Abstract Objectives To investigate the image quality and diagnostic performance with ultra-low dose dual-layer detector spectral CT (DLSCT) by various reconstruction techniques for evaluation of pulmonary nodules. Materials and methods Between April 2023 and December 2023, patients with suspected pulmonary nodules were prospectively enrolled and underwent regular-dose chest CT (RDCT; 120 kVp/automatic tube current) and ultra-low dose CT (ULDCT; 100 kVp/10 mAs) on a DLSCT scanner. ULDCT was reconstructed with hybrid iterative reconstruction (HIR), electron density map (EDM), and virtual monoenergetic images at 40 keV and 70 keV. Quantitative and qualitative image analysis, nodule detectability, and Lung-RADS evaluation were compared using repeated one-way analysis of variance, Friedman test, and weighted kappa coefficient. Results A total of 249 participants (mean age ± standard deviation, 50.0 years ± 12.9; 126 male) with 637 lung nodules were included. ULDCT resulted in a significantly lower mean radiation dose than RDCT (0.3 mSv ± 0.0 vs. 3.6 mSv ± 0.8; p 0.60). Conclusion Ultra-low dose dual-layer detector CT with 91.2% radiation dose reduction achieves sufficient image quality and diagnostic performance of pulmonary nodules. Critical relevance statement Dual-layer detector spectral CT enables substantial radiation dose reduction without impairing image quality for the follow-up of pulmonary nodules or lung cancer screening. Key Points Radiation dose is a major concern for patients requiring pulmonary nodules CT screening. Abstract Steam generating heat pump (SGHP) is a key technology for industrial decarbonization. For comprehensive evaluation of the feasibility and reliability of SGHP in different industrial sector, the work develops a thorough evaluation model for assessing the performance of SGHP by considering waste heat recovery, CO2 trading value, and pollutant emission cost, in addition to the conventional evaluation criteria. This work presents a thorough comparison of the thermodynamic performance and sustainability of various types of SGHPs across different industrial sector. Additionally, the conflicting relationships between the coefficient of performance (COP) and exergy efficiency are balanced through the application of the technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS). The results show that all the indexes of SGHP connected to an open heat pump (SGHPO) with different application scenarios are higher than those of SGHP connected to a flash tank (SGHPF). At the most unfavorable operating condition of the system, the COP minimum value is 1.31 and the exergy efficiency minimum value is 20.42%. These results indicate that replacing the coal-fired boiler with SGHP is feasible and the work could provide theoretical guidance for optimal design and equipment manufacture.

Abstract Background To explore the value of dual-energy computed tomography (DECT) in differentiating pathological subtypes and the expression of immunohistochemical markers Ki-67 and thyroid transcription factor 1 (TTF-1) in patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods Between July 2022 and May 2024, patients suspected of lung cancer who underwent two-phase contrast-enhanced DECT were prospectively recruited. Whole-tumor volumetric and conventional spectral analysis were utilized to measure DECT parameters in the arterial and venous phase. The DECT parameters model, clinical-CT radiological features model, and combined prediction model were developed to discriminate pathological subtypes and predict Ki-67 or TTF-1 expression. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was used to identify independent predictors. The diagnostic efficacy was assessed by the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) and compared using DeLong’s test. Results This study included 119 patients (92 males and 27 females; mean age, 63.0 ± 9.4 years) who was diagnosed with NSCLC. When applying the DECT parameters model to differentiate between adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, ROC curve analysis indicated superior diagnostic performance for conventional spectral analysis over volumetric spectral analysis (AUC, 0.801 vs. 0.709). Abstract Background HIV/AIDS has emerged as a nationwide epidemic and has taken the forefront position as the primary infectious killer of adults in China. The control and prevention of the disease have been hampered by a weak link in the form of heterosexual transmission. However, conventional intervention measures have demonstrated suboptimal efficacy in reducing the incidence of new HIV infections. In light of the current epidemiological characteristics, we have developed and executed an innovative intervention model known as the Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism of the ‘CDC-Public Security Bureau-NGO’. The purpose of this research is to assess the impact of this model on the AIDS awareness, HIV infection rates, sexual behavior, and associated factors among female sex workers and elderly clients. Through the provision of robust evidence of the efficacy of this innovative model, we seek to advocate for its implementation in future interventions. Methods The research design of this study incorporates both a serial cross-sectional study and time-series analysis from 2014 to 2021, including a 4-year traditional intervention (2014–2017) and the 4-year ‘CDC-Public Security Bureau-NGO’ innovative intervention (2018–2021), was conducted to evaluate the effects of the new intervention. The GM(1, 1) model was performed to predict the proportion of HIV infection without implementing the innovative intervention in 2018–2021; P and C values were used to evaluate the performance of the model. Background: Tuberculosis (TB), one of the deadliest infectious diseases globally, is increasingly exacerbated in China by the emergence of resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) strains. Drug-resistant TB, including mono-drug-resistant TB, multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB), and extensively drug-resistant TB (XDR-TB), presents significant public health challenges. Methods: We conducted a systematic literature review from January 2010 to February 2024 using databases such as PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and Google Scholar. Our focus was on empirical data related to drug resistance patterns in newly diagnosed TB cases. Non-empirical studies were excluded through meticulous filtering. For the meta-analysis, we used Review Manager (RevMan) 5.2 and assessed evidence quality using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS). Results: Our search strategy identified 40 studies that met the inclusion criteria, encompassing a total sample size of 87,667 participants. Among new TB cases, the estimated prevalence of MDR-TB in China was 6.9% (95% CI: 5.6–8.1%). Prevalence rates for mono-drug resistance to first-line anti-TB medications were as follows: isoniazid at 18.2% (95% CI: 16.4–20.6%), rifampicin at 10.5% (95% CI: 8.6–12.8%), and ethambutol at 5.7% (95% CI: 4.1–7.3%). The prevalence of streptomycin resistance, a former first-line anti-TB drug, was 17.1% (95% CI: 14.6–19.1%). The prevalence of other types of mono-drug resistance was 15.2% (95% CI: 13.9–17.3%), and for XDR-TB, it was 0.9% (95% CI: 0.6–1.4%). Conclusions: The high prevalence of drug-resistant TB in China poses a significant public health challenge. There is an urgent need for targeted interventions and continued surveillance to combat the spread of drug-resistant TB.

The combination of polyphenols and protein can improve the functional characteristics of protein. How to effectively promote the binding of polyphenols to protein is still a difficult topic. In this study, hydrodynamic cavitation (HC) was used to induce the fabrication of complexes between soy protein isolate (SPI) and different polyphenols (tannic acid (TA), chlorogenic acid (CGA), ferulic acid (FA), caffeic acid (CA), and gallic acid (GA)). The effect of HC on the interaction between polyphenols and SPI was investigated, and the structural and functional properties of the formed complexes were characterized. The results showed that HC treatment led to SPI structure stretching, which increased the binding level of polyphenols, especially that of TA (increased from 35.08 ± 0.73% to 66.42 ± 1.35%). The increase in ultraviolet–visible absorption intensity and quenching of fluorescence intensity confirmed that HC enhanced the interaction between polyphenols and protein. HC treatment reduced the contents of free sulfhydryl and amino groups in SPI–polyphenol complexes and altered their Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, indicating that HC treatment promoted the formation of C–N and C–S bonds between SPI and polyphenols. Circular dichroism spectroscopy indicated that HC treatment altered the secondary structure of SPI–polyphenol complexes, inducing an increase in α-helix and random coil contents and a decrease in β-sheet content. Regarding functional properties, HC treatment improved the emulsification and antioxidant activity of SPI–polyphenol complexes. Therefore, HC is an effective technique for promoting the binding of polyphenols to protein.

