This study investigates the application of machine/deep learning to classify snoring sounds excited at different levels of the upper airway in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) using data from drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE). The snoring sounds of 39 subjects were analyzed and labeled according to the Velum, Oropharynx, Tongue Base, and Epiglottis (VOTE) classification system. The dataset, comprising 5,173 one-second segments, was used to train and test models, including Support Vector Machine (SVM), Bidirectional Long Short-Term Memory (BiLSTM), and ResNet-50. The ResNet-50, a convolutional neural network (CNN), showed the best overall performance in classifying snoring acoustics, particularly in identifying multi-level obstructions. The study emphasizes the potential of integrating snoring acoustics with deep learning to improve the diagnosis and treatment of OSA. However, challenges such as limited sample size, data imbalance, and differences between pharmacologically induced and natural snoring sounds were noted, suggesting further research to enhance model accuracy and generalizability.

Continuum robots can be miniaturized to just a few millimeters in diameter. Among these, notched tubular continuum robots (NTCR) show great potential in many delicate applications. Existing works in robotic modeling focus on kinematics and dynamics but still face challenges in reproducing the robot's morphology -- a significant factor that can expand the research landscape of continuum robots, especially for those with asymmetric continuum structures. This paper proposes a dual stereo vision-based method for the three-dimensional morphological reconstruction of millimeter-scale NTCRs. The method employs two oppositely located stationary binocular cameras to capture the point cloud of the NTCR, then utilizes predefined geometry as a reference for the KD tree method to relocate the capture point clouds, resulting in a morphologically correct NTCR despite the low-quality raw point cloud collection. The method has been proved feasible for an NTCR with a 3.5 mm diameter, capturing 14 out of 16 notch features, with the measurements generally centered around the standard of 1.5 mm, demonstrating the capability of revealing morphological details. In iron-based superconductor Fe(Se,Te), a flat band-like feature near the Fermi level was observed around the Brillouin zone center in the superconducting state. It is under debate whether this is the evidence on the presence of the BCS-BEC crossover in the superconductor. High-resolution laser-based angle-resolved photoemission measurements are carried out on high quality single crystals of FeSe0.45Te0.55 superconductor to address the issue. By employing different polarization geometries, we have resolved and isolated the dyz band and the topological surface band, making it possible to study their superconducting behaviors separately. The dyz band alone does not form a flat band-like feature in the superconducting state and the measured dispersion can be well described by the BCS picture. We find that the flat band-like feature is formed from the combination of the dyz band and the topological surface state band in the superconducting state. These results reveal the origin of the flat band-like feature and rule out the presence of BCS-BEC crossover in Fe(Se,Te) superconductor.

We present foundation language models developed to power Apple Intelligence features, including a ~3 billion parameter model designed to run efficiently on devices and a large server-based language model designed for Private Cloud Compute. These models are designed to perform a wide range of tasks efficiently, accurately, and responsibly. This report describes the model architecture, the data used to train the model, the training process, how the models are optimized for inference, and the evaluation results. We highlight our focus on Responsible AI and how the principles are applied throughout the model development.

This report introduces the Qwen2 series, the latest addition to our large language models and large multimodal models. We release a comprehensive suite of foundational and instruction-tuned language models, encompassing a parameter range from 0.5 to 72 billion, featuring dense models and a Mixture-of-Experts model. Qwen2 surpasses most prior open-weight models, including its predecessor Qwen1.5, and exhibits competitive performance relative to proprietary models across diverse benchmarks on language understanding, generation, multilingual proficiency, coding, mathematics, and reasoning. The flagship model, Qwen2-72B, showcases remarkable performance: 84.2 on MMLU, 37.9 on GPQA, 64.6 on HumanEval, 89.5 on GSM8K, and 82.4 on BBH as a base language model. The instruction-tuned variant, Qwen2-72B-Instruct, attains 9.1 on MT-Bench, 48.1 on Arena-Hard, and 35.7 on LiveCodeBench. Moreover, Qwen2 demonstrates robust multilingual capabilities, proficient in approximately 30 languages, spanning English, Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Russian, Korean, Japanese, Thai, Vietnamese, and more, underscoring its versatility and global reach. In the context of proxy modeling for process systems, traditional data-driven deep learning approaches frequently encounter significant challenges, such as substantial training costs induced by large amounts of data, and limited generalization capabilities. As a promising alternative, physics-aware models incorporate partial physics knowledge to ameliorate these challenges. Although demonstrating efficacy, they fall short in terms of exploration depth and universality. To address these shortcomings, we introduce a physics-aware proxy model (PAPM) that fully incorporates partial prior physics of process systems, which includes multiple input conditions and the general form of conservation relations, resulting in better out-of-sample generalization. Additionally, PAPM contains a holistic temporal-spatial stepping module for flexible adaptation across various process systems. Through systematic comparisons with state-of-the-art pure data-driven and physics-aware models across five two-dimensional benchmarks in nine generalization tasks, PAPM notably achieves an average performance improvement of 6.7%, while requiring fewer FLOPs, and just 1% of the parameters compared to the prior leading method. Affective computing stands at the forefront of artificial intelligence (AI), seeking to imbue machines with the ability to comprehend and respond to human emotions. Central to this field is emotion recognition, which endeavors to identify and interpret human emotional states from different modalities, such as speech, facial images, text, and physiological signals. In recent years, important progress has been made in generative models, including Autoencoder, Generative Adversarial Network, Diffusion Model, and Large Language Model. These models, with their powerful data generation capabilities, emerge as pivotal tools in advancing emotion recognition. However, up to now, there remains a paucity of systematic efforts that review generative technology for emotion recognition. This survey aims to bridge the gaps in the existing literature by conducting a comprehensive analysis of over 320 research papers until June 2024. Specifically, this survey will firstly introduce the mathematical principles of different generative models and the commonly used datasets. Subsequently, through a taxonomy, it will provide an in-depth analysis of how generative techniques address emotion recognition based on different modalities in several aspects, including data augmentation, feature extraction, semi-supervised learning, cross-domain, etc. Finally, the review will outline future research directions, emphasizing the potential of generative models to advance the field of emotion recognition and enhance the emotional intelligence of AI systems., Comment: Under Review

