This paper presents a numerical study of natural convection in an annular cavity filled with a hybrid nanofluid under the influence of a magnetic field. This study is significant for applications requiring enhanced thermal management, such as in heat exchangers, electronics cooling, and energy systems. The inner cylinder, equipped with fins and subjected to uniform volumetric heat generation, contrasts with the adiabatic outer cylinder. This study aims to investigate how different nanoparticle combinations (Fe3O4 with Cu, Ag, and Al2O3) and varying Hartmann and Rayleigh numbers impact heat transfer efficiency. The finite volume method is employed to solve the governing equations, with simulations conducted using Fluent 6.3.26. Parameters such as volume fraction (ϕ2 = 0.001, 0.004, 0.006), Hartmann number (0 ≤ Ha ≤ 100), Rayleigh number (3 × 103 ≤ Ra ≤ 2.4 × 104), and fin number (N = 0, 2, 4, 6, 8) are analyzed. Streamlines, isotherms, and induced magnetic field contours are utilized to assess flow structure and heat transfer. The results reveal that increasing the Rayleigh number and magnetic field enhances heat transfer, while the presence of fins, especially at N = 2, may inhibit convection currents and reduce heat transfer efficiency. This paper reports the numerical study of natural convection in a square enclosure filled with CNT-water nanofluid and exposed to a uniform external magnetic field. Heating is ensured by twothin fins. Using the control volume method, the effects of the fins position, their length and spacing as well as the solid volume fraction, the Rayleigh number and the Hartmann number on the thermal performance of the cavity were examined. The results obtained show that the heat transfer rate increases with the Rayleigh number, solid volume fraction and fins length; but decreases with Hartmann numbers. A comparison is also carried out between the results obtained from the Maxwell and Xue models. The results prove that the mean Nusselt number is higher based on the Xue model. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Predicting the air flow pattern with proper accuracy and speed inside a building with natural ventilation is one of the important study topics of building design due to the economic importance of energy consumption. For this purpose, in this study, a chamber with certain dimensions and with natural connection has been investigated as a study sample to predict the air flow pattern and speed distribution with the help of regional models. Two air inlet and outlet valves were considered for natural air ventilation. After researching the previous models, the three-dimensional zone model coupled with heat transfer and air flow calculations (ZAER) was chosen as the basis for comparing the modeling results. In the following, after zoning, to improve the flow coefficient factor model, which is assumed to be a constant number, it was assumed to be variable and the results were recorded in different states. The behavior of the model has been checked in the flow coefficients between 0.3 and 1 in order to obtain the most optimal coefficient for the number of suitable cells. Comparing the results of the research with the results of other models and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) showed that the three-dimensional behavior of the flow shows better compatibility with the experimental researches. The Buongiorno nanofluid model serves as a foundational model for theoretical and experimental research in the field of nanofluids, and this model can be applied to various engineering problems, including heat exchangers, biomedical applications, solar collectors, nuclear reactors, and different cooling systems in the automotive and electronics industries. The use of nanofluids in the Eyring-Powell fluid over a squeezed sensing surfaces is a vital area of research for the design and improvement of microfluidic devices and sensors, which find widespread usage in industrial and medical applications. The main purpose of this work is to note the augmentation in thermal conductivity by using the Buongiorno nanofluid model along with the natural convective flow of non-Newtonian Eyring-Powell fluid that is moving on the squeezed sensory surface along with slip velocity. The viscosity of a fluid is assumed to be dependent on temperature. The Cattaneo-Christov heat and mass flux and chemical reaction are assumed to determine the combined effect of heat and mass transport. The governing model of equations is in the form of dimensional partial differential equations, and we have to convert these equations into ordinary differential equations; therefore, a set of similarity transformations is adopted for making the equations into dimensionless form. The numerical results were obtained by adopting the predictor and corrector multistep method, namely the ‘Adams-Bashforth’ technique, in Matlab software. The use of natural convective flow enhances the velocity region. The velocity slip parameter increases the velocity of the fluid, whereas the viscosity parameter drops the velocity profile. The thermophoresis and Brownian motion parameters are the sources of the increment in the temperature region. The thermal relaxation and solutal relaxation parameters are the sources of decline in the temperature region. The squeezing parameter is the source of reduction in the skin friction, whereas the result indicates that the fluid parameter, Grashof number, and viscosity coefficients increase the skin friction.

This study conducts a comprehensive numerical investigation into enhancing thermal transfer within square enclosures filled with water-based oxide nanoparticle suspensions, subjected to central sinusoidal heating. Further flow configuration, influenced by an inclined magnetic field, is designed with a focus on enhancing thermal efficiency for engineering applications. Key innovations include the application of sinusoidal heating elements to enhance thermal performance significantly. Computational analysis supported by finite element analysis, quantifies the impact of these parameters on flow dynamics and thermal transmission, presenting a substantial advance in the understanding of nanofluid-filled enclosure thermal management. The study reveals that the undulation of the heating element plays a crucial role in the heat transfer rate, with improvements observed as undulation increases. The introduction of magnetic fields further controls flow distribution and buoyancy effects, as demonstrated by our findings that an increase in the Rayleigh number correlates with enhanced convection, dominating the cavity's thermal dynamics. Additionally, the report outlines the conditions under which the Nusselt number increases, indicating enhanced thermal performance. These insights are pivotal for designing optimized heat transfer systems and energy-efficient applications, setting a new benchmark for thermal management strategies in practical engineering contexts. Non-Newtonian fluids within heterogeneous porous media may give rise to complex spatial energy and mass distributions owing to non-local mechanisms, the modeling of which remains unclear. This study investigates the natural convection heat and mass transfer of non-Newtonian fluids in porous media, considering the Soret and Dufour effects. A strongly coupled model is developed to quantify the coupled transport of energy and reactive pollutants with the non-Newtonian fluid. The constitutive equation for the non-Newtonian fluid is described by a two-sided Caputo type space fractional velocity gradient. The governing equation, with a symmetric diffusion term, is effectively solved using a stable and convergent shifted Grünwald–Letnikov formula. The influences of three important parameters, which are the average skin friction coefficient, the average Nusselt number, and the Sherwood number, on fluid heat and mass transfer are calculated and analyzed. Numerical results reveal a significant interaction between the fractional derivative and the buoyancy ratio number, both of which affect the average skin friction coefficient. Furthermore, the average Nusselt number increases with the Dufour number while decreasing with the average Sherwood number. These findings enhance our understandings of the dynamics of energy and mass co-transport in non-Newtonian fluids, particularly in relation to their constitutive equation featuring spatial non-local properties. Abstract The work numerically investigated laminar natural convection heat transfer from the single sphere with a constant heat flux surface in air over the wide range of Grashof number ( $$10 \le Gr \le 10^{7}$$ 10 ≤ G r ≤ 10 7 ). The more efficient and precise numerical method based on Bejan et al. was employed here, the accuracy of which has been confirmed through validation against a single sphere case. The heat transfer characteristics were systemically analyzed in terms of isothermal contours and streamlines around the sphere, dimensionless temperature and velocity profiles. Additionally, local Nusselt number as well as local pressure and friction drag coefficients were studied with different Grashof number. In comparison to the sphere with uniform heat flux surface, the heat transfer from the isothermal sphere was found to be enhanced attributable to a more robust buoyancy force and a steeper temperature gradient. Moreover, the average Nusselt number for the sphere with a constant heat flux between 60.4 and 98.6% of the isothermal sphere’s value, this range being contingent upon the specific Grashof number. What’s more, the proposed correlation addresses a notable void in the predictive understanding of heat transfer from the sphere with uniform heat flux, which is scenario prevalent in various engineering applications, particularly for the cooling of electrical and nuclear systems, and offer values for academic research.

