In the life sciences, including hemostasis and thrombosis, methods of structural biology have become indispensable tools for shedding light on underlying mechanisms that govern complex biological processes. Advancements of the relatively young field of computational biology have matured to a point where it is increasingly recognized as trustworthy and useful, in part due to their high space-time resolution that is unparalleled by most experimental techniques to date. In concert with biochemical and biophysical approaches, computational studies have therefore proven time and again in recent years to be key assets in building or suggesting structural models for membrane-bound forms of coagulation factors and their supramolecular complexes on membrane surfaces where they are activated. Such endeavors and the proposed models arising from them are of fundamental importance in describing and understanding the molecular basis of hemostasis under both health and disease conditions. We summarize the body of work done in this important area of research to drive forward both experimental and computational studies toward new discoveries and potential future therapeutic strategies. A long-term effect of ipragliflozin on adipose tissue mass reduction by ipragliflozin in Japanese patients with obese type2 diabetes (mean BMI 35.1 ± 1.1 kg/m2) was investigated. 17 of 20 participants completed this study. Ipragliflozin was administered (50 mg/day) once daily for 12 months. At 0, 3, 6 and 12 months, visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissue area was determined by two different bioelectrical impedance methods, and blood samples for HbA1c, renal function, lipids and liver function obtained, and body weight and blood pressure recorded. The primary endpoint was decrease in body fat mass. Secondary endpoints included changes in body weight and the laboratory data. Visceral fat area (cm2, mean ± SD) at 0, 3, 6 and 12 months was 166.0 ± 49.7, 149.7 ± 46.1, 149.7 ± 42.4 and 148.5 ± 40.2, respectively: the value at 3 months was significantly lower than baseline (P=0.027). Subcutaneous fat at the corresponding time points was 359.3 ± 110.5, 316.6± 87.1, 326.8 ± 87.2 and 325.9 ± 90.4, respectively: the values at each post treatment period were significantly less than the baseline (P=0.003, 0.018 and 0.036 for the three points, respectively). Body weight was significantly reduced by 12 months (P=0.045). Serum alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, and γ-glutamyl transpeptidase levels decreased significantly. There was no significant correlation between serum hepatobiliary enzyme levels and γ-body weight or visceral fat. But γ-GTP was correlated with subcutaneous fat (Spearman’s P=0.004). During 1 year-interval, ipragliflozin significantly reduced subcutaneous adipose tissue and serum hepatobiliary enzyme levels, and may be useful in patients with obese diabetes.

For the magnetic moment of the 2083 keV level of [140]Ce, there are four published data, all obtained by applying an external magnetic field of less than 5 T to a liquid sample containing [140]La using the time-differential perturbed angular correlation (TDPAC) technique. Although these four values are consistent within two times their uncertainties (2σ), the range of values in 2σ extends from μ=+3.0to +5.2 (in units of nuclear magneton, μ[N]). This time, the TDPAC technique was successfully applied to the 2083 keV level of 140Ce implanted in an Fe foil. The magnetic moment of this level was determined to be μ=+4.00(20)μ[N], employing the known hyperfine field at 141Ce in Fe, −41(2) T, which agrees very well with one of the values, μ=+4.06(15)μ[N]. The present value is compared with two shell-model calculations.
