2. Error mitigation, optimization, and extrapolation on a trapped ion testbed

Current noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) trapped-ion devices are subject to errors which can significantly impact the accuracy of calculations if left unchecked. A form of error mitigation called zero noise extrapolation (ZNE) can decrease an algorithm's sensitivity to these errors without increasing the number of required qubits. Here, we explore different methods for integrating this error mitigation technique into the Variational Quantum Eigensolver (VQE) algorithm for calculating the ground state of the HeH+ molecule at 0.8 Angstrom in the presence of realistic noise. Using the Quantum Scientific Computing Open User Testbed (QSCOUT) trapped-ion device, we test three methods of scaling noise for extrapolation: time-stretching the two-qubit gates, scaling the sideband amplitude parameter, and inserting two-qubit gate identity operations into the ansatz circuit. We find time-stretching and sideband amplitude scaling fail to scale the noise on our particular hardware in a way that can be directly extrapolated to zero noise. Scaling our noise with global gate identity insertions and extrapolating after variational optimization, we achieve an estimate of the ground state energy within -0.004 +- 0.04 Hartree; outside chemical accuracy, but greatly improved over our non-error-mitigated estimate with error 0.127 +- 0.008 Hartree. As healthcare workers run a high and constant occupational risk of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection through exposure to biological material, vaccination is mandatory as well as the monitoring of antibody levels one to two months after complete immunisation. The aim of this descriptive cross-sectional study was to determine HBV vaccine coverage of 200 primary and secondary healthcare workers (100 each) from Šabac, Serbia and their blood anti-HBs titre. We also wanted to identify factors that could predict the titre. Anti-HBV vaccination covered all participants, of whom 89.5 % were fully vaccinated, and 85 % had a protective antibody titre. We found a statistically significant association between antibody titre and the number of received vaccine doses, chronic jaundice, autoimmune disease, and cancer in our participants. The fact that 15 % did not achieve the protective antibody titre confirms the necessity of its control after immunisation, which is not routinely carried out in most countries, Serbia included. It is, therefore, necessary to develop a detailed strategy for monitoring vaccination and serological status of healthcare workers in order to improve their safety at work. An important role should also be given to continuous education of healthcare workers from the beginning of schooling to the end of their professional career.

One of the many challenges of developing an open user testbed such as QSCOUT is providing an interface that maintains simplicity without compromising expressibility or control. This interface comprises two distinct elements: a quantum assembly language designed for specifying quantum circuits at the gate level, and a low-level counterpart used for describing gates in terms of waveforms that realize specific quantum operations. Jaqal, or "Just another quantum assembly language," is the language used in QSCOUT for gate-level descriptions of quantum circuits. JaqalPaw, or "Jaqal pulses and waveforms," is its pulse-level counterpart. Experiments with trapped ions and neutral atoms typically employ optical modulators in order to control the phase, frequency, and amplitude of light directed to individual atoms. These elements are expensive, bulky, consume substantial power, and often rely on free-space I/O channels, all of which pose scaling challenges. To support many-ion systems like trapped-ion quantum computers or miniaturized deployable devices like clocks and sensors, these elements must ultimately be microfabricated, ideally monolithically with the trap to avoid losses associated with optical coupling between physically separate components. In this work we design, fabricate, and test an optical modulator capable of monolithic integration with a surface-electrode ion trap. These devices consist of piezo-optomechanical photonic integrated circuits configured as multi-stage Mach-Zehnder modulators that are used to control the intensity of light delivered to a single trapped ion on a separate chip. We use quantum tomography employing hundreds of multi-gate sequences to enhance the sensitivity of the fidelity to the types and magnitudes of gate errors relevant to quantum computing and better characterize the performance of the modulators, ultimately measuring single qubit gate fidelities that exceed 99.7%.

In this work, we design and implement frequency-robust Molmer-Sorensen gates on a linear chain of trapped ions, using Gaussian amplitude modulation and a constant laser frequency. We select this frequency to balance the entanglement accumulation of all motional modes during the gate to produce a strong robustness to frequency error, even for long ion chains. We demonstrate this technique on a three-ion chain, achieving $<\,1\%$ reduction from peak fidelity over a $20\,$kHz range of frequency offset, and we analyze the performance of this gate design through numerical simulations on chains of two to 33 ions.

Entangling gates in trapped-ion quantum computing have primarily targeted stationary ions with initial motional distributions that are thermal and close to the ground state. However, future systems will likely incur significant non-thermal excitation due to, e.g., ion transport, longer operational times, and increased spatial extent of the trap array. In this paper, we analyze the impact of such coherent motional excitation on entangling-gate error by performing simulations of Molmer-Sorenson (MS) gates on a pair of trapped-ion qubits with both thermal and coherent excitation present in a shared motional mode at the start of the gate. We discover that a small amount of coherent displacement dramatically erodes gate performance in the presence of experimental noise, and we demonstrate that applying only limited control over the phase of the displacement can suppress this error. We then use experimental data from transported ions to analyze the impact of coherent displacement on MS-gate error under realistic conditions.