The heat transfer by natural convection of a nanofluid, which is ethylene glycol−Al2O3 has been analyzed in an open cavity numerically using the multiple-relaxation-time - lattice Boltzmann method by the graphics processing unit high-performance parallel computing. The right side of the cavity is open, and different boundary conditions have been applied to all the walls. Besides, one adiabatic fin has been installed on each side of the enclosure’s top and bottom sides. Here, the Prandtl number is fixed at 16.6, and the Rayleigh number changes from 104−106 with the nanoparticle volume fraction from 0%−5% has been used for numerical simulations. Besides, in this work, the power-law index is an important parameter as well, and 0.7, 0.8, 1, 1.2, and 1.4 are the values of this parameter. Results are presented concerning both the average and local Nusselt numbers in the form of streamlines, isotherms, temperature distributions, velocity distributions, heat transfer rate, and entropy production. It is observed when increases, average Nusselt number increases 607.94%, and for this reason, the overall heat transfer rate rises because of buoyancy force. In addition, the average Nusselt number falls by 83.28% when the power-law index rises; as a result, the total heat transfer rate falls because fluid viscosity increases with the power-law index. It is also observed that for shear-thickening fluids, the temperature gradient is higher. On the contrary, the temperature started decreasing with the increase of the power-law index. Additionally, the local Nusselt number value rises as power-law index falls. Moreover, the heat transfer rate increases by 7.08% when volume fraction increases. The intensity of buoyancy force reduces with the increase of volume fraction. Besides, the overall entropy generation rises when the Rayleigh number and the volume fraction increase, but it decreases when the power-law index increases. So, when the Rayleigh number is 106, the power-law index is 0.7, and the volume fraction is 0.00 then the entropy generation is the highest. This current research has many applications for example heat exchangers, electronic cooling equipment, solar heating systems, aerospace applications, medical devices, and entropy generation-related systems.

The cellular automaton-lattice Boltzmann method-immersed moving boundary coupled model is established to study the microstructure evolution during the solidification process of 2009Al/SiCp. After several model benchmarks, the natural convection of liquid phase and its effect on particle settlement under different pulling velocities were studied firstly. The results showed that at higher pulling velocity, the particle decelerates downward before contacting with dendrite front due to intensified natural convection. At lower pulling velocity, the particle decelerates gradually until a change in direction and upward movement. As the particle approach the tip of the dendrite, the particle experiences a brief upward movement before contacting the dendritic front. Then the convection induced by particles has an impact on the distribution of solutes in the liquid phase. It has been observed that at lower pulling velocity, there is a significant difference in solute distribution at the solidification front. The primary reason for this phenomenon is the higher solute concentration near the solidification front at lower pulling velocity, rather than the higher liquid phase flowing rate. Finally, our model investigated the microstructure evolution process during the directional solidification process of 2009Al/SiCp at different pulling velocities. The results indicate a good agreement between the simulation results and experiment observations.

Natural convection is numerically studied in a triangular cavity whose inclined walls that is isothermal at temperature TC, while its base is thermally insulated. The cavity contains a hot isothermal cylindrical heat source TH of diameter D. In this study, we used the nanofluid (water + TiO2). The nanoparticle volume fraction is varied within the range 0.01 ≤ ϕ ≤ 0.05, and the Rayleigh number is set between 103 and 106 . The main objective of this study is to explore the impact of nanoparticle concentration, Rayleigh number (Ra), and heat source position (h) on the enhancement of convective thermal transfer. The simulation results show that thermal exchange improves with increasing Ra, heat source diameter, and nanoparticle volume fraction (ϕ).

This paper introduces an innovative analytical model to compute flame velocities and temperatures within a premix burner in a domestic gas oven. This model significantly streamlines the heat transfer simulation process by simplifying the modeling of the thermo-chemical energy release during combustion, effectively reducing complexity and computation time. Accelerated solutions are essential at the initial design stages when comparing the effect of the oven parameter variation on the overall performance. The validation of the proposed analytical model involved experimental assessments of the temperature of the false bottom plate in a natural gas oven. The resulting data were then compared against CFD simulations performed utilizing the proposed model. The results revealed a marginal discrepancy of 4% between the experimental measurements and the outcomes generated by the model. Simulations were executed under differing conditions, encompassing scenarios with and without radiation effects. This exploration identified natural convection as the predominant heat transfer mechanism, with heat radiation contributing only modestly to the heating of the false bottom plate. Among its advantages, the proposed model offers a notable reduction in the numerical complexity of the modeling of the combustion process. Furthermore, its straightforward integration into numerical simulations involving premixed flames underscores its practical utility and versatility in evaluating design performance at the early stages of the design. Highly accurate models can be left for the final oven configuration validation.

