A model for gas bubble behavior in irradiated amorphous $U_3Si_2$ is generalized to take into account local influence of sinks for point defects and gas atoms as far as defect clustering resulting in growth of dislocation loops. A universality of bubble size distribution function and scaling law of bubble size growth is revealed. Temperature dependencies of main quantities governing bubble growth are discussed. Local distribution of bubbles and dislocation loops inside grains is studied in details to illustrate bubble size change in the vicinity of grain boundaries and estimate local swelling. Obtained data are compared with experimental and numerical studies.

The time-dependent kinetics of formation and evolution of nano-size atomic clusters is investigated and illustrated with the nucleation dynamics of ion-seed Ar$_n$H$^+$ particles. The rates of growth and degradation of Ar-atomic shells around the seed ion are inferred from Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations. Simulations of cluster formation have been performed with accurate quantum-mechanical binary interaction potentials. Both the nonequilibrium and equilibrium growth of Ar$_n$H$^+$ are investigated at different temperature and densities of the atomic gas and seed ions. Formation of Ar$_{n\leq 40}$ shells is the main mechanism which regulates the kinetics of nano-cluster growth and the diffusive fluctuations of the cluster size distribution. The time-evolution of the cluster intrinsic energy and cluster size distributions are analyzed at the non-thermal, quasi-equilibrium, and thermal equilibrium stages of Ar$_n$H$^+$ formation. We've determined the self-consistent model parameters for the temporal fluctuations of the cluster size and found coefficients of the diffusive growth mechanism describing the equilibrium distribution of nano-clusters. Leaning upon the specific Fock symmetry of the Coulomb interaction potential in the four-dimensional momentum space we perform the analytical solution of the Lippman-Schwinger equation for the Coulomb transition matrix in the case of negative energy at fraction values of the interaction parameter. We perform a comprehensive study of noise-induced effects in a stochastic model of reaction-diffusion type, describing nano-structured thin films growth at condensation. We introduce an external flux of adsorbate between neighbour monoatomic layers caused by the electrical field presence near substrate in plasma-condensate devices. We take into account that the strength of the electric field fluctuates around its mean value. We discuss a competing influence of the regular and stochastic parts of the external flux onto the dynamics of adsorptive system. It will be shown that the introduced fluctuations induce first-order phase transition in a homogeneous system, govern the pattern formation in a spatially extended system; these parts of the flux control the dynamics of the patterning, spatial order, morphology of the surface, growth law of the mean size of adsorbate islands, type and linear size of surface structures. The influence of the intensity of fluctuations onto scaling and statistical properties of the nano-structured surface is analysed in detail. A generalized model to study dislocation loops growth in irradiated binary Zr-based alloys is presented. It takes into account temperature effects, efficiencies of loops to absorb point defects dependent on the loop size, an influence of locality of grain boundary sink strength, and concentration of the alloying element. This model is used to describe the dynamics of loop radii growth in zirconium-niobium alloys under neutron irradiation at reactor conditions. A growth of both loop radii and strains is studied at different grain sizes, location from grain boundaries, and concentration of niobium. It is shown that locality of grain boundary sinks results in a non-uniform deformation of the crystal inside the grains. Additionally, an introduction of niobium as an alloying element decreases the loop radii but promotes the growth of local strains inside the grains., Comment: 18 pages, 7 figures, 1 table

With the use of the stereographic projection of momentum space into the four-dimensional sphere of unit radius. the possibility of the analytical solution of the three-dimensional two-body Lippmann-Schwinger equation with the Coulomb interaction at negative energy has been studied. Simple analytical expressions for the three-dimensional Coulomb transition matrix in the case of the repulsive Coulomb interaction and positive integer values of the Coulomb parameter have been obtained. The worked out method has been also applied for the generalized three-dimensional Coulomb transition matrix in the case of the attractive Coulomb interaction and negative integer values of the Coulomb parameter., Comment: 7 pages

In this article we study transitions from low-density states towards high-density states in bistable plasma-condensate systems. We take into account an anisotropy in transference of adatoms between neighbour layers induced by the electric field near substrate. We derive the generalized one-layer model by assuming that the strength of the electric field is subjected to both periodic oscillations and multiplicative fluctuations. By studying the homogeneous system we discuss the corresponding mean passage time. In the limit of weak fluctuations, we show the optimization of the mean passage time with variation in the frequency of periodic driving in the non-adiabatic limit. Noise induced effects corresponding to asynchronization and acceleration in the transition dynamics are studied in detail., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures

Atmospheric haze is the leading candidate for the flattening of expolanetary spectra, as it's also an important source of opacity in the atmospheres of solar system planets, satellites, and comets. Exoplanetary transmission spectra, which carry information about how the planetary atmospheres become opaque to stellar light in transit, show broad featureless absorption in the region of wavelengths corresponding to spectral lines of sodium, potassium and water. We develop a detailed atomistic model, describing interactions of atomic or molecular radiators with dust and atmospheric haze particulates. This model incorporates a realistic structure of haze particulates from small nano-size seed particles up to sub-micron irregularly shaped aggregates, accounting for both pairwise collisions between the radiator and haze perturbers, and quasi-static mean field shift of levels in haze environments. This formalism can explain large flattening of absorption and emission spectra in haze atmospheres and shows how the radiator - haze particle interaction affects the absorption spectral shape in the wings of spectral lines and near their centers. The theory can account for nearly all realistic structure, size and chemical composition of haze particulates and predict their influence on absorption and emission spectra in hazy environments. We illustrate the utility of the method by computing shift and broadening of the emission spectra of the sodium D line in an argon haze. We present a comprehensive study of voids formation, nucleation and growth in a prototype model of binary alloys subjected to irradiation by using a combined approach based on phase field and rate theories. It is shown that voids formation is caused by interaction of irradiation-produced vacancies through elastic deformation of a lattice and vacancy coupling with composition field of the alloy. Phase diagrams illustrating the formation of states related to solid solution, phase decomposition, and patterning are obtained. Formation of voids from supersaturated ensemble of vacancies is accompanied by composition rearrangement of alloy components. It was found that elastic inhomogeneity leading to the formation of anisotropic precipitates in an initially prepared binary alloy results in the formation of a void super-lattice under irradiation. It was shown that voids nucleate and grow with dose according to diffusion controlled precipitation processes, where universal dynamics of voids growth is revealed. Estimations of main quantitative and statistical characteristics of voids by using material parameters relevant to most of alloys and steels give good agreement with experimental observations., Comment: 21 pages, 10 figures

Starting from the integral representation of the three-dimensional Coulomb transition matrix elaborated by us formerly with the use of specific symmetry of the interaction in a four-dimensional Euclidean space introduced by Fock, the possibility of the analytical solving of the integral equation for the partial wave transition matrices at the excited bound state energy has been studied. Leaning upon the Fock method of the stereographic projection of the three-dimensional momentum space onto the four-dimensional unit sphere the possibility of the analytical solving of the Lippmann-Schwinger integral equation for the partial wave two-body Coulomb transition matrix at the ground bound state energy has been studied. In this case new expressions for the partial p-, d- and f-wave two-body Coulomb transition matrices have been obtained in the simple analytical form. The developed approach can also be extended to determine analytically the partial wave Coulomb transition matrices at the energies of excited bound states. The direct transition-matrix approach to the description of the electric polarization of the quantum bound system of particles is used to determine the electric multipole polarizabilities of the hydrogen-like atoms. It is shown that in the case of the bound system formed by the Coulomb interaction the corresponding inhomogeneous integral equation determining an off-shell scattering function, which consistently describes virtual multiple scattering, can be solved exactly analytically for all electric multipole polarizabilities. Our method allows to reproduce the known Dalgarno-Lewis formula for electric multipole polarizabilities of the hydrogen atom in the ground state and can also be applied to determine the polarizability of the atom in excited bound states., Comment: 20 pages

Analytical approaches describing non-Fickian diffusion in complex systems are presented. The corresponding methods are applied to the study of statistical properties of pyramidal islands formation with interacting adsorbate at epitaxial growth. Using the generalized kinetic approach we consider universality, scaling dynamics and fractal properties of pyramidal islands growth. In the framework of generalized kinetics, we propose a theoretical model to examine the numerically obtained data for averaged islands size, the number of islands and the corresponding universal distribution over the island size., Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures

Normal diffusion in corrugated potentials with spatially uncorrelated Gaussian energy disorder famously explains the origin of non-Arrhenius $\exp[-\sigma^2/(k_BT^2)]$ temperature-dependence in disordered systems. Here we show that unbiased diffusion remains asymptotically normal also in the presence of spatial correlations decaying to zero. However, due to a temporal lack of self-averaging transient subdiffusion emerges on mesoscale, and it can readily reach macroscale even for moderately strong disorder fluctuations of $\sigma\sim 4-5\, k_BT$. Due to its nonergodic origin such subdiffusion exhibits a large scatter in single trajectory averages. However, at odds with intuition, it occurs essentially faster than one expects from the normal diffusion in the absence of correlations. We apply these results to diffusion of regulatory proteins on DNA molecules and predict that such diffusion should be anomalous, but much faster than earlier expected on a typical length of genes for a realistic energy disorder of several room $k_BT$, or merely $0.05-0.075$ eV.

