Many societies around the world are rapidly aging and this has implications for social and economic development. We collect data on NEEQ-listed enterprises from 2010 to 2021 in China and empirically test the effect of population aging on the digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The findings show that population aging has a significant positive impact on SME digital transformation, and private enterprises and enterprises in eastern regions of China tend to benefit more than other regions. The mechanism studies find that population aging positively impacts SME digital transformation by increasing labor costs, facilitating human capital accumulation, and raising savings rates. Furthermore, the threshold effect analyses find that the marginal promotion effect of population aging will weaken with greater aging and will strengthen with a higher level of marketization. This paper discusses a type of mixed-delay quaternion-valued neural networks (QVNNs) under impulsive and stochastic disturbances. The considered QVNNs model are treated as a whole, rather than as complex-valued neural networks (NNs) or four real-valued NNs. Using the vector Lyapunov function method, some criteria are provided for securing the mean-square exponential stability of the mixed-delay QVNNs under impulsive and stochastic disturbances. Furthermore, a type of chaotic QVNNs under stochastic and impulsive disturbances is considered using a previously established stability analysis method. After the completion of designing the linear feedback control law, some sufficient conditions are obtained using the vector Lyapunov function method for determining the mean-square exponential synchronization of drive–response systems. Finally, two examples are provided to demonstrate the correctness and feasibility of the main findings and one example is provided to validate the use of QVNNs for image associative memory. Background: Ubiquitination plays an important role in proliferating and invasive characteristic of glioblastoma (GBM), similar to many other cancers. Tripartite motif 25 (TRIM25) is a member of the TRIM family of proteins, which are involved in tumorigenesis through substrate ubiquitination. Methods: Difference in TRIM25 expression levels between nonneoplastic brain tissue samples and primary glioma samples was demonstrated using publicly available glioblastoma database, immunohistochemistry, and western blotting. TRIM25 knockdown GBM cell lines (LN229 and U251) and patient derived GBM stem-like cells (GSCs) GBM#021 were used to investigate the function of TRIM25 in vivo and in vitro. Co-immunoprecipitation (Co-IP) and mass spectrometry analysis were performed to identify NONO as a protein that interacts with TRIM25. The molecular mechanisms underlying the promotion of GBM development by TRIM25 through NONO were investigated by RNA-seq and validated by qRT-PCR and western blotting. Results: We observed upregulation of TRIM25 in GBM, correlating with enhanced glioblastoma cell growth and invasion, both in vitro and in vivo. Subsequently, we screened a panel of proteins interacting with TRIM25; mass spectrometry and co-immunoprecipitation revealed that NONO was a potential substrate of TRIM25. TRIM25 knockdown reduced the K63-linked ubiquitination of NONO, thereby suppressing the splicing function of NONO. Dysfunctional NONO resulted in the retention of the second intron in the pre-mRNA of PRMT1, inhibiting the activation of the PRMT1/c-MYC pathway. Conclusions: Our study demonstrates that TRIM25 promotes glioblastoma cell growth and invasion by regulating the PRMT1/c-MYC pathway through mediation of the splicing factor NONO. Targeting the E3 ligase activity of TRIM25 or the complex interactions between TRIM25 and NONO may prove beneficial in the treatment of GBM. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As antimicrobial resistance continues to escalate, the exploration of alternative approaches to safeguard food safety becomes more crucial than ever. Phage endolysins are enzymes derived from phages that possess the ability to break down bacterial cell walls. They have emerged as promising antibacterial agents suitable for integration into food processing systems. Their application as food preservatives can effectively regulate pathogens, thus contributing to an overall improvement in food safety. This review summarizes the latest techniques considering endolysins' potential for food safety. These techniques include native and engineered endolysins for controlling bacterial contamination at different points within the food production chain. However, we find that characterizing endolysins through in vitro methods proves to be time consuming and resource intensive. Alternatively, the emergence of advanced high-throughput sequencing technology necessitates the creation of a robust computational framework to efficiently characterize recently identified endolysins, paving the way for future research. Machine learning encompasses potent tools capable of analyzing intricate datasets and pattern recognition. This study briefly reviewed the use of these industry 4.0 technologies for advancing the research in food industry. We aimed to provide current status of endolysins in food industry and new insights by implementing these industry 4.0 strategies revolutionizes endolysin development. Background: Emotional mimicry, a phenomenon frequently observed in our everyday interactions, is the act of replicating another individual's facial expression. The Emotion Mimicry in Context View and the Correction Hypothesis underscore the critical role of context and intention within emotional mimicry. Methods: In two distinct studies, participants were presented with facial expressions of models (happiness and anger) within various contexts (affiliative, distancing, and neutral). Concurrently, we recorded electromyography (EMG) to index emotional mimicry, while participants explicitly rated the models' intentions. Results: We observed context swiftly influences emotional mimicry within 500 ms, notably when the intentions of contexts are opposing to the intentions of facial expressions, leading to weakened muscle responses and diminished perceived intention. Furthermore, a notable correlation was discovered in the mimicry of angry faces; the more distancing the context, the stronger the corrugator supercilii (CS) muscle activity after context processing. Conclusions: First, emotional mimicry should not be simply viewed as an output corresponding to the expresser's facial expressions but the dynamic process involving the active participation of the observer. The immunity‐related GTPases (IRGs) belong to the interferon‐inducible GTPase protein family, which mediates cell autonomous and innate immunity response to intracellular pathogens. Yet, the cellular and physiological function of IRGC, a member of the IRG subfamily, has not been elucidated. Here, we show that testis‐specific IRGC is specifically and highly expressed in mature spermatozoa and is required for sperm motility. IRGC induction results in the clustering of lipid droplets and initiation of their physical contact with mitochondria. When examining clinical semen samples, IRGC expression is significantly lower in asthenozoospermia patients relative to healthy individuals. These unique effects of IRGC identify it as an important player in sperm motility, and show the potential of lipid metabolism‐targeting therapeutic intervention aimed at controlling asthenozoospermia. Pancreatic cancer is the third leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States. Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is the major form of pancreatic cancer with the worst outcomes. Early detection is key to improving the overall survival rate of PDAC patients. Recent studies have demonstrated that microRNA (miRNA) signatures in plasma small extracellular vesicles (EVs) are potential biomarkers for the early detection of PDAC. However, published results are inconsistent due to the heterogeneity of plasma small EVs and the methods used for small EV isolation. We have recently refined the process of plasma small EV isolation using double filtration and ultracentrifugation. In the present study, we applied this protocol and analyzed plasma small EV miRNA signatures by small RNA sequencing and quantitative RT-PCR in a pilot cohort, consisting of patients with early-stage PDAC, and age- and gender-matched healthy subjects (n = 20). We found, via small RNA sequencing, that there are several miRNAs enriched in plasma small EVs of PDAC patients, and the levels of miR-18a and miR-106a were confirmed by quantitative RT-PCR to be significantly elevated in patients with early-stage PDAC compared with age- and gender-matched healthy subjects. Furthermore, using an immunoaffinity-based plasma small EV isolation approach, we confirmed that the levels of miR-18a and miR-106a in plasma small EVs were significantly higher in PDAC patients versus the healthy subjects. Honeycomb structure composites are taking an increasing proportion in aircraft manufacturing because of their high strength-to-weight ratio, good fatigue resistance, and low manufacturing cost. However, the hollow structure is very prone to liquid ingress. Here, we report a fast and automatic classification approach for water, alcohol, and oil filled in glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) honeycomb structures through terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS). We propose an improved one-dimensional convolutional neural network (1D-CNN) model, and compared it with long short-term memory (LSTM) and ordinary 1D-CNN models, which are classification networks based on one dimension sequenced signals. The automated liquid classification results show that the LSTM model has the best performance for the time-domain signals, while the improved 1D-CNN model performed best for the frequency-domain signals. How to use bioinformatics methods to quickly and accurately locate the effective targets of traditional Chinese medicine monomer (TCM) is still an urgent problem needing to be solved. Here, we used high-throughput sequencing to identify the genes that were up-regulated after cells were treated with TCM monomers and used bioinformatics methods to analyze which transcription factors activated these genes. Then, the binding proteins of these transcription factors were analyzed and cross-analyzed with the docking proteins predicted by small molecule reverse docking software to quickly and accurately determine the monomer's targets. Followeding this method, we predicted that the TCM monomer Daphnoretin (DT) directly binds to JAK2 with a binding energy of −5.43 kcal/mol, and activates the JAK2/STAT3 signaling transduction pathway. Subsequent Western blotting and in vitro binding and kinase experiments further validated our bioinformatics predictions. Our method provides a new approach for quickly and accurately locating the effective targets of TCM monomers, and we also have discovered for the first time that TCM monomer DT is an agonist of JAK2. Through explosion simulation tests with varying burial depths in clay media, the changing patterns between the size of visible craters, ground shock effective craters and coupled ground shock energy were revealed. A numerical calculation model was established to investigate the relationship between the ground shock effective crater size and energy coupling of the ground shock in detail. By comparing and analyzing the theoretical, experimental, and numerical simulation results, the relationship between the explosive coupling coefficient of ground shock energy and the scaled depth of burial (SDOB) of clay was presented. The research results indicated that there was a linear relationship between the underground explosion compression crater volume (or fragmentation zone volume) and the ground shock energy. The test and numerical simulation analysis results validated the correctness of the coupling coefficient of ground shock conversion calculation method. The obtained clay coupling coefficient of equivalent yield function expression can accurately and rapidly predict the ground shock effect of underground explosions, providing a calculation basis for the anti-explosion design of underground engineering under clay geological conditions. Simple Summary: Plumage color is one of the economic characteristics of poultry. The most common plumage colors in adult geese are white and grey, so research on goose plumage color is relatively scarce compared with the molecular basis of research on chicken plumage color inheritance. Nevertheless, whether the formation of a black phenotype on the Holdobaggy geese newborn dorsal plumage color is associated with gender needs further profound study. Our study researched the gender identification of the newborn Holdobaggy geese based on plumage color and the expression levels of relative genes for melanin, which offers a theoretical basis for gender identification. In production practice, we have found that the gray and black down on the backs of the Holdobaggy goslings is usually darker in females than in males. Melanin is the key pigment affecting the color of poultry plumage. Therefore, to determine whether the darkness of the dorsal plumage of the Holdobaggy goslings is related to sex, we study the melanin in the feather follicles of the dorsal skin during the embryonic period. The feather follicle structure and melanin distribution on the dorsal surface of the goose embryo is observed by HE staining and melanin-specific staining. The melanin content in the feather follicles of the dorsal skin of goslings is determined by ELISA. The results showed that the melanin content is higher in female geese than in males (p < 0.05). In addition, we also analyze the mRNA and protein expression levels of melanin-related genes (TYRP1 and ASIP) by quantitative real-time PCR and Western blotting analysis. The results show that the mRNA expression level of TYRP1 is significantly higher in the females' dorsal skin feather follicles (p < 0.05), while the mRNA expression level of ASIP is significantly higher in the dorsal skin feather follicles of male geese (p < 0.05). In conclusion, the difference between males and females in the color of the black feathers on the dorsal track of the Holdobaggy goslings is verified, and it is feasible to identify the sex by the initial plumage color. DC microgrids have drawn more and more attention in industrial applications. However, achieving efficient and reliable interruption of faults is still a challenging task in dc microgrids. In this article, a reliable bidirectional solid-state circuit breaker (RB-SSCB) is proposed for dc microgrid protection. The proposed RB-SSCB can break and rebreak bidirectional faults with no fault current surges to the source and load, and its breaking capability is stable and controllable. Consequently, when compared with the existing SSCBs, the RB-SSCB can provide more reliable protection for dc microgrids. Increased power efficiency, reduced costs, and simplified structure can also be obtained in the proposed topology. Based on circuit analysis and modeling, design guidelines for selecting the components in the RB-SSCB are given. Background OsWRKY62 and OsWRKY76, two close members of WRKY transcription factors, function together as transcriptional repressors. OsWRKY62 is predominantly localized in the cytosol. What are the regulatory factors for OsWRKY62 nuclear translocation? Results In this study, we characterized the interaction of OsWRKY62 and OsWRKY76 with rice importin, OsIMα1a and OsIMα1b, for nuclear translocation. Chimeric OsWRKY62.1-GFP, which is predominantly localized in the cytoplasm, was translocated to the nucleus of Nicotiana benthamiana leaf cells in the presence of OsIMα1a or OsIMαΔIBB1a lacking the auto-inhibitory importin β-binding domain. OsIMαΔIBB1a interacted with the WRKY domain of OsWRKY62.1, which has specific bipartite positively charged concatenated amino acids functioning as a nuclear localization signal (NLS). Similarly, we found that OsIMαΔIBB1a interacted with the AvrPib effector of rice blast fungus Magnaporthe oryzae, which contains a scattered distribution of positively charged amino acids. Furthermore, we identified a nuclear export signal (NES) in OsWRKY62.1 that inhibited nuclear transportation. Overexpression of OsIMα1a or OsIMα1b enhanced resistance to M. oryzae, whereas knockout mutants decreased resistance to the pathogen. However, overexpressing both OsIMα1a and OsWRKY62.1 were slightly more susceptible to M. oryzae than OsWRKY62.1 alone. Ectopic overexpression of OsWRKY62.1-NES fused gene compromised the enhanced susceptibility