In the realm of human activity recognition (HAR), the integration of explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) emerges as a critical necessity to elucidate the decision-making processes of complex models, fostering transparency and trust. Traditional explanatory methods like Class Activation Mapping (CAM) and attention mechanisms, although effective in highlighting regions vital for decisions in various contexts, prove inadequate for HAR. This inadequacy stems from the inherently abstract nature of HAR data, rendering these explanations obscure. In contrast, state-of-th-art post-hoc interpretation techniques for time series can explain the model from other perspectives. However, this requires extra effort. It usually takes 10 to 20 seconds to generate an explanation. To overcome these challenges, we proposes a novel, model-agnostic framework that enhances both the interpretability and efficacy of HAR models through the strategic use of competitive data augmentation. This innovative approach does not rely on any particular model architecture, thereby broadening its applicability across various HAR models. By implementing competitive data augmentation, our framework provides intuitive and accessible explanations of model decisions, thereby significantly advancing the interpretability of HAR systems without compromising on performance.

Carbonaceous chondrites (CCs) are windows into the early Solar system and the histories of their parent bodies. Their infrared spectral signatures are powerful proxies for deciphering their composition and evolution history, but still present formidable challenges. In our study, we delved into the infrared spectra spanning 1-25 micron of 17 CCs, with distinct petrological characteristics and varying degrees of alteration. As aqueous alteration intensifies, the 3 micron-region absorption feature associated with OH-bearing minerals and water, and the 6 micron band indicative of water molecules, both grow in intensity. Simultaneously, their band centers shift towards shorter wavelengths. Moreover, as alteration progresses, a distinctive absorption feature emerges near 2.72 micron, resembling the OH absorption feature found in serpentine and saponite minerals. Comparison of aqueous alteration to laboratory-heated CCs suggests that the 3 micron region OH/H2O absorption feature differs between CC heated to less than or more than ~300C. The 12.4 micron/11.4 micron reflectance ratio diminishes, and the reflectance peak in the 9-14 micron range shifts towards shorter wavelengths. These changes are attributed to the transformation of anhydrous silicates into phyllosilicates. In the 15-25 micron region, the influence of thermal metamorphism becomes evident and results in the appearance of more spectral features, the single reflectance peak at 22.1 micron undergoes a transformation into two distinct peaks at 19 micron and 25 micron, which is primarily attributed to the increased presence of anhydrous silicates and olivine recrystallization. In recent years, deep learning has emerged as a potent tool across a multitude of domains, leading to a surge in research pertaining to its application in the wearable human activity recognition (WHAR) domain. Despite the rapid development, concerns have been raised about the lack of standardization and consistency in the procedures used for experimental model training, which may affect the reproducibility and reliability of research results. In this paper, we provide an exhaustive review of contemporary deep learning research in the field of WHAR and collate information pertaining to the training procedure employed in various studies. Our findings suggest that a major trend is the lack of detail provided by model training protocols. Besides, to gain a clearer understanding of the impact of missing descriptions, we utilize a control variables approach to assess the impact of key tunable components (e.g., optimization techniques and early stopping criteria) on the inter-subject generalization capabilities of HAR models. With insights from the analyses, we define a novel integrated training procedure tailored to the WHAR model. Empirical results derived using five well-known \ac{whar} benchmark datasets and three classical HAR model architectures demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed methodology: in particular, there is a significant improvement in macro F1 leave one subject out cross-validation performance.

