BACKGROUND: The pleiotropic effects of the melanocortin system show promise in overcoming limitations associated with large variations in opioid analgesic effectiveness observed in equine practice. Of particular interest is variation in the melanocortin-1-receptor (MC1R) gene, which dictates pigment type expression through its epistatic interaction with the agouti signalling protein (ASIP) gene. MC1R has previously been implicated in opioid efficacy in other species; however, this relationship is yet to be explored in horses. In this study, analgesic effectiveness was scored (1-3) based on noted response to dura penetration during the performance of cerebrospinal fluid centisis after sedation and tested for association with known genetic regions responsible for pigmentation variation in horses. RESULTS: The chestnut phenotype was statistically significant (P < 0.05) in lowering analgesic effectiveness when compared to the bay base coat colour. BACKGROUND: The elastic scattering spectroscopy (ESS) device (DermaSensor Inc., Miami, FL) is a noninvasive, painless, adjunctive tool for skin cancer detection. OBJECTIVES: To investigate the performance of the ESS device in the detection of melanoma. METHODS: A prospective, investigator-blinded, multicenter study was conducted at 8 United States (US) and 2 Australian sites. All eligible skin lesions were clinically concerning for melanoma, examined with the ESS device, subsequently biopsied according to dermatologists standard of care, and evaluated with histopathology. A total of 311 participants with 440 lesions were enrolled, including 44 melanomas (63.6% in situ and 36.4% invasive) and 44 severely dysplastic nevi. RESULTS: The observed sensitivity of the ESS device for melanoma detection was 95.5% (95% CI, 84.5% to 98.8%, 42 of 44 melanomas), and the observed specificity was 32.5% (95% CI, 27.2% to 38.3%). The positive and negative predictive values were 16.0% and 98.1%, respectively. LIMITATIONS: The device was tested in a high-risk population with lesions selected for biopsy based on clinical and dermoscopic assessments of board-certified dermatologists. Most enrolled lesions were pigmented. CONCLUSION: The ESS devices high sensitivity and NPV for the detection of melanoma suggest the device may be a useful adjunctive, point-of-care tool for melanoma detection.

In this work, we present a comprehensive study of the commutativity of fractional-order linear time-varying systems (LTVSs). Commutativity is a fundamental property in the analysis and control of dynamic systems and is often used to simplify the design of controllers. Fractional-order systems, which are characterized by a noninteger-order derivative, have been widely studied in recent years due to their ability to model a wide range of phenomena. However, the commutativity of fractional-order LTVSs has not been widely explored. In this work, we present a comprehensive study of the commutativity of fractional-order LTVSs. We first provide a mathematical definition of commutativity for these systems and demonstrate that it is equivalent to the commutativity of their transfer functions. We then propose a method for verifying the general condition for commutativity of fractional-order LTVSs under zero initial conditions (ICs) and prove it mathematically. Based on our findings, we realized that the commutative requirements, properties, theories, and conditions are general for fractional-order LTVSs, please observed that some fractional-order LTVSs are commutative, some are not commutative, while some are commutative under certain conditions. Based on this fact, we can say that not all fractional-order LTVSs are commutative.We apply explicit commutative results to several examples of fractional-order LTVSs. Our theoretical and simulation results show a good agreement and prove that our fractional-order LTVSs are commutative under certain conditions, moreover, the commutativity property holds for certain conditions and classes of fractional-order LTVSs, but not for others. Background: Valid diagnostic tests for human papillomavirus (HPV) detection are crucial to identify individuals at high risk of cervical cancer. We assessed and compared the validity of Mehrviru HPV genotyping and Sacace (HPV Genotypes 14 Real-TM Quant) for molecular detection of 14 high-risk human papillomaviruses. Methods: We used three HPV test results to identify HPV-positive individuals (14 high-risk genotypes) in a specialist gynecology clinic. The HPV test results were collected using Mehrviru®, Sacace®, and a third kit from the clinical diagnostic laboratory. We used Latent class analysis to determine the actual status of HPV infection in study participants. The sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values, positive and negative likelihood ratios, Youden, and area under the ROC curve indices of each diagnostic kit and their 95% confidence intervals were calculated. The agreement between the Mehrviru and Sacace kits was determined using the Kappa statistic. Results: We examined 117 women at high risk of HPV infection. The mean age (SD) was 37.2 (9.1). According to LCA, 28.6% of participants had an HPV infection. The sensitivity and specificity (95% CI) of the Mehrviru were 90.8% (73.7-97.2%) and 90.9% (82.1-95.6%), and corresponding figures for Sacace were 92.0% (72.3-98.1%) and 97.4% (90.2-99.3%). The kappa index between the Mehrviru and Sacace kits was 69.7% (55.6-83.9%). The area under the ROC curve for Mehrviru and Sacace test were 91.4% (85.7-97.1%) and 94.4% (89.3-99.5%). Background: Chronic wasting disease (CWD) is a fatal transmissible spongiform encephalopathy in cervids. The disease is caused by a pathogenic prion, namely PrPSc. Currently, diagnosis of CWD relies on IHC detection of PrPSc in the obex or retropharyngeal lymph nodes (RPLN) or ELISA screening of obex and RPLN followed by IHC confirmation of positive results. In this study, we assessed the performance characteristics of two immunoassays: CWD Ag-ELISA and TeSeE ELISA, RT-QuIC, and MEMS biosensor via testing 30 CWD + and 30 CWD- white-tailed deer RPLN samples. Results: Both CWD