Abstract Lung oligometastases represent an intermediate state of cancer dissemination between localized and widespread metastases. Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) has emerged as an effective treatment option, with an efficacy comparable to that of surgical resection. This review aimed to provide a comprehensive summary of the latest advancements and controversial issues regarding SBRT for lung oligometastases. It focuses on four crucial perspectives: efficacy of SBRT, optimal patient selection criteria, technological innovations, and synergistic effects of SBRT combined with systemic therapy. Relevant clinical trials investigating SBRT for lung oligometastases have been conducted, with median 1‐ and 5‐year local control rates of 90% and 79%, respectively. The origin of the primary tumor, size and number of lesions, and biomarker profiles were highlighted as pivotal considerations in patient selection. The precise dose delivery was enhanced using robotic SBRT and optimized dose fractionation schemes. Evidence suggests that dose escalation above 100 Gy biologically effective dose may improve tumor control. Combined immunotherapy and SBRT have demonstrated synergistic effects in prolonging progression‐free survival and overall survival. This review provides valuable insights into the precise treatment of oligometastatic lung diseases using SBRT. Further multicenter randomized trials are warranted to develop definitive patient selection criteria and optimize the integration with systemic therapies.

Abstract Background Antiretroviral therapy (ART) can reduce viral load in individuals infected with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV); however, some HIV-infected individuals still cannot achieve optimal immune recovery even after ART. Hence, we described the profile of peripheral immune cells and explored the association with disease progression in patients infected with HIV-1. Methods Mass cytometry analysis was used to characterize the circulating immune cells of 20 treatment-naïve (TNs), 20 immunological non-responders (INRs), 20 immunological responders (IRs), and 10 healthy controls (HCs). Correlation analysis was conducted between cell subpopulation percentages and indicators including HIV-1 cell-associated (CA)-RNA, DNA, CD4+ T cell count, and CD4/CD8 ratio. Results Global activation, immunosenescence, and exhaustion phenotypes were observed in myeloid cells and T cells from individuals with HIV-1 infection. We also found that specific subsets or clusters of myeloid, CD4+ T, and CD8+ T cells were significantly lost or increased in TN individuals, which could be partially restored after receiving ART. The percentages of several subpopulations correlated with HIV-1 CA-RNA, DNA, CD4+ T cell count, and CD4/CD8 ratio, suggesting that changes in immune cell composition were associated with therapeutic efficacy. Conclusion These data provide a complete profile of immune cell subpopulations or clusters that are associated with disease progression during chronic HIV-1 infection, which will improve understanding regarding the mechanism of incomplete immune recovery in INRs.

AIM: To evaluate the effect of symmetrical arc incision correcting corneal astigmatism in femtosecond laser-assisted phacoemulsification (FLACS). METHODS: This study enrolled patients with cataract combined with regular corneal astigmatism of >0.75 D, who underwent FLACS. Symmetrical arc incision was set at 8 mm diameter and 85% depth. The follow-up time was 3-24mo (4.92±3.49mo). Pentacam recorded the corneal astigmatism and higher-order aberration at pre-operation and post-operation. The changes in corneal astigmatism were analyzed by Alpins method. The correlation of astigmatism type, age, corneal horizontal diameter, corneal thickness, arc incision length, and correction index (CI) was analyzed, and the residual corneal astigmatism was compared with the residual whole eye astigmatism. RESULTS: Totally 79 patients (102 eyes) were enrolled, 10 patients had corneal epithelial injury, 1 patient occurred corneal epithelial hyperplasia. The corneal astigmatism was 1.23±0.38 D pre-operation, and decreased to 0.76±0.39 D post-operation (t=10.146, P=0.000). Corneal high-order aberration was 0.17±0.08 μm pre-operation and 0.24±0.11 μm post-operation (t=-5.186, P=0.000). The residual corneal astigmatism and residual whole eye astigmatism were no significant difference (t=-0.347, P=0.729). Using Alpin's method, the following were determined: target-induced astigmatism (TIA) =1.23±0.38 D, surgery-induced astigmatism (SIA) =0.77±0.45 D, difference vector (DV)=0.77±0.39 D, and CI=0.54±0.28. Age, astigmatism size, corneal horizontal diameter, corneal thickness, and arc incision length were not correlated with CI. The CI for against the rule astigmatism (ATR) was better than that for with the rule astigmatism (WTR; P=0.001). CONCLUSION: Femtosecond laser-assisted astigmatic keratotomy has better CI of ATR, but increase higher-order corneal aberration. CI is not ideal, it's not a perfect choice if we pursue ideal correction effect.