BackgroundThe pathogenic distribution of co-infections and immunological status of patients infected with human adenovirus serotypes 3 or 7 (HAdV-3 or HAdV-7) were poorly understood.MethodsThis study involved a retrospective analysis of respiratory specimens collected from enrolled children with lower respiratory tract infections (LRTIs), positive for HAdV-3 or HAdV-7 from January 2017 to December 2019. Demographic data, clinical features, laboratory and radiographic findings were compared to delineate the impact of co-infections, and immune responses on clinical severity of HAdV-3 or HAdV-7 infections.ResultsAmong 1311cases enrolled, there were 66 infected with HAdV-3 and 58 with HAdV-7. HAdV-7-infected patients exhibited more prolonged fever (100% vs 89.4%, p=0.014), pneumonia (100% vs 89.4%, p=0.014), hypoxia (34.5% vs 12.1%, p=0.003), higher propensity for aspartate aminotransferase exceeding 80U/L (21.1% vs 4.7%, p=0.006), D-Dimer exceeding 1.65mg/L (64.9% vs 12.5%, p

IntroductionHelicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is becoming more resistant to antibiotics, and the implementation of individualized therapy is highly valuable for its eradication. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of individualized treatment guided by antibiotic susceptibility testing (AST) with a 10-day or 14-day course for the eradication of H. pylori.MethodsThis was a prospective, open-label, single-center, quasi-randomized trial in which 220 participants were randomized into groups based on AST results as AST-10-day (n = 98) and AST-14-day (n = 112) treatment groups. All participants were retested for a 14-carbon urease breath test at weeks 4–8 after the end of the treatment.ResultsThe primary resistance rates of H. pylori to metronidazole, levofloxacin, clarithromycin, and amoxicillin were 94.1% (207/220), 42.7% (95/220), 41.4% (91/220), and 0.9% (2/220), respectively; however, no resistance to furazolidone and tetracycline was observed. In the AST-10-day and AST-14-day groups, the intention-to-treat (ITT) eradication rates were 89.8% (88/98) and 90.2% (110/122), respectively, with no statistically significant difference (p = 0.928). The per-protocol (PP) eradication rates were 92.6% (88/95) and 98.2% (110/112), respectively, with a statistically significant difference (p = 0.049). The incidence rates of adverse events (AEs) in the AST-10-day and AST-14-day groups were 6.3% (6/95) and 7.2% (8/112), respectively, with no statistically significant difference (p = 0.813). No statistically significant difference was observed in compliance between the two groups (p = 0.467).ConclusionBoth 10-day and 14-day AST guided individualized therapy can achieve satisfactory eradication effect. Compared with the 14-day regimen, the 10-day regimen has similar eradication rate and incidence of adverse events and compliance but shorter duration and lower cost.

ObjectivesTo present our initial experience of robotic ureteroplasty with lower-lip mucosal graft (LLMG) for treating ureteral stenosis longer than 2 cm and evaluate its feasibility and efficacy.Materials and methodsA total of thirteen patients with ureteral stenosis who underwent robotic ureteroplasty with LLMG were retrospectively analyzed. After identification and dissection of the ureteral stenosis segment, the segment was incised longitudinally. Then, the LLMG was harvested according to the characteristics of stenosis and sutured with the ureter in onlay fashion. All procedures were completed successfully.ResultThe median stenosis length was 3.5 cm (ranged: 3.0–4.5 cm). The mean length and width of the LLMG were 3.81 ± 0.60 cm and 1.27 ± 0.26 cm, respectively. The mean operative time and anastomosis time were 212.31 ± 23.06 min and 36.54 ± 6.58 min, respectively. The double-J stent was removed at 8 weeks postoperatively in all patients. Three patients (23.1%) suffered postoperative complications during the follow-up period (range, 6–18 months), including fever, urinary tract infection and stenosis recurrence. The success rate was 92.3% (12/13).ConclusionRobotic ureteroplasty with LLMG is a safe and feasible technique for treating ureteral stenosis.

Abstract The rising prevalence of diabetes mellitus has casted a spotlight on one of its significant sequelae: cognitive impairment. Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, originally developed for diabetes management, are increasingly studied for their cognitive benefits. These benefits may include reduction of oxidative stress and neuroinflammation, decrease of amyloid burdens, enhancement of neuronal plasticity, and improved cerebral glucose utilization. The multifaceted effects and the relatively favorable side-effect profile of SGLT2 inhibitors render them a promising therapeutic candidate for cognitive disorders. Nonetheless, the application of SGLT2 inhibitors for cognitive impairment is not without its limitations, necessitating more comprehensive research to fully determine their therapeutic potential for cognitive treatment. In this review, we discuss the role of SGLT2 in neural function, elucidate the diabetes-cognition nexus, and synthesize current knowledge on the cognitive effects of SGLT2 inhibitors based on animal studies and clinical evidence. Research gaps are proposed to spur further investigation.

Abstract Objective By meticulously tracking the evolving growth, development, and nutritional status of primary and secondary school students in Qiongzhong County from 2014 to 2021 post-implementation of the “Nutrition Improvement Program for Rural Compulsory Education Students”(NIPRCES, This project provides a supplementary food allowance of at least ￥4 per person per day for primary and secondary school students. The project area undergoes annual routine monitoring.), this study aims to offer a scientific basis for enhancing and promoting the project. Through thorough monitoring of students’ nutritional status changes influenced by this program, we strive to establish a comprehensive and evidence-based framework for its future advancement. Methods From 2014 to 2021, this study employed a multi-stage sampling method utilizing cluster sampling to select six primary and six secondary schools in Qiongzhong County, Hainan Province. Data on the growth and development of respondents were collected. This cohort was a dynamic cohort with a total of 18,762 final data recovered. The prevalence of malnutrition was evaluated using the Cochran Armitage Trend Test (CATT) to assess year-to-year changes. Furthermore, height/weight and the prevalence of malnutrition between groups were compared using the t-test, χ2 test, and Bonferroni’s corrected analysis. Results The average height of both boys and girls has increased. In 2021, boys and girls of all ages showed an average height increase of 2.31 cm and 1.98 cm, respectively, compared to 2014. Nevertheless, the growth and development levels, and rate of improvement of these students remain comparatively lower than their rural counterparts across China, who are of the same age. Customer numbers and comments have been extensively studied to increase hotel arrivals and loyalty, whereas the specific distribution and sentiment variations have received less attention. This study constructed a data set of hotel customers and the deep learning model was applied to quantify unstructured text, which can mine the distribution and sentiment variation patterns of different star hotel customers. The findings show that customers of different star-rated hotels have different variation patterns of sentiment and distribution. There is a negative correlation between the visit heat and sentiment of some high-star hotels in various administrative regions: regions with lower visit heat have higher sentiment scores. In addition, season and location are important factors that affect customers’ sentiments. This study is the first to use a quantitative approach to examine the distribution and sentiment variation patterns of hotel customers. It provides insights into appropriate marketing strategies for the hotel industry and offers practical suggestions to hotel customers.