Ag-ELISA and TeSeE ELISA correctly identified all CWD + and CWD- samples. A greater intra-assay coefficient of variation (CV) in S/P ratios was observed for the TeSeE ELISA (16.52%), compared to CWD Ag-ELISA (9.49%). However, the high CV did not affect the qualitative results of triplicate assays when the corresponding manufacturer's cutoff was used. The MEMS biosensor not only correctly identified all CWD + and CWD- RPLN samples, but also demonstrated a 100% detection rate for all CWD + samples at dilutions from 10− 0 to 10− 3. Evaluation of RT-QuIC indicated that the rate of false negative reactions decreased from 21.98% at 10− 2 dilution to 0% at 10− 4 and 10− 5 dilutions; and the rate of false positive reactions reduced from 56.42% at 10− 2 dilution to 8.89% and 2.22% at 10− 4 and 10− 5 dilutions, respectively. Based on a stringent threshold of 2 x the first 10 fluorescent readings of each well and a final cutoff of 2/3 positive reactions for each sample, RT-QuIC correctly identified all positive and negative samples at 10− 4 and 10− 5 dilutions. Both MEMS biosensor and RT-QuIC achieved 100% sensitivity and 100% specificity under the experimental conditions described in this study. Conclusions: The two immunoassays (CWD Ag-ELISA and TeSeE ELISA) performed comparably on white-tailed deer RPLN samples. MEMS biosensor is a reliable portable tool for CWD diagnosis and RT-QuIC can be used for routine testing of CWD if appropriate testing parameters and interpretive criteria are applied. Despite advancements in medical technology, the challenges of diagnosing fever of unknown origin (FUO) and inflammation of unknown origin (IUO) persist. Positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) has been used to assess these conditions; however, it is unclear which patients most benefit from this approach. This study aimed to assess the clinical value and optimal use of fluorine-18-labelled-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG)-PET/CT in patients with FUO/IUO. We reviewed FDG-PET/CT scans conducted at our department between January 2014 and December 2020 to further assess FUO/IUO. FUO was defined as a fever lasting over three weeks without a diagnosis based on conventional assessment. IUO was defined as prolonged inflammation with a body temperature below 38.3 ℃ and without a diagnosis after conventional diagnostic procedures. The efficacy of FDG-PET/CT was determined based on the diagnostic outcomes achieved by integrating imaging findings with histopathological or microbiological evidence, clinical criteria, or follow-up assessments. We conducted crude and age-sex adjusted logistic regression for potential risk factors to determine the degree of burden on demographic and clinical characteristics. Forty-five patients with FUO/IUO underwent FDG-PET/CT, and final diagnoses were made in 32 patients (71.1%). The percentages of diagnostic categories were 53.3%, 8.9%, and 6.7% for non-infectious inflammatory diseases, malignancy, and infection, respectively. In multivariable logistic regression analysis, IUO was the only independent predictor of the efficacy of FDG-PET/CT in the final diagnosis (odds ratio, 67.02; 95% confidence interval, 4.02–1119). Objective: This study aims to gain a deeper understanding of the patterns of allergen detection positivity rates among different age and gender groups, and to explore cross-reactivity patterns among allergens. Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of patients who underwent allergen testing at our hospital. The sample for this study included all patients who underwent allergen testing. We utilized immune blotting to detect specific IgE antibodies to 20 allergens in patient sera. Results: The study results showed a higher proportion of female samples (72.35%) compared to male samples (27.65%). Among all participants, the age distribution was primarily concentrated in the 25–35 age group, accounting for 37.43% of the total sample, followed by the 45 years and older age group, accounting for 27.00%. This indicates that allergic symptoms may occur not only in children and adolescents but also at any time after adulthood. We further observed significant influences of factors such as gender and age on individual sensitivity to specific allergens. For example, compared to males, females were found to be more sensitive to certain allergens such as cat hair, dust mites, and dog epithelium. Similarly, we also found variations in sensitivity to specific allergens among different age groups. Conclusion: Close monitoring of allergen distribution in populations facilitates active engagement of allergic individuals in self-management, while gender and age may be important factors influencing individual sensitivity to specific allergens. Accurate detection is a prerequisite for effective prevention and control of Mycoplasma synoviae infection. ELISA is the most popular method for the clinical detection of M. synoviae because of its convenience, low cost, and high detection rate. However, the cross-reactivity of commercially available ELISA kits with other avian pathogen-positive sera needs to be addressed. The aim of this study was to establish an ELISA method with high specificity for the detection of anti- M. synoviae antibodies in chicken serum to evaluate the M. synoviae infection status on poultry farms. The recombinant MS087 (rMS087) protein was expressed in Escherichia coli BL21 (DE3) and purified by Ni2+ affinity chromatography. An antibody against rMS087 was generated by immunizing BALB/c mice. Bioinformatic analysis revealed that MS087 was conserved among M. synoviae strains. Western blotting and indirect immunofluorescence results indicated that MS087 was not only localized in the cytoplasm and on the membrane but also secreted by the organism. For the established ELISA method based on rMS087, the optimal antigen concentration, blocking buffer, blocking duration, serum dilution, serum incubation duration, secondary antibody dilution, secondary antibody incubation duration and colorimetric reaction duration were 2 μg/mL, 1% BSA, 3 h, 1:500, 1.5 h, 1:20,000, 2 h and 5 