COVID-19 altered travel patterns in the U.S. Studies have analyzed the effect of the pandemic on travel mode, including working from home, but few have focused on automobile ownership—a relationship with potentially long-term consequences for accessibility, household budgets and debt, and policy efforts to meet climate goals.To understand the association between the pandemic and automobile ownership, we rely on a unique credit panel dataset from Experian and examine three different automobile loan-related outcome measures: annualized growth rate of new automobile loan balances, average new loan size, and the number of new loans. We focus specifically on changes across loans in neighborhoods by race/ethnicity, hypothesizing larger increases in automobile debt in Black and Latino/a neighborhoods, where workers are less likely to be able to telework. The annualized growth rate of new automobile loans increased during the pandemic across all neighborhoods by race/ethnicity, increasing most rapidly in Latino/a neighborhoods. Controlling for other factors, loan size increased similarly across neighborhoods by race/ethnicity. The increase in automobile lending in Latino/a neighborhoods, therefore, likely was explained by a significant uptick in the number of new loans.The growth in automobile lending during the pandemic was potentially prompted by pandemic-induced changes in the need for automobiles and facilitated by an expanded social safety net. As the pandemic and its various forms of public financial assistance recede, the findings underscore the importance of ongoing assistance in enabling automobile ownership or shared access among households with limited means whose livelihoods depend on the access that vehicles provide.

Daily vehicle travel collapsed with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020 but largely bounced back by late 2021. The pandemic caused dramatic changes to working, schooling, shopping, and leisure activities, and to the travel associated with them. Several of these changes have so far proven enduring. So, while overall vehicle travel had largely returned to pre-pandemic levels by late 2021, the underlying drivers of this travel have likely changed.To examine one element of this issue, we analyzed whether patterns of daily trip-making shifted temporally between the fall of 2019 and 2021 in the Greater Los Angeles megaregion. We used location-based service data to examine vehicle trip originations for each hour of the day at the U.S. census block group level in October 2019 and October 2021. We observed notable shifts in the timing of post-pandemic PM peak travel, so we examined changes in the ratio of mid-week trips originating in the early afternoon (12–3:59 PM) and the late afternoon/early evening (4–7:59 PM).We found a clear shift in the temporal distribution of PM trip-making, with relatively more late PM peak period trip-making prior to the pandemic, and more early PM peak trip-making in 2021. The peak afternoon/evening trip-making hour shifted from 5–5:59 PM to 3–3:59 PM. We also found that afternoon/evening trip-making in each year is largely explained by three workplace-area/school-area factors: (1) the number of schoolchildren in a block group (earlier); (2) block groups with large shares of potential remote workers (earlier), and (3) block groups with large shares of low-wage jobs and workers of color (later, except for Black workers in 2021). We found the earlier shift in PM peak travel between pre- and late-pandemic periods to be explained most by (1) higher shares of potential remote workers and (2) higher shares of low-wage jobs and workers of color. These findings suggest that the rise of working from home has likely led to a shift in PM peak travel earlier in the afternoon when school chauffeuring trips are most common. This is especially true for low-income workers and workers of color.

BACKGROUND: Effective interventions are needed to address suicide risk following discharge from the hospital emergency department or inpatient setting. Studies that examine follow-up contact methods show promise, but little is known about how follow-up programs are implemented in the real world and who is benefitting. The purpose of this formative evaluation and analysis was to gain insight about the usefulness and value of a partnered suicide prevention follow-up program (academic medical center emergency department partnered with a regional suicide prevention center) from the standpoint of psychiatry resident physicians providing direct care and suicide prevention center crisis counselors making follow-up outreach telephone calls to patients. METHODS: A qualitative thematic analysis was conducted with focus group data from a convenience sample of psychiatry residents who performed consultations in the emergency department setting and counselors at the suicide prevention center crisis follow-up program. Focus group sessions, using semi-structured question guides, were completed at each participant groups workplace. Grounded theory techniques were used to guide coding and analytic theme development. RESULTS: Analyses resulted in four overarching themes: valuing the programs utility and benefit to patients, desiring to understand what happens from emergency department discharge to program follow-up, having uncertainty about which patients would benefit from the program, and brainstorming to improve the referral process. Psychiatry residents appreciated the option of an active referral service (one that attempts to actively engage a patient after discharge through outreach), while suicide prevention crisis counselors valued their ability to offer a free and immediate service that had potential for fostering meaningful relationships. Both participant groups desired a better understanding of their partners program operations, a uniform and smooth referral process, and awareness of who may or may not benefit from program services. CONCLUSION: Results revealed the need for improved communication and implementation, such as expanded inter-agency contacts, consistent provider training, more documentation of the requirements and rules, a consistent message about program logistics for patients, and coordination between the program elements.

