To test the hypotheses that multigenerational predation risk favors clones with longer postero-lateral spines and a larger body, and that fitness consequences of selection depend on both tested fitness variables and selection intensity, we expose replicate Brachionus dorcas populations in low (LK) and high (HK) concentrations of Asplanchna kairomones. Over 60 days (23 asexual generations) of selection, LK-selected populations showed the highest equilibrium population densities, and median mictic ratios and postero-lateral spine lengths, and HK-selected populations showed the lowest equilibrium population densities, the highest mictic ratios, and the longest postero-lateral spines, among all the control and treatment populations. In the absence of Asplanchna kairomones, and compared with populations with the control selection history, populations with an LK selection history showed increased growth rates/intrinsic rates of population increase and net reproductive rates, but decreased mictic ratios, indicating three fitness gains and a fitness cost; and those with an HK selection history showed increased life expectancy at hatching and mictic ratios, but decreased growth rates, indicating two fitness gains and a fitness cost. Asplanchna kairomones might increase the heritability of higher equilibrium densities or mictic ratios, and longer postero-lateral spines, and thus enable the prey to survive predation. The ultrasonic vibration-assisted polishing (UVAP) method, a recently developed advanced processing technology, is widely used in the processing of brittle materials. This study uses molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to investigate the polishing behavior of diamond grits on SiC workpieces during the UVAP process. The frequency (fz), amplitude (Az), and dimensions of the vibration are varied to investigate various aspects of the material removal process. In the low-frequency region, the UVAP processing method exacerbates taper slips and dislocations in the workpiece. In the high-frequency region, fz and Az can improve the MRR by more than 32% and reach 2–4 times higher than that of traditional scratching, respectively. The surface morphology obtained using MD simulation is consistent with the experimental results. In the ultrasonic elliptical vibration assisted polishing (UEVAP) method, fy not only causes a periodic and stable increase in temperature, which helps to transform atoms into an amorphous structure, but it also increases material removal rate (MRR) while decreasing friction factor and surface roughness. Appropriate increase of fz reduces forces and improves stress distribution. Az significantly increases MRR but results in a rough surface. In comparison to the UVAP process, the UEVAP method further improves MRR and produces smoother machined surfaces. The interaction and infiltration behavior between typical calcium–ferrum–alumina–silicate (CFAS) and Yb4Hf3O12 ceramics at 1300, 1400, and 1500°C for different duration times were investigated. At 1300°C, the CFAS melt first crystallized and then generated massive anorthite with high‐melting point, reducing the wettability of CFAS melt and physically blocking CFAS penetration paths. As the temperature increased to 1400°C and 1500°C, the wettability of the molten CFAS correspondingly increases. A continuous reaction layer, composed of apatite, fluorite, and garnet, was formed over Yb4Hf3O12 ceramic due to the penetration of CFAS melt. Furthermore, the infiltration rate of CFAS decreases with increasing corrosion time because of the barrier effect primarily derived from the as‐mentioned continuous reaction layer. To test the hypothesis that non-consumptive predation pressures favor genotypes that have higher equilibrium densities or mictic ratios, we expose replicate populations of the rotifer Brachionus angularis to low (LK) and high (HK) concentrations of predator Asplanchna kairomones. Over 75 days (25 asexual generations) of selection, LK-treated populations have higher equilibrium densities and lower mictic ratios than the control populations. The opposite occurs for HK-treated populations. These results suggest that compared with the control, LK and HK select for genotypes with higher equilibrium densities and mictic ratios, respectively. Common garden bioassays reveal that in the absence of Asplanchna kairomones, populations with an LK selection history have a higher average intrinsic rate of population increase, and those with an HK selection history have a higher average mictic ratio than those with the control selection history, which suggest that adaptations to LK and HK increase average intrinsic rate of population increase and mictic ratio of prey populations, respectively. Increased intrinsic rate of population increase and mictic ratio can serve as strategies of offsetting mortality from predation and escaping the predator, and thus enable prey to survive low and high predation pressures, respectively. Objective: The optimal repair method for bursal‐side partial‐thickness rotator cuff tears (PTRCTs) involving >50% of the thickness remains a controversial topic. The study was aimed to compare the functional and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) outcomes after in situ repair or tear completion before repair of bursal‐side PTRCTs. Methods: A retrospective clinical study was conducted involving 58 patients who underwent in situ repair or tear completion before repair of bursal‐side PTRCTs between January 2019 and December 2020. These patients were divided into two groups: the in situ repair group and the tear completion before repair group. Functional assessment consisted of active range of motion (ROM), visual analog scale (VAS), American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score, and Constant–Murley score. The percentages of patients in each group achieving the minimal clinical important difference (MCID) of the functional scores were determined. The healing status of the rotator cuff was assessed by postoperative MRI. Results: There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of demographic data. The mean follow‐up period was 14.53 ± 2.64 months in the in situ repair group and 15.40 ± 2.66 months in the tear completion before repair group. At the final follow‐up, the forward elevation, external rotation, and internal rotation improved significantly in both groups. The VAS, ASES score, and Constant–Murley score improved significantly in the in situ repair group (5.17 ± 2.00 points to 0.11 ± 0.41 points, p = 0.001; 44.04 ± 17.40 points to 95.47 ± 4.32 points, p = 0.001; 49.50 ± 14.38 points to 93.50 ± 3.49 points, p = 0.001) and in the tear completion before repair group (5.43 ± 3.32 points to 0.03 ± 0.18 points, p = 0.001; 41.50 ± 19.59 points to 95.94 ± 2.68 points, p = 0.001; 47.54 ± 17.13 points to 93.97 ± 2.61 points, p = 0.001). Postoperative MRI revealed that the re‐tear rate was 7.1% (2/28) in the in situ repair group and 3.3% (1/30) in the tear completion before repair group. No significant differences were observed in terms of the functional scores, the percentages of patients achieving the MCID of the functional scores, and the re‐tear rate between the two groups (p > 0.05). Conclusions: Both in situ repair and tear completion before repair yielded satisfactory clinical outcomes for patients with bursal‐side PTRCTs. Soil salinization is a growing issue that limits agriculture globally. Understanding the mechanism underlying salt tolerance in halophytic grasses can provide new insights into engineering plant salinity tolerance in glycophytic plants. Seashore paspalum (Paspalum vaginatum Sw.) is a halophytic turfgrass and genomic model system for salt tolerance research in cereals and other grasses. However, the salt tolerance mechanism of this grass largely unknown. To explore the correlation between Na+ accumulation and salt tolerance in different tissues, we utilized two P. vaginatum accessions that exhibit contrasting tolerance to salinity. To accomplish this, we employed various analytical techniques including ICP-MS-based ion analysis, lipidomic profiling analysis, enzyme assays, and integrated transcriptomic and metabolomic analysis. Under high salinity, salt-tolerant P. vaginatum plants exhibited better growth and Na+ uptake compared to salt-sensitive plants. Salt-tolerant plants accumulated heightened Na+ accumulation in their roots, leading to increased production of root-sourced H2O2, which in turn activated the antioxidant systems. In salt-tolerant plants, metabolome profiling revealed tissue-specific metabolic changes, with increased amino acids, phenolic acids, and polyols in roots, and increased amino acids, flavonoids, and alkaloids in leaves. High salinity induced lipidome adaptation in roots, enhancing lipid metabolism in salt-tolerant plants. Moreover, through integrated analysis, the importance of amino acid metabolism in conferring salt tolerance was highlighted. This study significantly enhances our current understanding of salt-tolerant mechanisms in halophyte grass, thereby offering valuable insights for breeding and genetically engineering salt tolerance in glycophytic plants. An 8-week feeding trial was conducted