High-locality and hidden landslides, due to its significant characteristics of being difficult to access, identify, and monitor, have strong suddenness and destructiveness when they occur. Continuous monitoring and risk assessment of these landslides are of great significance. Traditional artificial ground survey methods and ground monitoring equipment have the characteristics of high risk, low efficiency, easy damage to equipment, and frequent offline false alarms. Thus, based on unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) tilt photogrammetry, this study attempts to provide a digital twin method to characterize high-locality and hidden landslides by monitoring and analyzing the deformation and spatiotemporal evolution of geological disasters. This study uses UAV tilt photogrammetry technology to obtain 10 periods of aerial survey data of the Baige landslide on the Jinsha River in Tibet as the research area from April 2019 to September 2021. A multi-temporal digital twin landslide body is constructed, and high-precision quantitative monitoring of multi-dimensional factors, such as the overall sliding characteristics, local micro deformation, and collapse volume of the Baige landslide, is achieved, which are applied to the monitoring and warning of Baige landslide. The results show that there are signs of continuous deformation in the Baige landslide during the monitoring period from 2019 to 2021, and strong deformation mainly occurs at both sides and rear edges of the landslide, gradually expanding, and posing a risk of collapse and river blockage. The multi-temporal digital twin method and application of landslide deformation monitoring on qualitative and quantitative characteristics description and risk assessment of geological disasters are further analyzed. The method in this study has the advantages of fast and flexible, comprehensive coverage, and not limited by complex and dangerous terrain conditions, which could provide information for the large gradient deformation monitoring and engineering practice of slope disasters, such as high-locality and hidden landslides.

Previous studies have shown that microRNAs (miRNAs) are involved in the regulation of a variety of metabolic diseases, which related to some important signal pathways. Our aim was to explore the possible mechanism of miRNAs by revealing the differential expression of serum miRNAs in different BMI of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). We found that miR-29 decreased liver aminotransferase gamma-GGT and uric acid levels by inhibiting the expression of JNK-1 in non-obese T2DM patients with NAFLD, and down-regulated the expression of atherosclerosis-related factor lipoprotein phospholipase A2 (Lp-PLA2). Combined with bioinformatics analysis, we speculate that this may be mediated by the AMPK signaling. These findings suggest that miR-29 may be a potential targeted therapeutic strategy in T2DM patients with NAFLD.

Abstract The energy replenishment and heat convection induced by fracture water flowing through the rock mass impact the shallow geothermal energy occurrence, transfer and storage mechanisms in it. In this article, a suitability evaluation and categorization system is proposed by including judgement indexes that are more closely aligned with the actual hydrogeological conditions in fracture developed regions; an assessment approach of regional shallow geothermal energy is proposed by coupling the influences of fracture water into the calculation methods of geothermal capacity, thermal balance and heat transfer rate. Finally, by taking two typical fracture aperture distributions as examples, the impacts of fracture water on the investigation and evaluation of shallow geothermal energy are quantitatively analyzed. Although the fracture apertures only share 1.68% and 0.98% of the total length of a borehole, respectively, in the two examples, the fracture water convection contributes up to 11.01% and 6.81% of the total heat transfer rate; and the energy replenishment potential brought by the fracture water is equivalent to the total heat extraction of 262 boreholes. A single wide aperture fracture can dominate the aforementioned impacts. The research results can support more accurate evaluation and efficient recovery of shallow geothermal energy in fracture developed regions.

Abstract Chemotherapy remains as the first-choice treatment option for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). However, the limited tumor penetration and low cellular internalization efficiency of current nanocarrier-based systems impede the access of anticancer drugs to TNBC with dense stroma and thereby greatly restricts clinical therapeutic efficacy, especially for TNBC bone metastasis. In this work, biomimetic head/hollow tail nanorobots were designed through a site-selective superassembly strategy. We show that nanorobots enable efficient remodeling of the dense tumor stromal microenvironments (TSM) for deep tumor penetration. Furthermore, the self-movement ability and spiky head markedly promote interfacial cellular uptake efficacy, transvascular extravasation, and intratumoral penetration. These nanorobots, which integrate deep tumor penetration, active cellular internalization, near-infrared (NIR) light-responsive release, and photothermal therapy capacities into a single nanodevice efficiently suppress tumor growth in a bone metastasis female mouse model of TNBC and also demonstrate potent antitumor efficacy in three different subcutaneous tumor models.