Steam generating heat pumps (SGHPs) offer a promising alternative to coal-fired boilers. To address the lack of general optimization strategy of autocascade SGHP (ASGHP) for variable operating conditions and variable cycle configurations, this paper models an ASGHP with the addition of an IHX and the use of steam injection instead of the injector whose performance is more sensitive under variable operating conditions. The general optimization strategy of ASGHP was analyzed and proposed using the advanced exergy analysis method to evaluate the feasibility and reliability of the system under the significant temperature lift condition comprehensively. Subsequently, an optimization analysis of the system was conducted in accordance with the proposed strategy. The results indicate that the ASGHP efficiently uses a low-temperature heat source (10–20 °C) to generate high-temperature steam, achieving a substantial temperature increase and notably lowering the compressor discharge temperature. The optimization sequence for ASGHP involves prioritizing the compressor, evaporator, and condenser in that order. The average steam mass flow rate increases by 3.2 % when the evaporator heat transfer efficiency rises by 10 % at a heat source temperature of 20 °C. Furthermore, a 5 % increase in the condenser heat transfer area results in a 4.1 % increase in the average steam mass flow rate. These results can provide theoretical guidance for the design and optimization of ASGHPs.

BackgroundChina's rapidly aging population necessitates effective strategies for ensuring older adults' quality of life (QOL). While individual factors (IF) and family factors (FF) are known to influence QOL, existing research often examines these factors in isolation or focuses on specific subpopulations, overlooking potential interactions and mediating pathways. ObjectiveThis study aims to examine both direct and indirect pathways connecting IF and FF to older adults’ QOL, focusing on the mediating roles of health risks (HR) and health care service demand (HSD). MethodsThis study uses structural equation modeling (SEM) to analyze cross-sectional data from 8600 older participants in the 2015 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS), a nationally representative study using a multistage probability proportional to size sampling method. ResultsAmong the 8600 participants, the majority (5586/8502, 65.7%) were aged 60-70 years, with a near-equal distribution of males and females at around 50%. The Ti2AlNb alloy, solution-treated at 1070 °C, underwent hot rolling at 960 °C with different thickness reductions to investigate the synergistic effects of the O phase and B2 phase and their impact on its properties. The results reveal that after solution treatment, the Ti2AlNb alloy consists of nearly spherical O, lath O, and B2 matrix at 30% and 50% thickness reductions during hot rolling. However, at a 70% thickness reduction, the alloy exhibits spherical O, worm-like O, and a continuously distributed B2 phase. The α2 phase formed during solution treatment decomposes during hot rolling. As the thickness reduction increases from 30% to 70%, the O phase content initially rises and then declines, accompanied by an increase in the average dimension of the O phase from 0.25 ± 0.16 μm to 0.36 ± 0.18 μm. Additionally, the B2 phase in the alloy undergoes dynamic recrystallization (DRX) during hot rolling, coinciding with the growth and spheroidization of the O phase. With an increase in the thickness reduction during hot rolling, the elongation of the alloy increases from 5.9% at 30% reduction to 12.47% at 70% reduction. Meanwhile, the ultimate tensile strength reaches its peak value of 1092.2 MPa at 30% reduction, decreases to 936 MPa at 50%, and then increases to 970 MPa at 70%. The tensile strength of the alloy improves due to the interaction and accumulation of dislocations at the phase interface. The continuous distribution of the B2 matrix, dislocation movement, rotation of the O phase, DRX of the B2 phase, and interface slip all contribute to enhanced ductility. Furthermore, the fracture behavior of the Ti2AlNb alloys under various hot rolling conditions was elucidated.

Abstract Water pollution deteriorates ecosystems and has a great threaten to the environment. The environmental benefits of wastewater treatment are extremely important to minimize pollutants. Here, the biochar purchased from the related industry was used to treat the wastewater which contained high concentration of vanadium (V). The concentration of vanadium was measured by the IC-OES and the results showed that 96.1% vanadium (V) was reduced at selected reaction conditions: the mass ratio of biochar to vanadium of 5.4, reaction temperature of 90 °C, reaction time at 60 min and concentration of H2SO4 of 10 g/L, respectively. Response surface methodology confirmed that all the experimental parameters had positive effect on the reduction of vanadium (V), which could improve the reduction efficiency of vanadium (V) as increased. The influence of each parameter on the reduction process followed the order: A (Concentration of H2SO4) > C (mass ratio of biochar to vanadium) > B (mass ratio of biochar to vanadium). Especially, the mass ratio of biochar to vanadium and concentration of H2SO4 had the greatest influence on the reduction process. This paper provides a versatile strategy for the treatment of wastewater containing vanadium (V) and shows a bright tomorrow for wastewater treatment.

Abstract Artificial Intelligence (AI) is currently experiencing a bloom driven by deep learning (DL) techniques, which rely on networks of connected simple computing units operating in parallel. The low communication bandwidth between memory and processing units in conventional von Neumann machines does not support the requirements of emerging applications that rely extensively on large sets of data. More recent computing paradigms, such as high parallelization and near-memory computing, help alleviate the data communication bottleneck to some extent, but paradigm- shifting concepts are required. Memristors, a novel beyond-complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology, are a promising choice for memory devices due to their unique intrinsic device-level properties, enabling both storing and computing with a small, massively-parallel footprint at low power. Theoretically, this directly translates to a major boost in energy efficiency and computational throughput, but various practical challenges remain. In this work we review the latest efforts for achieving hardware-based memristive artificial neural networks (ANNs), describing with detail the working principia of each block and the different design alternatives with their own advantages and disadvantages, as well as the tools required for accurate estimation of performance metrics. Ultimately, we aim to provide a comprehensive protocol of the materials and methods involved in memristive neural networks to those aiming to start working in this field and the experts looking for a holistic approach.

Abstract Transmembrane channels play a vital role in regulating the permeation process, and have inspired recent development of biomimetic channels. Herein, we report a class of artificial biomimetic nanochannels based on DNAzyme-functionalized glass nanopipettes to realize delicate control of channel permeability, whereby the surface wettability and charge can be tuned by metal ions and DNAzyme-substrates, allowing reversible conversion between different permeability states. We demonstrate that the nanochannels can be reversibly switched between four different permeability states showing distinct permeability to various functional molecules. By embedding the artificial nanochannels into the plasma membrane of single living cells, we achieve selective transport of dye molecules across the cell membrane. Finally, we report on the advanced functions including gene silencing of miR-21 in single cancer cells and selective transport of Ca2+ into single PC-12 cells. In this work, we provide a versatile tool for the design of rectifying artificial nanochannels with on-demand functions.

