Background Coronary heart disease (CHD) is a cardiovascular disease with high mortality. At present, percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is considered as the main effective treatment for CHD due to less trauma, shorter course of treatment, and better curative effect. However, PCI alone is not a permanent cure, so cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is needed for a supplement. Nowadays, the evaluation of the nursing-sensitive quality of CR after PCI focuses on the outcomes of patients, lacks a complete evaluation indicator system, and is prone to problems such as nursing management imbalance. Objective A scientific, sensitive, comprehensive and practical nursing-sensitive quality indicator system based on the structure-process-outcome model was constructed to provide a reference for evaluating nursing sensitive quality of CR after PCI. Methods Firstly, through literature analysis and semi-structured interview, the indicator system was collected, screened and determined. Then, the framework of the indicator system was established, and the draft of nursing-sensitive quality indicator system of CR after PCI was formed. Subsequently, the nursing-sensitive quality indicator system of CR after PCI was initially established using Delphi method. Finally, the specific weight was determined by analytic hierarchy process (AHP), and the nursing-sensitive quality indicator system of CR after PCI was established and perfected. Results Two rounds of expert consultations were separately given 15 questionnaires, and all these questionnaires were returned, with a questionnaire response rate of 100%. Such result indicated that experts were highly motivated. Besides, the authoritative coefficients for two rounds of expert consultations were 0.865 and 0.888, and the coordination coefficients were 0.491 and 0.522, respectively. Hence, the experts’ authority and coordination were high and the results were reliable. After the second round of expert consultation, the nursing-sensitive quality indicator system of CR after PCI was established, eventually. This system consisted of 3 first-level indicators (structural indicator, process indicator and outcome indicator), 11 s-level indicators and 29 third-level indicators. Conclusion A relatively complete and reliable nursing-sensitive quality indicator system of CR after PCI has been established in this study. The microstructures and mechanical properties of laser penetration welded joints of overlap steel-on-aluminum were investigated. The structure of the intermetallic compound layer without interlayer consists of FeAl and FeAl3 phases. After the Ni-foil was added, the thickness of the intermetallic compound layer and the content of the brittle and hard Al-Fe phase decreased significantly, and some new phases of Al0.9Ni1.1 and FeNi were formed. It was found that the Ni interlayer enhanced the tensile property of the joint by about 40% and decreased the microhardness of the intermetallic compounds, which is attributed to the improvement of the toughness of the welded joint made by the Ni interlayer. It is an effective way to improve the mechanical properties of the laser welding joint by adding a nickel interlayer to improve the metallurgical reaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Phononic crystals are a kind of artificial acoustic metamaterial whose mass density and elastic modulus are periodically arranged. The precise and efficient design of phononic crystals with specific bandgap characteristics has attracted increasing attention in past decades. In this paper, an improved adaptive genetic algorithm is proposed for the reverse customization of two-dimensional phononic crystals designed to maximize the relative bandwidth at low frequencies. The energy band dispersion relation and transmission loss of the optimal structure are calculated by the finite-element method, and the effective wave-attenuation effect in the bandgap range is verified. The flammability and gas barrier properties are essential for package material. Herein, a highly-oriented self-assembly nanocoating composed of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and montmorillonite (MMT) was prepared for endowing polyethylene terephthalate (PET) films with excellent flame retardancy and gas barrier properties. The specific regular nanosheet structure of the PVA/MMT composite nanocoating was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and the vertical burning test (VBT) suggested that the thermal stability and flame-retardancy of the coated PET films were considerably improved with more pick-up of the resulting nanocoating. When reaching 650 °C, there was still 22.6% char residual left for coated PET film, while only 6% char residual left for pristine PET film. During the vertical burning test, the flame did not spread through the whole PET film with the protection of PVA/MMT nanocoating, and no afterflame was observed. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) is consistent with vertical burning test, proving that the thermal stability and flame retardancy of coated PET films were considerably enhanced with the increment of PVA/MMT. Thanks to the multi-layer structure, PVA/MMT nanocoating could effectively improve the gas barrier properties of PET films, and the oxygen vapor transmittance rate and water vapor transmittance rate of PET films were more than four hundred times lower and 30% lower than those of neat PET film. Our work demonstrates that bi-functional flame retardant and gas barrier materials could be gained via constructing inorganic/organic highly-oriented self-assembly nanocoating, which is promising in the area of packaging. Notched beam specimens were loaded by the three-point bending test device, and the effects of different volume contents and combinations of steel fibers on the tensile properties of hybrid steel fiber–reinforced self-compacting concrete (HSFRSCC) were studied. The failure law and strain field distribution of the specimens were studied by digital image correlation (DIC) technology. Moreover, the curves between the load and crack mouth opening displacement (CMOD) of 18 groups of hybrid steel fiber–reinforced concrete specimens were obtained, and the stress–strain curves of 18 groups of specimens were derived from the load–CMOD curves. The results show that both single and hybrid steel fibers can improve the crack deformation resistance and tensile properties of concrete, but hybrid steel fibers have a more significant improvement effect. Only when the content of steel fiber is more than 0.6% can it have a more obvious postpeak descending section, and hybrid steel fiber has higher postpeak deformation capacity and flexural toughness. The fundamental reason why concrete with hybrid steel fibers has better tensile properties is that micro and macro steel fibers cooperate with each other to resist cracks, improving the toughness of concrete after cracking. Finally, the mechanism of different size and volume content of steel fiber was analyzed from the micro level, which can be used as a reference for the engineering design of HSFRSCC in the future. Carbon dots (CDs) can be widely used in the field of sensing because of its good water solubility, low toxicity, high fluorescence stability and excellent biocompatibility. It has become a popular trend to prepare high-value, inexpensive, renewable and environmentally friendly CDs sensors from biomass resources. This article reviewed the research progress of biomass-derived CDs as chemical, physical and biological sensors in recent years and studied their preparation processes and sensing