To study the formation mechanism and hydration characteristics of geothermal resources and provide a reference for the comprehensive utilization and development of resources. Collect the water samples from Midi River in Bijie City, Guizhou Province, analyze the hydrochemical characteristics, and adopt the Piper trilinear diagram, geothermal and landmark method and audio magnetotelluric method to study the geothermal hydration and formation mechanism of Midi River. The research indicates: affected by Pingzhai dome structure, the internal joint structure in the dome is very developed in this region, which is conducive to the migration of deep thermal water to the relatively low area in the dome, forming the convective underground thermal water resources of the fold dome structure.Through regional fault detection, it is inferred that there are five shattered fault zones (or fissures) in this region, among which F4 and F13 faults have steep occurrence and shallow downward extension; F9 is more pronounced and tends to be northwest; F1 has a nearly northsouth trend, tends to northwest, and extends deeper; F17 and F18 are more obvious, but the extension is shallow. It is inferred that the F1 fault has good thermal control lability and is a favorable position for underground thermal water upwelling. Heating of the surrounding rock is obtained within 2 500 m depth of runoff after receiving infiltration recharge water from atmospheric precipitation in the rim of Pingzhai dome, and a deep pressure-bearing thermal reservoir is formed in the dolomite of Dengying Formation of Sinian System under the action of overlying Cambrian clastic rock water-resisting and heat-preservation overburden. The analysis of hydrochemical characteristics shows that geothermal water is low-salinity water. Na+ is the main positive ion in geothermal well water, accounting for approximately 45%, followed by Ca2+ and Mg2+, accounting for approximately 49%. HCO3- accounts for the main negative ion, SO42- accounts for 39%, and Cl- accounts for almost no, so the chemical type of geothermal water is HCO3-·SO42--Na·Ca; the geothermal reservoir temperature of the geothermal well is 53.98℃, the geothermal gradient is 2.85℃/100 m, and the circulation depth of the geothermal water is approximately 2 500 m.The research results have a good guiding significance for the exploitation and utilization of geothermal resources in Bijie City, Guizhou Province.

Objective: The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of egg white powder addition on the fried characteristics of surimi and its influencing mechanism. Methods: The cheap silver carp was used as raw material, and the egg white powder was added to the surimi for compounding. The frying characteristics of surimi were characterized by measuring porosity, hardness and water absorption, and the dynamic rheological properties, foam stability and SDS-PAGE of surimi were measured to explore its influencing mechanism. Results: With the increase of egg white powder content, the porosity and water absorption of fried fish ball increased first and then decreased, and the hardness decreased first and then increased. The effect of 10.0% egg white powder was the best. In addition, SDS-PAGE analysis showed that, new bands with molecular weight of ≥100 kDa were generated in surimi. Accordingly, the porosity of fried fish balls was positively correlated to the gel property and foam stability of surimi. Conclusion: The addition of egg white powder improved the gel property and foam stability of surimi, thereby increasing the stability of pore structure of surimi during frying, improving the porosity and taste of fried fish balls, and improving its edible quality.

As the depth of mines continues to increase, the problems of high temperature and potential heat damage become more prominent. In this study, the characteristics of natural and industrial heat sources in mines were reviewed, and then mainstream heat hazard governance technologies and corresponding utilization methods were discussed and compared. The first category of technologies comprises the optimization of ventilation systems, the insulation of roc heat, and artificial refrigeration. These cooling approaches are limited because the heat resources cannot be recovered. The second category is the utilization of waste industrial heat in mines, including the use of waste heat from the air compressors, drainage water, and foul airflow, but the current applications of these approaches have limited effectiveness in cooling the underground space. The third category is the application of geo-structures to recover natural heat in mines. Based on the principles of the chiller/heat pump cycle and the characteristics of heat sources and sinks in mines, the potential and constraints of each technology were discussed and summarized. This study provides a scientific reference for the selection of suitable heat governance and utilization technologies.

