The water shortage that affected several cities between 2014 and 2015 in the Southeast Region evidenced the fragility of the Brazilian model of water resources management, with the Macaé River Basin (Rio de Janeiro) being an example of this scenario. Despite its regional importance, forecasts point to the commitment of water supply impacting human life and economic activities, including oil exploration in Campos Basin in the coming years. Given this scenario, it is expected that Environmental Education in licensing can promote reflections on water management, systematizing information and creating channels of communication between government and the people. This study also discusses the role of the university and the generation of subsidies for discussions on water resources. La escasez de agua que afectó a varias ciudades entre 2014 y 2015 en la Región Sudeste evidenció la fragilidad del modelo brasileño de gestión de recursos hídricos, siendo la Cuenca del Río Macaé (Río de Janeiro) un ejemplo de ello. Aunque sea de importancia regional, las previsiones apuntan al comprometimiento del abastecimiento de agua que impacta la vida humana y las actividades económicas, incluidas la explotación de petróleo en la Cuenca de Campos en los próximos años. En este escenario, se espera que la Educación Ambiental en el licenciamiento conjunto promueve reflexiones sobre la gestión del agua, sistematizando información y creando canal de comunicación entre poder público y usuarios. Este estudio también discute el papel de la universidad y la generación de subsidios para la administración sobre recursos hídricos. A escassez hídrica que afetou várias cidades entre 2014 e 2015, na Região Sudeste, evidenciou a fragilidade do modelo brasileiro de gestão dos recursos hídricos, sendo a Bacia Hidrográfica do Rio Macaé (RJ) um exemplo desse quadro. Apesar de sua importância regional, há previsões que apontam para o comprometimento do abastecimento hídrico impactando a vida humana e as atividades econômicas, incluindo a exploração de petróleo na Bacia de Campos nos próximos anos. Diante desse cenário, espera-se que a Educação Ambiental no licenciamento possa promover reflexões sobre a gestão das águas, sistematizando informações e criando canais de comunicação entre o poder público e os usuários. Este estudo discute também o papel da universidade interiorizada e a geração de subsídios para discussões sobre os recursos hídricos.

- Abstract
Through litter decomposition enormous amounts of carbon is emitted to the atmosphere. Numerous large-scale decomposition experiments have been conducted focusing on this fundamental soil process in order to understand the controls on the terrestrial carbon transfer to the atmosphere. However, previous studies were mostly based on site-specific litter and methodologies, adding major uncertainty to syntheses, comparisons and meta-analyses across different experiments and sites. In the TeaComposition initiative, the potential litter decomposition is investigated by using standardized substrates (Rooibos and Green tea) for comparison of litter mass loss at 336 sites (ranging from −9 to +26 °C MAT and from 60 to 3113 mm MAP) across different ecosystems. In this study we tested the effect of climate (temperature and moisture), litter type and land-use on early stage decomposition (3 months) across nine biomes. We show that litter quality was the predominant controlling factor in early stage litter decomposition, which explained about 65% of the variability in litter decomposition at a global scale. The effect of climate, on the other hand, was not litter specific and explained <0.5% of the variation for Green tea and 5% for Rooibos tea, and was of significance only under unfavorable decomposition conditions (i.e. xeric versus mesic environments). When the data were aggregated at the biome scale, climate played a significant role on decomposition of both litter types (explaining 64% of the variation for Green tea and 72% for Rooibos tea). No significant effect of land-use on early stage litter decomposition was noted within the temperate biome. Our results indicate that multiple drivers are affecting early stage litter mass loss with litter quality being dominant. In order to be able to quantify the relative importance of the different drivers over time, long-term studies combined with experimental trials are needed.

