoxicity and met the standards for biosafety materials，and the antibacterial performance of the coating was the best with an antibacterial rate up to 91.05%.

Abstract Background An outbreak of Plasmodium malariae infection among forest goers in Sanya City of Hainan Island, China was reported in 2015. In response to this outbreak, an innovative three-layer strategy (TLS) targeted forest goers was adapted based on the 1-3-7 approach. Main text Key elements of TLS are: (i) The village with five malaria cases and adjacent villages were set as the first layer. All residents including forest goers were taken as the high-risk population (HRP). Active case detection (ACD) by blood smear microscopy and PCR was selected as the primary measure, and passive case detection (PCD) as complementary measure. One case was identified under TLS implementation. (ii) The township with cases (Gaofeng Town) and the nearby towns were chosen as the second layer. Only forest goers were screened by ACD, while PCD as a routine screening method. 7831 blood smears collected by ACD and PCD and tested with negative results. (iii) The city with cases (Sanya City) and others 12 counties/county-level cities were selected as the third layer. Malaria cases were monitored passively. A total of 77,555 blood slides were screened by PCD with zero positive sample. For each layer, the malaria vector mosquitoes were monitored using light traps, cattle-baited/human-bait traps. Anopheles minimus (dominant species), An. sinensis and An. dirus were captured. Vector control measures mainly include insecticide residual spraying and long-lasting insecticide nets. The capacity of clinicians, public health practitioners and laboratory technicians has been improved through training. During 2016‒2018, TLS and chemoprophylaxis were implemented in the same areas. In the first layer, all residents were monitored by ACD, and malaria chemoprophylaxis were distributed, 89.5% of forest goers were using chemoprophylaxis against malaria. The blood smears (3126 by ACD plus 1516 by PCD) were with zero positive results. Chemoprophylaxis and ACD were offered to forest goers once a year, and PCD in residents as a complementary measure in the second and third layer, 77.8% and 95.1% of forest goers received chemoprophylaxis. In each layer, vector surveillance and control of malaria and trainings for medical staff were still in place. Conclusions TLS was effective in blocking the outbreak by P. malariae among forest goers in Hainan in malaria elimination stage. However, whether it could prevent the malaria resurgence in the post-elimination phase needs to be further assessed. Graphical Abstract

To understand the diffusion and distribution of sulfuryl fluoride in wheat,rice and soybean piles,experiments were carried out in 6 warehouses to compare and analyze the diffusion speed,uniformity,and attenuation speed of fumigant gas in different grain piles.Data were collected in the process of fumigation.Experiment results show that the diffusion rate of sulfuryl fluoride gas in different grains is quickest in the soybean pile,followed by the rice pile and wheat pile:the soybean pile can achieve uniform gas in its warehouse as soon as 8 hours after fumigation.The average gas concentration half-life is longest in the soybean pile,shortest in the rice pile with the wheat pile stands in the middle:the fumigation concentration of 5.0～12.7 g/m3 can safeguard an insect-free environment for 6 months.

Aluminum alloy anodizing coatings were prepared for LY12CZ in the boric-sulfuric acid solution (45g/L sulfuric acid,8g/L boric acid) with the addition of 10%,20%,30% (volume fraction)silica sol,with the gradient voltage of 15V. The current and voltage transients of the anodizing process were collected by data collection instrument. The surface morphologies,microstructure and chemical composition of the anodic coatings were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The corrosion resistance was examined by neutral salt spray,electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) test and titrating test. The results show that the different concentration of silica sol addition can influence the forming and dissolution of anodizing coatings,improve the compactness smoothness and corrosion resistance during the anodizing process in the boric-sulfuric acid solution.

As the basic unit of life, cells are compartmentalized microreactors with molecularly crowded microenvironments. The quest to understand the cell origin inspires the design of synthetic analogs to mimic their functionality and structural complexity. In this work, we integrate membraneless coacervate microdroplets, a prototype of artificial organelles, into a proteinosome to build hierarchical protocells that may serve as a more realistic model of cellular organization. The protocell subcompartments can sense extracellular signals, take actions in response to these stimuli, and adapt their physicochemical behaviors. The tiered protocells are also capable of enriching biomolecular reactants within the confined organelles, thereby accelerating enzymatic reactions. The ability of signal processing inside protocells allows us to design the Boolean logic gates (NOR and NAND) using biochemical inputs. Our results highlight possible exploration of protocell-community signaling and render a flexible synthetic platform to study complex metabolic reaction networks and embodied chemical computation.

