Bimetallic Pt–Pd catalysts supported on ceria have been prepared by mechanochemical synthesis and tested for lean methane oxidation in dry and wet atmosphere. Results show that the addition of platinum has a negative effect on transient light-off activity, but for Pd/Pt molar ratios between 1:1 and 8:1 an improvement during time-on-stream experiments in wet conditions is observed. The bimetallic samples undergo a complex restructuring during operation, starting from the alloying of Pt and Pd and resulting in the formation of unprecedented “mushroom-like” structures consisting of PdO bases with Pt heads as revealed by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) analysis. On milled samples, these structures are well-defined and observed at the interface between palladium and ceria, whereas those on the impregnated catalyst appear less ordered and are located randomly on the surface of ceria and of large PdPt clusters. The milled catalyst prepared by first milling Pd metal and ceria followed by the addition of Pt shows better performances compared to a conventional impregnated sample and also to a sample obtained by inverting the Pd–Pt milling order. This has been ascribed to the intimate contact between Pd and CeO2 generated at the nanoscale during the milling process.

The story of C−C bond formation includes several reactions, and surely Suzuki‐Miyaura is among the most outstanding ones. Herein, a brief historical overview of insights regarding the reaction mechanism is provided. In particular, the formation of the catalytically active species is probably the main concern, thus the preactivation is in competition with, or even assumes the role of the rate determining step (rds) of the overall reaction. Computational chemistry is key in identifying the rds and thus leading to milder conditions on an experimental level by means of predictive catalysis., The complexity of the Pd‐catalyzed Suzuki‐Miyaura C−C bond formation reaction lies in the indivdual steps of the cycle, as well as in the generation of the catalytically active species. An overview of the topic is provided from a historical perspective.

[ES] En la actualidad, existe una dependencia elevada de los combustibles fósiles. El uso de dichos combustibles conlleva diversos problemas como la contaminación y el agotamiento de recursos. Para disminuir la dependencia de los combustibles fósiles se ha comenzado a confiar en las fuentes de energía renovables, donde el hidrógeno puede actuar de vector energético. El hidrógeno puede almacenar grandes cantidades de energía para que se pueda disponer de ella posteriormente. El método más extendido y sencillo para obtener hidrógeno a través de fuentes de energía renovable es la electrólisis alcalina del agua. El problema que presenta este método es el consumo energético que requiere y su baja eficiencia. Para conseguir solventar estos problemas se estudia el desarrollo de nuevos electrodos. El aumento del área superficial específica a través de la porosidad de los electrodos, así como la presencia en el electrodo de materiales nobles que catalizan la reacción de evolución de hidrógeno permiten mejorar la eficiencia y el consumo energético. El presente trabajo final de grado ha sido realizado con la finalidad de estudiar la mejora de la electrólisis alcalina del agua empleando como cátodo electrodos de níquel poroso dopados con nanopartículas de plata y paladio. Lo que se pretende conseguir con el uso de estos electrodos catódicos es la disminución del sobrepotencial y por consiguiente la mejora en el rendimiento energético. Se estudiaron cuatro electrodos: un electrodo de níquel liso; un electrodo de níquel poroso; un electrodo de níquel poroso con nanopartículas de paladio depositadas bajo tratamiento térmico (EPdTT); un electrodo de níquel poroso con nanopartículas de paladio depositadas bajo tratamiento térmico y nanopartículas de plata electrodepositadas (E-PdTT_AgEDP). Para el estudio se han realizado barridos de potencial y ensayos galvanostáticos a diversas intensidades. Además, los experimentos se realizaron a diferentes temperaturas para ver el efecto de ésta sobre la reacción de evolución de hidrógeno. Tras el análisis de los resultados obtenidos, se ha podido corroborar que el aumento de temperatura facilita la reacción de evolución de hidrógeno. Además, se ha podido demostrar que tanto el electrodo E-PdTT como el electrodo E-PdTT_AgEDP ofrecen buenas propiedades electrocatalíticas. Pero el electrodo E-PdTT_AgEDP es el que más destaca al reducir el sobrepotencial, disminuir el consumo energético, aumentar el rendimiento farádico y aumentar el rendimiento energético máximo., [CA] En l’actualitat, existeix una dependència elevada dels combustibles fòssils. L’ús d’aquests combustibles comporta diversos problemes com la contaminació i l’esgotament dels recursos. Per a reduir la dependència dels combustibles fòssils s’ha començat a confiar en les fonts d’energia renovables, on l’hidrogen pot actuar com a vector energètic. L’hidrogen pot emmagatzemar grans quantitats d’energia perquè es puga disposar d’ella posteriorment. El mètode més estès i senzill per a l’obtenció d’hidrogen a través de fonts d’energia renovable és l’electròlisi alcalina de l’aigua. El problema que presenta aquest mètode és el consum energètic que requereix i la seua baixa eficiència. Per a aconseguir resoldre aquests problemes s’estudia el desenvolupament de nous elèctrodes. L’augment de l’àrea superficial específica a través de la porositat dels elèctrodes, així com la presència en l’elèctrode de materials nobles que catalitzen la reacció d’evolució d’hidrogen permeten millorar l’eficiència i el consum energètic. El present treball de fi de grau ha sigut realitzat amb la finalitat d’estudiar la millora de l’electròlisi alcalina de l’aigua emprant com a càtode elèctrodes de níquel porós dopats amb nanopartícules de plata i pal·ladi. Lo que es pretén aconseguir amb l’ús d’aquests elèctrodes catòdics és la disminució del sobrepotencial i per consegüent la millora en el rendiment energètic. Es van estudiar quatre elèctrodes: un elèctrode de níquel llis; un elèctrode de níquel porós; un elèctrode de níquel porós amb nanopartícules de pal·ladi depositades baix tractament tèrmic (E-PdTT); i un elèctrode de níquel porós amb nanopartícules de pal·ladi depositades baix tractament tèrmic i nanopartícules de plata electrodepositades (E-PdTT_AgEDP). Per a l’estudi s’han realitzat corbes de descàrrega d’hidrogen i assajos galvanostàtics a diverses intensitats. A més, els experiments es van realitzar a diferents temperatures per a vorer l’efecte d’aquesta sobre la reacció d’evolució d’hidrogen. Després de l’anàlisi dels resultats obtinguts, s’ha pogut corroborar que l’augment de temperatura facilita la reacció d’evolució d’hidrogen. A més, s’ha pogut demostrar que tant l’elètrode E-PdTT com l’elèctrode E-PdTT_AgEDP ofereixen bones propietats electrocatalítiques. Però l’elèctrode EPdTT_AgEDP és el que més destaca al reduir el sobrepotencial, disminuir el consum energètic, augmentar el rendiment faràdic i augmentar el rendiment energètic màxim., [EN] Nowadays, there is a high dependence on fossil fuels. The use of these fuels entails problems such as contamination and resource depletion. To reduce the dependence on fossil fuels, a reliance on renewable sources has begun, where hydrogen can act as an energy carrier. Hydrogen can store large amounts of energy so that it can be used later. The most extended and simple method to obtain hydrogen through renewable sources of energy is the alkaline water electrolysis. The energetic consumption that this method needs and its low efficiency are the main problems. The development of new electrodes is studied in order to solve these problems. The increase of the specific surface area through porosity of the electrodes, as well as the presence in the electrode of noble materials that catalyse the hydrogen evolution reaction, enable the improvement of the efficiency and the energetic consumption. This work has been done to study the improvement of the alkaline water electrolysis using porous nickel electrode doped with palladium and silver nanoparticles as cathodes. What is intended to achieve with the use of these cathodic electrodes is the reduction of overpotential and, therefore, the improvement of the energetic efficiency. Four electrodes have been studied: a smooth nickel electrode; a porous nickel electrode; a porous nickel electrode with palladium nanoparticles deposited by a heat treatment (E-PdTT); and a porous nickel electrode with palladium nanoparticles deposited by a heat treatment and silver nanoparticles electrodeposited (E-PdTT_AgEDP). For the study of the electrodes, potential sweeps and galvanostatic tests at various currents have been done. Furthermore, the experiments have been done at different temperatures to see the effect of the temperature over the hydrogen evolution reaction. After the analysis of the obtained results, it has been corroborated that the increase of the temperature facilitates the hydrogen evolution reaction. In addition, it has been proved that both the E-PdTT electrode and the E-PdTT_AgEDP electrode offer good electrocatalytic properties. But the EPdTT_AgEDP electrode is the one that stands out the most due to the reduction of overpotential, the reduction of energetic consumption, the increase of faradic efficiency and the increase of the maximum energetic efficiency.