abilities. Furthermore, the prospects and challenges of biomass-CDs sensors were discussed. Handwritten Text Recognition has achieved an impressive performance in public benchmarks. However, due to the high inter- and intra-class variability between handwriting styles, such recognizers need to be trained using huge volumes of manually labeled training data. To alleviate this labor-consuming problem, synthetic data produced with TrueType fonts has been often used in the training loop to gain volume and augment the handwriting style variability. However, there is a significant style bias between synthetic and real data which hinders the improvement of recognition performance. To deal with such limitations, we propose a generative method for handwritten text-line images, which is conditioned on both visual appearance and textual content. Our method is able to produce long text-line samples with diverse handwriting styles. Once properly trained, our method can also be adapted to new target data by only accessing unlabeled text-line images to mimic handwritten styles and produce images with any textual content. Extensive experiments have been done on making use of the generated samples to boost Handwritten Text Recognition performance. The Pancharatnamâ€"Berry phase induced by the winding topology of polarization around a vortex singularity at bound states in the continuum (BIC) provides a unique approach to optical vortex (OV) generation. The BIC-based OV generators have the potential to outperform their counterparts that rely on spatial variations in terms of design feasibility, fabrication complexity, and robustness. However, given the fact that this class of OV generators originates from the topological property of the photonic bands, their responses are generally fixed and cannot be dynamically altered, which limits their applications to photonic systems. Here, we numerically demonstrate that a silicon photonic crystal slab can be used to realize optically switchable OV generation by simultaneously exploiting the vortex topology in momentum space in conjunction with silicon’s nonlinear dynamics. Picosecond switching of OV beams at near-infrared wavelengths are observed. The demonstrated nontrivial topological nature of the active generators can significantly expand the application of BIC toward ultrafast vortex beam generation, high-capacity optical communication, and mode-division multiplexing. • Aspergillus and G- bacteria are the predominant strains in FN children. • mNGS is far superior to TPD in detecting fungal infections. • mNGS is conducive to targeted therapy and improved prognosis of FN children. To investigate the application value of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) in children with hematological diseases presenting with Febrile Neutropenia (FN). We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 49 hematological children with FN, and compared the results of mNGS with those of traditional pathogen detection (TPD) and the prognoses of mNGS positive group and negative group. A total of 77 pathogenic strains were identified, of which 70 strains were detected by mNGS, 19 strains by TPD, and Aspergillus and G- bacterias were the predominant strains in FN children who developed bloodstream infections. 42 cases were in the mNGS-positive group, of which 17 were simple infections, 25 were mixed infections, and 7 were in the negative group; the TPD-positive group contained 19 cases, all of which were simple infections. The detection rate of total and mixed pathogens was higher than that of TPD, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The mNGS positive group was detected earlier than the negative group, and with lower mortality and drug-related adverse events (DRAE), and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). For FN children with hematological diseases, early mNGS can effectively improve the efficacy of pathogen detection, and precise treatment after clarifying the pathogens can reduce mortality and avoid antibiotic abuse. Hygroscopic salt composite hydrogels (HSCHs) offer a promising solution for combating global water scarcity by harvesting atmospheric water. The current and potential outputs are restricted by inadequate water collection and excessive cross-link density. Herein, a novel zwitterionic nanocomposite conductive hydrogel (ZNCH) is introduced to resist polyelectrolyte changes by leveraging the salt-in effect of cationic and anionic functional groups. The poly-[2-(methacryloxy)ethyl]dimethyl-(3-sulfopropyl)ammonium hydroxide-based ZNCH endows the HSCH with an enhanced swelling property together with an improved water storage capacity. The adsorption capacity of water reaches 3.0 g g−1 after 10 h of operation at 25 °C and 90% RH. More importantly, ZNCH replaces H bonds with Li bonds under the Hofmeister effect, resulting in the generation of a substantial number of free H+ ions. These endow the ZNCH with highly efficient power generation performance, associating with a short-circuit current of up to 945 μA, a current density of 945 μA cm−1, and an open-circuit voltage of 0.802 V. Rapid and high‐resolution histological imaging with minimal tissue preparation has long been a challenging and yet captivating medical pursuit. Here, the authors propose a promising and transformative histological imaging method, termed computational high‐throughput autofluorescence microscopy by pattern illumination (CHAMP). With the assistance of computational microscopy, CHAMP enables high‐throughput and label‐free imaging of thick and unprocessed tissues with large surface irregularity at an acquisition speed of 10 mm2/10 s with 1.1‐µm lateral resolution. Moreover, the CHAMP image can be transformed into a virtually stained histological image (Deep‐CHAMP) through unsupervised learning within 15 s, where significant cellular features are quantitatively extracted with high accuracy. The versatility of CHAMP is experimentally demonstrated using mouse brain/kidney and human lung tissues prepared with various clinical protocols, which enables a rapid and accurate intraoperative/postoperative pathological examination without tissue processing or staining, demonstrating its great potential as an assistive imaging platform for surgeons and pathologists to provide optimal adjuvant treatment. Introduction: Safety is a critical factor in promoting sustainable urban non-motorized travel modes like bicycles. Helmets have shown to be effective in reducing injury severity in bicycle crashes, however, their effects on bicyclists' behaviors still requires deeper understanding, especially amid the emerging trend of using shared bicycles. Risk compensation effects suggest that bicyclists may offset perceived gains in safety from wearing a helmet by increasing risk-taking behaviors. A better understanding of these compensation effects can be useful in assessing various bicycle safety related programs. Method: Using a sample of 131 bicyclists from the San Francisco Bay area, this research studies how bicyclists respond with respect to risk-taking behaviors under various urban-street conditions, as a function of helmet use. Study participants were each shown 12 videos, shot in Berkeley, California, from the perspective of a bicyclist riding behind another bicyclist. A fractional factorial experiment design was used to systematically vary contextual attributes (e.g., speed, bike lane facilities, on-street parking, passing vehicles) across the videos. After each video, participants were asked to indicate if they would overtake the bicyclist in the video. With the help of data adaptive estimation techniques, targeted maximum