Abstract Counterintuitive temperature dependence of isospin flavor polarization has recently been found in twisted bilayer graphene, where unpolarized electrons in a Fermi liquid become a spin–valley polarized insulator upon heating. So far, the effect has been limited to v = +/−1 (one electron/hole per superlattice cell), leaving open questions such as whether it is a general property of symmetry-breaking electronic phases. Here, by studying a rhombohedral trilayer graphene/boron nitride moiré superlattice, we report that at v = −3 a resistive peak emerges at elevated temperatures or in parallel magnetic fields. Concomitantly, the Hall carrier density tends to reset at the integer filling, signaling spin–valley flavor symmetry breaking. These phenomena can also be observed at v = −1 and −2 when the displacement field is large enough to suppress correlated insulators at low temperatures. Our results greatly expand the scope for observing the counterintuitive temperature dependence of flavor polarization, i.e., the regimes proximal to symmetry-breaking phases where the flavor polarization order strongly fluctuates, encouraging more experimental and theoretical exploration of isospin flavor polarization dynamics in flat-band moiré systems.

Abstract Background Platelet is enriched with Circular RNAs (circRNAs), with circFAM13B rank among the 10 most abundant circRNAs in platelets. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the predictive value of platelet-derived circFAM13B for the antiplatelet responsiveness and efficacy of ticagrelor in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Methods Consecutive ACS patients treated with ticagrelor were enrolled, and the antiplatelet responsiveness of 3 days of ticagrelor maintenance treatment was assessed by measuring the adenosine diphosphate (ADP)-induced platelet inhibition rate (ADP%) using thromboelastography. The expression of circFAM13B in the patients’ platelets was analyzed by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. The correlation between circFAM13B expression and ticagrelor antiplatelet responsiveness, as well as the independent contribution of circFAM13B to the composite of adverse ischemic events during a follow-up period of at least 12 months was evaluated. Results A total of 129 eligible ACS patients treated with ticagrelor were enrolled in the study. A negative correlation was found between the expression of circFAM13B and the ADP% value (r = -0.41, P 1.05 with clinical risk factors could effectively predict the risk of adverse ischemic events (AUC = 0.81, 95% CI: 0.69 to 0.92, P 1.05 had a significantly higher risk of adverse ischemic events compared to those with circFAM13B ≤ 1.05 (P = 0.003). Multivariate logistic hazard analysis identified circFAM13B > 1.05 as an independent risk factor for adverse ischemic events in in ticagrelor-treated ACS patients (adjusted OR: 5.60, 95% CI: 1.69–18.50; P = 0.005). Conclusions Platelet-derived circFAM13B could be utilized for predicting the antiplatelet responsiveness and efficacy of ticagrelor in patients with ACS.

One strain of Hanseniaspora uvarum YT-35 was screened from fermented sediment of wild cherry. Hanseniaspora uvarum YT-35 and commercial Saccharomyces cerevisiae were used as coculture for manufacture of fermented wild cherry beverage. The dynamics of microbial populations, reducing sugars and ethanol were analyzed at different stages of fermentation using single-strain fermentation with 2 strains of bacteria as a control. Meanwhile, the organic acids and volatile aromatic compounds of the fermented beverages were detected by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and headspace solid-phase microextraction/gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (HS-SPME/GC-MS). The results showed that H. uvarum YT-35 dominated in the pre-fermentation stage of co-culture. Compared with single fermentation with S. cerevisiae, the coculture fermentation resulted in lower ethanol content (3.51 g/L). Notably, HPLC results revealed that coculture fermented beverage reduced the yield of citric, malic and quinic acids and increased the yield of glacial acetic acid. HS-SPME/GC-MS results revealed that coculture fermented beverage produced more volatile compounds of esters, such as ethyl caproate, methyl benzoate and isoamyl octanoate and showed enhanced contents of ethyl laurate, ethyl octanoate, phenyl ethyl alcohol, benzyl alcohol, octanoic acid and lauric acid. Meanwhile, clustering analysis revealed that coculture fermentation were correlated with the greatest number of volatile aroma compounds in the fermented wild cherry beverage. This study provides scientific basis and theoretical guidance for the research of coculture strains with different metabolic potential in improving the quality of fruit juice fermented beverage.