Besides, the usually thermodynamic stability and the low reactivity front air components allowed to develop mesogenic metallocycles, luminescent complexes, catalysts for different organic reactions or medicinal compounds based in palladium (II). Moreover, studies of cyclopalladation reaction about its mechanism, scope and optimization, and on the reactivity of its products are still very active areas of research. The purpose of this Memory is dealing with the one-pot synthesis of cyclopalladated compounds. Particularly, we have studied the synthesis of imine cyclopalladated dimer with the formula [Pd(C6H6-CH=N-CH2-Ph]2(μ-OAc)2, by successive concatenation of condensation and cyclopalladation reactions (System 1), and likewise, the concatenation of oxidation, condensation and cyclopalladation reactions (System 2). The Memory focus on the research of the optimal reaction conditions for an easier obtention of this compound with high yields, however, it reviews splitting reactions of dinuclear compounds with Lewis bases, in particular deuterated pyridine, and secondary compounds obtained as well

This work studies the influence of epsilon particles and metallic precipitates, simulated through the deposition of Pd nanoparticles on non-irradiated UO2, on the oxidation of the spent nuclear fuel (SNF). The presence of Pd nanoparticles favored the reduction by hydrogen of oxidized uranium phases located on the UO2 surface, decreased the oxidation of the UO2 by H2O in the absence of hydrogen, and, in the presence of hydrogen and water vapor, no oxidation of the UO2 by water was detected, contrasting experiments without Pd nanoparticles.

To obtain a state-of-the-art benchmark potential energy surface (PES) for the archetypal oxidative addition of the methane C-H bond to the palladium atom, we have explored this PES using a hierarchical series of ab initio methods (Hartree-Fock, second-order Møller-Plesset perturbation theory, fourth-order Møller-Plesset perturbation theory with single, double and quadruple excitations, coupled cluster theory with single and double excitations (CCSD), and with triple excitations treated perturbatively [CCSD(T)]) and hybrid density functional theory using the B3LYP functional, in combination with a hierarchical series of ten Gaussian-type basis sets, up to g polarization. Relativistic effects are taken into account either through a relativistic effective core potential for palladium or through a full four-component all-electron approach. Counterpoise corrected relative energies of stationary points are converged to within 0.1-0.2 kcal/mol as a function of the basis-set size. Our best estimate of kinetic and thermodynamic parameters is -8.1 (-8.3) kcal/mol for the formation of the reactant complex, 5.8 (3.1) kcal/mol for the activation energy relative to the separate reactants, and 0.8 (-1.2) kcal/mol for the reaction energy (zero-point vibrational energy-corrected values in parentheses). This agrees well with available experimental data. Our work highlights the importance of sufficient higher angular momentum polarization functions, f and g, for correctly describing metal-d-electron correlation and, thus, for obtaining reliable relative energies. We show that standard basis sets, such as LANL2DZ+ 1f for palladium, are not sufficiently polarized for this purpose and lead to erroneous CCSD(T) results. B3LYP is associated with smaller basis set superposition errors and shows faster convergence with basis-set size but yields relative energies (in particular, a reaction barrier) that are ca. 3.5 kcal/mol higher than the corresponding CCSD(T) values. © 2004 American Institute of Physics.