min, respectively. Validation of the rMS087-based ELISA revealed a cut-off value of 0.5. The coefficients of variation of both the intra-batch and inter-batch methods were less than 9%. The assay was able to differentiate positive serum against M. synoviae from antisera against nine other avian pathogens and was able to recognize M. synoviae -positive sera at a dilution of 1:1,000. Compared with the commercial ELISA method, the rMS087-based ELISA has the potential to recognize more positive sera against M. synoviae. Collectively, the rMS087-based ELISA is a reproducible, specific, and sensitive serological method for detecting antibodies against M. synoviae in chicken serum and has robust potential for large-scale serological epidemiology of M. synoviae infection on poultry farms. Background: Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) accounts for the highest proportion of lung cancers; however, specific biomarkers are lacking for diagnosis, treatment, and prognostic assessment. Cell division cycle-associated 8 (CDCA8) is a cell cycle regulator with elevated expression in various cancers. However, the association between CDCA8 expression and LUAD prognosis remains unclear. Methods: The association between CDCA8 and LUAD prognosis was evaluated based on the The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) dataset, and CDCA8 related functions were determined using gene enrichment and gene ontology analyses. We also analyzed the association between CDCA8 expression and immune cell infiltration. Immunohistochemistry was used to determine the differential expression of CDCA8 in tumors and controls. Finally, we evaluated the differences in the sensitivity of different levels of CDCA8 to different anticancer drugs in LUAD. Results: CDCA8 expression was significantly higher in primary LUAD tumors than in normal tissues (P < 0.001). Moreover, Kaplan–Meier survival analysis demonstrated that high CDCA8 expression predicted poor survival in patients with LUAD (P = 0.006). The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves indicated that CDCA8 was an effective guide for the diagnosis of LUAD. Functional annotation indicated that CDCA8 might be involved in functions such as p53 stabilization, nucleotide metabolism, RNA-mediated gene silencing, and the G2/M phase checkpoint. Immune infiltration results suggested that CDCA8 was positively correlated with Th2 cells and Tgd and negatively correlated with Eosinophils and Mast cells (P < 0.01). In addition, elevated expression of CDCA8 may increase the sensitivity of patients to certain anticancer drugs. Conclusions: CDCA8 upregulation is significantly associated with poor survival and immune infiltration in patients with LUAD. Objective: Physical activity (PA) plays an important role in human health. However, the relationship between the PA and dysthyreosis was not clear. This study aimed to explore this question. Methods: We performed a population-based study on the basis of the participant's information that was collected from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database. The association of the thyroid hormone and total PA metabolic equivalent task (MET) were assessed via linear regression analysis with adjusting for different covariates. Moreover, we also used path analysis to explore the causality between PA, thyroid hormone index, and dysthyreosis. The restricted cubic spline analysis was used to explore the non-linear relationship between the thyroid hormone index and the PA total MET. Results: A total of 2118 participants aged≥20, including 969 females and 1149 males, were collected from NHANES. The linear regression with multivariate adjustment suggested a linear relationship between the PA total MET and Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone Index (TSHI), and Thyroid Feedback Quantile-Based Index (TFQI), respectively. And TFQI and dysthyresis occurrence were significantly correlated (P<0.05). The path analysis showed that the PA total MET affected dysthyreosis occurrence by TFQI. In addition, we found a non-linear relationship between the total PA met and dysthyreosis via restricted cubic spline analysis. Conclusions: PA was significantly correlated with dysthyreosis via thyroid hormone sensitivity. Therefore, it can be considered to prevent the occurrence of dysthyreosis by regulating thyroid hormone sensitivity through PA in daily life. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Senecavirus A (SVA) is a newly pathogenic virus correlated with the acute death of piglets and vesicular lesions in pigs. The further prevalence of SVA will cause considerable economic damage to the global pig farming industry. Therefore, rapid and accurate diagnostic tools for SVA are crucial for preventing and controlling the disease. Methods: We designed multiple primer pairs targeting the most conserved region of the SVA 3D gene and selected those with the highest specificity. Nfo-probes were subsequently developed based on the highest specificity primer pairs. Subsequently, the recombinase-assisted amplification (RAA) reaction was completed, and the reaction temperature and duration were optimized. The RAA amplicons were detected using a lateral flow device (LFD). Finally, a rapid and intuitive RAA-LFD assay was established against SVA. Results: The SVA RAA-LFD assay can be performed under reaction conditions of 35°C within 17 minutes, with results observable to the naked eye. We then evaluated the performance of this method. It exhibited high specificity and no cross-reaction with the other common swine pathogens. The lowest detectable limits of this method for the plasmid of pMD18-SVA-3D, DNA amplification product, and viral were 3.86×101 copies/µL, 8.76×10-7 ng/µL, and 1×100.25 TCID50/mL, respectively. A total of 44 clinical samples were then tested using the RAA-LFD, PCR, and RT-qPCR methods. The results demonstrated a consistent detection rate between the RAA-LFD and RT-qPCR assays. Conclusion: The SVA RAA-LFD assay developed in our study exhibits excellent specificity, sensitivity, and time-saving attributes, making it ideally suited for utilization in lack-instrumented laboratory and field settings. Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of X-rays in detecting osteoarthritis (OA) in comparison to MRI. Study Design: Cross-sectional study. Setting: The Fauji Foundation Hospital, Rawalpindi. Period: August, 2023 to March, 2024. Methods: Total 350 patients consented to clinical interviews, physical examinations, standing radiographs, and MRIs. Standing, semi-flexed posteroanterior radiographs of the knees were obtained with proper alignment to accurately detect joint space narrowing. Manual measurements of joint space width were conducted by a blinded orthopedic surgeon using the Kellgren-Lawrence grading system. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 23, with frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations calculated for relevant variables. Diagnostic accuracy was assessed using a 2x2 table. Results: Of the 350 patients, 61.1% were up to 60 years old, and 38.9% were over 60 years old. Among those with positive MRI results, 70.1% also had a positive X-ray, while 29.6% did not. Cohen's Kappa was 0.377, indicating fair to moderate agreement. Sensitivity was 54.3%, specificity 82.4%, positive predictive value 70.1%, and negative predictive value 70.4%, with an overall diagnostic accuracy of 70.3%. Conclusion: X-rays demonstrated high specificity and moderate predictive values, but low sensitivity, suggesting that some OA cases may be missed if relying solely on X-rays. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Early risk stratification tools for COVID-19 patients have been indicated yet there are few data about their ability to effectively detect clinical deterioration among COVID-19 patients. Objectives: To evaluate the NEWS-2 to predict severe morbidity and mortality for COVID-19 patients admitted to hospitals. Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort study among adult COVID-19 patients with a confirmed diagnosis who were admitted to the inpatient units at COVID-19 Martyrs Medical Military Complex Hospital, from 1 March 2022, until 29 February 2023. NEWS-2 scores were measured at admission and 6, 12, 24, and 48 h after their admission to the hospital using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Results: Overall, 192 adult COVID-19 patients aged 25–94 years (mean = 62.1, SD = 13.9) were enrolled. Of those, 49.0% were males, 47.4% were vaccinated, and 53.6% had diabetes. The 192 enrolled patients were classified into NEWS-2 score categories, with almost 13% (12.5%) falling into the high-risk category already upon admission. The mean NEWS-2 scores were excellent predictors of mechanical ventilation, admission to the ICU, and mortality, as indicated by an AUROC of 0.94 (95% CI: 0.88–1.00, p < 0.001), 0.91 (95% CI: 0.87–0.96, p < 0.001), and 0.96 (95% CI: 0.92–1.00, p < 0.001), respectively. Significant differences in mean NEWS-2 scores were found between the participating patients, both with and without comorbidity in the course of the patient's stay in the ICU, and mortality (p = 0.004, p = 0.043, respectively). Positive correlations of the high NEWS-2 scores were revealed using a multiple linear regression model, indicating the necessity of administering non-invasive ventilatory assistance (p = 0.013), hospitalization for a minimum of six days (p = 0.013), and admission to the ICU (p = 0.006). Nonetheless, there was a negative association between mortality and the NEWS-2 score (p < 0.001). Conclusions: The NEWS-2 had moderate sensitivity and specificity in predicting the deterioration of patients with COVID-19 whereas there was high sensitivity and specificity in predicting the mortality for patients with COVID-19, both with and without comorbidity. Our findings support the utility of NEWS-2 monitoring as a sensitive approach for initially assessing COVID-19 patients. Within this manuscript, we provide a novel Fano resonance-driven micro-nanosensor. Its primary structural components are a metal-insulator-metal (MIM) waveguide, a shield with three disks, and a T-shaped cavity (STDTC). The finite element approach was used to study the gadget in theory. It is found that the adjustment of the structure and the change of the dimensions are closely related to the sensitivity (S) and the quality factor (FOM). Different model structural parameters affect the Fano resonance, which in turn changes the transmission characteristics of the resonator. Through in-depth experimental analysis and selection of appropriate parameters, the sensor sensitivity finally reaches 3020 nm/RIU and the quality factor reaches 51.89. Furthermore, the installation of this microrefractive index sensor allows for the quick and sensitive measurement of glucose levels. It is a positive contribution to the field of optical devices and micro-nano sensors and meets the demand for efficient detection when applied in medical and environmental scenarios. A series of Tb3+-activated Ca 2 BB'O 6 (B = Y, Gd, La, and In; B' = Ta and Nb) double-perovskite phosphors with yellowish-green emission were synthesized to explore the beneficial occupation site and chemical composition for realizing strong emission intensity and high luminescence lifetime sensitivity. Interestingly, all the as-prepared eight samples have the same monoclinic phase structure. Notably, all the obtained samples had a strong excitation peak (4f 8 → 4f 7 5d) while the dominant emission peak was assigned to the 5 D 4 → 7 F 5 magnetic dipole transition. By analyzing the photoluminescence (PL) emission intensity and internal PL quantum yield, it is suggested that Ta5+ chemical composition can achieve stronger emission intensity than Nb5+, and further, the preferred substituted occupation was the [InO 6 ] at the 2a site. However, the opposite results were observed in the application of the luminescence lifetime thermometry. The luminescence sensitivity of the Nb5+ chemical composition was much more excellent than Ta5+ while the substituted occupation of [InO 6 ] had the lowest luminescence sensitivity. Interestingly, it is also found that strong thermal quenching materials with a short average