System efficiency, power quality, and economic benefits have always been essential for the Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC based on a Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC). This paper proposes a low-switching-frequency MMC-UPFC operation scheme based on the carrier phase shift pulse width modulation (CPS-PWM), which can significantly reduce switching loss and improve system efficiency. However, in medium-voltage MMC applications, the number of sub-modules in the UPFC is usually small (less than 30) exacerbating the harmonic distortions in the MMC-UPFC and reducing the switching frequency further deteriorates harmonics and increases capacitor voltage ripple. Therefore, to address the increased capacitor voltage ripple caused by low switching frequency, this paper proposes a reasonable carrier ratio (FR) design method. Analyzing and suppressing the capacitor voltage ripple at low switching frequencies can maintain capacitor voltage stability while significantly reducing the switching frequency. To address the issue of increased harmonics due to low switching frequency and few sub-modules, this paper combines the FR design method with an active LLCL filter method. An improved genetic algorithm is used to establish an objective function related to switching frequency harmonics and total inductance value, which can suppress a large number of high-order harmonics remaining from the CPS-PWM scheme, reduce the total inductance value, and compare this method with the single L filtering scheme widely used in UPFC engineering planning. Simulation on PLECS software verifies the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract Two-dimensional electron gas systems (2DEGs) generated at the oxide interfaces that exhibit rich physics phenomena opened up an era for oxide-based electronics, photonics, and spintronics. The recent discovery of superconductivity plus the strong spin-orbital coupling naturally existing in the 2DEGs of KTaO3 (KTO) made KTO an exciting platform for the interplay of the electronic and spin degrees of freedom to create exotic physical properties. By directly placing KTO’s 2DEGs next to another strongly-correlated oxide with nontrivial topological nodes, we reveal the anomalous effects which were induced by the topological states in the electronic transport properties of the KTO’s 2DGEs, due to the electronic reconstruction caused by the proximity effect. This adds an additional prospect to the functions of KTO heterostructures.

Abstract Background This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of oral anticoagulants (OACs) in real-world elderly patients with comorbidities of stable coronary artery disease (SCAD) and atrial fibrillation (AF). Methods Elderly patients (aged ≥ 65 years old) diagnosed with SCAD and AF were consecutively recruited and grouped into patients with or without oral anticoagulant (OAC) treatment. Follow-up was performed for 5 years. Major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) were defined as a composite of all-cause death, nonfatal myocardial infarction (MI), nonfatal stroke, and systemic embolism. Major bleeding outcomes were defined as events that were type ≥ 3 based on the Bleeding Academic Research Consortium (BARC) criteria. The net clinical outcomes were defined as the combination of MACEs and bleeding of BARC type ≥ 3. Results A cohort of 832 eligible patients (78 ± 6.70 years) was included. Compared to the patients without OAC treatment (n = 531, 63.82%), the patients treated with OAC (n = 301, 36.18%) were much younger, had higher body mass index (BMI), and had lower prevalence of heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), renal insufficiency, and previous myocardial infarction. Background: This study explored the specific relationship between different lipid indicators and cognitive impairment and aimed to provide a reference for implementing targeted lipid regulation measures to prevent and alleviate cognitive impairment. Methods: We searched three databases (PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science) for literature related to hyperlipidaemia, lipid levels, and cognitive impairment, and used the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale to evaluate the quality of the identified literature. A meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.4, and the combined effect size ratio using a random-effects model (odds ratio [OR] and 95% confidence interval [CI]) was used to evaluate the association between dyslipidaemia and cognitive impairment. Results: Among initially identified 2247 papers, we ultimately included 18 studies involving a total of 758,074 patients. The results of the meta-analysis revealed that patients with hyperlipidaemia had a 1.23-fold higher risk of cognitive impairment than those with normal lipid levels (OR = 1.23, 95% CI: 1.04–1.47, p = 0.02). Further subgroup analysis showed that elevated total cholesterol (TC) levels increased the risk of cognitive impairment by 1.59-fold (OR = 1.59, 95% CI: 1.27–2.01, p < 0.0001) and were more significant in older or male patients. Moreover, elevated triglyceride levels were inversely correlated with cognitive disorders, whereas elevated low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels were unrelated to cognitive impairment risk. Conclusions: Dyslipidaemia was strongly associated with cognitive impairment, and elevated TC levels were a risk factor for cognitive impairment. Furthermore, the damaging effects of elevated TC levels on cognition were more pronounced in older and male populations.