of OsWRKY62.1 to M. oryzae. Conclusion These results revealed the existence of NLS and NES in OsWRKY62. OsWRKY62, OsWRKY76, and AvrPib effector translocate to nucleus in association with importin α1s through new types of nuclear localization signals for negatively regulating defense responses. microRNAs (miRNA) in extracellular vesicles (EVs) have been investigated as potential biomarkers for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). However, a mixed population of EVs is often obtained using conventional exosome isolation methods for biomarker development. EVs are derived from different cellular processes and present in various sizes, therefore miRNA expression among them is undoubtedly different. We developed a simple protocol utilizing sequential filtration and ultracentrifugation to separate PDAC EVs into three groups, one with an average diameter of more than 220 nm, named operational 3 (OP3); one with average diameters between 100–220 nm, named operational 2 (OP2); and another with average diameters around 100 nm, named operational 1 (OP1)). EVs were isolated from conditioned cell culture media and plasma of human PDAC xenograft mice and early stage PDAC patients, and verified by nanoparticle tracking, western blot, and electronic microscopy. We demonstrate that exosome specific markers are only enriched in the OP1 group. qRT-PCR analysis of miRNA expression in EVs from PDAC cells revealed that expression of miR-196a and miR-1246, two previously identified miRNAs highly enriched in PDAC cell-derived exosomes, is significantly elevated in the OP1 group relative to the other EV groups. This was confirmed using plasma EVs from PDAC xenograft mice and patients with localized PDAC. Lianpu drink (LPD) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula for the treatment of chronic gastritis (CG), and its clinical effects have been effectively verified. However, due to the complexity of the chemical composition of TCM formulas, its mechanism of action has not yet been clearly explained. Many studies have shown that the principal drugs in the TCM formula play a major therapeutic role. Therefore, in this study, the principal drugs Coptidis Rhizoma (CR) and Magnolia officinalis Rehd. et Wils. (MOR) in LPD were used as the main research objects to predict the mechanism of LPD on CG. We contrasted a "compounds-targets-diseases" network and screened the putative targets of CR and MOR in LPD related to CG, respectively. Furthermore, common targets of CR and MOR related to CG were selected as candidate targets. In this study, the specific target proteins of CR, MOR, and CG were combined by protein-protein interaction (PPI) to construct a pharmacological network of "components-targets-diseases." In addition, we investigated the effects of CR and MOR on the TNF signaling pathway, which mediated the remission of CG. This study preliminarily revealed that CR and MOR play a key role in the treatment of CG. In this study, we investigate reaction-diffusion complex-valued neural networks with mixed delays. The mixed delays include both time-varying and infinite distributed delays. Criteria are derived to ensure the existence, uniqueness, and exponential stability of the equilibrium state of the addressed system on the basis of the M-matrix properties and homeomorphism mapping theories as well as the vector Lyapunov function method. The results demonstrate the positive effect of reaction-diffusion on the stability, which further improves the existing conditions. Background: Exposure to heavy metals (cadmium, mercury, and lead) has been linked with adverse health outcomes, especially their nephrotoxic effects at high levels of exposure. We conducted a replication study to examine the association of low-level heavy metal exposure and chronic kidney disease (CKD) using a larger NHANES data set compared to previous studies. Methods: The large cross-sectional study comprised 5,175 CKD cases out of 55677 participants aged 20–85 years from the 1999–2020 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey [NHANES]. Logistic regression analysis was applied to estimate the associations between CKD and heavy metals [Cd, Pb, Hg] measured as categorical variables after adjusting with age, race, gender, socioeconomic status, hypertension, diabetes mellitus and blood cotinine level as smoking status. Results: Compared to the lowest quartile of blood Cd, exposures to the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quartiles of blood Cd were statistically significantly associated with higher odds of CKD after adjustment for blood Pb and Hg, with OR = 1.79, [95% CI; 1.55–2.07, p<0.0001], OR = 2.17, [95% CI; 1.88–2.51, p<0.0001] and OR = 1.52, [95% CI; 1.30–1.76, p<0.0001] respectively. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th quartiles of blood Cd remained statistically significantly associated with higher odds of CKD after adjustment for blood cotinine level, with OR = 2.06, [95% CI; 1.80–2.36, p<0.0001], OR = 3.18, [95% CI; 2.79–3.63, p<0.0001] and OR = 5.54, [95% CI; 4.82–6.37, p<0.0001] respectively. Exposure to blood Pb was statistically significantly associated with higher odds of CKD in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th quartile groups, after adjustment for all co-variates (ag, gender, race, socio-economic status, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, blood cadmium, mercury, and cotinine levels) in all the four models. Blood Hg level was statistically significantly associated with lower odds of CKD in the 2nd quartile group in model 2, 3rd quartile group in model 1, 2 and 3, and the 4th quartile group in all the four models. Conclusions: Our findings showed that low blood levels of Cd and Pb were associated with higher odds of CKD while low blood levels of Hg were associated with lower odds of CKD in the US adult population. Lung injury and pulmonary fibrosis contribute to morbidity and mortality, and, in particular, are characterized as leading cause on confirmed COVID-19 death. To date, efficient therapeutic approach for such lung diseases is lacking. N-Acetylglucosamine (NAG), an acetylated derivative of glucosamine, has been proposed as a potential protector of lung function in several types of lung diseases. The mechanism by which NAG protects against lung injury, however, remains unclear. Here, we show that NAG treatment improves pulmonary function in bleomycin (BLM)-induced lung injury model measured by flexiVent system. At early phase of lung injury, NAG treatment results in silenced immune response by targeting ARG1+ macrophages activation, and, consequently, blocks KRT8+ transitional stem cell in the alveolar region to stimulate PDGF Rβ+ fibroblasts hyperproliferation, thereby attenuating the pulmonary fibrosis. This combinational depression of immune response and extracellular matrix deposition within the lung mitigates lung injury and pulmonary fibrosis induced by BLM. Our findings provide novel insight into the protective role of NAG in lung injury. A novel inorganic polymer flocculant, biopolymeric ferric sulfate (BPFS), was prepared by immobilization technology of microorganisms and by oxidation of ferrous sulfate using domestic Thiobacillus ferrooxidans (T. f) under acidic condition. T. f was isolated on the agarose single-plate medium, which exhibited an unusual trait on the utilization of low concentration of the nitrogen source and phosphorus as the nutrient substance. Under the optimal conditions, the microorganism could grow and reproduce normally and maintain the strong catalytic oxidation activity to Fe2+. The immobilization of T. f on the polyurethane as the support matrix was investigated. Cycling batch operation was applied to the preparation of 40 kg/m3, 60 kg/m3, and 80 kg/m3 BPFS when the optimal conditions are pH value of 1.8, circulation flow rate of 0.28–0.30 L/h, and reaction temperature of 28 ± 1°C. When the prepared BPFS and SPFS (solid biopolymeric ferric sulfate) were used to dispose Songhua River water, the removal rate of turbidity and CODMn of BPFS was slightly better than that of SPFS. The removal efficiencies of turbidity and CODMn by BPFS could reach 93.9% and 79.7%, respectively. The result suggests that the BPFS has good flocculating activity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To alleviate the adverse effects of pesticide