We give some examples of Ext groups relevant to computations in the AdS supergravity, using the pure spinor formalism. Our main examples are deformations of $AdS_5\times S^5$ transforming in finite-dimensional representations of the superconformal algebra at the linearized level. In the study of correlation functions, it is important to compute the resolution of BRST-exact products of vertex operators. The resolution is typically non-covariant, because of cohomological obstacles. Linearized solutions of SUGRA equations of motion are described in the pure spinor formalism by vertex operators. We develop a framework for systematic study of symmetry transformations of sigma-model currents in a special situation, when symmetries have a well-defined projection onto the target space. We then apply this formalism to pure spinor sigma-models, and describe the resulting geometric structures in the target space (which in our approach includes the pure spinor ghosts). We perform a detailed study of the transformation properties of currents, using the formalism of equivariant cohomology. We clarify the descent procedure for the ''universal'' deformation corresponding to changing the overall scale of the worldsheet action. We also study the contact terms in the OPE of BRST currents, and derive some relations between currents and vertex operators which perhaps have not been previously acknowledged. We also clarify the geometrical meaning of the ''minimalistic'' BV action for pure spinors in AdS.

We develop a general framework for the insertion of vertex operator on the string worldsheet, in BV formalism. Such insertions correspond to deformations of the Master Action which breaks the gauge symmetry to a subgroup, and then restoring the full gauge symmetry by integrating over a cycle in the space of Lagrangian submanifolds. We provide the general construction, global on the moduli space, which was previously conjectured in a form local on the worldsheet. We explain how the enhancement of the gauge symmetry in equivariant BV formalism can be seen as an application of the general idea of BV effective action. We study the worldsheet theory of bosonic string from the point of view of the BV formalism. Pure spinor formalism implies that supergravity equations in space-time are equivalent to the requirement that the worldsheet sigma-model satisfies certain properties. Here we point out that one of these properties has a particularly transparent geometrical interpretation. Namely, there exists an odd nilpotent vector field on some singular supermanifold, naturally associated to space-time. All supergravity fields are encoded in this vector field, as coefficients in its normal form. Differrential Graded Lie Algebra Dg was previously introduced in the context of current algebras. We show that under some conditions, the problem of constructing equivariantly closed form from closed invariant form is reduces to construction of a representation of Dg. This includes equivariant BV formalism. It is well known in NSR string theory, that vertex operators can be constructed in various ``pictures''. Recently this was discussed in the context of pure spinor formalism. Geodetic Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) data are capable of measuring the light deflection caused by the gravitational field of the Sun and large planets with high accuracy. The parameter $\gamma$ of the parametrized Post-Newtonian (PPN) formalism estimated using observations of reference radio sources near the Sun should be equal to unity in the general relativity. We have run several VLBI experiments tracking reference radio sources from 1 to 3 degrees from the Sun. The best formal accuracy of the parameter $\gamma$ achieved in the single-session mode is less than 0.01 percent, or better than the formal accuracy obtained with a global solution included all available observations at arbitrary elongation from the Sun. We consider the deformations of a supersymmetric quantum field theory by adding spacetime-dependent terms to the action. We propose to describe the renormalization of such deformations in terms of some cohomological invariants, a class of solutions of a Maurer-Cartan equation. We consider the strongly coupled limit of $N=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. In the context of AdS/CFT correspondence, we explain what corresponds to our invariants in classical supergravity. There is a leg amputation procedure, which constructs a solution of the Maurer-Cartan equation from tree diagramms of SUGRA. We consider a particular example of the beta-deformation. It is known that the leading term of the beta-function is cubic in the parameter of the beta-deformation. We give a cohomological interpretation of this leading term. We discuss the relation between unintegrated and integrated vertex operators in string worldsheet theory, in the context of BV formalism. In particular, we clarify the