The recent acceleration of industrialization and urbanization has brought significant attention to N-(1,3-Dimethylbutyl)-N′-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine quinone (6-PPDQ), an emerging environmental pollutant from tire wear, due to its long-term effects on the environment and organisms. Recent studies suggest that 6-PPDQ can disrupt neurotransmitter synthesis and release, impact receptor function, and alter signaling pathways, potentially causing oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis. This review investigates the potential neurotoxic effects of prolonged 6-PPDQ exposure, the mechanisms underlying its cytotoxicity, and the associated health risks. We emphasize the need for future research, including precise exposure assessments, identification of individual differences, and development of risk assessments and intervention strategies. This article provides a comprehensive overview of 6-PPDQ's behavior, impact, and neurotoxicity in the environment, highlighting key areas and challenges for future research.

Abstract Background Colonoscopy is considered the most effective screening method for colorectal polyps. However, the longevity and complexity of the procedure makes it less desirable to screen for colorectal polyps in the general population. Therefore, it is essential to identify other independent risk factors. In this study, we explored the link between Hp infection, atrophic gastritis, and colorectal polyps to identify a new potential risk factors of colorectal polyps. Methods In this study, atrophic gastritis and intestinal polyps were diagnosed by endoscopy and pathology. All the 792 patients in this retrospective study were divided into sub-groups based on the presence of colorectal polyps. The correlation between polyps and atrophic gastritis was analyzed using the chi-square test and Kruskal-Wallis test. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was used to compare the predictive value for colorectal polyps between Hp infection and atrophic gastritis. Binary logistic regression was utilized to identify independent risk factors for colorectal polyps. Results Patients with colorectal polyps were primarily male with advanced age, and the number of patients with colorectal polyps had a higher association with smoking, alcohol drinking, and Hp infection than the control group. A positive correlation between the number of colorectal polyps and the severity of atrophic gastritis was observed. ROC analysis showed that atrophic gastritis was a better risk factors for colorectal polyps. Multivariate analysis identified atrophic gastritis as an independent risk factor for colorectal polyps (OR 2.294; 95% CI 1.597–3.296). Conclusions Atrophic gastritis confirmed could be an independent risk factors for colorectal polyps.

Summary: Urbanization is a pressing challenge for earth’s humans because it is changing not only natural environments but also agricultural lands. Yet, the consequences of cropland loss on pest insect populations that largely depend on these habitats remain largely unclear. We used a 17-year data set to investigate the dynamics of three moth pest species (i.e., striped stem borer, yellow stem borer, and pink stem borer) and their driving forces across the largest mega-urban region of China. Total abundance of three pest species is declined by about 80%, which was strongly associated with cropland loss during rapid urbanization. Our findings indicate that not only the increasing conversion of natural areas to human-dominated landscapes but also that of agricultural lands to urban landscapes can be critical to insect populations. It is therefore essential to monitor and understand the insect dynamics in rapidly urbanizing regions, which are currently found in many developing countries worldwide.

Red swamp crayfish, Procambarus clarkii (P. clarkii), is an important model crustacean organism used in many types of research. However, the effects of different doses of aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMAP) on the transcriptome and metabolites of P. clarkii have not been explored. Thus, this study investigated the molecular and metabolic mechanisms activated at the different exposure dosages of AMAP in P. clarkii to provide new insights into the strategies of P. clarkii in response to the high concentrations of AMAP in the environment. In the present study, the P. clarkii were divided into three groups (control group; low-dosage AMAP exposure; high-dosage AMAP exposure), and hepatopancreatic tissue samples were dependently taken from the three groups. The response mechanisms at the different dosages of AMAP were investigated based on the transcriptome and metabolome data of P. clarkii. Differentially expressed genes and differentially abundant metabolites were identified in the distinct AMAP dosage exposure groups. The genes related to ribosome cell components were significantly up-regulated, suggesting that ribosomes play an essential role in responding to AMAP stress. The metabolite taurine, involved in the taurine and hypotaurine metabolism pathway, was significantly down-regulated. P. clarkii may provide feedback to counteract different dosages of AMAP via the upregulation of ribosome-related genes and multiple metabolic pathways. These key genes and metabolites play an important role in the response to AMAP stress to better prepare for survival in high AMAP concentrations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is recognized as a type I carcinogen in gastric cancer (GC). However, GC still occurs after H. pylori eradication, and its diagnosis is more complicated. This study aimed to summarize the characteristics of early GC (EGC) after H. pylori eradication to help accurately identify EGC and avoid missed diagnosis and misdiagnosis. A total of 81 patients of EGC after H. pylori eradication (Hp-eradicated group), resected by endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), and 105 cases of H. pylori infection-related EGC (control group) were assessed. After propensity-score matching, the clinical characteristics, endoscopic manifestations, and histopathological features of the 62 matched patients in each group were analyzed. We also conducted specific analyses in combination with endoscopic and histopathological images. There were more patients in the Hp-eradicated group who received proton pump inhibitor (PPI) for >1 year compared to the control group (p < 0.001). More patients at OLGA stages I-II before the diagnosis of EGC were in the control group (p = 0.045), especially at stage II. The mucosa in the Hp-eradicated group showed more moderate-to-severe atrophy (p = 0.047), map-like redness (p < 0.001) and mild activity (p < 0.001). The predominant histopathological types differed between the two groups (p < 0.001), and the majority of cases in the Hp-eradicated group were high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia (HGIN). Ki-67 expression was lower in the Hp-eradicated group (p = 0.025). But different eradication intervals of H. pylori have little effect on the characteristics of EGC. Furthermore, PPI uses for >1 year (p = 0.005), mucosal map-like redness (p < 0.001), moderate mucosal atrophy (p = 0.017), and mild activity of gastric mucosa (p = 0.005) were independent characteristics of EGC after H. pylori eradication. Our multicenter study revealed that EGC after H. pylori eradication was characterized by long-term PPI use, moderate mucosal atrophy, mucosal map-like redness, the mild activity of gastric mucosa, a higher proportion of HGIN cases, and lower levels of Ki-67. EGC after H. pylori eradication was characterized by long-term PPI use, moderate mucosal atrophy, mucosal map-like redness, mild activity of gastric mucosa, a higher proportion of HGIN cases, and lower levels of Ki-67. H. pylori-positive patients at OLGA stages I-II are also more likely to progress to EGC. The pressure plate will be cracking, erasing, and deformation as a result of reduced ability of clutch during the working process. The dynamic model of the vehicle when it started and the CFD model of pressure plate have been established. A new method which can be used to calculate the heat flux and the heat transfer coefficient has been proposed when after anglicizing the model. A simulation analysis of thermal stress coupling of the pressure plate has been made in order to calculate temperature distribution and the stress level of the pressure plate. A new improved solution has been proposed. The result shows that although the plate quality is almost same after the improvement, the temperature peak is reducing about 1o C, the maximum stress decreased 38.6 %, and the axial stiffness improved significantly.