An adequate understanding of NOx interacting chemistry is a prerequisite for a smoother transition to carbon lean and carbon free fuels such as ammonia and hydrogen. In this regard, this study presents a comprehensive study on the H atom abstraction by NO2 from C3 to C7 alkynes and dienes forming 3 HNO2 isomers (i.e., TRANS HONO, HNO2, and CIS HONO), encompassing 8 hydrocarbons and 24 reactions. Through a combination of high level quantum chemistry computation, the rate coefficients for all studied reactions, over a temperature range from 298 to 2000 K, are computed based on Transition State Theory using the Master Equation System Solver program with considering unsymmetric tunneling corrections. Comprehensive analysis of branching ratios elucidates the diversity and similarities between different species, different HNO2 isomers, and different abstraction sites. Incorporating the calculated rate parameters into a recent chemistry model reveals the significant influences of this type of reaction on model performance, where the updated model is consistently more reactive for all the alkynes and dienes studied in predicting autoignition characteristics. Sensitivity and flux analyses are further conducted, through which the importance of H atom abstractions by NO2 is highlighted. With the updated rate parameters, the branching ratios in fuel consumption clearly shifts towards H atom abstractions by NO2 while away from H atom abstractions by OH. Using $(2712.4 \pm 14.3) \times 10^6~\psi$(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, we search for the hadronic transition $h_c \to \pi^+\pi^-J/\psi$ via $\psi(3686)\to \pi^0 h_c$. No significant signal is observed. We set the most stringent upper limits to date on the branching fractions $\mathcal{B}(\psi(3686)\to \pi^0 h_c)\times\mathcal{B}(h_c\to\pi^+\pi^-J/\psi)$ and $\mathcal{B}(h_c \to \pi^+\pi^-J/\psi)$ at the 90$\%$ confidence level, which are determined to be $6.7\times 10^{-7}$ and $9.4 \times10^{-4}$, respectively.

Fake audio detection is an emerging active topic. A growing number of literatures have aimed to detect fake utterance, which are mostly generated by Text-to-speech (TTS) or voice conversion (VC). However, countermeasures against impersonation remain an underexplored area. Impersonation is a fake type that involves an imitator replicating specific traits and speech style of a target speaker. Unlike TTS and VC, which often leave digital traces or signal artifacts, impersonation involves live human beings producing entirely natural speech, rendering the detection of impersonation audio a challenging task. Thus, we propose a novel method that integrates speaker profiles into the process of impersonation audio detection. Speaker profiles are inherent characteristics that are challenging for impersonators to mimic accurately, such as speaker's age, job. We aim to leverage these features to extract discriminative information for detecting impersonation audio. Moreover, there is no large impersonated speech corpora available for quantitative study of impersonation impacts. To address this gap, we further design the first large-scale, diverse-speaker Chinese impersonation dataset, named ImPersonation Audio Detection (IPAD), to advance the community's research on impersonation audio detection. We evaluate several existing fake audio detection methods on our proposed dataset IPAD, demonstrating its necessity and the challenges. In this Letter, a systematic study of the weak radiative hyperon decay $\Xi^{0}\to\Lambda\gamma$ at an electron-positron collider using entangled $\Xi^{0}\bar{\Xi}^{0}$ pair events is presented. The absolute branching fraction for this decay has been measured for the first time, and is $\left(1.347 \pm 0.066_{\mathrm stat.}\pm0.054_{\mathrm syst.}\right)\times 10^{-3}$. The decay asymmetry parameter, which characterizes the effect of parity violation in the decay, is determined to be $-0.741 \pm 0.062_{\mathrm stat.}\pm 0.019_{\mathrm syst.}$. The obtained results are consistent with the world average values within the uncertainties, offering valuable insights into the underlying mechanism governing the weak radiative hyperon decays. The charge conjugation parity ($CP$) symmetries of branching fraction and decay asymmetry parameter in the decay are also studied. The rare electromagnetic $J/\psi \to \mu^+\mu^-\mu^+\mu^-$ decay is observed with a significance greatly exceeding the discovery threshold, using proton-proton collision data collected by the LHCb experiment during 2016-2018 at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $5.4\,\text{fb}^{-1}$. The rate of this decay is measured relative to that of the $J/\psi \to \mu^+\mu^-$ mode. LSMR is a widely recognized method for solving least squares problems via the double QR decomposition. Various preconditioning techniques have been explored to improve its efficiency. One issue that arises when implementing these preconditioning techniques is the need to solve two linear systems per iterative step. In this paper, to tackle this issue, among others, a modified LSMR method (MLSMR), in which only one linear system per iterative step needs to be solved instead of two, is introduced, and then it is integrated with the idea of flexible GMRES to yield a flexible MLSMR method (FMLSMR). Interlayer sliding ferroelectricity has been discovered in a variety of 2D materials with superb features such as atomic thickness, fast response, and fatigue resistance. So far, research on this phenomenon has been limited to fundamental physics and electronic applications, leaving its potential for electromechanical actuation unexplored. In this work, we design an atomic-scale actuator based on sliding ferroelectricity and field-tunable interfacial friction. With a prototype based on parallelly stacked bilayer h-BN sandwiched between gold contacts, we show how an alternating electric field can drive the bilayer into controlled crawling motions and how uniaxial strain can steer the crawl direction. Using numerical simulations, we demonstrate the actuator's robust operation under a wide range of drive signals, friction scales, and frictional variations. We further provide experimental directions on how to realize field-tunable friction on h-BN interfaces. The wireless-ready actuation mechanism can be generalized to many 2D material systems possessing sliding ferroelectricity and integrated into flexible electronics platforms, opening new avenues in the development of intelligent nanorobotics.

