Abstract: The Data Acquisition System (DAQ) for the LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) dark matter detector is described. The signals from 745 PMTs, distributed across three subsystems, are sampled with 100-MHz 32-channel digitizers (DDC-32s). A basic waveform analysis is carried out on the on-board Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) to extract information about the observed scintillation and electroluminescence signals. This information is used to determine if the digitized waveforms should be preserved for offline analysis. The system is designed around the Kintex-7 FPGA. In addition to digitizing the PMT signals and providing basic event selection in real time, the flexibility provided by the use of FPGAs allows us to monitor the performance of the detector and the DAQ in parallel to normal data acquisition. The hardware and software/firmware of this FPGA-based Architecture for Data acquisition and Realtime monitoring (FADR) are discussed and performance measurements are described., Comment: 18 pages, 24 figures

Abstract: LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) is a second-generation direct dark matter experiment with spin-independent WIMP-nucleon scattering sensitivity above $1.4 \times 10^{-48}$ cm$^{2}$ for a WIMP mass of 40 GeV/c$^{2}$ and a 1000 d exposure. LZ achieves this sensitivity through a combination of a large 5.6 t fiducial volume, active inner and outer veto systems, and radio-pure construction using materials with inherently low radioactivity content. The LZ collaboration performed an extensive radioassay campaign over a period of six years to inform material selection for construction and provide an input to the experimental background model against which any possible signal excess may be evaluated. The campaign and its results are described in this paper. We present assays of dust and radon daughters depositing on the surface of components as well as cleanliness controls necessary to maintain background expectations through detector construction and assembly. Finally, examples from the campaign to highlight fixed contaminant radioassays for the LZ photomultiplier tubes, quality control and quality assurance procedures through fabrication, radon emanation measurements of major sub-systems, and bespoke detector systems to assay scintillator are presented., Comment: 45 pages (79 inc. tables), 7 figures, 9 tables

Abstract: We describe the design and assembly of the LUX-ZEPLIN experiment, a direct detection search for cosmic WIMP dark matter particles. The centerpiece of the experiment is a large liquid xenon time projection chamber sensitive to low energy nuclear recoils. Rejection of backgrounds is enhanced by a Xe skin veto detector and by a liquid scintillator Outer Detector loaded with gadolinium for efficient neutron capture and tagging. LZ is located in the Davis Cavern at the 4850' level of the Sanford Underground Research Facility in Lead, South Dakota, USA. We describe the major subsystems of the experiment and its key design features and requirements.

