Background: The impact of high body mass index (BMI) on embryo and pregnancy outcomes in women using the PPOS (progestin-primed ovarian stimulation) protocol during their first frozen embryo transfer (FET) cycles is not clear. This study is to investigate the impact of BMI on oocyte, embryo, and pregnancy outcomes in patients who underwent the PPOS protocol. Methods: This retrospective study included the first FET cycle of 22,392 patients following the PPOS protocol. The impact of BMI on oocyte and pregnancy outcomes was assessed across different BMI groups, using direct acyclic graph to determine covariates, followed by the application of multiple linear and logistic regressions to further validate this influence. Results: The high BMI groups exhibited a higher number of oocytes; however, no significant differences were observed in good-quality embryos, clinical pregnancy rate, and implantation rate. Nevertheless, the high BMI groups demonstrated a significantly elevated miscarriage rate (9.9% vs. 12.2% vs. 15.7% vs. 18.3%, P < 0.001), particularly in late miscarriages, resulting in lower live birth rates (LBR, 41.1% vs. 40.2% vs. 37.3% vs. 36.2%, P = 0.001). These findings were further confirmed through multiple liner and logistic regression analyses. Additionally, several maternal factors showed significant associations with adjusted odds ratios for early miscarriage. However, women with a BMI ≥ 24 who underwent hormone replacement cycle or hMG late stimulation protocol for endometrial preparation experienced an increased risk of late miscarriage. Conclusions: By utilizing the PPOS protocol, women with a high BMI exhibit comparable outcomes in terms of embryo and clinical pregnancies. However, an elevated BMI is associated with an increased risk of miscarriage, leading to a lower LBR. Prenatal vitamin D deficiency is widely reported and may affect perinatal outcomes. In this secondary analysis of the UK Pregnancies Better Eating and Activity Trial, we examined vitamin D status and its relationship with selected pregnancy outcomes in women with obesity (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2) from multi-ethnic inner-city settings in the UK. Determinants of vitamin D status at a mean of 17 ± 1 weeks' gestation were assessed using multivariable linear regression and reported as percent differences in serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D). Associations between 25(OH)D and clinical outcomes were examined using logistic regression. Among 1089 participants, 67 % had 25(OH)D < 50 nmol/l and 26 % had concentrations < 25 nmol/l. In fully adjusted models accounting for socio-demographic and anthropometric characteristics, 25(OH)D was lower among women of Black (% difference = −33; 95 % CI: −39, −27), Asian (% difference = −43; 95 % CI: −51, −35) and other non-White (% difference = −26; 95 % CI: −35, −14) ethnicity compared with women of White ethnicity (n 1086; P < 0·001 for all). In unadjusted analysis, risk of gestational diabetes was greater in women with 25(OH)D < 25 nmol/l compared with ≥ 50 nmol/l (OR = 1·58; 95 % CI: 1·09, 2·31), but the magnitude of effect estimates was attenuated in the multivariable model (OR = 1·33; 95 % CI: 0·88, 2·00). There were no associations between 25(OH)D and risk of preeclampsia, preterm birth or small for gestational age or large-for-gestational-age delivery. These findings demonstrate low 25(OH)D among pregnant women with obesity and highlight ethnic disparities in vitamin D status in the UK. Background: High BMI (Body Mass Index) is a significant factor impacting health, with a clear link to an increased risk of leukemia. Research on this topic is limited. Understanding the epidemiological trends of leukemia attributable to high BMI risk is crucial for disease prevention and patient support. Methods: We obtained the data from the Global Burden of Disease Study, analyzing the ASR (age-standardized rates), including ASDR (age-standardized death rate) and age-standardized disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) rate, and estimated annual percentage change (EAPC) by gender, age, country, and region from 1990 to 2019. Results: In 2019, deaths and DALYs have significantly increased to 21.73 thousand and 584.09 thousand. The global age-standardized death and DALYs rates have slightly increased over the past 30 years (EAPCs: 0.34 and 0.29). Among four common leukemia subtypes, only CML (Chronic Myeloid Leukemia) exhibited a significant decrease in ASDR and age-standardized DALYs rate, with EAPC of -1.74 and -1.52. AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia) showed the most pronounced upward trend in ASDR, with an EAPC of 1.34. These trends vary by gender, age, region, and national economic status. Older people have been at a significantly greater risk. Females globally have borne a higher burden. While males have shown an increasing trend. The regions experiencing the greatest growth in ASR were South Asia. The countries with the largest increases were Equatorial Guinea. However, It is worth noting that there may be variations among specific subtypes of leukemia. Regions with high Socio-demographic Index (SDI) have had the highest ASR, while low-middle SDI regions have shown the greatest increase in these rates. All ASRs values have been positively correlated with SDI, but there has been a turning point in medium to high SDI regions. Conclusions: Leukemia attributable to high BMI risk is gradually becoming a heavier burden globally. Different subtypes of leukemia have distinct temporal and regional patterns. This study's findings will provide information for analyzing the worldwide disease burden patterns and serve as a basis for disease prevention, developing suitable strategies for the modifiable risk factor. Purpose: Obesity is prevalent, with nearly one‐third of the world's population being classified as obese. In patients with high body mass index (BMI)/body mass undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA), there is an increase in strain placed on the implant fixation interfaces. As such, component fixation is a potential concern when performing TKA in the obese patient. To address the growing concerns around the longevity of implant fixation, some have advocated cementless over cemented fixation. However, there is no clear consensus on whether a cementless fixation has more favourable outcomes. The aim of this paper was to present a systematic review and meta‐analysis of the existing evidence to establish if cementless TKA has a lower rate of aseptic loosening in high BMI patients when compared to cemented TKA procedures. Methods: A systematic review was performed, and the following databases Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online (1946 to date), PubMed (1966 to date) and Excerpta Medica Database (1974 to date) were searched. All studies comparing cementless