The study of the intra- and intermolecular interactions in the solid state of four related fluorine-containing 1,2,3-triazole derivatives (1: R = –H, 2: R = –NO2, 3: R = –CH3, 4: R = –Cl) was carried out using quantum chemical calculations, vibrational (IR and Raman) and solid phase UV-vis spectroscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods. The enol–keto/keto–enol tautomerism on the o-hydroxyacetophenone moiety was analyzed in terms of the synergy between O–H⋯O intramolecular hydrogen bond strengthening and the enhancement of π delocalization within the pseudo ring. The preference of the enol–keto form was attributed to the aromatic stabilization energy. The proton in the triazole ring was located on the intermediate nitrogen atom, with no evidence of prototropy in the studied series. Compounds 1 and 4 have similar structural motifs with N–H⋯O hydrogen bonds connecting amino and carbonyl groups of neighboring molecules in a chain along the a-axis. For 2, it was found that both oxygen atoms of the nitro substituent participate as acceptors, connecting adjacent molecules by hydrogen bonds through the N–H and O–H groups. In compound 3, the crystallization water molecule dominates the hydrogen bonding interactions, which associates three molecules of 3, giving rise to a three-dimensional H-bonding network. These intra and intermolecular interactions, which affect the absorption band locations of the involved groups, were also detected in the vibrational spectra of the studied triazoles., Centro de Química Inorgánica

The N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is a commonly used mucolytic and antioxidant agent. The knowledgeof interactions of the NAC with cell membranes is important to understand its mechanism ofpharmacological action at the molecular level. To gain a deeper insight into analyzing N-acetylcysteineinteractions with multilamellar liposomes of 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DPPC) inhydrated states at different pH, we performed experimental studies by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and Raman spectroscopy. The behavior of theasymmetric stretching band of the PO2 group was studied by FTIR following the changes that occur inthe shape of this band in the pretransition and transition stages from the gel state to the crystallineliquid state. The values of the pretransition temperature (Tp) for different molar ratios of the complex atthe two pH values studied were coincident between the measurements by FTIR and DSC, with theresults reaffirming the importance of the PO2 group as a sensor not only in the state of hydration butalso in the formation of new intermolecular bonds, which lead to the formation of different domains.The vibrational behavior of the groups of the polar head of the lipid revealed the role of the lipid as anoxidant on the thiol site of the NAC. The results of these studies provide information on membraneintegrity and its physicochemical properties. A fast and single-step procedure is reported for the preparation of stable solutions of spherical-shaped silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) coated with lysozyme (LZ). The preparation of the AgNP@LZ nanocomposites was based on the reduction of Ag + with ketyl radicals photo-generated by the UVA-photolysis of the benzoin I-2959. Both reaction precursors bind to LZ, modifying its superficial charge and conformational structure. The photo-induced kinetics of formation of the AgNPs as a function of the LZ concentration was monitored in-situ by UV–vis absorption spectroscopy. The multivariate curve resolution-alternating least square (MCR–ALS) method was used for the deconvolution of the kinetic curves for each transient species formed before the growth of the final AgNPs colloids. The Kolmogorov-Johnson-Mehl-Avrami (KJMA) model to describe the formation of the AgNPs was used, and the respective first-order rate constants for the growth of the AgNPs as a function of the lysozyme concentration were calculated and the role of the protein capping in the growth kinetics was evaluated. Despite the protein being partially oxidized by the photo-generated radicals, it was strongly adsorbed onto the silver surface forming a tight coating shell around the AgNPs of approximately 30–60 protein molecules. The aim of