to investigate the effects of C. butyricum on the growth performance, microbiota, immunity response, and disease resistance in hybrid grouper fed with cottonseed protein concentrate (CPC) replacement of fishmeal. Six groups of isonitrogenous and isolipid diets were formulated including a positive control group (50% fishmeal, PC), a negative control group (CPC replaced 50% of fishmeal protein, NC), and Clostridium butyricum supplemented with 0.05% (C1, 5 × 10 8 CFU/kg), 0.2% (C2, 2 × 10 9 CFU/kg), 0.8% (C3, 8 × 10 9 CFU/kg), and 3.2% (C4, 3.2 × 10 10 CFU/kg), respectively, to the NC group. The results showed that weight gain rate and specific growth rate were significantly higher in the C4 group than that in the NC group (P < 0.05). After supplementation with C. butyricum, the amylase, lipase, and trypsin activities were significantly higher than the NC group (P < 0.05 ; except group C1), and the same results were obtained for intestinal morphometry. The intestinal proinflammatory factors were significantly downregulated, and the anti-inflammatory factors were significantly upregulated in the C3 and C4 groups compared with the NC group after supplementation with 0.8%-3.2% C. butyricum (P < 0.05). At the phylum level, the PC, NC, and C4 groups were dominated by the Firmicutes and the Proteobacteria. At the genus level, the relative abundance of Bacillus in the NC group was lower than that in the PC and C4 groups. After supplementation with C. butyricum, grouper in the C4 group showed significantly higher resistance to V. harveyi than the NC group (P < 0.05). Above all, taking into account the effects of immunity and disease resistance, it was recommended to supplement 3.2% C. butyricum in the diet of grouper fed the replacement of 50% fishmeal protein by CPC. Silver nanoclusters (Ag NCs) are nanoscale aggregates that possess molecular-like discrete energy levels, resulting in electronic configuration-dependent tunable luminescence spanning the entire visible range. Benefiting from the efficient ion exchange capacity, nanometer dimensional cages, and high thermal and chemical stabilities, zeolites have been employed as desirable inorganic matrices to disperse and stabilize Ag NCs. This paper reviewed the recent research progresses on the luminescence properties, spectral manipulation, as well as the theoretical modelling of electronic structure and optical transition of Ag NCs confined inside various zeolites with different topology structures. Furthermore, potential applications of the zeolite-encaged luminescent Ag NCs in lighting, gas monitoring and sensing were presented. The mullite and ytterbium disilicate (β‐Yb2Si2O7) powders as starting materials for the Yb2Si2O7/mullite/SiC tri‐layer coating are synthesized by a sol–gel method. The effect of SiC whiskers on the anti‐oxidation properties of Yb2Si2O7/mullite/SiC tri‐layer coating for C/SiC composites in the air environment is deeply studied. Results show that the formation temperature and complete transition temperature of mullite were 800–1000 and 1300°C, respectively. Yb2SiO5, α‐Yb2Si2O7, and β‐Yb2Si2O7 were gradually formed between 800 and 1000°C, and Yb2SiO5 and α‐Yb2Si2O7 were completely transformed into β‐Yb2Si2O7 at a temperature above 1200°C. The weight loss of Yb2Si2O7/(SiCw–mullite)/SiC tri‐layer coating coated specimens was 0.15 × 10−3 g cm−2 after 200 h oxidation at 1400°C, which is lower than that of Yb2Si2O7/mullite/SiC tri‐layer coating (2.84 × 10−3 g cm−2). The SiC whiskers in mullite middle coating can not only alleviate the coefficient of thermal expansion difference between mullite middle coating and β‐Yb2Si2O7 outer coating, but also improve the self‐healing performance of the mullite middle coating owing to the self‐healing aluminosilicate glass phase formed by the reaction between SiO2 (oxidation of SiC whiskers) and mullite particles. The immunotherapy efficacy on pancreatic cancer remains unsatisfactory. Therefore, it is still necessary to further clarify the pancreatic immune cell infiltration and search for immune-related prognostic indicators. We analyzed the 135 pancreatic cancer patients' data retrieved from the TCGA database for the immune cell infiltration, tumor microenvironment score and the correlation of the immune cells, followed by identification of prognostic immune clusters and genes clusters. The R language was used for the immune score calculation, and immune cells proportion related survival differences identification. The function of immune cells was verified through datasets in the GEO database and in vivo experiments. The results showed that M0 Macrophages had negative relations to CD8 + T cells and immune scores. There were differences in median survival in ICI clusters, gene clusters, and immune score groups (p < 0.05). M0 macrophages accounted for more than 9.8%, indicating a poor prognosis, while T cells accounted for more than 9.2%, indicating a good prognosis. In vivo results showed that M0 macrophages promote pancreatic cancer growth. Elimination of M0 macrophages may be a hopeful strategy against pancreatic cancer. • A molecular dynamics approach is used to simulate the dynamic behaviour of SiO 2 -containing droplets impacting a solid surface. • The presence of SiO 2 particles in droplet promotes the spreading of droplets, which are more easily fragmented. • The rough surface has a stronger ability to capture droplets than the smooth surface. • The minimum value of the droplet's centre-of-mass height on the smooth solid surface is linearly related to the volume fraction of SiO 2 contained in the droplet. The dynamic behaviour of droplets impacting solid surfaces exists in nature, production, and life. In this paper, for the first time, the molecular dynamics method is used to simulate capturing the behaviour of nanodroplets containing SiO 2 on solid surfaces. The dynamic behaviour of nanodroplets impacting solid surfaces is analysed when the initial falling velocity v 0 of the droplet is 0.3–1.5 nm·ps−1 and for different particle size d s , mass fraction φ s of SiO 2 , and solid surfaces with various wettability. The contact angles of droplets containing SiO 2 nanoparticles on the solid surface were measured, and the simulated values closely matched experimental results. The results show that the droplets on the smooth solid surface are completely captured after impact when v 0 = 0.3–1.1 nm·ps−1. When v 0 = 1.2–1.5 nm·ps−1, the droplet is fragmented, and the fragmentation ratio n s increases with the mass fraction φ s. The droplet fragments when v 0 = 1.4–1.5 nm·ps−1 on the rough solid surface when the ratio of the side length of the square column to the droplet diameter is 0.07, while the pure water droplet directly bounces and does not fragment. There is a linear relationship between the minimum height of the centre of mass and the mass fraction in the process of droplet impact. The maximum droplet's spreading factor value in the spreading stage β max increases with mass fraction φ s and v 0. When the spreading factor of droplets increases to β c ≈ 3.02, the droplet fragments. The droplet spreading presents the Wenzel state on the rough solid surface. Moreover, the pinning effect affects the droplet falling into the square column gap surface, hindering droplet spreading. Therefore, the rough surface has better catching ability for the droplet than the smooth surface, while the speed range that can be caught is larger. With the win-win development of tourism and the Internet, word-of-mouth ranking of tourist attractions is a valuable reference factor. We try to find a correlation between tourist reviews and taste ranking of tourist attractions. We study the sentiment features of tourist online reviews from the technical perspective of natural language processing, so we propose an improved long short-term memory (LSTM) framework for sentiment feature extraction of travel reviews. We abandon traditional dictionaries and machine learning methods. A deep neural network approach was chosen to decompose multisentiment travel reviews into different morpheme levels for classification. Then, through preprocessing, text sentiment topic detection, and sentiment classification network, an accurate grasp of the sentiment features of reviews is finally achieved. To test the performance of our method, we built a web review database by crawler for experimental validation. Experimental results show that our method maintains more than 90% accuracy in comment sentiment detection, significantly outperforming dictionary methods and machine learning methods. In this research, upconversion nanocrystals incorporated with MOR zeolite composites were synthesized using the desilicated MOR zeolite as a host for the in situ growth of NaREF4 (RE = Y, Gd) Yb/Er nanocrystals. The structure and morphology of the composites were studied with XRD, XPS, and TEM measurements, and the spectral studies indicated that the subsequent thermal treatment can effectively improve the upconversion emission intensity of Er3+. By using the NaYF4:Yb/Er@DSi1.0MOR-HT composite that holds the strongest upconversion emission, a probe of UCNC@DSiMOR/BPEI was constructed with the modification of branched poly ethylenimine