to cemented TKA in patients with BMI > 30 were considered. Meta‐analysis compared aseptic loosening and all‐cause revision between cemented and uncemented implant use in BMI > 30 patients. Results: The search returned 91 articles in total; after duplicates were removed, the yield was 44 studies. Of the remaining studies that were assessed, three studies met the inclusion criteria for meta‐analysis. The pooled odds ratio for all‐cause revisions was 0.17 (95%, 0.08–0.36) in favour of uncemented implants (p < 0.01). The pooled odds ratio for aseptic loosening was 0.15 (95% confidence interval, 0.02–0.90) in favour of uncemented implants (p = 0.04). Conclusions: Meta‐analysis demonstrated a significant decrease in all‐cause revisions and revisions for aseptic loosening when using uncemented fixation in high BMI patients when compared to the use of cemented implants. ObjectiveTo systematically evaluate the global burden and trends of low back pain(LBP) associated with high Body Mass Index (BMI) and project future trends up to 2050 using Bayesian Age-Period-Cohort (BAPC) model, providing scientific evidence for prioritizing global preventive actions.MethodsUtilizing data from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2021 study, this research analyzes the disease burden of low back pain linked to high BMI globally, with Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) as the primary metric. We examined trends by gender, age, and exposure rate using Estimated Annual Percentage Change (EAPC) and projected future trends with the BAPC model.ResultsIn 2021, high BMI-related low back pain accounted for 8,363,759 DALYs, with an age-standardized rate of 97.66 per 100,000 population and an EAPC of 1.14. The DALYs rate varied significantly by country, with the United States, Australia, and Eastern Europe experiencing the highest rates, all exceeding 225 per 100,000 population. The burden has increased globally, with notable rises in China, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Africa, where EAPCs surpassed 2.5. Regions with medium and high Socio-Demographic Index (SDI) showed the most substantial increases, with the DALY rate in high SDI areas rising from 118.84 to 161.80 per 100,000, and in medium SDI areas from 41.92 to 79.10 per 100,000. Throughout the period from 1990 to 2021, females consistently experienced a higher burden of high BMI-related low back pain than males, with their DALY rate increasing from 92.01 to 126.29 per 100,000. The impact of high BMI on low back pain intensified with age, peaking in the 70–74 age group at 294.13 per 100,000, and then declining to 196.43 per 100,000 in those aged 95 and above. The BAPC model projects that by 2050, the number of DALYs will reach 15,558,278, an increase of 7,806,121 from 2021.ConclusionFrom 1990 to 2021, the global burden of low back pain attributable to high BMI has intensified, particularly affecting females, younger elderly, and developed regions. With increasing global aging and obesity rates, the burden is expected to continue rising rapidly without sustained and effective targeted interventions.

Design: The study was a secondary analysis of Global Burden of Disease 2019 (GBD 2019) that analysed (using Joinpoint regression analysis) numbers and the age-standardised rate of mortality and disability-adjusted life years (DALY) of hBMI-induced diseases and their trends from 1990 to 2019 and in the final decade. Setting: GBD 2019 study data for BRI countries were categorised by country, age, gender and disease. Participants: GBD 2019 data were used to analyse DB-hBMI in BRI countries. Results: In 2019, China, India and Russia reported the highest mortality and DALY among BRI countries. From 1990 to 2019, the age-standardised DALY increased in Southeast Asia and South Asia, whereas many European countries saw declines. Notably, Bangladesh, Nepal and Vietnam showed the steepest increases, with average annual percentage change (AAPC) values of 4·42 %, 4·19 % and 4·28 %, respectively (all P  < 0·05). In contrast, Israel, Slovenia and Poland experienced significant reductions, with AAPC values of –1·70 %, –1·63 % and –1·58 %, respectively (all P  < 0·05). The most rapid increases among males were seen in Vietnam, Nepal and Bangladesh, while Jordan, Poland and Slovenia recorded the fastest declines among females. Across most BRI countries, the burden of diabetes and kidney diseases related to hBMI showed a significant uptrend. Uterine cancer (UC) is the most common gynecologic malignancy, and high body mass index (BMI) is a poor prognostic factor for UC. However, the associated burden has not been fully assessed, which is crucial for women's health management and the prevention and control of UC. Therefore, we utilized the Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD) 2019 to describe the global, regional, and national UC burden due to high BMI from 1990 to 2019. The data show that globally, women's high BMI exposure is increasing annually, with most regions having higher rates of high BMI exposure than the global average. In 2019, 36,486 [95% uncertainty interval (UI): 25,131 to 49,165] UC deaths were attributed to high BMI globally, accounting for 39.81% (95% UI: 27.64 to 52.67) of all UC deaths. The age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR) and age-standardized disability-adjusted life years (DALY) rate (ASDR) for high BMI-associated UC remained stable globally from 1990 to 2019, with significant differences across regions. Higher ASDR and ASMR were found in higher socio-demographic index (SDI) regions, and lower SDI regions had the fastest estimated annual percentage changes (EAPCs) for both rates. Objective: The objective of this review is to synthesize current evidence of the association between body mass index (BMI) categories and the risk of exacerbation in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)., Methods: A systematic search was conducted across 3 electronic databases: PubMed, Embase, and Scopus. Eligible studies must have reported on the association between BMI (either as continuous or categorical) and risk of COPD exacerbation, as defined according to recognized clinical criteria. Observational studies (cohort, case-control, cross-sectional) were eligible for inclusion. The Newcastle Ottawa Scale (NOS) was used to evaluate the methodological quality. Combined effect sizes were reported as relative risk (RR) and corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI)., Results: A total of 11 studies were included. Of them, 4 studies were prospective, 4 were retrospective cohorts in design, 2 were cross-sectional studies, and one study was a secondary data analysis from a randomized trial. Compared to patients with a normal BMI, underweight patients had an increased risk of COPD exacerbation (RR 1.90, 95% CI: 1.03, 3.48; N=7, I 2 =94.2%). Overweight and obese BMI status