White clover (Trifolium repens) is an excellent perennial cold-season ground-cover plant for municipal landscaping and urban greening. It is, therefore, widely distributed and utilized throughout the world. However, poor salt tolerance greatly limits its promotion and application. This study aims to investigate the difference in the mechanism of salt tolerance in relation to osmotic adjustment, enzymatic and nonenzymatic antioxidant defenses, and organic metabolites remodeling between salt-tolerant PI237292 (Trp004) and salt-sensitive Korla (KL). Results demonstrated that salt stress significantly induced chlorophyll loss, water imbalance, and accumulations of malondialdehyde (MDA), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), and superoxide anion (O2.−), resulting in reduced cell membrane stability in two types of white clovers. However, Trp004 maintained significantly higher leaf relative water content and chlorophyll content as well as lower osmotic potential and oxidative damage, compared with KL under salt stress. Although Trp004 exhibited significantly lower activities of superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, catalase, ascorbate peroxidase, monodehydroasorbate reductase, dehydroascorbate reductase, and glutathione reductase than KL in response to salt stress, significantly higher ascorbic acid (ASA), dehydroascorbic acid (DHA), glutathione (GSH), glutathione disulfide (GSSG), ASA/DHA, and GSH/GSSG were detected in Trp004. These findings indicated a trade-off relationship between antioxidant enzymes and nonenzymatic antioxidants in different white clover genotypes adapting to salt stress. In addition, Trp004 accumulated more organic acids (glycolic acid, succinic acid, fumaric acid, malic acid, linolenic acid, and cis-sinapic acid), amino acids (serine, l-allothreonine, and 4-aminobutyric acid), sugars (tagatose, fructose, glucoheptose, cellobiose, and melezitose), and other metabolites (myo-inositol, arabitol, galactinol, cellobiotol, and stigmasterol) than KL when they suffered from the same salt concentration and duration of stress. These organic metabolites helped to maintain osmotic adjustment, energy supply, reactive oxygen species homeostasis, and cellular metabolic homeostasis with regard to salt stress. Trp004 can be used as a potential resource for cultivating in salinized soils.

Cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of mortality globally, accounting for approximately one out of three deaths. The main underlying pathology is atherosclerosis, a dyslipidemia-driven, chronic inflammatory disease. The interplay between immune cells and non-immune cells is of great importance in the complex process of atherogenesis. During atheroprogression, intracellular metabolic pathways, such as amino acid metabolism, are master switches of immune cell function. Autophagy, an important stress survival mechanism involved in maintaining (immune) cell homeostasis, is crucial during the development of atherosclerosis and is strongly regulated by the availability of amino acids. In this review, we focus on the interplay between amino acids, especially L-leucine, L-arginine, and L-glutamine, and autophagy during atherosclerosis development and progression, highlighting potential therapeutic perspectives.

ObjectiveExplore the clinical application value of urethral mucosal pretreatment at the tip of the prostate in preventing stress urinary incontinence (SUI) after thulium laser enucleation of the prostate (ThuLEP).MethodsEighty-seven patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) treated with ThuLEP from June 2021 to December 2022 were divided into two groups. Of these, 42 patients (group A) underwent conventional ThuLEP and 45 patients (group B) were enucleated after pretreatment of the urethral mucosa. At the tip of the prostate, pretreatment of the urethral mucosa consisted of pushing the gland separately on both sides at the level of the verumontanum and cutting off the mucosa near the external urethral sphincter clockwise and counterclockwise. The perioperative and postoperative follow-up indicators [operation time, hemoglobin reduction, complications, Qmax, International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), quality of life (QoL), and post-void residual (PVR) volume] of the two groups of patients were collected and compared. All patients were followed up 1 month after surgery.ResultsAll 87 procedures were successfully completed. There was no significant difference in age and gland size between the two groups (P > 0.05). There was no significant difference between operating time and hemoglobin reduction in the two groups (P > 0.05). The Qmax, IPSS, QOL, and PVR volume were significantly improved postoperatively in both groups (P 0.05).ConclusionPretreatment of the urethral mucosa before ThuLEP for BPH significantly reduces the incidence of SUI after surgery. This technique, which preconditions the apical urethral mucosa of the prostate, is safe and effective, has few complications, and is worthy of clinical application.

Background color is a crucial factor influencing the growth performance and feed utilization in crustaceans. However, little is known about its impacts on the culture performance of Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis). In this study, we examined the impacts of six different background colors (white-W, black-BK, green-G, red-R, yellow-Y, and blue-BL) on growth, inter-molt period, and coloration and total carotenoids content of carapace of juvenile E. sinensis. The culture experiment comprised two trials: a 68-day individual culture, and a 30-day group culture. Individual culture results: No significant effects of background color were found on weight gain rate (WGR), specific growth rate (SGR), molting interval, carapace length and width, and survival rate (SR) of the juvenile crabs (P > 0.05). However, during the second molting cycle, the BL group exhibited the highest WGR, and the G group showed the lowest hepatopancreas index (HSI). Meanwhile, markedly lower feed conversion ratio (FCR) was obtained for the W group compared to the G and BK groups. Group culture results: Significantly higher SR was recorded for the BK group, and the highest limb loss rate was detected for Y group indicating the significant effects of background color on survival and aggressiveness of juvenile E. sinensis. Moreover, background color impacted the carapace coloration indices where the W, BK and Y groups showed the highest brightness (L*), redness (a*), and yellowness (b*) values, respectively. Furthermore, correlation analysis revealed a positive linear relationship between the L* value and background color (y =0.1638x+27.961, R2=0.613). In conclusion, our results demonstrated that background color significantly affects culture performance and carapace color. Black background color was shown to enhance the survival rate and reduce the limb amputation rate under group culture condition. These results provide new insights on the optimization of farming technology for juvenile E. sinensis.

Reasonable zoning is essential for maintaining the integrity and stability of natural ecosystems and achieving multi-goal management of national parks, and can facilitate efficient management and protection of various resources. Biocultural diversity is an important result and outstanding representation of human-land relationships, directly affecting the resilience of socio-ecological systems. Taking Kunlun Mountains National Park in Qinghai Province (KMNP) as an example, we transformed the dualistic conservation model of biology and culture, and the Coupling Coordination Degree Model (CCDM) was used to establish a technical framework for the functional zoning of national parks based on the collaborative protection of biological diversity and cultural diversity. The research results indicated that biocultural diversity and its coupling relationship of KMNP are relatively good, with high coupling areas mainly dominated by cultural diversity and low coupling areas mainly by biological diversity. The research suggests that KMNP should be divided into 4 functional zones: strict protection area, ecological conservation area, traditional utilization area, and comprehensive development area. These findings provide references for the planning and construction of national parks and reserves around the world, to unleash their transformative potential in addressing global biodiversity loss.

Background:Equus asinus L. [Equidae; Asini Corri Colla] (donkey-hide gelatin, E-Jiao) is a traditional Chinese medicine renowned for its exceptional blood-supplementing effect. However, the specific components that contribute to its efficacy remain elusive. This study aimed to demonstrate that peptides are responsible for E-Jiao’s blood-supplementing effect and to explore the specific peptides contributing to its efficacy.Methods: The low molecular weight peptides of E-Jiao (LMEJ) were obtained using an in vitro digestion method. LMEJ and peptides in the rat bloodstream were characterized by peptidomics analysis. The blood-supplementing effect of LMEJ was assessed using blood-deficient zebrafish and mouse models. The effect of the peptides detected in rat blood was evaluated using the same zebrafish model, and network pharmacology analysis was performed to investigate the underlying mechanisms.Results: A total of 660 unique peptides were identified within LMEJ. Both E-Jiao and LMEJ significantly alleviated myelosuppression in mice but only LMEJ attenuated myelosuppression in zebrafish. After the administration of E-Jiao to rats, 67 E-Jiao-derived peptides were detected in the bloodstream, 41 of which were identical to those identified in LMEJ. Out of these 41 peptides, five were synthesized. Subsequent verification of their effects revealed that two of them were able to alleviate myelosuppression in zebrafish. Network pharmacology study suggested that E-Jiao may exert a blood-supplementing effect by regulating signaling pathways such as JAK-STAT, IL-17 and others. These results indicated that peptides are at least partially responsible for E-Jiao’s efficacy.Conclusion: This study provides a crucial foundation for further exploration of the bioactive components of E-Jiao.

Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases are two of the most frequent neurological diseases. The clinical features of AD are memory decline and cognitive dysfunction, while PD mainly manifests as motor dysfunction such as limb tremors, muscle rigidity abnormalities, and slow gait. Abnormalities in cholesterol, sphingolipid, and glycerophospholipid metabolism have been demonstrated to directly exacerbate the progression of AD by stimulating Aβ deposition and tau protein tangles. Indirectly, abnormal lipids can increase the burden on brain vasculature, induce insulin resistance, and affect the structure of neuronal cell membranes. Abnormal lipid metabolism leads to PD through inducing accumulation of α-syn, dysfunction of mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum, and ferroptosis. Great progress has been made in targeting lipid metabolism abnormalities for the treatment of AD and PD in recent years, like metformin, insulin, peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) agonists, and monoclonal antibodies targeting apolipoprotein E (ApoE). This review comprehensively summarizes the involvement of dysregulated lipid metabolism in the pathogenesis of AD and PD, the application of Lipid Monitoring, and emerging lipid regulatory drug targets. A better understanding of the lipidological bases of AD and PD may pave the way for developing effective prevention and treatment methods for neurodegenerative disorders.

Abstract Lipid metabolism in cancer cells has garnered increasing attention in recent decades. Cancer cells thrive in hypoxic conditions, nutrient deficiency, and oxidative stress and cannot be separated from alterations in lipid metabolism. Therefore, cancer cells exhibit increased lipid metabolism, lipid uptake, lipogenesis and storage to adapt to a progressively challenging environment, which contribute to their rapid growth. Lipids aid cancer cell activation. Cancer cells absorb lipids with the help of transporter and translocase proteins to obtain energy. Abnormal levels of a series of lipid synthases contribute to the over-accumulation of lipids in the tumor microenvironment (TME). Lipid reprogramming plays an essential role in the TME. Lipids are closely linked to several immune cells and their phenotypic transformation. The reprogramming of tumor lipid metabolism further promotes immunosuppression, which leads to immune escape. This event significantly affects the progression, treatment, recurrence, and metastasis of cancer. Therefore, the present review describes alterations in the lipid metabolism of immune cells in the TME and examines the connection between lipid metabolism and immunotherapy.

Abstract The gradual aging of the global population has led to a surge in age-related diseases, which seriously threaten human health. Researchers are dedicated to understanding and coping with the complexities of aging, constantly uncovering the substances and mechanism related to aging like chronic low-grade inflammation. The NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3), a key regulator of the innate immune response, recognizes molecular patterns associated with pathogens and injury, initiating an intrinsic inflammatory immune response. Dysfunctional NLRP3 is linked to the onset of related diseases, particularly in the context of aging. Therefore, a profound comprehension of the regulatory mechanisms of the NLRP3 inflammasome in aging-related diseases holds the potential to enhance treatment strategies for these conditions. In this article, we review the significance of the NLRP3 inflammasome in the initiation and progression of diverse aging-related diseases. Furthermore, we explore preventive and therapeutic strategies for aging and related diseases by manipulating the NLRP3 inflammasome, along with its upstream and downstream mechanisms.

Aiming at the current problem of insufficient security in clustering data collection and publication, in order to protect user privacy and improve data quality in clustering data, a privacy protection method for K-Modes clustering data collection and publication was proposed without trusted third parties based on the shuffled differential privacy model.K-Modes clustering data collection algorithm was used to sample the user data and add noise, and then the initial order of the sampled data was disturbed by filling in the value domain random arrangement publishing algorithm.The malicious attacker couldn’t identify the target user according to the relationship between the user and the data, and then to reduce the interference of noise as much as possible a new centroid was calculated by cyclic iteration to complete the clustering.Finally, the privacy, feasibility and complexity of the above three methods were analyzed from the theoretical level, and the accuracy and entropy of the three real data sets were compared with the authoritative similar algorithms KM, DPLM and LDPKM in recent years to verify the effectiveness of the proposed model.The experimental results show that the privacy protection and data quality of the proposed method are superior to the current similar algorithms.

Abstract. Background:. Liver cancer is largely resistant to chemotherapy. This study aimed to identify the effective chemotherapeutics for β-catenin-activated liver cancer which is caused by gain-of-function mutation of catenin beta 1 (CTNNB1), the most frequently altered proto-oncogene in hepatic neoplasms. Methods:. Constitutive β-catenin-activated mouse embryonic fibroblasts (MEFs) were established by deleting exon 3 (β-cateninΔ(ex3)/+), the most common mutation site in CTNNB1 gene. A screening of 12 widely used chemotherapy drugs was conducted for the ones that selectively inhibited β-cateninΔ(ex3)/+ but not for wild-type MEFs. Untargeted metabolomics was carried out to examine the alterations of metabolites in nucleotide synthesis. The efficacy and selectivity of methotrexate (MTX) on β-catenin-activated human liver cancer cells were determined in vitro. Immuno-deficient nude mice subcutaneously inoculated with β-catenin wild-type or mutant liver cancer cells and hepatitis B virus (HBV); β-cateninlox(ex3)/+ mice were used, respectively, to evaluate the efficacy of MTX in the treatment of β-catenin mutant liver cancer. Results:. MTX was identified and validated as a preferential agent against the proliferation and tumor formation of β-catenin-activated cells. Boosted nucleotide synthesis was the major metabolic aberration in β-catenin-active cells, and this alteration was also the target of MTX. Moreover, MTX abrogated hepatocarcinogenesis of HBV; β-cateninlox(ex3)/+ mice, which stimulated concurrent Ctnnb1-activated mutation and HBV infection in liver cancer. Conclusion:. MTX is a promising chemotherapeutic agent for β-catenin hyperactive liver cancer. Since repurposing MTX has the advantages of lower risk, shorter timelines, and less investment in drug discovery and development, a clinical trial is warranted to test its efficacy in the treatment of β-catenin mutant liver cancer.

Abstract Background N6-methyladenosine (m6A) methylation has become an active research area in viral infection, while little bibliometric analysis has been performed. In this study, we aim to visualize hotspots and trends using bibliometric analysis to provide a comprehensive and objective overview of the current research dynamics in this field. Methods The data related to m6A methylation in viral infection were obtained through the Web of Science Core Collection form 2000 to 2022. To reduce bias, the literature search was conducted on December 1, 2022. Bibliometric and visual analyzes were performed using CiteSpace and Bibliometrix package. After screening, 319 qualified records were retrieved. Results These publications mainly came from 28 countries led by China and the United States (the US), with the US ranking highest in terms of total link strength.The most common keywords were m6A, COVID-19, epitranscriptomics, METTL3, hepatitis B virus, innate immunity and human immunodeficiency virus 1. The thematic map showed that METTL3, plant viruses, cancer progression and type I interferon (IFN-I) reflected a good development trend and might become a research hotspot in the future, while post-transcriptional modification, as an emerging or declining theme, might not develop well. Conclusions In conclusion, m6A methylation in viral infection is an increasingly important topic in articles. METTL3, plant viruses, cancer progression and IFN-I may still be research hotspots and trends in the future.

