Acid gas is a type of natural gas or any other gas mixture that contains significant quantities of hydrogen sulfide, carbon dioxide, sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, hydrogen halides, or similar acidic gases. Acid gases form acidic solutions when dissolved in water. A major cause of acid rain is emissions of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide, which react with water molecules in the atmosphere to produce acids. Acid rain refers to a mixture of wet and dry precipitation from the atmosphere that contains more than normal amounts of nitric and sulfuric acids. In this study, the data of the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) as total precipitation (Tp), as well as the Vertical Column amount of SO2 from the Giovanni Center were adopted. The purpose of the research was to find the relationship between rain and sulfur dioxide in Baghdad, Mosul, and Basra cities for the period (2003-2016). The study was carried out for monthly and annual (or yearly) data variations. To find the correlation strengths of the relationship between Total precipitation (Tp) and sulfur dioxide, the correlation coefficients of Spearman’s rho test (rs) were used. It was found that the relationship between (Tp Vs. CO2) and (Tp Vs. SO2) for Mosul station was inverse and positive, with a value of 0.7 that’s due to sulfur water eyes. Also, CO2 was found throughout all months but with different ratios, where the highest concentration was in 2016 in all the stations.

Pigeons are a cosmopolitan group of birds with abundant and large populations associated with human activities. This study focused on determining parasitic infections within domestic pigeons (Columba livia domestica). Forty-eight pigeons were examined for infections, of which 29.16% were infected with a nematode parasite, identified as Hadjelia truncata (Habronematidae), under the koilin layer of their gizzards. The population of nematodes in infected gizzards did not exceed 20 adult worms. DNA from the gizzard worms was extracted and subjected to PCR using primers that amplify the partial 18S rDNA and cytochrome C oxidase subunit I (COX I) regions. Identification of this parasite based on microscopic study revealed the presence of trilobed lips with cephalic papillae and amphidial pores, as well as other characteristic features. In males, spicules were unequal with the presence of six pedunculated pairs of caudal papillae (4 pre- and 2 post-anal) and a tail surrounded with caudal ala. In females, the vulva was a rounded aperture located in front of the posterior end of the esophagus and uteri, which was filled with numerous embryonated eggs. DNA Sequences from partial 18S rDNA were homologous to sequences obtained from H. truncata in GenBank with a high percentage of identity. DNA sequences from mitochondrial gene COX I, however, were unique, and they were the first sequenced for H. truncata, since no sequences for this taxon were previously available in GenBank. Histopathological examination revealed enlargement of infected gizzards in comparison to non-infected ones, with the presence of necrosis and interstitial infiltration in the koilin layer. Concentrations of heavy metals (Fe, Cu, Zn, Cd, Cr, and Co) were measured using inductivity-coupled plasma in tissues (liver, muscles, and gizzards) from infected and non-infected pigeons as well as their parasites. Results showed different affinities of metals to tissues. Recovered parasites can minimize element concentration from their pigeon tissues. In Saudi Arabia, this study was considered the first report identifying pigeon nematodes and evaluating of the effects of their pathogenicity on the animals’ welfare, as well as their application as a useful tool for monitoring environmental pollution.

Estimation of the partial pressure of carbon dioxide (pCO2) in the Bay of Bengal (BoB) region plays a crucial role in better understanding the air-sea CO2 fluxes. Complex physical and biogeochemical processes such as physical mixing, stratification, thermodynamic, and biological effects dominate the spatiotemporal variability of pCO2 concentration over the BoB. This is difficult to estimate through in-situ platforms alone due to the time-consuming, cost-effective, and intricacies involved in water sample collection during rough oceanic weather conditions. Alternatively, remote sensing technology provides governing control parameters with high spatiotemporal resolution over large synoptic scales. Since the BoB region is influenced by the Indian monsoon system and other complex processes, existing regional and global pCO2 algorithms are not adequate to estimate more accurate pCO2 fields. Hence, there is a need to develop a regional pCO2 algorithm over the BoB. To resolve this problem, in the present study, a Multi Parametric Regional Regression (MPRR) approach was developed over the BoB using satellite data such as sea surface temperature (SST), sea surface salinity (SSS), and chlorophyll- ${a}$ (Chl $a$ ) concentration. To train and validate the MPRR approach, required in-situ measurements were obtained from the open and coastal waters of the BoB. The validation results revealed that the present MPRR approach showed better performance with significant low errors (mean relative error (MRE) = 0.012, mean normalized bias (MNB) = 0.022, and root mean square error (RMSE) = 4.75 $\mu $ atm) and a high correlation coefficient (R2 = 0.92). Furthermore, the study demonstrated the spatiotemporal variability of pCO2and generated monthly, seasonal, and annual pCO2 maps over the BoB.