Abstract Background Despite strong antiplatelet therapy with ticagrelor, serious ischemic events still occur in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). The predictability of platelet reactivity to the residual risk of ischemic events during ticagrelor treatment remains uncertain. Objectives We aimed to investigate the predictability of the thromboelastography (TEG)-measured adenosine disphosphate (ADP)-induced platelet inhibition rate (ADP%) to the ischemic events in ticagrelor-treated patients with ACS. Methods A cohort of ticagrelor-treated patients with ACS were consecutively recruited. ADP% was measured by TEG after 3 days of ticagrelor maintenance treatment. The primary ischemic event was defined as rehospitalization for unstable angina (UA) within 1 year, and the secondary ischemic event was a composite of the primary ischemic event plus all-cause death, nonfatal myocardial infarction (MI), stent thrombosis, stroke, and unplanned revascularization within 1 year. Results A total of 751 eligible patients with ACS were included in the analysis, with 336 patients randomly assigned to the derivation group and 415 to the validation group. The overall rates of primary and secondary ischemic events were 14.51% (n = 109) and 16.91% (n = 127), respectively. This research utilized Jintang navel oranges as the primary raw material, and employed two distinct yeast strains, Saccharomyces cerevisiae SC-125 and Angel yeast SY, for a dual fermentation approach. Employing single-strain fermentation as the control, this study aims to ascertain the physicochemical markers, alterations in organic acids and amino acids, alongside the antioxidant properties throughout the fermentation process, all within an optimized environment. The characterization of flavor compounds in the navel orange wines subjected to diverse yeast strains and mixed fermentation was conducted using headspace solid-phase microextraction coupled with gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (HP-SPME/GC-MS). This method facilitated the identification of flavor compound types and concentrations. Moreover, electronic sensory systems including electronic noses and electronic eyes were harnessed to discern distinctions among various navel orange wines. Through these techniques, the research aimed to elucidate the variances induced by different yeast strains during both individual and mixed fermentation processes, shedding light on their impacts on the ultimate quality of navel orange wines.

The fuel cell with a ten-channel serpentine flow field has a low operating pressure drop, which is conducive to extended test operations and stable use. According to numerical results of the ten-channel serpentine flow field fuel cell, the multi-channel flow field usually has poor mass transmission under the ribs, and the lower pressure drop is not favorable for drainage from the outlet. In this paper, an optimized flow field is developed to address these two disadvantages of the ten-channel fuel cell. As per numerical simulation, the optimized flow field improves the gas distribution in the reaction area, increases the gas flow between the adjacent ribs, improves the performance of PEMFC, and enhances the drainage effect. The optimized flow field can enhance water pipe performance, increase fuel cell durability, and decelerate aging rates. According to further experimental tests, the performance of the optimized flow field fuel cell was better than that of the ten-channel serpentine flow field at high current density, and the reflux design requires sufficient gas flow to ensure the full play of the superior performance.

BackgroundThe efficacy and safety of antithrombotic treatment with oral anticoagulants (OACs) in elderly patients with comorbidities of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and atrial fibrillation (AF) are unclear.MethodsA cohort of hospitalized elderly patients (≥65 years of age) diagnosed with ACS and AF and treated with oral antithrombotic agents were consecutively recruited. Follow-up was performed for at least 1 year. Major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) were defined as a composite of all-cause death, nonfatal myocardial infarction (MI), nonfatal stroke, and systemic embolism. The safety outcomes of bleeding were defined according to the Bleeding Academic Research Consortium (BARC) criteria.ResultsA cohort of 548 eligible patients (76 ± 6.6 years) was analyzed. Compared to the patients with OAC treatment (n = 184, 33.6%), patients treated without OAC (n = 364, 66.4%) were older, had a lower prevalence of persistent AF and unstable angina (UA), and more often presented with paroxysmal AF, acute myocardial infarction (AMI), stent implantation and dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT). Compared to the patients without OAC treatment (n = 364, 66.4%), patients treated with OAC (n = 184, 33.6%) had a lower risk of MACEs at both the 1-year (4.3 vs. 15.1%, adjusted HR: 0.34, 95% CI: 0.15–0.80, p = 0.014) and 5-year (17.5 vs. 48.4%, adjusted HR: 0.36, 95% CI: 0.19–0.67, p = 0.001) follow-up. No significant difference was observed for bleeding events of BARC ≥2 between the groups (8.0 vs. 9.0%, adjusted HR: 1.17, 95% CI: 0.58–2.34, p = 0.667). Compared with warfarin-treated patients, the non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulant-treated patients had lower risks of all-cause mortality (2.1 vs. 9.5%, HR: 0.18, 95% CI: 0.03–0.98, p = 0.047) and bleeding events of BARC ≥ 3 (2.1 vs. 4.8%, HR: 0.14, 95% CI: 0.02–1.10, p = 0.062).ConclusionsAntithrombotic therapy with OACs in elderly patients with ACS and AF was associated with a lower risk of ischemic events without an increase in bleeding events. In real-world practice, the clinical awareness of anticoagulation treatments in elderly patients with ACS and AF needs to be strengthened.

