Background: Medial epicondyle fractures are one of the more common humerus fractures, but humeral medial condyle fracture (HMCF) is rare. Nonunion of medial humeral condyle fractures due to functional exercise is less common.Case Presentation: We report a 5-year-old patient with a nonunion HMCF due to excessive functional exercise, who bruised the elbow 1 year ago and had no positive findings on all imaging studies. On this physical examination, there was a snapping and palpable lump in the elbow joint during movement, but the patient did not feel any discomfort and the range of motion of the joint was normal. X rays and computed tomography (CT) showed that the left HMCF was discontinuous, the broken ends were dislocated, and the joint alignment was poor. Open reduction (OR) and screw fixation was used during the operation, and the patient recovered well at 3-month follow-up.Conclusions: The rarity and low radiographic appearance of displaced HMCF are easily overlooked and can eventually lead to nonunion HMCF, especially when radiographically difficult to visualize before age 5 years. Therefore, regardless of whether there are signs or imaging abnormalities in the growth process of adolescents, they should be vigilant, shorten the time interval for re-examination, and early detection and timely treatment can avoid some complications caused by this. The difference of nutrient composition between organic eggs and conventional eggs has always been a concern of people. In this study, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technique combined with multivariate statistical analyses was conducted to identify the metabolite different in egg yolk and egg white in order to reveal the nutritional components information between organic and conventional eggs. The results showed that the nutrient content and composition characteristics were different between organic and conventional eggs, among which the content of glucose, putrescine, amino acids and their derivatives were found higher in the organic eggs yolk, while phospholipids were demonstrated higher in conventional eggs yolk. Organic acid, alcohol, amine, choline and amino acids were higher in conventional eggs white, but glucose and lactate in organic egg were higher. Our study demonstrated that there are more nutritive components and higher nutritional value in organic eggs than conventional eggs, especially for the growth and development of infants and young children, and conventional eggs have more advantages in promoting lipid metabolism, preventing fatty liver, and reducing serum cholesterol. Background. This research is aimed at establishing a scoring system alpha-fetoprotein+alkaline phosphatase (A-A score) based on preoperative serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels and to investigate its clinical significance in patients with ruptured hepatocellular carcinoma (rHCC) after hepatectomy. Methods. 175 ruptured hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients treated with hepatectomy were included. Survival analysis was assessed by the Kaplan-Meier method. Prognostic factors were analyzed in a multivariate model. Preoperative serum AFP and ALP values are assigned a score of 1 if they exceed the threshold value and 0 if they are below the threshold value, A-A score is obtained by summing the scores of two variables (AFP, ALP), and the predictive values of AFP, ALP, and A-A score were compared by receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis, and subgroup analyses were performed to further evaluate the power of A-A scores. Results. Of the 175 patients, 67 (38.3%) had an A-A score of 0, 72 (41.1%) had an A-A score of 1, and 36 (20.6%) had an A-A score of 2. In multivariate analysis, the A-A score, the BCLC stage, and the extent of resection were independent predictors of OS in patients with rHCC. The 1-, 3-, and 5-year OS and RFS in patients with an A-A score of 1 were better than those with an A-A score of 0 and worse than those with an A-A score of 1 (all p < 0.05). Based on the results of ROC analysis, the A-A score is superior to AFP or ALP alone in predicting the prognosis of patients with ruptured HCC. In subgroup analysis, A-A score could accurately predict the prognosis of patients with or without microvascular invasion (MVI) and with different Child-Pugh grades or gender. Conclusions. The A-A score can effectively predict the prognosis of patients after hepatectomy of ruptured hepatocellular carcinoma. At the same time, it also has good evaluation ability in different subgroups. Background and Aims. Conflicting results are often observed in the prognosis of patients with ruptured hepatocellular carcinoma (rHCC), and there are currently very few studies on the long-term postoperative outcomes of ruptured hepatocellular carcinoma patients. This study aimed to distinguish between the postoperative prognosis of rHCC patients with cirrhosis (rHCC-C) and those without cirrhosis (rHCC-NC) using some serum markers. Methods. We collected the data of 151 rHCC patients treated at our centers from January 2010 to March 2021. 62 had no cirrhosis, and 89 had cirrhosis. The prognosis of rHCC-C and rHCC-NC groups was compared using the Kaplan-Meier method. We used multivariate Cox regression to analyze prognostic factors in rHCC patients, and subgroup analysis was performed on the two groups of patients. Results. The long-term prognosis of rHCC-NC patients was better than that of rHCC-C patients. Tumor diameter, Barcelona clinic liver cancer (BCLC) stage, HBsAg, positive Hepatitis C virus (HCV) antibodies, elevated creatinine, and elevated T-bilirubin were prognostic factors for overall survival (OS) in rHCC-C patients. However, only alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) > 92 ng/mL was a prognostic factor for OS in rHCC-NC patients. In noncirrhotic patients, HBsAg positivity was only associated with OS. Similarly, the presence or absence of microvascular invasion (MVI) also had different results in the two groups. Conclusions. There are differences in serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) levels, the presence of microvascular invasion (MVI), and HBsAg positivity between rHCC-C and rHCC-NC patients, indicating that the analysis of these prognostic factors may help improve the management of rHCC patients and provide a direction for future treatment options. Drug–target interactions (DTIs) prediction research presents important significance for promoting the development of modern medicine and pharmacology. Traditional biochemical experiments for DTIs prediction confront the challenges including long time period, high cost and high failure rate, and finally leading to a low-drug productivity. Chemogenomic-based computational methods can realize high-throughput prediction. In this study, we develop a deep collaborative filtering prediction model with multiembeddings, named DCFME (deep collaborative filtering prediction model with multiembeddings), which can jointly utilize multiple feature information from multiembeddings. Two