Abstract Background Although the pathogenesis of glaucoma is not fully understood,an elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) is a major factor contributing to its development and progression. The aim of this study was to investigate the changes in the vessel densities of the macula and optic nerve head (ONH) after an acute elevation in the intraocular pressure (IOP) observed using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). Methods This was a prospective comparative study of subjects with narrow anterior chamber angles who underwent laser peripheral iridotomies (LPIs). The IOP was measured before and one hour after the LPI. The retinal vessel densities of the macula and ONH were measured using OCTA at the baseline and one hour after the LPI. Results A total of 64 eyes of 51 individuals were enrolled in this study, and 58 eyes of 43 individuals finally completed the study with a mean IOP rise of 10.5 ± 7.6 mmHg after the LPI. Based on the magnitude of the rise in the IOP, we divided the subjects into three groups: group A = IOP rise ≤10 mmHg, group B = 10 mmHg < IOP rise ≤20 mmHg, and group C = IOP rise > 20 mmHg. AIM: To compare the changes of dry eye symptoms and signs after femtosecond-assisted laser in situ keratomileusis(LASIK)and conventional LASIK by Keratograph 5M.METHODS: Sixty patients(120 eyes)who underwent corneal refractive surgery from June 2017 to November 2017 were enrolled. Thirty patients(60 eyes)underwent femtosecond-assisted laser LASIK and 30 patients(60 eyes)underwent conventional LASIK. All patients took examinations of Keratograph 5M dry eye related examinations,routine ophthalmological examinations and ocular surface disease index(OSDI)questionnaire before and 1wk, 1mo, 3mo and 6mo after surgery.RESULTS: One week after operation, the OSDI scores of two groups were significantly higher than pre-operation(PP>0.05). Noninvasive tear film break-up time(NI-BUT)in the conventional group was shorter 1wk, 1mo and 3mo after operation(PPPPCONCLUSION: Whether femtosecond-assisted or conventional LASIK will affect tear film stability and cause dry eye symptoms. The degree of influence decreases gradually with the time after operation, but femtosecond laser group can recover more quickly.

AIM: To evaluate a deep learning-assisted diagnostic system with an artificial intelligence for the detection of diabetic retinopathy(DR). METHODS:A total of 186 patients(372 eyes)with diabetes were recruited from January to July 2017. Discrepancies between manual grades and artificial intelligence results were sent to a reading center for arbitration. The sensitivity and specificity in the detection of DR were determined by comparison with artificial intelligence diagnostic system and experts human grading. RESULTS:Based on manual grades, the results as follows: non DR(NDR)in 42 eyes(11.3%), 330 eyes(88.7%)in different stages of DR. Among 330 DR eyes, there were mild non proliferative DR(NPDR)in 62 eyes(16.7%), moderate NPDR in 55 eyes(14.8%), severe NPDR in 155 eyes(41.7%), and proliferative DR(PDR)in 58 eyes(15.6%). Based on artificial intelligence diagnostic system, the results were as follows: NDR in 38 eyes(10.2%), PDR in 44 eyes(11.8%), others were NPDR. The sensitivity and specificity of artificial intelligence diagnostic system, compared with human expert grading, for the detection of any DR were 0.82 and 0.91, and the kappa value was 0.77(χ2=20.39, PCONCLUSION: This study shows that a deep learning-assisted diagnostic system with an artificial intelligence for grading diabetic retinopathy is a reliable alternative to diabetic retinopathy assessment, thus the use of this system may be a valuable tool in evaluating the DR.

AIM: To evaluate the relation between the position shift of intraocular lenses(IOL)and the change of refraction, after phacoemulcification with IOL implantation.METHODS: This study analyzed the anterior chamber depth, the change of the refraction, the distant vision and the near vision in 102 eyes of 102 patients at 1, 3, 6mo and 2a after phacoemulcification and monofocal one-piece foldable IOL implantation. The position shift of IOL detected by anterior segment optical coherence tomography(AS-OCT)was observed too. All of the patients were followed up for 24±3.8mo.RESULTS: The distant vision of the 102 eyes after cataract surgery and IOL implantation at 1, 3, 6mo and 2a were 0.78±0.13,0.75±0.14,0.72±0.12,0.72±0.10 respectively. The near vision were 0.38±0.12,0.41±0.13,0.46±0.12,0.47±0.10. The anterior chamber depth after surgerces were 3.75±0.16, 3.69±0.13, 3.61±0.12, 3.62±0.11mm. And the refractive degree was -0.47±0.26,-0.65±0.28,-0.93±0.24,-0.95±0.20. The position of the IOL was forward in the AS-OCT with time. The differences of the four indicators at 1, 3 and 6mo postoperatively were significant by multiple comparison(PCONCLUSION: The movement of IOL in eyes after cataract surgery leads to the reduction of the distance vision and the increase of the near vision, which were stabilized at 6mo after surgeries.

AIM: To observe the corneal refractive state stability time and changes of corneal refraction after excision of pterygium.METHODS:There were 46 cases(54 eyes), who had undergone excision of pterygium, randomly selected for corneal topography examination operated on the 3rd, 7th, 14th, 30th and 90th day after surgery. And statistic analysis was undertaken.RESULTS:Astigmatism after pterygium excision decreased significantly. Ks value, astigmatism in the 3rd postoperative day compared with that in other observation phases showed differences of statistical significance(Pth days compared with that in other observation phases showed differences of no statistical significance(P>0.05). CONCLUSION: Corneal refractive status is stable in 7 days afterpterygium excision surgery.

The purpose of this work is to elucidate the selective area growth of SiC nanorods on the electrospun nanofibers catalyzed by terbium metals, and further explore the optimal growth conditions and field emission properties in this case. X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy were used to investigate the growth mechanism. Test results indicated that our experimental process should be an organic whole and each aspect is indispensable. Furthermore, our work finished up with excellent field emission results, showing a rather low Eto of 8 V/μm and a large β value of 904. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