origin of the Fradkin-Tseytlin term. We first consider the case of bosonic string, and then concentrate on the case of pure spinor superstring in $AdS_5\times S^5$. In particular, we compute the action of $b_0 - \bar{b}_0$ on the beta-deformation vertex. Context. We highlight the capabilities of the geodetic VLBI technique to test General relativity in the classical astrometric style, i.e., measuring the deflection of light in the vicinity of the Sun. Aims. In previous studies, the parameter was estimated by global analyses of thousands of geodetic VLBI sessions. Here we estimate from a single session where the Sun has approached two strong reference radio sources 0229+131 and 0235+164 at an elongation angle of 1-3 degrees. Methods. The AUA020 VLBI session of 1 May 2017 was designed to obtain more than 1000 group delays from the two radio sources. The Solar corona effect was effectively calibrated with the dual-frequency observations even at small elongation from the Sun. Results. We obtained with a precision better than what is obtained through global analyses of thousands of standard geodetic sessions over decades. The $b$-ghost of the pure spinor formalism in a general curved background is not holomorphic. For such theories, the construction of the string measure requires the knowledge of the action of diffeomorphisms on the BV phase space. We construct such an action for the pure spinor sigma-model in $AdS_5\times S^5$. From the point of view of the BV formalism, this sigma-model belongs to the class of theories where the expansion of the Master Action in antifields terminates at the quadratic order. We show that it can be reduced to a simpler degenerate sigma-model, preserving the AdS symmetries. It is known that the supermultiplet of beta-deformations of ${\cal N}=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory can be described in terms of the exterior product of two adjoint representations of the superconformal algebra. We present a super-geometrical interpretation of this fact, by evaluating the deforming operator on some special coherent states in the space of supersingletons. Gauge fixing is interpreted in BV formalism as a choice of Lagrangian submanifold in an odd symplectic manifold. A natural construction defines an integration procedure on families of Lagrangian submanifolds. In string perturbation theory, the moduli space integrals of higher genus amplitudes can be interpreted in this way. We discuss the role of gauge symmetries in this construction. We derive the conditions which should be imposed on gauge symmetries for the consistency of our integration procedure. We explain how these conditions behave under the deformations of the worldsheet theory. In BV formalism we can consider a Lagrangian submanifold as a gauge condition. Starting with the BV action functional we construct a closed form on the space of Lagrangian submanifolds. If the action functional is invariant with respect to some group $H$ and $\Lambda$ is an $H$-invariant family of Lagrangian submanifold then under certain conditions we construct a form on $\Lambda$ that descends to a closed form on $\Lambda/H.$ Integrating the latter form over a cycle in $\Lambda/H$ we obtain numbers that can have interesting physical meaning. We have previously described a way of describing the relation between unintegrated and integrated vertex operators in AdS5xS5 which uses the interpretation of the BRST cohomology as a Lie algebra cohomology and integrability properties of the AdS background. Here we clarify some details of that description, and develop a similar approach for an arbitrary curved background with nondegenerate RR bispinor. We study the cohomology of the massless BRST complex of the Type IIB pure spinor superstring in flat space. In particular, we find that the cohomology at the ghost number three is nontrivial and transforms in the same representation of the supersymmetry algebra as the solutions of the linearized classical supergravity equations. Vertex operators in string theory come in two varieties: integrated and unintegrated. Understanding both types is important for the calculation of the string theory amplitudes. The relation between them is a descent procedure typically involving the b-ghost. In the pure spinor formalism vertex operators can be identified as cohomology classes of an infinite-dimensional Lie superalgebra formed by covariant derivatives. In the classical pure spinor worldsheet theory of AdS5xS5 there are some vertex operators which do not correspond to any physical excitations. We study their flat space limit. We find that the BRST operator of the worldsheet theory in flat space-time can be nontrivially deformed without deforming the worldsheet action. Some of these deformations describe the linear dilaton background. But the deformation corresponding to the nonphysical vertex differs from the linear dilaton in not being worldsheet parity even. The