Abstract Background The main anesthetic goal in the postoperative period of functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) is early and pain-free recovery, with return of protective airway reflex. The aim of this study is to evaluate the role of dexmedetomidine as an adjuvant to regional blocks in patients undergoing functional endoscopic sinus surgery. Results Group bupivacaine + dexmedetomidine (BD) showed statistically significantly lower postoperative pain measurements than group bupivacaine (B), longer time to the first request of rescue analgesia, less patients needing rescue analgesia, and less rescue morphine analgesic requirements. Other measurements were insignificantly different between both groups. Conclusions Dexmedetomidine can be used as an adjuvant to regional nerve block in patients undergoing functional endoscopic sinus surgery. It effectively prolonged postoperative analgesia, decreased postoperative opioid analgesic requirements, and reduced the number of patients needing rescue analgesia.

Smart innovative nanocomposites based on active ingredients and metallic nanoparticles with effective wound healing and antifungal properties are efficient in overcoming the limitations of traditional therapeutic products. Open wounds provide an ideal niche for colonization by Candida albicans (C. albicans) which poses substantial global health issues owing to delayed wound healing and disordered healing mechanisms. Therefore, proficient innovative therapies that control C. albicans infection and promote wound healing are of imperative importance for the management of wounds and prevention of infection and possible complications. This study aims to design a novel nanocarrier platform based on a hydrogel loaded with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and doped with pomegranate peel extract (PPE) and hyaluronic acid (HA), offering an unprecedented opportunity to achieve skin repair and manage C. albicans colonization with an efficient wound healing process. Sprague-Dawley rats (n=100) were assigned to 5 groups and infected with C. albicans and distributed as follows: control positive (untreated) and four cutaneous wound-healing model groups treated topically with commercial cream and PPE-HA-AgNPs at full, 50%, and 25% concentrations for 15 days, respectively. Our findings revealed that the severity of clinical signs, C. albicans burden, and the expression of biofilm-related genes ALS1 , HYR1 , and PLB1 were diminished following treatment with PPE-HA-AgNPsIII. Notably, the formulated nanocomposite was very effective in extending the release of PPE-HA-AgNPs in infected wounds with retention percentages of 65.4% for PPE-HA-AgNPsIII. Topical administration of PPE-HA-AgNPsIII successfully alleviated the extensive inflammatory response and healed wounded skin via downregulation of tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-6 and IL-1 beta, and nitric oxide synthase (NOS) levels as shown by enzyme-linked immunosorbent (ELISA) and reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) assays. Interestingly, PPE-HA-AgNPsIII modulated angiogenic and wound healing markers as evidenced by the downregulation of MMP-9 and the upregulation of angiopoietin-1 (Ang-1), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) (up to 10 days post-treatment), transforming growth factor-beta 1 (TGF-β1), bFGF , EGF, Ki- 67, and collagen I and III with efficient wound closure capability. This was evidenced by the lessening of histopathological severity, which accelerated the healing of the infected skin wounds post-treatment with PPE-HA-AgNPs. Overall, our formulated PPE-HA-AgNPs provide an effective innovative therapeutic strategy for the treatment of cutaneous wounds infected with C. albicans with maximized wound healing efficacy, indicating their potential in clinical practice. Introduction: Coccidiosis is a serious parasitic disease in camels caused by an intestinal protozoan parasite of the genus Eimeria , which is linked to significant causes of reduced milk and meat production. In Saudi Arabia, scare literature focused on the coprological investigation of dromedary camels (Camelus dromedarius). To determine the taxonomic status of camel parasite species, we performed morphological characterization of oocysts and genetic analysis (18S rRNA and ITS-1 gene regions) of Eimeria species collected from camels in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Methods: A total of 150 faecal samples were obtained from camels at the old camel market. These samples were tested for the presence of Eimeria oocysts using the conventional floatation technique before being sporulated in a 2.5% potassium dichromate solution. Eimeria oocysts were morphologically and molecularly examined and identified, and the infection rate of parasitic infections was determined. Results: Our findings revealed that the overall frequency of oocysts was 30%. The identified species was Eimeria rajasthani , which had a typical ellipsoidal oocyst shape. Oocystic polar granule, micropyle, micropylar cap, and oocyst residuum are not visible. Sporocysts are oval with stieda body. Sporocyst residuum contains many granules and sporozoites with refractile bodies and nuclei. Genetic analyses of the sequence data from the partial 18S rRNA and ITS-1 gene regions revealed that the sequences obtained from E. rajasthani oocysts are related to DNA sequences reported from E. lamae from the Alpaca from China, particularly the 18S rRNA sequences. Conclusion: This study emphasized the need to use molecular phylogenetic tools to describe camel intestinal coccidian parasites with traditional morphology-based approaches to better understand their biology. For camel husbandry and disease control, more studies should be conducted to better understand the epidemiology of these protozoan parasites. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