Abstract Natural convection in a square porous cavity with a partial magnetic field is investigated in this work. The magnetic field enters a part of the left wall horizontally. The horizontal walls of the cavity are thermally insulated. The wave vertical wall on the right side is at a low temperature, while the left wall is at a high temperature. The Brinkman-Forchheimer-extended Darcy equation of motion is utilized in the construction of the fluid flow model for the porous media. The Finite Element Method (FEM) was used to solve the problem’s governing equations, and the current study was validated by comparing it to earlier research. On streamlines, isotherms, and Nusselt numbers, changes in the partial magnetic field length, Hartmann number, Rayleigh number, Darcy number, and number of wall waves have been examined. This paper will show that the magnetic field negatively impacts heat transmission. This suggests that the magnetic field can control heat transfer and fluid movement. Additionally, it was shown that heat transfer improved when the number of wall waves increased.

This study examines the heat and mass transfer aspects of the natural convective flow of a nanofluid along a vertical flat surface, incorporating electrified nanoparticles and electric Reynolds number. While conventional nanofluid models like Buongiorno’s model overlook the nanoparticle electrification and electric Reynolds number mechanisms, this study addresses the nanoparticle electrification and electric Reynolds number mechanisms by justifying its relevance, particularly when tribo-electrification results from Brownian motion. This incorporation of the electric Reynold number and nanoparticle electrification mechanism is a unique aspect of this investigation. Using the similarity method and nondimensionalization, the governing partial differential equations of the flow are transformed into a set of locally similar equations. MATLAB's bvp4c solver is employed to solve this set of equations, along with the boundary conditions. The obtained results are validated by comparison with those from previously published works. Graphical representations are provided for the numerical outcomes of non-dimensional velocity, concentration and temperature concerning the nanoparticle electrification parameter and electric Reynolds number. The combined effects of the nanoparticle electrification parameter and the electric Reynolds number on non-dimensional heat and mass transfer coefficients are examined in tabular form. Furthermore, the impact of the nanoparticle electrification parameter on both heat and mass transfer for varying values of the Brownian motion parameter is explored graphically. The primary finding of this investigation indicates that the electrification mechanism of nanoparticles quickens the transfer of heat and mass from a flat surface to nanofluid, suggesting promising prospects for utilization in cooling systems and biomedical applications.

This study investigates fluid flow and natural convection heat transfer in a parallelogram-shaped cavity with a porous medium under non-uniform temperature condition. The bottom wall is heated with a non-uniform temperature, the side walls are cooled, and the upper wall is adiabatic. The governing equations, along with corresponding boundary conditions, are formulated in dimensionless stream function and vorticity using the extended Darcy model for the porous medium. The equations are solved by employing the finite difference method. The study presents outcomes for isotherms, streamlines, and Nusselt numbers across range of parameters, including the Rayleigh number (104≤Ra≤108), Darcy number (10−1≤Da≤10−6), Prandtl numbers (Pr=0.71,1,7.1), fluid porosity (ϵ=0.8), and inclination angles (30∘≤ϕ≤90∘), about flow and heat transfer characteristics. The results indicate that an increase in Ra, Pr, and ϕ, along with a decrease in Da, leads to an enhancement in the strength of vortexes. It is observed that for constant Ra⁎=RaDa, Rate of heat transfer increases with an increase in Ra and a decrease in Da. The maximum value observed is 10.15. Also rate of Heat transfer increases with the increase in angle and maximum rate of heat transfer is observed at ϕ=90∘.

Convection heat collector technology is a promising technology for drying agricultural products. The study aims to determine the temperature characteristics, energy efficiency, and thermal discharging of a flat plate-type collector using double-glazing technology integrated with heat storage material in the state of iron scraps in passive and active modes. Investigation was conducted for seven hours of exposure under the sun (08:00-15:00 local time). Ten temperature sensors and four humidity sensors were used during measurements to determine the thermal characteristics of the heat collector. The density of iron scraps as heat storage material is 250 kg/m3 with an irradiation time of seven hours. The results indicate that the passive mode of operation has a higher temperature characteristics than the active mode. During irradiation process, the highest temperatures on the absorber in active and passive modes were 63°C and 55°C, respectively. Meanwhile, the highest temperatures on the TES in passive and active modes during irradiation were 55.6°C and 50.6°C, respectively. The energy efficiency of the collector ranges from 23.3-55.1% (passive) and 18.6-40.7% (active). The energy efficiency of the TES (Thermal Energy Storage) has a range of 7.4-22.7% (passive) and 7.4-13.0% (active). During discharging process, it shows that the TES in passive mode can store heat for 275 minutes and active mode for 95 minutes. Heat collectors that used double glazing technology and heat storage materials using iron scraps with a density of 250 kg/m3 have significant potential to extend the drying duration of agricultural products with limited exposure to sunlight and environmentally friendly heat collectors.