Aquesta tesi descriu l'estudi de diversos catalitzadors de pal·ladi amb lligands donants de fòsfor i nitrogen disponibles al mercat, ja sigui com l'únic lligant o en combinació amb carbens N-heterocíclics. Els sistemes de pal·ladi es van aplicar en carbonilació de anilines per a la formació d'amides i urees. La tesi es divideix en quatre capítols. El primer capítol és una breu introducció a la chemisty carbonilació de catalitzadors de pal·ladi homogenis. També es discuteix reaccions de carbonilació impliquen líquids iònics i catalitzadors SILP. El segon capítol tracta de la formació d'amides a partir d'anilines. Un nou sistema catalític es descriu i es proposa un mecanisme. El tercer capítol es refereix l'estudi de dos sistemes catalítics per a la formació d'urea de difenil implica líquids iònics com a facilitador dissolvent i la reacció. El quart capítol s'ocupa de la transferència del líquid intervinguda per carbonilació oxidativa iònica d'anilina en el flux. Se aplicó tecnología de fase líquido iónico soportada para la heterogeneización del catalizador molecular., This thesis describes the study of several palladium catalysts with commercially available phosphorus and nitrogen donor ligands, either as sole ligand or in combination with N-heterocyclic carbenes. The palladium systems were applied in carbonylation of anilines for the formation of amides and ureas. The thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is a brief introduction to the carbonylation chemisty of homogeneous palladium catalysts. Carbonylation reactions involving ionic liquids and SILP catalysts is also discussed. The second chapter deals with the formation of amides from anilines. A novel catalytic system is disclosed and a mechanism is proposed. The third chapter covers the study of two catalytic systems for the formation of diphenyl urea involving ionic liquids as solvent and reaction facilitator. The fourth chapter describes the transfer of the ionic liquid mediated oxidative carbonylation of aniline into flow. Supported ionic liquid phase technology was applied for the heterogenization of the molecular catalyst.

Stabilization of metal nanoparticles (MNPs) in polymeric matrices of different types has proven to be one of the most promising strategies to prevent their aggregation and to retain their properties. Polymer-stabilized MNPs (PSMNPs) and those based on polymer-metal nanocomposite materials are starting to find wide application in various fields of science and technology. In this paper, we demonstrate that metal-polymer nanocomposite membranes (MPNCMs) containing MNPs can easily be prepared in an ion-exchange such as, for example, sulfonated polyetherether ketone (SPEEK) matrix by using the polymeric membranes as nanoreactors for synthesis and to characterize the composition and structure of the formed MNPs. Metal ions (or metal ion complexes) are first incorporated into the polymeric matrix where they undergo reduction, leading to formation of corresponding MPNCMs. Since this technique allows successive metal loading-reduction cycles to be carried out, it enables synthesis of both monometallic and bimetallic (e.g., core-shell) MNPs. The proposed approach is illustrated by synthesis and characterization of MPNCMs containing both monometallic and bimetallic core-shell MNPs, formed by combinations of Pd, Pt, Co, Ni, and Cu, along with their application in electrochemical sensor and biosensor constructions.

Both polyanions represent the first examples of noble metal-capped polyoxo-noble-metalates in a fully inorganic assembly, featuring an unprecedented host¿guest mode containing hetero- and homometallic Ag¿Pd and Ag¿Ag bonding interactions. Comprehensive theoretical calculations suggest that the Ag¿Pd metallic bonds originate partially from surface confinement of AgI guest ions onto the anionic polyoxopalladate host that is induced by strong electrostatic forces. This work opens the field of fully inorganic silver-palladium-oxo nanoclusters, which can be considered as discrete mixed noble metal precursors for the formation of monodisperse core¿shell nanoparticles, with high relevance for catalysis.