We study origin, parameter optimization, and thermodynamic efficiency of isothermal rocking ratchets based on fractional subdiffusion within a generalized non-Markovian Langevin equation approach. A corresponding multi-dimensional Markovian embedding dynamics is realized using a set of auxiliary Brownian particles elastically coupled to the central Brownian particle (see video on the journal web site). We show that anomalous subdiffusive transport emerges due to an interplay of nonlinear response and viscoelastic effects for fractional Brownian motion in periodic potentials with broken space-inversion symmetry and driven by a time-periodic field. The anomalous transport becomes optimal for a subthreshold driving when the driving period matches a characteristic time scale of interwell transitions. It can also be optimized by varying temperature, amplitude of periodic potential and driving strength. The useful work done against a load shows a parabolic dependence on the load strength. It grows sublinearly with time and the corresponding thermodynamic efficiency decays algebraically in time because the energy supplied by the driving field scales with time linearly. However, it compares well with the efficiency of normal diffusion rocking ratchets on an appreciably long time scale.

We consider the dynamics of pattern formation in a system of point defects under sustained irradiation within the framework of the rate theory. In our study we generalize the standard approach taking into account a production of defects by elastic fields and a stochastic production representing internal multiplicative noise. Using 3D-modelling we have shown that with the damage rate growth, a morphology of clusters composed of vacancies changes. The same effect is observed with variation in the multiplicative noise intensity. Stationary patterns are studied by means of correlation analysis., Comment: 12 pages, 7 figures

We calculate the index of refraction of sodium matter waves propagating through a gas of nitrogen molecules. We use a recent ab initio potential for the ground state of the NaN_2 Van der Waals complex to perform quantal close-coupling calculations and compute the index of refraction as a function of the projectile velocity. We obtain good agreement with the available experimental data. We show that the refractive index contains glory oscillations, but that they are damped by the averaging over the thermal motion of the N_2 molecules. These oscillations appear at lower temperatures and projectile velocity. We also investigate the behavior of the refractive index at low temperature and low projectile velocity to show its dependence on the rotational state of N_2, and discuss the advantage of using diatomic molecules as projectiles., Comment: 6 pages, 4 figures

The direct transition-matrix approach to determination of the electric polarizabilities of quantum bound systems developed in my recent work is applied to study the electric multipole polarizabilities of a two-particle bound complex with a central interaction between the particles. A new general formalism for determining the electric multipole polarizabilities of quantum (atomic and nuclear) bound systems based on the use of the transition matrix in momentum space has been developed. As distinct from the conventional approach with the application of the spectral expansion of the total Green's function, our approach does not require preliminary determination of the entire unperturbated spectrum; instead, it makes possible to calculate the polarizability of a few-body bound complex directly based on solving integral equations for the wave function of the ground bound state and the transition matrix at negative energy, both of them being real functions of momenta. A formula for the multipole polarizabilities of a two-body bound complex formed by a central interaction potential has been derived and studied. Two-level modeling for nanoscale pattern formation on silicon target by Ar$^+$ ion sputtering is presented. Phase diagram illustrating possible nanosize surface patterns is discussed. Scaling characteristics for the structure wavelength dependence versus incoming ion energy are defined. Let $\mathfrak g$ be a Kac-Moody algebra. We show that every homogeneous right coideal subalgebra $U$ of the multiparameter version of the quantized universal enveloping algebra $U_q(\mathfrak{g}),$ $q^m\neq 1$ containing all group-like elements has a triangular decomposition $U=U^-\otimes_{{\bf k}[F]} {\bf k}[H] \otimes_{{\bf k}[G]} U^+$, where $U^-$ and $ U^+$ are right coideal subalgebras of negative and positive quantum Borel subalgebras. However if $ U_1$ and $ U_2$ are arbitrary right coideal subalgebras of respectively positive and negative quantum Borel subalgebras, then the triangular composition $ U_2\otimes_{{\bf k}[F]} {\bf k}[H]\otimes_{{\bf k}[G]} U_1$ is a right coideal but not necessary a subalgebra. Using a recent combinatorial classification of right coideal subalgebras of the quantum Borel algebra $U_q^+(\mathfrak{so}_{2n+1}),$ we find a necessary condition for the triangular composition to be a right coideal subalgebra of $U_q(\mathfrak{so}_{2n+1}).$ If $q$ has a finite multiplicative order $t>4,$ similar results remain valid for homogeneous right coideal subalgebras of the multiparameter version of the small Lusztig quantum groups $u_q({\frak g}),$ $u_q(\frak{so}_{2n+1}).$