was associated with a similar risk of exacerbation., Conclusion: Our findings report that underweight, but not overweight or obese patients, have an increased risk of COPD exacerbation, compared to individuals with a normal BMI. This differential association emphasizes the need for nuanced investigations into the underlying mechanisms of the impact of BMI on the course of COPD. Background: The purpose of this study was to determine whether high BMI affect short-term clinical and radiologic outcomes of robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty (TKA) by comparing the clinical outcomes, radiologic outcomes and complications between high BMI and normal patients., Methods: We retrospectively compared the short-term clinical and radiological outcomes of 424 knees (408 patients). The patients were divided into four groups: BMI < 24.9 kg/m 2 (normal); BMI between 25.0 and 29.9 kg/m 2 (overweight); BMI between 30.0 and 34.9 kg/m 2 (obese class I) and BMI between 35.0 and 39.9 kg/m 2 (obese class II). Clinical and radiologic outcomes were evaluated., Results: There was no significant difference in radiologic outcomes between those groups ( p > .05). Background. A high body mass index (BMI) is associated with several cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and chronic kidney disease, cancers, and other selected health conditions. Objectives. To quantify the deaths and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) attributed to high BMI in persons aged ≥20 years in South Africa (SA) for 2000, 2006 and 2012. Methods. The comparative risk assessment (CRA) methodology was followed. Meta-regressions of the BMI mean and standard deviation from nine national surveys spanning 1998 - 2017 were conducted to provide estimates by age and sex for adults aged ≥20 years. Population attributable fractions were calculated for selected health outcomes using relative risks identified by the Global Burden of Disease Study (2017), and applied to deaths and DALY estimates from the second South African National Burden of Disease Study to estimate the burden attributed to high BMI in a customised Microsoft Excel workbook. Monte Carlo simulation-modelling techniques were used for the uncertainty analysis. BMI was assumed to follow a log-normal distribution, and the theoretical minimum value of BMI below which no risk was estimated was assumed to follow a uniform distribution from 20 kg/m2 to 25 kg/m2. Results. Between 2000 and 2012, mean BMI increased by 6% from 27.7 kg/m2 (95% confidence interval (CI) 27.6 - 27.9) to 29.4 kg/m2 (95% CI 29.3 - 29.5) for females, and by 3% from 23.9 kg/m2 (95% CI 23.7 - 24.1) to 24.6 kg/m2 (95% CI 24.5 - 24.8) for males. In 2012, high BMI caused 58 757 deaths (95% uncertainty interval (UI) 46 740 - 67 590) or 11.1% (95% UI 8.8 - 12.8) of all deaths, and 1.42 million DALYs (95% UI 1.15 - 1.61) or 6.9% (95% UI 5.6 - 7.8) of all DALYs. Over the study period, the burden in females was ~1.5 - 1.8 times higher than that in males. Type 2 diabetes mellitus became the leading cause of death attributable to high BMI in 2012 (n=12 382 deaths), followed by hypertensive heart disease (n=12 146), haemorrhagic stroke (n=9 141), ischaemic heart disease (n=7 499) and ischaemic stroke (n=4 044). The age-standardised attributable DALY rate per 100 000 population for males increased by 6.6% from 3 777 (95% UI 2 639 - 4 869) in 2000 to 4 026 (95% UI 2 831 - 5 115) in 2012, while it increased by 7.8% for females from 6 042 (95% UI 5 064 - 6 702) to 6 513 (95% UI 5 597 - 7 033). Conclusion. Average BMI increased between 2000 and 2012 and accounted for a growing proportion of total deaths and DALYs. There is a need to develop, implement and evaluate comprehensive interventions to achieve lasting change in the determinants and impact of overweight and obesity, particularly among women.

(1) Background: Excessive body weight is a global problem in the 21st century. Children and adolescents, in particular, are at risk. Recently, there has been an increasing interest in the relationship between aerobic capacity and body composition. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the association between the individual parameters of cardiopulmonary capacity obtained in cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) and selected parameters of body mass composition in high-BMI children and children over the 85th percentile according to the WHO growth reference. (2) Materials and Method: The research included 100 children of school-age (7–15 years) with an excessive BMI, i.e., over the 85th percentile as per the WHO Growth Reference (BMI percentile 95.21 ± 4.65; Z-score BMI: 2.07 ± 0.94). The study consisted of three parts: anthropometric measurements, measurement of body mass composition using a body composition analyzer (TANITA MC-780 S MA) using the bioimpedance method, and a cardiopulmonary exercise test on a pediatric cycle ergometer (Corival Pediatric, Lode BV) using the Godfrey protocol; (3) Results: The correlation between BMI and fat mass (FM) was very high (rho = 0.83; p = 0.00) with moderate body fat percentage (BF%) (rho = 0.48; p = 0.00). There was a relevant correlation between the amount of fat-free mass in total body mass and cardiopulmonary capacity expressed as the absolute aerobic capacity (VO2peak) (rho = 0.55; p = 0.00). (4) Conclusions: In the case of children and youth with higher BMI, there was a correlation between the amount of fat-free mass in total body mass and cardiopulmonary capacity in terms of absolute aerobic capacity. Material: The study included 60 volunteer healthy young women whose body mass index was higher than 24.9 (mean age: 16.75 ± 0.43 years, mean weight: 75.99±10.91 kg, mean body fat: 36.83 ± 6.1%, BMI: 29.56 ± 4.12). The portable stadiometer Seca-213 was used to determine the lengths of the study group. TANITA-Bc 545 N Innerscan Segmental Body Composition Analyzer, “Y-Balance Test was implemented to determine the dynamic balance values for the lower and upper extremities, Functional Movement Screen (FMS) test was used to determine functional movement capacity. To determine the number of heart beats during zumba exercises, Polar M430 Heart Rate Monitor was used and a total of 24 zumba exercise sessions were conducted from three days a week for eight weeks. Results: According to the findings of the study, during the 8-week zumba training program, it is seen that it provided statistically significant improvement in total body weight loss (p=.000), BMI parameter (p=.000), body fat % (p=.002), FMS values (p=.000) and lower an upper extremity dynamic balance parameters (p=.000). Conclusions: It was found that the eight-week zumba training program had positive effects body composition values, functional mobility assessment results and dynamic balance parameters of high school students with a high body mass index of 15-17 years of age.

