The field of metal–organic framework based mixed matrix membranes (M4s) is critically reviewed, with special emphasis on their application in CO2 capture during energy generation., The field of metal–organic framework based mixed matrix membranes (M4s) is critically reviewed, with special emphasis on their application in CO2 capture during energy generation. After introducing the most relevant parameters affecting membrane performance, we define targets in terms of selectivity and productivity based on existing literature on process design for pre- and post-combustion CO2 capture. Subsequently, the state of the art in M4s is reviewed against these targets. Because final application of these membranes will only be possible if thin separation layers can be produced, the latest advances in the manufacture of M4 hollow fibers are discussed. Finally, the recent efforts in understanding the separation performance of these complex composite materials and future research directions are outlined.

Sorbentlerin hazırlanmasında CuO aktif faz, mezo-gözenekli MCM-41 ve SBA-15 ise taşıyıcı malzemeler olarak kullanılmıştır. Çalışmada, CuO/MCM-41, CuO/SBA-15 ve CuO-SiO2 olmak üzere başlıca üç tip sorbent malzemesi hazırlanmıştır. CuO/MCM-41, ve CuO/SBA-15 tipi sorbentler, yaş emdirme (wet impregnation), CuO-SiO2 tipi sorbentler ise ilk defa bu çalışmada kullanılan yeni bir yöntem kullanılarak hazırlanmıştır. Bu yeni yöntemde nano-CuO tanecikleri tek adımlı bir sentez sürecinde silika yapıyla sokulmuştur. Sorbent numuneleri, kükürt tutma–yenilenme sürecinden önce ve sonra X-ışınları kırınımı, azot adsorpsiyonu, yaş yöntemler, TGA, H2-kimyasal adsorpsiyonu ve TEM gibi yöntemler kullanılarak karakterize edilmişlerdir. Hazırlanan sorbentlerin sıcak gazlardan H2S giderme özellikleri, laboratuar ölçeğindeki sabit yatak tipi bir reaktör kullanılarak incelenmiştir. Deneysel sonuçlar, CuO-SiO2 tipi sorbentlerin kapasite kullanım oranlarının diğerlerinden daha yüksek olduğunu ortaya koymuştur. Buna karşın, kapasite değişimi açısından ise yaş emdirme yöntemiyle hazırlanan sorbentler biraz daha üstündür. Kükürt tutma-yenilenme sürecinin, hazırlanan tüm sorbentlerin yapısında değişimlere neden olmaktadır. Sonuç olarak, mezo-gözenekli malzemelerin sıcak gazlardan kükürt giderme sorbentlerinde taşıyıcı olarak kullanılabileceği görülmüştür. Çalışmalar sırasında, sentez aşamasında mezo-gözenekli SBA -15’in yapısına CuO sokarak sorbent numuneleri hazırlamak esasına dayanan yeni bir yöntem daha denenmiş ancak istenen oranda CuO yüklenememiştir. Bu nedenle bu yöntemle sorbent hazırlama çalışmalarına son verilmiştir. Ancak, bu yöntemin, katalizörlerde olduğu gibi, çok daha düşük miktarlarda Cu yüklemenin yeterli olduğu uygulamalar için kullanılmasının mümkün olabileceği düşünülmektedir., In this study, sorbents were prepared by using copper and mesoporous silica materials for the H2S removal from hot gases. CuO was used as the active component and mesoporous MCM-41 and SBA-15 were used as the carrier materials. Three types of sorbent were synthesized in the study. They were classified as CuO/MCM-41, CuO/SBA-15 and CuO-SiO2 type sorbents. CuO/MCM-41 and CuO/SBA-15 type sorbents were prepared by wet impregnation method. On the other hand, CuO-SiO2 type sorbents were prepared by a new method which was developed in this study. In this method, nano sized CuO particles were doped into the silica material structure through a single step synthesizing process The fresh and sulfided sorbent samples were characterized by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), nitrogen adsorption, chemical analysis, thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), H2-chemisorption and transmission electro microscopic (TEM) imaging methods. The H2S removal