To provide food supply chains, reduce losses from various crops after the harvesting process, and also to preserve vegetable and fruit crops purchased for consumption from rotting and not being wasted. The drying process is one of the most appropriate ways to solve such problems. In this research, several simple thermal modeling methods were proposed to perform the drying process through open sun drying (OSD) under forced pressure (FGD) and natural convection (NGD). This study was conducted at the King Faisal University Training and Research Station (25.4° latitude). North, longitude 49.6° east, height 142 meters above sea level). The thermal performance analysis of the models was evaluated by calculating the amount of solar radiation, air temperature, product temperature, moisture evaporation rate, and wind speed. The results obtained showed that drying inside the greenhouse is the best alternative to drying under direct sunlight, so that the maximum temperatures were obtained, ranging between 55 to 52 in FGD and 40-45 inside NGD. Also, the heat transfer coefficient was highest in the amount of moisture removed from the product, reaching its maximum. The weight of the product was reduced to 83%, 80 and 73%, in GFD, NGD and OSD, respectively Accordingly, it was found that drying gave the highest expected results, and the temperature of the product ranged between 9.25 to 14.36 and 4.93 to 10.32, and the correlation coefficient ranged between 0.95-0.52 and 0.95. -0.89 at OSD and NGD respectively. Moisture evaporation from the product is 28.92-2.77 at NGD and moisture evaporation exerted for FGD is 31.35 and the correlation coefficient for the product at FGD ranges from 0.93-0.84. The product and greenhouse temperature range are between 0.99-0.96. The moisture evaporation rate indicating that the values obtained were well matched. The integrity of a pressure vessel (PRV) is affected by the decay heat of the molten pool in the lower head, so it is very important to study the natural convection heat transmission in the lower head. Scholars from all over the world have carried out a lot of experimental studies and calculations to determine the convection mechanism and heat transmission characteristics of the molten pool. Most of them were based on the empirical formula of convective heat transmission on the wall of a hemispherical molten pool based on two-dimensional slice experiments and simulation calculations. In this study, FLUENT 2021R1 software was used to simulate the three-dimensional convective heat transmission process of the hemispherical molten pool, and the temperature, velocity and wall heat transmission coefficients of the flow field were analyzed. The results were in good agreement with experimental data from UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles). Through research on the heat transmission of the lower head, the results showed that in the region where the wall angle was θ between approximately 72 and 90 degrees, heat transmission coefficients had larger fluctuations, and a more reasonable empirical relation was proposed. Comparing between the simulation results of CFD and the two-dimensional empirical formula, it was found that the latter one was smaller under the same θ angle condition. Finally, the convection phenomena of different external temperatures were simulated, and the main factors affecting the flow field by temperature were analyzed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present work investigates the combined effect of varying gravity and heat flux direction with respect to gravity on the melting dynamics of Phase Change Material. Similar conditions are relevant to applications in space, at different space infrastructures, such as orbiting satellites, as well as various extraterrestrial surface assets, landers, and rovers. The numerical simulations are performed to study the melting dynamics of a paraffin-based phase change material with Prandtl number Pr ≈ 71 and Stefan number Ste ≈ 0.33 inside a differentially heated square enclosure. The mathematical model employs a control volume-based enthalpy porosity approach to simulate the melting process inside enclosure. The direction of the incoming heat flux relative to the gravity vector is defined in terms of an orientation angle, which is varying circularly with a step of 45°, whereas the gravity level is ranging from the terrestrial surface value g to 0.2 g to analyze the melting process over a wide range of Rayleigh number 100 ≤ Ra ≤ 107. The study provides a detailed insight into the attributes of heat transfer, flow dynamics, and energy storage, along with a quantitative analysis of the transition between various melting regimes and temporal fluctuations in the performance parameters. The findings demonstrate that the mutual orientation between the directions of incoming heat flux and gravity, as well as the value of the latter, significantly affect features of the convective motion in the liquid phase, as well as the entire thermally driven heat transfer within the domain. In particular, for the oppositely directed gravity and heat flux, the melted fluid closely resembles Rayleigh-Bénard convection with the presence of multicellular flow structures, while at other orientation angles, except for a co-directed gravity and heat flux case, a circular convective motion of the melted fluid takes place. The results of numerical simulations reveal declining melting rates as the mutual orientation of gravity and heat flux changes from opposite to co-directed and vice versa. The phenomenon of natural convection is the subject of significant research interest due to its widespread occurrence in both natural and industrial contexts. This study focuses on investigating natural convection phenomena within triangular enclosures, specifically emphasizing a valley-shaped configuration. Our research comprehensively analyses unsteady, non-dimensional time-varying convection resulting from natural fluid flow within a valley-shaped cavity, where the inclined walls serve as hot surfaces and the top wall functions as a cold surface. We explore unsteady natural convection flows in this cavity, utilizing air as the operating fluid, considering a range of Rayleigh numbers from Ra = 100 to 108. Additionally, various non-dimensional times τ, spanning from 0 to 5000, are examined, with a fixed Prandtl number (Pr = 0.71) and aspect ratio (A = 0.5). Employing a two-dimensional framework for numerical analysis, our study focuses on identifying unstable flow mechanisms characterized by different non-dimensional times, including symmetric, asymmetric, and unsteady flow patterns. The numerical results reveal that natural convection flows remain steady in the symmetric state for Rayleigh values ranging from 100 to 7 × 103. Asymmetric flow occurs when the Ra surpasses 7 × 103. Under the asymmetric condition, flow arrives in an unsteady stage before stabilizing at the fully formed stage for 7 × 103 < Ra < 107. This study demonstrates that periodic unsteady flows shift into chaotic situations during the transitional stage before transferring to periodic behavior in the developed stage, but the chaotic flow remains predominant in the unsteady regime with larger Rayleigh numbers. Natural convection in a square porous cavity with a partial magnetic field is investigated in this work. The magnetic field enters a part of the left wall horizontally. The horizontal walls of the cavity are thermally insulated. The wave vertical wall on the right side is at a low temperature, while the left wall is at a high temperature. The Brinkman-Forchheimer-extended Darcy equation of motion is utilized in the construction of the fluid flow model for the porous media. The Finite Element Method (FEM) was used to solve the problem's governing equations, and the current study was validated by comparing it to earlier research. On streamlines, isotherms, and Nusselt numbers, changes in the partial magnetic field length, Hartmann number, Rayleigh number, Darcy number, and number of wall waves have been examined. This paper will show that the magnetic field negatively impacts heat transmission. This suggests that the magnetic field can control heat transfer and fluid movement. This numerical investigation explores the enhanced control of the 3D natural convection (NC) within a cubic cavity filled with graphene–water nanofluids, utilizing a bottom-center-located tree-shaped obstacle and a horizontal magnetic field (MF). The analysis includes the effects of the Rayleigh number (Ra), the solid volume fraction of graphene ( φ ), the Hartmann number (Ha), and the fins' length (W). The results show complex flow patterns and thermal behavior within the cavity, indicating the interactive effects of nanofluid properties, the tree-shaped obstacle, and magnetic field effects. The MHD effects reduce the convection, while the addition of graphene improves the thermal conductivity of the fluid, which enhances the heat transfer observed with increasing Rayleigh numbers. The increase in the fins' length on the heat transfer efficiency is found to be slightly negative, which is attributed to the complex interplay between the enhanced heat transfer surface area and fluid flow disruption. This study presents an original combination of non-destructive methods (magnetic field) and a destructive method (tree-shaped obstacle) for the control of the fluid flow and heat transfer characteristics in a 3D cavity filled with graphene–water nanofluids. In addition, it provides valuable information for optimizing heat transfer control strategies, with applications in electronic cooling, renewable energy systems, and advanced thermal management solutions. The application of a magnetic field was found to reduce the maximum velocity and total entropy generation by about 82% and 76%, respectively. The addition of graphene nanoparticles was found to reduce the maximum velocity by about 5.5% without the magnetic field and to increase it by 1.12% for Ha = 100. The concept behind this article is an extensive analysis of the most recent findings about free convection thermal flow in an enclosure or cavity, as well as the methods employed to enhance heat transfer (HT). There are different heat transfer enhancers such as (a) nanofluids, (b) porous media, (c) large particle suspensions, (d) phase-change devices, (e) flexible seals, (g) fins and microfins, and (h) ultra high thermal conductivity composite materials. The majority of heat transfer enhancement techniques that use porous media, fins, and nanofluids are reviewed in the literature. In this review, both experiments and theoretical studies on different cavities are highlighted through investigating the subsequent parameters: impacts of the configuration of the cavities, effect of the type of nanoparticles, significance of cavities in nanofluids, effects of the cavities' tilt angle, wave amplitude, the magnetic field's (MF) influence in cavities, and cooler and heater impacts. Through a review of the literature, it was found that the use of nanofluid in all forms of cavities increases its thermal performance. The most used cavity is square, which has many applications. The results obtained from previous studies can be used to improve the design and heat refinement of the geometry applied in diverse energy systems. Additionally, as the Hartmann number rises, there is a rising tendency observed in the average Nusselt number. Furthermore, as the concentration of nanofluid particles and Rayleigh numbers rise, so does the rate of heat transfer. The heat transfer within the cavity is improved by the hybrid nanoparticles. The amount of the augmentation would, however, decrease as the concentration of nanoparticles increased. The lowest volume fraction of nanoparticles, Ø = 0.2 vol.