Abstract Background Statistical data on burden of kidney cancer and the relavant risk factors are valuable for policy-making. This study aims to estimate kidney cancer deaths and high body-mass index (BMI) attributable to the deaths by gender and age group in China adults, compared with U.S. Methods We extracted kidney cancer data (1990–2017) about the age-standardized rates using the comparative risk assessment framework of the 2017 Global Burden of Disease study. We performed an age-period-cohort (APC) analysis to estimate trends of kidney cancer mortality attributable to high BMI. Results During 1990–2017, age-standardized mortality rate of kidney cancer was increasing in China but decreasing in U.S. The mortality attributable to high BMI in China showed a general increasing trend, while that in U.S. men was increasing and tended to be stable in women since 1995. APC analysis showed a similar pattern of age effect between China and U.S. adults, which substantially increased from 20 to 24 to 90–94 age group. Differently, the period effect rapidly increased in China than U.S. adults during 1990–2017. The cohort effect peaked in the earlier cohort born in 1902–1906 in China, and it declined consistently in U.S. with exception of 1902–1906 and 1907–1911 birth cohort. Conclusions The kidney cancer deaths attributable to high BMI, and period effect have been generally increasing in China adults, compared with U.S. adults in which the trend tends to be stable in recent years. The rapid aging may also intensify the increasing trend of kidney cancer death in China. Effective measures should be conducted on body weight control and care for kidney cancer prevention.

Background: Understanding the spatiotemporal trends of colorectal cancer (CRC) deaths caused by low physical activity (LPA) and high body mass index (BMI) is essential for the prevention and control of CRC. We assessed patterns of LPA and high BMI-induced CRC deaths from 1990 to 2019 at global, regional, and national levels.Methods: Data on CRC deaths due to LPA and high BMI was downloaded from the Global Burden of Disease 2019 Study. We calculated estimated annual percentage change (EAPC) to quantify spatiotemporal trends in the CRC age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR) due to LPA and high BMI.Results: In 2019, CRC deaths due to LPA and high BMI were estimated as 58.66 thousand and 85.88 thousand, and the corresponding ASMRs were 0.77/100,000 and 1.07/100,000, with EAPCs of−0.39 [95% confidence interval (CI):−0.49,−0.29] and 0.64[95% CI: 0.57, 0.71] from 1990 to 2019 respectively. Since 1990, the ASMR of CRC attributable to LPA and high BMI has been on the rise in many geographic regions, especially in low middle and middle sociodemographic index (SDI) regions. Thirteen countries had a significant downward trend in CRC ASMR attributed to LPA, with EAPCs < −1. And, only 4 countries had a significant downward trend in CRC ASMR attributable to high BMI, with EAPCs < −1. Countries with a higher baseline burden in 1990 and a higher SDI in 2019 had a faster decline in ASMR due to high BMI and LPA.Conclusions: The burden of CRC caused by LPA and high BMI is on the rise in many countries. Countries should adopt a series of measures to control the local prevalence of obesity and LPA in order to reduce disease burden, including CRC.

Background: High BMI (Body Mass Index) is a significant factor impacting health, with a clear link to an increased risk of leukemia. Research on this topic is limited. Understanding the epidemiological trends of leukemia attributable to high BMI risk is crucial for disease prevention and patient support., Methods: We obtained the data from the Global Burden of Disease Study, analyzing the ASR (age-standardized rates), including ASDR (age-standardized death rate) and age-standardized disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) rate, and estimated annual percentage change (EAPC) by gender, age, country, and region from 1990 to 2019., Results: In 2019, deaths and DALYs have significantly increased to 21.73 thousand and 584.09 thousand. The global age-standardized death and DALYs rates have slightly increased over the past 30 years (EAPCs: 0.34 and 0.29). Among four common leukemia subtypes, only CML (Chronic Myeloid Leukemia) exhibited a significant decrease in ASDR and age-standardized DALYs rate, with EAPC of -1.74 and -1.52. AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia) showed the most pronounced upward trend in ASDR, with an EAPC of 1.34. These trends vary by gender, age, region, and national economic status. Older people have been at a significantly greater risk. Females globally have borne a higher burden. While males have shown an increasing trend. The regions experiencing the greatest growth in ASR were South Asia. The countries with the largest increases were Equatorial Guinea. However, It is worth noting that there may be variations among specific subtypes of leukemia. Regions with high Socio-demographic Index (SDI) have had the highest ASR, while low-middle SDI regions have shown the greatest increase in these rates. All ASRs values have been positively correlated with SDI, but there has been a turning point in medium to high SDI regions., Conclusions: Leukemia attributable to high BMI risk is gradually becoming a heavier burden globally. Different subtypes of leukemia have distinct temporal and regional patterns. Objective: The aim of this study is to correlate the body mass index (BMI) in pregnancy with maternal and perinatal outcome. Method: The present study was conducted in 100 women attending antenatal outpatient department (OPD) from January 2015 to June 2016. The above women were placed in standard BMI categories and their obstetric and perinatal outcome variables were evaluated. Results: In this study we observed, increased rate of lower segment caesarian section (LSCS) (41.67%), hypothyroidism (12.5%), gestational diabetes mellitus (20.83%) and gestational hypertension (20.83%) with high BMI group compared to normal. Increased rate of anemia was observed with underweight group (56.25%). The rate of neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) admission was more (37.5%) in underweight group compared to normal (8.34%). Conclusion: High BMI is associated with increased incidence of hypothyroidism, gestational diabetes mellitus, gestational hypertension, instrumental delivery and caesarean delivery. There is a significant association of underweight BMI with anemia and low birth weight.