Dual function radar and communication (DFRC) is a promising research direction within integrated sensing and communication (ISAC), improving hardware and spectrum efficiency by merging sensing and communication (S&C) functionalities into a shared platform. However, the DFRC receiver (DFRC-R) is tasked with both uplink communication signal detection and simultaneously target-related parameter estimation from the echoes, leading to issues with mutual interference. In this paper, a projection-based scheme is proposed to equivalently transform the joint signal detection and target estimation problem into a joint signal detection process across multiple snapshots. Compared with conventional successive interference cancellation (SIC) schemes, our proposed approach achieves a higher signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), and a higher ergodic rate when the radar signal is non-negligible. Nonetheless, it introduces an ill-conditioned signal detection problem, which is addressed using a non-linear detector. Ultrathin metasurface holograms, with thicknesses comparable to the operating wavelength, leverage multiple degrees of freedom of light to address independent image channels, thereby significantly enhancing information capacity. Although the wavelength of light can be used to encode holographic image channels, high-capacity wavelength-multiplexing holography has traditionally been achieved only through 3D volume holograms based on Bragg diffraction. We demonstrate ultranarrow-linewidth wavelength-vortex multiplexing holography in ultrathin metasurface holograms. By applying dispersion engineering to the elementary grating functions of a multiplexing hologram, we develop a sparse k-vector-filtering aperture array in momentum space that achieves sharp wavelength selectivity in conjunction with orbital angular momentum selectivity. Further leveraging transformer neural networks for the design of phase-only multiplexing holograms, we reconstruct up to 118 independent image channels from a single metasurface hologram, achieving an ultranarrow linewidth of 2 nm in the visible range. Finally, we apply the developed wavelength-vortex multiplexing metasurface holograms for holographic visual cryptography, achieving unprecedented security with an information rate more than 2500 times higher than that of traditional visual cryptography schemes. Our results open exciting avenues for the use of metasurface holograms in various applications, including 3D displays, holographic encryption, beam shaping, LiDAR, microscopy, data storage, and optical artificial intelligence.

With the rapid development of the satellite industry, the information transmission network based on communication satellites has gradually become a major and important part of the future satellite ground integration network. However, the low transmission efficiency of the satellite data relay back mission has become a problem that is currently constraining the construction of the system and needs to be solved urgently. Effectively planning the task of satellite ground networking by reasonably scheduling resources is crucial for the efficient transmission of task data. In this paper, we hope to provide a task execution scheme that maximizes the profit of the networking task for satellite ground network planning considering feeding mode (SGNPFM). To solve the SGNPFM problem, a mixed-integer planning model with the objective of maximizing the gain of the link-building task is constructed, which considers various constraints of the satellite in the feed-switching mode. Based on the problem characteristics, we propose a distance similarity-based genetic optimization algorithm (DSGA), which considers the state characteristics between the tasks and introduces a weighted Euclidean distance method to determine the similarity between the tasks. To obtain more high-quality solutions, different similarity evaluation methods are designed to assist the algorithm in intelligently screening individuals. The DSGA also uses an adaptive crossover strategy based on similarity mechanism, which guides the algorithm to achieve efficient population search. In addition, a task scheduling algorithm considering the feed-switching mode is designed for decoding the algorithm to generate a high-quality scheme. This research aims to investigate the effects of information cocooning on group mood changes caused by information spreading. The simulation of the realistic network evolution process is realized at the structural level by building a network evolution model based on individual viewpoints. Abstracting the accuracy of the real intelligent recommendation process by setting RA (Recommended Accuracy). By analyzing the information cocoon effect due to the recommendation in the comment section, we provide the structural basis of spreading for the dynamics model. A dynamics model of emotion spreading is developed to explore the trend of individual emotion spreading and to quantify the change of group emotion. Through experiments and analysis, this paper concludes that the information cocoon has a positive effect on the stability of group emotions, and that the H-CAC (Hidden Comment Area Cocoon) structure exists widely in real online social networks, and can produce a protective "harbor" effect in the competition of public opinion and cognitive games. The validity of the model is verified by comparison with real cases and generalization ability experiments. This work provides a multi-perspective analysis and visualization, providing more quantitative results. The research is expected to provide new perspectives and tools for understanding the reality of information cocooning and expanding the scenarios of its use.