%, showed the greatest increase. Also, the inner wave affects the flow pattern when the wave amplitude rises but the flow strength stays constant. Convection heat collector technology is a promising technology for drying agricultural products. The study aimed to determine the temperature characteristics, energy efficiency, and thermal discharging of a flat plate-type collector using double-glazing technology integrated with heat storage material in the state of iron scraps in passive and active modes. Investigation was conducted for seven hours of exposure under the sun (08:00-15:00 local time). Ten temperature sensors and four humidity sensors were used during measurements to determine the thermal characteristics of the heat collector. The density of iron scraps as heat storage material is 250 kg/m3 with an irradiation time of seven hours. The results indicate that the passive mode of operation has a higher temperature characteristics than the active mode. During irradiation process, the highest temperatures on the absorber in active and passive modes were 63 °C and 55 °C, respectively. Meanwhile, the highest temperatures on the TES in passive and active modes during irradiation were 55.6 °C and 50.6 °C, respectively. The energy efficiency of the collector ranges from 23.3-55.1% (passive) and 18.6-40.7% (active). The energy efficiency of the TES (Thermal Energy Storage) has a range of 7.4-22.7% (passive) and 7.4-13.0% (active). During discharging process, it shows that the TES in passive mode can store heat for 275 minutes and active mode for 95 minutes. Heat collectors that used double glazing technology and heat storage materials using iron scraps with a density of 250 kg/m3 have a significant potential to extend the drying duration of agricultural products with limited exposure to sunlight and environmentally friendly heat collectors. Natural convection is numerically studied in a triangular cavity whose inclined walls that is isothermal at temperature TC, while its base is thermally insulated. The cavity contains a hot isothermal cylindrical heat source TH of diameter D. In this study, we used the nanofluid (water + TiO2). The nanoparticle volume fraction is varied within the range 0.01 ≤ ϕ ≤ 0.05, and the Rayleigh number is set between 10³ and 106. The main objective of this study is to explore the impact of nanoparticle concentration, Rayleigh number (Ra), and heat source position (h) on the enhancement of convective thermal transfer. This paper introduces an innovative analytical model to compute flame velocities and temperatures within a premix burner in a domestic gas oven. This model significantly streamlines the heat transfer simulation process by simplifying the modeling of the thermo-chemical energy release during combustion, effectively reducing complexity and computation time. Accelerated solutions are essential at the initial design stages when comparing the effect of the oven parameter variation on the overall performance. The validation of the proposed analytical model involved experimental assessments of the temperature of the false bottom plate in a natural gas oven. The resulting data were then compared against CFD simulations performed utilizing the proposed model. The results revealed a marginal discrepancy of 4% between the experimental measurements and the outcomes generated by the model. Simulations were executed under differing conditions, encompassing scenarios with and without radiation effects. This exploration identified natural convection as the predominant heat transfer mechanism, with heat radiation contributing only modestly to the heating of the false bottom plate. Among its advantages, the proposed model offers a notable reduction in the numerical complexity of the modeling of the combustion process. Furthermore, its straightforward integration into numerical simulations involving premixed flames underscores its practical utility and versatility in evaluating design performance at the early stages of the design. In this study, we introduced modifications to a prior existing enthalpic lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) tailored for simulating the conjugate heat transfer phenomena in non-homogeneous media with time-dependent thermal properties. Our approach is based upon the incorporation of the remaining terms of a conservative energy equation, excluding only the terms regarding flow compressibility and viscous dissipation, thereby accounting for the local and transient variations in the thermophysical properties. The solutions of verification tests, comprising assessments of both transient and steady-state solutions, validated the accuracy of the proposed model, further bolstering its reliability for analyzing heat transfer processes. The modified model was then used to perform an analysis on structured cavities under free convection, revealing compelling insights, particularly regarding transient regimes, demonstrating that the structured cavities exhibit a beneficial impact on enhancing the heat transfer processes, hence providing insights for potential design enhancements in heat exchangers. These results demonstrate the potential of our modified enthalpic LBM approach for simulating complex heat transfer phenomena in non-homogeneous media and structured geometries, offering valuable results for heat exchanger engineering and optimization. A numerical method is used to solve the thermal analysis of natural convection in enclosures. This paper proposes the use of an implicit artificial-compressibility model in conjunction with the Radial Point Interpolation Meshless (RPIM) method to mimic laminar natural convective heat transport. The technique couples the pressure with the velocity components using an artificial compressibility model. The RPIM is used to discretize the spatial terms of the governing equation. We solve the semi-algebraic system implicitly in backward Euler pseudo-time. The proposed method solves two test problems—natural convection in the annulus of concentric circular cylinders and trapezoidal cavity. Additionally, the results are validated using experimental and numerical data available in the literature. This study investigates fluid flow and natural convection heat transfer in a parallelogram-shaped cavity with a porous medium under non-uniform temperature condition. The bottom wall is heated with a non-uniform temperature, the side walls are cooled, and the upper wall is adiabatic. The governing equations, along with corresponding boundary conditions, are formulated in dimensionless stream function and vorticity using the extended Darcy model for the porous medium. The equations are solved by employing the finite difference method. The study presents outcomes for isotherms, streamlines, and Nusselt numbers across range of parameters, including the Rayleigh number (10 4 ≤ R a ≤ 10 8), Darcy number (10 − 1 ≤ D a ≤ 10 − 6), Prandtl numbers (P r = 0.71 , 1 , 7.1), fluid porosity (ϵ = 0.8) , and inclination angles (30 ∘ ≤ ϕ ≤ 90 ∘), about flow and heat transfer characteristics. The results indicate that an increase in Ra , Pr , and ϕ , along with a decrease in Da , leads to an enhancement in the strength of vortexes. It is observed that for constant R a ⁎ = R a D a , Rate of heat transfer increases with an increase in Ra and a decrease in Da. The maximum value observed is 10.15. The transition of the steady fluid flow in a differently heated cavity with an adiabatic wavy fin installed on its hot wall to the unsteady one under the action of this fin was simulated numerically depending on the geometry of the fin. It was established that the thermal behavior of the fluid in the cavity is greatly dependent on the relative undulation of the fin, and the heat transfer in the cavity increases with increase in the fin-developed heat exchange surface of the cavity. This study explores the numerical investigation of magnetohydrodynamic free convection flow within a rectangular cavity featuring a triangular obstacle near a corner heater. The upper horizontal wall is maintained at a cool temperature, while the right bottom corner is heated, and the remaining walls are kept adiabatic. Solving the governing nonlinear differential equations for general flow problems, along with boundary conditions, is accomplished using the Galerkin weighted residual finite element method. The simulation spans a broad range of parameters, including Rayleigh number Ra(102 = Ra = 104), Hartmann number Ha(0 = Ha = 100), and Prandtl number Pr (0.70 = Pr = 7.00). Results are presented in terms of stream functions, temperature profiles, and Nusselt Numbers. At low Rayleigh numbers (Ra = 103), the isotherms exhibit near-parallel alignment with the upper portion of the triangular obstacle, while higher Ra values lead to more distorted isotherms. An increase in Rayleigh number corresponds to a significant enhancement in flow circulation and heat transfer. Isotherms distributions remain consistent with increasing Hartmann numbers, but higher Hartmann numbers influence streamlines. The installation of successional heating devices in industrial buildings will result in thermal corridors. To improve the thermal environment in and around these corridors, buoyancy-driven ventilation is commonly utilized to dissipate heat, which is based on the natural convection design for buildings. However, the flow and heat exchange patterns of natural convection related to thermal corridors have not been clearly clarified, and no relevant correlations have been established to quantify them. The conducted numerical study aimed to analyze the flow and heat transfer characteristics of natural convection within thermal corridors in industrial buildings. Experimental data were utilized to validate a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) model developed for this purpose. The study considered the influence of various parameters on the results obtained. In the side corridor, the prevalence of reverse flow dominates much of the channel, while in the middle corridor, reverse flow near the bottom corner is observed. The ambient air temperature significantly impacts the temperature distribution in both corridors. Increasing the ambient air temperature at the inlet from 22 to 28 °C results in a substantial temperature rise within the corridor, by approximately 6–7 °C. When the outlet size is constant and the inlet size drops by 30%, the air temperature in the corridor increases by 3 °C. Finally, correlations were established based on the simulation data to predict the surface-averaged N u ¯ of the heated wall and the induced mass flow rate, m ˙ , of the natural convection. The Phase-Change Heat Exchanger Unit in Layered Porous Media (PCEU-LPM) is obtained through frozen pouring processing, and exhibits characteristics such as high thermal conductivity, high latent heat, and high permeability, making it suitable for dissipating heat in airborne electronic devices. This study numerically investigates the impact of aircraft speed acceleration conditions, which lead to weightlessness or overload, on the performance of the PCHEU-LPM, with a particular focus on the influence of natural convection in the liquid-phase region. Initially, a microscale thermal analysis model is established based on the Navier–Stokes equation scanning electron micrograph to calculate the effective thermal conductivity and permeability of the PCHEU-LPM under different porosities. Subsequently, these parameters are incorporated into a macroscale thermal analysis model based on Darcy's law, employing an average parameter approach. Using the macroscale thermal analysis model, temperature and velocity fields are computed under various porosities, acceleration magnitudes, and directions. The calculation results indicate that as the acceleration increases from α = 0 to α = 10 g, the interface temperature of the PCHTU-LPM decreases by approximately 5.2 K, and the temperature fluctuation decreases by 2.4 K. If the porosity of the PCHTU-LPM is increased from ε = 70% to ε = 85%, the influence of acceleration change on natural convection will be further amplified, resulting in a decrease in the interface temperature of the PCHTU-LPM by approximately 10.2 K and a decrease in temperature fluctuation by 5.8 K. When the acceleration direction is +z, the interface temperature of the PCHTU-LPM is at its lowest, while it is highest when the acceleration direction is −z, with a maximum difference of 15.4 K between the two. When the acceleration direction is ±x and ±y, the interface temperature lies between the former two cases, with the interface temperature slightly higher for ±y compared to ±x, with a maximum difference of 3.9 K between them. This paper delves into the numerical investigation of aluminum oxide–water nanofluid thermal and dynamic performances under the influences of magnetic field application and chemical reaction, utilizing the Finite Element Method within a circular enclosure containing three inner tubes, as an application to the heat exchanging phenomenon between the reactive shell of the cavity and the surface of the triple tubes. Various governing parameters were studied for their interaction on the nanofluid flow and heat transmission rate within the proposed geometry, including the Rayleigh parameter (103≤Ra≤105), Hartmann parameter (0≤Ha≤61), nanoparticles concentration (0≤∅≤6×10-2), magnetic rotational angle (0o≤γ≤90o), and Frank-Kamenetskii parameter (0≤Fk≤3). The results indicated that raising Ra from 103 to 105 results in expediting the nanofluid velocity by 10.62 % and 100 % respectively as well as raising the total heat transfer efficiency. The nanofluid speed was also increased by 28.57 % when Fk has to further increase to a value of 3. When there was no exothermic activity present, the rate of heat transmission was at its lowest, and it was greater when the Fk value was 3. Similarly, there were discernible impacts in various areas of the geometry as the Ha number intensified and the Nuavg decreased. Improvements in local and mean Nusselt parameters are observed when the concentration of nanoparticles is increased, suggesting better heat transfer, achieving an increase by 7 % in the average Nusselt number. This research emphasizes the importance of nanoparticle concentration in raising the medium’s rates of heat transmission, contributing to advancements in energy storage development.