residues on the environment, development of a more safe, economical, and reliable usage approach of pesticides is critically urgent. In the present study, a novel pesticide carrier LA-NSM (lauric acid-modified Nitraria seed meal) with controlled release property was prepared through grafting esterification of lauric acid onto Nitraria seed meal substrates. The structure of the obtained samples was characterized by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and contact angle measurements. The results indicated that LA-NSM products had a well-defined hydrophobic surface and irregular holes for efficient loading of pesticide molecules. Deltamethrin (DEL), a representative insoluble pyrethroid insecticide in water, was deliberately selected as the index pesticide to evaluate the loading and releasing efficiency of LA-NSM. The loading capacity of LA-NSM for DEL can reach about 1068 mg/g. pH, humidity of soil, and temperature had a significant influence on controlled release performance of LA-NSM@DEL. Moreover, the releasing kinetics of LA-NSM@DEL composites could be fitted well with the Higuchi model. Overall, the highly hydrophobic property, excellent loading, and controlled release ability of LA-NSM made it a promising candidate in agricultural applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The adsorptive removal of antibiotics from aqueous solutions is recognized as the most suitable approach due to its easy operation, low cost, nontoxic properties, and high efficiency. However, the conventional regeneration of saturated adsorbents is an expensive and time-consuming process in practical wastewater treatment. Herein, a scalable adsorbent of magnetic Fe3O4@chitosan carbon microbeads (MCM) was successfully prepared by embedding Fe3O4 nanoparticles into chitosan hydrogel via an alkali gelation-thermal cracking process. The application of MCM composites for the adsorptive removal of doxycycline (DC) was evaluated using a fixed-bed column. The results showed that pH, initial concentration, flow rate, and bed depth are found to be important factors to control the adsorption capacity of DC. The Thomas and Yoon-Nelson models showed a good agreement with the experimental data and could be applied for the prediction of the fixed-bed column properties and breakthrough curves. More importantly, the saturated fixed bed can be easily recycled by H2O2 which shows excellent reusability for the removal of doxycycline. Expression of mineral dust-induced gene (mdig) in lung cancer NCI-H1650 cells was detected to investigate the effects of mdig on proliferation and apoptosis of NCI-H1650 cells. NCI-H1650 lung cancer cells were cultured in vitro. The expression of mdig in NCI-H1650 cells was lowered using ribonucleic acid interference (RNAi) technique. Reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and western blot analysis were used to detect the effects of mdig small interfering RNA (siRNA) on messenger RNA (mRNA) and the protein expression of mdig in lung cancer NCI-H1650 cells, respectively. The effect of mdig on the proliferation of NCI-H1650 cells was observed through 3-(4,5)-dimethylthiazol (-z-y1)-3,5-di-phenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay, and flow cytometry was used to detect the impact of mdig on cell cycle and apoptosis of NCI-H1650 cells. The influence of mdig on caspase-3 and poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP1) proteins in NCI-H1650 cells were investigated via western blot analysis. The results of RT-qPCR and western blot analysis showed that mdig siRNA obviously inhibited the expression of mRNA and protein of mdig in NCI-H1650 cells. Results of the MTT assay showed mdig siRNA could significantly reduce the proliferation ability of NCI-H1650 cells. In addition cell cycle detection showed that mdig siRNA caused NCI-H1650 cell arrest at G1 phase. Apoptosis detection results indicated that mdig siRNA promoted apoptosis of NCI-H1650 cells. Western-blot analysis revealed that mdig siRNA upregulated the expression of cleaved caspase-3 and cleaved PARP1 proteins in NCI-H1650 cells. Mdig is highly expressed in lung cancer NCI-H1650 cells while mdig siRNA can inhibit proliferation of NCI-H1650 cells and accelerate apoptosis. Abstract Polymer blends with self-healing capability when damaged have received increasing interests and have been developing rapidly because of their many potential applications. Here, the polymer blend comprising of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and polycaprolactone (PCL) as shape memory matrix was initially prepared by melting blending, and then the multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were incorporated to endow the blend with excellent self-healing property in the presence of near infrared (NIR) irradiation (808 nm, 0.14 W). Compared with the traditional heat-induced self-healing shape memory composites, NIR irradiation could not only reduce the healing time, but also can selectively repair the exposed damaged regions without distinct interference to the performance of surrounding parts. As revealed, these composites presented superior shape memory and self-healing behavior in the presence of NIR irradiation. Specifically, the blend containing 50% TPU, 50% PCL and 3 MWCNTs (U1C1-3) possesses shape memory properties as manifested by a ca. 96.8% shape fixing ratio (R f) and ca. 63.9% shape recovery ratio (R r). The surface crack and scratches can be completely recovered in 3 min NIR irradiation. And moreover, this NIR stimulated self-healing could performed repeatedly for at least 4 times, with healing efficiency of ca. 96%. All these observations could be attributed to the hybrid crystalline and amorphous regions of PCL and TPU, as well as the well distribution of MWCNTs in the polymeric matrix. The superior shape memory and self-healing properties, along with the easy and scalable process of fabrication, make these blends ideal candidates for an ensemble of applications, including biomedical, packing and microelectronics. Various known and unknown viral diseases can threaten crustacean aquaculture. To develop prophylactic and therapeutic strategies against viruses, crustacean cell lines are urgently needed for immunology and virology studies. However, there are currently no permanent crustacean cell lines available. In this study, we developed a new method for preparing crayfish plasma (CP) and found that CP enhanced the proliferative capacity of haematopoietic tissue (hpt) cells from Cherax quadricarinatus by an EdU (5-ethynyl-2′-deoxyuridine) assay. The optimal CP concentration for hpt cell culture and the optimal subculture method are discussed. To achieve efficient expression of a foreign gene in hpt cells cultured in vitro , different transfection methods and vectors were analysed. We found that Lipofectamine 2000 could be used to efficiently transfect a foreign vector into hpt cells and exhibited a lower level of cytotoxicity than the other methods tested, and transfection of pEGFP-N1/w249 and pDHsp70-EGFP-FLAG resulted in high EGFP expression. By transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and virus copy number analysis, we found that white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) could infect hpt cells and multiply efficiently. Our results implied that the crayfish hpt cell culture system we improved could be used as a replacement for immortal crustacean cell lines in viral infection studies. Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is characterized by hyperglycaemia causing changes in plasma lipoproteins, which leads to insulin resistance, secretion defects or both. The present study aimed to evaluate the ability of 2-dodecyl-6-methoxy-cyclohexa-2,5-diene-1,4-dione (DMDD) isolated from Averrhoa carambola L. roots to lower hyperglycaemia and to investigate its potential mechanism in diabetic mice.Material and Methods: DMDD was isolated using a column chromatographic technique. Experimental mice were fed with a high-fat diet for a month and were intravenously injected with streptozotocin (80 mg/kg, single dose). Diabetic mice were orally administered DMDD (12.5, 25, 50 mg/kg) and 50 mg/kg pioglitazone for 15 days. Fasting blood glucose (FBG), fasting blood insulin (FINS), pancreatic insulin content, interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumour necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), as well as serum total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG) and free fatty acid (FFA) were determined. Adipose tissue was assessed by histological examination, immunohistochemistry, western blot and reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction methods.Results: DMDD significantly increased the insulin level (all p < 0.05). In contrast, FBG, IL-6, TNF-α, TC, TG and FFA were significantly decreased (all p < 0.05). However, DMDD induced the activation of adipocyte peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPAR-γ), confirmed by increased protein and mRNA expression of PPAR-γ.Conclusions: DMDD possessed hypoglycaemic activity due to its potential mechanism involving PPARγ-mediated adipocyte endocrine regulation. Simple Summary: The health of Amphioctopus fangsiao, a species used in aquaculture or fish farming, can be greatly affected by infections. To understand how their immune system responds, we looked at the changes in their immune cells when exposed to substances that mimic these infections. By studying these responses, we were able to identify key parts of their immune system that change when faced with infection-causing threats. We also discovered important genes, including PKMYT1 (protein kinase, membrane associated tyrosine/threonine 1) and NAMPT (nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase), that play a crucial role in this response. Our study gives us a deeper understanding of the immune system of the Amphioctopus fangsiao. The primary influencer of aquaculture quality in Amphioctopus fangsiao is pathogen infection. Both lipopolysaccharides (LPS) and polyinosinic:polycytidylic acid (Poly I:C) are recognized by the pattern recognition receptor (PRR) within immune cells, a system that frequently serves to emulate pathogen invasion. Hemolymph, which functions as a transport mechanism for immune cells, offers vital transcriptome information when A. fangsiao is exposed to pathogens, thereby contributing to our comprehension of the species' immune biological mechanisms. In this study, we conducted analyses of transcript profiles under the influence of LPS and Poly I:C within a 24 h period. Concurrently, we developed a Weighted Gene Co-expression Network Analysis (WGCNA) to identify key modules and genes. Further, we carried out Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) enrichment analyses to investigate the primary modular functions. Co-expression network analyses unveiled a series of immune response processes following pathogen stress, identifying several key modules and hub genes, including PKMYT1 and NAMPT. Recent study on nearly half-metallic Heusler compound NiFeMnSn pointed out that its high spin polarization was destroyed by the existence of site disorder, hindering its further applications in spintronics devices [Mukadam M D, et al., 2016 Phys. In the present work, by employing the first-principles calculations, we study the influence of Co + Si co-doping on the magnetic properties and electronic structures of NiFeMnSn by substituting Ni with Co as well as Sn with Si. The calculated relative formation energy indicates that the co-doped compound could be easily obtained. The total magnetic moments at various co-doping concentrations are consistent with the Slater-Pauling rule. Analyses on electronic structures reveal that four co-doped compounds, i.e., Ni 0.5 Co 0.5 FeMnSn 0.25 Si 0.75 , Ni 0.5 Co 0.5 FeMnSi, Ni 0.25 Co 0.75 FeMnSn 0.25 Si 0.75 and Ni 0.25 Co 0.75 FeMnSi possess perfect 100% spin polarization. Furthermore, owing to the fact that the Fermi levels of Ni 0.5 Co 0.5 FeMnSn 0.25 Si 0.75 , Ni 0.5 Co 0.5 FeMnSi and Ni 0.25 Co 0.75 FeMnSi are adjusted to the middle of the spin down energy gap, their half metallicity is enhanced. Acephalic spermatozoa is an extremely rare disease associated with primary infertility. A recent study showed that genetic alterations in the SUN5 gene lead to this disease, and SUN5 mutations could explain the disease in about half of the patients. Therefore, in the present study, to re-visit the genetic contribution of SUN5 mutations to acephalic spermatozoa, we recruited 15 unrelated affected individuals and screened the SUN5 gene for mutations by whole-exome sequencing (WES) and Sanger sequencing. Five of the 15 (33.33%) subjects were found to carry the same homozygous mutation in the SUN5 gene c.381delA (p.V128Sfs*7). Neither homozygous nor compound heterozygous mutations in SUN5 were found in the other 10 patients. The c.381delA mutation resulted in the truncation of the SUN5 protein and decreased the expression and altered the distribution of the outer dense fiber 1 (ODF1) protein. Thus, in our study SUN5 mutations accounted for only one-third of the patients in our cohort, which is lower than the percentage reported previously. Thus, our study suggests that the contribution of SUN5 mutations to acephalic spermatozoa might not be as high as described previously. Background: The prognostic role of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) in ovarian cancer has been investigated in previous studies, but the results remain controversial. Here we present a meta-analysis to systematically review the association between HER2 expression and ovarian cancer prognosis. Method: Observational studies published until July 2017 were searched in Pubmed, Embase, and Cochrane library databases. Hazard ratios (HRs) for survival with 95% confidence intervals (CIs), subgroup analyses, publication bias and sensitivity analyses were implemented under a standard manner. Estimates of overall survival (OS), progress-free survival (PFS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were weighted and pooled using Der Simonian-Laird random-effect model. Result: Thirty-four studies that include 5180 ovarian cancer patients were collected for analysis. Expression of HER2 was negatively correlated with clinical prognosis of overall survival (HR = 1.57, 95% CI: 1.31 to 1.89, P < 0.001) and disease-free survival / progress-free survival (HR = 1.26, 95% CI = 1.06 to 1.49) in ovarian cancers. The association between HER2 expression and poor ovarian cancer prognosis in overall survival was also statistically significant in subgroups of unclassified ovarian cancer, Caucasian population and Asian population, while irrespective of detection method. Purpose The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of human antigen R (HuR) downregulation and the potential target genes of HuR on the progression of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Materials and Methods In this study, a proteomics assay was used to detect the expression of proteins after HuR downregulation, and a luciferase assay was used to detect the potential presence of a HuR binding site on the 3'-untranslated region (3'-UTR) of interleukin 18 (IL-18). In addition, colony formation assay, MTT, EdU incorporation assay, Western blot, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, transwell invasion assay, and wound healing assay were used. Results In the present study, we found that the expression of both HuR protein and mRNA levels were higher in tumor tissues than in the adjacent tissues. HuR downregulation significantly suppressed cell proliferation. In addition, the metastasis of esophageal cancer cells was inhibited, while the expression of E-cadherin was increased and the expression of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) 2, MMP9, and vimentin was decreased after HuR knockdown. Moreover, silencing of HuR disturbed the cell cycle of ESCC cells mainly by inducing G1 arrest. Furthermore, proteomics analysis showed that downregulation of HuR in TE-1 cells resulted in 100 upregulated and 122 downregulated proteins, including IL-18 as a significantly upregulated protein. The expression of IL-18 was inversely regulated by HuR. IL-18 expression was decreased in ESCC tissues, and exogenous IL-18 significantly inhibited the proliferation and metastasis of ESCC cells. The 3'-UTR of IL-18 harbored a HuR binding site, as shown by an in vitro luciferase assay. Lung cancer, a malignant tumor, is the most frequently fatal cancer, with poor survival rates in the advanced stages. In order to improve the understanding of this disease, and to improve the outcomes of patients, additional studies are required. In