Biocompatible titanium alloys possess a balanced set of improved mechanical properties and good biocompatibility, making them crucial materials in biomedical engineering. There is an increasing demand for these new alloys with superior properties. Furthermore, there is a need to understand the relationship between parameters and properties, and machine learning is being applied to make the whole process cheaper and more efficient. The aim of this study is to develop accurate machine learning models for predicting mechanical properties: modulus of elasticity, tensile strength, and yield strength, specifically using the Extra Trees Regressor model. Compared to the previous results, an improvement of the elastic modulus prediction model was observed after the inclusion of data on heat treatment parameters and Poisson’s ratio, as seen in the reduced MAE from 7.402 to 7.160 GPa. Models were built to predict the values of tensile strength and yield strength, where iron and tin were shown as most important features respectively, while the correlation coefficients for the test set were 0.893 and 0.868.

Smjernice međunarodnih stručnih društava ukazuju da je povišena koncentracija lipoproteina(a) [Lp(a)] u krvi dugoročni neovisni čimbenik rizika za razvitak aterosklerotske kardiovaskularne bolesti (ASKVB), kao i za kalcifikacijsku stenozu aortnih zalistaka. Cilj je ovog članka koji je rezultat konsenzusa nacionalnih stručnjaka iz tog područja predstaviti najnovije spoznaje o dijagnostici i sadašnjim mogućnostima liječenja bolesnika s povišenom koncentracijom Lp(a) u krvi koje su u ovom trenutku skromne, ali i naznačiti buduće mogućnosti liječenja koje su na pomolu. Zaključak koji se može postaviti na temelju dosadašnjih spoznaja upućuje da postoji neposredna korist za bolesnike u mjerenju koncentracije Lp(a), čak i ako potpuno učinkovito farmakološko liječenje još nije dostupno. Mjerenje Lp(a) olakšava bržu i pouzdaniju identifikaciju bolesnika s visokim kardiovaskularnim rizikom i bolje upravljanje tim rizikom, odnosno upućuje na potrebu intenzivnijeg smanjivanja i liječenja ostalih čimbenika rizika za ASKVB ako je Lp(a) značajnije povećan. Izražavanje koncentracije Lp(a) preporučuje se u nmol/L izmjerene metodama kalibriranim kalibratorima čija je koncentracija izražena u nmol/L.

Kardiovaskularne bolesti (KVB) su vodeći uzrok pobola i smrtnosti diljem svijeta pa tako i u Hrvatskoj. Budući da je u većine bolesnika prisutno više poremećaja i bolesti kojima su u podlozi u najvećem dijelu isti čimbenici rizika, te kako je nužno svakom bolesniku pristupati kao osobi sa svim poremećajima, danas se govori o novoj paradigmi – kardio-reno-metaboličkom (KRM) sindromu i kardio-reno-metaboličkom zdravlju, u što je neizostavno uključeno i zdravlje mozga. Povišen sistolički arterijski tlak, LDL-kolesterol, pušenje, debljina, šećerna bolest, oštećena bubrežna funkcija, tj. kronična bubrežna bolest, u podlozi kojih je nedovoljno tjelesne aktivnosti, nezdrava prehrana s prekomjernim unosom kuhinjske soli zajedno s onečišćenjem zraka vodeći su uzroci ukupnoga pobola i smrtnosti od KRM bolesti, a napose smrtnosti od KVB. Stručnjaci iz raznih područja ključnih za KRM zdravlje napisali su ovaj dokument s ciljem da bude sastavni dio nacionalnog plana za prevenciju kroničnih nezaraznih bolesti s fokusom na KVB koji treba postati obvezujući, a utemeljen na postojećim smjernicama stručnih društava. Naglašena je važnost pravovremenog probira i postavljanja dijagnoze, no težište je stavljeno i na nužnost organiziranja i provođenja mjera primordijalne i primarne prevencije. Istaknuta je važnost multidisciplinarnoga pristupa i trajnog obrazovanja opće populacije i bolesnika kako bi se promijenile loše životne navike i povećala ustrajnost uzimanja lijekova, ali isto tako podizanje zdravstvene pismenosti zdravstvenih radnika, napose liječnika kako bi se smanjila klinička inercija.

16. Analysis of the Somatic Cell Pattern in Mastitis - Affected Cows on Three Dairy Farms in Vojvodina

Somatic cells (SCs) in milk, which include epithelial cells from the gland and blood cells, are present in milk during the normal course of milking. Increase in SCs is found in mastitis-affected dairy cows and can be a useful indicator for estimating mammary health and milk quality worldwide. The aim of this study was to determine whether there was a pattern of somatic cell count (SCC) in mastitis-affected cows on three different farms. The study was conducted on three dairy farms of high milk-producing cattle breeds in Vojvodina during 2021. Samples were taken from 15 cows from each farm, all of the cows being diagnosed with clinical and subclinical mastitis. The SCC in milk samples was determined by the microscopic reference method according to the standard (SRPS EN ISO 13366-1:2010) of the Institute for Standardization of Serbia. The value of SCC was considered as high if >200.000 cells/mL, as this is the threshold indicating secretion disorder. In order to examine the differences between the observed three farms, one-factor analysis of variance (ANOVA) was applied, while a post-hoc LSD test was used for determination of statistically significant differences between the SCC in cows on three different farms. 17. Characterization of Chestnut Tannins: Bioactive Compounds and Their Impact on Lamb Health

