Abstract

The study of transfer reactions in inverse kinematics is a major focus of existing and future radioactive-ion-beam facilities. One of the obstacles in such measurements is poor Q-value resolution, often several hundred keV, which can prevent the extraction of useful information. At Argonne National Laboratory, it has recently been demonstrated that good Q-value resolution can be achieved by transporting the outgoing ions through a high-field solenoid, measuring their position as a function of energy. This provides several advantages over conventional Si arrays, such as large acceptance, good particle identification, and most importantly a Q-value resolution of better than 100 keV in most cases, including reactions with moderately heavy beams. In this paper, the concept of the solenoidal spectrometer, called HELIOS, will be discussed along with highlights of recent results.

Abstract

Calorimetric and coalescence techniques have been employed to probe equilibration for hot nuclei produced in heavy ion collisions of 35 to 55 MeV/u projectiles with medium mass targets. Entrance channel mass asymmetries and energies were selected in order that very hot composite nuclei of similar mass and excitation would remain after early stage pre-equilibrium particle emission. Inter-comparison of the properties and de-excitation patterns for these different systems provides evidence for the production of hot nuclei with decay patterns relatively independent of the specific entrance channel., 7 pages, 2 figures

Abstract

The kinetic energy variation of emitted light clusters has been employed as a clock to explore the time evolution of the temperature for thermalizing composite systems produced in the reactions of 26A, 35A and 47A MeV $^{64}$Zn with $^{58}$Ni, $^{92}$Mo and $^{197}$Au. For each system investigated, the double isotope ratio temperature curve exhibits a high maximum apparent temperature, in the range of 10-25 MeV, at high ejectile velocity. These maximum values increase with increasing projectile energy and decrease with increasing target mass. The time at which the maximum in the temperature curve is reached ranges from 80 to 130 fm/c after contact. For each different target, the subsequent cooling curves for all three projectile energies are quite similar. Temperatures comparable to those of limiting temperature systematics are reached 30 to 40 fm/c after the times corresponding to the maxima, at a time when AMD-V transport model calculations predict entry into the final evaporative or fragmentation stage of de-excitation of the hot composite systems. Evidence for the establishment of thermal and chemical equilibrium is discussed., Comment: 9 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

Intermediate mass fragment (Z>2) emission in Sn-124,Xe-124+Sn-124,Sn-112 reactions at 28 MeV /nucleon were studied using neutron ion multidetector for reaction oriented dynamics, a 4pi charged particle detection system. A number of observables, such as isotopic yield distributions, energy spectra of light charged particles and intermediate mass fragments, isotopic and isobaric yield ratios, and average neutron to proton ratios are investigated. These observables show significant dependence on the isospin N/Z of the reacting system. It is observed that the formation of neutron-rich clusters are correlated with the excess neutrons in the composite system and depends on the temperature of the emitting source. The origin of light particles and fragments was studied through observations of rapidity distribution as a function of collision violence. With increasing centrality, the heavier He-6 isotope is found to be emitted closer to the midrapidity region than the lighter He-3 isotope. The emission of heavy fragments from the midrapidity region becomes increasingly favorable for fragments with higher charge Z . The results suggest that the midrapidity region is not only neutron rich but also a rich source of heavy fragment (cluster) formation.

Abstract

Background: Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) positron emission tomography (PET) can be used to locate lesions based on PSMA avidity, however guidelines on its use are limited by its infancy. We aimed to compare multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) and PSMA PET/CT to prostatectomy histopathology., Methods: We conducted a chart review from February 2015 to January 2017 of 50 male patients staged for prostate cancer using PSMA PET/CT and mpMRI who then underwent radical prostatectomy. Pre-operative PSMA PET/CT and mpMRI were paired with corresponding histopathology. Correlations, sensitivity, and specificity were used for comparisons., Results: A total of 81 lesions were confirmed by histopathology. Fifty index lesions were detected by histopathology, all of which were detected by PSMA PET/CT (100% detection), and 47 by mpMRI (94% detection). Thirty-one histologically confirmed secondary lesions were detected, 29 of which were detected by PSMA PET/CT (93.5% detection), and 16 by mpMRI (51.6% detection). PSMA had better sensitivity for index lesion localization than mpMRI (81.1 vs. 64.8%). Specificity was similar for PSMA PET/CT and mpMRI (84.6 vs. 82.7%). SUV max of index lesions ranged from 2.9 to 39.6 (M = 9.27 ± 6.41). Index lesion SUV max was positively correlated with PSA (rho = 0.48, p < 0.001) and ISUP grade (rho = 0.51, p < 0.001)., Conclusions: PSMA-PET/CT provided superior detection of prostate cancer lesions with better sensitivity than mpMRI. PSMA-PET/CT can be used to enhance locoregional mpMRI to provide improved detection and characterization of lesions.

6. Immediate Placement and Restoration of Implant in Periapical Infected Site in the Maxillary Esthetic Zone: A Case Report.

Abstract

Immediate placement and restoration of the implant is a widely used protocol, but loading of implants in the site which is periapically infected is still not very popular. Very few studies have been conducted and its still in debate. The conventional protocol of placing implant and waiting for it to osseointegrate is time consuming and compromises patients esthetics and psychological comfort. This report presents a case of immediate placement and restoration of implant in the region with periapical infection.