different representation learning algorithms are first employed to extract heterogeneous network features. DCFME uses the generated low-dimensional dense vectors as input, and then simulates the drug–target relationship from the perspective of both couplings and heterogeneity. In addition, the model employs focal loss that concentrates the loss on sparse and hard samples in the training process. Comparative experiments with five baseline methods show that DCFME achieves more significant performance improvement on sparse datasets. The advisor-advisee relationship represents direct knowledge heritage, and such relationship may not be readily available from academic libraries and search engines. This work aims to discover advisor-advisee relationships hidden behind scientific collaboration networks. For this purpose, we propose a novel model based on Network Representation Learning (NRL), namely Shifu2, which takes the collaboration network as input and the identified advisor-advisee relationship as output. In contrast to existing NRL models, Shifu2 considers not only the network structure but also the semantic information of nodes and edges. Shifu2 encodes nodes and edges into low-dimensional vectors respectively, both of which are then utilized to identify advisor-advisee relationships. Experimental results illustrate improved stability and effectiveness of the proposed model over state-of-the-art methods. This paper presents a 2-D vector microdisplacement sensor based on mode coupling between single-mode fiber (SMF) and two-mode fiber (TMF). The offset alignment between SMF and TMF along the radial direction of optical fibers can influence the mode coefficients of LP01 mode, LP11o mode, and LP11e mode in TMF, including mode power proportion coefficients and mode relative phase coefficients. Modal decomposition based on digital holography is used for obtaining these mode coefficients. The variations of mode coefficients of all modes in TMF with the change of the offset between SMF and TMF (i.e., microdisplacement) in two vertical directions are simulated. Experimental results are consistent with simulation results, displaying that the microdisplacement in the range from −5 to $5~\mu \text{m}$ along the positive or negative $x$ -axis or $y$ -axis direction can be judged by using the proposed scheme based on mode demodulation technology. Vehicular social networks (VSNs) have attracted the research community due to its diverse applications ranging from safety to entertainment. Social vehicles standing for private cars and floating cars standing for taxis are two important components of VSN. However, the lack of social vehicles data causes some factors are neglected including social aspects and macroscopic features, which blocks researching social attributes of vehicles in VSN. Generating a realistic mobility dataset for VSN validation has been a great challenge. In this paper, we present the detailed procedure to generate social vehicular mobility dataset from the view of floating car data, which has the advantage of wide universality. First, through the deep analysis and modeling of the dataset of floating cars and combining with the official data, we predict the origin–destination (OD) matrix of social vehicles with the gravity model, and then calibrate the OD matrix with the average growth factor method. Second, we construct network description after editing the road network. Third, we use simulation of urban mobility to reproduce the scenario in view of microsimulation by generating the mobility dataset of social vehicles based on floating car data and urban functional areas. At last, we prove the effectiveness of our method by comparing with real traffic situation in Beijing. The generated mobility model may not accurately represent the mobility of social vehicles in few spots, such as train station or airport, however, exploiting figures and facts of transportation in the city have been considered in the study to calibrate the model up to maximum possible realization. Smart cities have been recognized as a promising research focus around the world. To realize smart cities, computation and utilization of big data are key factors. More specifically, exploring the patterns of human mobility based on large amounts of multi-source data plays an important role in analyzing the formation of social-economic phenomena in smart cities. However, our acquired knowledge is still very limited for smart cities. In this article, we propose an integrated computing method to rescale heterogeneous traffic trajectory data, which leverages MLE and BIC. Our analysis is based on two real datasets generated by subway smart card transactions and taxi GPS trajectories from Shanghai, China, which contain more than 451 million trading records by 14 subway lines and 34 billion GPS records by 13,695 taxis. Specifically, we quantitatively explore the patterns of human mobility on weekends and weekdays. Through logarithmic binning and data fitness, we calculate the Bayesian weights to select the best fitting distributions. In addition, we leverage three metrics to analyze the patterns of human mobility in two datasets: trip displacement, trip duration, and trip interval. As the important chiral building block of levetiracetam, the synthesis of ( S )-2-aminobutanamide has attracted a great deal of attention. The d -aminopeptidase catalyzed kinetic resolution of 2-aminobutanamide was demonstrated as an effective strategy for ( S )-2-aminobutanamide production. In this study, a novel d -aminopeptidase from Brucella sp. ( Bs -Dap) was screened and systematically characterized. The enzyme exhibited maximum activity at 45 °C, pH 8.0 and it showed relatively low K m value toward 2-aminobutanamide, indicating its high affinity to the substrate. Kinetic resolution of 300 g/L 2-aminobutanamide by recombinant Escherichia coli whole cells (4 g/L wet cell weight) resulted in 50% conversion and >99% e.e. within 80 min. A compact and highly sensitive temperature sensor based on mode conversion in the ring-core fiber (RCF) incorporating an asymmetric long-period grating (aLPG) is proposed and theoretically simulated. The RCF is composed of a hollow core and a high refractive index ring. The aLPG inscribed in the upper half ring generates mode conversion between modes with different azimuthal orders within the ring. A composite resonant dip containing dual-resonant dips which are generated by mode conversion from HE 11x to \mathrmTE01 and HE 21x can be observed in the transmission spectrum. The hollow core is infiltrated with a refractive index liquid whose material refractive index can be modulated via temperature, so the wavelength of the resonant dip can be modulated by temperature, which displays a high sensitivity of 12.92 nm/°C ( 32.3~\mu \textm /RIU). Vehicular transportation is an essential part of modern cities. However, the ever increasing number of road accidents, traffic congestion, and other such issues become obstacles for the realization of smart cities. As the integration of the Internet of