The objective of the present study was to characterize the chestnut (Castanea sativa Mill.) tannin product, Farmatan Plus® (Tanin Sevnica d.d., Sevnica, Slovenia), and to subsequently examine its effects on the blood metabolic parameters of fattening lambs, particularly in relation to their health status. Thirty lambs were randomly divided into three treatment groups: a control group without added tannin and two groups that received 9.46 g of the tannin product/kg of the diet dry matter (DM) and 18.87 g of the tannin product/kg of the diet DM. Metabolic parameters such as contents of total protein, globulin, urea, and liver enzymes (AST and GGT) were measured over a trial period of 60 days to evaluate the effects of tannin supplementation. This study represents the first in-depth characterization of Farmatan Plus®, demonstrating its richness in bioactive compounds such as vescalin and castalagin. The results showed no significant adverse effects on lamb health, with all parameters remaining within normal physiological ranges (p > 0.05). These results support the safe inclusion of chestnut tannins in the diet of lambs and underline their potential as a functional feed additive that can positively influence the health and growth performance of ruminants.

18. Optimizing Hepatitis C Treatment Monitoring: Is Sustained Virologic Response at 4 Weeks Becoming the New Standard?

This study, conducted at two university-based infectious disease clinics, included 216 patients with chronic hepatitis C. The primary objective was to assess the positive and negative predictive values, sensitivity, and specificity of achieving a sustained virological response (SVR) at 4 weeks compared to 12 weeks post-therapy. The results demonstrated a maximum sensitivity of 100% for achieving SVR at 12 weeks after reaching SVR at 4 weeks for all analyzed genotypes, except for genotype 1b treated with EBR/GZR therapy, where the specificity was 75%. Additionally, younger age and less advanced liver fibrosis were identified as independent predictors of achieving a sustained virological response at both 4 and 12 weeks. The significant normalization of various biochemical parameters was observed after treatment, indicating an overall improvement in liver function. This study suggests that shortening the monitoring period to 4 weeks might be effective for younger patients without significant fibrosis, potentially reducing loss to follow-up, which is a critical issue in HCV treatment. These findings align with the “test and treat” approach. Further research is needed to confirm these findings and incorporate them into official guidelines, which could simplify and enhance the effectiveness of HCV treatment protocols, aiding global efforts to eliminate HCV as a public health issue by 2030.

Effective antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) is crucial for combating the rise of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), particularly in veterinary medicine. Educational programs targeting veterinary students can play a significant role in shaping their knowledge and attitudes toward antimicrobial use and stewardship. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of educational programs on the knowledge and attitudes regarding AMS among veterinary students in Serbia. A structured educational program on AMS was implemented for veterinary students at the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Novi Sad. Pre- and post-symposium assessments were conducted to measure changes in students’ knowledge and attitudes. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, including surveys and focus groups, to gather quantitative and qualitative data. The study resulted in significant short-term improvements in students’ knowledge of AMS principles and their attitudes toward responsible antimicrobial use. Participants demonstrated a better understanding of the mechanisms of resistance and the importance of adhering to stewardship guidelines. Qualitative feedback indicated increased awareness of the consequences of inappropriate antimicrobial use and a stronger commitment to applying stewardship practices in their future careers. The educational programs effectively enhanced immediate veterinary students’ knowledge and attitudes regarding AMS. These findings underscore the importance of integrating targeted educational programs into veterinary curricula to promote responsible antimicrobial use and combat resistance in veterinary practice.

20. The Recent and Submerged Tombolos—Unique Phenomena on the Adriatic Sea

Prvić Island (Kvarner area in the NE channel part of the Adriatic Sea) is a part of the Natura 2000 protected area network. A recent tombolo is located on the SW coast of Prvić Island, and much larger submerged tombolos are located on the shoal towards the south. Both phenomena are unique to the Croatian coast of the Adriatic Sea. The inland part of the tombolo was surveyed using an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, and a 3D point cloud was created using Structure from Motion with Multi-View Stereo photogrammetry. The body of the talus breccia behind the tombolo has a triangular form. Large collapsed rocky blocks form the cape vertex. This cape is in a state of equilibrium in the present oceanographic conditions but might be eroded due to predicted rises in sea level. The submarine zone was explored using scuba-diving equipment and Remotely Operated Vehicles. A large triangle-shaped shoal consists of flysch. Parallel vertical sandstone layers that look like artificially built walls are more than a hundred metres long. The carbonate breccia is located at the end of the shallow zone. The conditions for the final formation of the submerged shoal were created during the sea level stagnation in the Holocene.