The following comments address missing information, incomplete mathematical expressions, and the erroneous quantitative findings in the above-mentioned paper. The current research examines the combined effects of solar energy and thermal buoyancy around a laminar jet placed in a porous medium. The governing boundary layer equations are dimensionalized by using appropriate dimensionless variables. The numerical solution of the dimensionless boundary layer equations is obtained using the finite difference method. The impact of physical parameters, which are Darcy number, dimensionless porous medium inertia coefficient, Prandtl number, radiation parameter, and dimensionless fluid's absorption parameter, on velocity and temperature profile, is shown graphically, while the influence of the above parameters on the heat transfer rate is presented in tabular form. It is keenly observed that for Darcy number velocity profile decreases while reverse behavior is noted for temperature distribution. For the dimensionless radiation parameter, both the velocity and temperature profile decrease. The main novelty of the current work is to improve the thermal performance of natural convection heat transfer system in the presence of thermal radiation placed in porous medium.

In this work, we numerically explore all possible ways to improve heat transmission in a sinusoidal cavity with oxide nanoparticle suspensions in liquid. Engineers aim to improve thermal efficiency in their designs by incorporating an inclined magnetic field into prospective flow configurations. One of the most important advances is the utilization of sinusoidal walls, which significantly improve thermal efficiency. A significant step forward in comprehending thermal management in enclosures filled with nanofluids has been made possible by computational analysis facilitated by finite element analysis. An approximation of the velocity and temperature is provided by the Ladyzhenskaya-Babuska—Brezzi (LBB)-stable element, which is utilized to deliver this information. The accuracy of the computational study has been verified by comparing them to their equivalents in the previous research. It has been demonstrated through the findings that the rate of heat transfer and the kinetic energy are both higher when the volume concentration is lower. Furthermore, in the absence of a magnetic field, the Nusselt number is 7 % higher, and the kinetic energy is 1.89 times bigger for ϕ = 2 % compared to ϕ = 8 % for k = 0.2. Similarly, the KE decreases when there is an increase in the ϕ. Furthermore, a magnetic field has a detrimental effect on their values. As a result, both the fluid flow velocity and the temperature properties decline with increasing Hartmann numbers. These observations play a major role in the development of energy-efficient applications and optimized heat transfer systems, establishing a novel standard for thermal management approaches in real-world engineering scenarios.