Vehicles and social networks, vehicular social networks (VSNs) are promising to solve the above-mentioned problems by enabling smart mobility in modern cities, which are likely to pave the way for sustainable development by promoting transportation efficiency. In this article, the definition of and a brief introduction to VSNs are presented first. Existing supporting communication technologies are then summarized. Furthermore, we introduce an application scenario on trajectory data-analysis-based traffic anomaly detection for VSNs. The aim of the present study was to investigate the anticancer activities of Nelumbo nucifera (Ba lotus) stamen ethanol crude extract (BLSEE) in human colon carcinoma HCT-116 cells. MTT assay, flow cytometry analysis and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction assay were employed to investigate the anticancer mechanisms of BLSEE (100, 200 and 400 µg/ml) in HCT-116 cells. BLSEE reduced HCT-116 cell proliferation in a dose-dependent manner. BLSEE treatment also significantly increased the sub-G1 population in HCT-116 cells (P=0.0020 at 400 µg/ml), as shown by flow cytometry assay. Following treatment with BLSEE, the mRNA levels of the apoptosis-associated factors Fas, Fas ligand, tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand, death receptor 4 (DR4), death receptor 5 (DR5), caspases 3, 8 and 9, and B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2) associated X protein were increased, and the expression of anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 and Bcl-extra large was decreased in HCT-116 cells. The mRNA levels of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-2, MMP-9, TIMP metallopeptidase inhibitor 1 and TIMP metallopeptidase inhibitor 2 were also regulated by BLSEE treatment. In addition, BLSEE was able to modulate the expression of inflammation-associated nuclear factor-κB, inhibitory κBa, inducible nitric oxide synthase and cyclooxygenase 2 in HCT-116 cells. The present study clearly indicated the cytotoxicity of BLSEE in HCT-116 cells through induced cellular apoptosis. This paper presents a bibliographic analysis of Nature articles based on altmetrics. We assess the concern degree of social users on the Nature articles through the coverage analysis of Twitter and Facebook by publication year and discipline. The social media impact of a Nature article is examined by evaluating the mention rates on Twitter and on Facebook. Moreover, the correlation between tweets and citations is analyzed by publication year, discipline and Twitter user type to explore factors affecting the correlation. The results show that Twitter users have a higher concern degree on Nature articles than Facebook users, and Nature articles have higher and faster-growing impact on Twitter than on Facebook. The results also show that tweets and citations are somewhat related, and they mostly measure different types of impact. To investigate the anticancer activities of alkaloids from the Ba lotus seed (BLSA) in human nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) CNE-1 cells, an MTT assay, flow cytometry, reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and western blotting were performed. BLSA was found to significantly reduce CNE-1 cell proliferation in a dose-dependent manner at all concentrations compared with the control (P<0.05). In addition, flow cytometry analysis identified that BLSA treatment significantly increased the sub-G1 content in CNE-1 cells (P<0.05). Following BLSA treatment, the mRNA and protein levels of a number of apoptosis-related factors, such as caspase family members (caspase-3, -8 and -9), B-cell lymphoma (Bcl)-2-associated X protein, Fas and Fas ligand were significantly increased compared with the control (P<0.05). This was accompanied by a significant decrease in anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 and Bcl-extra large protein expression compared with the control (P<0.05). Furthermore, BLSA treatment was determined to modulate CNE-1 cell expression of nuclear factor (NF)-κB and NF-κB inhibitor α. The results of the present study indicate that BLSA has anticancer activity through inducing cellular apoptosis. Evaluating the impact of a scholarly article is of great significance and has attracted great attentions. Although citation-based evaluation approaches have been widely used, these approaches face limitations e.g. in identifying anomalous citations patterns. This negligence would inevitably cause unfairness and inaccuracy to the article impact evaluation. In this study, in order to discover the anomalous citations and ensure the fairness and accuracy of research outcome evaluation, we investigate the citation relationships between articles using the following factors: collaboration times, the time span of collaboration, citing times and the time span of citing to weaken the relationship of Conflict of Interest (COI) in the citation network. Meanwhile, we study a special kind of COI, namely suspected COI relationship. Based on the COI relationship, we further bring forward the COIRank algorithm, an innovative scheme for accurately assessing the impact of an article. Our method distinguishes the citation strength, and utilizes PageRank and HITS algorithms to rank scholarly articles comprehensively. The experiments are conducted on the American Physical Society (APS) dataset. We find that about 80.88% articles contain contributed citations by co-authors in 26,366 articles and 75.55% articles among these articles are cited by the authors belonging to the same affiliation, indicating COI and suspected COI should not be ignored for evaluating impact of scientific papers objectively. Moreover, our experimental results demonstrate COIRank algorithm significantly outperforms the state-of-art solutions. Reliable social connectivity and transmission of data for popular nodes is vital in multihop ad-hoc social networks (ASNETs). In this networking paradigm, transmission unreliability could be caused by multiple social applications running on a single node. This leads to contentions among nodes and connection paths. In addition, congestion can be the result of multiple senders transmitting data to a single receiver and every sender waiting for a positive acknowledgment to move on. Therefore, the traditional Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) performs poorly in ASNETs because the available bandwidth is shared among nodes using round-trip time, and the acknowledgment is provided individually to every data packet. To solve these issues, we propose a technique called Overhead Control with Reliable Transmission of Popular Packets in Ad-Hoc Social Networks (RTPS), which improves transmission reliability by assigning bandwidth to users based on their popularity levels: Extra bandwidth is assigned to the nodes with higher popularity, and their acknowledgments are sent with higher priority. In addition, RTPS further reduces contentions and packet losses by delaying acknowledgment packet transmissions. Our detailed investigations demonstrate