likelihood estimation (TMLE) was applied to estimate the average risk difference between helmeted users and non-users, controlling for self-selection effects. Individual-based nonparametric bootstrap was performed to assess the uncertainty associated with the estimator. Results: Our findings suggest, on average, individuals more likely to wear a helmet are 15.6% more likely to undertake a risky overtaking maneuver. Practical Applications: This study doesn't try to oppose mandatory helmet laws, but rather serves as a cautionary warning that road safety programs may need to consider strategies in which unintended impact of bicycle helmet use can be mitigated. Shear horizontal (SH) waves are commonly generated by periodic permanent magnet (PPM) electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMATs) in metallic media. Conventional PPM EMATs generate ultrasonic waves, which simultaneously propagate both forward and backward. This can be an undesirable characteristic, since the backward wave can be eventually reflected, reaching the receiver transducer where it can mix with the signal of interest. This limitation can be overcome using two side-shifted PPM arrays and racetracks coils to generate SH waves in a single direction. That design relies on the EMAT wavefront diffraction to produce constructive and destructive interference, but produces unwanted backward traveling sidelobes. Here, we present a different design, which uses a conventional PPM array and a dual linear-coil array. The concept was numerically simulated, the main design parameters were assessed and the unidirectional EMAT was experimentally evaluated on an aluminum plate, generating the SH0-guided wave mode nominally in a single direction. The amplitude ratio of the generated waves at the enhanced to the weakened side is above 20 dB. Since the wavefronts from the two sources are perfectly aligned, no obvious backward sidelobes are present in the acoustic field, which can significantly reduce the probability of false alarm of an EMAT detection system. Lymphoma is a heterogeneous disease with varying clinical manifestations and outcomes. Many subtypes of lymphoma, such as Burkitt′s lymphoma and diffuse large B cell lymphoma, are highly aggressive with dismal prognosis even after conventional chemotherapy and radiotherapy. As such, exploring specific biomarkers for lymphoma is of high clinical significance. Herein, a potential marker, CD38, is investigated for differentiating lymphoma. A CD38‐targeting monoclonal antibody (mAb, daratumumab) is then radiolabeled with Zr‐89 and Lu‐177 for theranostic applications. As the diagnostic component, the Zr‐89‐labeled mAb is highly specific in delineating CD38‐positive lymphoma via positron emission tomography (PET) imaging, while the Lu‐177‐labeled mAb serves well as the therapeutic component to suppress tumor growth after a one‐time administration. These results strongly suggest that CD38 is a lymphoma‐specific marker and prove that 89Zr/177Lu‐labeled daratumumab facilitates immunoPET imaging and radioimmunotherapy of lymphoma in preclinical models. Reducing fuel consumption is a unifying goal across the aviation industry. One fuel-saving opportunity for airlines is reducing contingency fuel loading by dispatchers. Many airlines' flight planning systems (FPSs) provide recommended contingency fuel for dispatchers in the form of statistical contingency fuel (SCF). However, because of limitations of the current SCF estimation procedure, the application of SCF is limited. In this study, we propose to use quantile regression–based machine learning methods to account for fuel burn uncertainties and estimate more reliable SCF values. Utilizing a large fuel burn data set from a major U.S.-based airline, we find that the proposed quantile regression method outperforms the airline's FPS. The benefit of applying the improved SCF models is estimated to be in the range $19 million–$65 million in fuel expense savings as well as 132 million–451 million kilograms of carbon dioxide emission reductions per year, with the lower savings being realized even while maintaining the current, extremely low risk of tapping the reserve fuel. The proposed models can also be used to predict benefits from reduced fuel loading enabled by increasing system predictability, for example, with improved air traffic management. Periodic permanent magnet (PPM) array electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMATs) can efficiently generate and receive shear horizontal (SH) ultrasonic waves. Conventional PPM EMATs typically generate waves which simultaneously propagate both forward and backward. This can complicate the received signals and make it difficult to locate the position of scatterers. Unidirectional generation of ultrasounds can be achieved if two ultrasonic sources are separated by a predefined distance and are excited with the proper delay. Relying on this principle, EMATs have been previously designed aiming to generate other modes of ultrasonic waves. The main challenge when extending this conception to an SH-wave EMAT is how to restrict each coil to its specific magnet array. We present the concept of a unidirectional SH EMAT consisting of two racetrack coils and two interlaced PPM arrays, that are slightly shifted sideways, in such a way that the generated wavefronts still properly interfere. The design was fabricated and experimentally evaluated in an aluminum plate generating the SH0 guided wave mode. In this article, a class of wideband transmit arrays (TAs), composed of cascaded anisotropic impedance surfaces (AISs), for circularly polarized (CP) multibeam generation from a single feed horn are reported. The dispersionless phase compensation is achieved by the Berry phase (BP) via imposing a spatially dependent rotation angle on the TA unit cells. A homogenized model for the BPTA unit cell is proposed and utilized for obtaining a wideband response by tailoring the dispersive properties of the AIS layers. Two modeling methods, an analytical vectorial field analysis and a full-wave strategy incorporating the homogenized model, were employed to efficiently evaluate the performance of the BPTAs. In order to validate the proposed unit cell and the modeling methodologies, a Q-band single-beam BPTA is demonstrated, which achieves a peak gain of 30.2 dBi and a 1 dB bandwidth of 11.1% within which the axial ratio is smaller than 2 dB. Furthermore, by employing the intersection approach for pattern synthesis, several Q-band BPTAs supporting multiple concurrent symmetric/asymmetric CP pencil beams and circular-shaped flat-top beams are designed. A BPTA prototype for producing quad CP pencil beams with unequal gain values was fabricated and characterized, yielding good performance with an overall operational bandwidth of about 11%. The proposed BPTAs are promising candidates for point-to-multipoint communication and point-to-multiregional coverage in wideband millimeter-wave communications for wireless and satellite applications. A nonconforming mixed-element (tetrahedral/hexahedral) discontinuous Galerkin time-domain (DGTD) method with a perfectly matched layer (PML) absorber is proposed to analyze the electromagnetic scattering from doubly periodic structures. An efficient auxiliary differential equation (ADE)-based PML implementation is presented with transformed field variables introduced by the time-domain periodic boundary conditions (PBCs). The proposed PML implementation performs well in absorbing the waves with high-order Floquet modes. Additionally, a mixed-order DGTD method is introduced to improve the proposed PML implementation’s long-term