for the detection of Cu2+. It was indicated that the integrated emission intensity of Er3+ shows a linear dependence with the logarithm value of the Cu2+ concentration ranging from 0.1 to 10 μM. This study offered a feasible method for the construction of UCNC@zeolite composites with enhanced upconversion emission, which may have a potential application as fluorescent probes for the detection of various metal ions by adjusting the doping luminescent center. A Yb 2 Si 2 O 7 /SiC bilayer anti-oxidation coating was fabricated on the surface of C/SiC composites by the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and the combination of sol-gel and air spraying method to enhance the oxidation resistance of C/SiC composites. Results indicated that the bilayer coating can efficiently prevent the oxidation of C/SiC composites in ambient air at 1773 K for more than 100 h with slight weight loss rate of 8.12 × 10-5 g cm-2 h-1 and retained compression strength of 96.78%. Microstructure characterization revealed that the gradual densification of Yb 2 Si 2 O 7 outer coating exposed to 1773 K reduced the oxygen diffusion pathes within the Yb 2 Si 2 O 7 /SiC bilayer coating, therefore, the weight loss rate of specimens decreased as oxidation proceeded. The oxidation activation energy of bilayer coating coated C/SiC specimen was 107.73 kJ/mol during long time oxidation within the temperature range from 1573 K to 1773 K. Based on the microstructure analysis and oxidation behavior of the specimens with different exposure time of oxidation, the oxygen diffusion rate in the bilayer coating was the controlling link during the long time oxidation course. Abstract Wood plastic composites (WPCs) have emerged as environmentally benign filaments for fused deposition modeling (FDM) printing. Using WPCs filaments to print light weight and strong cellular structures could create new application potentials for WPCs and provide sustainable feedstock for cellular materials. In this research, the compression performance of FDM printed circle, square, and voronoi WPCs cellular structures were investigated using finite element simulations and compression experiments. Simulated results did not agree with experimental results due to the presence of cavities in the prints. Cavities were formed in the cellular structures with arcs and curvature. The results showed that the circle cellular structure demonstrated great fluctuations between the simulations and experimental results. The cavity porosity was also found to increase with the increase of the print line width. Further, to improve the accuracy of simulations, the cavity porosity exists in the cellular structures was considered while revising the models. After modification, square cellular models compressed the least, followed by the circle and voronoi ones, which was consistent with the experimental results. Minimizing the print line width could reduce cavity porosity. Nonetheless, thinner print line width and smaller wood fiber size in filaments will likely increase manufacturing cost and difficulty. Background: Annual ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum L.) is a commercially important, widely distributed forage crop that is used in the production of hay and silage worldwide. Drought has been a severe environmental constraint in its production. Nevertheless, only a handful of studies have examined the impact of short-term drought stress on annual ryegrass. The aim of this study was to explore how stress-induced core metabolic processes enhance drought tolerance, or adaptation to drought, in annual ryegrass. Results: We profiled the transcriptomes, proteomes, and metabolomes of two annual ryegrass genotypes: the drought-resistant genotype "Abundant 10" and drought-susceptible genotype "Adrenalin 11." We identified differentially expressed metabolites and their corresponding proteins and transcripts that are involved in 23 core metabolic processes, in response to short-term drought stress. Protein-gene-metabolite correlation networks were built to reveal the relationships between the expression of transcripts, proteins, and metabolites in drought-resistant annual ryegrass. Furthermore, integrated metabolic pathways were used to observe changes in enzymes corresponding with levels of amino acids, lipids, carbohydrate conjugates, nucleosides, alkaloids and their derivatives, and pyridines and their derivatives. The resulting omics data underscored the significance of 23 core metabolic processes on the enhancement of drought tolerance or adaptation to drought in annual ryegrass. Conclusions: The regulatory networks were inferred using MCoA and correlation analysis to reveal the relationships among the expression of transcripts, proteins, and metabolites that highlight the corresponding elements of these core metabolic pathways. Our results provide valuable insight into the molecular mechanisms of drought resistance, and represent a promising strategy toward the improvement of drought tolerance in annual ryegrass. Drought is a major abiotic stress that impairs growth and productivity of Italian ryegrass. Comparative analysis of drought responsive proteins will provide insight into molecular mechanism in Lolium multiflorum drought tolerance. Using the iTRAQ-based approach, proteomic changes in tolerant and susceptible lines were examined in response to drought condition. A total of 950 differentially accumulated proteins was found to be involved in carbohydrate metabolism, amino acid metabolism, biosynthesis of secondary metabolites, and signal transduction pathway, such as β-D-xylosidase, β-D-glucan glucohydrolase, glycerate dehydrogenase, Cobalamin-independent methionine synthase, glutamine synthetase 1a, Farnesyl pyrophosphate synthase, diacylglycerol, and inositol 1, 4, 5-trisphosphate, which might contributed to enhance drought tolerance or adaption in Lolium multiflorum. Interestingly, the two specific metabolic pathways, arachidonic acid and inositol phosphate metabolism including differentially accumulated proteins, were observed only in the tolerant lines. Cysteine protease cathepsin B, Cysteine proteinase, lipid transfer protein and Aquaporin were observed as drought-regulated proteins participating in hydrolysis and transmembrane transport. The activities of phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase, peroxiredoxin, dehydroascorbate reductase, peroxisomal ascorbate peroxidase and monodehydroascorbate reductase associated with alleviating the accumulation of reactive oxygen species in stress inducing environments. Our results showed that drought-responsive proteins were closely related to metabolic processes including signal transduction, antioxidant defenses, hydrolysis, and transmembrane transport. In this work, the corrosion behavior of Yb 4 Hf 3 O 12 ceramics under CFAS coupled with water vapor environment at 1400 °C for 2–50 h was investigated. Results show that the CFAS were rapidly dissolved into ceramics under test environment, and then the Yb-Ca-Si apatite and Hf-rich fluorite phases were re-precipitated. Simultaneously, the water vapor corrosion mainly induced grain surface corrosion, resulting in the formation of corrosion pits and ridge-like structures. The sigma1 receptor acts as a chaperone at the endoplasmic reticulum, associates with multiple proteins in various cellular systems, and involves in a number of diseases, such as addiction, pain, cancer and psychiatric disorders. The sigma1 receptor is encoded by the single copy SIGMAR1 gene. The current study identifies five alternatively spliced variants of the mouse sigma1 receptor gene using a polymerase chain reaction cloning approach. All the splice variants are generated by exon skipping or alternative 3’ or 5’ splicing, producing the truncated sigma1 receptor. Similar alternative splicing has been observed in the human SIGMAR1 gene based on the molecular cloning or genome sequence prediction, suggesting conservation of alternative splicing of SIGMAR1 gene. Using quantitative polymerase chain reactions, we demonstrate differential expression of several splice variants in mouse tissues and brain regions. When expressed in HEK293 cells, all the splice variants fail to bind sigma ligands, implicating that each truncated region in these splice variants is important for ligand binding. However, co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP) study in HEK293 cells co-transfected with tagged constructs reveals that all the splice variants maintain their ability to physically associate with a mu opioid receptor (mMOR-1), providing useful information to correlate the motifs/sequences necessary for their physical association. Furthermore, a competition Co-IP study showed that all the variants can disrupt in a dose-dependent manner the dimerization of the original sigma1 receptor with mMOR-1, suggesting a potential dominant negative function and providing significant insights into their function. The similarity-based retrieval of lung nodule computed tomography (CT) images is an important task in the computer-aided diagnosis of lung lesions. It can provide similar clinical cases for physicians and help them make reliable clinical diagnostic decisions. However, when handling large-scale lung images with a general-purpose computer, traditional image retrieval methods may not be efficient. In this paper, a new retrieval framework based on a hashing method for lung nodule CT images is proposed. This method can translate high-dimensional image features into a compact hash code, so the retrieval time and required memory space can be reduced greatly. Moreover, a pruning algorithm is presented to further improve the retrieval speed, and a pruning-based decision rule is presented to improve the retrieval precision. Finally, the proposed retrieval method is validated on 2,450 lung nodule CT images selected from the public Lung Image Database Consortium (LIDC) database. The experimental results show that the proposed pruning algorithm effectively reduces the retrieval time of lung nodule CT images and improves the retrieval precision. In addition, the retrieval framework is evaluated by differentiating benign and malignant nodules, and the classification accuracy can reach 86.62%, outperforming other commonly used classification methods. Background/Aims: Osteoporosis is a progressive bone disease characterized by a decrease in bone mass and density, which results in an increased risk of fractures. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are progenitor cells that can differentiate into osteoblasts, osteocytes and adipocytes in bone and fat formation. A reduction in the differentiation of MSCs into osteoblasts contributes to the impaired bone formation observed in osteoporosis. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play a regulatory role in osteogenesis and MSC differentiation. MiR-27a has been reported to be down-regulated in the development of osteoporosis and during adipogenic differentiation. Methods: In this study, a miRNA microarray analysis was used to investigate expression profiles of miRNA in the serum of osteoporotic patients and healthy controls and this data was validated by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR). MSCs isolated from human and mice with miR-27a inhibition or overexpression were induced to differentiate into osteoblasts or adipocytes. TargetScan and PicTar were used to predict the target gene of miR- 27a. The mRNA or protein levels of several specific proteins in MSCs were detected using qRT-PCR or western blot analysis. Ovariectomized mice were used as in vivo model of human postmenopausal osteoporosis for bone mineral density measurement, micro-CT analysis and histomorphometric analysis. Results: Here, we analyzed the role of miR-27a in bone metabolism. Microarray analysis indicated that miR-27a expression was significantly reduced in osteoporotic patients. Analysis on MSCs derived from patients with osteoporosis indicated that osteoblastogenesis was reduced, whereas adipogenesis was increased. MSCs that had undergone osteoblast induction showed a significant increase in miR-27a expression, whereas cells that had undergone adipocyte induction showed a significant decrease in miR-27a expression, indicating that miR-27a was essential for MSC differentiation. We demonstrated that myocyte enhancer factor 2 c (Mef2c), a transcription factor, was the direct target of miR- 27a using a dual luciferase assay. An inverse relationship between miR-27a expression and Mef2c expression in osteoporotic patients was shown. Silencing of miR-27a decreased bone formation, confirming the role of miR-27a in bone formation in vivo. Heterogeneous nucleation is a frequently encountered phenomenon in the crystallization of inorganic nanoparticle/polymer systems, and has a great influence on the morphology and properties (such as optical, mechanical and degradable properties) of the nanocomposites. In this study, a solution casting method was adopted to fabricate CdSe–ZnS quantum dots (QDs)/poly(lactic acid) (PLA) nanocomposites films of various QDs concentrations by using chloroform as the solvent. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, polarized optical microscopy (POM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and X-ray diffractometry (XRD) were used to characterize the crystallization behavior of the nanocomposites films that had been thermally treated differently from the as-cast state. The FT-IR and POM results showed that the nucleation density and the crystallization ability of PLA are greatly enhanced with addition of the QDs in the processes of isothermal crystallization at 403 K. The results of DSC revealed that the glass transition temperature of PLA has no obvious change with the addition of QDs. For the QDs/PLA samples which were isothermally annealed at 403 K for 30 min, the degree of (melt) crystallinity increased with increase of QD concentrations in the PLA matrix. All the results obtained from FT-IR spectroscopy, POM, DSC, and XRD were consistent, suggesting that the CdSe–ZnS QDs can serve as an efficient heterogeneous nucleating agent for the acceleration and enhancement of the melt crystallization of PLA at the optimized condition. Molecular and density distributions of the lubricant, pentaerythritol tetraheptanoate (PEC7), confined to a nanogap were investigated using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations at various temperatures, initial film thicknesses and pressures. All of the simulated film thicknesses were less than 10 nm. The PEC7 molecular orientation and density profiles were analyzed, and the simulated densities were compared with empirical bulk fluid densities. The results show that the PEC7 atoms tend to form two or three layers near every confining wall, but the PEC7 molecules orient randomly throughout the film. The lubricant density profiles are found to fluctuate frequently, and the distances between the layers of lubricant atoms are irregular. Furthermore, the equivalent density is lower for films with a thinner initial film at the same pressure and temperature, but the compressibility is similar for films with different initial film thicknesses. The simulated densities with an initial film thickness of 9.32 nm are in agreement with the values obtained from the Tammann–Tait equation, with deviations less than 5%. The MD simulation can not only predict the bulk compressibility of the lubricant but also provide information on the density and molecular distribution within a thin film, which cannot be obtained from experiments. Background: Antiretroviral therapy (ART) is currently the most effective way to treat people living with human immunodeficiency virus (PLHs) and reduce HIV transmission. While there are many factors that reduce adherence to ART, PLHs' knowledge about ART may determine the level of adherence. It is necessary to design and assess an instrument scale that measures the knowledge of antiretroviral therapy among PLHs. Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted among PLHs in Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, China. Both exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were used to examine the latent factors of antiretroviral therapy knowledge scale. Internal consistency was assessed separately for the scale and its dimensions by estimating Cronbach's alphas, split-half reliability and Spearman's correlation coefficient. ANOVAs were used to compare the scores of different dimensions with sociodemographic characteristics. Results: Four factors were extracted according to factor loadings. They had high internal consistency reliability (Cronbach's alpha: 0.70–0.95) and good construct validity (standardized factor loading range: 0.46–0.86) in the scale. Goodness of fit indices indicated that a four-factor solution fit the data at an accepted level (χ2/degree ratio = 1.980, RMSEA = 0.069, GFI = 0.909, CFI = 0.957, NFI = 0.917, TLI = 0.944). ANOVAs indicated that the score was higher among PLHs who were Han, had spouses/partners, were non-famers or migrant workers, initiated ART, and had a high school or above education. Conclusion: The psychometric assessment indicated that this ART knowledge scale had accepted internal consistency and discriminant construct validity. Abstract: Cutting fluid may be considered an accessory which is frequently applied in order to increase material remove rate especially in cutting aerospace alloys where cutting temperature is very high. However the use of cutting fluids is nowadays limited due to the adverse effects such as health of the operator, environmental and economic reasons. In order to overcome these negative effects and meet the demand for environment-friendly cutting techniques, in this work, dry cutting is associated to compare the machinability of the two types of tools such as variable and uniform pitch tools in milling aeronautical thin-wall material Ti6Al4V. The experimental results have shown that the tool vibration is decreased obviously with variable pitch tool compared with uniform pitch tool during milling process of titanium alloy thin-part components. Predator–prey interactions play major and direct roles in the structuring of zooplankton communities. Asplanchna usually predates ciliates, rotifers, cladocerans and sometimes even copepods, its predation may drive not only the ecological, but also the evolutionary