lifetime can possess high lifetime sensitivity. This work aims to systematically and comprehensively investigate the occupation site and chemical composition's effect on the PL performance and luminescence lifetime sensitivity of the single Tb3+-activated Ca 2 BB'O 6 double-perovskite matrices. A new nanothermite system, composed of titanium and tungsten trioxide is reported. Initial investigations show that it has low-average sensitivity to mechanical stimuli (friction, impact), but that its sensitivity to laser irradiation can be controlled in a moderately wide range. The combustion of this nanothermite system takes place at a very high apparent temperature (> 3695 K) and it follows the key predictions of the established reactive sintering mechanism, as supported by SEM-EDS and XRD analyses. A p-type (DiketoPyrroloPyrrole as organic semiconductor) Dual Gate OFET based biosensor is proposed for the detection of biomolecules in the nanocavity provided at the source end underlapping the region of the structure both at the top and at the bottom. Various biomolecules have been investigated for their effect on Drain current, ID which is a measure of sensitivity of the device. This device is then compared with different organic p-type semiconductor materials such as pentacene and tetracene based OFET biosensor. Drain current and sensitivity of these devices have also been calculated which shows that DPP (DiketoPyrroloPyrrole) based OFET biosensor has higher sensitivity of 3.0 x 10³ as compared to pentacene and tetracene based OFET biosensors. Simulation of these devices has been done in SILVACO ATLAS TCAD tool. Oil spills pose significant threats to marine and coastal ecosystems, necessitating advanced methodologies for environmental sensitivity and vulnerability assessments. This study enhances existing frameworks to better manage oil spill risks in the Caspian Sea, a region characterized by its ecological sensitivity and economic dependence on oil extraction. Utilizing the Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI), we adapted global standards to the unique conditions of the Caspian Sea and built a sensitivity map of the coastline, which later became one of the components of the integral sensitivity map for the entire Caspian Sea, which includes several biotic and abiotic components. We also developed a comprehensive geodatabase incorporating topographic, infrastructural, and hydrodynamic data. Through the sophisticated modeling of oil spill scenarios using the Oil Spill model of the MIKE 21 software (Release 2016) suite, we simulated spills of varying magnitudes to analyze their potential impacts on the marine and coastal environment. The results enabled the creation of vulnerability maps, pinpointing areas at highest risk and facilitating strategic response planning. Our study demonstrates the critical importance of integrating advanced geospatial analyses and dynamic modeling techniques to improve oil spill preparedness and response strategies. Background: Pancreatitis is a serious and complex inflammatory disease that imposes a severe effect on quality of life. Links between plasma lipidome and pancreatitis have been reported, some of which have not yet been clearly elucidated. Methods: Therefore, our study aimed to investigate the causal relationships between plasma lipidome and four types of pancreatitis by conducting a bidirectional, two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis. We obtained genetic variants associated with 179 lipid species from a Genome-wide association analysis of plasma lipidome. The aggregated statistical data of acute pancreatitis (AP), alcohol-induced acute pancreatitis (AAP), chronic pancreatitis (CP), and alcohol-induced chronic pancreatitis (ACP) from the FinnGen consortium were exploited as the outcome. The inverse variance weighted (IVW) technique as the main method was used for MR analysis and sensitivity analyses were used to evaluate heterogeneity and pleiotropy. Results: After FDR correction, SE (27:1/20:4) (OR = 0.938, 95%CI = 0.906-0.972, P = 4.38 × 10-4, PFDR = 0.039) was identified to be significantly associated with AP risk. ABSTRACT Background Aims Methods Results Conclusions The Rome IV criteria for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) may be too restrictive for clinical practice and research.To validate the Rome IV criteria and study the diagnostic performance of simple modifications to them.We collected symptom data from consecutive adults with suspected IBS seen in a single clinic. We used a reference standard to confirm IBS (presence of lower abdominal pain associated with altered stool form or frequency; no evidence of organic gastrointestinal disease after limited investigation). We applied Rome IV criteria, but also two modifications. First, we re‐incorporated abdominal discomfort but kept symptom frequency required for both abdominal pain and discomfort to at least 1 day per week. Second, we included only abdominal pain but relaxed symptom frequency back to 3 days per month. We calculated sensitivity, specificity and positive and negative likelihood ratios (LRs), with 95% confidence intervals (CIs), for each diagnostic criterion.We recruited 170 patients (76.5% female, mean age 37.9 years). Sensitivity and specificity of the Rome IV criteria were 82.1% and 85.1%, respectively; positive and negative LRs were 5.51 (95% CI 2.95–11.3) and 0.21 (95% CI 0.14–0.31), respectively. Modifying the criteria by relaxing the frequency of abdominal pain to 3 days per month led to the best performance [sensitivity 90.2%, specificity 85.1%, positive LR 6.06 (95% CI 3.25–12.2), and negative LR 0.11 (95% CI 0.07–0.19)].The Rome IV criteria performed well in diagnosing IBS. Background: Toxocara canis and Toxocara cati are parasitic nematodes that occur worldwide. As embryonated Toxocara spp. eggs in the environment pose a zoonotic risk, especially for children, optimal diagnostic approaches are necessary for effective disease response and management, including surveillance. However, little is known about the performance of different diagnostic protocols for