22. Predictors of reading comprehension and profiling of poor readers in Croatian: educational and clinical perspectives

IntroductionReading is an important academic skill. Children who exhibit reading difficulties are more likely to experience various negative professional and personal consequences. To successfully identify children with reading problems as early as possible, one must first understand how reading skills can be mastered, as well as the course of reading development in children with typical reading skills from the beginning of their formal reading instruction. Thus, the purpose of this study was to determine the influence of decoding and language comprehension on reading comprehension ability. In addition, this study aimed to determine types of profiles among poor readers and estimate their frequency in the study sample.MethodsBased on the Simple View of Reading model, we developed decoding, language comprehension, and reading comprehension tasks. Participants included 100 typical readers (TR) and 95 poor readers (PR) in the second grade in Croatian schools. Phonemic awareness, phonological working memory, and rapid automatized naming tasks were used to test underlying abilities of decoding skills in both groups of participants.ResultsAs expected, PRs showed significantly lower performance on all variables than TRs. The correlations between decoding, language comprehension and reading comprehension are significant in the PR group. The linear regression analysis showed that language comprehension was a significant predictor of reading comprehension for TRs, while decoding and language comprehension were significant predictors of reading comprehension for PRs. The profiling of reading difficulties revealed five different profiles, the most common of which was a mixed reading difficulty, i.e., difficulties in both decoding and language comprehension.DiscussionIn line with theoretical expectations, success in reading comprehension in TRs at the end of the second grade depends mainly on language comprehension. To achieve this complex cognitive skill, PRs‘ language comprehension alone is not sufficient, so they still rely on their decoding skills. Among the poor readers, there was a high prevalence of children with decoding problems (i.e., three out of five profiles). Teachers should be able to identify and monitor decoding difficulties in children, since these difficulties are associated with noticeable manifestations, unlike those associated with comprehension difficulties.

23. Characterization of Errors in Interferometry with Entangled Atoms

Recent progress in generating entangled spin states of neutral atoms provides opportunities to advance quantum sensing technology. In particular, entanglement can enhance the performance of accelerometers and gravimeters based on light-pulse atom interferometry. We study the effects of error sources that may limit the sensitivity of such devices, including errors in the preparation of the initial entangled state, imperfections in the laser pulses, momentum spread of the initial atomic wave packet, measurement errors, spontaneous emission, and atom loss. We determine that, for each of these errors, the expectation value of the parity operator $\Pi$ has the general form, $\overline{\langle \Pi \rangle} = \Pi_0 \cos( N \phi )$, where $\phi$ is the interferometer phase and $N$ is the number of atoms prepared in the maximally entangled Greenberger--Horne--Zeilinger state. Correspondingly, the minimum phase uncertainty has the general form, $\Delta\phi = (\Pi_0 N)^{-1}$. Each error manifests itself through a reduction of the amplitude of the parity oscillations, $\Pi_0$, below the ideal value of $\Pi_0 = 1$. For each of the errors, we derive an analytic result that expresses the dependence of $\Pi_0$ on error parameter(s) and $N$, and also obtain a simplified approximate expression valid when the error is small. Based on the performed analysis, entanglement-enhanced atom interferometry appears to be feasible with existing experimental capabilities.

The paper deals with the issue of the position of credit institutions when pre-bankruptcy or bankruptcy proceedings are opened against the debtor of the credit institution, and thus the credit institution acquires the position of a separate creditor. The institute of the separate creditor was mainly analyzed according to the latest amendments to the Bankruptcy Act. It is also emphasized in which segments it’s position has changed and to what extent. Previously, the very concept of a credit institution and the peculiarities of their operations in the Republic of Croatia were explained, and finally, authors analyze the case when a compulsory liquidation procedure is opened against a credit institution.

28. The Effect of Progress Indicators on Students' Engagement, Learning Experience and Final Grade

Student analytics dashboards are identified as a tool to bridge the gap in interaction between students and teachers, as well as to help students more efficiently monitor their own progress. This research aims to explore the connections between progress tracking of students' work in the course, their learning experience, engagement, and final grades. In total, 77 students in a blended course covering economics and informatics were involved in the study. Progress through course materials was tracked using conditional activities, and students' progress was measured using self-assessment quizzes and badges. Results indicated a strong positive correlation between progress indicators and engagement, as well as between progress indicators and learning experience. A small correlation was found between progress indicators and final course grades.

29. Erythema Migrans in Patients with Post-Traumatic Splenectomy

Information on asplenic Lyme borreliosis (LB) patients with erythema migrans (EM) is lacking. We compared the course and outcome of 26 EM episodes in 24 post-trauma splenectomized patients (median age 51 years) diagnosed at a single clinical center in Slovenia during 1994–2023 with those of 52 age- and sex-matched patients with EM but with no history of splenectomy. All patients were followed for one year. A comparison of pre-treatment characteristics revealed that EM in splenectomized patients was of shorter duration before diagnosis (4 vs. 8 days, p = 0.034) with a smaller EM diameter (10.5 vs. 14 cm, p = 0.046), and more frequently fulfilled criteria for disseminated LB (3/26, 11.5% vs. 0%, p = 0.034). Treatment failure occurred in 5/26 (19.2%) EM episodes in splenectomized patients versus 0/52 in non-splenectomized patients (p = 0.003). The five treatment failure cases were retreated with antibiotic regimens used to treat EM and had complete resolution of all symptoms/signs. In conclusion, our study showed that splenectomized adult patients with EM differ somewhat in presentation and more often have treatment failure compared with non-splenectomized patients with EM.