We study pattern formation processes in anisotropic system governed by the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation with multiplicative noise as a generalization of the Bradley-Harper model for ripple formation induced by ion bombardment. For both linear and nonlinear systems we study noise induced effects at ripple formation and discuss scaling behavior of the surface growth and roughness characteristics. It was found that the secondary parameters of the ion beam (beam profile and variations of an incidence angle) can crucially change the topology of patterns and the corresponding dynamics.

A simple analytical expression for the electric dipole polarizability of the three-hadron bound system having only one stable bound state has been derived neglecting by the higher orbital components of the off-shell three-body transition matrix at the energy of the bound state. As a case in point, we have estimated the electric dipole polarizability of the triton, using a cluster triton wave function and the Hulthen potential to describe the related p-n and n-d bound states., Comment: 11 pages

We extend the phase field crystal method for nonequilibrium patterning to stochastic systems with external source where transient dynamics is essential. It was shown that at short time scales the system manifests pattern selection processes. These processes are studied by means of the structure function dynamics analysis. We present calculations of the heliospheric SWCX emission spectra and their contributions in the ROSAT 1/4 keV band. We compare our results with the soft X-ray diffuse background (SXRB) emission detected in front of 378 identified shadowing regions during the ROSAT All-Sky Survey (Snowden et al. 2000). This foreground component is principally attributed to the hot gas of the so-called Local Bubble (LB), an irregularly shaped cavity of ~50-150 pc around the Sun, which is supposed to contain ~10^6 K plasma. Our results suggest that the SWCX emission from the heliosphere is bright enough to account for most of the foreground emission towards the majority of low galactic latitude directions, where the LB is the least extended. In a large part of directions with galactic latitude above 30deg the heliospheric SWCX intensity is significantly smaller than the measured one. However, the SWCX R2/R1 band ratio differs slightly from the data in the galactic center direction, and more significantly in the galactic anti-centre direction where the observed ratio is the smallest. Assuming that both SWCX and hot gas emission are present and their relative contributions vary with direction, we tested a series of thermal plasma spectra for temperatures ranging from 10^5 to 10^6.5 K and searched for a combination of SWCX spectra and thermal emission matching the observed intensities and band ratios, while simultaneously being compatible with O VI emission measurements. In the frame of collisional equilibrium models and for solar abundances, the range we derive for hot gas temperature and emission measure cannot reproduce the Wisconsin C/B band ratio. A rigorous formalism for determining the electric dipole polarizability of a three-hadron bound complex in the case that the system has only one bound (ground) state has been elaborated. On its basis, by applying a model wave function that takes into account specific features of the structure of the lightest hypernucleus and using the known low-energy experimental data for the p-n and lambda-d systems as input data, we have calculated the value of the electric dipole polarizability of the lambda hypertriton. It follows from our study that the polarizability of the lambda hypertriton is close to 3 fm^3 exceeding the polarizabilities of the ordinary three-nucleon nuclei by an order of magnitude., Comment: Comments: 11 pages

We present a comprehensive study of the phase transitions in the single-field reaction-diffusion stochastic systems with field-dependent mobility of a power-low form and the internal fluctuations. Using variational principles and mean-field theory it was shown that the noise can sustain spatial patterns and leads to disordering phase transitions. A three-component dynamic system with influence of pumping and nonlinear dissipation describing a quantum cavity electrodynamic device is studied. Different dynamical regimes are investigated in terms of divergent trajectories approaches and fractal statistics. It has been shown, that in such a system stable and unstable dissipative structures type of limit cycles can be formed with variation of pumping and nonlinear dissipation rate. Transitions to chaotic regime and the corresponding chaotic attractor are studied in details.