detecting Toxocara spp. in the faeces of cats and dogs, hampering movement towards an optimal diagnostic process. This study aimed to compare detection methods, including a newly developed sequential sieving protocol (SF-SSV) and a high-throughput multiplex qPCR-based method to facilitate epidemiological studies. Methods: Species-specific Toxocara spp. egg suspensions and canine and feline faecal samples from the field were used to estimate analytical and diagnostic sensitivity of the protocols. The performance of two automated DNA extraction protocols using enzymatic and mechanical lysis were compared by multiplex qPCR, targeting both T. canis and T. cati-specific genomic sequences. All samples were examined by microscopy-based techniques, the sedimentation flotation technique (SF) and a newly developed SF-SSV for the detection, enrichment and purification of parasite eggs. The costs and processing times necessary for all protocols were estimated and compared for both single samples and sets of 100 samples. Results: To detect Toxocara spp. eggs, SF-SSV showed the highest analytical sensitivity and a significantly higher diagnostic sensitivity than the DNA detection methods. Mechanical lysis performed better than enzymatic lysis for automated DNA extraction. In automated DNA extraction, 96-well plates performed better than 24-well plates. DNA detection and microscopy-based parasitological methods showed substantial agreement between the results generated by each method. Microscopy-based techniques required the lowest costs and least hands-on time for a single sample. However, when costs and labour were estimated for a set of 100 samples, the DNA detection protocol using 96-well plates for extraction revealed costs similar to SF-SSV and the fastest processing times. Conclusions: SF-SSV was superior in terms of analytical and diagnostic sensitivity for the detection of Toxocara spp. eggs. For larger sets of samples, multiplex qPCR-based DNA detection represents an alternative to microscopy-based methods, based on the possibility of faster sample processing at similar costs to SF-SSV, and the ability to provide species-specific diagnoses. This study delves into the often‐overlooked impact of immature mosquitoes on the dynamics of malaria transmission. By employing a mathematical model, we explore how these aquatic stages of the vector shape the spread of the disease. Our analytical findings are corroborated through numerical simulations conducted using the Runge–Kutta fourth‐order method in MATLAB. Our research highlights a critical factor in malaria epidemiology: the basic reproduction number R0. We demonstrate that when R0 is below unity R0<1, the disease‐free equilibrium exhibits local asymptotic stability. Conversely, when R0 surpasses unity R0>1, the disease‐free equilibrium becomes unstable, potentially resulting in sustained malaria transmission. The mathematical modeling of infectious diseases plays a vital role in understanding and predicting disease transmission, as underscored by recent global outbreaks; to delve deep into the dynamic of infectious disease considering latent period presciently is inevitable as it bridges the gap between realistic nature and mathematical modeling. This study extended the classical Susceptible–Infected–Recovered (SIR) model by incorporating vaccination strategies during incubation. We introduced multiple time delays to an account incubation period to capture realistic disease dynamics better. The model is formulated as a system of delay differential equations that describe the transmission dynamics of diseases such as polio or COVID-19, or diseases for which vaccination exists. Critical aspects of the study include proving the positivity of the model's solutions, calculating the basic reproduction number ( R 0 ) using next-generation matrix theory, and identifying disease-free and endemic equilibrium points. The local stability of these equilibria is then analyzed using the Routh–Hurwitz criterion. Due to the complexity introduced by the delay components, we examine the stability by studying the roots of a fourth-degree exponential polynomial. The effects of educational campaigns and vaccination efficacy are also investigated as control measures. Furthermore, an optimization problem is formulated, based on Pontryagin's maximum principle, to minimize the number of infections and associated intervention costs. Numerical simulations of the delay differential equations are conducted, and a modified Runge–Kutta method with delays is used to solve the optimal control problem. In this paper, we propose an ultrascaled WS2 field-effect transistor equipped with a Pd/Pt sensitive gate for high-performance and low-power hydrogen gas sensing applications. The proposed nanosensor is simulated by self-consistently solving a quantum transport equation with electrostatics at the ballistic limit. The gas sensing principle is based on the gas-induced change in the metal gate work function. The hydrogen gas nanosensor leverages the high sensitivity of two-dimensional WS2 to its sur-rounding electrostatic environment. The computational investigation encompasses the nanosensor's behavior in terms of potential profile, charge density, current spectrum, local density of states (LDOS), transfer characteristics, and sensitivity. Additionally, the downscaling-sensitivity trade-off is analyzed by considering the impact of drain-to-source voltage and the electrostatics parameters on subthreshold performance. The simulation results indicate that the downscaling-sensitivity trade-off can be optimized through enhancements in electrostatics, such as utilizing high-k dielectrics and reducing oxide thickness, as well as applying a low drain-to-source voltage, which also contributes to improved energy efficiency. Monitoring stress and strain at the critical details of steel bridges is essential for ensuring structural integrity. This study introduces a three‐layer flexible strain sensor produced through a spraying process, using flake‐shaped silver‐coated copper powder as the conductive filler and modified acrylic emulsion as the matrix