stability and reduce the total computational cost. Based on the mixed tetrahedral and hexahedral grids, the nonconforming DGTD method can provide accurate field distribution near complex scattering geometries while simultaneously reducing the degrees of freedom (DoF) in the rest of the computational domain, including the open space and PML regions. Abstract Ambient fine particulate matter (PM 2.5) has long been the primary air pollutant with alarming public health risk in China. PM 2.5 pollution control in China still mainly concerned concentration declining. The qualification and identification of PM 2.5 -attributable health loss is crucial for China's air quality improvement and pollution prevention. This study assessed the annual health loss and economic impact attributed to PM 2.5 exposure at a city level in China from 2015 to 2017. The health benefits from achieving specific PM 2.5 concentration control targets were estimated for 2020. The economic value of health loss in China was 3205.05, 3223.51, and 3344.80 billion Yuan in 2015, 2016, and 2017, representing 4.34%, 4.07%, and 3.85% of the gross domestic product of China. The health loss value in Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei (BTH) and surrounding areas and the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) urban agglomeration in 2017 was 731.93 and 520.27 billion Yuan, accounting for 21.88% and 15.56%, respectively, of the total economic value of all assessed cities. The economic value of health loss in provincial cities was high. From 2015 to 2017, high health loss in BTH and surrounding areas showed a diffusion trend toward cities in Henan, Shanxi, and Shaanxi Provinces. High health loss in the YRD urban agglomeration transferred to cities located in the middle and upper reaches of the Yangtze River. If PM 2.5 concentration control targets can be achieved by 2020, premature mortality attributed to PM 2.5 exposure will fall by 91,860 cases, representing 11.20% of which in 2017. This study, for the first time, highlighted the spatial distribution and temporal variation characteristics of health loss in Chinese cities based on ground-monitoring PM 2.5 concentration data and annual real-time population data. Distributional feature and time-trend analysis would provide a measurable assessment of health loss in Chinese cities to policymakers for effective allocating their efforts on air quality improvement. With the rapid development of micro-nano electronics, thermally conductive materials with remarkable through-plane thermal conductivity (κ ⊥) and great flexibility are greatly urgent to effective thermal management. The fillers with high thermal conductivity (TC) are commonly assembled to achieve this target. However, the imperfect contact between the joint fillers will lead to high thermal resistance (R), hindering thermal transport. Herein, we fabricated thermal interface materials (TIMs) with ultra-high κ ⊥ (up to 168.4 W m−1 K−1) and adjustable flexibility by the combination of highly thermally conductive carbon fiber bundles (CF) and polymer encapsulated phase change materials (PCMs). The alignment of consecutive CF guarantees the continuity of thermal paths, greatly facilitating thermal transport. While the slantly slicing technique and softening effect of PCMs beyond phase transition temperature lead to an attenuated compression stress (1.6 MPa@10% strain with a CF loading of 50 wt%). What's more, the latent heat absorbed by PCMs is also conducive to thermal management. Thus, during a CPU temperature-control experiment, the application of as-prepared TIMs manifests a temperature decline of 33.9 °C of CPU. This work opens a new perspective to fabricating TIMs with ultrahigh κ ⊥ and low compression stress (σ) by the combination of thermally induced flexible matrix and the slantly slicing technique of aligned CFs. • Atypical clinical features make it hard to identify VL in HLH in non-epidemic area. • VL is difficult to diagnose when traditional tests are ineffective, while mNGS is. • mNGS can be used as a detection method of HLH in children caused by rare pathogens. Visceral leishmaniasis-related hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (VL-HLH) is a secondary hemophagocytic syndrome, which can be life-threatening, caused by leishmania and transmitted by infected sandflies. Rapid and accurate identification of leishmania is crucial for clinical strategies. Here, we report an infantile infection in a non-epidemic area of China. The infant was a 9.5-month-old girl with fever, pancytopenia and hepatosplenomegaly, which meet the HLH-2004 standard, and the negative gene results exclude congenital HLH. However, chemotherapy is ineffective and is accompanied by severe infection. Fortunately, she is diagnosed with VL-HLH (visceral leishmaniasis-related hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis), as leishmania is detected by next-generation meta-genome sequencing (mNGS) and quickly relieved after treatment with libosomal amphotericin B (L-AMB). mNGS can detect leishmania in pediatric HLH, and should be performed as a new detection for VL-HLH, particularly for infants, who may not respond to HLH-2004 regimen. Background: Insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (IGF-1R) is a well-studied oncogenic factor that promotes cell proliferation and energy metabolism and is overexpressed in numerous cancers including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Aerobic glycolysis is a hallmark of cancer, and drugs targeting its regulators, including IGF-1R, are being developed. However, the mechanisms of IGF-1R inhibition and the physiological significance of the IGF-1R inhibitors in cancer cells are unclear. Materials and methods: Cell proliferation was evaluated by cell counting Kit-8 and colony formation assay. Western blot and real-time PCR were accordingly used to detect the relevant proteins, miRNA and gene expression. Luciferase reporter assays were used to illustrate the interaction between miR-342-3p and IGF-1R. The effect of miR-342-3p on glycolysis was determined by glucose uptake, ATP concentration, lactate generation, extracellular acidification rate and oxygen consumption rate assays. In vivo, subcutaneous tumor formation assay and PET were performed in nude mice. Results: In this study, we demonstrate that by directly targeting the 3'-UTR (3'-untranslated regions) of IGF-1R, microRNA-342-3p (miR-342-3p) suppresses IGF-1R-mediated PI3K/AKT/GLUT1 signaling pathway both in vitro and in vivo. Through suppression of IGF-1R, miR-342-3p dampens glycolysis by decreasing glucose uptake, lactate generation, ATP production, and extracellular acidification rate (ECAR), and increasing oxygen consumption rate (OCR) in hepatoma cells. Importantly, glycolysis regulated by miR-342-3p is critical for its regulating HCC growth both in vitro and in vivo. Conclusion: Our findings provide clues regarding the role of miR-342-3p as a tumor suppressor in liver cancer mainly through the inhibition of IGF-1R. Flexural ultrasonic transducers are principally used as proximity sensors and for industrial metrology. Their operation relies on a piezoelectric ceramic to generate a flexing of a metallic membrane, which delivers the ultrasound signal. The performance of flexural ultrasonic transducers has been largely limited to excitation through a short voltage burst signal at a designated mechanical resonance frequency. However, a steady-state amplitude response is not generated instantaneously in a flexural ultrasonic transducer from a drive excitation signal, and differences in the drive characteristics between transmitting and receiving