Fractured rock mass is extensively distributed in Karst topography regions, and its geological environment is different from that of the quaternary strata. In this study, the influences on geological environment induced by the construction and operation of a large-scale borehole group of ground source heat pumps are analyzed by a thermo-hydro-mechanical (THM) coupling numerical model. It was found that groundwater is redirected as the boreholes can function as channels to the surface, and the flow velocity in the upstream of borehole group is higher than those downstream. This change in groundwater flow enhances heat transfer in the upstream boreholes but may disturb the original groundwater system and impact the local geological environment. Heat accumulation is more likely to occur downstream. The geo-stress concentration appears in the borehole area, mainly due to exaction and increasing with the depth. On the fracture plane, tensile stress and maximum shear stress simultaneously occur on the upstream of boreholes, inducing the possibility of fracturing or the expansion of existing fractures. There is a slight uplift displacement on the surface after the construction of boreholes. The correlations of the above THM phenomena are discussed and analyzed. From the modeling results, it is suggested that the consolidation of backfills can minimize the environmental disturbances in terms of groundwater redirection, thermal accumulation, occurrence of tensile stress, and possible fracturing. This study provides support for the assessment of impacts on geological environments resulting from shallow geothermal development and layout optimization of ground heat exchangers in engineering practices.

Abstract The occurrence of toxic metals in the aquatic environment is as caused by a variety of contaminations which makes difficulty in the concentration prediction. In this study, conventional methods of back-propagation neural network (BPNN) and nonlinear autoregressive network with exogenous inputs (NARX) were applied as benchmark models. Explanatory variables of Fe, pH, electrical conductivity, water temperature, river flow, nitrate nitrogen, and dissolved oxygen were used as different input combinations to forecast the long-term concentrations of As, Pb, and Zn. The wavelet transformation was applied to decompose the time series data, and then was integrated with conventional methods (as WNN and WNARX). The modelling performances of the hybrid models of WNN and WNARX were compared with the conventional models. All the given models were trained, validated, and tested by an 18-year data set and demonstrated based on the simulation results of a 2-year data set. Results revealed that the given models showed general good performances for the long-term prediction of the toxic metals of As, Pb, and Zn. The wavelet transform could enhance the long-term concentration predictions. However, it is not necessarily useful for each metal prediction. Therefore, different models with different inputs should be used for different metals predictions to achieve the best predictions.

Abstract Gas pressure is one of the major factors to characterize the outburst danger of coal seams. Generally, the process of gas pressure determination is complicate and cannot ensure the accuracy of results, which may cause a wrong identification of outburst danger. This paper discussed and revealed a positive correlation between initial gas emission and gas pressure, which provides a new approach to identify the outburst danger by initial gas emission. Through theoretical analysis and numerical simulation, the liner equation of gas pressure and initial gas emission was deduced. Laboratory experiments under adsorption and desorption of CO2 and N2 were performed using coal samples from Weishe coal mine. The data of initial gas emission under different gas pressure were recorded, and the fitting curves were obtained. The results show a positive correlation between initial gas emission and gas pressure, and the curve of N2 was below the CO2. Especially, while the adsorption gas pressure was under 0.663 and 0.675 MPa, the difference of corresponding initial gas emission was only 0.01 L/s, which indicates the high degree of correlation. The results validated the theoretical and practical feasibility to identify the coal and the gas outbursts through initial gas emission.