We offer a complete classification of right coideal subalgebras which contain all group-like elements for the multiparameter version of the quantum group $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_{n+1})$ provided that the main parameter $q$ is not a root of 1. As a consequence, we determine that for each subgroup $\Sigma $ of the group $G$ of all group-like elements the quantum Borel subalgebra $U_q^+ (\mathfrak{sl}_{n+1})$ containes $(n+1)!$ different homogeneous right coideal subalgebras $U$ such that $U\cap G=\Sigma .$ If $q$ has a finite multiplicative order $t>2,$ the classification remains valid for homogeneous right coideal subalgebras of the multiparameter version of the Lusztig quantum group $u_q (\frak{sl}_{n+1}).$ In the paper we consider the quantifications of Kac-Moody algebras as character Hopf algebras [V.K. We study the 0.57 keV (O VII triplet) and 0.65 keV (O VIII) diffuse emission generated by charge transfer collisions between solar wind (SW) oxygen ions and interstellar H and He neutral atoms in the inner Heliosphere. These lines which dominate the 0.3-1.0 keV energy interval are also produced by hot gas in the galactic halo (GH) and possibly the Local Interstellar Bubble (LB). We developed a time-dependent model of the SW Charge-Exchange (SWCX) X-ray emission, based on the localization of the SW Parker spiral at each instant. We include input SW conditions affecting three selected fields, as well as shadowing targets observed with XMM-Newton, Chandra and Suzaku and calculate X-ray emission fot O VII and O VIII lines. We determine SWCX contamination and residual emission to attribute to the galactic soft X-ray background. We obtain ground level intensities and/or simulated lightcurves for each target and compare to X-ray data. The local 3/4 keV emission (O VII and O VIII) detected in front of shadowing clouds is found to be entirely explained by the CX heliospheric emission. No emission from the LB is needed at these energies. Using the model predictions we subtract the heliospheric contribution to the measured emission and derive the halo contribution. We consider a self-similar phase space with specific fractal dimension $d$ being distributed with spectrum function $f(d)$. Related thermostatistics is shown to be governed by the Tsallis formalism of the non-extensive statistics, where the non-additivity parameter is equal to ${\bar\tau}(q)\equiv 1/\tau(q)>1$, and the multifractal function $\tau(q)= qd_q-f(d_q)$ is the specific heat determined with multifractal parameter $q\in [1,\infty)$. In this way, the equipartition law is shown to take place. Optimization of the multifractal spectrum function $f(d)$ derives the relation between the statistical weight and the system complexity. It is shown the statistical weight exponent $\tau(q)$ can be modeled by hyperbolic tangent deformed in accordance with both Tsallis and Kaniadakis exponentials to describe arbitrary multifractal phase space explicitly. The spectrum function $f(d)$ is proved to increase monotonically from minimum value $f=-1$ at $d=0$ to maximum one $f=1$ at $d=1$. At the same time, the number of monofractals increases with growth of the phase space volume at small dimensions $d$ and falls down in the limit $d\to 1$., Comment: 16 pages, 7 figures

We discuss mechanisms of self-organization processes in two-level solid-state class-B laser system. The model is considered under assumptions of influence of nonlinear absorber and external force, separately. It was found that self-organization occurs through the Hopf bifurcation and results to a stable pulse radiation. Analysis is performed according to the Floquet exponent investigation. It was found that influence of the nonlinear absorber extends the domain of control parameters that manage a stable periodic radiation processes. An external force suppresses self-organization processes. A combined influence of both external force and nonlinear absorber results to more complicated picture of self-organization with two reentrant Hopf bifurcations., Comment: 9 pages, 13 figures