The Water Erosion Prediction Project (WEPP) model has been widely used for estimating runoff and soil loss. The evaluation of the latest version (version 2021.133) under a range of environmental conditions can provide confidence to its users. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the WEPP model for runoff and soil loss predictions using 1159 plot years of rainfall-runoff events data from field experimental plots with various climates, soils, topographies, and crops. WEPP runoff and soil loss predictions were compared to the observations before and after input parameter calibration. The results showed good predictions of runoff and soil loss were obtained with both the uncalibrated and calibrated WEPP model for all considered scales with Nash-Sutcliffe model efficiencies (NSE) over 0.4. The calibration of input baseline effective hydraulic conductivity (ke), baseline critical shear stress (τc), baseline rill erodibility (kr), and baseline interrill erodibility (ki) improved WEPP model performance with NSE values of 0.98 and 0.91 for average annual runoff and soil loss predictions, respectively. The WEPP model tended to underestimate the runoff and soil loss for large events with runoff over 100 mm and soil loss over 120 t/ha. Good event runoff and soil loss predictions (NSE ≥0.4) were obtained for the most common cropping/management systems considered, including corn, cotton, tilled fallow, and wheat after calibration. This study illustrates the most recent WEPP model's performance for runoff and soil loss predictions, and provides a comprehensive set of results.

The inhibition of resveratrol on the formation of thermally induced trans fatty acids in peanut oil and its structure-activity relationship were studied by gas chromatography (GC), liquid chromatography (LC), and theoretical calculation. The results showed that the content of resveratrol decreased with an increase in temperature, and too high temperatures caused a cut-off effect. Resveratrol significantly inhibited the formation of trans fatty acids in peanut oil, and the inhibition rate of total trans fatty acids decreased with increasing temperature. The highest inhibition rate of cis-trans isomerization of fatty acids was 30.30%. The inhibitory effect could be attributed to the energy barrier formed by reducing the rate of isomerization reaction and increasing the amount of trans fatty acids. Its quantitative parameters (intrinsic thermodynamic energy and total entropy) determined the anti-isomerization effect. Moreover, the structure-activity relationship for the anti-isomerization effect was established, which will lay a theoretical foundation for the precise regulation of trans fatty acids.

Influenced by multiple factors such as low light intensity, dispersed light, excessive dust, and excessive ambient noise inside cable tunnels, the images captured by cable tunnel inspection robots have shortcomings such as low contrast, low pixel values, and high noise. To improve the image quality, this paper proposes an image enhancement method suitable for cable tunnel inspection robot. First, in this paper, a bivariate hybrid optimization module using the alternating direction multiplier method and the adaptive learning rate acceleration SVRG algorithm is constructed to achieve image pre-processing. Second, a feature extraction module combining a U-Net network and a coordinate attention mechanism is constructed to extract features from the original image and the pre-processed image. Third, the progressive feature fusion module and the image recovery module are constructed to fuse the above features and are combined with the original image to obtain the enhanced image. Finally, the pixel compensation module is constructed to compensate for the features of the enhanced image and recover the lost texture details.