Introduction: Integrated care of chronic patients improves quality of their management, but there is scarce evidence of its implementation in different healthcare settings. With this article, we wanted to determine the level of integrated care implementation in the management of T2D (diabetes) and HT (hypertension) in three different settings: Belgium, Slovenia, and Cambodia. Methods: This was an observational study with integrated approach. It was conducted in primary health care organisations in three countries. In each primary health care organisation, we aimed to include primary care workers that worked with Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) and hypertension (HT) patients. Data was collected with the Integrated Care Package (ICP) grid (consisting of six elements: identification, treatment, health education, self-management, caregiver collaboration, and care organisation). Results: ICP is almost completely implemented without major differences within Slovenia. There is a considerable variability across practice types in Belgium. Implementation is constrained by health system resources in Cambodia. Some elements, especially identification, are better implemented then others, across health systems. Conclusion: Countries can enhance integrated care for chronic diseases by implementing central policies, standardized protocols, and local adaptation, addressing resource constraints, promoting systematic screening and health education, and providing training for healthcare workers, tailored to community needs, to improve patient outcomes and healthcare delivery.

Copper matrix composite materials have exhibited a high potential in applications where excellent conductivity and mechanical properties are required. In this study, the machine learning models have been applied to predict the hardness of the copper matrix composite materials produced via powder metallurgy technique. Two particular composites were considered in this work. From experiments, we extracted the independent variables (features) like the milling time (MT, Hours), dislocation density (DD, 1/m2 ), average particle size (PS,nm), density (gm/cm3 ) and yield stress (MPa) while the Vickers Hardness (MPa) was used as the dependent variable. Feature selection was performed by calculation the Pearson correlation coefficient (PCC) between the independent and dependent variables. 32. Assessment of Sea-Level Rise Impacts on Salt-Wedge Intrusion in Idealized and Neretva River Estuary

Understanding the response of estuaries to sea-level rise is crucial in developing a suitable mitigation and climate change adaptation strategy. This study investigates the impacts of rising sea levels on salinity intrusion in salt-wedge estuaries. The sea-level rise impacts are assessed in idealized estuaries using simple expressions derived from a two-layer hydraulic theory, and in the Neretva River Estuary in Croatia using a two-layer time-dependent model. The assessment is based on three indicators - the salt-wedge intrusion length, the seawater volume, and the river inflows needed to restore the baseline intrusion. The potential SLR was found to increase all three considered indicators. Theoretical analysis in idealized estuaries suggests that shallower estuaries are more sensitive to SLR. Numerical results for the Neretva River Estuary showed that SLR may increase salt-wedge intrusion length, volume, and corrective river inflow. However, the results are highly non-linear because of the channel geometry, especially for lower river inflows. A theoretical assessment of channel bed slope impacts on limiting a potential intrusion is therefore additionally discussed. This findings emphasize the need to use several different indicators when assessing SLR impacts.

This paper presents a one-dimensional time-dependent numerical model of a sea organ, which generates music driven by the motion of the sea. The governing equations are derived by coupling hydrodynamic and thermodynamic equations for water level and air pressure oscillations in a sea organ pipe system forced by irregular waves. The model was validated by comparing numerical results to experimental data obtained from a scaled physical model. Furthermore, the models' capabilities are presented by simulating internal oscillations in the Sea Organ in Zadar, Croatia. The response of the Sea Organ varies between segments and for different wave conditions. The strongest air pressure and water level response is found near resonance frequencies.

Lockdown measures to control disease transmission were implemented at the start of the COVID-19 era, worsening the already existing sedentary lifestyle. Reduced physical activity (PA) and unhealthy eating habits have a negative impact on mental health in chronically ill patients, including diabetes patients. Mental illness, on the other hand, encourages a sedentary lifestyle, exacerbating all components of metabolic syndrome. While well-controlled diabetic patients with an HbA1c of less than 7% had a less severe clinical presentation and COVID-19 mortality rates, the favorable effect of PA on immunomodulation and immunoregulation should not be neglected. Given recent data indicating that a sedentary lifestyle is the third independent risk factor for COVID-19 complications and death (after advanced age and organ transplant), including regular PA has never been more vital. Since PA has a major impact on both glycemic control and mental health, implementing structured home-based activity programs could improve glycemic control and psychological well-being, hence positively impacting COVID-19 outcomes.

Copper-zirconium alloys with high conductivity were produced using powder metallurgy. Two-steps manufacturing process, containing mechanical alloying followed by hot pressing, was applied in achieving improved mechanical and physical properties of Cu-Zr alloy. In this paper, the influence of boron on Cu-Zr alloys properties was studied on Cu-1Zr (wt.%) and Cu-1.1Zr-0.3B (wt.%) systems. Scanning electron microscopy, laser nanoparticle sizer, computed tomography and X-ray diffraction were employed for observation of changes in the microstructure during production steps. More specifically – variations in size of the Cu particles, powder mixtures’ structural parameters, and development of CuZr phase in binary alloy, CuZr phase and ZrB2 particles in ternary alloy were observed. It was shown that presence of boron increases dislocation density in ternary alloy over the mechanical alloying time compared to binary alloy. The results presented in this study show higher hardening effect in Cu-Zr-B alloy compared to Cu-Zr alloy, resulting in stable hardness values during thermomechanical treatment. Further, it can be seen that finely dispersed reinforcing ZrB2 particles in copper matrix does not have significant influence on its conductivity. Moreover, both systems Cu-Zr and Cu-Zr-B exhibit better electrical conductivity after thermomechanical treatment as a result of zirconium reduction in solid solution due to its precipitation.

