Abstract

In a customer service system, dialogue summarization can boost service efficiency by automatically creating summaries for long spoken dialogues in which customers and agents try to address issues about specific topics. In this work, we focus on topic-oriented dialogue summarization, which generates highly abstractive summaries that preserve the main ideas from dialogues. In spoken dialogues, abundant dialogue noise and common semantics could obscure the underlying informative content, making the general topic modeling approaches difficult to apply. In addition, for customer service, role-specific information matters and is an indispensable part of a summary. To effectively perform topic modeling on dialogues and capture multi-role information, in this work we propose a novel topic-augmented two-stage dialogue summarizer (TDS) jointly with a saliency-aware neural topic model (SATM) for topic-oriented summarization of customer service dialogues. Abstract

Automatic chat summarization can help people quickly grasp important information from numerous chat messages. Unlike conventional documents, chat logs usually have fragmented and evolving topics. In addition, these logs contain a quantity of elliptical and interrogative sentences, which make the chat summarization highly context dependent. In this work, we propose a novel unsupervised framework called RankAE to perform chat summarization without employing manually labeled data. RankAE consists of a topic-oriented ranking strategy that selects topic utterances according to centrality and diversity simultaneously, as well as a denoising auto-encoder that is carefully designed to generate succinct but context-informative summaries based on the selected utterances. To evaluate the proposed method, we collect a large-scale dataset of chat logs from a customer service environment and build an annotated set only for model evaluation. 7. Cross-domain Aspect Category Transfer and Detection via Traceable Heterogeneous Graph Representation Learning

Abstract

Aspect category detection is an essential task for sentiment analysis and opinion mining. However, the cost of categorical data labeling, e.g., label the review aspect information for a large number of product domains, can be inevitable but unaffordable. In this study, we propose a novel problem, cross-domain aspect category transfer and detection, which faces three challenges: various feature spaces, different data distributions, and diverse output spaces. To address these problems, we propose an innovative solution, Traceable Heterogeneous Graph Representation Learning (THGRL). Unlike prior text-based aspect detection works, THGRL explores latent domain aspect category connections via massive user behavior information on a heterogeneous graph. Moreover, an innovative latent variable "Walker Tracer" is introduced to characterize the global semantic/aspect dependencies and capture the informative vertexes on the random walk paths. By using THGRL, we project different domains' feature spaces into a common one, while allowing data distributions and output spaces stay differently. 10. Long Short-Term Memory with Dynamic Skip Connections

Abstract

In recent years, long short-term memory (LSTM) has been successfully used to model sequential data of variable length. However, LSTM can still experience difficulty in capturing long-term dependencies. In this work, we tried to alleviate this problem by introducing a dynamic skip connection, which can learn to directly connect two dependent words. Since there is no dependency information in the training data, we propose a novel reinforcement learning-based method to model the dependency relationship and connect dependent words. The proposed model computes the recurrent transition functions based on the skip connections, which provides a dynamic skipping advantage over RNNs that always tackle entire sentences sequentially. Our experimental results on three natural language processing tasks demonstrate that the proposed method can achieve better performance than existing methods. In the number prediction experiment, the proposed model outperformed LSTM with respect to accuracy by nearly 20%.

Abstract

Background There are two main choices of administration route of recombinant human endostatin (Endostar) available and the treatment options of concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) have changed over time. The aim of this study was to observe the long‐term efficacy and safety of different administration routes of Endostar combined with CCRT. Methods Patients with unresectable stage III non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) from two phase II trials were included as two cohorts. Both were treated with Endostar combined with CCRT. Endostar was administrated by intravenous injection (7.5 mg/m2/day, seven days) in the IV arm and by continuous intravenous pumping (7.5 mg/m2/24 hours, 120 hours) in the CIV arm. Results A total of 48 patients were included in the IV arm and 67 patients in the CIV arm. The median progression‐free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), local recurrence‐free survival (LRFS) and distant metastasis‐free survival (DMFS) in the IV arm and CIV arm were 9.9 months versus 15.4 months (HR = 0.751, 95% CI 0.487–1.160, P = 0.200), 24.0 months versus 38.5 months (HR = 0.746, 95% CI 0.473–1.178, P = 0.209), 32.3 months versus 27.1 months (HR = 1.193, 95% CI 0.673–2.115, P = 0.546), 20.1 months versus 49.7 months (HR = 0.603, 95% CI 0.351–1.036, P = 0.067). The one, three, five‐year PFS in the IV arm and CIV arm was 45.8% versus 52.9%, 18.3% versus 31.4%, and 18.3% versus 27.7% and the one, three, five‐year OS was 81.2% versus 82.1%, 31.1% versus 50.3%, and 31.1% versus 41%, respectively. Incidence of hematological adverse reactions were numerically lower in the CIV arm than the IV arm. Conclusions Endostar delivered by CIV with CCRT may be a better option than IV in terms of potential survival and safety for unresectable stage III NSCLC. Key points Significant findings of the study Endostar delivered by continuous intravenous pumping might achieve more favorable survival over intravenous injection and reduce adverse hematological reactions in patients with unresectable stage III NSCLC treated with Endostar combined with CCRT.What this study adds The administration route of recombinant human endostatin is also one key factor for survival and safety to consider when treating patients with unresectable stage III NSCLC.