Thermal energy storage (TES) units featuring phase change materials (PCMs) have a crucial impact on efficient energy management. Since energy demands keep changing, and the world increasingly relies on sustainable energy sources, innovation is continuously required. New technologies, materials, and methods for energy storage must be developed to meet these shifting needs effectively. In this study, a triplex-tube heat exchanger (TTHE) was employed as a TES medium, utilizing PCM within the middle tube. Because of its high thermal energy storage capacity, RT50 was selected as the PCM. Four innovative arc-shaped fins were strategically integrated within the PCM space to accelerate heat release. The system was subjected to rotational speeds of 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 1, and 1.5 rpm. The investigation was carried out in two stages: initially, the impact of varying rotational speeds on the discharging process of the PCM in a finless TTHE was explored; subsequently, the influence of the same speeds on the solidification behavior of the finned TTHE was analyzed. Natural convection and PCM’s solidification process were examined through the enthalpy-porosity method. The findings represented that in the absence of fins, the device’s rotation had a more noticeable impact on the solidification behavior; however, incorporating fins was much more influential. Up to 2850 s, all the finned systems had solidified entirely in the presence or absence of the rotational mechanism, while in the finless system with a rotational speed of 1.5, 30.52 % of the material was still unsolidified until this time. Finally, the influence of three key structural parameters of the fins: α (outer fins arc angle), β (inner fins arc angle), and S (space between fins) on the discharging time of the PCM was analyzed using an artificial neural network (ANN) model. The study offered critical insights for optimizing fin configuration by systematically varying these parameters within defined ranges. An ANN predictive model was also proposed to assist TES system manufacturers and developers in future design and optimization efforts. The results demonstrated that the optimal setting of the TTHE (with the parameters of α = 60°, β = 60°, S = 10 mm) achieved the liquid fraction of 0.1, 80.33 % faster than the finless system.