Shallow geothermal energy is a clean and effective form of energy that can overcome the problems associated with the depletion of carbon-based energy carbon emissions. Due to the special hydrogeological conditions in karst regions, the heat transfer between heat exchange boreholes and the ground formation is a complicated, multi-physical process. The abundant groundwater flow plays an important role in the heat transfer process, and even presents an opportunity to mitigate the heat imbalance during the long term operation of ground-coupled heat pumps (GCHP). In this study, both laboratorial experiments and numerical simulations were performed to analyze the mechanism that shows how fracture water impacts on heat capacity and the thermal imbalance of the energy storage rock mass. The results showed that the overall temperature fluctuation of the rock mass was reduced by the fracture water, and the temperature curve with time became gentler, which means in practice that the heat imbalance in the rock mass could be delayed. However, the temperature contour map showed that the impact of the fracture water flow was constrained in the nearby areas and decreased obviously with distance. The temperature field was also dragged along the direction of the fracture water flow. During the shutdown period, the fracture water significantly enhanced the thermal recovery ability of the rock mass. The results will assist in further understanding the mechanism of heat transfer and energy balance in a rock mass with fracture water flow. It is proposed that the U pipes should be located at zones with abundant fracture water if the construction condition permits. U pipes that are near the fractures should share more of the load or a denser layout could be possible as their heat transfer capacity is improved by the water flow.

Horizontal ground heat exchangers (HGHEs) have advantages such as convenient construction and low cost; however, their application and popularization are restricted owing to traditional linear HGHEs occupying large space and presenting low total heat transfer capacity. Spiral-coil and slinky-coil HGHEs have been proposed, but currently a comprehensive comparison and evaluation for these types of HGHEs are still needed. In this study, a three-dimensional heat transfer model of the three types of HGHEs for ground source heat pumps (GSHPs) was established. Based on the simulation results, the long-term heat transfer performances were investigated, including the temperature field of surrounding energy-storage soils, outlet working fluid temperature, coefficient of performance (COP) of units, and surplus temperature of the energy-storage soils. A new concept named heat transfer capacity per heat-affected area was proposed in this paper. It is found that the spiral-coil HGHEs have the best performances in terms of working-fluid outlet temperature, unit COP, total heat transfer capacity, heat transfer rate heat-affected area. The linear HGHEs shows the best performances in terms of mitigating heat imbalance risk and heat transfer rate per length. The results provide a reliable basis for selection of HGHE types in engineering practice and improvement guide in the future.

Ground-coupled heat pump (GCHP) is used to recovery shallow geothermal energy, a widely distributed green energy source. Due to the imbalance between heat rejection and extraction, heat buildup underground is commonly associated with the long-term operation of GCHPs, which undermine system performance. Heat buildup intrinsically results the irreversibilities (entropy production) in subsurface heat sink, in which thermodynamic and transport properties are largely influenced by hydrogeologic properties, especially the existence of fractures and groundwater. This study investigates the influence of water flow in fractures on the thermodynamic performance of a single borehole heat exchanger (BHX) and heat buildup in the underground heat exchange zone (UHXZ). Potential influence factors were screened out, and new terms were proposed to quantify the scale of fractures and available heat and cold in the heat sink. Governing equations were established to calculate the impacts of vertical and horizontal fractures on the heat exchange rate in BHX as well as on the heat flow across the UHXZ. The analysis results show that water flow in fractures can significantly enhance heat transfer, reduce required number of boreholes, mitigate heat buildup and reduce irreversibilities underground. The results also suggest that the role of fracture scales and water velocity in GCHP operation should be carefully evaluated. Therefore, detailed hydrogeological survey is necessary. The study results provide a guide on more accurately evaluating the risk of heat buildup and how to take advantage of hydrogeological characters to improve the performance of GCHPs.

Storage is currently a major obstacle to the promotion of hydrogen energy. Hydrogen storage in abandoned coal mines can achieve the effective use of underground space while meeting the growing demand for energy storage facilities, which can bring economic and environmental benefits. However, research in this area has been limited to the conceptual discussion stage, without establishing a scientific evaluation method for the potential of modifying and utilizing abandoned coal mine space. In this study, based on the analytic network process (ANP), the Apriori algorithm is introduced to mine the association rules for various influencing factors. First, the Apriori algorithm is applied to mine association rules between indicators, eliminate unnecessary influence relationships, simplify the network structure model, and optimize the ANP weight calculation results; second, the solution method of judgment matrix is improved with triangular fuzzy numbers, and the index weight is solved by fuzzy nine marks instead of the method of nine scale, which is convenient for experts to give the fuzzy scale while better reflecting the opinions of experts. Finally, the ANP algorithm is applied to rank the weights of the obtained influencing factors, discuss the main factors with higher weights, and analyze the feasibility of converting candidate coal mines into hydrogen storage facilities using the derived evaluation method in the case study. The evaluation methods and conclusions presented in this study provide analytical tools and a decision basis for analyzing the feasibility of converting underground space of abandoned coal mines into hydrogen storage facilities and assessing the economic indicators.