A facile strategy has been explored for loading noble metals onto the surface of ferrite nanoparticles with the assistance of phosphine-functionalized linkers. Palladium loading is shown to occur with participation of both the phosphine function and the surface hydroxyl groups. Hybrid nanoparticles containing simultaneously Pd and Au (or Rh) are obtained by successive loading of metals. Similarly, ferrite nanoparticles decorated with Pd, Au, and Rh have also been formed by using the same strategy. The catalytic properties of the new nanoparticles are evidenced in processes such as reduction of 4-nitrophenol or hydrogenation of styrene. Besides, the sequential process involving a cross-coupling reaction followed by reduction of 1-nitrobiphenyl has been successfully achieved by employing Pd/Au decorated nanoferrite particles. Durant els últims anys, els compostos fosfit han demostrat ser lligands eficients en diverses reaccions catalitzades por metalls de transició. En aquest context, hem desemvolupat diverses lligandoteques fosfit per la seva aplicació en reaccions per obtenit productes enantiomericament purs. Més concretament hem estudiat: (a) La síntesis i aplicació de 9 lligandoteques fosfit-nitrogen en l’hidrogenació d’olefines mínimament funcionalizades catalitzada per iridi i les reaccions de substitució al•lílica i Heck catalitzades per pal•ladi. Aquests lligands s’han dissenyat mitjançant variacions sistemàtiques de diversos paràmetres del lligand. En tots els casos s’han obtingut activitats i selectivitats excel•lents (ee’s superiors als 99%) per un ampli rang de substrats. Els resultats competeixen favorablement amb els publicats prèviament en la bibliografia. (b) L’aplicació de diversos tipus de lligandoteques fosfit en la hidrofomilació de vinilarens, olefines heterocícliques i enol esters terminals catalitzada per rodi obtenint resultats prometedors (ee’ de fins el 76%)., During the last years, phosphite-containing compounds have proved to be efficient ligands for several metal-catalyzed transformations. In this context, we have developed several phosphite-containing ligand libraries for their application in reactions leading to enantiomerically pure products. More concretely we have studied: (a) the synthesis and screening of 9 phosphite-nitrogen ligand libraries in the Ir-catalyzed hydrogenation of minimally functionalized olefins, Pd-catalyzed allylic substitution and Heck reactions. These ligand libraries have been designed by systematic modification of several ligand parameters. In all cases excellent activities, regio- and enantioselectivities (ee’s up to >99%) have been obtained for a broad range of substrates. These results compete favorably with those reported previously in the literature. (b) the screening of several types of phosphite containing ligand libraries in the Rh-catalyzed hydroformylation of vinylarenes, heterocyclic olefins and 1,1’-terminal enol esters obtaining promising results (ee’s up to 76%).

El descobriment de nous mètodes eficients per accedir a productes enantiomèricament purs per al desenvolupament de fàrmacs, productes agroquímics i essències és encara un dels grans reptes per als químics. Tal i com queda reflexat en moltes publicacions, dins dels diversos mètodes per produir compostos enantiopurs, la catàlisi homogènia enantioselectiva és una de les estratègies més atractives. Per poder arribar a elevats nivells de reactivitat i selectivitat en les reaccions catalítiques enantioselectives, s'ha d'optimitzar una sèrie de paràmetres. D'entre ells, la selecció i el disseny del lligand quiral és potser un dels més crucials. Una de les maneres més senzilles d'obtenir lligands quirals és a través de transformacions o derivatitzacions de compostos quirals naturals. Recentment, una de les famílies de compostos naturals més utilitzada és la dels carbohidrats. Degut doncs, a la naturalesa modular i a la diversitat d'esquelets carbohidrat que estan a l'abast, aquesta tesi es centra en el desenvolupament de noves lligandoteques quirals derivades de la D-glucosa, D-xilosa, D-fructosa i D-galactosa i en la seva aplicació en les reaccions asimètriques de: substitució al·lílica catalitzada per pal·ladi, substitució al·lílica catalitzada per coure, addició conjugada 1,4 de compostos α,β-insaturats catalitzada per coure i addició 1,2 d'aldehids catalitzada per níquel. Per assolir aquests objectius s'han sintetitzat quatre famílies de lligands: fosfit-fosforoamidit (L1-L4), difosforoamidit (L5), monofosforoamidit (L6-L10) i monofosfit (L11-L14). Després d'una breu introducció amb el recull dels millors lligands carbohidrat aplicats en les diferents reaccions catalítiques estudiades en aquesta tesi i els objectius d'aquesta, es passa a la discussió dels resultats. En el capítol 3, Asymmetric Pd-catalyzed allylic substitution, es discuteix la síntesi i caracterització de dues famílies de lligands: els fosfit-fosforoamidit (L1-L4), derivats de la D-glucosa i la D-xilosa i una nova família de lligands difosforoamidit (L5) derivats de la D-xilosa; i la seva aplicació en la reacció de substitució al·lílica catalitzada per pal·ladi de diversos substrats cíclics i lineals amb diferents impediments estèrics. També s'inclou un estudi dels intermedis π-al·lil de pal·ladi per tal de poder aprofundir en l'origen de l'enantioselectivitat. En el capítol 4, Asymmetric Cu-catalyzed allylic alkylation, es presenten els resultats preliminars de l'aplicació de la família de lligands fosfit-fosforoamidit (L1-L5), difosforoamidit (L5) monofosforoamidit (L6-L10) a la reacció de substitució al·lílica catalitzada per coure. En aquest capítol també es discuteix la síntesi de la nova família de lligands monofosforoamidit (L6-L10), encara que només alguns d'ells s'apliquen en aquesta reacció. En el capítol 5, Asymmetric Cu-catalyzed 1,4-conjugate addition, es presenta l'aplicació dels lligands fosfit-fosforoamidit (L1-L4), difosforoamidit (L5) i monofosforoamidit (L6-L10) en la reacció d'addició conjugada catalitzada per coure i l'ampliació dels estudis realitzats prèviament amb la família de monofosfits (L11-L14)a una altra classe de substrats (nitro-olefines i enones β,β'disubstituides). En el capítol 6, Asymmetric Ni-catalyzed 1,2-additions, es presenta l'aplicació dels lligands bidentats (L1-L4 i L5) i dels monofosforoamidit (L6-L10) en l'addició 1,2 de trialquil alumini a aldehids catalitzada per níquel., One of the main methods for producing enantiomerically pure compounds is metal asymmetric catalysis. An important step in this strategy is the design and preparation of chiral ligands. Among them, new chiral ligands derived from carbohydrate are presented. These ligands are applied to four asymmetric catalytic reactions: Asymmetric Pd-catalyzed allylic substitution, Asymmetric Cu-catalyzed allylic alkylation, Asymmetric Cu-catalyzed 1,4-conjugate addition and Asymmetric Ni-catalyzed 1,2-addition. Chapter 3. Asymmetric Pd-catalyzed allylic substitution. This chapter contains two sections on the development and application of new phosphite-phosphoroamidite and diphosphoroamidite ligand libraries in the asymmetric Pd-catalyzed allylic substitution reactions. The first section describes the synthesis and application of a phosphitephosphoroamidite ligand library in the asymmetric Pd-catalyzed allylic substitution of several substrates with different electronic and steric properties. This chapter also discusses the synthesis and characterization of the Pd-π-allyl intermediates to provide greater insight into the origin of the enantioselectivity. The second section includes the development and application of a new diphosphoroamidite ligand library in asymmetric allylic substitution. Chapter 4. Asymmetric Cu-catalyzed allylic alkylation. This chapter contains one section, which discusses the preliminary results in the application of phosphite-phosphoroamidite, diphosphoroamidite (both ligand libraries developed in Chapter 3) and monophosphororamidite ligands in the asymmetric Cu-catalyzed allylic alkylation reactions. It also describes the synthesis of a new monophosphoroamidite ligand library. Chapter 5. Asymmetric Cu-catalyzed 1,4-conjugate addition. This chapter contains two sections on the application of the phosphite-phosphoroamidite and diphosphoroamidite (developed in Chapter 3), and monophosphoroamidite (developed in Chapter 4) and phosphite ligand libraries in the asymmetric Cu-catalyzed 1,4-addition reactions. The first one reports the investigations of the Cu-catalyzed 1,4-conjugate addition of organometallic reagents to enones using the phosphite-phosphoroamidite and diphosphoroamidite ligand libraries. The second section includes the application of the monophosphoroamidite and monophosphite ligand libraries in the Cu-catalyzed 1,4-conjugate addition of organometallic reagents to cyclic and linear enones. Chapter 6. Asymmetric Ni-catalyzed 1,2-addition. This chapter contains two sections on the application of the phosphite-phosphoroamidite and diphosphoroamidite (developed in Chapter 3) and monophosphoroamidite (developed in Chapter 4) ligand libraries in the asymmetric Ni-catalyzed 1,2-addition reactions. The first one reports the investigations of the Ni-catalyzed trialkylaluminium 1,2-addition to aldehydes using the phosphitephosphoroamidite and diphosphoroamidite ligand libraries. The second section includes the application of the carbohydrate-based monophosphoroamidite ligand library in the Nicatalyzed trialkylaluminium 1,2-addition to several aldehydes types.