dynamics of prey populations. In the present study, the life-table demography and the population growth of Asplanchna brightwelli were investigated at four temperatures (16, 20, 24 and 28°C) using Brachionus angularis as prey at four densities (10, 20, 30 and 40 ind.mL−1). The results showed that temperature affected significantly all the life-table demographic parameters (age-specific survivorship and fecundity, average lifespan, life expectancy at hatching, generation time, net reproductive rate and intrinsic rate of population increase) and the population growth rate obtained from the population growth studies, prey density affected the generation time, the net reproductive rate, the intrinsic rate of population increase and the population growth rate, and the interaction between temperature and prey density affected the generation time and the population growth rate. Both the average lifespan and the life expectancy at hatching were the longest at 16°C, the generation times were longer at lower temperatures (16 and 20°C) and higher prey densities (30 and 40 ind.mL−1), the net reproductive rates were higher at lower temperatures (16 and 20°C) and 20–40 ind.mL−1 of B. angularis, and the population growth rates were higher at 20°C under 20–40 ind.mL−1 of B. angularis. Background: The health workers in Jiaxing of China have established maternal health WeChat groups for maternal health education and management since 2019. Pregnant women in Jiaxing are invited to join the WeChat groups and a health worker as the group manager provides health education and individual counselling for women within the group. This study aimed to investigate the exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) status up to six months and its associated factors among the mothers of infants aged 7-12 months within the WeChat groups. Methods: This was a cross-sectional survey on healthy mothers with infants aged 7-12 months from seven maternal health WeChat groups in October 2021 in Jiaxing, China. EBF was defined as breastfeeding infants exclusively up to six months. Data including breastfeeding practice from birth to six months, maternal sociodemographic and obstetric characteristics, hospitalization information, work related factors and reasons for non-EBF up to six months were collected using an online self-administered questionnaire. A multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the factors independently associated with EBF up to 6 months. Results: A total of 822 mothers were included in this study. Among them, 586 mothers (71.3%) exclusively breastfed infants up to six months. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that older maternal age (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] 0.956; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.917, 0.997) and perceived insufficient breast milk (AOR 0.104; 95% CI 0.072, 0.149) were associated with lower odds of EBF up to six months. The five of common reasons for non-EBF up to six months were no or insufficient breast milk (59.8%), return to work (23.9%), no flexible nursing breaks at work (18.2 %), infant crying or feeling tired or troubled with breastfeeding (9.7%), and nipple and breast problems (9.3%). Conclusion: About 71.3% of infants were exclusively breastfed until six months of age in our WeChat groups. Perceived insufficient breast milk and work related factors are the main barriers to EBF up to six months in this setting. Background: As postmenopausal osteoporotic fractures can cause higher rates of disability and mortality in women; it is essential to analyze the factors associated with primary and recurrent fractures in postmenopausal osteoporosis (PMOP) patients.Methods: Retrospective analysis of 2478 PMOP patients aged ≥ 50 years who attended the Shanghai General Hospital from January 2007 to December 2016, including 1239 patients with no fractures and 1239 patients with histories of fractures (1008 in the primary fracture group and 231 in the re-fracture group). All patients' basic clinical data, serum biochemical and bone metabolic markers, bone mineral density (BMD), and other indicators were recorded uniformly. Comparing the differences between the clinical characteristics of patients with primary and recurrent fractures, as well as the differences in the clinical characteristics of patients with primary and recurrent fractures in combination with different diseases, further analyses the risk factors for primary and recurrent fractures in PMOP patients. SPSS.26 was used for statistical analysis.Results: Compared to the unfractured group, the fractured group was older and had lower height and bone mineral density (all P < 0.01), with the re-fractured group having lower BMD at each key site than the primary fracture group (all P < 0.01). Analysis of the combined disease subgroups showed that serum BGP levels were lower in the primary and re-fracture patients with diabetes than in the non-diabetic subgroup (P < 0.05), and serum CTX levels were lower in the re-fracture group with diabetes than in the primary fracture group with diabetes (P < 0.05). Patients with recurrent fractures with cardio-vascular diseases had lower BMD than the subgroup without cardio-vascular diseases (P < 0.05) and also had lower BMD than the group with primary fractures with cardio-vascular diseases (P < 0.05). Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that advanced age, overweight, low lumbar spine and total hip BMD were risk factors for primary and recurrent fractures; and comorbid chronic liver and kidney diseases were risk factors for primary fractures.Conclusion: PMOP patients with advanced age, overweight, low bone mineral density, and comorbid chronic liver and kidney diseases are at greater risk of fractures and require early intervention to reduce fractures occurrence. Faujasite zeolites with a regular micropore and mesopore structure have been considered desirable scaffolds to stabilize luminescent silver nanoclusters (Ag CLs), while turning of the emission properties of the confined Ag CLs is still under investigation. In this study, the desilicated and dealuminated faujasite zeolites were first prepared to modify the zeolite framework and Si/Al ratio before Ag+ loading. With thermal treatment on the thereafter Ag+-exchanged zeolites, the Ag CLs formatted inside the D6r cages showed red-shifted emission in the desilicated zeolites and blue-shifted emission in the dealuminated zeolites, so that a tunable emission in the wavelength range of 482–528 nm could be obtained. Meanwhile, the full width at half maximum of the emission spectra is also closely related with framework modification, which monotonously increases with enhancing Si/Al ratio of host zeolite. The XRD, XPS, and spectral measurements indicated that the tunable luminescence properties of Ag CLs result from the controlling of local crystal field and coupling between host lattice and luminescent center. This paper proposes an effective strategy to manipulate the emission properties of Ag CLs confined inside zeolites and may benefit the applications of noble metal clusters activated phosphors in imaging and tunable emission. Droplets impinging on solid surfaces is a common phenomenon. However, the motion of surfaces remarkably influences the dynamical behaviors of droplets, and related research is scarce. Dynamical behaviors of water nanodroplets impinging on translation and vibrating solid copper surfaces were investigated via molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. The dynamical characteristics of water nanodroplets with various Weber numbers were studied at five translation velocities, four vibration amplitudes, and five vibration periods of the surface. The results show that when water nanodroplets impinge on translation surfaces, water molecules not only move along the surfaces but also rotate around the centroid of the water nanodroplet at the relative sliding stage. Water nanodroplets spread twice in the direction perpendicular to the relative sliding under a higher surface translation velocity. Additionally, a formula for water nanodroplets velocity in the translation direction was developed. Water nanodroplets with a larger Weber number experience a heavier friction force. For cases wherein water nanodroplets impinge on vibration surfaces, the increase in amplitudes impedes the spread of water nanodroplets, while the vibration periods promote it. The "chimney rain" problem can effectively be solved by adding a secondary dehydration device inside the chimney with wet flue gas desulfurization (FGD) direct-discharged measures in coal fired power station. In order to analyze the changes of outlet moisture content and internal flow field, and to optimize the structure of device to match the dehydration capacity and working resistance, a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method was adopted to simulate the internal flow field of the chimney. Results show that after installing a secondary dehydration device the outlet moisture ratio decreases from 111 mg/m³ to 52 mg/m³; the working resistance increases in an allowable range, from 195 Pa to 699 Pa, which is below 1 200 Pa;the outlet velocity raises from 