characteristics of the sorbent samples from hot gases were investigated by using a laboratory scale fixed bed reactor. Experimental results indicated that CuO-SiO2 type sorbents have higher capacity usage ratios than the others. On the other hand, the breakthrough point sulfur capacities of sorbents prepared by wet impregnation, appeared to be relatively less prone to the sulfidation-regeneration cycles. Sulfidation-regeneration processes caused changes in the structure of the sorbents. It could be claimed, that mesoporous materials are convenient to be used as carrier materials for hot gas desulfurization sorbents. In the study, a second new method, based on modifying the synthesis process of SBA-15, was developed and tested to synthesize sorbent by introducing CuO in to the structure of SBA-15. The method did not allow to introduce CuO enough to prepare a material that can be used for the removal of H2S from gases and thus was discarded. The test results, however indicated that, the method can be used to prepare materials with low CuO percentage, such as catalysts., Doktora, PhD

ÇAN LİNYİTİ- DOLOMİT İKİLİ SİSTEMİNİ İÇEREN AKIŞKAN YATAKTA KARIŞMA ÖZELLİKLERİ ÖZET Kömür yakılan, habbeli akışkan yatak yakma sistemlerinde karşılaşılan en önemli sorunlardan birisi aglomerasyon veya sinterleşme olayıdır. Aglomerasyon, büyük ölçüde kömürün özelliklerinden kaynaklanmasına karşın, yataktaki karışma etkinliği ve sıcaklık dağılımı tarafından da etkilenmektedir. Bu çalışmada, kömür-dolomit karışımını içeren akışkan yataklarda karışma etkinliği çeşitli parametrelere bağlı olarak incelenmiştir. Çalışmada kullanılan kömür TKİ Çan bölgesi işletmesinden sağlanmıştır. Deneysel çalışmalar 12 cm çapında soğuk bir akışkan yatak kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Akışkan yatak 1 cm yüksekliğindeki pleksiglas halkalardan oluşmaktadır. Çalışmada, akışkanlaştırma hızı, kömür tanecik boyutu, yataktaki kömür derişimi ve yatak yüksekliği/yatak çapı oranı (H/D) parametre olarak seçilmiştir. Akışkanlaşma hızının değerleri 1.55 m/s, 2.0 m/s, 2.33 m/s ve 2.55 m/s, kömür boyutu +1.20-1.9 mm, +2.0-2.7 mm, +2.7-3.3 mm ve 3.3-4.00 mm, H/D oranı ise 0.66, 1.00, 1.33 ve 1.67 olarak seçilmiştir. Deneylerde, %12 ve %6 olmak üzere, iki farklı kömür derişimi ile çalışılmıştır. Yatak malzemesi olarak +0.5-1 mm boyutundaki dolomit kullanılmıştır. Karışma kalitesi, karışma indeksi ile tanımlanmıştır. Karışma indeksi, boyutsuz yatak yüksekliğinin (z) bir fonksiyonu olarak irdelenmiştir, z, yatağın herhangi bir noktasındaki yüksekliğin, statik yatak yüksekliğine oranıdır. Deneysel sonuçlar, kömür tanecik boyutunun küçük olduğu durumlarda, dağıtıcı elekten itibaren yukarıya doğru çıktıkça, kömür derişimin arttığım göstermiştir. Akışkan yatağın önemli bir bölümünü oluşturan z = 0.3-0.8 aralığında oldukça iyi bir karışma gözlenmiştir. Bu bölgede, karışma indeksi mükemmel karışmayı gösteren 1 değerinden ±0.1 oranında sapma göstermiştir. Bu bölgenin dışında kalan, en alttaki(z = 0.0-0.3) ve en üstteki (z = 0.8-1.0) tabakalarda karışma kalitesi daha düşük kalmıştır. Burada karışma indeksi 1 'den ±0.3 kadar sapma göstermiştir. Tanecik boyutu arttıkça, dağıtıcı eleğin hemen üstündeki sığ bölge ile yatak yüzeyine yakın dar bölge dışında, iyi bir karışma gerçekleşmektedir. +2.7-3.3 mm Mik kömür kullanılan akışkan yatakta, eksenel yönde diğer fraksiyonlara kıyasla daha iyi bir dağılım elde edilmiştir. En kaba fraksiyon olan 3.3-4.0 mm Mik kömür fraksiyonunu kullanıldığı yatakta eksenel yöndeki dağılım oldukça düzensiz görünmektedir. Kömür tanecik boyutunun büyümesi genel olarak karışmayı olumsuz yönde etkilemektedir. Kömür tanecik boyutu büyüdükçe H/D oranının karışma üzerindeki etkisi azalmaktadır. Akışkanlaşma hızındaki artış, genelde, kömür-dolomit