Measurements of the strong-phase difference between $D^0$ and $\bar{D}^0\to\pi^+\pi^-\pi^+\pi^-$ are performed in bins of phase space. The study exploits a sample of quantum-correlated $D\bar{D}$ mesons collected by the BESIII experiment in $e^+e^-$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773~GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.93~fb$^{-1}$. Here, $D$ denotes a neutral charm meson in a superposition of flavor eigenstates. The reported results are valuable for measurements of the $C\!P$-violating phase $\gamma$ (also denoted $\phi_3$) in $B^\pm \to DK^\pm$, $D \to \pi^+\pi^-\pi^+\pi^-$ decays, and the binning schemes are designed to provide good statistical sensitivity to this parameter. The expected uncertainty on $\gamma$ arising from the precision of the strong-phase measurements, when applied to very large samples of $B$-meson decays, is around $1.5^\circ$ or $2^\circ$, depending on the binning scheme. The binned strong-phase parameters are combined to give a value of $F_+^{4\pi} = 0.746 \pm 0.010 \pm 0.004$ for the $C\!P$-even fraction of $D^0 \to \pi^+\pi^-\pi^+\pi^-$ decays, which is around 30\% more precise than the previous best measurement of this quantity.

Accurate classification of port wine stains (PWS, vascular malformations present at birth), is critical for subsequent treatment planning. However, the current method of classifying PWS based on the external skin appearance rarely reflects the underlying angiopathological heterogeneity of PWS lesions, resulting in inconsistent outcomes with the common vascular-targeted photodynamic therapy (V-PDT) treatments. Conversely, optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) is an ideal tool for visualizing the vascular malformations of PWS. Previous studies have shown no significant correlation between OCTA quantitative metrics and the PWS subtypes determined by the current classification approach. This study proposes a new classification approach for PWS using both OCT and OCTA. By examining the hypodermic histopathology and vascular structure of PWS, we have devised a fine-grained classification method that subdivides PWS into five distinct types. To assess the angiopathological differences of various PWS subtypes, we have analyzed six metrics related to vascular morphology and depth information of PWS lesions. The five PWS types present significant differences across all metrics compared to the conventional subtypes. Our findings suggest that an angiopathology-based classification accurately reflects the heterogeneity in PWS lesions. It is a mystery how the brain decodes color vision purely from the optic nerve signals it receives, with a core inferential challenge being how it disentangles internal perception with the correct color dimensionality from the unknown encoding properties of the eye. In this paper, we introduce a computational framework for modeling this emergence of human color vision by simulating both the eye and the cortex. Existing research often overlooks how the cortex develops color vision or represents color space internally, assuming that the color dimensionality is known a priori; however, we argue that the visual cortex has the capability and the challenge of inferring the color dimensionality purely from fluctuations in the optic nerve signals. To validate our theory, we introduce a simulation engine for biological eyes based on established vision science and generate optic nerve signals resulting from looking at natural images. Further, we propose a model of cortical learning based on self-supervised principle and show that this model naturally learns to generate color vision by disentangling retinal invariants from the sensory signals. When the retina contains N types of color photoreceptors, our simulation shows that N-dimensional color vision naturally emerges, verified through formal colorimetry. Image captioning, which generates natural language descriptions of the visual information in an image, is a crucial task in vision-language research. Previous models have typically addressed this task by aligning the generative capabilities of machines with human intelligence through statistical fitting of existing datasets. While effective for normal images, they may struggle to accurately describe those where certain parts of the image are obscured or edited, unlike humans who excel in such cases. These weaknesses they exhibit, including hallucinations and limited interpretability, often hinder performance in scenarios with shifted association patterns. In this paper, we present a generic image captioning framework that employs causal inference to make existing models more capable of interventional tasks, and counterfactually explainable. Our approach includes two variants leveraging either total effect or natural direct effect. Integrating them into the training process enables models to handle counterfactual scenarios, increasing their generalizability. Extensive experiments on various datasets show that our method effectively reduces hallucinations and improves the model's faithfulness to images, demonstrating high portability across both small-scale and large-scale image-to-text models. A panel dataset satisfies marginal homogeneity if the time-specific marginal distributions are homogeneous or time-invariant. Marginal homogeneity is relevant in economic settings such as dynamic discrete games. In this paper, we propose several tests for the hypothesis of marginal homogeneity and investigate their properties. We consider an asymptotic framework in which the number of individuals n in the panel diverges, and the number of periods T is fixed. We implement our tests by comparing a studentized or non-studentized T-sample version of the Cramer-von Mises statistic with a suitable critical value. We propose three methods to construct the critical value: asymptotic approximations, the bootstrap, and time permutations. We show that the first two methods result in asymptotically exact hypothesis tests. The permutation test based on a non-studentized statistic is asymptotically exact when T=2, but is asymptotically invalid when T>2. In contrast, the permutation test based on a studentized statistic is always asymptotically exact. Let $E$ be the class of finite (resp. probability) measures absolutely continuous with respect to a $\sigma$-finite Radon measure on a Polish space. We present a criterion on the quasi-regularity of Dirichlet forms on $E$ in terms of upper bound conditions given by the uniform $(L^1+L^\infty)$-norm of the extrinsic derivative. As applications, we construct a class of general type Markov processes on $E$ via quasi-regular Dirichlet forms containing the diffusion, jump and killing terms. Moreover, stochastic extrinsic derivative flows on $E$ are studied by using quasi-regular Dirichlet forms, which in particular provide martingale solutions to SDEs on these two spaces, with drifts given by the extrinsic derivative of entropy functionals.