The flavoenzyme nicotine oxidoreductase (NicA2) is a promising injectable treatment to aid in the cessation of smoking, a behavior responsible for one in ten deaths worldwide. NicA2 acts by degrading nicotine in the bloodstream before it reaches the brain. Clinical use of NicA2 is limited by its poor catalytic activity in the absence of its natural electron acceptor CycN. Without CycN, NicA2 is instead oxidized slowly by dioxygen (O2), necessitating unfeasibly large doses in a therapeutic setting. Here, we report a genetic selection strategy that directly links CycN-independent activity of NicA2 to growth of Pseudomonas putida S16. This selection enabled us to evolve NicA2 variants with substantial improvement in their rate of oxidation by O2. The encoded mutations cluster around a putative O2 tunnel, increasing flexibility and accessibility to O2 in this region. These mutations further confer desirable clinical properties. A variant form of NicA2 is tenfold more effective than the wild type at degrading nicotine in the bloodstream of rats.

Abstract Background and context Providing care to the elderly is an emerging area of interest due to the increase in elderly population not only in the developed world but also in low and middle income countries. In Pakistan a country with an overall population of over 200 million, the elderly population amounts to 11.3 million. Caregiving of the elderly tends to occur within the kinship motivated by sociocultural norms as well as absence of government support facilities. While quantitative literature exists in Pakistan describing the “caregiver’s burden,” an in-depth analysis into the experiences of familial caregivers is missing. Methods The research used qualitative methods with the aim to explore the lived experiences of 7 daughters and 3 daughters-in-law, living in Karachi, Pakistan providing care to the elderly requiring assistance in at least two tasks of daily living. Results Five themes were developed inductively through the phenomenological method. All participants were Muslim and belonged to the upper economic strata of the society. Findings reveal that obligations to care are dominant in kinship circles particularly among women. Participants highlighted the importance of elderly in the Pakistani society, especially due to the religious lens that considers them as blessings. Daughter caregivers spoke about caregiving of their parents as a form of role reversal, emphasizing also upon the life-long emotional bond that served as a strong motivator. On the other hand, for daughter-in-law caregivers, motivations to care also stemmed from social expectations and kinship obligations. All participants reported multiple difficulties during the caregiving experience, despite existence of paid formal help, with respect to balancing multiple role demands and the nature of caregiving that requires constant effort. Results also illustrate that despite the desire to care for the elderly within a collectivist and patrilocal society, participants experienced multiple physical and emotional effects. However, a few also reported an increase in self-mastery and self-worth. Conclusion This study reveals that despite increasing urbanization and more women working outside the home, providing care to the elderly appears to be centered within the kinship circle. The research makes important contributions to the ageing literature in Pakistan with relevance to other South Asian contexts.

Abstract Drug-induced gene expression profiles can identify potential mechanisms of toxicity. We focus on obtaining signatures for cardiotoxicity of FDA-approved tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) in human induced-pluripotent-stem-cell-derived cardiomyocytes, using bulk transcriptomic profiles. We use singular value decomposition to identify drug-selective patterns across cell lines obtained from multiple healthy human subjects. Cellular pathways affected by cardiotoxic TKIs include energy metabolism, contractile, and extracellular matrix dynamics. Projecting these pathways to published single cell expression profiles indicates that TKI responses can be evoked in both cardiomyocytes and fibroblasts. Integration of transcriptomic outlier analysis with whole genomic sequencing of our six cell lines enables us to correctly reidentify a genomic variant causally linked to anthracycline-induced cardiotoxicity and predict genomic variants potentially associated with TKI-induced cardiotoxicity. We conclude that mRNA expression profiles when integrated with publicly available genomic, pathway, and single cell transcriptomic datasets, provide multiscale signatures for cardiotoxicity that could be used for drug development and patient stratification.

Abstract Present study assessed the growth of two plant species and ion uptake by them grown on different proportion of industrial solid waste and garden soil. The industrial waste having high concentration of chemicals were used with garden soil at different proportion i.e. 0% (T0), 5% (T1), 10% (T2), 15% (T3) and 20% (T4). Two species namely Conocarpus erectus (alien plant) and Dodonaea viscosa (indigenous) were used as test plants in pot study. Different parameters including growth, physiology, and anatomy of plants and concentration of cations (Na+, K+, Ca2+, and Mg2+) in the plant shoot and root were measured at different time duration (initial, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th month). The key objective of the study was to use these plants to establish their plantations on the barren lands where industrial solid wastes were being disposed of. C. erectus showed better growth than D. viscosa, as well as more uptake of ions. A significant increase in plant growth was observed in fourth month in T1, where plant height reached 24.5% and 46% for C. erectus and D. viscosa, respectively. At harvest, in C. erectus, no significant difference in the fresh (65–78 g) and dry weight (24–30 g) of the shoot was observed across treatments compared to the control. In D. viscosa, at the time of harvest, the fresh and dry weights of the root and shoot showed a strong, significantly decreasing pattern across T1, T2, and T3, leading to the death of the plant at T3 and T4. Further, optimum ratio of waste soil to garden soil was found as 10:90 and 20:80 to establish the plantations of D. viscosa and C. erectus, respectively in areas where such solid waste from industries are disposed. Findings can be used for the restoration of such solid waste for the sustainable management of industrial areas and their associated ecosystems.