ikilisinin karışmasını olumlu yönde etkilemektedir, özellikle kaba kömür tanecikleri söz konusu olduğunda bu durum daha net bir şekilde kendisini göstermektedir. Kömür derişiminin, kömür-dolomit ikili sisteminin karışma etkinliği üzerinde önemli bir etkisi olmaktadır. Kömür derişimi düşük olan akışkan yatakta özellikle kaba kömür tanecikleri için daha iyi bir karışma etkinliği gözlenmektedir. Bununla birlikte, H/D oranının artması karışma etkinliğini olumsuz yönde etkilemektedir. Kömür tanecik boyutu aralığının artması genel olarak yüksek H/D değerlerinde çalışıldığında, karışmayı kötü yönde etkilemektedir. xvı THE INVESTIGATION OF MIXING OF ÇAN LIGNITE-DOLOMITE BINARY SYSTEM IN A FLUIDIZED BED SUMMARY One of the crucial problems facing bubbling fluidized bed coal combusters is agglomeration or sintering. Although it is known that agglomeration phenomenon basically originates from coal characteristics, it is also affected by the mixing quality and temperature distribution in the bed. In this study, the mixing quality of the coal-dolomite binary system in a fluidized bed is investigated as a function of various parameters. Coal was provided from Çanakkale-Çan coal mining site of Turkish National Coal Board (MTA). Experimental studies were carried out by using a plexiglass cold fluidized bed of 12 cm i.d. It was consisted of rings that are 1 cm in height. The fluidization velocity, the coal particle size, the coal concentration and the bed aspect ratio (H/D) were studied as the experimental parameters. The values of the parameters were as follows; fluidization velocity; 1.55 m/s. 2.0 m/s, 2.33 m/s and 2.55 m/s. the coal particle size; + 1.2-1.9 mm, +2.0-2.7 mm, +2.7-3.3 mm and 3.3-4.0 mm, the bed aspect ratio (H/D); 0.66, 1.00, 1.33 and 1.67. Experiments were carried out with coal concentrations of 6% and 12%. +0.5-1.0 mm dolomite was used as bed material. The mixing index was used to quantify the quality of the mixing of the binary system. Mixing index was plotted as a function of dimensionless bed height (z) which is the ratio of height at any point to the static bed height. Experimental results showed that, in the case of binary mixture containing fine coal fractions, coal concentration increases with increasing vertical distance from distributor plate. In the major part of fluidized bed, characterised by dimensionless height (z = 0.3-0.8), fairly good mixing was observed with mixing index ±0.1 deviates from 1. However, in bottom layer (z = 0.0-0.3) and top layer (z = 0.8-1.0) ofthe bed. mixing is relatively poor. In these layers, the local mixing index deviated from I up to ±0.3. showing segregation. The best mixing quality was observed for +2.7-3.3 mm coal fraction while the binary system containing 3.3-4.0 mm coal fraction had the poorest mixing performance. In general, the mixing quality becomes worse as the coal particle size increases. On the other hands, the effect of the bed aspect ratio (H/D) to mixing of the binary system diminishes as the coal particle size increases. Increase in fluidazition velocity, in general, improves the mixing characteristics of coal-dolomite binary system. The positive effect of fluidization velocity on the mixing quality is clearer for the system containing coarse coal particles. Results from experiments carried out with different coal concentrations indicate that mixing quality of the coal-dolomite system may be affected to some extent by coal concentration. In the fluidized bed containing 6% coal, the mixing quality improves, particularly, for coarse coal particles. But increase in the aspect ratio adversely affects the mixing in the bed containing 6% coal concentration. Mixing of the coal- dolomite becomes poorer as the particle size distribution of coal widens. XVI 1 1 105