the excellent performance of RTPS in terms of throughput latency and overhead with different hop distances and different numbers of concurrent TCP flows. X-band dual-polarization phased array radar (XPAR-D) possesses high resolution and plays a significant role in detecting meso- and micro-scale convective systems. However, the precipitation attenuation it endures necessitates an effective correction method. This study selected radar data from XPAR-D at the peak of Maofeng Mountain in Guangzhou during 16–17 May 2020 from three precipitation stages after quality control. Attenuation coefficients were calculated for different precipitation types through scattering simulations of raindrop size distribution (RSD) data. Next, an attenuation correction algorithm (MZH-KDP method) was proposed for the radar reflectivity factor (ZH) according to different raindrop types and compared to the ZH-KDP method currently in use. The results indicate that the attenuation amount of XPAR-D echoes depends on the attenuation path and echo intensity. When the attenuation path is shorter and the echo intensity is weaker, the amount of attenuation and correction is smaller. Difficulties arise when there are noticeable deviations, which are challenging to resolve using attenuation correction methods. Longer attenuation paths and stronger echoes highlight the advantages of the MZH-KDP method, while the ZH-KDP method tends to overcorrect the bias. The MZH-KDP method outperforms the ZH-KDP method for different precipitation types. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the preventive effects of banana peel polyphenols (BPPs) against hepatic injury. Mice were divide into normal, control, 100 mg/kg and 200 mg/kg banana peel polyphenol and silymarin groups. All the mice except normal mice were induced with hepatic damage using CCl4. The serum and tissue levels of mice were determined by a kit and the tissues were further examined by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and western blot analysis. BPPs reduced the serum levels of aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase and lactate dehydrogenase in a CCl4-induced mouse model of hepatic injury. Furthermore, BPPs reduced the levels of malondialdehyde and triglyceride, while increasing glutathione levels in the serum and liver tissues of mice. In addition, the effects of 200 mg/kg treatment were more evident, and these effects were comparable to those of the drug silymarin. Serum levels of the cytokines, interleukin (IL)-6, IL-12, tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α and interferon-γ, were reduced in the mice treated with BPPs compared with injury control group mice, and these levels were comparable to those of the normal and silymarin-treated groups. Histopathological examination indicated that BPPs were able to reduce the extent of CCl4-induced liver tissue injury and protect the liver cells. Furthermore, the mRNA and protein expression levels of the inflammation-associated factors cyclooxygenase-2, nitric oxide synthase, TNF-α and IL-1β were reduced in mice treated with BPPs compared with the control group mice. Mice that received 200 mg/kg BPP exhibited reduced expression levels of these factors compared with mice that received 100 mg/kg BPP. Traditional ad-hoc network packet scheduling schemes cannot fulfill the requirements of proximity-based ad-hoc social networks (ASNETs) and they do not behave properly in congested environments. To address this issue, we propose a user popularity-based packet scheduling scheme for congestion control in ASNETs called Pop-aware. The proposed algorithm exploits social popularity of sender nodes to prioritize all incoming flows. Pop-aware also provides fairness of service received by each flow. We evaluate the performance of Pop-aware through a series of simulations. In comparison with some existing scheduling algorithms, Pop-aware performs better in terms of control overhead, total overhead, average throughput, packet loss rate, packet delivery rate and average delay. Shuidouchi (Natto) is a fermented soy product showing in vivo gastric injury preventive effects. The treatment effects of Shuidouchi fermented in different vessels on HCl/ethanol-induced gastric mucosal injury mice through their antioxidant effect was determined. Shuidouchi contained isoflavones (daidzein and genistein), and GVFS (glass vessel fermented Shuidouchi) had the highest isoflavone levels among Shuidouchi samples fermented in different vessels. After treatment with GVFS, the gastric mucosal injury was reduced as compared to the control mice. The gastric secretion volume (0.47 mL) and pH of gastric juice (3.1) of GVFS treated gastric mucosal injury mice were close to those of ranitidine-treated mice and normal mice. Shuidouchi could decrease serum motilin (MTL), gastrin (Gas) level and increase somatostatin (SS), vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) level, and GVFS showed the strongest effects. GVFS showed lower IL-6, IL-12, TNF-α and IFN-γ cytokine levels than other vessel fermented Shuidouchi samples, and these levels were higher than those of ranitidine-treated mice and normal mice. GVFS also had higher superoxide dismutase (SOD), nitric oxide (NO) and malonaldehyde (MDA) contents in gastric tissues than other Shuidouchi samples. Shuidouchi could raise IκB-α, EGF, EGFR, nNOS, eNOS, Mn-SOD, Gu/Zn-SOD, CAT mRNA expressions and reduce NF-κB, COX-2, iNOS expressions as compared to the control mice. We recently showed that inter-keratin disulfide bonding plays an important role in the assembly, organization, and dynamics of keratin intermediate filaments in skin keratinocytes. In particular, cysteine 367 located in the central -helical rod domain of keratin 14 is necessary for the formation of a stable perinuclear network of keratin filaments (with type II partner keratin 5) in skin keratinocytes analyzed by static and live cell imaging. Here, we show that two additional cysteine residues located in the non-helical head domain of K14, Cys-4 and Cys-40, also participate in inter-keratin disulfide bonding and tandemly play a key role complementary to that of Cys-367 in the assembly, organization, and dynamics of keratin filaments in skin keratinocytes in primary culture. Analysis of K14 variants with single or multiple substitutions of cysteine residues points to a spatial and temporal hierarchy in how Cys-4/Cys-40 and Cys-367 regulate keratin assembly in vitro and filament dynamics in live keratinocytes in culture. Distributed publish/subscribe systems are poised with challenges of performance degradation and poor scalability. This is typically caused by an uneven load distribution of real-world applications and the susceptibility of link failure in networks. Partitioning and replication techniques have been implemented by exploring community-based load balancing to cope with such issues. The novel approach herein exploits offloading at the inter-community level as well as filter replication at the intra-community level. This results in the dynamic