Meta-analyses and international large-scale assessments (ILSA) are key sources for informing educational policy, research, and practice. While many critical research questions could be addressed by drawing evidence from both of these sources, meta-analysts seldom integrate ILSAs, and current integration practices lack methodological guidance. The aim of this methodological review is therefore to synthesize and illustrate the principles and practices of including ILSA data in meta-analyses. Specifically, we (a) review four ILSA data inclusion approaches (analytic steps, potential, challenges); (b) examine whether and how existing meta-analyses included ILSA data; and (c) provide a hands-on illustrative example of how to implement the four approaches. Seeing the need for meta-analyses on educational inequalities, we situated the review and illustration in the context of gender differences and socioeconomic gaps in student achievement. Ultimately, we outline the steps meta-analysts could take to utilize the potential and address the challenges of ILSA data for meta-analyses in education.

BackgroundCommunity input is crucial for identifying characteristics necessary for equitable, sustainable community-academic partnerships (CAPs). A November 2021 conference, honoring the late Dr. Loretta Jones and the Community-Partnered Participatory Research (CPPR) model, was held to gather input for designing a learning institute for community members as co-equal partners with academics in research, program, and policy initiatives. This created an opportunity to explore attendees' perspectives on challenges and opportunities related to CAPs with special focus on promoting equity.MethodsInstitutional Review Board approval was obtained. Five break-out discussion group sessions were conducted in November 2021 co-facilitated by both an academic and a community leader. After consent, discussions were recorded and transcribed. An iterative procedure for collaborative-group-thematic-analysis was developed. The six-phase process included rigorous coding, discussion, comparison of data with data, and development and refinement of themes and subthemes.ResultsA total of 38 racial-ethnically diverse participants volunteered from the total conference audience of 62 community and academic partners from various sectors including community-based organizations, health care, social services, academia, or policy within Los Angeles County. Analysis led to development of three themes: Being cautious with the extractive tendency of academia and the need for anti-racism within CAPs; Leveraging community power to resist the top-down lens of academia; and bridging two worlds through an equitably structured table.DiscussionParticipants described optimism about the future uses of CPPR to enhance CAPs, and the need to address barriers to equitable partnerships owing to unequal social contexts and entrenched power dynamics. Implications include addressing racism, evaluating financial equity in partnerships to promote accountability, and mentoring community leaders to promote equity.ConclusionUse of a "community lens" for developing sustainable, equitable CAPs is crucial to promote accountability and to responsibly implement authentic CPPR.

Family law systems in different countries significantly differ between marriage and divorce regulations. This research aims to compare the family law systems in several selected countries and analyze the marriage and divorce regulations in these countries. The research method used is qualitative with a case study approach. At the same time, primary and secondary data are obtained from literature studies where the retrieval process is from various trusted sources such as journals, books, and legal regulations. Data analysis uses descriptive analysis of research methods by collecting data after the actual data is compiled, processed, and analyzed to provide an overview of the existing problems. The results show that the selected countries, namely the United States, France, and Indonesia, have different marriage requirements, divorce proceedings, property division, and child custody regulations. An in-depth discussion of these differences provides a better understanding of the family law system in each country and its implications for individuals involved in the marriage and divorce process. This research concludes that comparing family law systems in different countries opens up room for developing better regulations to protect the interests of individuals and families in the context of marriage and divorce.

Introduction: The implementation of smoke-free regulations is an effort to create a clean and healthy environment in the Blitar District, Indonesia. The main purpose of this research is to analyze public opinion on the smoke-free regulations drafting in the Blitar District. Methods: To analyze public opinion about the smoke-free regulations, we used a cross-sectional design with a RAPID survey conducted in 2015. The research involved distributing questionnaires to 1,008 respondents, with the sample size proportionally divided across 22 districts. For the implementation of the regulation, we conducted observational research over four years. The effort to draft the smoke-free regulations continued until 2019, and the implementation of the regulations is ongoing until 2023. Results and Discussion: Results showed that 94.5% supported the regulations. The RAPID survey results provided evidence for drafting the smoke-free regulations. This evidence was used to advocate for stakeholder support in drafting and implementing the regulations in the Blitar District. Although the smoke-free regulations were released in 2019, their implementation has been very challenging and requiring significant effort. Conclusion: A RAPID survey showed that almost all people in Blitar support the drafting and implementation of the smoke-free regulations. The implementation requires significant effort to ensure it proceeds smoothly and needs support from all stakeholders in the Blitar District.