Abstract To present our experience with laparoscopic ureteroneocystostomy with bladder flap (LUCBF) for treating benign ureteral stenosis and evaluate its feasibility and efficacy. The clinical data of 27 patients with benign ureteral stenosis who underwent LUCBF were retrospectively analyzed. After identification and excision of the ureteral stenosis segment, the healthy ureteral stump was dissected and incised longitudinally. A U-shaped or spiral bladder flap was harvested from the anterolateral bladder wall for ureteroplasty. All patients underwent LUCBF successfully, including 14 patients were combined with psoas hitch technique, between 90 and 220 min (median, 155 min). The median length of ureteral defect was 6 cm (range, 5–17 cm). The median blood loss was 40 ml (20–150 ml). The median indwelling time of double-J stent was 8 weeks (range, 4–8 weeks). Five patients (10.6%) suffered postoperative complications during the follow-up period (range, 12–48 months), including fever, hematuria, urinary tract infection and recurrent stenosis. The success rate was 96.3% (26/27). Patients with long ureter defects had longer operative time and more blood loss than short ureter defects. LUCBF was a safe and feasible technique for benign ureteral stenosis. Long ureter defect was related to longer operative time and more blood loss.

Recycling aged asphalt pavement has become increasingly important due to its environmental and economic advantages. Asphalt, serving as the binding agent for aggregates, plays a crucial role in pavement integrity. The deterioration of asphalt binder properties upon aging poses a significant challenge to asphalt pavement recycling. Consequently, various rejuvenators have been developed to restore aged asphalt binder properties and facilitate pavement reclamation. Waste cooking oil (WCO) is a widely used rejuvenator that mitigates the high viscosity and brittleness of aged asphalt, preventing cracking. WCO consists of triglycerides (TG) and free fatty acids (FFA), each with distinct molecular structures. In this study, molecular dynamics simulations were employed to investigate the individual effects of 10 wt.% TG and FFA on the viscosity, self-diffusion, and microstructure of aged asphalt at 1 atm and 404 K. The results demonstrate that both TG and FFA can reduce the viscosity of aged asphalt, albeit through different mechanisms. TG and FFA, characterized by high molecular mobility when dispersed in aged asphalt, enhance its mobility and reduce its viscosity. Additionally, TG effectively disrupts preferential interactions among asphaltenes, preventing their self-aggregation. In contrast, FFA has a limited impact on reducing these interactions. Furthermore, the study delves into the entanglement behaviors of FFA and TG with varying chain lengths within aged asphalt. Shorter chain lengths, as opposed to longer ones, exhibit a lower likelihood of entanglement with other asphalt molecules, resulting in increased molecular mobility and reduced asphalt viscosity. The fundamental insights gained from this research serve as a valuable reference for the application of waste cooking oil in the recycling of aged asphalt pavement. By shedding light on underlying molecular dynamics, this study contributes to the development of more effective and sustainable approaches to asphalt recycling.

Global ecosystems are facing challenges posed by warming and excessive carbon emissions. Urban areas significantly contribute to carbon emissions, highlighting the urgent need to improve their ability to sequester carbon. While prior studies have primarily examined the carbon sequestration benefits of single green or blue spaces, the combined impact of urban blue–green spaces (UBGSs) on carbon sequestration remains underexplored. Meanwhile, the rise of machine learning provides new possibilities for assessing this nonlinear relationship. We conducted a study in the Yangzhou urban area, collecting Landsat remote sensing data and net primary productivity (NPP) data at five-year intervals from 2001 to 2021. We applied the LightGBM-SHAP model to systematically analyze the correlation between UBGSs and NPP, extracting key landscape metrics. The results indicated that landscape metrics had varying impacts on NPP. At the patch and type level, the Percentage of Landscape was significantly positively correlated with NPP in green space, while the contiguity index and fractal dimension index favored carbon sequestration under certain conditions. The contribution of blue space was lower, with some indicators exhibiting negative correlations. At the landscape level, the contagion index and aggregation index of UBGS had positive effects on NPP, while the division index and landscape shape index were negatively correlated with NPP. The results enhance the understanding of the relationship between UBGS and carbon sequestration, and provide a reference for urban planning.

The inactivated COVID-19 vaccine has demonstrated high efficacy in the general population through extensive clinical and real-world studies. However, its effectiveness in immunocompromised individuals, particularly those living with HIV (PLWH), remains limited. In this study, 20 PLWH and 15 HIV-seronegative individuals were recruited to evaluate the immunogenicity of an inactivated COVID-19 vaccine in PLWH through a prospective cohort study. The median age of the 20 PLWH and 15 HIV-seronegative individuals was 42 years and 31 years, respectively. Of the PLWH, nine had been on ART for over five years. The median anti-SARS-CoV-2 S-RBD IgG antibody level on d224 was higher than that on d42 (8188.7 ng/mL vs. 3200.9 ng/mL, P < 0.05). Following COVID-19 infection, the antibody level increased to 29,872.5 ng/mL on dre+90, 12.19 times higher than that on d300. Compared with HIV-seronegative individuals, the antibody level in PLWH was lower on d210 (183.3 ng/mL vs. 509.3 ng/mL, P < 0.01), while there was no difference after d224. The symptoms of COVID-19 infection in PLWH were comparable to those in HIV-seronegative individuals. In this study, the inactivated COVID-19 vaccine demonstrated good immunogenicity in PLWH. The protective benefit of booster vaccinations for PLWH cannot be ignored. Implementing a booster vaccination policy for PLWH is an effective approach to providing better protection against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Background: Myocardial fibrosis post-myocardial infarction (MI) can induce maladaptive cardiac remodeling as well as heart failure. Although 20(S)-ginsenoside Rg3 (Rg3) has been applied to cardiovascular diseases, its efficacy and specific molecular mechanism in myocardial fibrosis are largely unknown. Herein, we aimed to explore whether TGFBR1 signaling was involved in Rg3's anti-fibrotic effect post-MI. Methods: Left anterior descending (LAD) coronary artery ligation-induced MI mice and TGF-β1-stimulated primary cardiac fibroblasts (CFs) were adopted. Echocardiography, hematoxlin-eosin and Masson staining, Western-blot and immunohistochemistry, CCK8 and Edu were used to study the effects of Rg3 on myocardial fibrosis and TGFBR1 signaling. The combination mechanism of Rg3 and TGFBR1 was explored by surface plasmon resonance imaging (SPRi). Moreover, myocardial Tgfbr1-deficient mice and TGFBR1 adenovirus were adopted to confirm the pharmacological mechanism of Rg3. Results: In vivo experiments, Rg3 ameliorated myocardial fibrosis and hypertrophy and enhanced cardiac function. Rg3-TGFBR1 had the 1.78 × 10−7 M equilibrium dissociation constant based on SPRi analysis, and Rg3 inhibited the activation of TGFBR1/Smads signaling dose-dependently. Cardiac-specific Tgfbr1 knockdown abolished Rg3's protection against myocardial fibrosis post-MI. In addition, Rg3 down-regulated the TGF-β1-mediated CFs growth together with collagen production in vitro through TGFBR1 signaling. Moreover, TGFBR1 adenovirus partially blocked the inhibitory effect of Rg3. Conclusion: Rg3 improves myocardial fibrosis and cardiac function through suppressing CFs proliferation along with collagen deposition by inactivation of TGFBR1 pathway.