Abstract: The LUX-ZEPLIN (LZ) experiment will search for dark matter particle interactions with a detector containing a total of 10 tonnes of liquid xenon within a double-vessel cryostat. The large mass and proximity of the cryostat to the active detector volume demand the use of material with extremely low intrinsic radioactivity. We report on the radioassay campaign conducted to identify suitable metals, the determination of factors limiting radiopure production, and the selection of titanium for construction of the LZ cryostat and other detector components. This titanium has been measured with activities of $^{238}$U$_{e}$~$<$1.6~mBq/kg, $^{238}$U$_{l}$~$<$0.09~mBq/kg, $^{232}$Th$_{e}$~$=0.28\pm 0.03$~mBq/kg, $^{232}$Th$_{l}$~$=0.25\pm 0.02$~mBq/kg, $^{40}$K~$<$0.54~mBq/kg, and $^{60}$Co~$<$0.02~mBq/kg (68\% CL). Such low intrinsic activities, which are some of the lowest ever reported for titanium, enable its use for future dark matter and other rare event searches. Monte Carlo simulations have been performed to assess the expected background contribution from the LZ cryostat with this radioactivity. For this reason, genetic resources are crucial for the identification of parents and the enrichment of the gene pool that can be used in the development of new varieties for better nutrition of people. In the study, we examined total nitrogen content, protein ratio, CIE (Commission Internationale Eclairage) wheat color analysis (L* brightness, b* jaundice, a* redness) of 145 genotypes of durum wheat seeds. According to analysis of variance, highly significant differences (P < 0.05 or P < 0.01) were determined for total nitrogen, protein content and CIE L* value, while differences were not significant for b* value and a* value. The superiority of the genotypes was determined by the first two principal components (IPC1 (principle component) and IPC2) in order to create a two-dimensional GT biplot. The sum squares of the first two components were accounted by 45.34% (PC1) and 40.03% (PC2) for genotypes. The GT (genotype x trait) biplot indicated that 9 (nine) sectors occurred among genotypes and quality parameters. On the other hand, three groups occurred among the quality parameters based on the genotypes. The scatter plot demonstrated that there is a high correlation between b* jaundice, and a* redness. The results showed that cultivars and more landraces have general adaptability for all quality parameters, while some genotypes (G79, G78), (G22, G102), (G3) and (G121, G5) showed specific adaptation for N (nitrogen), PC (protein content) and L*, a* and b* values, respectively. According to the biplot techniques, G36 came forward with the N, P and a* value and desirable landraces, G5 for b* value, G30 stable line for all quality parameters, while (G128, G61) and the majority of promising lines (L4, L6) did not come forward with any quality parameters. The results of the study indicated that the majority of landraces can be used as parents to improve the quality of durum wheat varieties. Abstract: In this study investigating the effect of driver behavior on performance of signalized intersections is aimed. For this purpose, a questionnaire is drawn up to assess simultaneously queue length and start response time data at three signalized intersections in Izmir city center. Especially start response times of drivers are tried to be modeled using various physiological scales which explain drivers' behavior. Analyses have shown that, as the age and experience of drivers increase, their perception of safety also increases. It is found that perception of safety changes between 39-50 years of age and with respect to this, start response times are extended and average delay values increase by approximately 20% at signalized intersections. © 2018 Turkish Chamber of Civil Engineers.All right reserved.

Abstract: Bu çalışma, Ordu koşullarında yetiştirilmiş olan Fuyu, Hachiya ve Türkay Trabzon hurması çeşitlerinin soğukta depolanması sırasındaki kalite değişimini belirlemek amacıyla Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi Ziraat Fakültesi Bahçe Bitkileri Bölümü’ nde 2002 ve 2003 yıllarında yürütülmüştür. Delikli polietilen torbalar içerisinde 0°C sıcaklık ve % 90 ± 5 nispi neme sahip depoda 3 ay muhafaza edilen Trabzon hurması meyveleri, iki yıl boyunca dış görünüş ve bazı kalite parametreleri (ağırlık kaybı, meyve sertliği, suda çözünebilir kuru madde içeriği, pH değeri, titre edilebilir asit miktarı, meyve kabuk rengi ve meyve et rengi) bakımından incelenmiştir. Deneme boyunca ilk yıl Fuyu çeşidi örnekleri hariç depolama sonunda meyveler pazarlanabilir ya da iyi durumda bulunmuşlardır. Depolama boyunca ağırlık kaybı, % 1.36 (Hachiya, 2. yıl) ile % 3.55 (Hachiya, 1. yıl) arasında değişmiştir. Meyvelerde muhafaza süresince sertlikte azalma gözlenmiştir. Titre edilebilir asit miktarında azalmalar görülürken, pH değerinde artan yönde dalgalanmalar olmuştur. Bütün çeşitlerde depolamanın ilerlemesiyle birlikte kabuk renginde koyulaşma olduğu bulunmuştur. Meyve et rengininse kırmızıya yakın koyu turuncu rengi aldığı tespit edilmiştir. Her iki yılda alınan sonuçlara dayanılarak, incelenen çeşitlerin 3 ay iyi görünümde muhafaza edilebileceği söylenebilmektedir