La síntesi i caracterització estructural d'un nou tipus de macrocicles nitrogenats de 15, 20 i 25 membres, els quals contenen triples i dobles enllaços i diferents unitats aríliques a la seva estructura, ha estat estudiada. S'han preparat els complexos de pal·ladi(0) dels corresponents macrocicles poliinsaturats de 15 membres, els quals són estables a l'aire i a la humitat i en alguns casos presenten quiralitat. La seva caracterització completa s'ha portat a terme mitjançant RMN i difracció de raigs-X. S'ha estudiat també la reacció de cicloisomerització d'aquests macrocicles emprant diferents catalitzadors basats en metalls de transició, observant-se que el catalitzador de Wilkinson, de rodi(I), és el que ha donat més bons resultats. Finalment, s'ha realitzat una introducció a l'estudi del mecanisme d'aquest tipus de reaccions mitjançant ESI-MS, així com també un estudi inicial de la reacció de cicloisomerització enantioselectiva., The synthesis and structural analysis of a new type of 15-, 20- and 25-membered nitrogen-containing polyunsaturated macrocycles has been carried out. Palladium(0) complexes of 15-membered polyunsaturated azamacrocycles, which are air and moisture stable and in some cases present chirality, has been prepared and fully caracterized by means of NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. The cycloisomerization reaction of these macrocycles using different catalysts based in different transition metals has been studied. It was observed that Wilkinson's catalyst (rhodium(I) catalyst) gave the best results. A brief look at the mechanism of cyclotrimerization reaction by means of ESI-MS has been carried out. Finally, an introduction in the study of the enantioselective cycloisomerization reaction of these macrocycles has been done.