material. The study investigated the impact of size parameters on sensor sensitivity, determining optimal dimensions of 20 mm in length, 2 mm in width, and an initial resistance value ranging from 1.0 Ω to 1.8 Ω. Analysis of the optimized sensor's performance unveiled high sensitivity and linear response capabilities under low strain conditions with a gauge factor (GF) value of up to 25.6 and a linear correlation coefficient R2 ≥ 0.971 under 300 με. Notably, the sensor exhibits an extremely low strain detection limit of 0.005% and a broad response range spanning from 0.005% to 0.19% strain. It demonstrates swift response and recovery times of 500–800 ms, showcases directional strain response, exhibits good repeatability, and endures durability tests (withstanding 3000 cycles). Furthermore, a fitting formula is proposed to accurately depict the strain and relative resistance change relationship across a wide response range. Background: Troponin elevation is frequently observed in various scenarios in the Emergency Department (ED), yet there is a paucity of studies investigating simultaneously measured high-sensitivity cardiac troponin T (hs-cTnT) and troponin I (hs-cTnI) within a diverse cohort in a clinical setting. Methods: All patients who underwent troponin testing at a single center were eligible for this study. Only patients with simultaneous samples with hs-cTnI (Siemens) and hs-cTnT (Roche) were included, regardless of chief complaint. Results: Analysis of 1987 samples from 1134 patients showed a significant correlation between hs-cTnT and hs-cTnI (r = 0.86, p < 0.01). Of these samples, 65% exceeded the upper reference limit (URL) for hs-cTnT, and 30% for hs-cTnI with 39% who exhibited elevated hs-cTnT levels alongside normal hs-cTnI levels. The area under the curve (AUC) for acute myocardial infarction (AMI) for the index visit was 0.80 (95% CI; 0.75–0.85) for hs-cTnT and 0.87 (95% CI; 0.83–0.91) for hs-cTnI. Sensitivity and specificity were 91% and 39% for hs-cTnT, and 80% and 80% for hs-cTnI. Positive predictive value (PPV) and negative predictive value (NPV) was 9.3% and 98.5% for hs-cTnT respectively, corresponding for hs-cTnI was 21.3% and 98.3% respectively. Hazard ratios for 1-year mortality were 1.52 (95% CI; 1.40–1.66) for hs-cTnT and 1.26 (95% CI; 1.18–1.34) for hs-cTnI. Background: Drug combination treatments have proven to be a realistic technique for treating challenging diseases such as cancer by enhancing efficacy and mitigating side effects. To achieve the therapeutic goals of these combinations, it is essential to employ multi-targeted drug combinations, which maximize effectiveness and synergistic effects. Results: This paper proposes 'MultiComb', a multi-task deep learning (MTDL) model designed to simultaneously predict the synergy and sensitivity of drug combinations. The model utilizes a graph convolution network to represent the Simplified Molecular-Input Line-Entry (SMILES) of two drugs, generating their respective features. Also, three fully connected subnetworks extract features of the cancer cell line. These drug and cell line features are then concatenated and processed through an attention mechanism, which outputs two optimized feature representations for the target tasks. The cross-stitch model learns the relationship between these tasks. At last, each learned task feature is fed into fully connected subnetworks to predict the synergy and sensitivity scores. The proposed model is validated using the O'Neil benchmark dataset, which includes 38 unique drugs combined to form 17,901 drug combination pairs and tested across 37 unique cancer cells. The model's performance is tested using some metrics like mean square error ( MSE ), mean absolute error ( MAE ), coefficient of determination ( R 2 ), Spearman, and Pearson scores. The mean synergy scores of the proposed model are 232.37, 9.59, 0.57, 0.76, and 0.73 for the previous metrics, respectively. Also, the values for mean sensitivity scores are 15.59, 2.74, 0.90, 0.95, and 0.95, respectively. Conclusion: This paper proposes an MTDL model to predict synergy and sensitivity scores for drug combinations targeting specific cancer cell lines. Species distribution models (SDMs) are widely used to project how species distributions may vary over time, particularly in response climate change. Although the fit of such models to current distributions is regularly enumerated, SDMs are rarely tested across longer time spans to gauge their actual performance under environmental change. Here, we utilise paleozoological presence/absence records to independently assess the predictive accuracy of SDMs through time. To illustrate the approach, we focused on modelling the Holocene distribution of the hartebeest, Alcelaphus buselaphus, a widespread savannah‐adapted African antelope. We applied various modelling algorithms to three occurrence datasets, including a point dataset from online repositories and two range maps representing current and 'natural' (i.e. hypothetical assuming no human impact) distributions. We compared conventional model evaluation metrics which assess fit to current distributions (i.e. True Skill Statistic, TSSc, and Area Under the Curve, AUCc) to analogous 'paleometrics' for past distributions (i.e. TSSp, AUCp, and in addition Boycep, F2‐scorep and Sorensenp). Our findings reveal only a weak correlation between the ranking of conventional metrics and paleometrics, suggesting that the models most effectively capturing present‐day distributions may not be the most reliable to hindcast historical distributions, and that the choice of input data and modelling algorithm both significantly influences environmental suitability predictions and SDM performance. We thus advocate assessment of model performance using paleometrics, particularly those capturing the correct prediction of presences, such as F2‐scorep or Sorensenp, due to the potential unreliability of absence data in paleozoological records. By integrating archaeological and paleontological records into the assessment of alternative models' ability to project shifts in species distributions over time, we