17.3 m/s to 17.6 m/s. The smoke spirals up along in wall, not along central zone ; the optimum angle of the whirl board is 42 degrees. Through the comparative analysis of actual and simulation results, the effectivity of the device and the feasibility of optimum angle were verified, and the basic laws and characteristics curves of internal flow field were also obtained. Abstract: During development, compartmentalization of an early embryonic structure produces blocks of cells with distinct properties and developmental potentials. The auditory and vestibular components of vertebrate inner ears are derived from defined compartments within the otocyst during embryogenesis. The vestibular apparatus, including three semicircular canals, saccule, utricle, and their associated sensory organs, detects angular and linear acceleration of the head and relays the information through vestibular neurons to vestibular nuclei in the brainstem. How the early developmental events manifest vestibular structures at the molecular level is largely unknown. Here, we show that LMO4, a LIM-domain-only transcriptional regulator, is required for the formation of semicircular canals and their associated sensory cristae. Targeted disruption of Lmo4 resulted in the dysmorphogenesis of the vestibule and in the absence of three semicircular canals, anterior and posterior cristae. In Lmo4-null otocysts, canal outpouches failed to form and cell proliferation was reduced in the dorsolateral region. Expression analysis of the known otic markers showed that Lmo4 is essential for the normal expression of Bmp4, Fgf10, Msx1, Isl1, Gata3, and Dlx5 in the dorsolateral domain of the otocyst, whereas the initial compartmentalization of the otocyst remains unaffected. Our results demonstrate that Lmo4 controls the development of the dorsolateral otocyst into semicircular canals and cristae through two distinct mechanisms: regulating the expression of otic specific genes and stimulating the proliferation of the dorsolateral part of the otocyst. Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) is a pathogen that causes severe abortions in sows and high piglet mortality, resulting in huge economic losses to the pig industry worldwide. The emerging and novel PRRSV isolates are clinically and biologically important, as there are likely recombination and pathogenic differences among PRRSV genomes. Furthermore, the NADC34-like strain has become a major epidemic strain in some parts of China, but the characterization and pathogenicity of the latest strain in Inner Mongolia have not been reported in detail. In this study, an NADC34-like strain (CHNMGKL1-2304) from Tongliao City, Inner Mongolia was successfully isolated and characterized, and confirmed the pathogenicity in pigs. The phylogenetic tree showed that this strain belonged to sublineage 1.5 and had high homology with the strain JS2021NADC34. There is no recombination between CHNMGKL1-2304 and any other domestic strains. Animal experiments show that the CHNMGKL1-2304 strain is moderately virulent to piglets, which show persistent fever, weight loss and high morbidity but no mortality. The presence of PRRSV nucleic acids was detected in both blood, tissues, nasal and fecal swabs. In addition, obvious pathological changes and positive signals were observed in lung, lymph node, liver and spleen tissues when subjected to hematoxylin–eosin (HE) staining and immunohistochemistry (IHC). Abstract: The vertebrate inner ear, a complex sensory organ with vestibular and auditory functions, is derived from a single ectoderm structure called the otic placode. Currently, the molecular mechanisms governing the differentiation and specification of the otic epithelium are poorly understood. We present here a detailed expression study of LMO1–4 in the developing mouse inner ear using a combination of in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry. LMO1 is specifically expressed in the vestibular and cochlear hair cells as well as the vestibular ganglia of the developing inner ear. LMO2 expression is detected in the periotic mesenchyme of the developing mouse cochlea from E12.5 to E14.5. The expression of LMO3 expression is first observed in the cochlea at E13.5 and becomes confined to the lesser epithelial ridge (LER) from E14.5 to E17.5. LMO3 is also expressed in some of the vestibular ganglion cells. LMO4 is initially expressed in the dorsolateral portion of the otic vesicle and its expression persists in the semicircular canals, macula, crista, and the spiral ganglia throughout embryogenesis. Abstract: Interdiffusion in multi-phase diffusion couples of polycrystalline Ti and polysynthetically twinned (PST) Ti–49.3at.% Al, with the diffusion direction parallel to the lamellar planes, is investigated in the temperature range 973–1173K. A reaction zone (RZ) of the α2-Ti3Al phase forms between the end materials and exhibits deeper penetration in the α2 lamellae than in the primary γ lamellae. Direct measurements of the RZ thickness reveal a parabolic growth of the RZ, indicating a diffusion-controlled growth macroscopically. Concentration profiles from the Ti, through the RZ, into the PST γ and α2 lamellae are measured by X-ray spectroscopy in a transmission electron microscope. Deviations from a diffusion-controlled composition profile indicate some extent of interface-controlled growth. Abstract: The microstructural evolution in multi-phase diffusion couples of polycrystalline Ti and polysynthetically twinned (PST) Ti–49.3at.% Al is studied, with the diffusion direction parallel to the lamellar planes. A reaction layer or reaction zone (RZ) of polycrystalline α2-Ti3Al phase, having a wavy interface with the PST Ti–Al crystal, forms along the PST/Ti bonding interface and exhibits a deeper penetration in the α2 lamellae, consisting of fine α2 and secondary γ laths, than in the primary γ lamellae. Furthermore, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy observations reveal that the RZ/PST interface at the fine α2 and secondary γ lathes is microscopically flat. The lamellar thickness and the mass balance across the RZ/PST interface are believed to be the major factors that lead to these different behaviors in the penetration depth of the RZ. A graphite exfoliation technique, using intercalation of a concentrated sulfuric/nitric acid mixture followed by a thermal shock, has successfully exfoliated a herringbone graphite nanofiber (GNF). The exfoliated GNF retains the overall nanosized dimensions of the original GNF, with the exfoliation temperature determining the degree of induced defects, lattice expansion, and resulting microstructure. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy indicated that the fibers treated at an intermediate temperature of 700 °C for 2 min had dislocations in the graphitic structure and a 4% increase in graphitic lattice spacing to 3.5 Å. The fibers treated at 1000 °C for 36 h were expanded along the fiber axis, with regular intervals of graphitic and amorphous regions ranging from 0.5 to >50 nm in width. The surface area of the starting material was increased from 47 m2/g to 67 m2/g for the 700-°C treatment and to 555 m2/g for the 1000-°C treatment. Hydrogen uptake measurements at 20 bar indicate that the overall hydrogen uptake and operative adsorption temperature are sensitive to the structural variations and graphitic spacing. The increased surface area after the 1000-°C treatment led to a 1.2% hydrogen uptake at 77 K and 20 bar, a 3-fold increase in hydrogen physisorption of the starting material. The uptake of the 700-°C-treated material had a 0.29% uptake at 300 K and 20 bar; although low, this was a 14-fold uptake over the starting material and higher than other commonly used pretreatment methods that were tested in parallel. These results suggest that selective exfoliation of a nanofiber is a means by which to control the relative binding energy of the hydrogen interaction with the carbon structure and thus vary the operative adsorption temperature. With the constant development of economy, how to reasonably allocate limited loans to enterprises has been an interesting issue. As a result, adaptive decision for optimal loan allocation schemes is well worth investigating. Although some researchers had utilized machine learning-based techniques to deal with such issue, they cannot handle well the scenarios where total capital amount is limited. To bridge such gap, this paper proposes an intelligent decision framework for loan allocation schemes in complex social systems. First of all, the expressions about profit and risk of the bank side are deduced, separately. On this basis, the dynamic planning approach is adopted to formulate a set of optimization model. Specifically, such model is established from two aspects: profit maximization and risk minimization. Hence, two groups of decision results can be reached from two different perspectives by searching optimal solution of the planning model. This work also gives a case study on a real-world dataset to present process of the planning model. Thus, two referential results are provided with use of optimization solution tool. In this paper, we explore whether interparticle spacing