the present study, differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in patients with lung cancer compared with controls were identified. To understand how these DEGs act together to account for the initiation of lung cancer, a protein interaction network and a transcriptional regulatory network were constructed to explore the clusters and pathways in lung cancer, and the results indicated that PTTG1 and MMP9 served major roles in the development of lung cancer in the regulatory system. Consistent with this, mRNA and protein expression levels of PTTG1 and MMP9 were significantly upregulated in lung cancer tissues compared with normal lung tissues. The overexpression of PTTG1 or MMP9 was induced in the human bronchial epithelial BEAS-2B cell line, indicating that increased PTTG1 or MMP9 alone may not only facilitate cell migration, proliferation and induce colony formation, but also suppress cell apoptosis. Ciprofloxacin (CIP) biodegradation was investigated using enrichments obtained in the presence of magnetite nanoparticles, CIP and human fecal sewage. CIP addition inhibited methanogenic activity and altered the bacterial community composition. The magnetite-supplemented enrichments significantly promoted CIP biodegradation, especially in the presence of 2-bromoethanesulfonate (BES). When BES was added, CIP biodegradation in the magnetite-supplemented enrichments was 67% higher than in the magnetite-unamended enrichments. Fe (II) concentrations were also significantly increased in the BES and magnetite-supplemented enrichments. This indicated that there might be a positive relationship of CIP biodegradation with microbial reduction of Fe (III) to Fe (II). As for the magnetite-supplemented enrichments, DNA-sequencing analysis revealed that Stenotrophomonas was the dominant genus, while Desulfovibrio became the dominant genus in the presence of BES. Multiple morphological abnormalities of the sperm flagella (MMAF) is a rare disease associated with primary infertility; however, ~ 50% of the genetic alterations associated with MMAF remain unclear. Here, we reported the case of a 30-year-old infertile male from a consanguineous family. Whole-exome sequencing identified a homozygous mutation in the CEP135 gene (c.A1364T:p.D455V), with CEP135 previously reported to play a role in centriole biogenesis and specifically central pair assembly. D455V-mutated proteins formed protein aggregates in the centrosome and the flagella, which might potentially affect the function of centriole assembly. Moreover, intracytoplasmic sperm injection was performed using sperm from this patient; however, pregnancy failed following embryo transfer. This represents the first report of a homozygous mutation of CEP135 associated with MMAF. These results provide researchers and clinicians with a deeper understanding of the gene involved with MMAF and will help predict and assess pregnancy outcomes associated with in vitro fertilization. During infection, bacteria might generate adaptive responses to facilitate their survival and colonization in the host environment. The alarmone guanosine 5′-triphosphate-3′-diphosphate (ppGpp), the levels of which are regulated by the RelA and SpoT enzymes, plays a critical role in mediating bacterial adaptive responses and virulence. However, the mechanism by which ppGpp regulates virulence-associated traits in Pseudomonas aeruginosa is poorly understood. To investigate the regulatory role of ppGpp, the ppGpp-deficient strain Δ RS ( relA and spoT gene double mutant) and the complemented strain Δ RS ++ (complemented with relA and spoT genes) were constructed. Herein, we reported that the Δ RS strain showed decreased cytotoxicity towards A549 human alveolar adenocarcinoma cell lines and led to reduced mortality, lung edema and inflammatory cell infiltration in a mouse model of acute pneumonia compared to wild-type PAO1 and the complemented strain Δ RS ++ . Subsequent analyses demonstrated that the Δ RS strain displayed reduced T3SS expression, decreased levels of elastase activity, pyocyanin, pyoverdin and alginate, and inhibited swarming and biofilm formation compared to PAO1 and the complemented strain Δ RS ++ . In addition, the results demonstrate that ppGpp-mediated regulation of T3SS, virulence factor production, and swarming occurs in a quinolone quorum-sensing system-dependent manner. Taken together, these results suggest that ppGpp is required for virulence regulation in P. aeruginosa , providing new clues for the development of interference strategies against bacterial infection. In this study, we evaluated the effect of puerarin (PR) on diabetic nephropathy (DN) in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic mice. The fasting blood glucose (FBG), blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatinine (Scr), as well as 24-hour urine protein levels were effectively ameliorated in DN mice treated with PR (20, 40, 80 mg/kg/day). Furthermore, PR treatment markedly resulted in down-regulation of interleukin-6 (IL-6), tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) in kidney. Interestingly, the activities of manganese superoxide dismutase (MnSOD) and catalase (CAT) were increased by PR. An improvement in kidney tissue damage could be observed after PR administration. Further ultrastructural investigation revealed a dramatically ameliorative effect of PR on mitochondrial damage. Meanwhile, the silent information regulator 1 (SIRT1), forkhead box protein O1 (FOXO1) and alpha subunit of peroxisome proliferators-activated receptor-gamma coactivator-1 (PGC-1α) expressions were significantly up-regulated at protein level by PR administration in renal cortex. However, the protein expression of nuclear-factor kappa B (NF-κB) was down-regulated in PR groups. Our present study demonstrates the hypoglycemic and renal protective effects of PR in DN mice, which support its anti-diabetic property. Effects of oxidation cross-linking and sintering additives (TiN, B) on the microstructure formation and heat-resistant performance of freestanding SiC(Ti, B) films synthesized from Ti, B-containing polycarbosilane (TiB-PCS) precursor were investigated. TiB-PCS green films were first cross-linked for 1 h, 2 h, 3 h and 4 h, respectively, and then pre-sintered at 950 °C. Finally, they were sintered at 1800 °C to complete the conversion from organic films to inorganic SiC(Ti, B) films. The results reveal that curing time has a great impact on the uniformity and density of SiC(Ti, B) films. TiB-PCS films cured for 3 h yield the best quality SiC(Ti, B) films, which are composed of β-SiC crystals, C clusters, α-SiC nano-crystals, a small amount of TiB 2 and B 4 C. TiB 2 and B 4 C are both steady phases which can inhibit abnormal growth of β-SiC, effectively reduce sintering temperature and help consume excess C from decomposition of amorphous SiO x C y . After high temperature annealing at 1500 °C, 1600 °C and 1700 °C in argon, SiC(Ti, B) films still keep excellent mechanical properties, which makes them attractive candidate materials for microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) used at ultra-high temperatures (exceeding 1500 °C). Background: Averrhoacarambola L., which is a folk medicine used in diabetes mellitus (DM) in ancient China, has been reported to have anti-diabetic efficacy. Aims: The aim of this study was to evaluate the hypoglycemic effect of the extract of Averrhoacarambola L. root (EACR) on the regulation of the Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)-Nuclear-factor kappa B (NF-κB) pathway in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic mice. Methods: the mice were injected with STZ (120 mg/kg body weight) via a tail vein. After 72 h, the mice with FBG > 11.1 mmol/L were confirmed as having diabetes. Subsequently, the mice were treated intragastrically with EACR (300, 600, 1200 mg/kg body weight/d) and metformin (320 mg/kg body weight/d) for 14 days. Results: As a result the serum fasting blood glucose (FBG), interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-a (TNF-a) levels were decreased following EACR administration. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed that the pancreatic tissue expression levels of TLR4 and NF-κB were downregulated after EACR administration. EACR suppressed pancreatic mRNA expression level of TLR4 and blocked the downstream NF-κB pathway in the pancreas. According to Western blot analysis EACR suppressed pancreatic TLR4 and NF-κB protein expression levels. Histopathological examination of the pancreas showed that STZ-induced pancreas lesions were alleviated by the EACR treatment. Conclusion: These findings suggest that the modulation of the IL-6 and TNF-a inflammatory cytokines and the suppression of the TLR4-NF-κB pathway are most likely involved in the anti-hyperglycemic effect of EACR in STZ-induced diabetic mice. Background: In Chinese culture, the roots of Averrhoa carambola L. have long been used for medical purposes due to their potent pharmaceutical activities, such as improving digestive function and treating diabetes. Methods: Recently, we prepared extracts of Averrhoa carambola L. root (EACR), which were isolated from Averrhoa carambola L. roots using ethanol or water. This study was designed to investigate the potential effects of EACR on streptozotocin (STZ) diabetic mice and to explore the underlying mechanism of these effects. Male mice were injected with STZ through the tail vein (120 mg/kg body weight) and were identified as a diabetic mouse model when the level of blood glucose was ≥11.1 mmol/L. Subsequently, the mice were administered EACR (150, 300, 600, 1200 mg/kg body weight/d) and metformin (320 mg/kg body weight/d) via intragastric gavage for three weeks. Results: The results indicated that EACR significantly decreased the serum levels of blood glucose, total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TGs) and free fatty acids (FFAs), whereas the content of serum insulin was elevated. In addition, the expressions of apoptosis-related regulators (including caspase-3, caspase-8 and caspase-9) and the apoptosis-induced protein Bax were markedly down-regulated by EACR, whereas the expression of the anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 protein was notably increased. Periodontitis is among most common human inflammatory diseases and characterized by destruction of tooth-supporting tissues that will eventually lead to tooth loss. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a group of metabolic disorders characterized by chronic hyperglycemia which results from defects in insulin secretion and/or insulin resistance. Numerous studies have provided evidence for the inter-relationship between DM and periodontitis that has been considered as the sixth most frequent complication of DM. However, the mechanisms are not fully understood yet. The impact of DM on periodontitis through hyperglycemia and inflammatory pathways is well described, but the effects of DM on oral microbiota remain controversial according to previous studies. Recent studies using next-generation sequencing technology indicate that DM can alter the biodiversity and composition of oral microbiome especially subgingival microbiome. This may be another mechanism by which DM risks or aggravates periodontitis. Thus, to understand the role of oral microbiome in periodontitis of diabetics and the mechanism of shifts of oral microbiome under DM would be valuable for making specific therapeutic regimens for treating periodontitis patients with DM or preventing diabetic patients from periodontitis. This article reviews the role of oral microbiome in periodontal health (symbiosis) and disease (dysbiosis), highlights the oral microbial shifts under DM and summarizes the mechanism of the shifts. Abstract: Objectives: To assess the temporal and spatial relationship of risk for total leukemia and AML (acute myelogenous leukemia) among community residents of an area in northeastern (NE) Pennsylvania (PA) affected by the Tranguch Gasoline Spill which occurred in the early 1990s. Methods: Standardized incidence ratios (SIR) were calculated for total leukemia and AML among 625 residents affected by the gasoline spill in relation to both PA and local county cancer incidence rates. The risk of total leukemia and AML among the gasoline exposed population was evaluated for the period prior to the spill, 1985–1989; during the time surrounding the spill, 1990–1994; and for a period subsequent to the spill, 1995–2001. Results: The incidence of total leukemia and AML was significantly elevated subsequent to the spill for the entire period 1990–2001 and was highest for the period 1995–2001, whether comparison was made to PA or local county leukemia rates. Based on comparison to PA rates, the SIRs for total leukemia and AML were 7.69 (95% CI=1.58–22.46) and 11.54 (95% CI=2.38–33.69) for the 1995–2001 period, respectively. Prior to the spill, 1985–1989, and during the period of the spill, 1990–1994, no cases of leukemia were identified among the affected residents. Conclusions: These results suggest a possible association between chronic low level benzene exposure and increased risk of leukemia among residents of the Tranguch Spill Site in NE PA. Our study provides additional support to the growing body of evidence implicating low level benzene exposure and cancer risk. We recommend that other communities contaminated with gasoline vapor through leaking underground storage vessels be monitored for elevated risk of leukemia. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: Insect cadherin proteins localized in the midgut epithelium were identified as receptors for Bacillus thuringiensis insecticidal crystal proteins (Cry toxins). These cadherins facilitated toxin monomer oligomerization and mediated oligomer binding to secondary receptors. It has been reported that Manduca sexta, Helicoverpa armigera, Anopheles gambiae and Diabrotica virgifera cadherin toxin binding regions function as synergists for Cry1A, Cry4Ba and Cry3A toxicity against target insects. In the present study, the toxin binding region fragment of the H. armigera cadherin (hacad1) gene was cloned and fused with the promoter of the cry3Aa gene. The fusion gene pro3Aa-hacad1 and the cry1Ac gene were inserted into shuttle vector pHT304 and introduced into B. thuringiensis acrystalliferous strain BMB171 for coexpression (resulting in recombinant strain BMB1073). SDS-PAGE and mass spectrum analysis showed that BMB1073 could express HaCad1 and Cry1Ac proteins together. Bioassay results demonstrated that insecticidal activities against H. armigera and Spodoptera exigua could be increased 5.1-fold and 6.5-fold, respectively, by BMB1073 compared with the strain which can only express the Cry1Ac protein. Our discovery showed that coexpression of HaCad1 and Cry1Ac toxin in B. thuringiensis enhanced the insecticidal activity of Cry1Ac toward Lepidoptera insects. This finding also revealed a novel strategy for engineering strains and transgenic plants with higher insecticidal activity. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

Abstract: A kind of non-conjugated blue luminescent polymer based on fluorene and benzoxazole was synthesized via solution condensation polymerization from 2,2-bis(3-amino-4-hydroxyphenyl)-propane and 2,7-dicarboxyl-9,9-dioctyl-fluorene and was characterized with H NMR, FT-IR, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), UV–vis absorption and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. The polymer displayed the maximum photoluminescence emission peak at 415nm and showed high PL spectroscopic stability. The green-to-blue emission intensity ratio I Green/I Blue is only 0.073 even after thermal annealing at 150°C for 30h. After being exposed to UV light for 30min, no bathochromic emission or obvious crosslink is observed. The common phenomenon of greenish blue emission of fluorene-based polymer around 525nm has been effectively restrained in this polymer by introducing the isopropylidene group into the backbone of polymer. In this paper we use gravitational modelling to study the requirement and design of the proof mass for the ASTROD (Astrodynamical Space Test of Relativity using Optical Device) mission. The gravitational interaction between a sphere and a cylinder is described by a 1-D integration for calculating the deviation acceleration of proof mass from the inertial orbit. It is found that the deviation acceleration is almost independent of the shape of proof mass for the combined configuration of proof mass with outer reference mass in ASTROD mission, while it depends on the dimensions of outer reference mass. The rotational-vibration period of proof mass due to the reference mass torque is calculated to be 2.4 days. Strategies for controlling the proof mass rotation is proposed. Requirements to keep the residual acceleration below 10−13 – 10−15m/s2√H z level are discussed. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