nonphysically deformed worldsheet theory has nonzero beta-function at one loop. The existence of a "bonus" U(1) level-one Yangian symmetry of N=4 super-Yang-Mills has recently been proposed. We provide evidence for this proposal by constructing the BRST-invariant nonlocal charge in the pure spinor sigma model corresponding to this bonus level-one symmetry. The worldsheet sigma-model of the superstring in AdS(5) x S(5) has a one-parameter family of flat connections parametrized by the spectral parameter. The corresponding Wilson line is not BRST invariant for an open contour, because the BRST transformation leads to boundary terms. These boundary terms define a cohomological complex associated to the endpoint of the contour. We study the cohomology of this complex for Wilson lines in some infinite-dimensional representations. We find that for these representations the cohomology is nontrivial at the ghost number 2. This implies that it is possible to define a BRST invariant open Wilson line. The central point in the construction is the existence of massless vertex operators transforming exactly covariantly under the action of the global symmetry group. In flat space massless vertices transform covariantly only up to adding BRST exact terms. Integrability of the string worldsheet theory in AdS(5) x S(5) is related to the existence of a flat connection depending on the spectral parameter. The transfer matrix is the open-ended Wilson line of this flat connection. We study the product of transfer matrices in the near-flat space expansion of the AdS(5) x S(5) string theory in the pure spinor formalism. The natural operations on Wilson lines with insertions are described in terms of r- and s-matrices satisfying a generalized classical Yang-Baxter equation. Quantum non-local charges are central to the quantum integrability of a sigma-model. In this paper we study the quantum consistency and UV finiteness of non-local charges of string theory in AdS(5)xS(5). We use the pure spinor formalism. We develop the near-flat space expansion of the transfer matrix and calculate the one-loop divergences. We find that the logarithmic divergences cancel at the level of one loop. This gives strong support to the quantum integrability of the full string theory. It is well known that the classical string on a two-sphere is more or less equivalent to the sine-Gordon model. We consider the nonabelian dual of the classical string on a two-sphere. We discuss basic properties of the Baecklund transformations for the classical string in AdS space in the context of the null-surface perturbation theory. We explain the relation between the Baecklund transformations and the energy shift of the dual field theory state. We show that the Baecklund transformations can be represented as a finite-time evolution generated by a special linear combination of the Pohlmeyer charges. This is a manifestation of the general property of Baecklund transformations known as spectrality. It was conjectured that the classical bosonic string in AdS times a sphere has a special action variable which corresponds to the length of the operator on the field theory side. We discuss the analogous action variable in the sine-Gordon model. We explain the relation between this action variable and the Backlund transformations and show that the corresponding hidden symmetry acts on breathers by shifting their phase. We study the plane wave limit of the Backlund transformations for the classical string in AdS space times a sphere and obtain an explicit expression for the local conserved charges. We show that the Pohlmeyer charges become in the plane wave limit the local integrals of motion of the free massive field. AdS space is the universal covering of a hyperboloid. We consider the action of the deck transformations on a classical string worldsheet in $AdS_5\times S^5$. We review the recent work on the mechanics of fast moving strings in anti-de Sitter space times a sphere and discuss the role of conserved charges. An interesting relation between the local conserved charges of rigid solutions was found in the earlier work. We propose a generalization of this relation for arbitrary solutions, not necessarily rigid. We conjecture that an infinite combination of local conserved charges is an action variable generating periodic trajectories in the classical string phase space. Single trace operators with the large R-charge in supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory correspond to the null-surfaces in $AdS_5\times S^5$. We argue that the moduli space of the null-surfaces is the space of contours in the super-Grassmanian parametrizing the complex $(2|2)$-dimensional subspaces of the complex $(4|4)$-dimensional space. It was conjectured recently that the string worldsheet theory for the fast moving string in AdS times a sphere becomes effectively first order in the time derivative and describes the continuous limit of