affects steady-state and transient-state optical properties by comparing close-packed CdSe/ZnS–quantum dots (QDs) and CdSe/ZnS–QDs dispersed in polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). High–pressure is an effective physical means to adjust the interparticle spacing of QDs, which may artificially expand the application of QDs further. The results under high–pressure indicate that it is the reduced interparticle spacing rather than the enhanced quantum confinement effect with volume compression that has a stronger effect on exciton relaxation of CdSe/ZnS–QDs. Background: Anemia is a common complication of total hip arthroplasty (THA). In this study, we evaluated the preoperative risk factors for postoperative anemia after THA and developed a nomogram model based on related preoperative and intraoperative factors. Methods: From January 2020 to May 2023, 927 THA patients at the same medical center were randomly assigned to either the training or validation cohort. The correlation between preoperative and intraoperative risk factors and postoperative anemia after THA was evaluated using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis. A nomogram was developed using these predictive variables. The effectiveness and validation for the clinical application of this nomogram were evaluated using the concordance index (C-index), receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve, calibration curve, and decision curve analysis (DCA). Results: Through univariate and multivariate logistic regression analysis, 7 independent predictive factors were identified in the training cohort: Lower body mass index (BMI), extended operation time, greater intraoperative bleeding, lower preoperative hemoglobin level, abnormally high preoperative serum amyloid A (SAA) level, history of cerebrovascular disease, and history of osteoporosis. The C-index of the model was 0.871, while the AUC indices for the training and validation cohorts were 84.4% and 87.1%, respectively. In addition, the calibration curves of both cohorts showed excellent consistency between the observed and predicted probabilities. The DCA curves of the training and validation cohorts were high, indicating the high clinical applicability of the model. Conclusions: Lower BMI, extended operation time, increased intraoperative bleeding, reduced preoperative hemoglobin level, elevated preoperative SAA level, history of cerebrovascular disease, and history of osteoporosis were seven independent preoperative risk factors associated with postoperative anemia after THA. The nomogram developed could aid in predicting postoperative anemia, facilitating advanced preparation, and enhancing blood management. As a natural macromolecule-based biomaterial, fish gelatin is used in medical materials for its low pathogen infection risk. However, because of poor mechanical properties, its application has been limited. In this study, microcrystalline cellulose-reinforced fish gelatin (FG/MCC) composite films were prepared with a biological cross-linking agent (genipin) under ultrasonic treatment. SEM micrographs showed that the smooth microstructure of FG film became increasingly disordered with the addition of MCC. The infrared spectrum analysis (FTIR) demonstrated the existence of hydrogen bond interaction between MCC and FG. Compared with the pure FG film, the tensile strength (TS) and modulus of elasticity (MOE) of composite films with MCC were improved, and the elongation at break (EAB) and swelling ratios (SR) were decreased. Ultrasonic treatment could further improve TS, MOE, and SR. When the composite film was prepared with 15% MCC and treated with ultrasound, the TS and MOE increased by 115% and 227%, respectively, while the EAB decreased by 35% and the SR decreased by 4% in comparison with pure FG films. Thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that the FG/MCC composite films were stable below 100 °C. Two-dimensional (2D) organic-inorganic hybrid Ruddlesden-Popper (RP) perovskite materials have attracted considerable attention due to their unique performance and enhanced stability for photovoltaic and photoluminescent devices. However, the optoelectronic properties of 2D all-inorganic RP perovskites remains unclear because of hard-to-experiment synthesis. Therefore, the two-dimensionality how to affect the photoelectric properties of all-inorganic perovskites remains unclear. In this study, we investigate the electrical and optical properties, including the band structures, carrier mobility, optical absorption spectra, and exciton-binding energies for newly synthesized all-inorganic 2D-layered RP perovskite Cs 2 PbI 2 Cl 2 using density functional theory. The results demonstrate the thickness-dependence of photoelectric properties in 2D-layered RP perovskite Cs 2 PbI 2 Cl 2. The carrier mobilities and absorption coefficients in the visible spectrum of Cs 2 PbI 2 Cl 2 are smaller than those of MAPbI 3 and Si crystal photovoltaic materials, whereas the exciton-binding energies increase with the decrease in the number of layers, which are obviously higher than those of MAPbI 3 and Si crystal. The results show that Cs 2 PbI 2 Cl 2 is a good material for luminescent devices rather than for photovoltaic cells. Water deficit adversely affects the growth and productivity of annual ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.). The exogenous application of chitosan (CTS) has gained extensive interests due to its effect on improving drought resistance. This research aimed to determine the role of exogenous CTS on annual ryegrass in response to water stress. Here, we investigated the impact of exogenous CTS on the physiological responses and transcriptome changes of annual ryegrass variety "Tetragold" under osmotic stress induced by exposing them to 20% polyethylene glycol (PEG)-6000. Our experimental results demonstrated that 50 mg/L exogenous CTS had the optimal effect on promoting seed germination under osmotic stress. Pre-treatment of annual ryegrass seedlings with 500 mg/L CTS solution reduced the level of electrolyte leakage (EL) as well as the contents of malondialdehyde (MDA) and proline and enhanced the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), peroxidase (POD), and ascorbic acid peroxidase (APX) under osmotic stress. In addition, CTS increased soluble sugars and chlorophyll (Chl) content, net photosynthetic rate (A), stomatal conductance (gs), water use efficiency (WUE), and transpiration rate (E) in annual ryegrass seedlings in response to three and six days of osmotic stress. Transcriptome analysis further provided a comprehensive understanding of underlying molecular mechanisms of CTS impact. To be more specific, in contrast of non-treated seedlings, the distinct changes of gene expressions of CTS-treated seedlings were shown to be tightly related to carbon metabolism, photosynthesis, and plant hormone. Altogether, exogenous CTS could elicit drought-related genes in annual ryegrass, leading to resistance to osmotic stress via producing antioxidant enzymes and maintaining intact cell membranes and photosynthetic rates. Non-powered adaptive systems are attractive in the construction of environment actuators, meteorosensitive architectures, biomedical devices, and soft robotics. Combining hydrophilic materials and anisotropic structures to mimic self-morphing plant structures has been demonstrated as an effective approach to creating artificial hygromorphs. The convenience of 3D printing technologies in shaping programmable complex structures facilitates the imitation of complex anisotropic plant structures. In this research, we constructed a bio-hygromorph using fish swim bladder hydrogel as the hydrophilic material and wood flour-filled polylactic acid (WPLA) scaffold, which was printed with fused deposition modeling (FDM) 3D printing technology (3DP). The environmental benign bio-hygromorph displayed morphing abilities triggered by moisture content changes, as the fish swim bladder hydrogel swelled and shrunk during absorption and desorption cycles. The strain disproportion of the two-layered composite structure in the bio-hygromorph drove the bending deformation. Stress analyses performed with finite element analysis (FEA) also revealed the mechanism behind the moisture content driven morphing of the bio-hygromorph. Notably, the bio-hygromorph exhibited faster response times to moisture absorption than desorption, which may donate actuators' different attributes in distinct moisture conditions. [Display omitted] The combination of upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) with porous zeolites could enable the development of multifunctional composites and extend their optical applications in sensing, detection and biomedical monitoring. Herein, a series of high luminescent UCNPs@Zeolites nano-micro composites were constructed via the in situ growth strategy, by taking the low phonon-energy fluoride nanoparticles of NaLnF 4 (Ln = Y, Gd) as doping hosts for Er3+/Yb3+, desilicated FAUY and ZSM-5 as the target zeolites. Benefiting from the formation of tightly combined interfaces between the UCNPs and the target zeolites that effectively passive the surface defects of