(1) Background: Excessive body weight is a global problem in the 21st century. Children and adolescents, in particular, are at risk. Recently, there has been an increasing interest in the relationship between aerobic capacity and body composition. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the association between the individual parameters of cardiopulmonary capacity obtained in cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) and selected parameters of body mass composition in high-BMI children and children over the 85th percentile according to the WHO growth reference. (2) Materials and Method: The research included 100 children of school-age (7–15 years) with an excessive BMI, i.e., over the 85th percentile as per the WHO Growth Reference (BMI percentile 95.21 ± 4.65; Z-score BMI: 2.07 ± 0.94). The study consisted of three parts: anthropometric measurements, measurement of body mass composition using a body composition analyzer (TANITA MC-780 S MA) using the bioimpedance method, and a cardiopulmonary exercise test on a pediatric cycle ergometer (Corival Pediatric, Lode BV) using the Godfrey protocol; (3) Results: The correlation between BMI and fat mass (FM) was very high (rho = 0.83; p = 0.00) with moderate body fat percentage (BF%) (rho = 0.48; p = 0.00). There was a relevant correlation between the amount of fat-free mass in total body mass and cardiopulmonary capacity expressed as the absolute aerobic capacity (VO2peak) (rho = 0.55; p = 0.00). (4) Conclusions: In the case of children and youth with higher BMI, there was a correlation between the amount of fat-free mass in total body mass and cardiopulmonary capacity in terms of absolute aerobic capacity.

Background: Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19) has spread worldwide. The present study aimed to characterize the clinical features and outcomes of imported COVID-19 patients with high body mass index (BMI) and the independent association of BMI with disease severity.Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, 455 imported COVID-19 patients were admitted and discharged in Zhejiang province by February 28, 2020. Epidemiological, demographic, clinical, laboratory, radiological, treatment, and outcome data were collected, analyzed and compared between patients with BMI ≥ 24and < 24.Results: A total of 268 patients had BMI < 24, and 187 patients had BMI ≥ 24. Those with high BMI were mostly men, had a smoking history, fever, cough, and sputum than those with BMI < 24. A large number of patients with BMI ≥ 24 were diagnosed as severe/critical types. Some biochemical indicators were significantly elevated in patients with BMI ≥ 24. Also, acute liver injury was the most common complication in these patients. The median days from illness onset to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 detection, duration of hospitalization, and days from illness onset to discharge were significantly longer in patients with BMI ≥ 24 than those with BMI < 24. High BMI, exposure to Wuhan, any coexisting medical condition, high temperature, C-reactive protein (CRP), and increased lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) were independent risk factors for severe/critical COVID-19. After adjusting for age, sex and above factors, BMI was still independently associated with progression to severe/critical illness (P = 0.0040). Hemoglobin, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), CRP, and serum creatinine (Scr) were independent risk factors associated with high BMI.Conclusions: Contrasted with the imported COVID-19 patients with BMI < 24, high proportion of COVID-19 patients with BMI ≥ 24 in our study, especially those with elevated CRP and LDH, developed to severe type, with longer hospitalization duration and anti-virus course. Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is frequently seen in the Western population. Laparoscopic anti-reflux surgery (LARS) is effective in managing this condition. Obesity is strongly associated with GERD, and with the rising rate of obesity, there is, therefore, a concurrently increasing frequency of LARS performed. We aim to review the outcomes of LARS in patients with obesity, including the recurrence of GERD symptoms and peri-operative complications. A systematic review and meta-analysis were performed for articles from June 1992 to June 2022. The literature was reviewed for outcomes of LARS in patients with obesity (BMI≥30). Eligibility criteria included specific BMI, study design, type of surgery, and outcomes. The recurrence of symptoms and peri-operative complications were assessed. Thirty-one studies were thoroughly reviewed. Nine studies (five retrospective and four prospective) were selected for meta-analysis using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) flow, which included 1,499 patients with obesity and 5,521 without. Laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication was the most common procedure performed. The recurrence of symptoms was significantly lower in patients without obesity (p=0.0001). There was no statistically significant difference between patients with and without obesity in peri-operative complications, re-intervention, and early return to theatres. A higher recurrence rate of GERD symptoms post-LARS was reported in patients with obesity. Further research is required to decrease such risks and propose different methods, such as weight loss prior to surgery or Roux-en-Y (R&Y) gastric bypass. Abstract Background The primary aim was to investigate if supervised exercise training during pregnancy could reduce postpartum weight retention (PPWR) three months after delivery in overweight and obese women. We also measured circulating markers of cardiometabolic health, body composition, blood pressure, and physical activity level. Methods This was a secondary analysis of a randomised controlled trial in which 91 women with BMI ≥ 28 kg/m2 were allocated 1:1 to an exercise program or a control group. Women in the exercise group were prescribed three weekly, supervised sessions of 35 min of moderate intensity walking/running followed by 25 min of resistance training. The control group received standard maternal care. Assessments were undertaken in early pregnancy, late pregnancy, and three months postpartum. PPWR was defined as postpartum body weight minus early pregnancy weight. Results Seventy women participated three months after delivery, and PPWR was −0.8 kg in the exercise group (n = 36) and −1.6 in the control group (n = 34) (95% CI, −1.83, 3.84, p = 0.54). Women in the exercise group had significantly lower circulating insulin concentration; 106.3 pmol/l compared to the control group; 141.4 pmol/l (95% CI, −62.78, −7.15, p = 0.01), and showed a tendency towards lower homeostatic measurement of insulin resistance (HOMA2-IR) (3.5 vs. 5.0, 95% CI, −2.89, 0.01, p = 0.05). No women in the exercise group compared to three women in the control group were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes postpartum (p = 0.19). Of the women in the exercise group, 46.4% reported of exercising regularly, compared to 25.0% in the control group (p = 0.16). Conclusions Offering supervised exercise training during pregnancy among overweight/obese women did not affect PPWR three months after delivery, but reduced circulating insulin levels. Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (BMSCs) are attractive candidates in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Growing evidence has suggested that a high body mass index (BMI) can affect the properties of BMSCs, resulting in a reduced quality of the cells. However, the results are not consistent. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the influences of high BMI on human BMSCs (hBMSCs). To avoid gender bias, BMSCs from females and males were studied independently. Finally, hBMSCs from 89 females and 152 males were separately divided into the normal BMI group (18.5 kg/m 2 ≤ BMI < 25 kg/m 2 ) and the high BMI group (BMI > 25 kg/m 2 ). The cells were analyzed for the colony-forming potential; proliferation capacity; in vitro adipogenic, osteogenic, and chondrogenic differentiation potentials; and the expression of 32 common surface antigens. The results showed that high BMI did not change the number of colonies at passage 1 in females and males. In contrast, significantly reduced colony numbers at passage 4 (P4) were found in both female and male donors with high BMI. The doubling time of hBMSCs was comparable between the normal and the high BMI groups of females and males. Furthermore, the results of trilineage differentiation did not differ between the different BMI groups of males. In females, the high and the normal BMI groups also showed similar adipogenic and chondrogenic differentiation, while osteogenic differentiation was significantly enhanced in the high-BMI group. Regarding the expression of surface antigens, the expressions of CD200 and SSEA4 on hBMSCs were reduced in the high-BMI group of females and males, respectively. Introduction Obesity is a complex health issue affecting millions worldwide, characterized by excessive body fat accumulation, often leading to various health complications. Bariatric surgeries are effective interventions for severe obesity, assisting patients in attaining substantial weight reduction and enhancing their overall well-being. This study aimed to assess obesity patterns and bariatric surgery prevalence in the Northern Borders region of Saudi Arabia to increase community knowledge and awareness about obesity and bariatric surgery. Methods This cross-sectional study included 386 residents in the Northern Borders region, Saudi Arabia. The participants completed a previously validated self-administered electronic questionnaire, and the confidentiality of the collected data was ensured. Results Nearly 58.3% of the participants (31-40 years), with a predominance of females, had a body mass index (BMI) >30, and 33.7% had undergone bariatric surgery. Most participants (92.5%) were aware that obesity is associated with significant medical issues, 98.2% appreciated that there is a surgical method to reduce weight, and 58.8% indicated that the procedure was not safe. Additionally, the majority of the respondents (57.0%) were not sure about the complications of weight-loss surgeries, and only 28.0% knew that surgeries for obesity and their complications may lead to death. Significant associations were found between age, education level, and BMI concerning the knowledge of obesity/bariatric surgery (p=0.003, 0.001, 0.002), respectively. However, gender and work status did not show such associations (p> 0.05). Conclusion Our study highlighted a lack of knowledge among the community regarding the safety, potential complications, and survival outcomes associated with obesity and bariatric surgery that could be due to ignorance and reluctance to pursue bariatric surgery to overcome morbid obesity. Eating disorders (ED) are among the top three most common debilitating illnesses in adolescent females, while high Body Mass Index (BMI) is one of the five leading modifiable risk factors for preventable disease burden. The high prevalence of eating and weight-related problems in adolescence is of great concern, particularly since this is a period of rapid growth and development. Here, we comment on the current evidence for the prevention of EDs and high BMI and the importance of assessing the cost-effectiveness of interventions that integrate the prevention of EDs and high BMI in this population. There is evidence that there are effective interventions targeted at children, adolescents and young adults that can reduce the prevalence of risk factors associated with the development of EDs and high BMI concurrently. However, optimal decision-making for the health of younger generations involves considering the value for money of these effective interventions. Further research investigating the cost-effectiveness of potent and sustainable integrated preventive interventions for EDs and high BMI will provide decision makers with the necessary information to inform investment choices.

Background: Overweight and obesity are considered major epidemic health problems in both developed and underdeveloped countries, as many studies showed a remarkable rise. One of the causes of dyslipidemia is obesity. Body mass index (BMI) correlates reasonably well with laboratory-based measures of adiposity for population studies, and is extremely practical in most clinical settings. Aim: The aim of the study is to evaluate the lipid profile of patients with normal BMI and high BMI. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study of 400 subjects attended the medical outpatient department (OPD) of a private medical college hospital at Salem from March 2010 to August 2011. The subjects were divided into two groups (200 in each group): (1) high BMI (BMI 25 and above) and (2) normal BMI (BMI less than 25). The laboratory parameters; cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and triglyceride (TG) were determined directly by using an automated chemistry analyzer. Statistical Analysis: The Student′s t-test was used for comparison between categorical variables, i.e. lipid profile, high-BMI and normal-BMI subjects at P ≤0.05. Results: The total cholesterol, LDL and very LDL cholesterol and the TGs are found to be relatively high among the subjects with high BMI when compared with normal BMI persons, and this difference was found to be statistically significant (P < 0.05), whereas HDL cholesterol had not shown any significant difference between the two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion: By analyzing the results of the study conducted, it was concluded that there was an increased risk of dyslipidemia among the high-BMI group compared with the normal-BMI people. Hence, a community-based education in this regard is of utmost importance.