transducers can affect the measured response. This research investigates the dynamic performance of flexural ultrasonic transducers using acoustic microphone measurements and laser Doppler vibrometry, supported by a detailed mechanical analog model, in a process which has not before been applied to the flexural ultrasonic transducer. With the rapid development of the electronics industry, there is a growing demand for packaging materials that possess both high thermal conductivity (TC) and low electrical conductivity (EC). However, traditional insulating fillers such as boron nitride, aluminum nitride, and alumina (Al2O3) have relatively low intrinsic TC. When graphene, which exhibits both superhigh TC and EC, is used as a filler to fill epoxy resin, the TC of blends can be much higher than that of blends containing more traditional fillers. However, the high EC of graphene limits its application in cases where electrical insulation is required. To address this challenge, a method for coating graphene sheets with an in situ grown Al2O3 layer has been proposed for the fabrication of epoxy-based composites with both high TC and low EC. In the presence of a cationic surfactant, a dense Al2O3 layer with a network structure can be formed on the surface of graphene sheets. When the total content of Al2O3 and graphene mixed filler reached 30 wt%, the TC of the epoxy composite reached 0.97 W m−1 K−1, while the EC remained above 1011 Ω·cm. Finite element simulations accurately predicted TC and EC values in accordance with experimental results. A new chloride borate, Ba 1.31 Sr 3.69 (BO 3 ) 3 Cl, was obtained when exploring potential phosphor materials. It belongs to orthorhombic system, Pnma space group, with cell parameters of a = 6.965(1) Å, b = 16.546(3) Å, c = 9.557(1) Å and Z = 4. Ba 5- x Sr x (BO 3 ) 3 Cl ( x = 0, 0.5, …to 5) was synthesized and the cell volumes of the solid solutions were obtained by Rietveld refinement. Detailed structure description of Ba 1.31 Sr 3.69 (BO 3 ) 3 Cl was conducted and the structure comparison between Ba 1.31 Sr 3.69 (BO 3 ) 3 Cl and M 5 (BO 3 )X (M = Ba or Sr, X = Cl or F) was illustrated. In Ba 1.31 Sr 3.69 (BO 3 ) 3 Cl, there are hexagonal tunnels extending along a -axis, which is the main feature of apatite family compounds. The density functional theory calculation suggested that in Ba 1.31 Sr 3.69 (BO 3 ) 3 Cl space group Pnma is more energy favourable than C 222 1 . DSC-TG showed that Ba 1.31 Sr 3.69 (BO 3 ) 3 Cl is stable up to 950 °C and Raman and Infrared spectroscopy demonstrate the existence of planar (BO 3 ) 3- in the structure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With the implementation of the western development strategy, large areas in western China are experiencing rapid industrialization and urbanization phases. Simultaneously, increasing energy consumption linked to CO 2 emissions is becoming a serious problem. The stochastic impacts by regression on population, affluence, and technology model and the random parameters model were developed to assess and quantify the strength of the relationship between CO 2 emissions that are attributed to energy consumption and their major drivers (i.e., population, economy, and technology). The Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, which is a typical region in western China with low energy efficiency and rapid economic growth, was selected as an example. This study determined CO 2 emissions attributed to energy consumption from 1991 to 2011, and assessed the effects of the major drivers of CO 2 emissions at the county level. The following results were obtained. (1) The CO 2 emissions of Ningxia increased rapidly throughout the study period. (2) Increasing gross domestic product (GDP) per capita, urban employment, and the contribution to GDP of secondary industries would promote CO 2 emissions. By contrast, increasing the growth of the per capita annual disposable income of rural households, the contribution to GDP of tertiary industries, and population density would restrain CO 2 emissions. (3) The county-level heterognerity was found to be significant which suggests adopting a uniform policy might not be optimal. Finally, the study method, effects of CO 2 emission factors, and policy suggestions could also be applied to other provinces and autonomous regions in western China because of the similar characteristics of these areas such as vast lands, rich resources, and low development level. A superhydrophobic coating composed of epoxy on the bottom and siloxane-modified silica on the top was prepared by employing the scraping and spraying methods. The superhydrophobic coating possesses excellent mechanical properties, is superhydrophobic (water contact angle, WCA = 164.3°), and has low adhesion. The long-term corrosion resistance of the epoxy coating and the superhydrophobic coating in a 3.5 % NaCl solution and hydrogen sulfide environment was assessed using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), polarization curve analysis, immersion testing, and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Test results indicate that the superhydrophobic coating has excellent anti-corrosion capability in an H 2 S environment for 50 days and in a 3.5 % NaCl solution for 60 days. This is of great significance for developing the potential applications of superhydrophobic coatings in H 2 S environments. Phase change materials (PCMs) are potential candidates in passive thermal regulation and energy storage fields due to their high latent heat capacity around phase transition temperature. However, the leakage problem and low thermal conductivity are two obstructive factors for the extended application of PCMs. Herein, a series of paraffin@silicon dioxide microcapsules (Pa@SiO 2)/graphene sheets (GS)/silicone rubber (SR) phase change composites (PCCs) were prepared. It is found that the inorganic SiO 2 shell is conducive to enhancing the thermal conductivity of PCCs and the double encapsulation by the SiO 2 shell and SR skeleton can restrict the leakage of liquid Pa during phase transition. With a Pa@SiO 2 content of 70 wt%, the PCCs have a high latent heat of 126.1 J/g and enhanced thermal conductivity of 0.37 W m−1 K−1, which is 131.25% higher compared to that of pure SR. In addition, the introduction of graphene sheets further boosts the thermal conductivity of PCCs to 2.69 W m−1 K−1. The obtained PCCs lead to a surprising temperature decline of nearly 35 °C of a commercial lithium-ion battery during a high discharge rate (7.4 C). As a symbolic ceramic oxide, the reaction of SiO 2 as an insulating layer with the Fe–Si–Al/SiO 2 soft magnetic composites (SMCs), substrate during heat treatment, as well as the resulting microscopic phase transition of the core–shell structure and its influence on the magnetic properties, are worth investigating. In this study, based on the successful synthesis of Fe–Si–Al based SMCs using fluidised chemical vapour deposition combined with an electric hot–press sintering method, the evolution of the insulating layers was investigated under different heat–treatment temperatures and closely linked to the magnetic performance of the composites. During heat treatment at high temperatures, the formation of high–resistivity oxides (Al 2 O 3) after heat treatment results in a low inter–particle eddy current loss, while excessive temperature causes disintegration of the core–shell heterostructure. This leads to a discernible increase in eddy current and hysteresis losses and a decrease in permeability and resistivity. The SMCs had an Ms of 115.8 emu/g, a resistivity of 6.86 mΩ cm, and a hysteresis loss