CoSb3, a skutterudite compound, is key in studying thermoelectric materials. Under compression, it undergoes a 'self-insertion' isostructural transition, redistributing large Sb atoms among crystallographic sites. We investigated CoSb3's structural stability up to 70 GPa using single crystal X-ray diffraction and high-resolution X-ray scattering, including Bragg Coherent Diffraction Imaging. We examined the material in three pressure transmitting media (PTMs), exploring how PTMs and nonhydrostatic stresses affect CoSb3. Notably, the 'self-insertion' transition may reduce or even make compressibility negative. This study aims to reveal the important role and the respective rate rules of H atom abstractions by NO2 for better understanding NOX hydrocarbon interactions. To this end, H atom abstractions from C2 to C5 alkanes and alkenes 15 species by NO2, leading to the formation of three HNO2 isomers (TRANS HONO, HNO2, and CIS HONO) and their respective products 45 reactions, are first characterized through high-level quantum chemistry computation, where electronic structures, single point energies, C H bond dissociation energies and 1 D hindered rotor potentials are determined at DLPNO CCSD T cc pVDZ M06 2X 6 311 plus plus g(d,p). The rate coefficients for all studied reactions, over a temperature range from 298.15 to 2000 K, are computed using Transition State Theory with the Master Equation System Solver program. Comprehensive analysis of branching ratios elucidates the diversity and similarities between different species, HNO2 isomers, and abstraction site, from which accurate rate rules are determined. Incorporating the updated rate parameters into a detailed chemical kinetic model reveals the significant influences of this type of reaction on model prediction results, where the simulated ignition delay times are either prolonged or reduced, depending on the original rate parameters presented in the selected model. Sensitivity and flux analysis further highlight the critical role of this type of reaction in affecting system reactivity and reaction pathways, emphasizing the need for adequately representing these kinetics in existing chemistry models. Current artificial intelligence (AI) models often focus on enhancing performance through meticulous parameter tuning and optimization techniques. However, the fundamental design principles behind these models receive comparatively less attention, which can limit our understanding of their potential and constraints. This comprehensive review explores the diverse design inspirations that have shaped modern AI models, i.e., brain-inspired artificial intelligence (BIAI). We present a classification framework that categorizes BIAI approaches into physical structure-inspired and human behavior-inspired models. We also examine the real-world applications where different BIAI models excel, highlighting their practical benefits and deployment challenges. By delving into these areas, we provide new insights and propose future research directions to drive innovation and address current gaps in the field. The integration of point and voxel representations is becoming more common in LiDAR-based 3D object detection. However, this combination often struggles with capturing semantic information effectively. Moreover, relying solely on point features within regions of interest can lead to information loss and limitations in local feature representation. To tackle these challenges, we propose a novel two-stage 3D object detector, called Point-Voxel Attention Fusion Network (PVAFN). PVAFN leverages an attention mechanism to improve multi-modal feature fusion during the feature extraction phase. In the refinement stage, it utilizes a multi-pooling strategy to integrate both multi-scale and region-specific information effectively. The point-voxel attention mechanism adaptively combines point cloud and voxel-based Bird's-Eye-View (BEV) features, resulting in richer object representations that help to reduce false detections. Additionally, a multi-pooling enhancement module is introduced to boost the model's perception capabilities. This module employs cluster pooling and pyramid pooling techniques to efficiently capture key geometric details and fine-grained shape structures, thereby enhancing the integration of local and global features. In speaker tracking research, integrating and complementing multi-modal data is a crucial strategy for improving the accuracy and robustness of tracking systems. However, tracking with incomplete modalities remains a challenging issue due to noisy observations caused by occlusion, acoustic noise, and sensor failures. Especially when there is missing data in multiple modalities, the performance of existing multi-modal fusion methods tends to decrease. To this end, we propose a Global-Local Distillation-based Tracker (GLDTracker) for robust audio-visual speaker tracking. GLDTracker is driven by a teacher-student distillation model, enabling the flexible fusion of incomplete information from each modality. The teacher network processes global signals captured by camera and microphone arrays, and the student network handles local information subject to visual occlusion and missing audio channels. By transferring knowledge from teacher to student, the student network can better adapt to complex dynamic scenes with incomplete observations. In the student network, a global feature reconstruction module based on the generative adversarial network is constructed to reconstruct global features from feature embedding with missing local information. Furthermore, a multi-modal multi-level fusion attention is introduced to integrate the incomplete feature and the reconstructed feature, leveraging the complementarity and consistency of audio-visual and global-local features. Experimental results on the AV16.3 dataset demonstrate that the proposed GLDTracker outperforms existing state-of-the-art audio-visual trackers and achieves leading performance on both standard and incomplete modalities datasets, highlighting its superiority and robustness in complex conditions. ChatGPT has enabled third-party developers to create plugins to expand ChatGPT's capabilities.These plugins are distributed through OpenAI's plugin store, making them easily accessible to users. With ChatGPT as the backbone, this app ecosystem has illustrated great business potential by offering users personalized services in a conversational manner. Nonetheless, many crucial aspects regarding app development, deployment, and security of this ecosystem have yet to be thoroughly studied in the research community, potentially hindering a broader adoption by both developers and users. In this work, we conduct the first comprehensive study of the ChatGPT app ecosystem, aiming to illuminate its landscape for our research community. Our study examines the distribution and deployment models in the integration of LLMs and third-party apps, and assesses their security and privacy implications. We uncover an uneven distribution of functionality among ChatGPT plugins, highlighting prevalent and emerging topics. We also identify severe flaws in the authentication and user data protection for third-party app APIs integrated within LLMs, revealing a concerning status quo of security and privacy in this app ecosystem. The rapid progress in Deep Learning (DL) and Large Language Models (LLMs) has exponentially increased demands of computational power and bandwidth. This, combined with the high costs of faster computing chips and interconnects, has significantly inflated High Performance Computing (HPC) construction costs. To address these challenges, we introduce the Fire-Flyer AI-HPC architecture, a synergistic hardware-software co-design framework and its best practices. For DL training, we deployed the Fire-Flyer 2 with 10,000 PCIe A100 GPUs, achieved performance approximating the DGX-A100 while reducing costs by half and energy consumption by 40%. We specifically engineered HFReduce to accelerate allreduce communication and implemented numerous measures to keep our Computation-Storage Integrated Network congestion-free. Through our software stack, including HaiScale, 3FS, and HAI-Platform, we achieved substantial scalability by overlapping computation and communication. This paper considers a multi-functional orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system with integrated sensing, communication, and powering (ISCAP), in which a multi-antenna base station (BS) transmits OFDM signals to simultaneously deliver information to multiple information receivers (IRs), provide energy supply to multiple energy receivers (ERs), and sense potential targets based on the echo signals. To facilitate ISCAP, the BS employs the joint transmit beamforming design by sending dedicated sensing/energy beams jointly with information beams. Furthermore, we consider the beam scanning for sensing, in which the joint beams scan in different directions over time to sense potential targets. In order to ensure the sensing beam scanning performance and meet the communication and powering requirements, it is essential to properly schedule IRs and ERs and design the resource allocation over time, frequency, and space. More specifically, we optimize the joint transmit beamforming over multiple OFDM symbols and subcarriers, with the objective of minimizing the average beampattern matching error of beam scanning for sensing, subject to the constraints on the average communication rates at IRs and the average harvested power at ERs. We find converged high-quality solutions to the formulated problem by proposing efficient iterative algorithms based on advanced optimization techniques. We also develop various heuristic designs based on the principles of zero-forcing (ZF) beamforming, round-robin user scheduling, and time switching, respectively. Numerical results show that our proposed algorithms adaptively generate information and sensing/energy beams at each time-frequency slot to match the scheduled IRs/ERs with the desired scanning beam, significantly outperforming the heuristic designs., Comment: 13 pages, 12 figures

