Apple canker disease, also named as apple Valsa canker, is one of the most destructive diseases for apples (Malus domestica Borkh.). Cytospora/Valsa spp. are the dominant causal agent of this disease, but many studies have revealed that fungi from some other genus can also cause typical apple canker symptoms. In this study, we performed fungal pathogen isolation from cankered 'Fuji' apple barks. Six representative morphologically different fungi (Strain 1–6) were further subjected to ITS sequencing and evolutionary analysis. Molecular identification results revealed that Strains 1–6 are Cytospora mali, Fusarium cf. solani, Alternaria alternata, C. mali, Diplodia seriata and F. proliferatum, respectively. All these fungi have been reported to be causal agents of apple diseases. By inoculating fungal plugs onto trunks of 'Fuji' apple trees, the pathogenicity of the six fungi were accessed. Only the inoculations of the two C. mali strains (Strain 1 and Strain 4) and the A. alternata strain (Strain 3) resulted in typical apple canker symptoms in trunks. It is worth noting that Strain 1 caused much more severe canker symptoms and higher pathogenicity incidence than the other two fungi. A. alternata has been identified as a pathogen causing diseases on apple fruits and leaves. By further assessing its pathogenicity on apple fruits and leaves, we verified that it can also cause typical fruit rot and leaf spot symptoms. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on apple canker disease caused by A. alternata in China. Climate warming can lead to permafrost degradation, potentially resulting in slope failures such as retrogressive thaw slumps (RTSs). The formation of and changes in RTSs could exacerbate the degradation of permafrost and the environment in general. The mechanisms of RTS progression and the potential consequences on the analogous freeze–thaw cycle are not well understood, owing partly to necessitating field work under harsh conditions and with high costs. Here, we used multi-source remote sensing and field surveys to quantify the changes in an RTS on Eboling Mountain in the Qilian Mountain Range in west-central China. Based on optical remote sensing and SBAS-InSAR measurements, we analyzed the RTS evolution and the underlying drivers, combined with meteorological observations. The RTS expanded from 56 m2 in 2015 to 4294 m2 in 2022, growing at a rate of 1300 m2/a to its maximum in 2018 and then decreasing. Changes in temperature and precipitation play a dominant role in the evolution of the RTS, and the extreme weather in 2016 may also be a primary contributor to the accelerated growth, with an average deformation of −8.3 mm during the thawing period, which decreased slope stability. The RTS evolved more actively during the thawing and early freezing process, with earthquakes having potentially contributed further to RTS evolution. We report an underwater metastructure with excellent acoustic absorption that is constructed by perforating a helix structure into viscoelastic damping rubber. Finite element method results show that this metastructure can achieve the low frequency and broadband acoustic absorption below 1000 Hz. Waveform transformation, multiple scattering, and reflection energy dissipation mechanisms are the critical factors affecting the absorption performance. Different geometries and materials of the helix structure can adjust the acoustic absorption to a great extent. A leaf blight disease with an incidence level of about 50% was found on Robusta banana in Guangdong province of China in September 2020. The early symptom appeared as pale gray to black brown, irregular, small, necrotic lesions mainly on the top 3–5 leaves. Severely infected leaves were withered and necrotic. Two representative fungus strains, strain L1 and strain L2, were isolated from affected banana leaves, and morphological and molecular identification analysis confirmed that the two fungi were both Alternaria jacinthicola. Many Alternaria species have been reported to cause wilting, decay, leaf blight and leaf spots on plants and lead to serious economic losses in their production, including A. alternata, causing leaf blight and leaf sport diseases on banana. The Koch's postulates of A. jacinthicola causing the leaf blight disease was further fulfilled, which confirmed that it is the causal agent of this disease. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the effects of perioperative transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS) on postoperative pain management in patients undergoing thoracic surgery., Methods: In the prospective, randomized, controlled study, a total of 84 patients undergoing video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) were randomly allocated to the TEAS group (Group T) or control group (Group C). Patients in the Group T received TEAS at Neiguan (PC6) and Hegu (LI4) acupoints for 30 min before anesthesia induction and 30 min after thoracoscopic surgery. Patients in the Group C received the same placement of electrodes but without electrical stimulation. The numeric rating scale (NRS) pain score, remifentanil consumption, demand for rescue analgesics and incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV), patient satisfaction, and the levels of plasma β -endorphin (EP) and IL-6 were recorded., Results: Patients in the Group T had significantly lower NRS pain scores at 6 h, 12 h, 24 h, and 48 h after surgery than those in the Group C. Compared with Group C, patients in Group T had lower remifentanil consumption during operation, lower demand for rescue analgesics and lower rate of PONV within 24 h after surgery. Patients in Group T also had lower IL-6 content, higher β -EP content and higher satisfaction degree than those in the Group C., Conclusions: Perioperative TEAS significantly decreased postoperative pain and rescued analgesia requirements and the incidence of PONV in patients undergoing thoracoscopic surgery, with a higher patient satisfaction.