29. Physical and chemical composition of some walnut ( Juglans regia L) genotypes grown in Turkey

Abstract: Walnut ( Juglans regia L.) samples were collected during the 2000 and 2001 harvests from different selections of trees grown in Turkey . Important physical and biochemical properties of fruit were examined in these walnut types. At the end of this study, 10 types were selected and nut and kernel properties, fatty acid composition and the proximate composition of these selections which are commonly grown in Turkey were evaluated. Physical properties are attributed to the quality criteria of nuts. Investigated genotypes showed good quality according to the test results. The total oil content ranged from 61.97 to 70.92 % while the crude protein ranged from 15.17 to 19.24 %. Ash ranged from 1.26 to 2.06 % while the moisture was found between 3.25-3.91 % of the kernel. The total carbohydrate was calculated as between 8.05-13.23 %. The oleic acid content of the oils ranged from 21.18 to 40.20% of the total fatty acids, while the linoleic acid content ranged from 43.94 to 60.12 % and the linolenic contents from 6.91 to11.52 %. It was found that palmitic acid was between 5.24 and 7.62 %, while stearic acid ranged from 2.56 to 3.67 %Las nueces ( Juglans regia L.) fueron recolectadas durante los años 2000 y 2001 en diversos nogales seleccionados de Turquía y analizadas para determinar sus propiedades físicas y bioquímicas. Se seleccionaron 10 genotipos en los que fueron determinadas las propiedades de la cáscara y la semilla, la composición en ácidos grasos, así como su composición general. Las propiedades físicas son un atributo de calidad de las nueces. Los genotipos investigados mostraron una buena calidad de acuerdo a los resultados. El contenido total en aceite varió entre el 61.97 y el 70.92 % mientras que la proteína cruda fue del 15.17-19.24 %. La ceniza fue del 1.26-2.06 % y la humedad fue del 3.25-3.91 % de la semilla. Los carbohidratos totales fueron el 8.05-13.23 %. El contenido en ácido oleico fue del 21.18-40.20 % de los ácidos grasos totales, mientras que el contenido en linoleico fue el 43.94-60.12 %, y el de linolénico el 6.91-11.52 %. El palmítico fue el 5.24-7.62 % y el esteárico el 2.56-3.67 %.

Abstract: Turkey has a rich flora due to its geographical location, climate, topographic features and being on the junction of three phytogeographical regions. This rich flora consists of approximately 10.000 ferns and flowering plants. Since 1/3 of these species are endemic species, our flora is especially important. Approximately 900 geophyte taxa growing in our country naturally (plants with bulbs, tubers and rhizomes) contribute significantly to this richness. With the increasing number of floristic studies, both the number of geophytes and other group plants increased year by year. New taxa that have been identified until the end of 2000 have been published in the supplemental volume of Flora of Turkey and the East Aegean Islands. In this study, we prepared a list of geophytes taxa that have been identified from our country since 2001 according to their families and genera and also included their short descriptions., Türkiye, coğrafi konumu, iklim, topoğrafik özellikleri ve üç fitocoğrafik bölgenin kesişme noktasında bulunması gibi özellikleri ile zengin bir floraya sahiptir. Bu zengin flora yaklaşık 10.000 kadar eğrelti ve çiçekli bitki türünü içermektedir. Bu türlerin 1/3’ünün endemik olması ile de floramız ayrı bir öneme sahiptir. Ülkemizde doğal olarak yetişen yaklaşık 900 adet Geofit (soğanlı, yumrulu ve rizomlu bitkiler) taksonları bu zenginliğin önemli bir kısmını oluştururlar. Yapılan floristik çalışmalarla gerek geofitlerin ve gerekse diğer grup bitkilerimizin sayısı yıldan yıla artış göstermektedir. 2000 yılı sonuna kadar tanımlanan yeni taksonlar Flora of Turkey’in ek ciltlerinde yer almıştır. Bu çalışmada 2001 yılından günümüze kadar geçen sürede ülkemizden tanımlanarak yayınlanmış bulunan Geofit taksonların familya ve cinslere göre listesi hazırlanmış ve kısa tanıtımları yapılmıştır.