The reduction in energy consumption through the energy performance improvement in the use of artificial lighting system found in all sectors of the economy is one of the very important strategies of achieving sustainable energy development. In contrast to conventional lighting, light-emitting diodes (LEDs) provide better energy efficiency. To effectively optimize the performance and efficiency of the LED lighting, the LED heat needs to be dissipated adequately. In the present work, the cooling performance of a radial heat sink with trapezoidal fins is numerically investigated under the consideration of natural convection and radiation. The study investigated the influence of the number of fins (20≤Nf≤36), the height of the fins (15mm≤hfH≤35mm) and the applied heat flux (300W/m2≤q˙≤1100W/m2) on the thermal resistance (Rth) and heat transfer coefficient (havg) of the heat sink. The numerical results obtained from this work were validated with literature, and an excellent agreement was established. The results found that both the Rth and the havg of the heat sink decreased as the number of fins (Nf) and fin height (hfH) increased. Meanwhile, the number of fins (Nf) has an optimal value for achieving the heat sink's effective cooling performance.

This study extends the analysis of natural convection in a viscoplastic fluid to flow within a triangular enclosure. The finite-element approach provided a numerical solution to the continuity, momentum, and energy equations. The governing parameters for this problem are the Rayleigh number, (Ra=104−106), yield number, (Y=0−Ymax), aspect ratio, (HL=0.5−2.5), and slope angle, (∅=0−π2). The influence of these parameters on the heat and mass transfer, morphology of yielded/unyielded regions, and fluid flow were thoroughly examined. The results show that two opposing factors influence the flow behavior and heat transmission within the triangular enclosure. The proximity of the walls restricts the convective movement, leading to reduced heat transfer. However, the proximity of hot and cold sources increases the temperature gradient and heat transfer. The unique influence of the viscoplastic material properties, particularly the yield stress, further distinguishes the heat transfer in this triangular enclosure from other geometries. The results indicate that an increase in the Rayleigh number mitigates the effects of yield stress to some extent. However, the accumulation of unyielded material at the triangular apex hinders convection flow. Furthermore, the viscoplastic fluid flow and heat transfer changed significantly with changes in triangle height. In particular, the maximum yield stress increased by more than 100 % as the aspect ratio increased from 0.5 to 2.5. A change in the slope angle causes a continuous transition from subcritical to supercritical bifurcation, significantly affecting the morphology of the yielded and unyielded areas, and the maximum (critical) yield number. Finally, correlations were developed to predict the Nusselt number and maximum yield stress in all cases.

The study provides novel and valuable insights into the behavior of fluid flow and heat transfer in a generated plume under the influence of an aligned magnetic field, which is a complex and less-explored area in fluid dynamics. Incorporating variable viscosity and suction effects adds to the realism and applicability of the model, as it accounts for more realistic conditions where fluid properties change with temperature and external forces influence the flow. A mathematical model is formulated as a system of coupled partial differential equations to analyze the flow dynamics. Subsequently, a numerical solution is derived with stream function formulation for the system of coupled partial differential equations, which transmuted it into ordinary differential equations. To achieve this, the numerical properties of the problem are established through the utilization of a Shooting method in tandem with the MATLAB tool bvp4c. The graphical representations of both missing and specified boundary conditions, analyzes the influences of the viscosity parameter ε, suction parameter ξ, magnetic force parameter S, Prandtl number Pr and magnetic Prandtl number γ. The impact of these parameters on the heat transfer and fluid flow is given in detail. Inclusion of suction velocity counteracted the effects of temperature-dependent viscosity. The velocity f′, current density ϕ″, temperature θ, skin friction f″ and magnetic flux ϕ′ depicted an enhanced behavior while heat transfer rate θ′ dropped with an increment in viscosity parameter ε. However, for an increasing suction parameter ξ, the reverse trend of these properties is observed as compared to the viscosity parameter ε. The inclusion of suction counteracted to the effects of variable viscosity. Understanding how heat plumes behave under magnetic fields the study aims to provide insights that can be applied to real-world scenarios, such as improving cooling systems in industrial applications, enhancing environmental safety measures, and optimizing biomedical engineering processes.

Previous literature has explained heat transfer by natural convection, radiation and the effect of entropy generation separately. This study focused on the entropy generation of heat transfer by natural convection and radiation instantaneously from vertical plane and corrugated surfaces. The study was carried out experimentally to test four constant heat flows on corrugated and flat surfaces made of copper foil. According to the values of heat generation for the two surfaces, natural convection accounted for 77 % while the radiation effect is 23 %. Surfaces with corrugations have a higher heat transfer coefficient than surfaces with flat surfaces by 12 %. Furthermore, the corrugated surfaces generated half the entropy of flat surfaces.

This paper represents an endeavor to review the advancements achieved in the topic of coupled radiation-free convection (CRFC) across various investigated models. Through detailed bibliometric analysis, the paper not only underscores the importance of CRFC publications but also highlights their frequency, signaling an increasing interest and significant contributions in this domain. The literature review is systematically structured, categorizing studies based on the types of cavities/enclosures with or without internal heating sources, thereby providing a comprehensive and structured overview of this field. It then delves into the crux of CRFC, giving the governing equations, assumptions, parameters, and variables, establishing a robust knowledge. Transitioning seamlessly to application, the paper explores simulated models, boundary conditions, and insightful result discussions. Notably, the proven influence of surface thermal radiation in enhancing free convection heat transfer throughout the reviewed studies underscores CRFC's transformative potential, paving the path for innovative advancements in thermal engineering systems.

Effective cooling mechanisms are considered advancements in thermal control systems for diverse engineering purposes. Considering this fact, this investigation explores the analysis of natural convection and entropy generation by employing a decagonal enclosure using Galerkin Residual Finite Element method. In this study, influence of Rayleigh number (103 ≤ Ra ≤ 106), Bejan number (Be), Prandtl number (0.71 ≤ Pr ≤ 7), and isothermal boundary condition are considered. The findings reveal that both Ra and Pr significantly impact the characteristics of convection and flow patterns within the system. In cases with and without the circular object, higher values of Pr and Ra lead to a more pronounced cooling effect on the upper heated surface compared to the lower surface. Also, it enhances the overall thermal efficiency of the system by 112.05 % in comparison to the absence of a cylinder enclosure. These findings shed light on thermal control system advancements and contribute to field progress.