The Stellar Abundances and Galactic Evolution Survey (SAGES) of the northern sky is a specifically-designed multi-band photometric survey aiming to provide reliable stellar parameters with accuracy comparable to those from low-resolution optical spectra. It was carried out with the 2.3-m Bok telescope of Steward Observatory and three other telescopes. The observations in the $u_s$ and $v_s$ passband produced over 36,092 frames of images in total, covering a sky area of $\sim9960$ degree$^2$. The median survey completeness of all observing fields for the two bands are of $u_{\rm s}=20.4$ mag and $v_s=20.3$ mag, respectively, while the limiting magnitudes with signal-to-noise ratio (S/N) of 100 are $u_s\sim17$ mag and $v_s\sim18$ mag, correspondingly. We combined our catalog with the data release 1 (DR1) of the first of Panoramic Survey Telescope And Rapid Response System (Pan-STARRS1, PS1) catalog, and obtained a total of 48,553,987 sources which have at least one photometric measurement in each of the SAGES $u_s$ and $v_s$ and PS1 $grizy$ passbands, which is the DR1 of SAGES and it will be released in our paper. We compare our $gri$ point-source photometry with those of PS1 and found an RMS scatter of $\sim2$% in difference of PS1 and SAGES for the same band. We estimated an internal photometric precision of SAGES to be on the order of $\sim1$%. Astrometric precision is better than $0^{\prime\prime}.2$ based on comparison with the DR1 of Gaia mission. The Wide Field Survey Telescope (WFST) is a dedicated photometric surveying facility being built jointly by the University of Science and Technology of China and the Purple Mountain Observatory. It is equipped with a 2.5-meter diameter primary mirror, an active optics system, and a mosaic CCD camera with 0.73 gigapixels on the primary focal plane for high-quality image capture over an FOV of 6.5-square-degree. It is anticipated that WFST will be set up at the Lenghu site in the summer of 2023 and begin to observe the northern sky in four optical bands (u, g, r, and i) with a range of cadences, from hourly/daily in the Deep High-Cadence Survey (DHS) program to semiweekly in the Wide-Field Survey (WFS) program, three months later. During a photometric night, a nominal 30 s exposure in the WFS program will reach a depth of 22.27, 23.32, 22.84, and 22.31 (AB magnitudes) in these four bands, respectively, allowing for the detection of a tremendous amount of transients in the low-z universe and a systematic investigation of the variability of Galactic and extragalactic objects. In the DHS program, intranight 90 s exposures as deep as 23 (u) and 24 mag (g), in combination with target of opportunity follow-ups, will provide a unique opportunity to explore energetic transients in demand for high sensitivities, including the electromagnetic counterparts of gravitational wave events, supernovae within a few hours of their explosions, tidal disruption events and fast, luminous optical transients even beyond a redshift of unity. In addition, the final 6-year co-added images, anticipated to reach g=25.8 mag in WFS or 1.5 mags deeper in DHS, will be of fundamental importance to general Galactic and extragalactic science. The Yarkovsky-O'Keefe-Radzievskii-Paddack (YORP) effect is a net torque caused by solar radiation directly reflected and thermally re-emitted from the surface of small asteroids and is considered to be crucial in their dynamical evolution. By long-term photometric observations of selected near-Earth asteroids, it's hoped to enlarge asteroid samples with a detected YORP effect to facilitate the development of a theoretical framework. Archived light-curve data are collected and photometric observations are made for (1685) Toro and (85989) 1999 JD6, which enables measurement of their YORP effect by inverting the light curve to fit observations from a convex shape model. For (1685) Toro, a YORP acceleration $\upsilon=(3.2\pm0.3)\times10^{-9}\ \rm{rad\cdot d^{-2}}(1\sigma\ error)$ is updated, which is consistent with previous YORP detection based on different light-curve data; for (85989) 1999 JD6, it is determined that the sidereal period is $7.667749\pm 0.000009$ h, the rotation pole direction locates is at $\lambda=232\pm 2^{\circ},\ \beta = -59\pm 1^{\circ}$, the acceleration is detected to be $\upsilon = (2.4\pm0.3)\times10^{-8}\ \rm{rad\cdot d^{-2}}(1\sigma\ error)$ and in addition to obtaining an excellent agreement between the observations and model. YORP should produce both spin-up and spin-down cases. However, including (85989) 1999 JD6, the $\rm{d}\omega/\rm{d}t$ values of eleven near-Earth asteroids are positive totally, which suggests that there is either a bias in the sample of YORP detections or a real feature needs to be explained., Comment: 21 pages, 10 figures