This study presents the floristic and structural composition of vegetation islands of an inselberg in Vale do Moxuara, in Cariacica-ES, to evaluate whether the islands' richness is related to their size and soil depth. A total of 45 vegetation islands were evaluated by estimating the phytosociological parameters needed for the analysis. Fifty-three vascular plant species of twenty-four families and forty-eight genders were found. The most outstanding families were Poaceae, with seven species, followed by Malvaceae and Fabaceae, with six species each. Weeds represented 39.6% of all flora listed and 25.5% of the islands' vegetation cover. Selaginella convoluta and Anemia tomentosa had the most frequency and relative cover. Caryocar villosum is a common emergent tree of Central Amazonia. It is an important timber tree and source of fruit for men and animals. We study the floral biology, pollination, and breeding system of C. villosum. Data was collected from trees in an urban area, forest fragments and a continuous forest. Floral characteristics and plant-pollinator interactions were described and controlled hand-pollinations were undertaken to study breeding system. The flowers of C. villosum are brush-shaped, yellow and exposed above the canopy in terminal inflorescences. They have nocturnal anthesis, last for one nigth only and produce ca. 750 mL of nectar per nigth, which are typical traits associated with bat pollination. The especies was visited by Phyllostomus discolor and glossophaginae bats, as well as arboreal marsupials and Sphingidae moths. Hand pollinations revealed that C. villosum is self-compatible, but the number of fruits formed from cross-pollination was higher than that from self-pollination.

14. Polinização, sistema de cruzamento e fluxo gênico em Caryocar villosum (Aubl.) Pers. (Caryocaraceae) uma árvore emergente da floresta amazônica

No presente trabalho foi estudado a biologia floral, a ecologia da polinização e o sistema de cruzamento de Caryocar villosum (Caryocaraceae), uma árvore emergente da floresta tropical. Foram utilizados nove locos microssatélites anteriormente desenvolvidos para uma espécies congênere, para investigar o sistema reprodutivo e o fluxo de pólen. As flores de C. villosum tem a forma de "pincel-de-estames", são predominantemente brancas, ficam expostas acima da copa em inflorescências terminais, apresentam antese noturna, duram apenas uma noite e secretam grandes quantidades de néctar (cerca de 750 µl por flor por noite), características da síndrome de quiropterofilia. A estrutura aberta da flor permite que morcegos que pousam na inflorescência (Phyllostomus discolor), morcegos de vôo adejado (glossofagíneos), bem como mariposas esfingídeas e marsupiais tenham acesso ao néctar. Os testes de polinização controlada indicaram que esta espécie é auto-compatível. A análise genética de progênies oriundas de polinização natural, usando marcadores microssatélites, confirmou os dados dos testes de polinização, porém uma proporção maior de sementee é formada quando as flores são submetidas a polinização cruzada, indicando que C. villosum é uma espécie com sistema de cruzamento misto. Das 55 sementes de cinco árvores genotipadas com microssatélites, 80% foram resultantes de eventos de fecundação cruzada, apresentando ao menos um alelo diferente daqueles encontrados na planta-mãe. As 20% restantes foram resultantes de auto-fecundação ou de cruzamentos entre plantas geneticamente aparentadas. Progênies originadas de três árvores, incluindo uma na área urbana de Manaus. Apresentaram somente sementes de cruzamentos, o que provavelmente está relacionado com a presença de polinizadores de longa distância, como morcegos e esfingídeos, na área de ocorrência desses indivíduos. Em contraste, uma árvore localizada em uma área onde se registrou somente visitas de marsupiais, 58% das sementes apresentaram genótipo consistente com auto-fecundação. A análise de uma progênie de onze sementes coletadas de um indivíduo isolado em fragmento de 10 hectares, apresentou um número mínimo de três árvores doadoras de pólen, permitindo inferir a ocorrência de fluxo de pólen a uma distância de no mínimo 600 metros. Os resultados desse estudo sugerem que o sistema de cruzamento misto e a polinização por um amplo espectro de visitantes, tornam C. villosum resistente às alterações no ambiente que resultem na diminuição da densidade da espécie e/ou de seus polinizadores, porém, as conseqüencias genéticas da endogamia só poderão ser evitadas pela presença de polinizadores de longas distâncias.