Construction of transportation infrastructure is a vital step in boosting economic and societal opportunities and often results in land use changes. In this study, we focus on the land use dynamics of the urban agglomeration around Hangzhou Bay, where the Qiantang River flows into the East China Sea. The Hangzhou Bay Bridge crosses the bay since 2008. We used Interrupted Time Series Analysis (ITSA) to analyze the influence of the bridge on the land use and land cover (LULC) time series of the surrounding areas and on socio-economic indicators. We applied the Random Forest method to classify Landsat imagery from 2000 to 2017, thus enabling us to quantify LULC changes before and after the construction of the Hangzhou Bay Bridge. Google Earth Engine (GEE) was used for data acquisition, pre-processing, and classification. The results showed that during the period from 2000 to 2017, impervious surface areas expanded rapidly at the expense of agricultural land, and this transformation continued even more rapidly after 2008. ITSA showed that the driver behind the impervious surface area expansion switched from residential and industrial area growth in 2000–2008, to exclusively infrastructure area growth in 2008–2017. The construction of the bridge accelerated the expansion of impervious surface in the joint area of the bridge-connected cities of Ningbo and Jiaxing. With the Hangzhou Bay Bridge connection, various socio-economic factors, including tourism, GDP, tertiary industry, real estate investment, and highway freight, increased rapidly. The outcomes of this research could contribute to policymaking and impact assessments for sustainable urban development and land management. The methods used in this study are universal and therefore can also be used to assess the effect of any notable event that may impact LULC change.

Paeonia ostii is a woody oil crop with potential value as an edible oil. With the aim of acquiring systematic knowledge of the development of P. ostii seeds, the oil content, biomass, and water content of the seeds were determined. Changes in the distribution of hydrogen protons in P. ostii seeds during follicle development were traced using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The formation of oil bodies in the endosperm and embryo was observed using transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Dynamic changes in oleic acid, linoleic acid, and α-linolenic acid contents were assessed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The magnetic resonance images showed that, during early follicle development [45–85 days after flowering (DAF)], a greater quantity of liquid mucus was present within the seeds, and seeds in the same follicle developed at different rates. At 95 to 115 DAF, proton density was distributed evenly in all areas of the seed. A small dark area appeared in the center of the seed, and mucus in the follicles and water in the pericarp disappeared gradually. TEM observations showed that at 45 DAF, a few oil bodies were scattered at the cell periphery in the endosperm, and oil bodies were more numerous in the embryo. With the progression of seed development, the number and size of oil bodies in the embryo and endosperm continued to increase. The fresh and dry mass of P. ostii seeds increased from 45 to 105 DAF, then decreased after 105 DAF. The moisture content decreased, whereas the oil content increased and attained 33.1% at seed maturity. The three predominant unsaturated fatty acids accumulated simultaneously and showed stages of initial accumulation (45–65 DAF) and rapid accumulation (65–105 DAF). The results suggest that 65 to 105 DAF is a critical period for unsaturated fatty acid accumulation in P. ostii seeds.