Background: Patients with partial thickness rotator cuff tears (PTRCTs) often present with concurrent pathology of the long head of the biceps tendon (LHBT). To address both conditions simultaneously, long head of the biceps (LHB) tenotomy or tenodesis can be performed at the time of arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (RCR). This study aims to compare postoperative shoulder active range of motion (AROM) and complications following transtendinous RCR with concurrent LHB tenodesis or tenotomy. Methods: A total of 90 patients with PTRCTs met inclusion criteria for this study. Patients who underwent tear-completion-and-repair, revision surgery, or open repair of the LHB tendon were excluded. Patients were stratified into tenotomy, arthroscopic suprapectoral tenodesis, or no biceps operation cohorts and were propensity matched 1:1:1 on age, sex, body mass index, and smoking status. Primary outcome measures included AROM in forward flexion, abduction, external rotation, and internal rotation at 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months postoperatively. The development of severe stiffness and rates of rotator cuff retear at final follow-up were recorded as secondary outcomes. Results: When comparing the tenotomy and tenodesis cohorts, tenotomy patients were found to have increased AROM at 3 months in forward flexion (153.2° vs. 130.1°, P = .004), abduction (138.6° vs. 114.2°, P = .019), and external rotation (60.4° vs. 43.8°, P = .014), with differences in forward flexion remaining significant at 6 months (162.4° vs. 149.4°, P = .009). There were no significant differences in interval rates of recovery in any plane between cohorts. Additionally, there were no significant differences in rates of symptomatic retears between groups (P = .458). Rates of severe postoperative stiffness approached but did not achieve statistical significance between tenotomy (4.2%) and tenodesis (29.2%) cohorts (P = .066). Smoking status was a significant predictor of severe stiffness (odds ratio, 13.69; P = .010). Conclusion: Despite significant differences in absolute AROM between cohorts, the decision to perform tenotomy or tenodesis was not found to differentially affect rates of AROM recovery for patients undergoing arthroscopic transtendinous RCR for PTRCT. Notably, however, transient stiffness complications were more commonly observed in smokers, and data trends suggested an increased risk of stiffness for patients undergoing LHB tenodesis. Overall, postoperative stiffness is likely multifactorial and attributable to both patient- and procedure-specific factors, and LHB tenotomy may be more appropriate for patients with risk factors for developing stiffness postoperatively.

Background: While studies have assessed comparative rates of restoration of shoulder function and alleviation of symptoms, comparative systemic postoperative complication rates between biceps tenotomy and tenodesis have yet to be assessed. The purpose of the present study was to use a national administrative database to perform a comprehensive investigation into 30-day complication rates after biceps tenotomy versus tenodesis, thus providing valuable insights for informed decision-making by clinicians and patients regarding the optimal surgical approach for pathologies of the long head of the biceps tendon. Methods: The National Surgical Quality Improvement Program database was queried to analyze postoperative complication rates and metrics associated with biceps tenotomy and tenodesis. Patient data spanning from 2012 to 2021 was extracted, with relevant variables assessed to identify and compare these two surgical approaches. Adjusted and unadjusted analyses were utilized to analyze patient demographics, comorbidities, operative times, lengths of stay, readmissions, adverse events, and yearly surgical volume, along with trends in usage, across cohorts. Results: Of 11,527 total patients, 264 (2.29%), 6826 (59.22%), and 4437 (38.49%) underwent tenotomy, tenodesis with open repair, and tenodesis with arthroscopic repair, respectively. Tenotomy operative times ([mean ± SD]: 66.25 ± 44.76 minutes) were shorter than those for open tenodesis (78.83 ± 41.82) and arthroscopic tenodesis (75.98 ± 40.16). Conversely, tenotomy patients had longer hospital days (0.88 ± 4.86 days) relative to open tenodesis (.08 ± 1.55) and arthroscopic tenodesis (.12 ± 2.70). Multivariable logistic regression controlling for demographics and comorbidities demonstrated that patients undergoing tenodesis were less likely to be readmitted (adjusted odds ratio [AOR]: 0.42, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.17-0.98, P = .050) or sustain serious adverse events (AOR: 0.27, 95% CI: 0.13-0.57, P

Health reproduction knowledge is a crucial factor in preventing acts of early sexual behavior. Early sexual behavior is reflected in many ways, from attraction to different sexes to building a relationship and making physical contact. Adequate knowledge of sexuality in teenagers especially in health reproduction would prevent teenagers from acting in early sexual behavior. This activity aims to increase knowledge about the health of reproductive organs and the prevention of early sexual intercourse among Madrasah Aliyah students. The method used is education regarding the health of reproductive organs, pre-marital sexual psychology, and social jurisprudence approaches. All material is presented interestingly and interactively. This activity found that 63 percent of the participants had previous knowledge of this topic. More than 50 percent of respondents were students, and students had quite good knowledge about reproductive health. Madrasah Aliyah students already have sufficient knowledge about reproductive health, but it has not yet been seen whether it is enough to prevent students from premature sexual behavior. However, we do not have any data regarding the act of early sexual behavior among respondents or how knowledge in health reproduction would relate to the act of early sexual behavior.

