International audience; BACKGROUND: In several small studies, anticoagulant therapy reduced the incidence of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients with isolated lower-limb injuries. OBJECTIVES: To compare the efficacy and safety of fondaparinux 2.5 mg (1.5 mg in patients with a creatinine clearance between 30 and 50 mL min(-1) ) over nadroparin 2850 anti-factor Xa IU. PATIENTS AND METHODS: In this international, multicenter, randomized, open-label study, patients with an isolated non-surgical unilateral below-knee injury having at least one additional major risk factor for VTE and requiring, in the Investigator's opinion, rigid or semi-rigid immobilization for 21-45 days with thromboprophylaxis up to complete mobilization received subcutaneously once-daily either fondaparinux or nadroparin. The primary efficacy outcome was the composite of VTE (symptomatic or ultrasonographically detected asymptomatic deep vein thrombosis of the lower limb or symptomatic pulmonary embolism) and death up to complete mobilization. The main safety outcome was major bleeding. RESULTS: We randomized 1349 patients (mean age 46 years): 88.7% had a bone fracture, and 83.8% had a plaster cast fitted (mean duration of immobilization, 34 days). Comunicação em Poster, This paper studies the modifications induced in low-pressure radio-frequency capacitively coupled nitrogen plasmas, by the addition of a few amount of hydrogen (up to 5%). The plasmas are studied using both experiments (electrical and optical emission spectroscopy measurements) and simulations (using a fluid+kinetic code). Trabalhos de manejo de irrigação no Brasil com a limeira ácida ?Tahiti? são escassos, especialmente no Estado do Piauí. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a produção e os componentes de produção da limeira ácida ?Tahiti? em resposta à aplicação de cinco lâminas (68, 80, 100, 124 e 136% da evapotranspiração da cultura ? ETc) e duas frequências de irrigação (um e dois dias). O experimento foi realizado em um pomar comercial, com espaçamento de 6 x 5 m e irrigado por microaspersão, localizado em José de Freitas, PI. Utilizou-se o delineamento experimental em blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições, e esquema de parcelas subdivididas (frequências ? parcelas e lâminas ? subparcelas). O manejo diário da irrigação foi realizado pelo balanço de água no solo, com o auxílio do programa computacional Irriplus. O manejo de irrigação com turno de rega diário e reposição de 100% da ETc foi o mais indicado, por proporcionar maiores níveis de produtividade (2.709 kg ha-1), peso médio dos frutos (105,2 g) e máxima EUA (299 g m-3).

- Abstract
In this work, we report on the production of Ge nanoparticles (NPs) in an inert Ar gas atmosphere by pulsed laser deposition (PLD) at room temperature (RT). The direct deposition of energetic particles/droplets resulting from the ablation process of the target material has been avoided by using an original and customized off-axis shadow mask (shadowed off-axis) deposition set-up where the NPs deposition on the substrate takes place by means of scattering between the NPs formed in the vapor phase and the background Ar atoms. It is found that the Ar gas pressure parameter has a relevant role in the crystallization process, with better crystallinity obtained as the background Ar pressure is raised for the given experimental conditions. © Springer-Verlag 2012

Análises realizadas por cromatografia líquida de alta eficiência apresentaram algumas dificuldades, principalmente no que diz respeito ao elevado custo atribuído à demanda por uma grande quantidade de materiais, solventes e rotinas analíticas extensas. Uma série de tentativas foram feitas no laboratório de Agroquímica da EMBRAPA-Milho e Sorgo em Sete Lagoas, MG, buscando uma forma simplificada de extração e análise de pesticidas em solo. Este trabalho teve como objetivo desenvolver uma metodologia de extração e análise de carbofuran e thiodicarb em solo que reduzisse o custo analítico, com menor tempo de processamento. para isso, foram aplicados carbofuran e thiodicarb em latossolo Vermelho-Escuro, nas concentrações de 0,1; 0,5; 1,0; 5,0 e 10,0 mg dm-3. Os inseticidas foram quantificados pela técnica do padrão externo e a taxa de recuperação foi de 95 a 110%, com ambos os produtos. o uso da metodologia simplificada mostrou-se perfeitamente satisfatório, não comprometendo a qualidade da análise.