an integrable spin chain. In this paper we will try to make this statement more precise. We interpret the first order theory as describing the long term evolution of the tensionless string perturbed by a small tension. The long term evolution is a Hamiltonian flow on the moduli space of periodic trajectories. There is a class of single trace operators in ${\cal N}=4$ Yang-Mills theory which are related by the AdS/CFT correspondence to classical string solutions. Interesting examples of such solutions corresponding to periodic trajectories of the Neumann system were studied recently. In our paper we study a generalization of these solutions. We consider strings moving with large velocities. We show that the worldsheet of the fast moving string can be considered as a perturbation of the degenerate worldsheet, with the small parameter being the relativistic factor $\sqrt{1-v^2}$. The series expansion in this relativistic factor should correspond to the perturbative expansion in the dual Yang-Mills theory. We calculate in the strong coupling and large N limit the energy emitted by an accelerated external charge in ${\cal N}=4$ SU(N) Yang-Mills theory, using the AdS/CFT correspondence. We find that the energy is a local functional of the trajectory of the charge. It coincides up to an overall factor with the Lienard formula of the classical electrodynamics. Wilson loops in ${\cal N}=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory correspond at strong coupling to extremal surfaces in $AdS_5$. We study a class of extremal surfaces known as special Legendrian submanifolds. The "hemisphere" corresponding to the circular Wilson loop is an example of a special Legendrian submanifold, and we give another example. We formulate the necessary conditions for the contour on the boundary of $AdS_5$ to be the boundary of the special Legendrian submanifold and conjecture that these conditions are in fact sufficient. We call the solutions of these conditions "special contact Wilson loops". Berenstein, Maldacena, and Nastase have proposed, as a limit of the strong form of the AdS/CFT correspondence, that string theory in a particular plane wave background is dual to a certain subset of operators in the N=4 super-Yang-Mills theory. Even though this is a priori a strong/weak coupling duality, the matrix elements of the string theory Hamiltonian, when expressed in gauge theory variables, are analytic in the 't Hooft coupling constant. This allows one to conjecture that, like the masses of excited string states, these can be recovered using perturbation theory in Yang-Mills theory. In this paper we identify the difference between the generator of scale transformations and a particular U(1) R-symmetry generator as the operator dual to the string theory Hamiltonian for nonvanishing string coupling. We compute its matrix elements and find that they agree with the string theory prediction provided that the state-operator map is modified for nonvanishing string coupling. We construct this map explicitly and calculate the anomalous dimensions of the new operators. We consider the plane wave limit of the nonspherical giant gravitons. We compute the Poisson brackets of the coordinate functions and find a nonlinear algebra. We show that this algebra solves the supersymmetry conditions of the matrix model. This is the generalization of the algebraic realization of the spherical membrane as the ``fuzzy sphere''. It has been recently proposed that string theory in the background of a plane wave corresponds to a certain subsector of the N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. This correspondence follows as a limit of the AdS/CFT duality. As a particular case of the AdS/CFT correspondence, it is a priori a strong/weak coupling duality. However, the predictions for the anomalous dimensions which follow from this particular limit are analytic functions of the 't Hooft coupling constant $\lambda$ and have a well defined expansion in the weak coupling regime. This allows one to conjecture that the correspondence between the strings on the plane wave background and the Yang-Mills theory works at the level of perturbative expansions. In our paper we perform perturbative computations in the Yang-Mills theory that confirm this conjecture. We calculate the anomalous dimension of the operator corresponding to the elementary string excitation. We verify at the two loop level that the anomalous dimension has a finite limit when the R charge $J\to \infty$ keeping $\lambda/J^2$ finite. We conjecture that this is true at higher orders of perturbation theory. We show, by summing an infinite subset of Feynman diagrams, under the above assumption, that the anomalous dimensions arising from the Yang-Mills perturbation theory are in agreement with the anomalous dimensions following from the string worldsheet sigma-model., Comment: 26 pages, LaTeX, added references, small changes in the introduction