37. The factors associated with mild cognitive impairment in outpatient practice

Background/Aim. Previous studies showed that mild cognitive impairment (MCI) was more common in patients with comorbidities and those using medications that disrupt the homeostasis of vitamin B12. The aim of our study was to determine which of these factors are significantly associated with MCI, as well as which are the most significant risk factors for predicting its occurrence. Methods. The data have been prospectively collected for 200 adults (35–65 years old) in primary care settings enrolled in the clinical study with the case-control approach. Results. By applying the χ2 test for independence, we have determined that the MCIs and the use of proton-pump inhibitors (PPIs) (p < 0.0005), as well as metformin (p < 0.0005), are independent factors. In addition, a significantly higher percentage of subjects who had MCI al-so had a peptic ulcer and diabetes mellitus type 2 (T2DM). Direct logistic regression has been implemented in order to estimate the influence of many probability factors on whether the study patients would have the MCI. Two variables made statistically significant contributions to the model, and these are the serum concentrations of vitamin B12 [odds ratio (OR) = 0.953; 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.936–0.971; p < 0.001] and T2DM (OR = 6.681; 95% CI 1.305–34.198; p = 0.023). Conclusion. The absolute and relative risk associations of exposure to medicines and MCI is lower than those of comorbidities and MCI. Serum concentrations of vitamin B12, as well as the presence of T2DM, have the greatest statistically significant influence on predicting MCI.

38. Correlation between serum quantitative HBsAg and HBV DNA levels in chronic hepatitis B patients

Background/Aim. Quantitative hepatitis B virus (HBV) surface antigen (qHBsAg) has become increasingly wide-spread in the last few years in both diagnostic and therapeutic protocols for HBV infection. Numerous studies have proposed it as a surrogate marker for covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA). The aim of the study was to determine the correlation between qHBsAg and HBV DNA viremia in untreated patients. Methods. The study included 112 untreated patients diagnosed with chronic HBV infection. Demographic and other data from medical records and laboratory analyses, taken as part of routine chronic HBV infection diagnosis with the determination of qHBsAg and HBV DNA viremia, were recorded for all patients. Results. The average age of the patients included in the study was 48.27 ± 15.14 years; males (58%) were more represented. qHBsAg levels had a high-intensity positive correlation with HBV DNA viremia. The concentration of qHBsAg, HBV DNA viremia, and the concentrations of alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase showed statistically significantly higher values in HBV e antigen (HBeAg)-positive than in HBeAg-negative patients. Conclusion. Our study showed that qHBsAg has a high-intensity positive correlation with HBV DNA viremia. The use of qHBsAg is essential for determining the phase of chronic HBV infection, assessment of the success and length of treatment, as well as for safe discontinuation of antiviral therapy with a lower risk of relapse.

39. The first human case of multilocular Echinococcosis recognized in Serbia

Introduction. Echinococcus multilocularis causes multilocular or alveolar echinococcosis, which differs from infection caused by Echinococcus granulosus in clinical presentation in humans. The most common definitive hosts for E. multilocularis are foxes and jackals, while domestic mammals like dogs and cats are rare. Humans are rare and accidental intermediate hosts. Cystic echinococcosis in humans is endemic in Serbia, while more severe alveolar echinococcosis has not yet been recorded. Case outline. We present a case of a 67-year-old female from a small village in the Sremska Mitrovica municipality. The onset of symptoms was several years ago, with liver pain which progressed over time. Differential diagnoses included benign liver tumors like haemangioma, cystic echinococcosis and abscess formed in the cystic echinococcal lesion. Left lateral hepatectomy was performed, and S II/III liver segments were removed. Pathological examination showed numerous small empty vesicle spaces with chitin membrane without protoscolices, surrounded by massive fibrosis and infiltrative growth into the liver parenchyma, all indicative marks of multilocular echinococcosis. Surgical margins were found positive for echinococcal vesicles showing that echinococcal tissue was not completely removed. Thus albendazole therapy was introduced. Epidemiological interview revealed that the patient lived in an endemic region of multilocular echinococcosis, in a house with two hunting dogs and backyard where contamination of soil with fox feces could occur. Conclusion. This is the first case of human multilocular echinococcosis recorded in Serbia, which should alert the medical community to improve prophylactic and diagnostic procedures and surgical techniques to better manage this zoonotic disease.

Gene expression at the phenotypic level varies due to a number of influences from the environment in which the animals are reared. Ignoring this reality or due to insufficient knowledge, farmers are often disappointed when choosing a population of sheep when they do not get the production results that the breed achieves where they bought it. The investigation of the reproductive and production characteristics of parent herds of Sjenica sheep was conducted on four farms. In the research, it included a total of 921 lambs and 474 sheep. The influence of sheep body weight on the weight of lambs at birth within a farm was analyzed. Based on the research conducted on the sheep population and after the obtained and processed data, we can state the following: certain differences were found in the fertility of sheep depending on the farm and body weight. We also perceived that certain differences in the body weight of the lambs are evident depending on the weight group of the sheep and the farm where the sheep were raised. All of the above leads us to the general conclusion that management is extremely important in sheep farming. If the selection of the breeding population is carried out correctly and adequate measures of keeping, nutrition and reproduction are applied, success is guaranteed.