Abstract: In recent years, pasta-cooking quality has become an important issue in durum wheat breeding. Pasta-cooking quality of durum wheat has been shown to depend mainly on protein content and gluten properties. Gluten is a complex mixture of proteins composed of gliadins and glutenins. A strong correlation exists between certain ?-gliadin and/or LMW-glutenin proteins and the viscoelastic properties of gluten affecting al dente cooking quality of pasta goods. Of those proteins, ?-gliadin 45 and LMW-2 glutenin alleles are correlated with proper gluten strength and superior pasta-cooking quality, whereas ?-gliadin 42 and LMW-1 glutenin tend to provide weak gluten with reduced cooking quality. In this study, DNA and protein markers have been jointly used for the analysis of ?-gliadin and LMW-glutenin QTLs of Turkish local durum wheat cultivars (landraces) affecting pasta-cooking quality. For that purposes, 13 SSR, one STS and two GAG primers linked to Gli-B1 loci were used. Polymorphic relations of 28 Turkish durum wheat landraces with Canadian durum wheat cultivars of Kyle and Avonlea were determined through PCR reactions. Additionally, gliadin and LMW-glutenin proteins of the landraces were separated using A-PAGE and SDS-PAGE techniques, respectively. Of the 28 durum landraces, 17 were determined carrying ?-gliadin 45 and LMW-2 glutenin proteins associated with proper gluten strength and superior pasta-cooking quality. Son yıllarda makarna pişirme kalitesi makarnalık buğday yetiştiriciliğinde önemli bir konu haline geldi. Makarnalık buğdayın makarna pişirme kalitesinin esas olarak protein içeriğine ve glüten özelliklerine bağlı olduğu gösterilmiştir. Gluten, gliadinler ve gluteninlerden oluşan karmaşık bir protein karışımıdır. Bazı gliadin ve / veya LMW-glutenin proteinleri ile makarna ürünlerinin al dente pişirme kalitesini etkileyen glütenin viskoelastik özellikleri arasında güçlü bir korelasyon mevcuttur . Bu proteinlerden -gliadin 45 ve LMW-2 glutenin allelleri, uygun glüten gücü ve üstün makarna pişirme kalitesi ile korelasyon gösterirken,γγγ-gliadin 42 ve LMW-1 glutenin, düşük pişirme kalitesi ile zayıf glüten sağlama eğilimindedir. Bu çalışmada, makarna pişirme kalitesini etkileyen Türk yerel makarnalık buğday çeşitlerinin (yerel çeşitler) -gliadin ve LMW-glutenin QTL'lerinin analizi için DNA ve protein belirteçleri birlikte kullanılmıştır . Bu amaçlar için, Gli-B1 lokuslarına bağlı 13 SSR, bir STS ve iki GAG primeri kullanıldı. Türkiye'deki 28 durum buğdayı yerel türünün Kyle ve Avonlea'nın Kanada durum buğdayı çeşitleriyle polimorfik ilişkileri PCR reaksiyonları ile belirlendi. Ek olarak, yerli ırkların gliadin ve LMW-glutenin proteinleri sırasıyla A-PAGE ve SDS-PAGE teknikleri kullanılarak ayrıldı. 28 makarnalık arazi ırkından 17'sinin taşıdığı belirlendi γγ-gliadin 45 ve LMW-2 glutenin proteinleri, uygun glüten gücü ve üstün makarna pişirme kalitesi ile ilişkilidir.