- Abstract
In this work, the influence of air pressure during the annealing of Ge quantum dot (QD) lattices embedded in an amorphous Al2O3 matrix on the structural, morphological and compositional properties of the film is studied. The formation of a regularly ordered void lattice after performing a thermal annealing process is explored. Our results show that both the Ge desorption from the film and the regular ordering of the QDs are very sensitive to the annealing parameters. The conditions for the formation of a void lattice, a crystalline Ge QD lattice and a disordered QD lattice are presented. The observed effects are explained in terms of oxygen interaction with the Ge present in the film.

14. Movimentação de inseticidas de tratamento de sementes no solo sob efeito da irrigação

Este trabalho foi desenvolvido no Centro Nacional de Pesquisa de Milho e Sorgo (CNPMS), EMBRAPA, Sete Lagoas, MG, e teve como objetivo avaliar o movimento de inseticidas de tratamento de sementes de milho no perfil do solo em areas irrigadas. Foram utilizadas tres laminas de irrigacao: deficiente (50% da adequada), adequada e excessiva (100% superior a adequada), e dois inseticidas de tratamento de semente de milho: Semevin 350 RA (Thiodicarb) e Furadan 350 TS (Carbofuran), nas doses recomendadas pelos fabricantes. O monitoramento da lixiviacao desses inseticidas no solo foi feito em camadas de 5 cm e em quatro intervalos de 10 dias, a partir semeadura. A analise de residuo das amostras de solo foi feita utilizando-se cromatografia liquida de alta performance (HPLC). Nas condicoes em que foi realizado o experimento obtiveram-se as seguintes conclusoes: o Thiodicarb apresentou-se o mais instavel (com relacao a sua atividade) no solo com baixo risco de contaminacao do lencol freatico; o Carbofuran apresentou-se com um potencial maior de lixiviacao no perfil do solo devido, possivelmente, a sua resistencia a degradacao e, com baixo risco de contaminacao do lencol freatico para as condicoes apresentadas. Para todos os tratamentos, houve maior retencao do principio ativo dos inseticidas nas camadas mais superficiais (0 a 15 cm) do solo.

15. Influência de quatro frequências de irrigação na distribuição radicular, em três estádios de desenvolvimento da cultura do feijoeiro

Para quantificar a profundidade efetiva do sistema radicular do feijoeiro, foi conduzido um experimento no Centro Nacional de Pesquisa de Milho e Sorgo (CNPMS), com objetivo de quantificar a profundidade efetiva do sistema radicular da cultura do feijoeiro (profundidade onde se encontra 80% da raizes de uma planta) em um Latossolo Vermelho-Escuro Alico fase cerrado. As diversas profundidades radicular do feijoeiro foram determinados para quatro frequencias de irrigacao e em tres estadios de desenvolvimento da cultura. Para tanto, desenvolveu-se um trado que permitiu a amostragem em varias posicoes e profundidades do solo, medidos nos seguintes estadios da cultura. V4 (presenca da terceira folha trifoliada), R7 (formacao das vagens) e R9 (maturacao), conforme, escala do CIAT. As profundidades efetivas do sistema radicular do feijoeiro para a maxima frequencia de irrigacao de dois dias, foram de 15,25% e 26 cm para os estadios de desenvolvimento V4, R7 e R9, respectivamente. Na menor frequencia de irrigacao (14 dias) as profundidades efetivas encontradas foram 19, 32 e 37 cm, para os mesmos estadios citados anteriormente. Tais resultados mostraram que ha um aumento da profundidade efetiva media, a medida que se diminui a frequencia de irrigacao, o que pode ser explicado pela possivel ocorrencia de estresse hidrico, levando a cultura a explorar um volume maior de solo a fim de suprir suas necessidades hidricas. Tambem existe pouca diferenca entre os valores de profundidade efetiva nos estadios de desenvolvimento R7 e R9, para todos tratamentos, mostrando que a profundidade efetiva nos estadios de desenvolvimento R7 e R9, para todos os tratamentos, mostrando que a profundidade efetiva que se deve considerar para o dimensionamento de projetos de irrigacao e mesma do estadio no qual a cultura atinge o maximo desenvolvimento vegetativo que, nesse caso, e o estadio R7.