In order to solve the problems of low thermal conductivity and easy liquid leakage of a stearic acid (SA), the composite phase change material(PCM) was prepared by adding boron nitride (BN) and expanded graphite (EG) to melted SA, and its thermal conductivity, crystal structure, chemical stability, thermal stability, cycle stability, leakage characteristics, heat storage/release characteristics, and temperature response characteristics were characterized. The results showed that the addition of BN and EG significantly improved the thermal conductivity of the material, and they efficiently adsorbed melted SA. The maximum load of SA was 76 wt. % and there was almost no liquid leakage. Moreover, the melting enthalpy and temperature were 154.20 J • g − 1 and 67.85°C, respectively. Compared with pure SA, the SA/BN/EG composite showed a lower melting temperature and a higher freezing temperature. In addition, when the mass fraction of BN and EG was 12 wt. %, the thermal conductivity of the composite was 6.349 W • m−1 • K−1, which was 18.619 times that of SA. More importantly, the composite showed good stability for 50 cycles of heating and cooling, and the SA / BN / EG-12 hardly decomposes below 200°C, which implies that the working performance of the composite PCM is relatively stable within the temperature range of 100°C. Therefore, the composite can exhibit excellent thermal stability in the field of building heating.

Abstract N6-methyladenosine(m6A), is the most abundant post-transcriptional modification of mRNA in biology. When the first nucleotide after the m7G cap is adenosine, it is methylated at the N6 position to form N6,2-O-dimethyladenosine (m6Am). m6Am is a reversible modification located at the first transcribed nucleotide, which is present in about 30% of cellular mRNAs, thus m6Am can have a significant impact on gene expression in the transcriptome. Phosphorylated CTD interaction factor 1(PCIF1), the unique and specific methyltransferase of m6Am, has been shown to affect mRNA stability, transcription, and translation. Several studies have shown that PCIF1 is clearly associated with tumor, viral, and endocrine diseases. Moreover, PCIF1 may be related to the tumor microenvironment, immune cell typing, and programmed cell death protein 1(PD-1) drug resistance. Here, we summarize the mechanism of PCIF1 involvement in mRNA modifications, and outline m6Am modifications and diseases in which PCIF1 is involved. We also summarized the role of PCIF1 in immune and immune checkpoint blockade(ICB) treatment, and predicted the possibility of PCIF1 as a biomarker and therapeutic target.

Background: In the last three years, COVID-19 has caused significant harm to both human health and economic stability. Analyzing the causes and mechanisms of COVID-19 has significant theoretical and practical implications for its prevention and mitigation. The role of meteorological factors in the transmission of COVID-19 is crucial, yet their relationship remains a subject of intense debate. Methods: To mitigate the issues arising from short time series, large study units, unrepresentative data and linear research methods in previous studies, this study used counties or districts with populations exceeding 100,000 or 500,000 as the study unit. The commencement of local outbreaks was determined by exceeding 100 cumulative confirmed cases. Pearson correlation analysis, generalized additive model (GAM) and distributed lag nonlinear model (DLNM) were used to analyze the relationship and lag effect between the daily new cases of COVID-19 and meteorological factors (temperature, relative humidity, solar radiation, surface pressure, precipitation, wind speed) across 440 counties or districts in seven countries of the Americas, spanning from January 1, 2020, to December 31, 2021. Results: The linear correlations between daily new cases and meteorological indicators such as air temperature, relative humidity and solar radiation were not significant. However, the non-linear correlations were significant. The turning points in the relationship for temperature, relative humidity and solar radiation were 5 °C and 23 °C, 74 % and 750 kJ/m2, respectively. Conclusion: The influence of meteorological factors on COVID-19 is non-linear. There are two thresholds in the relationship with temperature: 5 °C and 23 °C. Below 5 °C and above 23 °C, there is a positive correlation, while between 5 °C and 23 °C, the correlation is negative. Relative humidity and solar radiation show negative correlations, but there is a change in slope at about 74 % and 750 kJ/m2, respectively.

Refrigerant injection techniques are usually proposed to improve the performance and reliability of compressors when a single-screw compressor applied to an air-source heat pump works at low temperatures in winter. In this study, an experimental study was conducted to present the performance comparison of the single-screw compressor in the air-source heat pump under liquid, vapor, and liquid–vapor refrigerant injection at evaporation temperatures between −19 and −8 °C. The results indicate that, when the evaporation temperature decreases from −8 to −19 °C, the heating capacity under liquid–vapor and vapor injection increases by 16.7% and 12.7%, respectively, compared with that under liquid injection and that the COPh increment under liquid–vapor injection and vapor injection is, respectively, from 11.23% to 39.21% and from 17.18% to 30.82% compared with that under liquid injection. Therefore, the liquid–vapor injection method is conducive to the operation of the air-source heat pump at a lower ambient temperature. The experimental results can provide the basis for the future design of single-screw compressors applied to air-source heat pumps.

While fluorescent sensors have been developed for monitoring metal ions in health and diseases, they are limited by the requirement of an excitation light source that can lead to photobleaching and a high autofluorescence background. To address these issues, bioluminescence resonance energy transfer (BRET)-based protein or small molecule sensors have been developed; however, most of them are not highly selective nor generalizable to different metal ions. Taking advantage of the high selectivity and generalizability of DNAzymes, we report herein DNAzyme-based ratiometric sensors for Zn2+ based on BRET. The 8-17 DNAzyme was labeled with luciferase and Cy3. The proximity between luciferase and Cy3 permitted BRET when coelenterazine, the substrate for luciferase, was introduced. Adding samples containing Zn2+ resulted in a cleavage of the substrate strand, causing dehybridization of the DNAzyme construct, thus increasing the distance between Cy3 and luciferase and changing the BRET signals. Using these sensors, we detected Zn2+ in serum samples and achieved Zn2+ detection with a smartphone camera. Moreover, since the BRET pair is not the component that determines the selectivity of the sensors, this sensing platform has the potential to be adapted for the detection of other metal ions with other metal-dependent DNAzymes.

Abstract Hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HPSCC) is one of the most aggressive cancers and is notorious for its extremely poor prognosis. However, very few molecular biological studies have been performed. As a novel method of epigenetic gene modulation, N6-methyladenosine (m6A) RNA modification occurs in HPSCC. The expression of the m6A demethylase AlkB homolog 5 (ALKBH5) is frequently downregulated in human HPSCC. Furthermore, we found that ALKBH5 impaired cell proliferation by regulating human Toll-like receptor 2 (TLR2) in an m6A-dependent manner in HPSCC cells. ALKBH5 decreased TLR2 m6A modification, which could be recognized by the m6A readers IGF2BP2 and YTHDF1. IGF2BP2 facilitates TLR2 mRNA stability, whereas YTHDF1 promotes TLR2 mRNA translation. The current work uncovered a critical function of ALKBH5 in TLR2 regulation and provides a novel role for m6A demethylation of mRNA in HPSCC. The inhibition of m6A modification of ALKBH5 in HPSCC deserves further clinical investigation.