Purpose: Coronary artery disease (CAD) and atrial fibrillation (AF) often coexist and lead to a much higher risk of mortality in the elderly population. The aim of this study was to investigate whether the CHA2DS2-VASc score could predict the risk of death in elderly patients with CAD and AF.Methods: Hospitalized patients aged ≥65 years with a diagnosis of CAD and AF were recruited consecutively. Patients were divided into 5 groups according to the CHA2DS2-VASc score (≤2, =3, =4, =5, and ≥6). At least a 1-year follow-up was carried out for the assessment of all-cause death.Results: A total of 1,579 eligible patients were recruited, with 582 all-cause deaths (6.86 per 100 patient-years) occurring during a follow-up of at least 1 year. With the increase in the CHA2DS2-VASc score, the 1-year and 5-year survival rate decreased (96.4% vs. 95.7% vs. 94.0% vs. 86.5% vs. 85.7%, respectively, P < 0.001; 78.4% vs. 68.9% vs. 64.6% vs. 55.5% vs. 50.0%, respectively, P < 0.001). The characterization and bioactive properties of carotenoid produced by Gordonia rubripertincta GH-1 originating from Pixian Douban (PXDB), the Chinese traditional condiment, was investigated. The produced and purified yellow pigment was characterized by ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis), Fourier transformed infrared (FTIR), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS), and was identified as carotenoid lutein. Additionally, the bioactive activity of lutein from G. rubripertincta GH-1 was evaluated by measuring the free radical scavenging capacity in vitro and feeding zebrafish lutein through aqueous solution. The results showed that the carotenoid lutein had strong antioxidant capacity and a protective effect on zebrafish eye cells, which could inhibit the apoptosis of eye cells in a concentration dependent manner. The results suggested that carotenoid lutein from G. rubripertincta GH-1 could be utilized as a potential source of natural antioxidants or functional additives for food/pharmaceutical industries.

Neuropathic pain is a complex disease with high incidence. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and its activated P2X7 receptor are involved in the signal transmission of neuropathic pain. Gallic acid (3,4,5-trihydroxybenzoic acid) is a traditional Chinese medicine obtained from natural plants that exhibit anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and antitumor effects. However, the underlying mechanism for gallic acid in analgesia remains unknown. This study aims to reveal how gallic acid alleviates neuropathic pain behaviors in a rat model with chronic constriction injury (CCI). Real-time PCR, western blotting, double-label immunofluorescence, molecular docking, and whole-cell patch clamp technology were used to explore the therapeutic action of gallic acid on neuropathic pain. The results showed that after CCI rats were treated with gallic acid for 1 week, the mechanical withdrawal threshold and thermal withdrawal latency were increased, accompanied by inhibition of the upregulated expression of P2X7 and TNF-α at both mRNA and protein levels, and reduced NF-κB and phosphorylated-STAT3 in the dorsal root ganglia. At the same time, gallic acid significantly decreased the coexpression of P2X7 and glial fibrillary acidic protein in the dorsal root ganglia. In addition, gallic acid could suppress ATP-activated current in human embryonic kidney 293 (HEK293) cells transfected with the plasmid expressing P2X7 but had no effect on ATP activation current of P2X7-mutant plasmid (with the point mutation sequence of the key site where gallic acid binds to the P2X7 receptor). Therefore, our work suggests that gallic acid may alleviate neuropathic pain in CCI rats by inhibiting the P2X7 receptor and subsequent activation of the TNF-α/STAT3 signaling pathway.

Background. This study aimed to analyse the role of the HAS-BLED score with the addition of genotype bins for bleeding risk prediction in warfarin-treated patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Methods and Results. Consecutive patients with AF on initial warfarin treatment were recruited. For each patient, CYP2C9∗3 and VKORC1-1639 A/G genotyping was performed to create 3 genotype functional bins. The predictive values of the HAS-BLED score with or without the addition of genotype bins were compared. According to the carrier status of the genotype bins, the numbers of normal, sensitive, and highly sensitive responders among 526 patients were 64 (12.17%), 422 (80.23%), and 40 (7.60%), respectively. A highly sensitive response was independently associated with clinically relevant bleeding (HR: 3.85, 95% CI: 1.88–7.91, P=0.001) and major bleeding (HR:3.75, 95% CI: 1.17–11.97, P=0.03). With the addition of genotype bins, the performance of the HAS-BLED score for bleeding risk prediction was significantly improved (c-statistic from 0.60 to 0.64 for clinically relevant bleeding and from 0.64 to 0.70 for major bleeding, P