We investigated spin wave (SW) propagation and emission in thin film systems with strong interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) utilizing micromagnetic simulation. The effect of DMI on SW propagation is analogous to the flow of magnetic medium leading to the spin Doppler effect, and a spin-polarized current can enhance or suppress it. It is demonstrated that, for a Doppler velocity exceeding a critical value, a shock-wave-like emission of SWs with a cone-shape emerges from a magnetically irregular point as the cone apex. The cone angle is quantitatively determined by the DMI-induced Doppler velocity. Combining the interfacial DMI and the spin-polarized current, a constant SW emission by a static source is demonstrated, which provides a promising route to efficiently generate SWs with tunable frequency.

We report the photometry of six transits of the hot Jupiter HAT-P-29b obtained from 2013 October to 2015 January. We analyze the new light curves, in combination with the published photometric, and Doppler velocimetric, and spectroscopic measurements, finding an updated orbital ephemeris for the HAT-P-29 system, $T_{\rm C}[0]= 2456170.5494(15)\,[\rm{BJD_{TDB}}]$ and $P=5.723390(13) \,{\rm days}$. It is $17.63\,{\rm s}$ ($4.0\,\sigma$) longer than the previously published value, amounting to errors exceeding $2.5\,\rm{hrs}$ at the time of writing (on UTC 2018 June 1). The measured transit mid-times for HAT-P-29b show no compelling evidence of timing anomalies from a linear model, which rules out the presence of a perturbers with masses greater than $0.6$, $0.7$, $0.5$, and $0.4\,{\rm M_\oplus}$ near the $1:2$, $2:3$, $3:2$, and $2:1$ resonances with HAT-P-29b, respectively., Comment: Accepted for publication in AJ

The Kepler-9 system harbors three known transiting planets. The system holds significant interest for several reasons. First, the outer two planets exhibit a period ratio that is close to a 2:1 orbital commensurability, with attendant dynamical consequences. Second, both planets lie in the planetary mass "desert" that is generally associated with the rapid gas agglomeration phase of the core accretion process. Third, there exist attractive prospects for accurately measuring both the sky-projected stellar spin-orbit angles as well as the mutual orbital inclination between the planets in the system. Following the original \textit{Kepler} detection announcement in 2010, the initially reported orbital ephemerides for Kepler-9~b and c have degraded significantly, due to the limited time base-line of observations on which the discovery of the system rested. Here, we report new ground-based photometric observations and extensive dynamical modeling of the system. These efforts allow us to photometrically recover the transit of Kepler-9~b, and thereby greatly improve the predictions for upcoming transit mid-times. We present a detection of 89 candidates of ultra-diffuse galaxies (UDGs) in a 4.9 degree$^2$ field centered on the Hickson Compact Group 95 (HCG 95) using deep $g$- and $r$-band images taken with the Chinese Near Object Survey Telescope. This field contains one rich galaxy cluster (Abell 2588 at $z$=0.199) and two poor clusters (Pegasus I at $z$=0.013 and Pegasus II at $z$=0.040). The 89 candidates are likely associated with the two poor clusters, giving about 50 $-$ 60 true UDGs with a half-light radius $r_{\rm e} > 1.5$ kpc and a central surface brightness $\mu(g,0) > 24.0$ mag arcsec$^{-2}$. Deep $z$'-band images are available for 84 of the 89 galaxies from the Dark Energy Camera Legacy Survey (DECaLS), confirming that these galaxies have an extremely low central surface brightness. Moreover, our UDG candidates are spread over a wide range in $g-r$ color, and $\sim$26% are as blue as normal star-forming galaxies, which is suggestive of young UDGs that are still in formation. Interestingly, we find that one UDG linked with HCG 95 is a gas-rich galaxy with H I mass $1.1 \times 10^{9} M_{\odot}$ detected by the Very Large Array, and has a stellar mass of $M_\star \sim 1.8 \times 10^{8}$ $M_{\odot}$. This indicates that UDGs at least partially overlap with the population of nearly dark galaxies found in deep H I surveys. Our results show that the high abundance of blue UDGs in the HCG 95 field is favored by the environment of poor galaxy clusters residing in H I-rich large-scale structures., Comment: Published in ApJ