The intestinal epithelial barrier plays an important role during human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) disease progression. However, the extent to which the intestinal epithelial barrier is damaged in immunological non-responders (INRs) and immunological responders (IRs) is largely unknown. In this study, we investigated and compared the levels of intestinal gland damage and related molecules, including the tight junction protein claudin-1, apoptosis marker caspase-3, HIV DNA, CD4+ T cell count, and inflammation marker tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) among the IRs (n = 10), INRs (n = 8), and healthy controls (HCs, n = 7). Intestinal damage was not completely restored in both INRs and IRs and was more serious in INRs than that in IRs. Moreover, intestinal damage was positively correlated with HIV DNA levels and negatively correlated with CD4+ T cell counts. These results provide insight into understanding the characteristics of intestinal epithelial barrier damage between IRs and INRs.

Abstract The occurrence of osteoarthritis (OA) is highly correlated with the reduction of joint lubrication performance, in which persistent excessive inflammation and irreversible destruction of cartilage dominate the mechanism. The inadequate response to monotherapy methods, suboptimal efficacy caused by undesirable bioavailability, short retention, and lack of stimulus-responsiveness, are few unresolved issues. Herein, we report a pH-responsive metal-organic framework (MOF), namely, MIL-101-NH2, for the co-delivery of anti-inflammatory drug curcumin (CCM) and small interfering RNA (siRNA) for hypoxia inducible factor (HIF-2α). CCM and siRNA were loaded via encapsulation and surface coordination ability of MIL-101-NH2. Our vitro tests showed that MIL-101-NH2 protected siRNA from nuclease degradation by lysosomal escape. The pH-responsive MIL-101-NH2 gradually collapsed in an acidic OA microenvironment to release the CCM payloads to down-regulate the level of pro-inflammatory cytokines, and to release the siRNA payloads to cleave the target HIF-2α mRNA for gene-silencing therapy, ultimately exhibiting the synergetic therapeutic efficacy by silencing HIF-2α genes accompanied by inhibiting the inflammation response and cartilage degeneration of OA. The hybrid material reported herein exhibited promising potential performance for OA therapy as supported by both in vitro and in vivo studies and may offer an efficacious therapeutic strategy for OA utilizing MOFs as host materials.

Background and aim: Cannabis sativa L. is a medicinal plant with a long history. Phyto-cannabinoids are a class of compounds from C. sativa L. with varieties of structures. Endocannabinoids exist in the human body. This article provides an overview of natural cannabinoids (phyto-cannabinoids and endocannabinoids) with an emphasis on their pharmacology activities. Experimental procedure: The keywords “Cannabis sativa L″, “cannabinoids”, and “central nervous system (CNS) diseases” were used for searching and collecting pieces of literature from PubMed, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. The data were extracted and analyzed to explore the effects of cannabinoids on CNS diseases. Result and conclusion: In this paper, schematic diagrams are used to intuitively show the phyto-cannabinoids skeletons’ mutual conversion and pharmacological activities, with special emphasis on their relevant pharmacological activities on central nervous system (CNS) diseases. It was found that the endocannabinoid system and microglia play a crucial role in the treatment of CNS diseases. In the past few years, pharmacological studies focused on Δ9-THC, CBD, and the endocannabinoids system. It is expected to encourage new studies on a more deep exploration of other types of cannabinoids and the mechanism of their pharmacological activities in the future.

Graphene oxide(GO) has attracted extensive attention in the field of water environment treatment due to its large specific surface area and rich oxygen-containing functional groups. Graphene oxide was modified by carboxylation. The effects of solution pH, ionic strength, reaction time and initial concentration on the adsorption performance of carboxylated graphene oxide were systematically studied. It was found that carboxylated graphene oxide has strong adsorption capacity for Nd3+. The adsorption rate of Nd3+ on carboxylated graphene oxide is very fast, and most of Nd3+ can be adsorbed in 10 min. The adsorption equilibrium can be reached in 30 min, which is accord with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model. The adsorption performance is almost not affected by ionic strength. The adsorption isotherm is in accordance with Langmuir model, which indicates that the adsorption process is monolayer chemical adsorption. The study of Nd3+ adsorption behavior by carboxylated GO materials provides a new choice for the separation of rare earth elements in water treatment.
