Since deviance of youth is a result of certain life circumstances and social disadvantage, the author proposes to consider the risks of youth deviance through the prism of social security / protection of this social group. Social injustice is considered as a generalized (general) social risk of deviance. The reasoning of the author is supported by statistical data about certain types of youth deviance, as well as data about the level of social security / protection of young people.

The paper looks at the contemporary youth environment from the standpoint of juvenology. The youth is regarded as a distinct social community prone to violating the norms and rules due to the specific mentality and functional characteristics. The authors denote the youth age range, social status and roles, behavior patterns, life style and subculture preferences. The youth community is most open to innovation, being its generator and consumer, conductor of information flows, initiator of new behavior patterns and stereotypes including the negative ones. The main disadvantages of the given age group are the lack of social experience, rejection of traditional cultural behavior patterns on the one hand, and high susceptibility and imitation propensity on the other hand. The research demonstrates that social deviation often results from the young people’s dissatisfaction and lack of social prospects. Therefore, the factors determining the above trends are related to insufficient attention to the youth’s requirements and interests on the part of the government and society.

This dissertation analyzes the fate of children and teenagers sent to Spanish reformatory schools between 1939 and 1975. It compares the official norm of youth deviance produced by Franco's state with the actual treatment of minors in three institutions: the Asilo Durán in Barcelona, the Colonia San Vicente Ferrer in Valencia and, to a lesser extent, the Casa tutelar San Francisco de Paula in Sevilla. The turbulent history of reformatorios and their antiquated methods reflect the failings of the Spanish State (structural lack of means, strong influence of the Catholic Church). The study of laws shows that Francoism innovates very little in the field of youth deviance management. It merely abrogates the limited reforms of the Republican era and reactivates the policy implemented under the Primo de Rivera Dictatorship. The inmates of reformatory schools are incarcerated for two main motives: theft and indiscipline. They are not from traditional working class neighborhoods: social frailty and related deviant behaviors are rather caused by the loss of roots due to the war and the deep mutations of Spanish society. Children of “reds” only accounted for a minority of inmates of the Asilo Durán and of the Colonia San Vicente Ferrer. Reformatorios are nevertheless a component of the policy of repression, social control and charity set up by Franco's dictatorship with the support of the Catholic Church., Ce travail de thèse porte sur le destin des enfants et des adolescents envoyés en maisons de redressement (reformatorios) de 1939 à 1975.

Female violence has long been eclipsed in public discourses and representations by male misuse of force. This appears to be true especially in the case of youth behaviour: whereas brutality in boys was constitutive of their rising manliness, violence in girls was supposed to be impossible, hidden or pathological. In accordance with their social status as subordinates belonging to the so-called “private sphere”, young women were not viewed as threatening social order. The rise of Child Guidance institutions in the juvenile justice system triggered a new perception of female violence. Violence on the part of girls was considered highly gender-specific; as such it entered the aetiology of deviant behaviour, under the category of “behaviour trouble”. Highly normative, gender, age and class-biased, the dossiers of the Belgian child guidance clinics in the fifties and sixties nevertheless allow the historian to hear the voice of the inmates, whose violence appear to be a testimony of the self, and even a desire for social recognition, at a time of changing status of youth and women in western societies.