38. Giant Polypoid Tumor Of The Esophagus

Abstract: A patient with a giant polypoid tumor of the esophagus, measuring 22 cm in length is described in this report. The patient presented with cough attacks and respiratory distress. Diagnostic and therapeutic intervention was required with aggresive airway management, rediographic and endoscopic evaluation, and definitive surgical treatment. Benign esophageal tumors are rare and originate from the upper third of esophagus, frequently close to the cricopharyngeus muscle. They may attain giant proportions. A variety of clinical presentations are described, the most serious being asphyxia secondary to laryngeal obstruction. W observed a giant esophageal tumor which was interpreted as angiofibromyolipoma and causing laryngeal obstruction. We present the clinical picture and histopathological findings of the tumor.Özefagusun Büyük Polipoid TümörüBu olgu sunumunda özefagustan kaynaklanan 22 cm uzunluğunda büyük polipoid tümörü olan hasta rapor edildi. Hasta bize öksürük atağı ve solunum sıkıntısı ile başvurdu. Tanısal ve tedavi edici yaklaşımımızda hava yolu kontrol altına alındı ve radyolojik, endoskopik inceleme yapılarak kesin cerrahi tedavi uygulandı. Beniğn özafagus tümörleri özefagusun üst 1/3 kısmından kaynaklanan, sıklıkla krikofarengeal sfinkteri kapatan, az görülen bir durumdur. Büyük boyutlara ulaşabilirler. Çoğunlukla laringeal obstrüksiyona bağlı olarak asfiksi ile başvururlar. Laringeal obstrüksiyona yol açan anjiofibromyolipoma tanısı almış beniğn büyük özefagus tümörü tanımladık. Bu tömürün klinik görünümü ile histopatolojik bulgularımızı yayınladık.

Throat cul¬tures, WBC, ASO, sedimentation, protein electrophoresis and clinical evalu¬ation were established several times. Indications for tonsilectomy and postoperative prophylaxis have been rewieved. It was concluded that clini¬cal evaluation was much more valuable than laboratory findings for ton¬sillectomy indications.After tonsillectomy, it was observed that in the cultures which were taken from core of the tonsils, Benzatine penicillin was not enough to eradicate the bactéries.ÖzetTonsillektomi endikasyonu olan 90 hastanın 60'ı opere edildi. Boğaz kül¬türleri, kan sayımı, ASO, sedimentasyon, protein elektroforezi ve klinik de¬ğerlendirme birkaç kez yapıldı. Tonsillektomi için endikasyonlar ve postoperatif proflaksi gözden geçirildi. Klinik değerlendirmenin, tonsillektomi endikasyonları için laboratuar bulgularından çok daha değerli olduğu so¬nucuna varıldı.Tonsillektomi sonrasında, tonsil nüvesinden alınan kültürlerde, Benzatin penisilinin bakteri eradikasyonununda yeterli olmadığı gözlendi.

40. Surgical Technigues And Results İn Cholesteatoma Surgery

Abstract: §/ A review of 349 patients with cholesteatoma operated between 1980 and 1995 was done. Of 349 patients, 272 cases had documented follow-up for 1 year or longer and were included in the study which consists of the incidence of residual and recurrent cholesteatoma. The most appropriate surgical technique was performed for each individual case. The surgical techniques were placed in two groups. Open cavity technique: 120 radical mastoidectomy, 26 modified radical mastoidectomy; closed technique: 113 intact canal wall tympanoplasty with mastoidectomy, 13 planned two stage procedure. Recurrence rates were 7.5% with open technique and 11.1% with closed technique. Residive rates were 9.6% with open technique and 5.5% with closed technique. Total failure rate was 17% with open technique and 16.6% with closed technique. The mean follow-up period was 30 months. In our series, there was no significant difference in the incidence and total failure rate of recurrent and residual cholesteatoma between open cavity and closed cavity techniques (p> 0.05).Cerrahi Teknikler ve Sonuçlarımız1980-1995 yılları arasında kolesteatoma tanısıyla öpere edilen 349 hasta incelendi. 349 hastadan 272'si bir yıldan fazla takip edilmişti. Bu hastalar çalışmaya alınarak rezidiv ve rekürrens yönünden değerlendirildi. Her hasta için en uygun cerrahi yöntem seçildi. Cerrahi teknikler iki gruba ayrıldı. Açık teknik: 120 radikal mastoidektomi, 20 modifiye radikal mastoidektomi; kapalı teknik, 113 in takt kanal wall timpanoplasti ve mastoidektomi, 13 iki aşamalı timpanoplasti idi. Rekürrens oranlan açık teknik için %7.5 ve kapalı teknik için % 11.1 olarak bulundu. Rezidiv oranları açık teknik için %9.6 ve kapalı teknik için %5.5 bulundu. Toplam başarısızlık oranı açık teknik için %17, kapalı teknik için %16.6 bulundu. Ortalama takip süresi 30 ay idi. Bu seride iki grup arasında rekürrens ve rezidiv yönünden anlamlı fark bulunamamıştır.