Objectives: This study assesses the knowledge, attitudes and beliefs of physiotherapists regarding non-specific chronic low back pain (NSCLBP) and explores their impact on treatment selection, ultimately enhancing quality outcomes. Methods: A total of 107 participants were involved in the study. The questionnaire comprised three sections: Demographic information, evaluation of participants’ pain beliefs and attitudes using the pain attitudes and beliefs scale for physiotherapists scale and frequently employed treatment selection and plans for managing NSCLBP. The questionnaire was distributed via e-mail, WhatsApp and social media platforms using Google Forms. Results: Responses were gathered from 107 physiotherapists in India through the Google Form. Treatment orientation revealed 43.4% biomedical and 30.7% bio-psychosocial approaches. Discussion: The predominant orientation of physiotherapists in India leans towards biomedical aspects in their attitudes and beliefs.

Money politics has damaged the democratic system throughout the nation; handling the problem of money politics is not enough to be charged to law enforcement and all elements of society. The seriousness of the government and political parties in tackling the problem of money politics can be done by legal and political means. The results of this study show that political policies in preventing money politics in the 2019 elections in Banyumas Regency where political parties have made several efforts in at least three ways: 1) implementing pacta integrity and providing debriefing to cadres and legislative candidates. 2) All parties tend to follow only the existing rules, especially those issued by the KPU and Bawaslu. 3) It turns out that all parties do not require this, relating to the competency requirements of legislative candidates that are more stringent, intellectual, managerial skills, experience, and morality. Legal policies in the prevention and handling of money politics have carried out prevention strategies through legal policies, namely prevention at the level of legislation policy and judicial policy. In contrast, the execution policy has yet to be well realized.

This systematic review and meta-analysis study aimed to evaluate global Trichuris infection prevalence, assessing progress towards the WHO's 2030 target. We searched international databases from 2010–2023, categorizing data by regions and socio-economic variables using a random-effects model. Analyzing 757 articles covering 7154,842 individuals from 78 countries, the study found a pooled global prevalence of (6.64–7.57%), with the highest rates in the Caribbean (21.72%; 8.90–38.18%) and South-East Asia (20.95; 15.71–26.71%) regions. Southern Africa (9.58; 2.11–21.46%), Latin America (9.58; 2.11–21.46%), and Middle Africa Middle Africa (8.94; 6.31–11.98%) also exhibited high prevalence. Eastern Europe had the lowest prevalence at 0.16% (0.09–0.24). Approximately 513 (480−547) million people worldwide were estimated to harbor Trichuris. Moreover ∼1.5% of people tested worldwide (2010–2023) had a moderate to heavy intensity of infection. The study emphasizes the persistent global health threat of Trichuris infection, urging tailored strategies for effective control and prevention on a global scale.

Since challenging behaviors are present in classrooms, it is imperative to understand how teachers acknowledge and respond to these unwanted actions within their schools. The overarching purpose of this study is to understand schoolteachers' perspectives on the causes of students' unwanted behaviors and their responses in the classroom. The study was also designed to explore schoolteachers' perspectives on the relationship between the students' challenging behavior and disability. A total of 1,056 Ghanaian (n=502) and Namibian (n=554) schoolteachers were surveyed to identify their understanding of causes of their students' challenging behavior and how they addressed the behaviors. Results of the study indicated that the teachers perceived challenging behavior as related to discipline and not disability. Most teachers also believed that both home and school environmental factors influenced challenging behavior. Furthermore, most schoolteachers from both countries did not believe that physical punishment was an effective way to address challenging behavior and did not support its use in schools. Teacher training programs in both countries need to emphasize the use of evidence-based proactive strategies to address students' challenging behavior in order to minimize the use of punitive strategies such as physical punishment.

Vitiligo is the most common skin depigmentation disorder, characterized by skin or mucous membrane depigmentation. It has a prevalence rate of 0.5 % to 2.0 %. It has an effect on the patient’s appearance and is known to cause mental problems such as anxiety and depression. Vitiligo appears to be a multigenic condition based on the pattern of inheritance, which skips generations but obviously clusters within families. The TYR (Tyrosinase) as categorized as a protein coding gene diseases associated linked with encompass albinism, oculocutaneous, typeIA, Albinism, Oculocutaneous and Type IB. TYR gene is located on human chromosome 11q14.3. This gene is about 117844 bp long starting from the molecular location 89177875 to 89295759 base pairs on chromosome 11 according to Homo Sapiens Annotation Release 110, GRCh38.p14 (NCBI), which includes 6 exons. In this current study an effort was put into the identification of SNP which change the structure and function of coded protein TYR. We have checked the pathogenicity of mutation (c.575C > A resulting into p.Ser192TYR) with the help of different computational protein prediction tools e.g. POLYPHEN-2, phd-SNP, Panther, SNP&GO, PredictSNP, I-Mutant and Mupro identified the SNP as disease causing. We conclude that mutation p.Ser192TYR changing the structural confirmation of protein due which effect on the stability of protein resulting into disease. The stability analysis of the tyrosinase protein was conducted using the I-Mutant and Mupro server. Gene-gene interactions were explored through STRING. Energy minimization was performed on both wild and mutant protein revealing substantial differences. The biovia discovery studio was utilized to superimpose the model structure of wild and mutant protein, illustrating difference in protein helix fold. The study offer in silico evidence of vitiligo as a protein folding disorder. Molecular docking analysis revealed that the tyrosinase protein significantly altered stability in the active binding site and surrounding ligand interaction surface. Then a, 100 ns MD simulation was conducted to validate the behavior of the complex structure formed the vitiligo protein under in silico physiological condition and explore its temporal stability. Over the past decade, boldine, a naturally occurring alkaloid found in several plant species including the Chilean Boldo tree, has garnered attention for its efficacy in rodent models of human disease. Some of the properties that have been attributed to boldine include antioxidant activities, neuroprotective and analgesic actions, hepatoprotective effects, anti-inflammatory actions, cardioprotective effects and anticancer potential. Compelling data now indicates that boldine blocks connexin (Cx) hemichannels (HCs) and that many if not all of its effects in rodent models of injury and disease are due to CxHC blockade. Here we provide an overview of boldine’s pharmacological properties, including its efficacy in rodent models of common human injuries and diseases, and of its absorption, distribution, pharmacokinetics, and metabolism.