En els últims anys, la creixent demanda de compostos enantiomèricament purs (fàrmacs, agroquímics...) ha impulsat el desenvolupament de la catàlisi asimètrica, sobretot emprant compostos organometàl·lics quirals com a catalitzadors. En aquest context, la síntesi de nous lligands quirals és essencial per descobrir bons sistemes catalítics en catàlisis asimètrica. Els sucres són una font important de lligands per l'elevada disponibilitat i baix preu. A més, són compostos altament funcionalitzats amb centres esterogènics. Això permet la síntesi de sèries sistemàtiques de lligands amb l'objectiu d'obtenir altes activitats i selectivitats per cada reacció en particular.Aquesta tesi s'ha centrat en la síntesi de compostos derivats de la D-(+)-glucosa, de la D-(+)-fructosa i la D-(+)-galactosa i l'aplicació com a lligands de catalitzadors homogenis quirals en quatre reaccions asimètriques: substitució al·lílica, Heck, addició 1,2 i addició conjugada 1,4. Per assolir aquest objectiu, s'ha plantejat la síntesi de tres famílies de compostos: fosfit-oxazolina (L1-L5), fosfit-fosforoamidit (L6) i monofosfit (L7-L11) (Figura 1). Després de la introducció (Capítol 1) i els objectius (Capítol 2), al capítol 3 es discuteix la síntesi i caracterització de les tres llibreries de compostos (L1-L11) i s'estudia l'aplicació de les tres llibreries a la reacció de substitució al·lílica asimètrica catalitzades per pal·ladi. La primera llibreria de compostos fosfit-oxazolina (L1-L5) ha mostrat altes enantioselectivitats (fins a un 99%) i bones activitats en un ampli ventall de substrats amb diferents propietats electròniques i estèriques. S'han observat importants efectes al variar els substituents de l'anell oxazolina, de la quiralitat axial i dels diferents substituents del biaril. L'estudi de diferents intermedis de reacció pal·ladi al·lil mitjançant espectroscòpia de ressonància magnètica nuclear ha permès entendre el comportament catalític d'aquests compostos. L'estudi també ha indicat que l'atac nuclèofil té lloc preferentment al carboni al·lílic terminal localitzat trans al fosfit. Figura 1. Fosfit-oxazolina (L1-L5), fosfit-fosforamidit (L6) i monofosfit (L7-L11).Les reaccions de substitució asimètrica utilitzant els compostos fosfit-fosforoamidit (L6) han mostrat que l'excés enantiomèric depèn preferentment dels substituents de les posicions en para dels bifenils. Aquests efectes han estat diferents segons el tipus de substrat. S'han obtingut excessos enantiomèrics fins a un 89% i altes activitats utilitzant el substrat rac-1,3-difenil-acetoxipropè, rac-(E)-etil-2,5-dimetil-3-hex-4-enilcarbonat i el rac-3-acetoxicicloheptè. Pel substrat lineal 1-(1-naftil)al·lil acetat, aquests lligands han mostrat no ser útils en termes de regioselectivitat però s'han obtingut bons excessos enantiomèrics de fins a un 72%.Si comparem aquests resultats amb els obtinguts amb els compostos fosfit-oxazolina (L1-L5) s'observa que el canvi de la funció oxazolina per la funció fosforoamidit té un efecte negatiu en la reacció de substitució al·lílica i en general decreixen les enantioselectivitats i la versalitat d'aquests compostos.L'aplicació de la llibreria de compostos monofosfit (L7-L11) en la reacció de substitució al·lílica asimètrica ha mostrat moderades enantioselectivitats (fins a un 46%). Els resultats en la catàlisi es veuen afectats en gran mesura per la diferència en la mida de l'anell carbohidrat, de les configuracions del carboni-3 i del carboni-4 de l'esquelet del lligand i pel tipus de substituents de l'anell biaril. El capítol 4 descriu l'aplicació dels compostos fosfit-oxazolina (L1-L5) com a lligands en la reacció de Heck asimètrica intermolecular. Una selecció correcta dels substituents en la funció oxazolina i del fosfit han permès obtenir excel·lents activitats (fins un 100% de conversió en 10 minuts), regioselectivitats i enantioselectivitats (fins un 99%) en un ampli rang de substrats utilitzant diferents fonts de triflat. El capítol 5 descriu l'aplicació de les tres llibreries de compostos (L1-L11) a les reaccions d'addició 1,2 a aldehids catalitzades per níquel. En primer lloc, s'ha estudiat l'aplicació dels compostos L1-L6. S'ha observat que la selectivitat del procés depèn principalment del grup funcional unit a l'esquelet del lligand, de les propietats estèriques del substituent en la funció oxazolina i de l'estructura del substrat. S'ha obtingut fins a un 59% d'excés enantiomèric utilitzant el precursor de catalitzador que conté el lligand L3a. En canvi, la utilització de la llibreria de compostos monofosfit (L7-L11) ha mostrat elevades enantioselectivitats (fins a 94%) i activitats en diferents tipus de substrat utilitzant baixes concentracions de catalitzador i sense excés de lligand.El capítol 6 descriu l'aplicació de les tres famílies de compostos (L1-L11) com a lligands en la reacció d'addició 1,4 catalitzada per coure de compostos organometàl·lics a diferents enones amb diferents propietats estèriques. L'ús de les llibreries de compostos fosfit-oxazolina (L1-L5) i fosfit-fosforamidit (L6) han proporcionat bones enantioselectivitats (fins a 78%) en l'addició de reactius de trialquilalumini a diferents enones. En canvi, la llibreria de compostos monofosfit (L7-L11) ha mostrat bones activitats però enantioselectivitats fins a 57%., The growing demand for enantiomerically pure compounds for the development of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals and flavors has captured the interest of the chemist in the last few decades. Of the various methods for producing enantiopure compounds, enantioselective homogeneous metal catalysis is an attractive one. In this context, carbohydrates have many advantages: they are readily available, are highly functionalized and have several stereogenic centers. This enables series of chiral ligands to be synthesized and screened in the search for high activities and selectivities for each particular reaction. In this context, this thesis focuses on the development of new chiral ligand libraries derived from carbohydrates, the synthesis of new catalyst precursors and their application in the Pd-catalyzed asymmetric allylic substitution, Pd-catalyzed asymmetric Heck reactions, Ni-catalyzed asymmetric addition of trialkylaluminium to aldehydes, and Cu-catalyzed asymmetric 1,4-conjugated addition of trialkylaluminium reagents to enones. For this porpose, we have designed and syntezied 3 new sugar based ligand libraries: phosphite-oxazoline (L1-L5), phosphite-phosphoroamidite (L6) i monophosphite (L7-L11) (Figure 1). After introduction (Chapter 1) and objectives (Chapter 2), in chapter 3 is discussed the synthesis and characterization of the ligand libraries (L1-L11) and and their application in the asymetric Pd-catalyzed allylic substituion reactions. Using phosphite-oxazoline ligands (L1-L5) we observed important effects of the oxazoline substituents and the axial chirality and the substituents of the biaryl moieties. However, the effects of these parameters depended on each substrate. High enantioselectivities (up to 99%) and good activities have been achieved in a wide range of substrates with different steric and electronic properties. The study of the Pd-1,3-diphenyl, 1,3-dimethyl and 1,3-cyclohexenyl allyl intermediates by NMR spectroscopy made it possible to understand the catalytic behaviour observed. This study also indicated that the nucleophilic attack takes place predominantly at the allylic terminal carbon atom located trans to the phosphite moiety. Figura 1. Asymmetric substitution reactions with catalyst precursors containing the phosphite-phosphoroamidite ligands showed that enantiomeric excesses depend strongly on the substituents at the para positions of the biphenyl moieties. However, these effects were different depending on the substrate in study. Enantiomeric excesses of up to 89% with high activities were obtained for rac-1,3-diphenyl-3-acetoxyprop-1-ene, rac-(E)-ethyl-2,5-dimethyl-3-hex-4-enylcarbonate and rac-3-acetoxycycloheptene. For the monosubstituted linear substrate 1-(1-naphthyl)allyl acetate, these ligands proved to be inadequate in terms of regioselectivities. However, we obtained good enantioselectivity by carefully selecting the substituents on the para position of the biphenyl moieties (ee's up to 72%). If we compare these results with those from the catalyst precursors containing the previous phosphite-oxazoline ligands (L1-L5), we found that the replacement of the oxazoline moiety by a phosphoroamidite group decreased enantioselectivities and versatibility. Asymmetric allylic alkylation with catalyst precursors containing the sugar-based monophosphite ligand library showed that the catalytic performance is highly affected by the size of the sugar backbone, the configurations at C-3 and C-4 of the ligand backbone and the type of substituents/configurations in the biaryl phosphite moiety. Low-to-moderate enantioselectivities (up to 46%) were obtained. In the asymmetric Pd-catalyzed Heck reactions (Chapter 4) with catalysts precursors based on phosphite-oxazoline ligands, we obtained excellent activities (up to 100% conversion in 10 minutes), regio- (up to >99%) and enantioselectivities (up to 99%) were obtained in a wide range of substrates and triflate sources. In the asymmetric Ni-catalyzed 1,2-addition of trialkylaluminium to aldehydes (Chpater 5) with catalysts precursors based on phosphite-oxazoline and phosphite-phosphoroamidite ligands, we found that the selectivity depends strongly on the type of functional group attached to the carbohydrate backbone, on the steric properties of the oxazoline substituents and on the substrate structure. Enantioselectivities up to 59% were obtained using the catalyst precursor containing the phosphite-oxazoline ligand L3a. In contrast to what we observed with the previous two ligand libraries, using sugar-based monophosphite ligands (L7-L11) provides high enantioselectivities (up to 94% ee) and activities in different substrate types, with low catalysts loadings and without excess of ligand. In Chapter 6, we described the phosphite-oxazoline and phosphite-phosphoroamidite ligands as chiral auxiliaries in the asymmetric Cu-catalyzed 1,4-conjugated addition of trialkylaluminium reagents to several enones provides good enantioselectivities (up to 80% ee). In the asymmetric Cu-catalyzed asymmetric 1,4-conjugated addition of trialkylaluminium reagents to several enones with catalysts precursors based on sugar monophosphite ligands, we found good activites and enantioselectivities up to 57% ee.