of 56.3 kW/m3 at 10 mT and 100 kHz when heat-treated at 1373 K for 120 min, which was the best among all samples. This research provides a novel approach to building SMCs with inorganic ceramic insulating layers and a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between the heat–treatment process parameters, microstructure, and magnetic properties which is highly significant for industrial production. The giant organs and enhanced concentrations of secondary metabolites realized by autopolyploidy are attractive for breeding the respective medicinal and agricultural plants and studying the genetic mechanisms. The traditional medicinal plant Chinese woad (Isatis indigotica Fort., 2n = 2x = 14) is now still largely used for the diseases caused by bacteria and viruses in China. In this study, its autopolyploids (3x, 4x) were produced and characterized together with the 2x donor for their phenotype and transcriptomic alterations by using high-throughput RNA sequencing. With the increase of genome dosage, the giantism in cells and organs was obvious and the photosynthetic rate was higher. The 4x plants showed predominantly the normal meiotic chromosome pairing (bivalents and quadrivalents) and equal segregation and then produced the majority of 4x progeny. The total 70136 All-unigenes were de novo assembled, and 56,482 (80.53%) unigenes were annotated based on BLASTx searches of the public databases. From pair-wise comparisons between transcriptomic data of 2x, 3x, 4x plants, 1856 (2.65%)(2x vs 4x), 693(0.98%)(2x vs 3x), 1045(1.48%)(3x vs 4x) unigenes were detected to differentially expressed genes (DEGs), including both up- and down-regulated ones. These DEGs were mainly involved in cell growth (synthesis of expansin and pectin), cell wall organization, secondary metabolite biosynthesis, response to stress and photosynthetic pathways. The up-regulation of some DEGs for metabolic pathways of functional compounds in the induced autotetraploids substantiates the promising new type of this medicinal plant with the increased biomass and targeted metabolites. A non-Darcy flow with moving boundary conditions in a low-permeability reservoir was solved using the homotopy analysis method (HAM), which was converted into a fixed-boundary mathematical model via similarity transformation. Approximate analytical solutions based on the HAM are guaranteed to be more accurate than exact analytical solutions, with relative errors between 0.0089% and 2.64%. When λ = 0, the pressure drop of the Darcy seepage model could be instantaneously transmitted to infinity. When λ > 0, the pressure drop curve of the non-Darcy seepage model exhibited the characteristics of tight support, which was clearly different from the Darcy seepage model's formation pressure distribution curve. According to the results of the HAM, a moving boundary is more influenced by threshold pressure gradients with a longer time. When the threshold pressure gradients were smaller, the moving boundaries move more quickly and are more sensitive to external influences. One-dimensional, low-permeability porous media with a non-Darcy flow with moving boundary conditions can be reduced to a Darcy seepage model if the threshold pressure gradient values tend to zero. Melamine modified carbon dots (Me-CDs) was synthesized by hydrothermal method and used as effective corrosion inhibitor for Q235 carbon steel in 3.5 wt% sodium chloride (NaCl) solution. The microstructure and surface properties of Me-CDs were characterized using XRD, FTIR, XPS and TEM. The corrosion inhibition behavior and mechanism of Me-CDs for carbon steel were investigated using weight loss and electrochemical methods, in combination with some surface characterizations (including SEM, AFM and contact angle tester). Results showed that Me-CDs as mixed-type adsorbent inhibitor could effectively prevent carbon steel from corrosion, and the maximum corrosion inhibition efficiency can reach 92.36% at 200 mg/L. The absorption of Me-CDs conformed to Temkin adsorption model, involving both chemisorption and physisorption. Based on the results of characterization analysis, the chemisorption from multiple adsorption centers, physisorption by blocking and barrier effect, and the formation of hydrophobic film on the surface of carbon steel was proposed to clarify the corrosion inhibition mechanism of Me-CDs. Here, we report a novel ultraviolet (UV) NLO tourmaline crystal with chemical composition NaAl 9 (BO 3) 3 Si 6 O 21 OH for the first time by combining first-principles analysis and experimental measurements. It exhibits a short UV absorption edge, considerable second harmonic generation effect and moderate birefringence, thereby facilitating its phase-matching coherent beam output in the range from visible to UV regions. In this paper, we first propose a very interesting and practical problem, pattern matching in a distributed mobile environment. Pattern matching is a well-known problem and extensive research has been conducted for performing effective and efficient search. However, previous proposed approaches assume that data are centrally stored, which is not the case in a mobile environment (e.g., mobile phone networks), where one person's pattern could be separately stored in a number of different stations, and such a local pattern is incomplete compared with the global pattern. A simple solution to pattern matching over a mobile environment is to collect all the data distributed in base stations to a data center and conduct pattern matching at the data center afterwards. Clearly, such a simple solution will raise huge amount of communication traffic, which could cause the communication bottleneck brought by the limited wireless bandwidth to be even worse. Therefore, a communication efficient and search effective solution is necessary. In our work, we present a novel solution which is based on our well-designed weighted bloom filter (WBF), called, D istributed Incomplete pattern matching ( DI-matching), to find target patterns over a distributed mobile environment. Specifically, to save communication cost and ensure pattern matching in distributed incomplete patterns, we use WBF to encode a query pattern and disseminate the encoded data to each base station. Each base station conducts a local pattern search according to the received WBF. Only qualified IDs and corresponding weights in each base station are sent to the data center for aggregation and verification. Through non-trivial theoretical analysis and extensive empirical experiments on a real city-scale mobile networks data set, we demonstrate the effectiveness and efficiency of our proposed solutions. A new ternary phosphidopolysilicate (IV), KSi2P3, has been synthesized by high temperature solid state reaction. The compound crystallizes in a new structure type in the monoclinic space group C2/c with a=10.1327(5)Å, b=10.1382(5)Å, c=21.1181(10)Å, β=96.88(0)°, and Z=8. In the structure, all SiP4 tetrahedra are connected with each other by corner-sharing P atoms to form layers, which are stacked along c direction and separated by K+ cations. The two-dimensional structure of KSi2P3 contrasts with those of the two known members in the ternary A/Si/P (A=alkali metal) system, namely Na5SiP3 (zero-dimensional) and K2SiP2 (one-dimensional), which contains less amount of Si. Highlights: The vertically aligned structures of anisotropic fillers (using 2D boron nitride (BN) platelets as a proof-of-concept) in composites are constructed assisted by the expansion flow. BN platelets in composites are aligned in a curved shape that includes vertical alignment in the central area and horizontal