Room-temperature superconductivity represents a significant scientific milestone, with the initial report of LK-99, a copper-substituted lead apatite $\mathrm{Pb}_{10-x}\mathrm{Cu}_{x}(\mathrm{PO}_{4})_{6}\mathrm{O}$, offering a potential breakthrough. However, other researchers have encountered numerous challenges in replicating the original experimental results. In recent studies, Wang et al. successfully observed signs of a possible superconducting phase, such as smaller resistance and stronger diamagnetism, upon doping S into the samples. This indicates that the introduction of S is of significant importance for achieving an appropriate structure. To further investigate the role of S, we have considered the $\mathrm{Pb}_{10-x}\mathrm{Cu}_{x}(\mathrm{PO}_{4})_{6}\mathrm{S}$, systematically discussing its thermodynamic stability, as well as the influence of S on the distribution, concentration, and electronic properties of Cu. We find that $\mathrm{Pb}_{10-x}\mathrm{Cu}_{x}(\mathrm{PO}_{4})_{6}\mathrm{S}$ maintains thermodynamic stability, with S primarily influencing the distribution of Cu. The critical element dictating the electronic characteristics of the material post-synthesis is Cu, while the impact of S on the electronic properties is relatively minor. Finding tunable van der Waals (vdW) ferromagnets that operate at above room temperature is an important research focus in physics and materials science. Most vdW magnets are only intrinsically magnetic far below room temperature and magnetism with square-shaped hysteresis at room-temperature has yet to be observed. Here, we report magnetism in a quasi-2D magnet Cr1.2Te2 observed at room temperature (290 K). This magnetism was tuned via a protonic gate with an electron doping concentration up to 3.8 * 10^21 cm^-3. We observed non-monotonic evolutions in both coercivity and anomalous Hall resistivity. Under increased electron doping, the coercivities and anomalous Hall effects (AHEs) vanished, indicating a doping-induced magnetic phase transition. This occurred up to room temperature. DFT calculations showed the formation of an antiferromagnetic (AFM) phase caused by the intercalation of protons which induced significant electron doping in the Cr1.2Te2. The recently discovered surface-group-dependent superconductivity in Nb$_2$C-MXene fabricated by the molten salts method is attracting wide attention. However, regarding the superconductivity of Nb$_2$C-MXene with functional F groups (Nb$_2$CF$_x$), there were some conflicting results in experimental and theoretical studies. Herein, we systematically carried out experimental and theoretical investigations on the superconductivity in Nb$_2$C-MXene with the Cl functional group (Nb$_2$CCl$_x$) and Nb$_2$CF$_x$. The experimental results of the Meissner effect and zero resistivity have proved that Nb$_2$CClx is superconducting with the transition temperature (Tc) ~ 5.2 K. We extract its superconducting parameters from the temperature dependence of resistivity and the field dependence of the magnetization. The Ginzburg-Landau parameter K$_G$$_L$ is estimated to be 2.41, indicating that Nb$_2$CClx is a typical type-II superconductor. Conversely, both magnetic and electrical transport measurements demonstrate that Nb$_2$CF$_x$ is not superconducting. The first-principles density functional theory (DFT) calculations show that the Tc of Nb$_2$Cl$_x$ is ~ 5.2 K, while Nb$_2$CF$_x$ is dynamically unstable with imaginary frequency in phonon spectrum, which is in good agreement with the experimental results. Elementary semiconductors are rare and attractive, especially for low-dimensional materials. Unfortunately, most of boron nanostructures were found to be metallic, despite of their typical semiconducting bulk structure. Herein, we propose a general recipe to realize low-dimensional semiconducting boron. This unusual semiconducting behavior is attributed to charge transfer and electron localization, induced by the symmetry breaking that divides boron atoms into cations and anions. In addition, it is feasible to accomplish band gap engineering by rationally designing various structures. Importantly, the low-dimensional semiconducting boron are predicted to be an excellent solar-cell material with the power conversion efficiency of higher than 20%, paving the way for their promising optoelectronic applications., Comment: 14 pages, 5 figures. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1403.6189 by other authors

The two-dimensional boron monolayers were reported to be metallic both in previous theoretical predictions and experimental observations, however, we have firstly found a family of boron monolayers with the novel semiconducting property as confirmed by the first-principles calculations with the quasi-particle G0W0 approach. We demonstrate that the vanished metallicity characterized by the pz-derived bands cross the Fermi level is attributed to the motif of a triple-hexagonal-vacancy, with which various semiconducting boron monolayers are designed to realize the band-gap engineering for the potential applications in electronic devices. Boron (B) sheet has been intently studied and various candidates with vacancies have been proposed by theoretical investigations, including the possible growth on metal surface. However, a recent experiment (Science 350, 1513, 2015) reported that the sheet formed on the Ag(111) surface was a buckled triangular lattice without vacancy. Our calculations combined with High-Throughput screening and the first-principles method demonstrate a novel growth mechanism of boron sheet from clusters, ribbons, to monolayers, where the B-Ag interaction is dominant in the nucleation of boron nanostructures. We have found that the simulated STM image of the sheet with 1/6 vacancies in a stripe pattern is in better agreement with the experimental observation, which is energetically favored during the nucleation and growth., Comment: 17 pages, 10 figures