La reacció d'acoblament d'enolats de cetona i halurs de vinil catalitzada per Pd(0) va ser descrita per Piers l'any 1990. Tot i semblar una metodologia molt adequada per a la preparació de sistemes policíclics ha restat ignorada durant llarg temps, i els pocs exemples que s'hi troben només descriuen l'α-alquenilació de cetones.En aquesta Tesi, i com a continuació dels treballs realitzats en el grup d'investigació sobre l'acoblament intramolecular d'enolats de cetona i halurs de vinil o d'aril catalitzat per Pd(0) en sistemes nitrogenats, s'ha estudiat la reacció sobre un altre nucleòfil de tipus enolat com són els nitronats β,γ-insaturats.La realització d'aquest estudi metodològic ha constatat que el procés pretès és de gran complexitat. No obstant, s'ha pogut dur a terme satisfactòriament l'acoblament intramolecular dels nitronats β,γ-insaturats tant amb halurs de vinil com d'aril, ja que s'han trobat unes condicions de reacció, i que usen PhOK com a base, molt adequades per aquest tipus de processos.Per aquest motiu, es va decidir estudiar l'ús del PhOK com a base en acoblaments intramoleculars d'enolats de cetona i halurs de vinil, i posteriorment es va fer extensiu a altres sistemes com els èsters i nitrils, precursors d'espècies aniòniques estabilitzades. Els resultats obtinguts per l'ús d'aquesta base han estat molt satisfactoris, ja que s'eviten que els processos laterals competeixin amb l'acoblament, i la quantitat de catalitzador pot ser reduïda. A més, aquesta reacció esdevé molt reproduïble i sense necessitat de prendre precaucions especials (podent ser realitzada en presència d'aigua). El fenòxid podria tenir una funció addicional a la de base, tal i com es veu en un treball d'en Buchwald, on utilitza el PhOH com additiu en reaccions d'arilació de cetones. Així, en la línia del que ell proposa creiem en l'existència d'un intermedi estable pal·ladi-fenòxid que faciliti l'enolització dels compostos mitjançant la coordinació del grup carbonil del substrat de partida.Els treballs existents sobre l'alquenilació d'enolats de cetona permeten concloure que les condicions de reacció desenvolupades en aquesta Tesi Doctoral són les més generals descrites fins el moment.En una segona part d'aquesta Memòria, s'aplica la metodologia d'alquenilació de cetones catalitzada per Pd(0) amb èxit en la preparació d'intermedis avançats en la síntesi dels alcaloides naturals estricnopivotina i calicifilina A., "Pd(0)-CATALYZED INTRAMOLECULAR ALKENYLATION OF KETONE ENOLATES OR RELATED NUCLEOPHILES. SYNTHETIC APPROXIMATIONS TO STRYCHNOPIVOTINE AND CALYCIPHYILLINE A"Pd(0)-catalyzed coupling of ketone enolates and vinyl halides was first described by Piers in 1990. Although this methodology could be considered as a very important tool in organic synthesis for the construction of polycyclic systems it has received very little attention, and the few examples of these processes so far reported only deal with the α-alkenylation of ketone enolates.In this Thesis, the work of the research group is built upon the development of palladium-catalyzed intramolecular coupling of amino-tethered vinyl or aryl halides and ketone enolates, by the study of the intramolecular coupling of β,γ-unsaturated nitronates and vinyl or aryl halides.This methodological study has shown that this kind of coupling is not trivial. However, we have found a general conditions which allows the coupling of β,γ-unsaturated nitronates and vinyl or aryl halides. The conditions use PhOK as the base for the process.For this reason, we decided to explore the use of the PhOK in other enolate-type nucleophiles in Pd(0)-catalyzed couplings. The results obtained for the coupling of vinyl halides and ketones, esters or nitriles with PhOK as the base were completed successfully. Side reactions were avoided and the amount of palladium could be reduced. Furthermore, the reaction is quite reproducible and no special precautions are needed for the cyclization process making it easy to carry out in practice. In line with Buchwald's proposal we believe the base may have an extra function leading to the existence of a palladium phenoxide complex that could stabilize and facilitate the deprotonation by coordination of the carbonyl group of the starting material.A second goal in this thesis was to apply the aforementioned methodology to the preparation of advanced intermediates in the synthesis of the natural products Strychnopivotine and Calyciphylline A.