alignment close to strip surfaces. The shape of expansion channels affects the vertical orientation order and the through-plane thermal conductivity of composites.Orientation control of anisotropic one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) materials in solutions is of great importance in many fields ranging from structural materials design, the thermal management, to energy storage. Achieving fine control of vertical alignment of anisotropic fillers (such as graphene, boron nitride (BN), and carbon fiber) remains challenging. This work presents a universal and scalable method for constructing vertically aligned structures of anisotropic fillers in composites assisted by the expansion flow (using 2D BN platelets as a proof-of-concept). BN platelets in the silicone gel strip are oriented in a curved shape that includes vertical alignment in the central area and horizontal alignment close to strip surfaces. Due to the vertical orientation of BN in the central area of strips, a through-plane thermal conductivity as high as 5.65 W m−1 K−1 was obtained, which can be further improved to 6.54 W m−1 K−1 by combining BN and pitch-based carbon fibers. The expansion-flow-assisted alignment can be extended to the manufacture of a variety of polymer composites filled with 1D and 2D materials, which can find wide applications in batteries, electronics, and energy storage devices. Intelligent unmanned mining is a key process in coal mine production, which has direct impact on the production safety, coal output, economic benefits and social benefits of coal mine enterprises. With the rapid development and popularization of 5G+ intelligent mines and coal mine intelligent equipment in China, the intelligentization of intelligent unmanned mining has become an important research topic. Especially with the promulgation of some Chinese policies and regulations, intelligent unmanned mining technology has become one of the key technologies of coal mine production. To understand the connotation, status quo and development trends of intelligent unmanned mining, this paper takes the relationship between key technologies and engineering application of intelligent unmanned mining in China as the perspective. It is proposed that the intelligent unmanned mining technology is in the whole process of working face mining. A research structure of unmanned follow-up operation and safe patrol is changing to the mode of intelligent adaptive mining, followed by the basic concepts and characteristics of intelligent unmanned mining. Relevant researches that maybe beneficial to the proposed research content are reviewed in four layers, which include basic theory, key technology, mining mode, and overall design system theory and technology. Low-cost and scalable fabrication processes are needed to prepare efficient superhydrophobic materials, particularly for oil/water separation and metal protection against severe oil spills and metal corrosion. Here, an effective oil/water separation mesh with long-lasting acid/base durability and corrosive resistance is reported. In this work, the mesh was fabricated by simply spraying nano soil particles cross-linked with melamine resin and impregnating them with polyethylene (PE) solution. The multi-layered morphology obtained from the spraying and impregnating process which provides the unique wetting properties for the stainless steel (SS) mesh, such as superhydrophobicity and low water adhesion. Also the low chemical activity of alkyl sp3 carbon-hydrogen bonds provides acid/base resistance for the manufactured material. By utilizing these unique properties, not only can gravity-driven efficient oil/corrosive fluid separation be achieved, but the fabricated superhydrophobic stainless steel (SSS) mesh retains high separation efficiency (> 99%) and superhydrophobicity (water contact angle, WCA > 150°) in reuse process of wastewater in treated oil. More importantly, this excellent protection can effectively reduce the corrosion rate of the mesh by more than two orders of magnitude (SS mesh i corr 1.82 × 10−8 A·cm−2; SSS mesh i corr 9.84 × 10−11 A·cm−2) which providing a long-lasting protection even after 16 days of immersion in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution. All in all, the easy operation, acid/base resistance, high separation efficiency, and corrosion inhibition efficiency of the SSS mesh give them great potential for oil/water separation and metal protection applications. Abstract: The predictive capabilities of the density functional theory with various exchange–correlation functionals on the energy band gaps and optical properties in ultraviolet nonlinear optical (UV NLO) crystals are systematically investigated. We find that the energy band gaps of these crystals can be accurately predicted by the non-local hybrid functionals and sX-LDA functionals, but their calculated optical properties are not consistent with the experimental results compared to the usually adopted LDA or GGA functionals with the scissors corrections. Accordingly, we propose that a precise and effective strategy to study the optical properties in the UV NLO crystals without any experimental parameter should be the combination of different functional calculations. Good thermal stability and high quantum efficiency (QE) are desirable properties for phosphors applied in white light-emitting diodes field. In this work, a Ce3+ doped phosphor Ba 2 LuAl 3 Si 2 O 12 :Ce3+ (BaLuAS:Ce3+) was designed and successfully obtained. Structure analysis of Ba 2 LuAl 3 Si 2 O 12 indicates that it adopts garnet structure and crystallizes in space group I a ¯3 d (No.230) of the cubic system. The wavelength-dependent photoluminescence emission property and the mechanism of concentration quenching effect of BaLuAS:xCe3+ were investigated systematically. The PL emission exhibits high thermal quenching resistance with the quenching temperature (T 50%) reaching up to 673 K (400 °C). By measuring thermoluminescence, the thermal ionization process was discussed. To compensate for the lack of orange-red emission region and avoid using multiple phosphors, Mn2+ ions were introduced into the host. The remarkable enhancements of the orange band are attributed to an efficient nonradiative energy transfer from Ce3+ to Mn2+ ions, which has been testified by the photoluminescence spectra and fluorescence decay dynamics. The w-LED fabrication results suggest that the broad emission of BaLuAS:Ce3+, Mn2+ is suitable for applying in high-quality warm w-LED. Targeted garnet phosphor Ce3+ doped Ba 2 LuAl 3 Si 2 O 12 was achieved via the hetero-valence substitution of Lu3+-Al3+ by Ba2+-Si4+ pairs starting from Lu 3 Al 5 O 12 : Ce3+ and the red component in the emission spectrum has been enhanced through Ce3+-Mn2+ energy transfer. Background: Corneal neovascularization (CoNV) threatens vision by disrupting corneal avascularity, however, current treatments, including pharmacotherapy and surgery, are hindered by limitations in efficacy and adverse effects. Minocycline, known for its anti-inflammatory properties, could suppress CoNV but faces challenges in effective delivery due to the cornea's unique structure. Therefore, in this study a novel drug delivery system using minocycline-loaded nano-hydroxyapatite/poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (nHAP/PLGA) nanoparticles was developed to improve treatment outcomes for CoNV. Results: Ultra-small nHAP was synthesized using high gravity technology, then encapsulated in PLGA by a double emulsion method to form nHAP/PLGA microspheres, attenuating the acidic by-products of PLGA degradation. The MINO@PLGA nanocomplex, featuring