Purpose: The aim of this paper is to expand the body of knowledge on employer branding by identifying the dimensions of employer attractiveness for Generation Z and to develop a framework for employee value creation in the specific context of Croatian culture. Methodology: The research was conducted on a sample of 220 key informants using the scale developed by Berthon et al. (2005). Since the purpose of the paper was to identify the various dimensions of employer attractiveness as well as the key factors of attractiveness as the basis for value proposition underlying respondents’ perception of employer attractiveness, exploratory factor analysis was applied to analyze the data, i.e. a total of 25 identified employer attractiveness variables. After performing factor analysis, the average rates of importance were measured using summated rating scales for variables of individual factors. Results: The study identified six organizational attractiveness dimensions relevant to Generation Z. In addition, a value proposition framework was developed. The attractiveness dimensions encompass Organization’s market orientation, Acceptance and good relationships with colleagues, Informal characteristics of the workplace, Potential of the workplace for gaining experience and career advancement, Salary and other material benefits, and Sense of belonging to the organization. The dimensions have changed compared to the original Berthon et al. (2005) scale. These differences can be attributed to the specific needs of young employees and to a specific culture and general current conditions. Conclusion: In the “war for talent”, especially for young employees who enter the labor market for the first time, marketing concepts can be a powerful weapon. In order to attract them, their needs and wants should be deeply understood. Based on the proposed value proposition framework and the identified organizational dimensions, a valuable employer brand can be developed and the possibilities to attract and engage employees can be increased.

Brown trout is a common type of fish grown for consumption in open and flowing fish ponds on the rivers of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We conducted this study during three seasons (spring, summer and autumn) to obtain a complete picture of the morphological and histological characteristics of selected trout tissues. The physicochemical characteristics of the water from the Pliva River near Pljeva and the fish pond where intensive breeding of trout is carried out were analyzed. These analyses have shown that there are no major deviations in water quality and that the water in the pond is of excellent quality. A total of 90 trout were harvested during all three seasons and their morphometric characteristics were determined by analyzing ten parameters. After the dissection of all individuals, histological and stereological analysis was performed to compare the tissues of the liver, stomach, gills and muscles. These analyses showed significant differences in the histoarchitecture of selected trout tissues from the pond compared to the river. Liver tissue had altered hepatocyte shape and presence of adipocytes; stomach tissue had stronger mucosa and weaker muscle layer; gill tissue had lower respiratory lamellae; while muscle tissue had a significant presence of adipose tissue in brown trout living in the fish pond compared to those in the river. All these changes are due to the quality of commercial feed and the inability to move freely.

C-reactive protein (CRP) and leukocyte count are standard tools for recognising inflammation in COPD patients. This study aimed to find if there is a pattern in monocyte related haematological indices - monocyte to neutrophil ratio (MNR) and monocyte to lymphocyte ratio (MLR) - which could be helpful in differentiating COPD patients in need for hospitalization due to acute exacerbation of COPD or differentiating frequent COPD exacerbators from non-frequent COPD exacerbators. The study included 119 patients with COPD and 35 control subjects, recruited at the Clinic for Respiratory Diseases Jordanovac, University Hospital Centre Zagreb, Croatia. Complete blood count was performed on Sysmex XN-1000, CRP on Cobas c501, and Fbg on BCS XP analyser. Data were analysed with MedCalc statistical software. 44. Using Essential Oils to Reduce Yersinia enterocolitica in Minced Meat and in Biofilms

Yersiniosis, one of the leading foodborne infections in the European Union, is caused by Yersinia enterocolitica. In this study, the antibacterial and antibiofilm effects of cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum Nees), clove (Syzygium aromaticum L.), oregano (Origanum vulgare L.), rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis L.), thyme (Thymus vulgaris L.), and winter savory (Satureja montana L.) essential oils were investigated against Y. enterocolitica strains belonging to the bioserotype 4/O:3. Cinnamon essential oil showed the highest antibacterial activity, with an MIC value 0.09 µL/mL, followed by oregano and thyme essential oils, with MIC values from 0.09 to 0.18 µL/mL, and from 0.18 to 0.23 µL/mL, respectively. Thyme essential oil at 0.23 µL/g (MIC) and at 0.46 µL/g (2MIC) significantly (p < 0.05) reduced the number of Y. enterocolitica by 0.38 log CFU/g and 0.64 log CFU/g, respectively, in minced pork meat during storage at 4 °C for 4 days. The Y. enterocolitica strains formed biofilms at 15 °C and 37 °C in tryptic soy broth and Luria–Bertani broth, while no biofilms were obtained at 5 °C, and in meat broth nutrient media. Applying the minimum bactericidal concentrations of cinnamon, clove, oregano, rosemary, thyme, and winter savory essential oils on preformed biofilms led to significant reductions being observed in the range from 45.34% to 78.89%. A scanning electron microscopy assay showed the devastating impact of oregano and thyme essential oils on the morphology of Y. enterocolitica bacterial cells. In conclusion, the results of this study show that essential oils possess high anti-Yersinia and antibiofilm effects.