Abstract

Aim: To assess the efficacy and safety of EGFR inhibitors combined with (chemo)radiotherapy in unresectable, locally advanced non-small-cell lung cancer. Materials & methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis of prospective trials was performed. Results: Twenty-eight studies of 1640 patients were included. In patients harboring EGFR-sensitive mutations, the pooled objective response rate, 1-year overall survival rate and 1-year progression-free survival rate of EGFR-TKIs + (chemo)radiotherapy were 0.803, 0.766 and 0.554, respectively. Compared with chemoradiotherapy, the addition of EGFR inhibitors did not significantly increase the risk of grade ≥3 pneumonitis and esophagitis. Conclusion: EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitors combined with (chemo)radiotherapy are tolerable and the clinical benefit is promising, especially in patients with EGFR-sensitive mutations. This study aimed to assess and compare the efficacy and safety of the combination of brachytherapy with iodine-125 seeds and systemic chemotherapy versus systemic chemotherapy alone for synchronous extracranial oligometastatic NSCLC.Materials and Methods: After a systematic retrospective review of the case database between 1st Mar 2014 and 30th Mar 2018, data were obtained on 69 NSCLC patients with extracranial oligometastatic NSCLC. Among them, 32 patients received brachytherapy with iodine-125 seeds combined with systemic chemotherapy (group A), and the remaining 37 patients received chemotherapy alone (group B). The primary endpoint was overall survival (OS), and the secondary endpoints included progression-free survival (PFS), objective response rate (ORR), and complications.Results: The demographic and clinical characteristics were not significantly different between the groups (all p> 0.05). The overall 3-month ORR was significantly higher in group A (65.6% vs 37.8%, p=0.030) than in group B. With a median follow-up time of 23 months, the PFS and OS were 11.6 (95% CI: 7.0– 16.2) months vs 6.3 (95% CI: 3.4– 9.2) months (p=0.036) and 17.6 (95% CI: 13.9– 21.3) months vs 11.2 (95% CI: 7.7– 14.7) months (p=0.042) in groups A and B, respectively. Furthermore, in Cox regression analysis, local brachytherapy was an independent prognostic factor for both PFS (HR=0.416, 95% CI: 0.246– 0.702, p=0.001) and OS (HR=0.375, 95% CI: 0.216– 0.653, p=0.001). Little is known about TRT benefits in elderly populations. The aim of this study was to evaluate TRT effects on the prognosis of elderly patients with ES-SCLC.Patients and methods: This retrospective analysis reviewed the records of patients over 65 years of age with metastatic ES-SCLC treated between 2010 and 2016. Enrolled patients received standard chemotherapy regimens (etoposide plus cisplatin or carboplatin). A total of 93 eligible patients were subjected to propensity score matching, which led to 40 patients being assigned to the TRT group and 40 to the no thoracic radiotherapy (noTRT) group. The cohort of 80 patients (67 males) had the median age of 69 years (range, 65–85 years), with a median of 4 chemotherapy cycle (range, 1–8 cycles), and a median chest irradiation dose of 50 Gy (range, 30–60 Gy). We analyzed overall survival (OS), progression-free survival (PFS), and local recurrence-free survival (LRFS) as endpoints; survival rates were determined by the Kaplan–Meier method and compared across groups with log-rank tests. Multivariate prognostic analysis was performed with Cox regression modeling, and categorical variables were analyzed with Chi-square tests.Results: In all patients, the 1-year OS, PFS, and LRFS rates were 38.3%, 16%, and 17.9%, respectively. The TRT group had superior survival outcomes compared to the noTRT group: their 1-year OS, PFS, and LRFS rates were 55% vs. 25% (P < 0.001), 32.1% vs. 0% (P < 0.001), and 31% vs. 2.6% (P < 0.001), respectively. TRT did not increase the incidence of adverse reactions (P = 0.431).Conclusion: TRT can improve chest tumor control and survival time in elderly ES-SCLC patients.