On 13 December 2012, Chang'e-2 conducted a successful flyby of the near-Earth asteroid 4179 Toutatis at a closest distance of 770 $\pm$ 120 meters from the asteroid's surface. The highest-resolution image, with a resolution of better than 3 meters, reveals new discoveries on the asteroid, e.g., a giant basin at the big end, a sharply perpendicular silhouette near the neck region, and direct evidence of boulders and regolith, which suggests that Toutatis may bear a rubble-pile structure. Toutatis' maximum physical length and width are (4.75 $\times$ 1.95 km) $\pm$10$\%$, respectively, and the direction of the +$z$ axis is estimated to be (250$\pm$5$^\circ$, 63$\pm$5$^\circ$) with respect to the J2000 ecliptic coordinate system. The bifurcated configuration is indicative of a contact binary origin for Toutatis, which is composed of two lobes (head and body). The research about asteroids attracts more and more attention recently, especially focusing on their physical structures, such as the spin axis, the rotation period and the shape. The long distance between Earth observers and asteroids makes it impossible to get the shape and other parameters of asteroids directly with the exception of the NEAs (Near Earth Asteroids) and others passed by some spacecrafts. Generally photometric measurement is still the main way to obtain the research data for asteroids now, i.e. the lightcurves recording the brightness and positions of asteroids. Supposing that the shape of the asteroid is a triaxial ellipsoid with a stable spinning status, a new method is present in this article to reconstruct the shape models of asteroids from the lightcurves, with the other physical parameters together. By applying a special curvature function, the method calculates the brightness integration on a unit sphere and Lebedev Quadrature is employed for the discretization. At last the method searches the optimal solution by Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm to minimize the residual of the brightness. By adopting this method not only related physical parameters of asteroids can be obtained at a reasonable accuracy, but also a simple shape model of Ellipsoid can be generated for reconstructing more sophisticated shape model further., Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures

The Damocloids are a group of unusual asteroids, recently enrolling a new member of 2010 EJ104. The dynamical evolution for the Damocloids may uncover a connection passage from the Main Belt, the Kuiper Belt and the scattered disk beyond. According to our simulations, two regions may be considered as possible origin of the Damocloids: the scattered disk, or a part of Oort cloud which will be perturbed to a transient region locating between 700 AU and 1000 AU. Based on the potential origin, the Damocloids can be classified into two types, with relation to their semi-major axes, and about 65.5% Damocloids is classified into type I which mainly originate from Oort cloud. A large nonlinear magneto-optical effect is observed in a non-centrosymmetric Fe/AlGaAs (001) heterostructure. This effect is a direct consequence of interference between second-harmonic optical waves of magnetic and crystallographic origin, generated at ferromagnetic Fe interface and bulk AlGaAs, respectively. The longitudinal nonlinear Kerr rotation is measured to be 1.6 degrees along the [1-10] hard axis, about two orders of magnitude stronger than the linear equivalent. The rotational second-harmonic signal shows large magnetic contrast along all the in-plane directions, demonstrating a high sensitivity to the magnetization of an anisotropic interface in the longitudinal geometry.

In the experimental tests of gravity, there have been considerable interests in the possibility of intermediate-range gravity. In this paper, we use the earth-satellite measurement of earth gravity, the lunar orbiter measurement of lunar gravity, and lunar laser ranging measurement to constrain the intermediate-range gravity from lambda=1.2*10^{7}m - 3.8*10^{8}m.