Using new experimental measurements of photoassociation resonances near the $^1\mathrm{S}_0 \rightarrow \phantom{ }^3\mathrm{P}_1$ intercombination transition in $^{84}$Sr and $^{86}$Sr, we present an updated study into the mass-scaling behavior of bosonic strontium dimers. A previous mass-scaling model [Borkowski et al., Phys. Rev. A 90, 032713 (2014)] was able to incorporate a large number of photoassociation resonances for $^{88}$Sr, but at the time only a handful of resonances close to the dissociation limit were known for $^{84}$Sr and $^{86}$Sr. In this work, we perform a more thorough measurement of $^{84}$Sr and $^{86}$Sr bound states, identifying multiple new resonances at deeper binding energies out to $E/h=-5$ GHz. We also identify several previously measured resonances that cannot be experimentally reproduced and provide alternative binding energies instead. With this improved spectrum, we develop a mass-scaled model that reproduces the observed binding energies of $^{86}$Sr and $^{88}$Sr to within 1 MHz. In order to accurately reproduce the deeper bound states, our model includes a second $1_u$ channel and more faithfully reproduces the depth of the potential. As determined by the previous mass-scaling study, $^{84}$Sr $0_u^+$ levels are strongly perturbed by the avoided crossing between the $^1\mathrm{S}_0 + \phantom{ }^3\mathrm{P}_1$ $0_u^+$ $(^3\Pi_u)$ and $^1\mathrm{S}_0 + \phantom{ }^1\mathrm{D}_2$ $0_u^+$ $(^1\Sigma_u^+)$ potential curves and therefore are not included in this mass-scaled model, but are accurately reproduced using an isotope-specific model with slightly different quantum defect parameters. We demonstrate the emergence of universal Efimov physics for interacting photons in cold gases of Rydberg atoms. We consider the behavior of three photons injected into the gas in their propagating frame, where a paraxial approximation allows us to consider them as massive particles. In contrast to atoms and nuclei, the photons have a large anisotropy between their longitudinal mass, arising from dispersion, and their transverse mass, arising from diffraction. Nevertheless, we show that in suitably rescaled coordinates the effective interactions become dominated by s-wave scattering near threshold and, as a result, give rise to an Efimov effect near unitarity. We show that the three-body loss of these Efimov trimers can be strongly suppressed and determine conditions under which these states are observable in current experiments. Fully understanding a chemical reaction on the quantum level is a long-standing goal in physics and chemistry. Experimental investigation of such state-to-state chemistry requires both the preparation of the reactants and the detection of the products in a quantum state resolved way, which has been a long term challenge. Using the high level control in the ultracold domain, we prepare a few-body quantum state of reactants and demonstrate state-to-state chemistry with unprecedented resolution. We present measurements and accompanying theoretical analysis for the recombination of three spin-polarized ultracold Rb atoms forming a weakly bound Rb$_2$ dimer. Detailed insights of the reaction process are obtained that suggest propensity rules for the distribution of reaction products. Fractal TRIDYN (F-TRIDYN) is a modified version of the widely used Monte Carlo, Binary Collision Approximation code TRIDYN that includes an explicit model of surface roughness and additional output modes for coupling to plasma edge and material codes. Surface roughness plays an important role in ion irradiation processes such as sputtering; roughness can significantly increase the angle of maximum sputtering and change the maximum observed sputtering yield by a factor of 2 or more. The complete effect of surface roughness on sputtering and other ion irradiation phenomena is not completely understood. Many rough surfaces can be consistently and realistically modeled by fractals, using the fractal dimension and fractal length scale as the sole input parameters. F-TRIDYN includes a robust fractal surface algorithm that is more computationally efficient than those in previous fractal codes and which reproduces available experimental sputtering data from rough surfaces. Fractals provide a compelling path toward a complete and concise understanding of the effect that surface geometry plays on the behavior of plasma-facing materials. The objective of the present study was to characterize the chestnut (Castanea sativa Mill.) tannin product, Farmatan Plus
® (Tanin Sevnica d.d., Sevnica, Slovenia), and to subsequently examine its effects on the blood metabolic parameters of fattening lambs, particularly in relation to their health status. Thirty lambs were randomly divided into three treatment groups: a control group without added tannin and two groups that received 9.46 g of the tannin product/kg of the diet dry matter (DM) and 18.87 g of the tannin product/kg of the diet DM. Metabolic parameters such as contents of total protein, globulin, urea, and liver enzymes (AST and GGT) were measured over a trial period of 60 days to evaluate the effects of tannin supplementation. This study represents the first in-depth characterization of Farmatan Plus® , demonstrating its richness in bioactive compounds such as vescalin and castalagin. The results showed no significant adverse effects on lamb health, with all parameters remaining within normal physiological ranges (p > 0.05). These results support the safe inclusion of chestnut tannins in the diet of lambs and underline their potential as a functional feed additive that can positively influence the health and growth performance of ruminants. Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, including in Croatia. Since most patients have multiple disorders and diseases caused largely by the same risk factors, and as it is essential to approach each patient as a person with all disorders, today, we are talking about a new paradigm—cardio-renal-metabolic (CKM) syndrome and cardio-renal-metabolic health, which necessarily includes brain health. Elevated systolic blood pressure, LDL cholesterol, smoking, obesity, diabetes, impaired renal function or chronic kidney disease, which all stem from insufficient physical activity, an unhealthy diet with excessive intake of table salt, and air pollution, are the leading causes of overall morbidity and mortality from CKM diseases, especially mortality from CVD. Experts from various fields key to CKM health have written this document with the aim of integrating it as part of the national plan for the prevention of chronic non-communicable diseases with a focus on CVD, which should become mandatory and be based on the existing guidelines of professional societies.
