Abstract

This article presents an energy-efficient single-ended transceiver featuring the proposed AC/DC-coupled pre-emphasis feed-forward equalizer (PE-FFE) and edge-dependent phase-modulation decision feedback equalizer (PM-DFE) for low-power memory controllers. Specifically: 1) on the transmitter (Tx) side, an AC/DC-coupled PE-FFE is implemented in a ground-terminated Tx to minimize the equalization (EQ) power and maximize the output swing; 2) on the receiver (Rx) side, an edge-dependent PM-DFE operating on the full-swing signal edges is proposed for time-domain EQ, which improves sampling margin and reduces the linear EQ requirement as well as the power consumption. The design, fabricated in 22-nm CMOS, achieves a data rate of 20 Gb/s/pin with a 41 mV increase in the Tx output eye height and a 0.12 UI increase in the Rx sampling margin over a channel with a 10.3 dB loss. Measurement results reveal an energy efficiency of 0.45 pJ/b and 0.38 pJ/b for the Tx and the Rx, respectively, and a figure-of-merit of 0.081 pJ/b/dB (Tx+Rx).

Abstract

Background: Though as a heavy metal, mercury has a long history in the culture of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). Also until now, we can still find evidence of mercury in some Chinese folk prescriptions (CFP)s in China. Case: We report a case of a 35-year-old rural woman, who took almost 35 g of Hg2O orally to treat her itchy skin followed a folk prescription of an unlicensed practitioners engaging in quackery (UPEQ), which lead to dark red bloody stool and mucus, nausea, and numbness. She sought help from some general hospitals, which brought her only misdiagnosis. Only after a mercury level test conducted by Chongqing Prevention and Treatment Center for Occupational Diseases (CPOD) confirmed her mercury intoxication, she was treated with chelation therapy with sodium dimercaptosulphonat and showed significant improvements. Conclusion: Confused by differences between TCM and CFP, people might take dangerous remedies without realizing the consequences; not only could it exacerbate their primary disease, but it could lead to unexpected and disastrous results.

Abstract

Proposed in this paper is a general parasitic-compatible LCR matching method suitable for $N$-path filter. Analysis of a conventional $L$-type matching is extended to accommodate the case of the $N$- path filter, where the different impedances of the band limited input matching network at multiple local oscillation (LO) harmonic frequencies have to be taken into consideration. Compared to the ideally wideband transformer matching technique, the proposed LCR method has advantages of smaller size and better harmonic folding rejection ratio, while keeping the same properties, such as impedance matching, in-band voltage gain, noise figure and ultimate rejection. Based on the derived equations, the procedure to determine the values of the matching components for given rejection specs has been described using design examples. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