Abstract Background At present, the etiology of moyamoya disease is not clear, and it is necessary to explore the mechanism of its occurrence and development. Although some bulk sequencing data have previously revealed transcriptomic changes in Moyamoya disease, single-cell sequencing data has been lacking. Methods Two DSA(Digital Subtraction Angiography)-diagnosed patients with moyamoya disease were recruited between January 2021 and December 2021. Their peripheral blood samples were single-cell sequenced. CellRanger(10 x Genomics, version 3.0.1) was used to process the raw data, demultiplex cellular barcodes, map reads to the transcriptome, and dowm-sample reads(as required to generate normalized aggregate data across samples). There were 4 normal control samples, including two normal samples GSM5160432 and GSM5160434 of GSE168732, and two normal samples of GSE155698, namely GSM4710726 and GSM4710727. Weighted co-expression network analysis was used to explore the gene sets associated with moyamoya disease. GO analysis and KEGG analysis were used to explore gene enrichment pathways. Pseudo-time series analysis and cell interaction analysis were used to explore cell differentiation and cell interaction. Results For the first time, we present a peripheral blood single cell sequencing landscape of Moyamoya disease, revealing cellular heterogeneity and gene expression heterogeneity. In addition, by combining with WGCNA analysis in public database and taking intersection, the key genes in moyamoya disease were obtained. namely PTP4A1, SPINT2, CSTB, PLA2G16, GPX1, HN1, LGALS3BP, IFI6, NDRG1, GOLGA2, LGALS3. Moreover, pseudo-time series analysis and cell interaction analysis revealed the differentiation of immune cells and the relationship between immune cells in Moyamoya disease. Conclusions Our study can provide information for the diagnosis and treatment of moyamoya disease.

Accurate and rapid weather forecasting and climate modeling are universal goals in human development. While Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) remains the gold standard, it faces challenges like inherent atmospheric uncertainties and computational costs, especially in the post-Moore era. With the advent of deep learning, the field has been revolutionized through data-driven models. This paper reviews the key models and significant developments in data-driven weather forecasting and climate modeling. It provides an overview of these models, covering aspects such as dataset selection, model design, training process, computational acceleration, and prediction effectiveness. Data-driven models trained on reanalysis data can provide effective forecasts with an accuracy (ACC) greater than 0.6 for up to 15 days at a spatial resolution of 0.25°. These models outperform or match the most advanced NWP methods for 90% of variables, reducing forecast generation time from hours to seconds. Data-driven climate models can reliably simulate climate patterns for decades to 100 years, offering a magnitude of computational savings and competitive performance. Despite their advantages, data-driven methods have limitations, including poor interpretability, challenges in evaluating model uncertainty, and conservative predictions in extreme cases. Future research should focus on larger models, integrating more physical constraints, and enhancing evaluation methods.

Aluminum ammonium sulfate dodecahydrate (AASD) is a promising hydrated salt-type phase change material. However, its application is severely hindered by its large undercooling and low thermal conductivity. Herein, Al2O3 nanoparticles and xanthan gum are utilized as additives to prepare the modified AASD and improve its supercooling. The modified AASD is adsorbed into the porous modified expanded graphite to prepare a shape-stable composite phase change material (CPCM). Differential scanning calorimeter, thermal constant analyzer, X-ray diffractometer, and scanning electron microscopy are used to characterize the CPCM. Results show that the supercooling of CPCM decreases from 48 to 10 °C, and the latent heat and thermal conductivity of CPCM are 235.40 kJ/kg and 4.086 W/(m·K), respectively. Compared with pure AASD, the CPCM loses around 10.7 % latent heat, while the thermal conductivity is boosted for more than eight times. After 300 melting-solidification cycles, the latent heat of CPCM only decreases by 5.9 %. Besides, the 600-h corrosion test demonstrates that the 316 L stainless steel is suitable for manufacturing containers for the CPCM. In sum, the developed CPCM owns low supercooling, high thermal conductivity, high cycle stability, and good material compatibility, and hence has a great potential in the field of building and domestic heating.

IntroductionThe influence of sex on the prognosis of heart failure with preserved or intermediate ejection fraction (HFpEF and HFmrEF) remains uncertain. This study aimed to investigate whether sex differences impact the prognosis of patients diagnosed with HFpEF and HFmrEF.MethodsA comprehensive search across three databases (PubMed, the Cochrane Library, and Embase) was conducted to identify sex-related prognostic cohort studies focusing on HFpEF and HFmrEF. Risk estimates were synthesized using the random effects model. The analysis included 14 cohorts comprising 41,508 HFpEF patients (44.65% males) and 10,692 HFmrEF patients (61.79% males).ResultsAmong HFpEF patients, men exhibited significantly higher rates of all-cause mortality (13 studies; hazard ratio (HR): 1.24, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.15 to 1.33)) and cardiovascular disease mortality (5 studies; HR: 1.22, 95% CI: 1.14 to 1.31) compared to women. However, no significant difference was observed in HF admissions. For HFmrEF patients, men displayed notably higher all-cause mortality (HR: 1.21, 95% CI: 1.12 to 1.31) but no significant differences in cardiovascular mortality or HF admissions.DiscussionThese findings suggest that male patients diagnosed with HFpEF and HFmrEF may face a more unfavorable prognosis in terms of all-cause mortality. Variations were noted in cardiovascular mortality and HF admissions, indicating potential complexities in sex-related prognostic factors within these heart failure categories. In summary, male patients with HFpEF and HFmrEF may have a more unfavorable prognosis.

Background: Considering the declining situation of sustainability in global marine fisheries, World Trade Organization (WTO) members successfully concluded the Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies(AFS) after 21 years of negotiations in 2022. As an the integral part of these negotiations, special and differential treatment (SDT) provisions provide developing countries with special rights and developed countries with the possibility to treat developing countries more favorably than other WTO members. Objective: This study analyzed the role of SDT for fisheries subsidies in ensuring sustainable fishery governance by the rule of law, as well as the reflection of SDT under the AFS, to explore whether SDT can support sustainable fishery governance under the WTO framework. Methods: This study is primarily based on official data and critical legal studies and used normative analysis and historical analysis to expose the essence of the SDT issue in the AFS as a political game in the legal form. Results: The practical challenges in the implementation of SDT may affect the compliance willingness of member states. To overcome the obstacles, such as ambiguity and inefficiency, that impede the legalization process of sustainable global marine fishery governance, it is necessary to emphasize the value of SDT for the common interests of the WTO members in marine fisheries legislation. This will benefit the developing countries, especially the small island developing states, in the short term; and the common interests of developed and developing countries in the long term. Policy implications: SDT facilitated the consensus between the developing and developed countries on issues such as illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing subsidies and overfishing subsidies. However, current SDT practices have deviated from the original intention of the fairness and democratic approach of global marine fisheries governance, which should take into consideration the specific situation of developing countries.