distribution and forwarding of publication and subscription services among brokers during run time. The proposed method, Co-Lab (COmmunity-based LoAd Balancing), seeks to improve the network performance by clustering brokers in a community by taking into consideration interest similarity and filter replication. It attempts to effectively achieve a more consistent and uniform load distribution among brokers and to circumvent the occurrence of highly overloaded brokers. We recently reported that a trans-dimer, homotypic disulfide bond involving Cys367 in keratin 14 (K14) occurs in an atomic-resolution structure of the interacting K5/K14 2B domains and in keratinocyte cell lines. Here we show that a sizable fraction of the K14 and K5 protein pools participates in interkeratin disulfide bonding in primary cultures of mouse skin keratinocytes. By comparing the properties of wild-type K14 with a completely cysteine-free variant thereof, we found that K14-dependent disulfide bonding limited filament elongation during polymerization in vitro but was necessary for the genesis of a perinuclear-concentrated network of keratin filaments, normal keratin cycling, and the sessile behavior of the nucleus and whole cell in keratinocytes studied by live imaging. Many of these phenotypes were rescued when analyzing a K14 variant harboring a single Cys residue at position 367. These findings establish disulfide bonding as a novel and important mechanism regulating the assembly, intracellular organization, and dynamics of K14-containing intermediate filaments in skin keratinocytes. Socially aware networking (SAN) provides a promising paradigm for routing and forwarding data packets by exploiting social properties of involved entities, for example, in vehicular social networks (VSNs). The mobility of individuals often features some regularity in location and time, particularly in vehicular environments. However, individuals' learning capability and awareness to the dynamic environments have not been well explored in the literature. Inspired by the artificial bee colony, we present BEEINFO, which is a set of interest-based forwarding schemes for SAN, which consists of BEEINFO-D, BEEINFO-S, and BEEINFO-D&S. BEEINFO adopts the food foraging behavior of bees to detect the environment information and to optimize the forwarding procedure. BEEINFO takes advantage of individuals' perceiving and learning capability to gather information of density and social ties. BEEINFO-D, BEEINFO-S, and BEEINFO-D&S are distinct from each other according to different utilization of density and social ties. This enhances the adaptability to dynamic environments. Additionally, BEEINFO performs message scheduling and buffer management to improve the forwarding performance. Extensive simulations have been conducted to compare BEEINFO with two representative protocols, i.e., PRoPHET and Epidemic. Replication is an important mechanism in modern wireless networks and has attracted significant efforts to improve its performance with different metrics including read cost, consistency and relocation cost. Traditionally, different ideal approaches are widely used to facilitate data availability. However, the quality of wireless links would be affected by many factors like mobility and overhead. The accessibility and reliability of Ad-hoc Social Network (ASNET) services can be assured by replication approaches. It is used to increase data availability by replicating data items locally or nearby. In ASNETs, replication helps to avoid data losses in case of an unpredictable group mobility that causes community partition and also aids in reducing the number of hops when a data is transmitted from source to destination. A new data replication method called ComPAS (community-partition aware replica allocation method) is proposed in this paper. This method can significantly improve ASNETs performance by exploiting social relationship while replicating in the community to achieve better efficiency and consistency while keeping the replica relocation cost as low as possible. T cell functional exhaustion during chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection may contribute to the failed viral clearance; however, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain largely unknown. Here we demonstrate that jumonji domain-containing protein 6 (JMJD6) is a potential regulator of T cell proliferation during chronic HBV infection. The expression of JMJD6 was reduced in T lymphocytes in chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients, and this reduction in JMJD6 expression was associated with impaired T cell proliferation. Moreover, silencing JMJD6 expression in primary human T cells impaired T cell proliferation. We found that JMJD6 promotes T cell proliferation by suppressing the mRNA expression of CDKN3. Furthermore, we have identified platelet derived growth factor-BB (PDGF-BB) as a regulator of JMJD6 expression. PDGF-BB downregulates JMJD6 expression and inhibits the proliferation of human primary T cells. Importantly, the expression levels of JMJD6 and PDGF-BB in lymphocytes from CHB patients were correlated with the degree of liver damage and the outcome of chronic HBV infection treatment. Objectives: Large hepatocellular carcinoma (LHCC) is prone to short‐term recurrence and poor long‐term survival after hepatectomy, and there is still a lack of effective neoadjuvant treatments to improve recurrence‐free survival (RFS) and overall survival (OS). We retrospectively analyzed the efficacy of preoperative transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) in solitary LHCC (≥5 cm). Materials and Methods: A multicenter medical database was used to analyze preoperative TACE's effects on RFS, OS, and perioperative complications in patients with solitary LHCC who received surgical treatment from January 2005 to December 2015. The patients were divided into Group A (5.0–9.9 cm) and Group B (≥10 cm), with 10 cm as the critical value, and the effect of preoperative TACE on RFS, OS and perioperative complications was assessed in each subgroup. Results: In the overall population, patients with preoperative TACE had better RFS and OS than those without preoperative TACE. However, after stratifying the patients into the two HCC groups, preoperative TACE only improved the survival outcomes of patients with Group B (≥10 cm). Multivariate Cox‐regression analysis showed that lack of preoperative TACE was an independent risk factor for RFS and OS in the overall population and in Group B but not in Group A. Spiral waves anchored to obstacles in cardiac tissues may cause lethal arrhythmia. To unpin these anchored spirals, comparing to high-voltage side-effect traditional therapies, wave emission from heterogeneities (WEH) induced by the uniform electric field (UEF) has provided a low-voltage alternative. Here we provide a new approach using WEH induced by the circularly polarized electric field (CPEF), which has higher success rate and larger application scope than UEF, even with a lower voltage. And we also