A velocidade de infiltracao e uma das mais importantes caracteristicas do solo a ser considerada em irrigacao e em estudos hidrologicos, devido a variabilidade espacial e temporal e a influencia do metodo na sua determinacao. Neste estudo, desenvolvido na area experimental da Universidade federal de Vicosa, MG, de outubro a dezembro de 1992, foram analisados dois metodos de determinacao da velocidade de infiltracao, usando infiltrometros de aspersao e de anel, em condicoes de solo nu e com cobertura morte. Foi empregado o modelo de regressao nao linear para estimar os parametros das equacoes dessa velocidade. As obtidas com o infiltrometro de anel foram superiores as do infiltrometro de aspersao. Com esses resultados, procurou-se estabelecer uma correlacaoo entre os dados da velocidade de infiltracao obtidos com o infiltrometro de aspersao e os do infiltrometro de anel, visando subsidiar um manejo adequado da agua de irrigacao. Avaliaram-se os efeitos de quatro vazoes (2, 4, 6 e 8 l/h) e de quatro volumes de agua (9, 18, 36 e 72), aplicados pontualmente em um Latossolo Vermelho-Escuro alico, sobre o desenvolvimento do bulbo molhado. O monitoramento da umidade, com sonda de neutrons e tensiometros foi feito antes da aplicacao de agua, 0, 24 e 48 horas apos cessada a irrigacao. Observou-se que maiores volumes de agua aplicados por irrigacao promoveram maiores dimensoes dos bulbos, para uma mesma vazao de aplicacao. Para um mesmo volume aplicado, as maiores vazoes promoveram maior avanco horizontal e menor avanco vertical.

The production, processing, and application of aliphatic isocyanate (NCO)-based thermosets such as polyurethane coatings and adhesives are generally limited by the surprisingly high viscosity of tri-functionality and higher-functionality isocyanurates. These compounds are essential crosslinking additives for network formation. However, the mechanism by which these high viscosities are caused is not yet understood. In this work, model aliphatic isocyanurates were synthesized and isolated in high purity (>99%), and their viscosities were accurately determined. It was shown that the presence of the NCO group has a strong influence on the viscosity of the system. From density functional theory calculations, a novel and significant bimolecular binding potential of À8.7 kJ/mol was identified be- tween NCO groups and isocyanurate rings, confirming the important role of the NCO group. This NCO-to-ring inter- action was proposed to be the root cause for the high viscosities observed for NCO-functional isocyanurate systems. Molecular dynamics simulations carried out to further confirm this influence also suggest that the NCO-to- ring interaction causes a significant additional contribution to viscosity. 20. Na and Cl Transport across the Isolated Anterior Intestine of the Plaice Pleuronectes Platessa

- Abstract
The tissue was found to have a serosa negative potential, and shortcircuit currents equivalent to the net Cl transport. A significant part of the Cl uptake was Na dependent and a similar fraction of the Na uptake was Cl dependent. Short-circuit current and uptake of both ions were inhibited by loop diuretics and analogues. 4. Isc and p.d. were abolished by ouabain. The observations are consistent with the idea of a coupled NaCl entry into the cell, using the energy inherent in the Na gradient; Na being pumped out of the cells by the Na pump and followed electrically by Cl−. Net chloride transport and the serosa negative potential would be a consequence of the permselective properties of the junctions allowing Na but not Cl to recycle back to the mucosal solution.