UCNPs, three orders of magnitude of improved upconversion emission in maximum was obtained under 980 nm excitation through afterward heat treatment at 400 ℃. Moreover, the pre-exchange of Yb3+ into target zeolites before the in situ growth of UCNPs is another feasible approach to drastically improve the upconversion emission intensity of the UCNPs@Zeolites nano-micro composites. By taking NaGdF 4 :Yb,Er@DSZSM-5/HT as an example probe, the detection of GA was demonstrated and the detection ability of which is super than that of the corresponding bare NaGdF 4 :Yb,Er UCNPs. This research provided a universal approach to construct the UCNPs@Zeolites nano-micro composites with varied upconversion emission colors simply by choosing activator ions, which therefore indicates wide potential applications. In response to the challenges posed by the intricate synthesis process and low conductivity of nickel-based hydroxides, a straightforward and environmentally friendly method was proposed for the preparation of B-doped α-Ni(OH) 2 (α-Ni(OH) 2 –B). Additionally, B-doped NiS 2 @NC composites with sulfur vacancies (B-Sv-NiS 2 @NC) were prepared through nitrogen-doped carbon coating and vulcanization process. The resulting B-Sv-NiS 2 @NC electrode materials exhibited a specific capacity of 659C g−1 under a high specific potential (ΔV) of 1.0 V vs. Hg/HgO. Asymmetric supercapacitors α-Ni(OH) 2 –B//YP-80 and B-Sv-NiS 2 @NC//YP-80 were constructed and obtain 128.45C g−1 and 199.5C g−1 specific capacity at 0.5 A g−1 and 0.7 A g−1, respectively. Meanwhile, the α-Ni(OH) 2 –B//YP-80 and B-Sv-NiS 2 @NC//YP-80 demonstrated energy densities of 30.33 Wh kg−1 and 47.1 Wh kg−1 under 1.7 V working voltage window, respectively. The cycle capacity retention rates of the two devices reached 96% (8000 cycles) and 116% (10,000 cycles). The surface pseudocapacitance mechanism and charge transfer mechanism of α-Ni(OH) 2 –B and B-Sv-NiS 2 @NC were revealed by first principles DFT. The findings of the study demonstrate that the introduction of B doping significantly augmented the adsorption of OH− and facilitated the surface redox reaction. The OH− adsorption energy increased to −1.43 eV upon the incorporation of B and Sv, indicating that the adsorption of OH− on the B-Sv-NiS 2 @NC surface was more stable, thereby promoting a swift electrochemical reaction. The improved electronic structure of the material, coupled with the increased number of electrochemical active sites, resulted in enhanced OH− adsorption, accelerated redox reaction, and improved charge transfer, ultimately leading to improved electrochemical performance. In situ boron-doped flower-like NiS 2 @NC with sulfur vacancy composites were prepared through a straightforward, and environmentally-friendly method. The composites exhibit abundant active sites, enhancing storage of charge, obtained excellent electrochemical performance in 3 M KOH electrolyte. Introduction: Teaching endotracheal intubation is uniquely challenging due to its technical, high-stakes, and highly time-sensitive nature. The GoPro is a small, lightweight, high-resolution action camera with a wide-angle field of view that can encompass both the airway as well as the procedurist's hands and positioning technique when worn with a head mount. We aimed to evaluate its effectiveness in improving intubation teaching for novice learners in a simulated setting, via a two-arm, parallel group, randomized controlled superiority trial with 1:1 allocation ratio. Methods: We recruited Year 4 medical students at the start of their compulsory 2-week Anesthesia posting. Participants underwent a standardized intubation curriculum and a formative assessment, then randomized to receive GoPro or non-GoPro led feedback. After a span of three months, participants were re-assessed in a summative assessment by blinded accessors. Participants were also surveyed on their learning experience for a qualitative thematic perspective. The primary outcomes were successful intubation and successful first-pass intubation. Results: Seventy-one participants were recruited with no dropouts, and all were included in the analysis. 36 participants received GoPro led feedback, and 35 participants received non-GoPro led feedback. All participants successfully intubated the manikin. No statistically significant differences were found between the GoPro group and the non-GoPro group at summative assessment (85.3% vs 90.0%, p = 0.572). Almost all participants surveyed found the GoPro effective for their learning (98.5%). Common themes in the qualitative analysis were: the ability for an improved assessment, greater identification of small details that would otherwise be missed, and usefulness of the unique point-of-view footage in improving understanding. Conclusions: The GoPro is a promising tool for simulation-based intubation teaching. Objective: To determine the radiographic and functional outcomes after autologous iliotibial band with Gerdy's tubercle (ITB‐GT) interposition in patients with irreparable rotator cuff tears (IRCTs). Methods: From December 2015 to March 2017, a total of 16 patients who underwent autologous ITB‐GT interposition for IRCTs were identified, including 4 males and 12 females. The mean age was 56.1 ± 10.3 years (range, 44–67 years). Functional assessment consisted of active range of motion (ROM), Visual Analogue scale (VAS), American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score, Constant–Murley score, and patient satisfaction rate. The tendon integrity and acromiohumeral interval (AHI) were assessed by postoperative magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Results: The mean duration of follow‐up was 25.3 ± 3.5 months. At final follow‐up, the patients exhibited significantly improved forward elevation, external rotation, and internal rotation (75.00° ± 13.16° to 159.37° ± 8.51°, t = 26.71, P = 0.001; 17.81° ± 11.54° to 35.31° ± 8.26°, t = 6.57, P = 0.001; 2 to 11, t = 13.10, P = 0.001). Other functional outcomes as measured by VAS score, ASES score, and Constant–Murley score also improved significantly (6.50 ± 1.41 to 1.06 ± 0.93, t = 11.68, P = 0.001; 38.50 ± 8.68 to 81.75 ± 6.80, t = 15.42, P = 0.001; 32.50 ± 8.53 to 77.12 ± 6.72, t = 17.28, P = 0.001). The overall satisfaction rate was 87.5%. The postoperative MRI showed that the tendon integrity was fully intact in 14 patients and partially intact in two patients. The AHI improved significantly from 3.63 ± 1.25 mm preoperatively to 8.37 ± 1.02 mm postoperatively (t = 11.78, P = 0.001). Conclusion: Autologous ITB‐GT interposition was a useful treatment option for patients with IRCTs, which resulted in significant improvements in active ROM, subjective functional outcomes, and AHI with excellent tendon integrity at a minimum 2‐year follow‐up. Background: Aponermin, a circularly permuted tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand, is a potential death receptor 4/5-targeted antitumour candidate. Previous phase 1/2 studies have demonstrated the efficacy of aponermin in patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM). To confirm the superiority of aponermin plus thalidomide and dexamethasone (aponermin group) over placebo plus thalidomide and dexamethasone (placebo group) in RRMM, a randomized, double-blinded, placebo controlled phase 3 trial was performed. Methods: Four hundred seventeen patients with RRMM who had previously received at least two regimens were randomly assigned (2:1) to receive aponermin, thalidomide, and dexamethasone or placebo, thalidomide, and dexamethasone. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS). Key secondary endpoints included overall survival (OS) and overall response rate (ORR). Results: A total of 415 patients received at least one dose of trial treatment (276 vs. 139). The median PFS was 5.5 months in the aponermin group and 3.1 months in the placebo group (hazard ratio, 0.62; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.49–0.78; P < 0.001). The median OS was 22.4 months for the aponermin group and 16.4 months for the placebo group (hazard ratio, 0.70; 95% CI, 0.55–0.89; P = 0.003). Significantly higher rates of ORR (30.4% vs. 13.7%, P < 0.001) and very good partial response or better (14.1% vs. 2.2%, P < 0.0001) were achieved in the aponermin group than in the placebo group. Treatment with aponermin caused hepatotoxicity in some patients, as indicated by the elevated alanine transaminase, aspartate transaminase, or lactate dehydrogenase levels (52.2% vs. 24.5%, 51.1% vs. 19.4% and 44.9% vs. 21.6%, respectively), mostly grade 1/2, transient and reversible. The main grade 3/4 adverse events included neutropenia, pneumonia and hyperglycemia. The incidence of serious adverse events was similar between the two groups (40.6% vs. 37.4%). There was no evidence that aponermin leads to hematological toxicity, nephrotoxicity, cardiotoxicity, or secondary tumors. Conclusions: Aponermin plus thalidomide and dexamethasone significantly improved PFS, OS and ORR with manageable side effects in RRMM patients who had received at least two prior therapies. These results support the use of aponermin, thalidomide, and dexamethasone as a treatment option for RRMM patients.