study the distribution of the membrane potential near an obstacle induced by CPEF to analyze its mechanism of unpinning. Background: The prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with extrahepatic metastasis is extremely poor. However, what is the main risk factor for survival remains unclear for these patients. We aimed to find out the relative frequency, incidence and locations of extrahepatic metastases and the risk factors of long-term survival of the patients. Methods: 132 HCC patients with extrahepatic metastasis diagnosed by 18F-FDG PET/CT and conventional workup were enrolled into this study. The incidence and locations of extrahepatic metastases were summarized, and the related risk factors of overall survival were analyzed. Results: The most frequent extrahepatic metastatic sites were lymph nodes in 72 (54.5%), bone in 33 (25.0%) and lung in 28 (21.2%) patients. On univariate analysis, prothrombin time, Child-Pugh grade, portal/hepatic vein invasion and lymph node metastasis were independent risk factors of overall survival. On multivariate analysis, lymph node metastasis was the only independent risk factor of overall survival. The cumulative survival rates at 1- and 3-years after diagnosis of extrahepatic metastasis of HCC were 34.4% and 9.3%, respectively. The median survival time was 7 months (range 1 ∼38 months). The median survival time for patients with or without lymph node metastasis were 5 months (range 1∼38 months) and 12 months (range 1∼30 months), respectively (P = 0.036). Conclusions: This study showed lymph nodes to be the most frequent site of extrahepatic metastases for primary HCC. Ceramide (CE)-based combination therapy (CE combination) as a novel therapeutic strategy has attracted great attention in the field of anti-cancer therapy. The principal purposes of this study were to investigate the synergistic effect of CE in combination with docetaxel (DTX) (CE + DTX) and to explore the synergy mechanisms of CE + DTX. The 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) and combination index (CI) assay showed that simultaneous administration of CE and DTX with a molar ratio of 0.5:1 could generate the optimal synergistic effect on murine malignant melanoma cell (B16, CI = 0.31) and human breast carcinoma cell (MCF-7, CI = 0.48). The apoptosis, cell cycle, and cytoskeleton destruction study demonstrated that CE could target and destruct the microfilament actin, subsequently activate Caspase-3 and induce apoptosis. Meanwhile, DTX could target and disrupt the microtubules cytoskeleton, leading to a high proportion of cancer cells in G2/M-phase arrest. Moreover, CE plus DTX could cause a synergistic destruction of cytoskeleton, which resulted in a significantly higher apoptosis and a significantly higher arrest in G2/M arrest comparing with either agent alone (p < 0.01). The in vivo antitumor study evaluated in B16 tumor-bearing mice also validated the synergistic effects. All these results suggested that CE could enhance the antitumor activity of DTX in a synergistic manner, which suggest promising application prospects of CE + DTX combination treatment. Many localization algorithms and systems have been developed by means of wireless sensor networks for both indoor and outdoor environments. To achieve higher localization accuracy, extra hardware equipments are utilized by most of the existing localization solutions, which increase the cost and considerably limit the location-based applications. The Internet of Things (IOT) integrates many technologies, such as Internet, Zigbee, Bluetooth, infrared, WiFi, GPRS, 3G, etc., which can enable different ways to obtain the location information of various objects. Location-based service is a primary service of the IOT, while localization accuracy is a key issue. In this paper, a higher accuracy localization scheme is proposed which can effectively satisfy diverse requirements for many indoor and outdoor location services. The proposed scheme composes of two phases: (1) the partition phase, in which the target region is split into small grids; (2) the localization refinement phase, in which a higher accuracy of localization can be obtained by applying an algorithm designed in the paper. A trial system is set up to verify correctness of the proposed scheme and furthermore to illustrate its feasibility and availability. Abstract: Networked control systems (NCSs) offer many advantages over conventional control; however, they also demonstrate challenging problems such as network-induced delay and packet losses. This paper proposes an approach of predictive compensation for simultaneous network-induced delays and packet losses. Different from the majority of existing NCS control methods, the proposed approach addresses co-design of both network and controller. It also alleviates the requirements of precise process models and full understanding of NCS network dynamics. For a series of possible sensor-to-actuator delays, the controller computes a series of corresponding redundant control values. Then, it sends out those control values in a single packet to the actuator. Once receiving the control packet, the actuator measures the actual sensor-to-actuator delay and computes the control signals from the control packet. When packet dropout occurs, the actuator utilizes past control packets to generate an appropriate control signal. The effectiveness of the approach is demonstrated through examples. Abstract: With traditional open-loop scheduling of network resources, the quality-of-control (QoC) of networked control systems (NCSs) may degrade significantly in the presence of limited bandwidth and variable workload. The goal of this work is to maximize the overall QoC of NCSs through dynamically allocating available network bandwidth. Based on codesign of control and scheduling, an integrated feedback scheduler is developed to enable flexible QoC management in dynamic environments. It encompasses a cascaded feedback scheduling module for sampling period adjustment and a direct feedback scheduling module for priority modification. The inherent characteristics of priority-driven control networks make it feasible to implement the proposed feedback scheduler in real-world systems. Extensive simulations show that the proposed approach leads to significant QoC improvement over the traditional open-loop scheduling scheme under both underloaded and overloaded network conditions. Unenhanced CT scans exhibit high specificity in detecting moderate-to-severe hepatic steatosis. Even though many CTs are scanned from health screening and various diagnostic contexts, their potential for hepatic steatosis detection has largely remained unexplored. The accuracy of previous methodologies has been limited by the inclusion of non-parenchymal liver regions. To overcome this limitation, we present a novel deep-learning (DL) based method tailored for the automatic selection of parenchymal portions in CT images. This innovative method automatically delineates circular regions for effectively detecting hepatic