The frequent occurrence of cyber risks and their serious economic consequences have created a growth market for cyber insurance. The calculation of aggregate losses, an essential step in insurance pricing, has attracted considerable attention in recent years. This research develops a path-based k-generation risk contagion model in a tree-shaped network structure that incorporates the impact of the origin contagion location and the heterogeneity of security levels on contagion probability and local loss, distinguishing it from most existing models. Furthermore, we discuss the properties of k-generation risk contagion among multi-paths using the concept of d-separation in Bayesian network (BN), and derive explicit expressions for the mean and variance of local loss on a single path. By combining these results, we compute the mean and variance values for aggregate loss across the entire network until time $t$, which is crucial for accurate cyber insurance pricing. Finally, through numerical calculations and relevant probability properties, we have obtained several findings that are valuable to risk managers and insurers.

Multi-GPU nodes are increasingly common in the rapidly evolving landscape of exascale supercomputers. On these systems, GPUs on the same node are connected through dedicated networks, with bandwidths up to a few terabits per second. However, gauging performance expectations and maximizing system efficiency is challenging due to different technologies, design options, and software layers. This paper comprehensively characterizes three supercomputers - Alps, Leonardo, and LUMI - each with a unique architecture and design. We focus on performance evaluation of intra-node and inter-node interconnects on up to 4096 GPUs, using a mix of intra-node and inter-node benchmarks. By analyzing its limitations and opportunities, we aim to offer practical guidance to researchers, system architects, and software developers dealing with multi-GPU supercomputing. Our results show that there is untapped bandwidth, and there are still many opportunities for optimization, ranging from network to software optimization.

Context: Online collaborative creation of models is becoming commonplace. Collaborative modeling using chatbots and natural language may lower the barriers to modeling for users from different domains. Objective: We compare the perceived usability of two similarly online collaborative modeling tools, the SOCIO chatbot and the Creately web-based tool. Method: We conducted a crossover experiment with 66 participants. The evaluation instrument was based on the System Usability Scale (SUS). We performed a quantitative and qualitative exploration, employing inferential statistics and thematic analysis. Results: The results indicate that chatbots enabling natural language communication enhance communication and collaboration efficiency and improve the user experience. Conclusion: Chatbots need to improve guidance and help for novices, but they appear beneficial for enhancing user experience.

Context: Recent developments in natural language processing have facilitated the adoption of chatbots in typically collaborative software engineering tasks (such as diagram modelling). Families of experiments can assess the performance of tools and processes and, at the same time, alleviate some of the typical shortcomings of individual experiments (e.g., inaccurate and potentially biased results due to a small number of participants). Objective: Compare the usability of a chatbot for collaborative modelling (i.e., SOCIO) and an online web tool (i.e., Creately). Method: We conducted a family of three experiments to evaluate the usability of SOCIO against the Creately online collaborative tool in academic settings. Results: The student participants were faster at building class diagrams using the chatbot than with the online collaborative tool and more satisfied with SOCIO. Besides, the class diagrams built using the chatbot tended to be more concise -albeit slightly less complete. Conclusion: Chatbots appear to be helpful for building class diagrams. In fact, our study has helped us to shed light on the future direction for experimentation in this field and lays the groundwork for researching the applicability of chatbots in diagramming.