Design of flexible porous materials where the diffusion of guest molecules is regulated by the dynamics of contracted pore aperture is challenging. Here, a flexible porous self‐assembly consisting of 1D channels with dynamic bottleneck gates is reported. The dynamic pendant naphthimidazolylmethyl moieties at the channel necks provide kinetic gate function, that enables unusual adsorption for light hydrocarbons. The adsorption for CO2 is mainly dominated by thermodynamics with the uptakes decreasing with increasing temperature, whereas the adsorptions for larger hydrocarbons are controlled by both thermodynamics and kinetics resulting in an uptake maximum at a temperature threshold. Such an unusual adsorption enables temperature‐dependent separation of CO2 from the corresponding hydrocarbons. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Florida Bay, a large and shallow estuary, serves as a vital habitat for a diverse range of marine species and holds significant environmental, commercial, and recreational value. The Florida Bay ecosystem is under extensive stress due to decades of increased nutrient loads. Based on the Environmental Fluid Dynamics Code (EFDC), a hydrodynamic model was developed in this study. The model was calibrated with a comprehensive dataset, including measurements over 7 years from 34 tidal stations, 42 current stations, and 14 temperature and salinity stations. Key findings include the following: (1) the bay exhibits a shift in the tidal regime, transitioning from macro-tidal in the western region to micro-tidal in the central and eastern/northeast regions; (2) local winds and the subtidal variations from the coastal ocean are the primary drivers for the hydrodynamic processes in the eastern and central regions; (3) salinity changes in the bay are primarily controlled by three processes: the net supply of freshwater, the processes that drive mixing within the estuary (e.g., wind, topography, currents), and the exchange of salinity with the coastal ocean. This hydrodynamic model is essential for providing a comprehensive tool to address environmental challenges and sustain the bay's ecosystem health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Previous studies documented that heparin can inhibit the invasion and metastasis of tumors, but its role on outcomes in patients with solid malignancy complicated sepsis remains unclear. Methods: A retrospective cohort study was conducted in critically ill patients with solid malignancy associated sepsis from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care (MIMIC)-IV database. The primary endpoint was intensive care unit (ICU) mortality, secondary outcomes were thrombosis and hospital mortality. Propensity score matching (PSM), marginal structural Cox model (MSCM), cox proportional hazards model, stratification analysis and E-value were used to account for baseline differences, time-varying confounding and unmeasured variables. Results: A total of 1,512 patients with solid malignancy complicated sepsis were enrolled, of which 683 in the heparin group with intensive care unit mortality, thrombosis rate and hospital mortality were 9.7%, 5.4%, 16.1%, and 829 in the nonheparin group with ICU mortality, thrombosis rate and hospital mortality were 14.6%, 12.5%, 22.6%. Similar results were observed on outcomes for patients with PSM (ICU mortality hazard ratio [HR] 0.61, 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.41-0.92), thrombosis rate (HR 0.42, 95% confidence interval 0.26-0.68); hospital mortality HR 0.70, 95% CI 0.50-0.99). marginal structural Cox model further reinforced the efficacy of heparin in reducing ICU mortality (HR 0.48, 95% CI 0.34-0.68). Logistic regression and Cox regression model showed heparin use also markedly reduced thrombosis (HR 0.42; 95% CI 0.26-0.68; p < 0.001) and hospital mortality (HR 0.70; 95% CI 0.50-0.99; p = 0.043). High-fat diet (HFD) can cause obesity, inducing dysregulation of the visceral adipose tissue (VAT). This study aimed to explore potential biological pathways and hub genes involved in obese VAT, and for that, bioinformatic analysis of multiple datasets was performed. The expression profiles (GSE30247, GSE167311 and GSE79434) were downloaded from Gene Expression Omnibus. Overlapping differentially expressed genes (ODEGs) between normal diet and HFD groups in GSE30247 and GSE167311 were selected to run protein–protein interaction network, GO and KEGG analysis. The hub genes in ODEGs were screened by Cytoscape software and further verified in GSE79434 and obese mouse model. A total of 747 ODEGs (599 up-regulated and 148 down-regulated) were screened, and the GO and KEGG analysis showed that the up-regulated ODEGs were significantly enriched in inflammatory response and extracellular matrix receptor interaction pathways. On the other hand, the down-regulated ODEGs were involved in metabolic pathways; however, there were no significant KEGG pathways. Furthermore, six hub genes, Mki67, Rac2, Itgb2, Emr1, Tyrobp and Csf1r were acquired. These pathways and genes were verified in GSE79434 and VAT of obese mice. This study revealed that HFD induced VAT expansion, inflammation and fibrosis, and the hub genes could be used as therapeutic biomarkers in obesity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