We study the EUV/soft X-ray emission generated by charge transfer between solar wind heavy ions and interstellar H and He neutral atoms in the inner Heliosphere. We present heliospheric maps and spectra for stationary solar wind, depending on solar cycle phase, solar wind anisotropies and composition, line of sight direction and observer position. A time-dependant simulation of the X-ray intensity variations due to temporary solar wind enhancement is compared to XMM Newton recorded data of the Hubble Deep Field North observation (Snowden et al. 2004). We have obtained EUV spectra between 90 and 255 \AA of the cometsC/2002 T7 (LINEAR), C/2001 Q4 (NEAT), and C/2004 Q2 (Machholz) near their perihelion passages in 2004 with the Cosmic Hot Interstellar Plasma Spectrometer (CHIPS). We obtained contemporaneous data on Comet NEAT Q4 with the $Chandra$ X-ray Observatory ACIS instrument, marking the first simultaneous EUV and X-ray spectral observations of a comet. The total CHIPS/EUV observing times were 337 ks for Q4, 234 ks for T7, and 483 ks for Machholz and for both CHIPS and $Chandra$ we calculate we have captured all the comet flux in the instrument field of view. We set upper limits on solar wind charge exchange emission lines of O, C, N, Ne and Fe occurring in the spectral bandpass of CHIPS. The spectrum of Q4 obtained with $Chandra$ can be reproduced by modeling emission lines of C, N O, Mg, Fe, Si, S, and Ne solar wind ions. The measured X-ray emission line intensities are consistent with our predictions from a solar wind charge exchange model. The model predictions for the EUV emission line intensities are determined from the intensity ratios of the cascading X-ray and EUV photons arising in the charge exchange processes. They are compatible with the measured limits on the intensities of the EUV lines. For comet Q4, we measured a total X-ray flux of 3.7$\times 10^{-12}$ ergs cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$, and derive from model predictions a total EUV flux of 1.5$\times 10^{-12}$ erg cm$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$. The CHIPS observations occurred predominantly while the satellite was on the dayside of Earth. For much of the observing time, CHIPS performed observations at smaller solar angles than it was designed for and EUV emission from the Sun scattered into the instrument limited the sensitivity of the EUV measurements., Comment: 28 pages total, 4 tables, 7 figures. We consider the set of monofractals within a multifractal related to the phase space being the support of a generalized thermostatistics. The statistical weight exponent $\tau(q)$ is shown to can be modeled by the hyperbolic tangent deformed in accordance with both Tsallis and Kaniadakis exponentials whose using allows one to describe explicitly arbitrary multifractal phase space. The spectrum function $f(d)$, determining the specific number of monofractals with reduced dimension $d$, is proved to increases monotonically from minimum value $f=-1$ at $d=0$ to maximum $f=1$ at $d=1$. On the basis of the Faddeev integral equations method and the Watson- Feshbach concept of the effective (optical) interaction potential, the first fully consistent three-body approach to the description of the penetration of a charged particle through the Coulomb field of a two-particle bound complex (composed of one charged and one neutral particles) has been developed. We have analyzed data from two sets of calibration observations of the Moon made by the Chandra X-ray Observatory. In addition to obtaining a spectrum of the bright side that shows several distinct fluorescence lines, we also clearly detect time-variable soft X-ray emission, primarily O VII Ka and O VIII Lya, when viewing the optically dark side. The apparent dark-side brightness varied by at least an order of magnitude, up to 2x10^-6 phot/s/arcmin^2/cm^2 between 500 and 900 eV, which is comparable to the typical 3/4-keV-band background emission measured in the ROSAT All-Sky Survey. The spectrum is also very similar to background spectra recorded by Chandra in low or moderate-brightness regions of the sky. Over a decade ago, ROSAT also detected soft X-rays from the dark side of the Moon, which were tentatively ascribed to continuum emission from energetic solar wind electrons impacting the lunar surface. The Chandra observations, however, with their better spectral resolution, combined with contemporaneous measurements of solar-wind parameters, strongly favor charge transfer between highly charged solar-wind ions and neutral hydrogen in the Earth's geocorona as the mechanism for this emission. We present a theoretical model of geocoronal emission and show that predicted spectra and intensities match the Chandra observations very well. We also model the closely related process of heliospheric charge transfer and estimate that the total charge transfer flux observed from Earth amounts to a significant fraction of the soft X-ray background, particularly in the ROSAT 3/4-keV band., Comment: 14 pages, color figures, uses emulateapj style. We study the possible formation of large (mesoscopic) molecular ions in an ultracold degenerate bosonic gas doped with charged particles (ions). We show that the polarization potentials produced by the ionic impurities are capable of capturing hundreds of atoms into loosely bound states. We describe the spontaneous formation of these hollow molecular ions via phonon emission and suggest an optical technique for coherent stimulated transitions of free atoms into a specific bound state. These results open up new interesting possibilities for manipulating tightly confined ensembles., Comment: 4 pages (two-columns), 2 figures