steatosis. We use 1,014 multinational CT images to develop a DL model for segmenting liver and selecting the parenchymal regions. The results demonstrate outstanding performance in both tasks. By excluding non-parenchymal portions, our DL-based method surpasses previous limitations, achieving radiologist-level accuracy in liver attenuation measurements and hepatic steatosis detection. To ensure the reproducibility, we have openly shared 1014 annotated CT images and the DL system codes. Our novel research contributes to the refinement the automated detection methodologies of hepatic steatosis on CT images, enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of healthcare screening processes. Many studies have developed snow process understanding by exploring the impact of snow model complexity on simulation performance. This paper revisits this topic using several recently developed land surface models, including the Simplified Simple Biosphere Model (SSiB); Noah; Variable Infiltration Capacity (VIC); Community Land Model, version 3 (CLM3); Snow Thermal Model (SNTHERM); and new field measurements from the Cold Land Processes Field Experiment (CLPX). Offline snow cover simulations using these five snow models with different physical complexity are performed for the Rabbit Ears Buffalo Pass (RB), Fraser Experimental Forest headquarters (FHQ), and Fraser Alpine (FA) sites between 20 September 2002 and 1 October 2003. These models simulate the snow accumulation and snowpack ablation with varying skill when forced with the same meteorological observations, initial conditions, and similar soil and vegetation parameters. All five models capture the basic features of snow cover dynamics but show remarkable discrepancy in depicting snow accumulation and ablation, which could result from uncertain model physics and/or biased forcing. The simulated snow depth in SSiB during the snow accumulation period is consistent with the more complicated CLM3 and SNTHERM; however, early runoff is noted, owing to neglected water retention within the snowpack. Noah is consistent with SSiB in simulating snow accumulation and ablation at RB and FA, but at FHQ, Noah underestimates snow depth and snow water equivalent (SWE) as a result of a higher net shortwave radiation at the surface, resulting from the use of a small predefined maximum snow albedo. VIC and SNTHERM are in good agreement with each other, and they realistically reproduce snow density and net radiation. CLM3 is consistent with VIC and SNTHERM during snow accumulation, but it shows early snow disappearance at FHQ and FA. It is also noted that VIC, CLM3, and SNTHERM are unable to capture the observed runoff timing, even though the water storage and refreezing effects are included in their physics. A set of sensitivity experiments suggest that Noah’s snow simulation is improved with a higher maximum albedo and that VIC exhibits little improvement with a larger fresh snow albedo. There are remarkable differences in the vegetation impact on snow simulation for each snow model. In the presence of forest cover, SSiB shows a substantial increase in snow depth and SWE, Noah and VIC show a slight change though VIC experiences a later onset of snowmelt, and CLM3 has a reduction in its snow depth. Finally, we observe that a refined precipitation dataset significantly improves snow simulation, emphasizing the importance of accurate meteorological forcing for land surface modeling. A methoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (MePEG)-conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) polymeric conjugate is synthesized with the use of dicyclohexycarbodiimide and 4-dimethylaminopyridine as the coupling agent and the catalyst, respectively. Self-assembled MePEG-CLA conjugate micelles are prepared by dialysis in water. Fluorescence spectroscopy indicates that the MePEG-CLA conjugate exhibits a typical core-shell micellar structure, and the estimated critical micelle concentration is 1.2 × 10−5 mol L−1. Dynamic light scattering and transmission electron microscopy demonstrate that the prepared MePEG-CLA micelles have spherical shape and an average diameter of approximately 100 nm. Paclitaxel is entrapped into MePEG-CLA lyophilized powder. The release of paclitaxel from the loaded micelles is investigated in vitro. Members of Thermococcales harbor a number of genes encoding putative aminotransferase class III enzymes. Here, we characterized the TK1211 protein from the hyperthermophilic archaeon Thermococcus kodakarensis. The TK1211 gene was expressed in T. kodakarensis under the control of the strong, constitutive promoter of the cell surface glycoprotein gene TK0895 (Pcsg). The purified protein did not display aminotransferase activity but exhibited racemase activity. An examination of most amino acids indicated that the enzyme was a racemase with relatively high activity toward Leu and Met. Kinetic analysis indicated that Leu was the most preferred substrate. A TK1211 gene disruption strain (ΔTK1211) was constructed and grown on minimal medium supplemented with l- or d-Leu or l- or d-Met. The wild-type T. kodakarensis is not able to synthesize Leu and displays Leu auxotrophy, providing a direct means to examine the Leu racemase activity of the TK1211 protein in vivo. When we replaced l-Leu with d-Leu in the medium, the host strain with an intact TK1211 gene displayed an extended lag phase but displayed cell yield similar to that observed in medium with l-Leu. In contrast, the ΔTK1211 strain displayed growth in medium with l-Leu but could not grow with d-Leu. The results indicate that TK1211 encodes a Leu racemase that is active in T. kodakarensis cells and that no other protein exhibits this activity, at least to an extent that can support growth. Background: Although restricting food intake during labor is recommended by guidelines, intrapartum starvation has not been popular in some regions. We conducted this comparative cross-sectional study to determine the prevalence of risk stomach in non-fasted laboring women compared with fasted non-laboring women using gastric ultrasound. Methods: Ultrasound examination of the antrum was performed in 50 term fasted non-laboring women before elective cesarean delivery and 50 laboring women allowed to eat and drink during active labor. Examinations consisted of the qualitative (antral grades, 0–3) and quantitative evaluation (antral cross-sectional area and calculated gastric volume) in the supine and right lateral decubitus (RLD) position. A risk stomach was defined as an antral grade ≥ 2 or grade 1 with gastric volume ≥ 1.5 ml· kg− 1. Results: No non-laboring women had grade ≥ 2, while 34 (68%) laboring women had grade ≥ 2. Nine (18%) non-laboring and 40 (80%) laboring women presented risk stomach (P < 0.001) (risk ratio: 4.4, 95% CI 2.4–8.2). Compared with non-laboring women, laboring women had larger antral area at "empty" stomach (grade 0) (437 mm2 vs.350 mm2 in supine, 571 mm2 vs.480 mm2 in RLD, P < 0.05) and cut-off values of antral area to discriminate a risk stomach (510 mm2 vs. 453 mm2 in supine, 670 mm2 vs. 605 mm2 in RLD). Conclusions: This study confirms a higher prevalence of risk stomach presents in laboring women under a liberal eating policy, gastric ultrasound is therefore useful for this risk population if general anesthesia is required unexpectedly. Background: Climate change has led to severe cold events, adversely impacting global crop production. Eggplant (Solanum melongena L.), a significant economic crop, is highly susceptible to cold damage, affecting both yield and quality. Unraveling the molecular mechanisms governing cold resistance, including the identification of key genes and comprehensive transcriptional regulatory pathways, is crucial for developing new varieties with enhanced tolerance. Results: In this study, we conducted a comparative analysis of leaf physiological indices and transcriptome sequencing results. The orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis (OPLS-DA) highlighted peroxidase (POD) activity and soluble protein as crucial physiological indicators for both varieties. RNA-seq data analysis revealed that a total of 7024 and 6209 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified from variety "A" and variety "B", respectively. Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment of DEGs demonstrated that the significant roles of starch and sucrose metabolism, glutathione metabolism, terpenoid synthesis, and energy metabolism (sucrose and starch metabolism) were the key pathways in eggplant. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) shown that the enrichment of numerous cold-responsive genes, pathways, and soluble proteins in the MEgrep60 modules. Core hub genes identified in the co-expression network included POD, membrane transporter-related gene MDR1, abscisic acid-related genes, growth factor enrichment gene DELLA, core components of the biological clock PRR7, and five transcription factors. Among these, the core transcription factor MYB demonstrated co-expression with signal transduction, plant hormone, biosynthesis, and metabolism-related genes, suggesting a pivotal role in the cold response network. Conclusion: This study integrates physiological indicators and transcriptomics to unveil the molecular mechanisms responsible for the differences in cold tolerance between the eggplant cold-tolerant variety "A" and the cold-sensitive variety "B". These mechanisms include modulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), elevation in osmotic carbohydrate and free proline content, and the expression of terpenoid synthesis genes. This comprehensive understanding contributes valuable insights into the molecular underpinnings of cold stress tolerance, ultimately aiding in the improvement of crop cold tolerance. Calmodulin-binding transcription activator (CAMTA) is an important calmodulin-binding protein with a conserved structure in eukaryotes which is widely involved in plant stress response, growth and development, hormone signal transduction, and other biological processes. Although CAMTA genes have been identified and characterized in many plant species, a systematic and comprehensive analysis of CAMTA genes in the Solanaceae genome is performed for the first time in this study. A total of 28 CAMTA genes were identified using bioinformatics tools, and the biochemical/physicochemical properties of these proteins were investigated. CAMTA genes were categorized into three major groups according to phylogenetic analysis. Tissue-expression profiles indicated divergent spatiotemporal expression patterns of SmCAMTAs. Furthermore, transcriptome analysis of SmCAMTA genes showed that exposure to cold induced differential expression of many eggplant CAMTA genes. Yeast two-hybrid and bimolecular fluorescent complementary assays suggested an interaction between SmCAMTA2 and SmERF1, promoting the transcription of the cold key factor SmCBF2, which may be an important mechanism for plant cold resistance. In summary, our results provide essential information for further functional research on Solanaceae family genes, and possibly other plant families, in the determination of the development of plants. Micellar solubilization is considered as a key factor affecting the recovery efficiency in chemically enhanced oil recovery (cEOR). However, it is poorly understood how polymers in surfactant-polymer (SP) flooding influences the micellar solubilization. Guar gum (GG) and hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC) are two important and widely used polysaccharide polymers. In this work, the effect of GG and HEC on the solubilization of a crude oil model compound methyl benzoate (MB) in anionic sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) micelles and the underlying mechanism were explored at the molecular scale by NMR spectroscopy. GG and HEC slightly increased the MB solubility in SDS micelles but did not change the solubilization capacity. No correlation peak was observed to demonstrate the attractive interaction between polymer and SDS. After examination, there is weak electrostatic repulsion between HEC/GG and SDS, which made the polymer independent from SDS micelles and was unable to participate in the formation of micelles to alter micellar structure and solubilization behavior. Although the solubility of MB was slightly increased, this increase should originate from weak molecular interactions between polymers, surfactants and hydrophobic molecules, including hydrogen bonding, van der Waals forces and hydrophobic interactions, etc. In summary, without strong electrostatic attraction between polymer and surfactant, the solubilization of polymers and the solubilization of micelles proceed independently, resulting in that the solubilization capacity of SDS micelles was not improved. The increase in biological data and the formation of various biomolecule interaction databases enable us to obtain diverse biological networks. These biological networks provide a wealth of raw materials for further understanding of biological systems, the discovery of complex diseases and the search for therapeutic drugs. However, the increase in data also increases the difficulty of biological networks analysis. Therefore, algorithms that can handle large, heterogeneous and complex data are needed to better analyze the data of these network structures and mine their useful information. Deep learning is a branch of machine learning that extracts more abstract features from a larger set of training data. Through the establishment of an artificial neural network with a network hierarchy structure, deep learning can extract and screen the input information layer by layer and has representation learning ability. The improved deep learning algorithm can be used to process complex and heterogeneous graph data structures and is increasingly being applied to the mining of network data information. In this paper, we first introduce the used network data deep learning models. After words, we summarize the application of deep learning on biological networks.