this study was to evaluate the structural and vibrational properties and biological activity of 2-chloroethyl(methylsulfonyl)methanesulfonate, CH3SO2CH2SO2OCH2CH2Cl (clomesone). The solid-state molecular structure has been isolated and characterized using experimental (X-ray diffraction) and theoretical (DFT method) methodologies. The molecules are packed through C-H⋯O bifurcated interactions and Cl⋯Cl interactions. The experimental investigations are supplemented by quantum chemical calculations and Hirshfeld surface calculations. Furthermore, the infrared and Raman spectra of the solid phase have been obtained, and the observed bands are assigned to the vibrational normal modes. This study is completed using the atoms-in-molecules (AIM) theory and natural bond orbital (NBO) analysis. The aim of this study is to analyze the consequences of water redistribution on the structure and stability of phospholipid bilayers induced by cysteine (Cys). This interaction is studied with 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphatidylcholine (DPPC) multilamellar vesicles in gel (30 °C) and liquid crystalline (50 °C) state; experimental studies were performed by means of Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The polar head sites of the lipid molecules to which water can bind are identified by competition with compounds that form hydrogen bonds, such as Cys. FTIR spectroscopy results revealed that there is a Cys interaction with the phospholipid head groups in the gel and liquid crystalline phases. Raman spectra were measured in the gel state. They were dominated by vibrations of the fatty acyl chains, with superposition of a few bands from the head group, and clearly showed that the S-H stretching band of Cys shifted to lower frequencies with a decrease in its force constant. DSC disclosed an overview of the behavior of the multilamellar vesicles in the working temperature range (30-50 °C) and showed how the increase of the molar ratios modified the environment of the polar head and the hydrocarbon chains. A loss of the pretransition (TP) and an increase in the temperature of main transition (Tm) with increasing Cys/DPPC molar ratio were observed. Fil: Arias, Juan Marcelo. Methyl trifluoromethanethiosulfonate, CF3SO2SCH3, was synthesized and characterized by 13C NMR, 19F NMR, and vibrational spectroscopy. This structural study was supported by MP2 and DFT (B3LYP and MPW1PW91) calculations, which revealed a strong dependence of the theoretical structure on the polarization of the basis set. Theoretical data indicate that only one conformer, gauche, is predicted by rotating around the S–S bond. This conformational preference was studied using the total energy scheme and natural bond orbital partition scheme. These results evidence that electron delocalization and especially LP S → σ∗ C(1)-S interactions play an interesting role in the reactivity-structure connection of oxoesters and thioesters. Gas and liquid infrared and liquid Raman spectra were recorded and assigned. The experimental vibrational data along with theoretical force constants (B3LYP) were used to define a scaled quantum mechanical force field, which enabled the reproduction of the measured frequencies with a final root-mean-square deviation of 8.06 cm−1., Centro de Química Inorgánica

The aim of this work is to evaluate the vibrational and structural properties of l-cysteine ethyl ester hydrochloride (CE), and its electronic behavior mainly in relation to the action of the thiol and amine groups at different degrees of solvation. The crystal structure of CE was determined at room temperature by X-ray diffraction methods. Infrared and Raman spectra were collected to compare the behavior of different functional groups in the molecule, both in the solid phase and in aqueous solution. Its UV and circular dichroism spectra were also measured in aqueous solution. The influence of an aqueous environment on the CE spectra was simulated by means of implicit (polarizable continuum model) and explicit (molecular dynamics, solute-solvent clusters) methods. Calculations in explicit and continuous solvent are of interest to explain the behavior of bioavailable sites in this medium. The study was completed by natural bond orbital analysis to determine the presence of hyperconjugative interactions.