The occurrence and migration of coalbed methane (CBM) is inseparably associated with the pore structure within the coal seams. Three Permian Longtan Formation tectonic coal samples (QL, XL, XT) from Guizhou Province were studied to determine pore size distribution and characteristics, as well as factors that influence adsorption. Adsorption test results show that all samples generally have “ink bottle”-type pores, with large pore capacity but poor connectivity. Furthermore, the fractal dimension Df, the tortuosity “τ”, and tortuous fractal dimension DT of samples were calculated. Among the studied tectonic coals, moisture, ash, tortuosity, and volatile fraction have a positive effect on the maximum adsorption capacity (VL), whereas intact coals’ tortuosity volatile has a negative correlation with the maximum adsorption capacity (VL).

The thermophysical properties of backfill material (BM) in a heat exchange borehole significantly influence the heat exchange effect of ground source heat pumps (GSHPs). Several treatments such as compaction and adding bentonite, cement, and fine sands are often used to improve the thermophysical properties. In this study, a 3A molecular sieve (3A-MS), a type of porous material, was added to the BM to enhance its water maintaining capacity. Three types of backfill materials with different additive contents, named as BM-0, BM-1, and BM-2, were examined. The variation of the BM properties such as the soil–water characteristic curve (SWCC), thermal conductivity, specific heat capacity, and thermal diffusivity with the groundwater content were investigated through a series of experiments and simulations. A scanning electron microscope (SEM), an energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), and the BET method for specific surface area pore size analysis were used to characterize the material. The results indicated that the specific heat capacity improved with the water content whereas the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity decreased with the water content. The variation of the buried pipe outlet temperature with the change of the thermal physical parameters of the BM were researched by a numerical simulation and theoretical calculations; the results showed that BM-2 could raise the heat transfer rate per meter by 45.9% in summer and 118.4% in winter compared with the backfill materials without groundwater (NW). The research results provide theoretical support for the improvement of BM for ground source heat pump projects where abundant groundwater is available.

The Chinese mole shrew, Anourosorex squamipes Milne-Edwards, 1872, is a common species of insectivorous mammal in Southwest China. Based on field investigations between 2001 and 2019, the present study reports the infestation of chiggers (larvae of chigger mites) on the shrew in Southwest China and certain ecology parameters for the first time. A total of 3169 chiggers were collected from 1694 A. squamipes and they were identified into 72 species and 10 genera in the family Trombiculidae. The overall infestation prevalence (Pm), mean abundance (MA) and mean intensity (MI) of A. squamipes with chiggers reached 11.1%, 1.87 and 16.86, respectively. The species diversity, species composition and infestation of chiggers on A. squamipes fluctuated in different environments (latitudes, altitudes, habitats and landscapes) and on different sexes and ages of the shrew hosts with high heterogeneity and low species similarity. The ground source heat pump (GSHP) is receiving increasing attention due to the global trend of energy-saving and emission reduction. However, projects with ground heat exchangers (GHEs) buried in fractured rock bodies are scarce, and the impacts of water flow in fractures on the system performance are short of detailed investigations. In this paper, a three-dimensional model was built to study the temperature distribution underground and the relative performance of heat pumps and GHEs influenced by groundwater flow in fractures. Three factors including fluid flow velocities in fractures, the number of fractures and the distributions of fractures were taken into consideration, a range of indicators including outlet temperature of GHEs, mean temperature of “Energy Storage Rock Body” (ESRB) and heat injection rate per unit length were examined. It was found that the heat injection rate per unit length of a U-pipe in fractured rock body could be up to 78.83% higher than that of a U-pipe in integrated rock. Likewise, the coefficient of performance of cases with fractures was identified to be up to 4.50% higher than the integrated rock case. In addition, differently distributed fractures also have different impacts on the heat transfer efficiency of heat pumps and GHEs.