There are same medical reports which have showed us the relationship between the occurence of laryngeal contact ulcers and the esophageal disorders like gastro-esophageal reflux. We investigated whether there was a relationship between the functional disorders of esophagus and the laryngeal disorders in 24 patients with laryngeal pathology and in 17 control patients without any symptoms by using esophagoscopy, esophageal endoscopic biopsy and acid-perfusion test (Bernstein test). Abstract: Three cases of lateral sinus thrombosis with chronic mastoiditis in children are presented. The findings of contrast enhanced computed tomography, Tl weighted axial magnetic resonance imaging, magnetic resonance angiography and neck ultrasonography were consisted with the diagnosis of lateral sinus thrombosis. Complete and modified radical mastoidectomies were underwent to the patients as connection with the extent of disease. The internal jugular vein was ligated in one case. Abstract: OUR SURGICAL EXPERIENCE IN JUVENILE NASOPHARYNGEALANGIOFIBROMA (JNA)t/ Our experience with 14 JNA or a period of 15 years is discussed. All cases were managed surgically: 12 via a transpalatal approach and 2 cases by a combined transpalatal and lateral rhinotomy. In this series, there were no major complications and recurrens of the tumour.Kliniğimizde Ocak 1980-Aralık 1994 yıllan arsında görülen 14 Juvenil Nazofaringeal An-jiofıbrom (JNA) vakası tanı ve tedavi sonuçlarıyla tartışılarak ilgili literatür gözden geçirilmiştir. Vakaların 12 sine Transpalatal (TA) yolla, 2 sine ise Lateral Rinotomi (LR) ve Transpalatal yolla kombine olarak yaklaşılarak tüm vakalar cerrahi olarak tedavi edil¬miştir. Operasyon esnasında ve sonrasında hastalarda herhangi bir ciddi komplikasyon olmamış ve takip sürelerinde nüks gözlenmemiştir.