Intense terahertz (THz) radiation in free space offers multifaceted capabilities for accelerating electron, understanding the mesoscale architecture in (bio)materials, elementary excitation and so on. Recently popularized spintronic THz emitters (STEs) with their versatility such as ultra-broadband, cost-effectiveness, large-size and ease for-integration have become one of the most promising alternative for the next generation of intense THz sources. Nevertheless, the typical W| Co20Fe60B20 | Pt necessitates an external-magnetic-field to saturate magnetization for stable operation, limiting its scalability for achieving higher THz field with uniform distribution over larger sample areas. Here we demonstrate the methodologies of enhancing the high-field THz radiation of external-magnetic-field-free IrMn3 | Co20Fe60B20 |W heterostructure via optimizing the substrate with superior thermal conductivity and integrating a one-dimensional photonic crystal (PC) structure to maximize the radiation efficiency. Under the excitation of a Ti: sapphire femtosecond laser amplifier with central wavelength of 800 nm, pulse duration of 35 fs, and repetition rate of 1 kHz and maximum single pulse energy of 5.5 mJ, we successfully generate intense THz radiation with focal peak electric field up to 1.1 MV/cm with frequency range covering 0.1-10 THz without external-magnetic-fields. These high-field STEs will also enable other applications such as ultra-broadband high-field THz spectroscopy and polarization-based large-size strong-field THz imaging.

This paper proposes FAST-LIVO2: a fast, direct LiDAR-inertial-visual odometry framework to achieve accurate and robust state estimation in SLAM tasks and provide great potential in real-time, onboard robotic applications. FAST-LIVO2 fuses the IMU, LiDAR and image measurements efficiently through an ESIKF. To address the dimension mismatch between the heterogeneous LiDAR and image measurements, we use a sequential update strategy in the Kalman filter. To enhance the efficiency, we use direct methods for both the visual and LiDAR fusion, where the LiDAR module registers raw points without extracting edge or plane features and the visual module minimizes direct photometric errors without extracting ORB or FAST corner features. The fusion of both visual and LiDAR measurements is based on a single unified voxel map where the LiDAR module constructs the geometric structure for registering new LiDAR scans and the visual module attaches image patches to the LiDAR points. To enhance the accuracy of image alignment, we use plane priors from the LiDAR points in the voxel map (and even refine the plane prior) and update the reference patch dynamically after new images are aligned. Furthermore, to enhance the robustness of image alignment, FAST-LIVO2 employs an on-demanding raycast operation and estimates the image exposure time in real time. Lastly, we detail three applications of FAST-LIVO2: UAV onboard navigation demonstrating the system's computation efficiency for real-time onboard navigation, airborne mapping showcasing the system's mapping accuracy, and 3D model rendering (mesh-based and NeRF-based) underscoring the suitability of our reconstructed dense map for subsequent rendering tasks. The bubble nuclei are important components of exotic nuclear structures characterized by special depletions of central densities. Focusing on bubble structures of $^{36}$Ar, the characterizations of bubble nuclei were explored with the framework of the extended quantum molecular dynamics model. Three density distribution modes were uncovered for the first time, i.e. micro-bubble, bubble, and cluster resonances, which show unique spectral signature compared to the monopole resonance spectrum as the excitation intensity was increased in bubbles. Of pivotal importance is the revelation that the bubble mode's oscillation frequency closely resembles macroscopic bubble dynamics, building a connection between classical macroscopic phenomena and the quantum complexity of the nuclear structure. The discovery marks a crucial step forward in deciphering the relationship between classical and quantum domains within the enigmatic world of atomic nuclei.

Large Language Models (LLMs) have shown remarkable reasoning performance but struggle with multi-step deductive reasoning involving a series of rule application steps, especially when rules are presented non-sequentially. Our preliminary analysis shows that while LLMs excel in single-step rule application, their performance drops significantly in multi-step scenarios due to the challenge in rule grounding. It requires anchoring the applicable rule and supporting facts at each step, amidst multiple input rules, facts, and inferred facts. To address this, we propose augmenting LLMs with external working memory and introduce a neurosymbolic framework for rule application. The memory stores facts and rules in both natural language and symbolic forms, enabling precise tracking. Utilizing this memory, our framework iteratively performs symbolic rule grounding and LLM-based rule implementation. The former matches predicates and variables of symbolic rules and facts to ground applicable rules at each step. Experiments indicate our framework's effectiveness in rule application and its robustness across various steps and settings~\footnote{Code and data are available at \url{https://github.com/SiyuanWangw/RuleApplication}.}.

The design of pedestrian detectors seldom considers the unique characteristics of this task and usually follows the common strategies for general object detection. To explore the potential of these characteristics, we take the perspective effect in pedestrian datasets as an example and propose the mean height aided suppression for post-processing. This method rejects predictions that fall at levels with a low possibility of containing any pedestrians or that have an abnormal height compared to the average. To achieve this, the existence score and mean height generators are proposed. Comprehensive experiments on various datasets and detectors are performed; the choice of hyper-parameters is discussed in depth. The proposed method is easy to implement and is plug-and-play. Results show that the proposed methods significantly improve detection accuracy when applied to different existing pedestrian detectors and datasets. The combination of mean height aided suppression with particular detectors outperforms state-of-the-art pedestrian detectors on Caltech and Citypersons datasets.

