As a special case of sparse code multiple access (SCMA), low-density signatures based code-division multiple access (LDS-CDMA) was widely believed to have worse error rate performance compared to SCMA. With the aid of Eisenstein numbers, we present a novel class of LDS which can achieve error rate performances comparable to that of SCMA in Rayleigh fading channels and better performances in Gaussian channels. This is achieved by designing power-imbalanced LDS such that variation of user powers can be seen both in every chip window and the entire sequence window. As LDS-CDMA is more flexible in terms of its backwards compatibility, our proposed LDS are a promising sequence candidate for dynamic machine-type networks serving a wide range of communication devices.

This paper considers the problem of source coding with side information at the decoder, also called Slepian-Wolf source coding scheme. In practical applications of this coding scheme, the statistical relation between the source and the side information can vary from one data transmission to another, and there is a need to adapt the coding rate depending on the current statistical relation. In this paper, we propose a novel rate-adaptive code construction based on LDPC codes for the Slepian-Wolf source coding scheme. The proposed code design method allows to optimize the code degree distributions at all the considered rates, while minimizing the amount of short cycles in the parity check matrices at all rates. In this paper, achievable rates regions are derived for power constrained Gaussian broadcast channel of two users using finite dimension constellations. Various transmission strategies are studied, namely superposition coding (SC) and superposition modulation (SM) and compared to standard schemes such as time sharing (TS). The maximal achievable rates regions for SM and SC strategies are obtained by optimizing over both the joint probability distribution and over the positions of constellation symbols. The improvement in achievable rates for each scheme of increasing complexity is evaluated in terms of SNR savings for a given target achievable rate or/and percentage of gain in achievable rates for one user with reference to a classical scenario., Comment: EUSIPCO 2013.