Fifteen poplar varieties were used in a field trial to investigate the phytoremediation efficiency, stress resistance, and wood property of poplar hybrid varieties with diverse genetic backgrounds under the composite pollution of heavy metals. The coefficient of variation and clone repeatability for growth traits and Cd concentration were large. The Cd accumulation of poplar varieties 107 and QHQ reached 1.9 and 1.7 mg, respectively, followed by QHB, Ti, 69, and Pa, in which Cd accumulation reached 1.3 mg. Most of the intra-specific hybrid varieties (69, QH1, SL4, T3, and ZL46) had low Cd concentrations and small biomass, resulting in weak Cd accumulation and low phytoremediation efficiency for Cd-polluted soil. By contrast, the inter-sectional and inter-specific hybrid varieties exhibited better growth performance and accumulated higher concentrations of heavy metals than the intra-specific hybrids. The bioconcentration factor and translocation factor of Hg, As, and Pb were less than 1, indicating that poplars have low phytoremediation efficiency for these heavy metals. The hybrids between section Aigeiros and Tacamahaca (QHQ and QHB) and the inter-specific hybrid 107 within section Aigeiros were more resistant to composite heavy metal stress than the other poplar varieties were partially because of their high levels of free proline that exceeded 93 μg·g−1 FW. According to the correlation analysis of the concentrations of the different heavy metals, the poplar roots absorbed different heavy metals in a cooperative manner, indicating that elite poplar varieties with superior capacity for accumulating diverse heavy metals can be bred feasibly. Compared with the intra-specific hybrid varieties, the inter-sectional (QHQ and QHB) and inter-specific (107) hybrid varieties had higher pollution remediation efficiency, larger biomass, higher cellulose content, and lower lignin content, which is beneficial for pulpwood. Therefore, breeding and extending inter-sectional (QHQ and QHB) and inter-specific hybrid varieties can improve the phytoremediation of composite pollution.

Airborne contaminants pose significant environmental and health challenges. Titanium dioxide (TiO2) has emerged as a leading photocatalyst in the degradation of air contaminants compared to other photocatalysts due to its inherent inertness, cost-effectiveness, and photostability. To assess its effectiveness, laboratory examinations are frequently employed to measure the photocatalytic degradation rate of TiO2. However, this approach involves time-consuming requirements, labor-intensive tasks, and high costs. In literature, ensemble or standalone models are commonly used for assessing the performance of TiO2 photocatalytic degradation of water and air contaminants. Nonetheless, the application of metaheuristic hybrid models has the potential to be more effective in predictive accuracy and efficiency. Accordingly, this research utilized hybrid machine learning (ML) algorithms to estimate the photo-degradation rate constants of organic air pollutants using TiO2 nanoparticles and exposure to ultraviolet light. Six metaheuristics optimization algorithms, namely, nuclear reaction optimization (NRO), differential evolution algorithm (DEA), human felicity algorithm (HFA), lightning search algorithm (LSA), Harris hawks algorithm (HHA), and tunicate swarm algorithm (TSA) were combined with random forest (RF) technique to establish the hybrid models. A database of 200 data points was acquired from experimental studies for model training and testing. Furthermore, multiple statistical indicators and 10-fold cross-validation were employed to examine the established hybrid model's accuracy and robustness. The TSA-RF model demonstrated superior prediction accuracy among the six suggested models, achieving an impressive correlation (R) of 0.90 and a lower root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.25. In contrast, the HFA-RF, HHA-RF, and NRO-RF models exhibited a slightly lower R-value of 0.88, with RMSE scores of 0.32. The DEA-RF and LSA-RF models, while effective, showed a marginally lower R-value of 0.85, with RMSE values of 0.45 and 0.44, respectively. Moreover, the SHapley Additive exPlanation (SHAP) results indicated that the degradation rates of air contaminants through photocatalysis were most notably influenced by factors such as the reactor sizes, photocatalyst dosage, humidity, and intensity.