The Rapid and accurate identification of Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) is crucial for unraveling their origins. However, current burst search algorithms frequently miss low-threshold signals or lack universality for observations. In this study, we propose a novel approach utilizing transfer learning experiment based on convolutional neural network (CNN) to establish a universal GRB identification method, which validated successfully using GECAM-B data. By employing data augmentation techniques, we enhance the diversity and quantity of the GRB sample. We develop a 1D CNN model with a multi-scale feature cross fusion module (MSCFM) to extract features from samples and perform classification. The comparative results demonstrated significant performance improvements following pre-training and transferring on a large-scale dataset. Our optimal model achieved an impressive accuracy of 96.41% on the source dataset of GECAM-B, and identified three previously undiscovered GRBs by contrast with manual analysis of GECAM-B observations. These innovative transfer learning and data augmentation methods presented in this work hold promise for applications in multi-satellite exploration scenarios characterized by limited data sets and a scarcity of labeled samples in high-energy astronomy., Comment: 17 pages, 7 figures

On-chip micro-ring resonators (MRRs) have been proposed for constructing delay reservoir computing (RC) systems, offering a highly scalable, high-density computational architecture that is easy to manufacture. However, most proposed RC schemes have utilized passive integrated optical components based on silicon-on-insulator (SOI), and RC systems based on lithium niobate on insulator (LNOI) have not yet been reported. The nonlinear optical effects exhibited by lithium niobate microphotonic devices introduce new possibilities for RC design. In this work, we design an RC scheme based on a series-coupled MRR array, leveraging the unique interplay between thermo-optic nonlinearity and photorefractive effects in lithium niobate. We first demonstrate the existence of three regions defined by wavelength detuning between the primary LNOI micro-ring resonator and the coupled micro-ring array, where one region achieves an optimal balance between nonlinearity and high memory capacity at extremely low input energy, leading to superior computational performance. We then discuss in detail the impact of each ring's nonlinearity and the system's symbol duration on performance. Finally, we design a wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) based multi-task parallel computing scheme, showing that the computational performance for multiple tasks matches that of single-task computations., Comment: 17 pages, 6 figures

We consider the asymptotic behavior of compressible isentropic flow when the initial mass is finite, which is modeled by the compressible Euler equation with frictional damping. It is shown in \cite{HUA} (resp.\cite{GEN}) that any $L^{\infty}$ weak entropy solution of damped compressible Euler equation converges to the Barenblatt solution with finite mass in $L^1$ norm, with convergence rates depending on the adiabatic gas exponent $\gamma$ in the case of $1<\gamma<3$ (resp.$\gamma\ge2$). Whether or not these convergence rates can be improved remains an interesting and challenging open question. In this paper, we obtain a better $L^1$ convergence rate than that in \cite{GEN}, for any $\gamma\ge2$, through a new perspective on the relationship between the density function and the Barenblatt solution of the porous medium equation. Furthermore, making intensive analysis of some relevant convex functions, we are able to obtain the same form of $L^1$ convergence rate for $1<\gamma<9/7$, which is better than that in \cite{HUA} as well.

Anomaly detection is a crucial task in various domains. Most of the existing methods assume the normal sample data clusters around a single central prototype while the real data may consist of multiple categories or subgroups. In addition, existing methods always assume all unlabeled data are normal while they inevitably contain some anomalous samples. To address these issues, we propose a reconstruction-based multi-normal prototypes learning framework that leverages limited labeled anomalies in conjunction with abundant unlabeled data for anomaly detection. Specifically, we assume the normal sample data may satisfy multi-modal distribution, and utilize deep embedding clustering and contrastive learning to learn multiple normal prototypes to represent it. Additionally, we estimate the likelihood of each unlabeled sample being normal based on the multi-normal prototypes, guiding the training process to mitigate the impact of contaminated anomalies in the unlabeled data. Extensive experiments on various datasets demonstrate the superior performance of our method compared to state-of-the-art techniques.

Autonomous driving in complex urban scenarios requires 3D perception to be both comprehensive and precise. Traditional 3D perception methods focus on object detection, resulting in sparse representations that lack environmental detail. Recent approaches estimate 3D occupancy around vehicles for a more comprehensive scene representation. However, dense 3D occupancy prediction increases computational demands, challenging the balance between efficiency and resolution. High-resolution occupancy grids offer accuracy but demand substantial computational resources, while low-resolution grids are efficient but lack detail. To address this dilemma, we introduce AdaOcc, a novel adaptive-resolution, multi-modal prediction approach. Our method integrates object-centric 3D reconstruction and holistic occupancy prediction within a single framework, performing highly detailed and precise 3D reconstruction only in regions of interest (ROIs). These high-detailed 3D surfaces are represented in point clouds, thus their precision is not constrained by the predefined grid resolution of the occupancy map. We conducted comprehensive experiments on the nuScenes dataset, demonstrating significant improvements over existing methods. In close-range scenarios, we surpass previous baselines by over 13% in IOU, and over 40% in Hausdorff distance. In summary, AdaOcc offers a more versatile and effective framework for delivering accurate 3D semantic occupancy prediction across diverse driving scenarios.

Video Moment Retrieval (VMR) aims to retrieve relevant moments of an untrimmed video corresponding to the query. While cross-modal interaction approaches have shown progress in filtering out query-irrelevant information in videos, they assume the precise alignment between the query semantics and the corresponding video moments, potentially overlooking the misunderstanding of the natural language semantics. To address this challenge, we propose a novel model called \textit{QD-VMR}, a query debiasing model with enhanced contextual understanding. Firstly, we leverage a Global Partial Aligner module via video clip and query features alignment and video-query contrastive learning to enhance the cross-modal understanding capabilities of the model. Subsequently, we employ a Query Debiasing Module to obtain debiased query features efficiently, and a Visual Enhancement module to refine the video features related to the query. Finally, we adopt the DETR structure to predict the possible target video moments. Through extensive evaluations of three benchmark datasets, QD-VMR achieves state-of-the-art performance, proving its potential to improve the accuracy of VMR.