- Abstract
This work presents a non-targeted screening approach for the detection and quantitation of contaminants in bees and pollen, collected from the same hive, by GC-EI-ToF-MS. It consists of a spectral library datasets search using a compound database followed by a manual investigation and analytical standard confirmation together with semi-quantitation purposes. Over 20% of the compounds found automatically by the library search could not be confirmed manually. This number of false positive detections was mainly a consequence of an inadequate ion ratio criterion (±30%), not considered in the automatic searching procedure. Eight compounds were detected in bees and pollen. They include insecticides/acaricides (chlorpyrifos, coumaphos, fluvalinate-tau, chlorfenvinphos, pyridaben, and propyl cresol) at a concentration range of 1-1207 μg kg
-1 , herbicides (oxyfluorfen) at a concentration range of 212-1773 μg kg-1 and a growth regulator hormone (methoprene). Some compounds were detected only in pollen; such as herbicides (clomazone), insecticides/acaricides and fungicides used to control Varroa mites as benzylbenzoate, bufencarb, allethrin, permethrin, eugenol and cyprodinil. Additional compounds were detected only in bees: flamprop-methyl, 2-methylphenol (2-49 μg kg-1 ) and naphthalene (1-23 μg kg-1 ). The proposed method presents important advantages as it can avoid the use of an unachievable number of analytical standards considered target compounds "a priori" but not present in the analyzed samples., (Copyright © 2017 Elsevier Ltd. 22. Dielectric relaxation in concentrated nonaqueous colloidal suspensions.

- Abstract
In this work we report on the permittivity of suspensions of elongated goethite particles in silicone oils of different viscosities. In spite of the low conductivity of the systems, the electrode polarization is significant. To correct this phenomenon, the procedure chosen is the one called logarithmic derivative of the real part of the permittivity, and it proves to efficiently reduce the effect of electrodes to the extent that the spectra of pure liquids are flat in the accessible frequency range (20 Hz-1 MHz). In our suspensions, we observe the presence of a dielectric relaxation for frequencies in the range 4-40 kHz. In principle, such relaxations might be ascribed to the Maxwell-Wagner (MW) polarization. However, it is found that both the characteristic frequency and the relaxation amplitude of the suspensions increase with volume fraction, something unexpected for an MW relaxation. Such discrepancy can be explained by considering the Frenkel-Trukhan model, which reproduces the Maxwell-Wagner results in conditions of thin electrical double layers (which it is not our case). An excellent agreement is found between our data and the model predictions, using only the particle surface charge as a parameter., (Copyright © 2014 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.)

- Abstract
Introduction: It has been shown that the innate immune system mediates acute lung inflammation triggered by intestinal trauma. Sexual dimorphism modulates the profile of TH1 and TH2 lymphocytes, and accordingly sex hormones may modulate acute lung inflammation by intestinal ischemia/reperfusion (I/R). Studies indicate that female rats are relatively resistant to organ injury caused by hemorrhagic shock and that the gut of female is more resistant than that of the male to deleterious effects of ischemic injury. At the present study, we investigated the effect of estradiol (E(2)) on the lung inflammation after intestinal I/R and its interaction with the nitric oxide (NO) pathway., Methods: Anesthetized female rats submitted or not to 7 days ovariectomy (OVx) were subjected to occlusion of the superior mesenteric artery during 45 min, followed by 2 h of reperfusion. Groups of rats were treated with E(2) (17β-estradiol, 280 μg/kg, s.c.) 24 h before ischemia and/or with the nonselective NO synthase inhibitor L-NAME (Nω-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester hydrochloride) (5 mg/kg, i.v.). In a parallel set of experiments, the selective NO synthase inhibitor, aminoguanidine (50 mg/kg i.v.), was given 1 h before ischemia. In all groups, lung vascular permeability (LVP) was assessed using the Evans blue dye extravasation method, neutrophil recruitment to the tissues by the standard myeloperoxidase (MPO) method, and endothelial NO synthase (eNOS) protein expression by Western blot., Results: In OVx rats, LVP and MPO were increased after intestinal I/R as compared with intact controls. Estradiol reverted the LVP, but not MPO. Aminoguanidine reduced LVP in OVx rats. The E(2) protective effect on LVP was abolished by L-NAME; moreover, an increase in LVP even when compared with OVx rats treated only with L-NAME was observed. In addition, lung eNOS protein expression was reduced in OVx-I/R rats in comparison to intact controls and the E(2) inhibited this effect., Conclusions: Estradiol treatment is able to reduce lung inflammation due to intestinal I/R, but with the concomitant blockade of NOS activity, this effect is abolished. Nitric oxide probably reduces the vascular deleterious effects of intestinal I/R, and E(2) pretreatment reduces lung inflammation after intestinal I/R and exerts these effects by modulating eNOS protein expression in the lungs.