The molecular structure and conformational properties of 2,2,2-trichloroethyl chloroformate, ClC(O)OCH2CCl3 were determined experimentally using gas-phase electron diffraction (GED) and theoretically based on quantum-chemical calculations at the MP2 and DFT levels of theory. Further experimental measurements such as UV-visible, IR and Raman spectroscopy were complemented with the corresponding theoretical studies. All experimental results and calculations confirm the presence of two conformers namely anti?gauche (C1 symmetry) and anti?anti (Cs symmetry). The conformational preference was rationalised by NBO and AIM analyses. Molecular properties such as ionisation potential, electronegativity, chemical potential, chemical hardness and softness were deduced from HOMO?LUMO analyses. The TD-DFT approach was applied to assign the electronic transitions observed in the UV-visible spectrum. A detailed interpretation of the infrared and Raman spectra of the title compound are reported. Using calculated frequencies as a guide, IR and Raman spectra also provide evidence for the presence of both C1 and Cs conformers. Fil: Gil, Diego Mauricio. Ethyl methanesulfonate, CH3SO2OCH2CH3, is well-known as an alkylating agent in mutagenic and carcinogenic processes. Its electronic structure and that of the methanesulfonate anion (CH3SO3-) were determined using optimization methods based on density functional theory and Moller-Plesset second-order perturbation theory. For CH3SO2OCH2CH3, two conformations with symmetries C(s) and C1 are obtained, the former being more stable than the latter. Natural bond orbital (NBO) calculations show the C(s) conformation provides a more favorable geometry of the lone pairs of the oxygen atom linking the ethyl group. The NBO technique also reveals the characteristics of the methanesulfonate anion as a leaving group due to the rearrangement of the excess electronic charge after alkylation. Furthermore, the infrared spectra of CH3SO2OCH2CH3 are reported for the liquid and solid states as well as the Raman spectrum of the liquid. Comparison to experiment of the conformationally averaged IR spectrum of C(s) and C1 provides evidence of the predicted conformations in the solid IR spectrum. These experimental data along with the calculated theoretical force constants are used to define a scaled quantum mechanical force field for the target molecule, which allowed the measured frequencies to be reproduced with a final root-mean-square deviation of 9 cm(-1) and, thus, a reliable assignment of the vibrational spectrum.

The molecular structure and conformational properties of S -ethyl trifluorothioacetate, CF3 COSCH2 CH3, were determined in the gas phase by electron diffraction and vibrational spectroscopy (IR and Raman). The experimental investigations were supplemented by ab initio (Møller Plesset of second order) and density functional theory quantum chemical calculations at different levels of theory. Both experimental and theoretical methods reveal two structures with Cs (anti, anti) and C1 (anti, gauche) symmetries, although there are disagreements about which is more stable. The electron diffraction intensities are best interpreted with a mixture of 51(3)% anti, anti and 49(3)% anti, gauche conformers. This conformational preference was studied using the total energy scheme and the natural bond orbital scheme. In addition, the infrared spectra of CF3 COSCH2 CH3 are reported for the gas, liquid and solid phases as well as the Raman spectrum of the liquid. Using calculated frequencies as a guide, evidence for both Cs and C1 structures is obtained in the IR spectra. The molecular structure of methyl methanethiosulfonate, CH 3 SO 2 SCH 3 , has been determined in the gas phase from electron-diffraction data supplemented by ab initio (HF, MP2) and density functional theory (DFT) calculations using 6-31G(d), 6-311++G(d,p), and 6-31 lG(3df,3pd) basis sets. Both experimental and theoretical data indicate that although both anti and gauche conformers are possible by rotating about the S-S bond, the preferred conformation is gauche. The barrier to internal rotation in the CSSC skeleton has been calculated using the RHF/6-31G(d), MP2/6-31G(d), and B3LYP/6-31G(d) methods as well as MP2 with a 6-31G(3df) basis set on sulfur and 6-31G(d) on C, H, and O. A 6-fold decomposition of the rotational barrier has been performed in terms of a Fourier-type expansion, enabling us to analyze the nature of the potential function, showing that the coefficients V 1 and V 2 are the dominant terms; V 1 is associated with nonbonding interactions, and V 2 is associated with hyperconjugative interactions. A natural bond orbital analysis showed that the lone pair → σ* hyperconjugative interactions favor the gauche conformation. Furthermore, the infrared spectra for the liquid and solid phases and the Raman spectrum for the liquid have been recorded, and the observed bands have been assigned to the vibrational normal modes. The experimental vibrational data, along with calculated theoretical force constants, were used to define a scaled quantum mechanical force field for the target system that enabled us to estimate the measured frequencies with a final root-mean-square deviation of 6 cm -1 .