Obesity and lower limb osteoarthritis (OA) are amongst the commonest conditions worldwide, with increasing burden on health systems. The relationship between the two is complex. Obesity is thought to be a risk factor for OA, and OA can hinder efforts to reduce weight. Total knee replacement (TKR) is a widely used and effective management for knee OA. However, high body mass index (BMI) can complicate the surgery, which leads to some surgeons denying this operation to patients above a certain BMI. Orthopaedic surgeons have an important part in helping patients lose weight in the process of preparing for their TKR. We review the effect of high BMI on developing symptomatic knee OA, the complication rate with high BMI and TKR and the obstacles to losing weight in the presence of OA and point to areas where the orthopaedic surgeon can find support for their patients during their journey to losing weight. Introduction: The global surge in high body mass index (BMI) and obesity has led to various health complications. While numerous studies have shown that obesity disrupts female fertility, the specific effects of obesity on the success rate of assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatments in Saudi women have been less explored. This study aimed to delve into this gap, especially focusing on the correlation between BMI, ovarian reserve parameters, and ART outcomes among Saudi women., Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out from January to August 2023, concentrating on Saudi women aged 18 and above who underwent ART treatments for infertility. A total of 1071 women participated, with 155 completing an online survey and 916 responding through a hard copy from several Saudi hospitals. The data encompassed demographics, medical history, anthropometric details, ovarian reserve parameters, and ART results. For the analysis, Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (IBM SPSS Statistics for Windows, IBM Corp., Version 28.0, Armonk, NY) was utilized, applying descriptive statistics, the Chi-square test, and a linear regression model to discern connections between BMI, participant characteristics, and ART outcomes. A p-value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant., Results: Most participants were aged 25-34 (406) years and held a bachelor's degree (707). Over half (560) received fertility treatments in the past, with 37.9% (406) having polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and 23.5% (252) with other fertility-impacting medical conditions. Interestingly, 62.1% (665) had not undergone any ART cycles. Of those who did, 51.6% (553) had clinical pregnancies leading to live births. About 23.8% (308) of those with clinical pregnancies faced miscarriages without successful live births. Furthermore, 17.6% (189) reported complications or side effects from past ART procedures, and 31.4% (336) were on ART-related medications or supplements. The linear regression highlighted that individuals with normal weight tended to undergo more ART cycles. However, those with a higher BMI exhibited increased chances of achieving clinical pregnancies and live births., Conclusion: The study underscores the crucial relationship between BMI and ART efficacy in Saudi women. The data reveals that BMI can significantly influence ART treatment outcomes, especially concerning the number of cycles, clinical pregnancies, and live births. Women were classified according to the mode of conception (IVF or unassisted) and according to pre-pregnancy BMI (high BMI (≥25 kg/m2) or low-normal BMI (<25 kg/m2)). The main outcome was SMM, a composite of serious complications using International Classification of Diseases, 10th revision (ICD-10) codes. Secondary outcomes were gestational hypertension, pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes and cesarean delivery. Adjusted risk ratios (aRR) with 95% CI were estimated using log binomial regression, adjusted for maternal age, parity, education, income and baseline maternal comorbidity.Main Results and the Role Of Chance: Of 114 409 pregnancies, 1596 (1.4%) were IVF conceptions. Overall, 41.2% of the sample had high BMI, which was similar in IVF and non-IVF groups. We observed 674 SMM events (rate: 5.9 per 1000 deliveries). IVF was associated with an increased risk of SMM (rate 11.3/1000; aRR 1.89, 95% CI: 1.06-3.39). High BMI was modestly associated with SMM (rate 7.0/1000; aRR 1.23, 95% CI: 1.04-1.45) There was no interaction between the two factors (P = 0.22). We noted supra-additive effects of high BMI and IVF on the risk of pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes, but not gestational hypertension or cesarean delivery.Limitations, Reasons For Caution: We were unable to assess outcomes according to reason for treatment. Type II error (beta ~25%) may affect our results.Wider Implications Of the Findings: Our results support previous data indicating a greater risk of SMM in IVF pregnancies, and among women with high BMI. However, these factors do not interact. Overweight and obese women who seek treatment with IVF should be counseled about pregnancy risks. Background: The primary aim was to investigate if supervised exercise training during pregnancy could reduce postpartum weight retention (PPWR) three months after delivery in overweight and obese women. We also measured circulating markers of cardiometabolic health, body composition, blood pressure, and physical activity level.Methods: This was a secondary analysis of a randomised controlled trial in which 91 women with BMI ≥ 28 kg/m2 were allocated 1:1 to an exercise program or a control group. Women in the exercise group were prescribed three weekly, supervised sessions of 35 min of moderate intensity walking/running followed by 25 min of resistance training. The control group received standard maternal care. Assessments were undertaken in early pregnancy, late pregnancy, and three months postpartum. PPWR was defined as postpartum body weight minus early pregnancy weight.Results: Seventy women participated three months after delivery, and PPWR was -0.8 kg in the exercise group (n = 36) and -1.6 in the control group (n = 34) (95% CI, -1.83, 3.84, p = 0.54). Women in the exercise group had significantly lower circulating insulin concentration; 106.3 pmol/l compared to the control group; 141.4 pmol/l (95% CI, -62.78, -7.15, p = 0.01), and showed a tendency towards lower homeostatic measurement of insulin resistance (HOMA2-IR) (3.5 vs. 5.0, 95% CI, -2.89, 0.01, p = 0.05). No women in the exercise group compared to three women in the control group were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes postpartum (p = 0.19). Of the women in the exercise group, 46.4% reported of exercising regularly, compared to 25.0% in the control group (p = 0.16).Conclusions: Offering supervised exercise training during pregnancy among overweight/obese women did not affect PPWR three months after delivery, but reduced circulating insulin levels. Health with disability is directly related not only to an individual's quality of life but also to national medical finance. This study focuses on trends in BMI and out-of-pocket (OOP) expenditure of both types of indirect cost exclusion and inclusion. Participants were women with disability (n = 3200) and women without disability (n = 53 082) among adults aged 19 and older from Korea Health Panel from 2009 to 2016. Women with disability had a higher BMI (23.9) than women without disability (22.7), and this time series trend was significant for 8 years ( P  < .0001). Annual OOP expenditures of both types were higher for women with disability than for women without disability ( P  < .0001): excluding indirect costs, $518.9 versus $649.4; Including indirect costs, $534.5 versus $681.8. The y-intercept of disability itself and slope of one unit of BMI for both types of annual OOP expenditure is significant ( P  < 0001): excluding indirect cost, $29.0 and $4.4; including indirect cost, $35.2 versus $4.6. In women with disability, annual OOP expenditure for both types were higher when they were physically inactive ( P  < .05): excluding indirect cost, $714.1 versus $823.1; including indirect cost, $746.2 versus $880.0. When physical inactivity and overweight and obesity interacted, it increased more than normal weight in dose response manner ( P  < .05): excluding indirect costs, $799.2 < $800.3 < $886.1; Including indirect costs, $860.2 < $845.9 < $927.5. These results suggest that women with disability are in relatively poor health. It is proposed that inequality of BMI for women with disability can be developed as an agenda from health policy.