46. Internal Akustik Kanal Tümörlerinde Bilgisayarlı Tomografi’nin Güvenilirliği

Abstract: The Accuracy of Computed Tomography in internal Acoustic Canal TumorsTo evaluate the accuracy of computed tomography in the diagnosis of internal acoustic canal tumors.Fifty-one patients who admitted with the complaints of vertigo, tinnitus, hearing loss underwent contrast enhanced computed tomography examination of temporal bone willi the suspicion of internal acoustic canal pathology. The mean age of the patients was -17. Magnetic resonance imaging confirmed tumoral pathology in 12 of 18 patients whose computed tomography examinations suggested tumor in the acoustic canal, 'the dimensions of the tumors range between 4-18 mm (mean: 7 mm). The remaining 6 patients were evaluated as normal. Computed tomography diseiosed no difference between the diameters of right and left canals in 17 of 39 patients who were found lo have no tumor on magnetic resonance imaging, whereas a 1 to 3 mm (mean: 1.95 mm! difference was found at the canal diameters by computed tomography in the remaining (22 patients). The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and accuracy rate of computed tomography in diagnosis oi interna.) acoustic canal tumors were 100%. 84.6%. 66.6%. 100%, and 8S".2%, respectively.Computed tomography has a high accuracy in diagnosis of internal acoustic canal tumors. Although a diameter difference, more than 2 mm between right and left canals suggests tumoral pathology, it is not sufficient, for diagnosis alone.İnternal akustik kanal tümörlerinin tanısında bilgisayarlı tomografinin değerini ortaya koymaktır.Vertigo, kulak çınlaması, kulak uğultusu, işitme kaybı şikayetleri ile gelen ve internal akustik kanal patolojisi düşünülen, yaş ortalaması 47 olan, 51 hastaya infravenöz kontrast maddeli temporal kemik bilgisayarlı tomografi incelemesi yapıldı.Bilgisayarlı tomografide lümör tanımlanan 18 olgunun 12'sinde manyetik rezonans görüntülemede de tümör saptandı. Tümörlerin çapı 4 ile 18 mm anısında değişmekleydi (ortalama: 7 mm). Diğer 6 olgu normal olarak değerlendirildi. Manyetik rezonans görüntülemede tümör olmadığı ortaya konan toplam 39 hastanın 17'sinde bilgisayarlı tomografide kanal genişlikleri arasında fark bulunmazken; 22 hastada kanal genişlikleri arasında 1 ile 3 mm arasında (ortalama: 1.95 rnrn) fark saptandı. Bilgisayarlı tomografinin internal akustik kanal tümörlerinde duyarlılığı: %100. özgüllüğü: %84.6. pozitif prediktif il değeri: %66.6, negatif prediktif değeri: %100 ve doğruluk oranı %88.2 olarak bulundu. Bilgisayarlı tomografi internal akustik kanal tümörlerini ortaya koymada yüksek duyarlılığa sahiptir. Kanal genişliği farkının 2 mın'don fazla olması tümör açısından anlamlı olsa da tek başına yeterli değildir.

47. Ani İşitme Kaybı Olan Hastalarda Prognoz Üzerine Etkili Faktörlerin İncelenmesi

Abstract: Ev aluation of Factors Effective on Prognosis in Patients with Sudden Hearing LossSudden sensorioneural hearing loss is one of the important illnesses that has to be managed immediately, however consensus about its treatment is not present. At its pathophysiology, causes like viral infection, vascular factors, labirinth membrane rupture and autoimmunity are thought to be responsible. Although macromolecules like steroids, vasodilatator drugs, plasma volume expanders and urografin are used at treatment, many new treatment modalities are tried. This study was performed in 37 patients with the diagnosis of sudden hearing loss admitted to Ondokuz Mayis University Faculty of Medicine Otorhinolaryngology Department between May 2003 and April 2006. Steroid (1 mg/kg oral), urografin (10 ml i.v. at first day, then 5 ml i.v.), reomakrodeks (500 ml i.v. infusion for 8 hours) and piracetam (2x6 g i.v. for 5 days) were given to all patients. Criteria determined by 'Sudden Deafness Research Team of the Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfare' were used in the evaluation of treatment results. When the treatment results were evaluated, it was seen that prognosis was bad in patients with total hearing loss and hearing loss involving low frequencies had a better prognosis. In the presence of tinnitus as a vestibulocochlear symptom, prognosis was better.Ani sensorinöral işitme kaybı acil müdahale edilmesi gereken, ancak henüz tanı ve tedavisinde fikir birliğine varılamamış, önemli hastalıklardan biridir. Patofizyolojide viral enfeksiyon, vasküler patolojiler, labirent membran rüptürü, otoimmünite gibi nedenler sorumlu tutulmaktadır. Tedavide steroidler, vazadilatör ilaçlar, plazma volüm genişleticileri, ürografin gibi makromoleküller kullanılmakla birlikte gün geçtikçe birçok yeni tedavi modaliteleri denenmektedir. Bu çalışma Mayıs 2003-Nisan 2006 tarihleri arasında Ondokuz Mayıs Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Kulak Burun Boğaz kliniğine başvuran ve ani işitme kaybı tanısı ile tedavi edilen 37 hastada yapıldı. Tüm hastalara steroid (1 mg/kg, oral), ürografin (ilk gün 10cc, dört gün 5 cc iv), reomakrodeks (500 cc/8 saat iv infüzyon) ve pirasetam (2x6 gr iv beş gün) verildi. Tedavi sonuçlarının değerlendirilmesinde 'Sudden Deafness Research Team of the Japanese Ministry of Health and Welfar' tarafından belirlenen kriterler kullanıldı.Tedavi sonuçları değerlendirildiğinde total işitme kayıplı hastalarda prognozun kötü, alçak frekansları tutan işitme kayıplı hastalarda ve vestibülokoklear semptomlardan tinnitus varlığında prognozun daha iyi olduğu görülmüştür.