Purpose: (1) To systematically review treatments for partial extensor mechanism tendon tears in professional and amateur athletes and (2) to report outcomes for patients undergoing operative versus nonoperative management. Methods: PubMed, Cochrane, Scopus, Google Scholar, and Web of Science were queried in August 2023 using the following Boolean search: (quadriceps OR patella) AND (partial) AND (tear). Articles were included if they reported outcomes of operative or nonoperative management of partial extensor mechanism tears of the knee in athletes. The review adhered to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses criteria. Each study was queried for demographics, tendon injured, sport and level of athlete, prior treatments, final treatment modality, and return to sport (RTS) outcomes of that treatment. A qualitative subanalysis was performed for professional athletes. Results: Ten studies met inclusion criteria and included 191 partial patellar or quadriceps tendon tears. Of the patients, 81.6% were male and 18.4% were female, with average age ranging from 21 to 28 years; 97% of patients underwent initial nonoperative management. Ultimately, 111 patients (58.1%) were maintained on nonoperative management, and 80 (41.9%) progressed to surgery. Of surgeries, 39 (48.8%) were tendon debridements, 36 (45.0%) were repairs, and 5 (6.3%) were not specified. RTS rates ranged from 33% to 93% after surgery and 70% to 89% following conservative management. Of professional athletes, 23 (33%) underwent surgery, and 46 (67%) underwent ultimate conservative management. RTS rates ranged from 33% to 67% after surgery and were 89% for the applicable study of conservative management. Conclusions: Nearly all patients with partial extensor mechanism tears underwent initial nonoperative management. RTS rates were high but somewhat variable among both patients treated with final nonoperative versus surgical management. Even among professional athletes, most injuries were treated with initial nonoperative management and did not progress to surgery. The purpose of this study is to examine how employee retention in Indonesian ports is impacted by workload, work-life balance, and safety. The study makes use of primary data and a quantitative methodology. The study's 200 participants are Pelabuhan Indonesia employees. Saturated samples, or sampling strategies that use the entire population as a sample, are the method used in this study. Questionnaires are used to collect data. According to the study's findings, (1) workload is somewhat positively correlated with employee retention (tcalculate > ttable), meaning that (3.261 > 1.65259), with a significance level of 0.01. (2) With a significance level of 0.012, partial work balance has a positive impact on employee retention (tcount > ttable), resulting in (2.533 > 1.6529). (3) There is a partial positive relationship between work safety and employee retention (tcalculate > ttable), resulting in (2.414 > 1.6529) with a significance level of 0.017. (4) Employee retention (Fhitung>Ftabel), or (10.261 > 3.04), is influenced (simultaneously) by workload, work balance, and work safety, with a significance level of 0.000 < 0.05. Based on the research findings, it can be inferred that the workload variable positively affects employee retention in the Port of Indonesia company, as does work balance

IntroductionOver the past few decades, there has been growing concern about the concurrent trends of increasing Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) prevalence and declining sperm quality. These trends represent significant public health challenges that warrant thorough investigation of their underlying causes and implications.ObjectivesThe primary objectives of this study are to analyze trends in ASD prevalence and sperm quality parameters from 2000 to 2024, assess the statistical significance and effect size of these trends, explore potential correlations between ASD prevalence and sperm quality parameters, and identify significant predictors among sperm quality parameters that influence ASD prevalence.MethodsThis study employed a longitudinal approach using multiple regression, time series analysis, ANOVA, Principal Component Analysis (PCA), hierarchical clustering, logistic regression, and cross-correlation analysis. Data on ASD prevalence were sourced from the CDC Autism and Developmental Disabilities Monitoring Network, while sperm quality data were collected from various published studies.ResultsThe findings reveal significant negative associations between ASD prevalence and sperm quality parameters such as sperm concentration and motility, suggesting that better sperm quality is linked to lower ASD rates. Conversely, parameters like sperm DNA fragmentation (SDF), volume of ejaculate, pH level, and semen viscosity show positive associations with ASD prevalence, indicating higher values in these parameters correlate with higher ASD rates.ConclusionThe study highlights the importance of maintaining reproductive health to potentially mitigate ASD risk and calls for further research to elucidate the underlying mechanisms driving these trends. These findings support the hypothesis that reproductive health factors play a crucial role in ASD etiology and suggest potential biological markers for assessing ASD risk.