In this paper, a novel multiscale method is proposed for the study of heterogeneous tumor spheroid growth in vitro. The entire tumor spheroid is described by an ellipsoid-based model while nutrient and other environmental factors are treated as continua. The ellipsoid-based discrete component is capable of incorporating mechanical effects and deformability, while keeping a minimum set of free variables to describe complex shape variations. Moreover, our purely cell-based description of tumor avoids the complex mutual conversion between a cell-based model and continuum model within a tumor, such as force and mass transformation. This advantage makes it highly suitable for the study of tumor spheroids in vitro whose size are normally less than 800 $μ m$ in diameter. In addition, our numerical scheme provides two computational options depending on tumor size. For a small or medium tumor spheroid, a three-dimensional (3D) numerical model can be directly applied. For a large spheroid, we suggest the use of a 3D-adapted 2D cross section configuration, which has not yet been explored in the literature, as an alternative for the theoretical investigation to bridge the gap between the 2D and 3D models. Our model and its implementations have been validated and applied to various studies given in the paper. The simulation results fit corresponding in vitro experimental observations very well.

To systematically assess the effectiveness of acupuncture combined with rehabilitation therapy on limb functionality in athletes experiencing muscle spasm post-spinal cord injury (SCI). Methods: We conducted a comprehensive search in PubMed, Cochrane Library, CNKI, VIP, and Wanfang databases up to October 2018 for clinical randomized controlled trials examining the combination of acupuncture and rehabilitation therapy for muscle spasm following SCI. A meta-analysis of the collected data was performed using RevMan 5.3 software, focusing on outcomes relevant to athletic rehabilitation. Results: Eleven studies, all conducted in China involving 715 participants, were included. The meta-analysis revealed significant benefits of the combined treatment approach. The experimental group exhibited a higher clinical response rate than the control group [MD = 5.02, 95% CI (3.05, 8.28), Z=6.34, P<0.001]. Improvements were also noted in the clinical spasticity index score [MD= -3.09, 95%CI (-4.51, -1.67), Z=4.28, P<0.001] and Ashworth score [MD= -0.84, 95% CI (-1.01, -0.67), Z=9.48, P<0.001], indicating better muscle spasm management. Additionally, improvements in the Barthel index suggested enhanced daily functioning [MD = 10.41, 95% CI (8.74, 12.09), Z=12.19, P<0.001]. No adverse events were reported in either group. Conclusion: The findings suggest that acupuncture in conjunction with rehabilitation therapy significantly enhances limb function and reduces spasticity in athletes with SCI. The thermally-induced self-healing behavior of polymer coatings consists of two steps, i.e., gap closure and crack repair. In addition, the polymer coatings with thermally-induced self-healing capability are expected to show satisfied properties to ensure the application. Here, four epoxy coatings with dense irreversible Network I, dense reversible Network II based on a Diels-Alder (DA) reaction, loose irreversible Network III, as well as partially irreversible and partially reversible Network IV were prepared, respectively. The dense irreversible Network I showed an evident gap closure upon heating, while the crack still existed at the high temperature. The dense reversible Network II presented good self-healing upon direct heating at a high temperature of 150 °C, leading to the quick gap closure in 40 s and subsequent crack disappearance in 80 s. The loose irreversible Network III showed negligible crack variations upon heating, while the partially reversible and partially irreversible Network IV showed quick gap closure as well but only partial crack disappearance. Besides, the coating with the reversible Network II based on the DA reaction not only presented good self-healing capability but also possessed the satisfied mechanical properties and the best electrochemical corrosion property, ensuring its further exploitation and potential practical applications. Microsatellite evolution normally occurs in diploids. Until now, there has been a lack of direct experimental evidence for microsatellite evolution following allopolyploidization. In the present study, F1 hybrids and newly synthesized allopolyploids were derived from Triticum aestivum Chinese Spring × Secale cereale Jinzhou-heimai. One hundred and sixty-three wheat simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers were used to investigate the variation of wheat microsatellites after allopolyploidization and variation of the PCR products of 29 of the SSR markers was observed. Of these 29 SSR markers, 15 were unable to produce products from amphiploids. The other 14 SSR markers did produce products from parental wheat, F1 hybrids and amphiploids. However, the length of the products amplified from amphiploids was different from the length of the products amplified from parental wheat and F1 hybrids. Sequencing indicated that the length variation of the 14 microsatellites stemmed mainly from variation in the number of repeat units. The alteration of repeat units occurred in both perfect and compound repeats. In some compound SSR loci, one motif was observed to expand whereas another to contract. Almost all the microsatellite evolution observed in this study could be explained by the slipped-strand mispairing model. The results of this study seem to indicate that stress caused by allopolyploidization might be one of the factors that induce microsatellite evolution.