At present, gas sensors have promising prospects in terms of gas monitoring. Heterostructure with high carrier transport property is an alternative strategy to enhance the gas sensitivity. Herein, we directly transformed ZnSn(OH) 6 microspheres to obtain SnS 2 /ZnS heterostructures through a low-cost hydrothermal treatment. Hierarchical SnS 2 /ZnS flowerlike microspheres consisting of ultrathin nanoflakes subunits were successfully synthesized without any impurities. The more attractive finding is the great improvement of triethylamine gas-sensing properties of the SnS 2 /ZnS composite compared to the pure SnS 2 at 180 °C. Especially, the proposed SnS 2 /ZnS sensor demonstrates ultrafast responding and recovering time (2/8 s) to 50 ppm TEA. Such significantly enhanced sensing properties can be ascribed to the merit of heterojunction and high specific surface area provided by flakes-assembled flowerlike structure. In the meiotic prophase, programmed SPO11‐linked DNA double‐strand breaks (DSBs) are repaired by homologous recombination (HR). The MRE11‐RAD50‐NBS1 (MRN) complex is essential for initiating DNA end resection, the first step of HR. However, residual DNA end resection still occurs in Nbs1 knockout (KO) spermatocytes for unknown reasons. Here, we show that DNA end resection is completely abolished in Mre11 KO spermatocytes. In addition, Mre11 KO, but not Nbs1 KO, undifferentiated spermatogonia are rapidly exhausted due to DSB accumulation, proliferation defects, and elevated apoptosis. Cellular studies reveal that a small amount of MRE11 retained in the nucleus of Nbs1 KO cells likely underlies the differences between Mre11 and Nbs1 KO cells. Taken together, our study not only demonstrates an irreplaceable role of the MRE11 in DNA end resection at SPO11‐linked DSBs but also unveils a unique function of MRE11 in maintaining the long‐term viability of undifferentiated spermatogonia. Simple Summary: As a filter-feeding and sessile invertebrate living in estuaries and intertidal areas, Crassostrea gigas must cope with and adapt to a dynamic and changeable environment. Vibrio alginolyticus is a Gram-negative bacterium that is widespread in oceans and estuaries, and is one of the main Vibrio species that cause oyster disease. In this study, we used transcriptome sequencing to help us better understand how the giant oyster adapts to pathogen-rich environments. By focusing on the gills, which play a crucial role in the immune response, we aimed to shed light on the molecular processes underlying the interaction between the oyster and the pathogen. Over the years, oysters have faced recurring mass mortality issues during the summer breeding season, with Vibrio infection emerging as a significant contributing factor. Tubules of gill filaments were confirmed to be in the hematopoietic position in Crassostrea gigas, which produce hemocytes with immune defense capabilities. Additionally, the epithelial cells of oyster gills produce immune effectors to defend against pathogens. In light of this, we performed a transcriptome analysis of gill tissues obtained from C. gigas infected with Vibrio alginolyticus for 12 h and 48 h. Through this analysis, we identified 1024 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) at 12 h post-injection and 1079 DEGs at 48 h post-injection. Enrichment analysis of these DEGs revealed a significant association with immune-related Gene Ontology (GO) terms and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways. To further investigate the immune response, we constructed a protein–protein interaction (PPI) network using the DEGs enriched in immune-associated KEGG pathways. This network provided insights into the interactions and relationships among these genes, shedding light on the underlying mechanisms of the innate immune defense mechanism in oyster gills. To ensure the accuracy of our findings, we validated 16 key genes using quantitative RT-PCR. Overall, this study represents the first exploration of the innate immune defense mechanism in oyster gills using a PPI network approach. Background: Exosomes are extracellular vesicles containing a variety of biological molecules including microRNAs (miRNAs). We have recently demonstrated that certain miRNA species are selectively and highly enriched in pancreatic cancer exosomes with miR-1246 being the most abundant. Exosome miRNAs have been shown to mediate intercellular communication in the tumor microenvironment and promote cancer progression. Therefore, understanding how exosomes selectively enrich specific miRNAs to initiate exosome miRNA signaling in cancer cells is critical to advancing cancer exosome biology. Results: The aim of this study was to identify RNA binding proteins responsible for selective enrichment of exosome miRNAs in cancer cells. A biotin-labeled miR-1246 probe was used to capture RNA binding proteins (RBPs) from PANC-1 cells. Among the RBPs identified through proteomic analysis, SRSF1, EIF3B and TIA1 were highly associated with the miR-1246 probe. RNA immunoprecipitation (RIP) and electrophoretic mobility shift assay (EMSA) confirmed the binding of SRSF1 to miR-1246. Lentivirus shRNA knockdown of SRSF1 in pancreatic cancer cells selectively reduced exosome miRNA enrichment whereas GFP-SRSF1 overexpression enhanced the enrichment as analyzed by next generation small RNA sequencing and qRT-PCR. miRNA sequence motif analysis identified a common motif shared by 36/45 of SRSF1-associated exosome miRNAs. EMSA confirmed that shared motif decoys inhibit the binding of SRSF1 to the miR-1246 sequence. Accumulating evidence suggests that changes in the tumor microenvironment caused by radiotherapy are closely related to the recurrence of glioma. However, the mechanisms by which such radiation‐induced changes are involved in tumor regrowth have not yet been fully investigated. In the present study, how cranial irradiation‐induced senescence in non‐neoplastic brain cells contributes to glioma progression is explored. It is observed that senescent brain cells facilitated tumor regrowth by enhancing the peripheral recruitment of myeloid inflammatory cells in glioblastoma. Further, it is identified that astrocytes are one of the most susceptible senescent populations and that they promoted chemokine secretion in glioma cells via the senescence‐associated secretory phenotype. By using senolytic agents after radiotherapy to eliminate these senescent cells substantially prolonged survival time in preclinical models. The findings suggest the tumor‐promoting role of senescent astrocytes in the irradiated glioma microenvironment and emphasize the translational relevance of senolytic agents for enhancing the efficacy of radiotherapy in gliomas. The effects of the interaction between polygenes and the parent–child relationship on junior high school students' aggressive behaviors were explored through the frameworks of gene‐endophenotype‐behavior and neurophysiological basis. A total of 892 junior high school students participated in this study. They were asked to complete self‐reported questionnaires, and saliva samples were collected. Results showed that 5‐HTTLPR, MAOA‐uVNTR, COMT (rs4680), and Taq1 (rs1800497) of the DRD2 gene affected students' aggressive behaviors in an accumulative way. The polygenic risk score explained 3.4% of boys' aggression and 1.1% of girls' aggression. The interactions between polygenic risk score and parent–child conflict significantly affected the aggressive behaviors of male students, but did not show any significant effect on those of female students. The interactional effect of polygenic risk score and parent–child conflict on junior high school students' aggressive behaviors was completely mediated by frustration. However, the interaction effect of polygenic risk score and parent–child affinity on aggression was not affected by frustration. This study helps us better understand junior high school students' aggressive behaviors and promotes the prevention and correction of adolescents' problem behaviors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