تُعدالبيمارستانات من المُنشآت العامة التي تُعنى بتقديم الخدمات العلاجية، والطبية للمرضى، وقد انتشرت في مدن الجزيرة الفراتية في ظل السيطرة الزنكية، والأيوبية العديد من المشافي، والمارستانات اسوة ببقية المدن الاسلامية الأخرى، وقد واكب إنشاؤها، والاهتمام بها تطور المجتمع الإسلامي، والنمو العمراني فيها، فضلاً عن العوامل التي استجدت في بلاد الجزيرة الفراتية خلال القرنين السادس، والسابع الهجريين الثاني عشر والثالث عشر الميلادي كحدوث الأزمات، والكوارث الطبيعية، وكثرة الحروب التي ساهمت في زيادة اهتمام الزنكيين، والأيوبيين بخدمات الرعاية الصحية، وانشاء البيمارستانات المُختلفة لتقديم العلاج للمرضى، فضلاً عن كونها كانت مراكز تعليمية مُتقدمة، كان يتلقى فيها طلبة الطب علومهم النظرية، والتطبيقية. وقد سعى الحكام في اقليم الجزيرة الفراتية الى تجهيز بيمارستاناتهم بكل ما تحتاج إليه، وألحقوا بها صيدليات، وخزائن للكتب الطبية، كما عينّوا لكل منها ناظراً أو مديراً يُشرف على إدارتها، وقد بهر تقدمهم في هذا المجال أعدائهم الصليبيين، فاقتبسوا منهم الكثير من أساليب العلاج، كما قلّدوا المسلمين في بناء تلك البيمارستانات الاسلامية. والبحث الذي بين أيدينا مُحاولة لاستعراض بيمارستانات الجزيرة الفراتية التي تمّ انشائها في العهدين الزنكي، والأيوبي، وأبرز العوامل التي ساهمت في الأهتمام بالجوانب الصحية آنذاك، وطبيعة الخدمات العلاجية التي كانت تُقدمها البيمارستانات للمرضى، وأبرز الأطباء الذين خدموا فيها، وقد ارتأينا تقسيم البحث الى ثلاث مباحث، وخاتمة، استعرض المبحث الأول: التعريف بالبيمارستانات لغة واصطلاحاً، وأنواعها، ونظام العمل فيها ، أما المبحث الثاني: فتّطرق أبرز العوامل التي ساهمت في دعم، وانشاء البيمارستانات في اقليم الجزيرة الفراتية في القرنين السادس، والسابع الهجريين، والمبحث الثالث، والأخير:فُخصّص للحديث عن بيمارستانات الجزيرة الفراتية، وأبرز الأطباء الذين عملوا فيها آنذاك.

In the presence of a newly created brightener, the zinc metal is coated on steel using the electro deposition process. Experiments using hull cells are used to optimize the settings and components of plating baths. Tafel Polarization and EIS techniques were used to conduct corrosion experiments, which made it possible to investigate the brilliant zinc coating's effective corrosion resistance. SEM and Reflectance spectroscopy both confirm that the bright zinc coating has modified surface morphology. XRD analysis is used to study and validate changes in crystallite orientation and phase structure. Electrochemical methods and theoretical molecular dynamic (MD) simulations were used to examine the interaction between Zn and the metal surface. FTIR spectroscopy has been used in blend investigations which impacts on the physical characteristics of polymer blends. The results of these research showed how novel brighteners can improve zinc deposits' brightness and corrosion resistance when applied to mild steel substrates.

California and its regional and local governments have invested heavily in public transit over the past half-century to provide an alternative to driving, ease traffic congestion, reduce emissions, slow climate change, steer new development, and provide mobility for those without. As a result, bus service has improved and expanded, and many parts of the state’s metropolitan areas are now served by rail transit.Yet today, many of the state’s transit systems are struggling operationally and financially. Ridership began eroding in the half-decade leading up to 2020 and plummeted at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Three federal pandemic relief bills provided a critical lifeline to keep struggling transit systems afloat early on, but these funds are running out. Meanwhile, operating costs have risen, ridership and fare revenues have only partially returned, and some transit systems face “fiscal cliffs,” where they will need substantial new infusions of funding, substantial cuts in costs and service, or some combination of the two.Against this backdrop, this report examines the current state of California transit finance: why ridership and fare revenues are down and their prospects for recovery; what lessons the successful federal relief bills provide; why commuter-oriented systems are struggling financially much more than those that primarily service transit-reliant riders; and what the financial managers at transit systems have done to cope with this turbulent time and how they see their future financial prospects.

The COVID-19 pandemic occasioned significant financial distress and uncertainty for many U.S. transit operators. In the face of this crisis, the federal government provided substantial supplemental operating support. To understand how this fiscal turmoil and relief have affected U.S. transit systems, we conducted two nationwide surveys of transit agency staff in 2020 and 2021-2022. While pandemic-induced financial shortfalls affected service in 2020, with capital projects delayed too, these effects became much more muted by 2021/2022. Most systems reported moderate to substantial increases in federal funding during the pandemic, more so than other funding categories. However, nearly half foresee financial shortfalls once federal relief funding expires. Agencies with higher pre-pandemic ridership and farebox recovery are particularly affected by fare revenue losses and more likely to anticipate shortfalls. In the near term, difficulty hiring and retaining front-line workers was a pressing concern, while very few had plans to maintain pandemic fare suspensions.