BackgroundLittle is known about the role of global DNA methylation in recurrence and chemoresistance of high grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC).MethodsWe performed whole genome bisulfite sequencing and transcriptome sequencing in 62 primary and recurrent tumors from 28 patients with stage III/IV HGSOC, of which 11 patients carried germline, pathogenic BRCA1 and/or BRCA2 mutations.ResultsLandscapes of genome-wide methylation (on average 24.2 million CpGs per tumor) and transcriptomes in primary and recurrent tumors showed extensive heterogeneity between patients but were highly preserved in tumors from the same patient. We identified significant differences in the burden of differentially methylated regions (DMRs) in tumors from BRCA1/2 compared to non-BRCA1/2 carriers (mean 659 DMRs and 388 DMRs in paired comparisons respectively). We identified overexpression of immune pathways in BRCA1/2 carriers compared to non-carriers, implicating an increased immune response in improved survival (P = 0.006) in these BRCA1/2 carriers.ConclusionThese findings indicate methylome and gene expression programs established in the primary tumor are conserved throughout disease progression, even after extensive chemotherapy treatment, and that changes in methylation and gene expression are unlikely to serve as drivers for chemoresistance in HGSOC.

BackgroundKnown risk alleles for epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) account for approximately 40% of the heritability for EOC. Copy number variants (CNVs) have not been investigated as EOC risk alleles in a large population cohort.MethodsSingle nucleotide polymorphism array data from 13 071 EOC cases and 17 306 controls of White European ancestry were used to identify CNVs associated with EOC risk using a rare admixture maximum likelihood test for gene burden and a by-probe ratio test. Simple Summary: Chiggers are the exclusive vector of scrub typhus. A total of 61 chigger species were identified from Apodemus latronum, which is an endemic mouse species in southwest China. There was an age bias; adult A. latronum had higher infestation indices of chiggers (PM = 38.28%, MA = 5.11) than juvenile mice (PM = 12.63%, MA = 0.97). The mouse hosts with poor nutrition had higher chigger infestation indices than the hosts with good nutrition. The chigger infestation obviously fluctuated along different altitude gradients, and the β diversity of the chigger community showed a gradually increasing tendency from the low to high altitudes. The dominant chigger species had high spillover potentials, dispersing from high to low altitudes. The temperature and humidity are the most important factors influencing the chigger infestation. Chiggers are the exclusive vector of Orientia tsutsugamushi, which is the causative agent of scrub typhus. Based on the field surveys in southwest China between 2001 and 2022, this paper retrospectively reported the chigger infestation and distribution on the large-eared field mouse (Apodemus latronum), an endemic rodent species in the region, for the first time. A total of 933 chiggers were collected from 501 mice, and these chiggers were identified as 2 families, 8 genera, and 61 species. The overall infestation prevalence (PM) and mean abundance (MA) of A. latronum with chiggers reached 19.76% and 1.86 mites/per mouse, respectively. The chigger infestation indices on adult A. latronum (PM = 38.28%, MA = 5.11) were higher than those on juvenile mice (PM = 12.63%, MA = 0.97) with p < 0.01, showing an age bias of infestation. The relative fatness (K) was used to reflect the nutrition status of the mouse host. The mouse hosts with good nutrition (K = 3.4 ± 0.89 g/cm3) harbored fewer chiggers than the hosts with poor nutrition (K = 2.2 ± 0.90 g/cm3) (p < 0.01). The infestation indices of chiggers on A. latronum obviously fluctuated along different altitude gradients (p < 0.01). With the increase in altitudes, the β diversity of the chigger community showed a gradually increasing tendency. The spillover chord diagram, which was based on indices of PAC (potential for apparent competition), revealed high spillover potentials of dominant chigger species dispersing from high altitude gradients to the lowest one. The chigger abundance was positively correlated with the mean monthly temperature (tmp), mean monthly humidity (hum), the mean monthly precipitation (pre), and the human footprint (hfp), and it was negatively correlated with the altitude (ele) (p < 0.05).