Background: Overweight and obesity are considered major epidemic health problems in both developed and underdeveloped countries, as many studies showed a remarkable rise. One of the causes of dyslipidemia is obesity. Body mass index (BMI) correlates reasonably well with laboratory-based measures of adiposity for population studies, and is extremely practical in most clinical settings. Aim: The aim of the study is to evaluate the lipid profile of patients with normal BMI and high BMI. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study of 400 subjects attended the medical outpatient department (OPD) of a private medical college hospital at Salem from March 2010 to August 2011. The subjects were divided into two groups (200 in each group): (1) high BMI (BMI 25 and above) and (2) normal BMI (BMI less than 25). The laboratory parameters; cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and triglyceride (TG) were determined directly by using an automated chemistry analyzer. Statistical Analysis: The Student's t-test was used for comparison between categorical variables, i.e. lipid profile, high-BMI and normal-BMI subjects at P =0.05. Results: The total cholesterol, LDL and very LDL cholesterol and the TGs are found to be relatively high among the subjects with high BMI when compared with normal BMI persons, and this difference was found to be statistically significant (P < 0.05), whereas HDL cholesterol had not shown any significant difference between the two groups (P > 0.05). Conclusion: By analyzing the results of the study conducted, it was concluded that there was an increased risk of dyslipidemia among the high-BMI group compared with the normal-BMI people. Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the characteristics of high body mass index (BMI) and normal weight people living with HIV after antiretroviral therapy (ART) and establish a model., Methods: A total of 290 people living with HIV after 1 year of ART treatment were enrolled and divided into two groups based on whether their BMI index was <24 or ⩾24 at week 48. The demographic, clinical data were collected and analyzed. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed. A model was established and use to predict the occurrence of certain diseases., Results: A total of 290 people living with HIV were included in this study; 200 had a normal BMI (BMI < 24) and 90 were high BMI (BMI ⩾ 24) after 1-year ART. Their baseline characteristics were significantly different in relation to age ( p  = 0.007), sex distribution ( p  = 0.040), ART regimen ( p  = 0.040), alanine aminotransferase levels ( p  < 0.001), and three major serum lipid levels: triglycerides ( p  < 0.001), cholesterol ( p  = 0.011), and low-density lipoprotein ( p  = 0.005). A multivariate logistic regression analysis resulted in the development of a model for the diagnosis of high BMI and hyperlipidemia. The model score is an independent risk factor for hyperlipidemia (odds ratio = 2.674, p  = 0.001) and high BMI ( p  < 0.001). Background: Understanding the spatiotemporal trends of colorectal cancer (CRC) deaths caused by low physical activity (LPA) and high body mass index (BMI) is essential for the prevention and control of CRC. We assessed patterns of LPA and high BMI-induced CRC deaths from 1990 to 2019 at global, regional, and national levels. Methods: Data on CRC deaths due to LPA and high BMI was downloaded from the Global Burden of Disease 2019 Study. We calculated estimated annual percentage change (EAPC) to quantify spatiotemporal trends in the CRC age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR) due to LPA and high BMI. Results: In 2019, CRC deaths due to LPA and high BMI were estimated as 58.66 thousand and 85.88 thousand, and the corresponding ASMRs were 0.77/100,000 and 1.07/100,000, with EAPCs of-0.39 [95% confidence interval (CI):-0.49,-0.29] and 0.64[95% CI: 0.57, 0.71] from 1990 to 2019 respectively. Since 1990, the ASMR of CRC attributable to LPA and high BMI has been on the rise in many geographic regions, especially in low middle and middle sociodemographic index (SDI) regions. Thirteen countries had a significant downward trend in CRC ASMR attributed to LPA, with EAPCs < -1. And, only 4 countries had a significant downward trend in CRC ASMR attributable to high BMI, with EAPCs < -1. Countries with a higher baseline burden in 1990 and a higher SDI in 2019 had a faster decline in ASMR due to high BMI and LPA. Conclusions: The burden of CRC caused by LPA and high BMI is on the rise in many countries. Eating disorders (ED) are among the top three most common debilitating illnesses in adolescent females, while high Body Mass Index (BMI) is one of the five leading modifiable risk factors for preventable disease burden. The high prevalence of eating and weight-related problems in adolescence is of great concern, particularly since this is a period of rapid growth and development. Here, we comment on the current evidence for the prevention of EDs and high BMI and the importance of assessing the cost-effectiveness of interventions that integrate the prevention of EDs and high BMI in this population. There is evidence that there are effective interventions targeted at children, adolescents and young adults that can reduce the prevalence of risk factors associated with the development of EDs and high BMI concurrently. However, optimal decision-making for the health of younger generations involves considering the value for money of these effective interventions. Further research investigating the cost-effectiveness of potent and sustainable integrated preventive interventions for EDs and high BMI will provide decision makers with the necessary information to inform investment choices.