48. Short Communication Effect of selenium-vitamin E injections of ewes on reproduction and growth of their lambs

Abstract: The experiment was conducted on 90 Karacabey Merino ewes divided into three groups. The first group of ewes was treated with 5 mL 0.1% sodium selenate, the second with 5 mL 0.1% sodium selenate and 250 mg vitamin E, while the third one was a control group. The effect of intra-muscular injection of selenium (Se) and Se plus vitamin E on oestrus, fertility, prolificacy, number of lambs reared the weight of lambs at birth and the live weight gain for 60 days was investigated. The injections of Se plus vitamin E significantly increased the incidence of oestrus, fertility and prolificacy in ewes, lamb body weight at day 60 and daily weight gain of ewes for 60 days postpartum compared with the control group. 50. Determination of the Cold Storage Conditions of Some Apple Cultivars

Abstract: Bu araştırma 2000 2002 yıllan arasında Eğirdir Bahçe Kültürleri Araştırma Enstitüsü ve Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi Ziraat Fakültesi Bahçe Bitkileri Bölümü Derim Sonrası Fizyoloji Laboratuvarında yürütülmüştür. Çalışmada M9 anacı üzerine aşılı Granny Smith, Imparatore ve Idared elma çeşitlerinin soğukta depolanma koşulları incelenmiştir. Uygun depolama koşulunu belirlemek için iki farklı zamanda derilen elmalar ilk yıl 0 oC ve % 90-95 nispi nem , ikinci yıl -1, 0 ve +2 oC sıcaklık ve yine % 90-95 nispi nem koşullarına sahip üç farklı soğuk odada 6 ay süreyle depolanmışlardır. Depolama boyunca birer ay aralıklarla depodan çıkartılan örneklerde ağırlık kaybı, meyve eti sertliği, suda çözünebilir kuru madde, titre edilebilir asitlik ve renk değerleriyle beraber fizyolojik ve patojen kaynaklı bozulmalar incelenmiştir. Deneme sonuçlarına göre Eğirdir ekolojisinde M9 anacı üzerinde yetiştirilen Granny Smith, Imparatore ve Idared elma çeşitlerinin 0 oC sıcaklık ve % 90-95 nispi nem koşullarında 5-6 ay depolanabileceği saptanmıştır., This research was carried out at Horticulture Research Institute of Eğirdir and Postharvest Physiology Lab. of Department of Horticulture, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Süleyman Demirel between 2000 and 20002. Storage conditions of apple varieties Granny Smith, Imparatore and Idared grafted on M9 rootstock were investigated. In order to determine the optimum storage condition, these varieties harvested two different stage were stored at 0 oC temperature and 90-95 % relative humidity in the first year, and at -1, 0 and +2 oC and 90-95 % RH in the second year for 6 months. During the storage period, weight loss, fruit flesh firmness, total solible solid, titretable acidity, colorimeter values (L*, a*, b*) and physiological disorders of apples taken from storage by montly intervals were examined.According to the storage results, it is determined that Granny Smith, Imparatore and Idared apple varieties can be stored at 0 oC temperature and 90-95 % relative humidity for 5-6 months.