Aquesta tesi doctoral es basa en l'estudi de l'aplicació en catàlisi de dos tipus de complexos organometallics basats en dos metalls de tansició diferents. Concretament s'estudien complexos macrocíclics triolefínics de pal·ladi(0) com a catalitzadors per a les reaccions de Suzuki i Heck, i oxocomplexos carbènics de ruteni(II) com a espècies catalítiques en oxidacions de compostos orgànics. En el cas dels complexos de ruteni s'ha vist que en augmentar el nombre de lligands carbènics en l'esfera de coordinació del metall s'aconseguiex afavorir els processos bielectrònics, obtenint-se catalitzadors més actius i més selectius.En un segon pas, els dos tipus de catalitzadors homogenis s'han immobilitzat sobre la superfície d'un elèctrode mitjançant l'estratègia d'electropolimerització del grup pirrol. Els elèctodes modificats resultants s'han aplicat com a catalitzadors heterogenis. En ambdós casos els catalitzadors heterogenis han mostrat una activitat equiparable o superior a la del sistema homogeni corresponent.Finalment, s'ha assajat una reacció de catàlisi tàndem en què els dos catalitzadors (immobilitzats sobre el mateix elèctrode) actuen en cooperació. S'ha aconseguit realitzar dues transformacions consecutives d'un substat orgànic., This thesis studies the application in catalysis of two types of organometallic complexes based on two different transition metals. Concretely, we have studied the application of palladium triolefinic macrocyclic complexes as catalysts in the Suzuki and Heck reactions, and the application of ruthenium carbenic aquacomplexes as catalysts in the oxidation of organic substrates. For Ru complexes we have seen that the more carbenic groups in the coordination sphere, the more favored is a bielectronic process, that meaning a better catalytic activity and selectivity.In a second step, both catalysts have been immobilized on an elecctrode surface by pyrrole electropolymerization. The resulting modified electrodes have been used as heterogeneous catalysts, showing a similar or a better activity that the corresponding homogeneous systems.Finally, We have designed and tested a tandem reaction with both catalysts (immobilized on the same electrode) acting in cooperation. We have been able to realize two consecutive transformations of an organic substrate.

By carefully mixing Pd metal nanoparticles with CeO2 polycrystalline powder under dry conditions, an unpredicted arrangement of the Pd-O-Ce interface is obtained in which an amorphous shell containing palladium species dissolved in ceria is covering a core of CeO2 particles. The robust contact that is generated at the nanoscale, along with mechanical forces generated during mixing, promotes the redox exchange between Pd and CeO2 and creates highly reactive and stable sites constituted by PdOx embedded into CeO2 surface layers. This specific arrangement outperforms conventional Pd/CeO2 reference catalysts in methane oxidation by lowering light-off temperature by more than 50°C and boosting the reaction rate. The origin of the outstanding activity is traced to the structural properties of the interface, modified at the nanoscale by mechanochemical interaction.