sustained release and permeation properties, demonstrated an efficient delivery system for minocycline that significantly inhibited the CoNV area in an alkali-burn model without exhibiting apparent cytotoxicity. On day 14, the in vivo microscope examination and ex vivo CD31 staining corroborated the inhibition of neovascularization, with the significantly smaller CoNV area (29.40% ± 6.55%) in the MINO@PLGA Tid group (three times daily) than that of the control group (86.81% ± 15.71%), the MINO group (72.42% ± 30.15%), and the PLGA group (86.87% ± 14.94%) (p < 0.05). Fluorescein sodium staining show MINO@PLGA treatments, administered once daily (Qd) and three times daily (Tid) demonstrated rapid corneal epithelial healing while the Alkali injury group and the DEX group showed longer healing times (p < 0.05). Additionally, compared to the control group, treatments with dexamethasone, MINO, and MINO@PLGA were associated with an increased expression of TGF-β as evidenced by immunofluorescence, while the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1β and TNF-α demonstrated a significant decrease following alkali burn. Safety evaluations, including assessments of renal and hepatic biomarkers, along with H&E staining of major organs, revealed no significant cytotoxicity of the MINO@PLGA nanocomplex in vivo. Conclusions: The novel MINO@PLGA nanocomplex, comprising minocycline-loaded nHAP/PLGA microspheres, has shown a substantial capacity for preventing CoNV. This study confirms the complex's ability to downregulate inflammatory pathways, significantly reducing CoNV with minimal cytotoxicity and high biosafety in vivo. Fibrosis is a progressive pathological process participating in the progression of many diseases and can ultimately result in organ malfunction and failure. Around 45% of deaths in the United States are believed to be attributable to fibrotic disorders, and there are no favorable treatment regiments available to meet the need of blocking fibrogenesis, reversing established fibrosis, and curing diseases, especially in the terminal stage. Therefore, early detection and continuous monitoring provide valuable benefits for patients. Among all the advanced techniques developed in recent years for fibrosis evaluation, molecular imaging stands out with its distinct advantage of visualizing biochemical processes and patterns of target localization at the molecular and cellular level. In this review, we summarize the current state of the art in molecular imaging of benign fibrosis diseases. We will first introduce molecular pathways underlying fibrosis processes and potential targets. We will then elaborate on molecular probes that have been developed thus far, expounding on their mechanisms and current states of translational advancement. Water dissolved in nominally anhydrous minerals (NAMs) can be transported to deep regions of the Earth through subducting slabs, thereby significantly influencing the physicochemical properties of deep-Earth materials and impacting dynamic processes in the deep Earth. Stishovite, a prominent mineral present in subducting slabs, remains stable at mantle pressures of 9–50 GPa and can incorporate various amounts of water (H + , OH - , and H 2 O) in its crystal structure. Consequently, stishovite can play a crucial role in transporting water into the deep Earth through subducting slabs. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the research process concerning water (hydrogen) solubility in stishovite. The key factors that govern water solubility in stishovite are summarized as temperature, pressure, water fugacity, and aluminum content. Combined with published results on the dependence of water solubility on the aforementioned parameters, this paper proposes a new equation to describe the solubility of water in Al-bearing stishovite. Calculation results based on this equation suggest that stishovite may effectively accommodate water released from processes such as hydrous mineral breakdown, which could ultimately contribute to the presence of a water-rich transition zone. Thermal interface materials (TIMs) with high through-plane thermal conductivity (TC), softness, and electrical insulation are highly desired for modern electronics. However, it is challenging to simultaneously achieve these properties. Boron nitride (BN)-based polymer composites are promising candidates for advanced TIMs owing to the high TC and great electrical insulation of BN. However, previous works perform either low TC (< 8 W m−1 K−1) or high stiffness. The ultimate properties of BN-based TIMs remain largely unclear and unrealized. Here, we fabricate BN film-filled silicone rubber composites by a facile stacking-cutting method, which maintains the high degree of orientation the BN film, so that a record-high though-plane TC of 19.1 W m−1 K−1 and a low compressive modulus of 5.42 MPa are achieved. Accurate average flow velocity determination is essential for flow measurement in many industries, including automotive, chemical, and oil and gas. The ultrasonic transit-time method is common for average flow velocity measurement, but current limitations restrict measurement accuracy, including fluid dynamic effects from unavoidable phenomena such as turbulence, swirls or vortices, and systematic flow meter errors in calibration or configuration. A new spatial averaging method is proposed, based on flexural ultrasonic array transducer technology, to improve measurement accuracy and reduce the uncertainty of the measurement results. A novel two-dimensional flexural ultrasonic array transducer is developed to validate this measurement method, comprising eight individual elements, each forming distinct paths to a single ultrasonic transducer. These paths are distributed in two chordal planes, symmetric and adjacent to a diametral plane. It is demonstrated that the root-mean-square deviation of the average flow velocity, computed using the spatial averaging method with the array transducer is 2.94%, which is lower compared to that of the individual paths ranging from 3.65% to 8.87% with an average of 6.90%. This is advantageous for improving the accuracy and reducing the uncertainty of classical single-path ultrasonic flow meters, and also for conventional multi-path ultrasonic flow meters through the measurement via each flow plane with reduced uncertainty. The flexural ultrasonic transducer comprises a piezoelectric ceramic disc bonded to a membrane. The vibrations of the piezoelectric ceramic disc induce flexural modes in the membrane, producing ultrasound waves. The transducer is principally utilized for proximity or flow measurement, designed for operation at atmospheric pressure conditions. However, there is rapidly growing industrial demand for the flexural ultrasonic transducer in applications including water metering or in petrochemical plants where the pressure levels of the gas or liquid environment can approach 100 bar. In this study, characterization methods including electrical impedance analysis and pitch-catch ultrasound measurement are employed to demonstrate the dynamic performance of flexural ultrasonic transducers in air at elevated pressures approaching 100 bar. Measurement principles are discussed, in addition to modifications to the transducer design for ensuring resilience at increasing air pressure levels. The results highlight the importance of controlling the parameters of the measurement environment and show that although the conventional design of flexural ultrasonic transducer can exhibit functionality towards 100 bar, its dynamic performance is unsuitable for accurate ultrasound measurement.
