The paper discusses about architectural and urban design tools, and reports a prototype of parametric application that allows the designer to handle the architectural shape by using urban regulations. It is a Decision Support System (DSS), useful at the early stage of city planning as well as at the early stage of architectural design. The System integrates two different research topics: modelling in geo-referenced environment and modelling through constraints. Compared to the related works (Building Modelling on geo-referenced environment), our application is the first Generative System based on the urban regulation. Three case studies are presented to test the System.

The work presents a system able to generate three-dimensional models of buildings, directly within a 3D geobrowser as Google EarthTM. For this purpose we have developed the prototype of a parametric application that allows the designer to handle the architectural shape by using the main constraints belong to urban regulations. The system integrates two different research topics: modelling in geo-referenced environment and modelling constraints. Compared to the related works (Building Modeling within georeferenced environment), our application is the first Generative Design System based on the urban regulation. Some case studies are presented in order to test the Generative Design System: the design of residential buildings in an Italian city.

In this paper we present a new parametric approach based on urban regulation, in order to generate digital models of building, directly within a three-dimensional geo-referenced environment. The system allows user, through implementation of specific generative procedures, to manage interactive architectural design processes. The designer is able to explore all possible infinite scenarios and the various possible design alternatives, by changing the parameters values and verifying in real time the results of the changes. This paper presents a short review of the main related works and an experiment.

The internet, where much of the information has reference to location, together with the latest generation of geographical web services, represent a very large information space that can be used for planning and design. The wealth of information accessible, which requires new forms of interaction and management of the data available, has brought in recent year to the growth of the domain of visual analytics. In addition, the availability of 3D geobrowsers provides the technological means for interactive 3D environments which can be used to access large-scale geographical information. This technological scenario is paving the way to 3D web-based, geo-visual analytics tools for land planning and urban design tools. This paper illustrates the results of a research effort which has brought to the development of an interactive geo-visual analytics platform for land planning and urban design which makes use of procedural modelling algorithms.

A paper, a description of a software application is given, which allows to generate tridimensional models of buildings, directly inside a geo referential context, following a parametric approach, in which the volume of the building is put in direct relation with forces/law bonds emerging from the urban context. The user is, therefore, able to interactively operate within a project process, in which by changing the parameters values and by verifying in real time, the results of the changes, he/she is able to evaluate all possible infinite scenarios. The system,thought for Trento’s (Italy) urban context, may also be applied on other cities.