are likely to enhance our understanding of environmental constraints on species distributions. This paper explores the exact solutions of the fractional Hirota–Satsuma coupled KdV (fHScKdV) equation in the Beta fractional derivative. Simple Summary: The widespread use of broad-spectrum insecticides reduces the capabilities of ecological self-regulation of phytophages in agrocoenoses and in the adjacent natural territories. Those ecosystems suffer disruption of trophic relations that have been forming over long periods of time. At the same time, the numbers of non-target invertebrates affected by pesticides are declining. Pirimiphos-methyl is one of the cheapest, most effective, and widely used insecticides in the world. Its effect on invertebrate species is useful for agriculture; however, its effect on arthropods that improve soil fertility remains virtually unstudied. This article establishes that this insecticide can have a strong effect on some species useful for plant growing and a weak effect on others. As a result of such an effect of pirimiphos-methyl, the taxonomic structure of invertebrate communities in agrocenoses should change dramatically. The use of this insecticide in fields gives an advantage to species that are relatively more resistant to it and causes a faster disappearance of sensitive invertebrate species. The effects of pirimiphos-methyl have previously been assessed on blood-sucking insect species, pollinating insects, and target crop pest species. The sensitivity of non-target zoophagous and saprophage species to this insecticide remains largely unstudied. In laboratory conditions, we assessed the susceptibility of 43 species of invertebrates to pirimiphos-methyl. The most tolerant species to this insecticide were Pyrrhocoris apterus (LC50 measured over 60 mg/m2), Cylindroiulus truncorum, Pterostichus niger, Harpalus rufipes, Lithobius forficatus, and Carabus hortensis (LC50 ranged from 25 to 50 mg/m2). Average tolerance to pirimiphos-methyl was displayed by Ophonus rufibarbis, Teuchestes fossor, Silpha carinata, Badister sodalis, Rugilus rufipes, Phosphuga atrata, Porcellio laevis, Pterostichus oblongopunctatus, Aphodius foetens, Lasius fuliginosus, Oxypselaphus obscurus, Platydracus fulvipes, Myrmica ruginodis, Xantholinus tricolor, and Megaphyllum sp. (LC50 for those species ranged from 12 to 24 mg/m2). Higher sensitivity to this insecticide was seen for Amara nitida, Leistus ferrugineus, Harpalus xanthopus winkleri, Philonthus nitidus, Pterostichus melanarius, Harpalus latus, Limodromus assimilis, Philonthus decorus, Tachinus signatus, Ponera coarctata, Carabus convexus, Philonthus coprophilus, Philonthus laevicollis, Platydracus latebricola, Labia minor, and Carabus granulatus (LC50 for those species ranged from 6 to 12 mg/m2). The greatest sensitivity to pirimiphos-methyl was observed in Hister fenestus, Drusilla canaliculata, Bisnius fimetarius, Oxytelus sculptus, Lasius niger, and Lasius flavus (LC50 ranged from 0.4 to 6 mg/m2). We found a relationship between the parameters of bodies of invertebrates (the average body length and dry body mass) and sensitivity to pirimiphos-methyl. With an increase in body sizes of invertebrates, the tolerance to the insecticide increased (per each mm of body length, LC50 increased by 0.82 mg/m2 on average). One key source of uncertainty for weather and climate models is structural uncertainty arising from the fact that these models must simplify or approximate complex physical, chemical, and biological processes that occur in the real world. However, structural uncertainty is rarely examined in the context of simulated effects of anthropogenic heat flux in cities. Using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model coupled with a single‐layer urban canopy model, it is found that the sensitivity of urban canopy air temperature to anthropogenic heat flux can differ by an order of magnitude depending on how anthropogenic heat flux is released to the urban environment. Moreover, varying model structures through changing the treatment of roof‐air interaction and the parameterization of convective heat transfer between the canopy air and the atmosphere can affect the sensitivity of urban canopy air temperature by a factor of 4. Urban surface temperature and 2‐m air temperature are less sensitive to the methods of anthropogenic heat flux release and the examined model structural variants than urban canopy air temperature, but their sensitivities to anthropogenic heat flux can still vary by as much as a factor of 4 for surface temperature and 2 for 2‐m air temperature. Our study recommends using temperature sensitivity instead of temperature response to understand how various physical processes (and their representations in numerical models) modulate the simulated effects of anthropogenic heat flux. Anti-AAV neutralizing Abs (NAbs) titer is usually measured by cell-based microneutralization (MN) assay and is crucial for patient screening in AAV-based gene therapy clinical trials. However, achieving uniform operation and comparable results among different laboratories remains challenging. Here, we established a standardized MN assay for anti-AAV9 NAbs in human sera or plasma and transferred the method to the other two research teams. Then, we validated its parameters and tested a set of eight human samples in blind across all laboratories. The end-point titer, defined by a transduction inhibition of 50% (IC50), was calculated using curve-fit modelling. A mouse neutralizing monoclonal antibody in human negative serum was used for system quality control (QC), requiring inter-assay titer variation of <4-fold difference or geometric coefficient of variation (%GCV) of <50%. The assay demonstrated a sensitivity of 54 ng/mL and no cross-reactivity to 20 μg/mL anti-AAV8 MoAb. The intra-assay and inter-assay variation for the low positive QC were 7–35% and 22–41%, respectively. The titers of the blind samples showed excellent reproducibility within and among laboratories, with a %GCV of 18–59% and 23–46%, respectively. Background: Renal stone disease is a common medical issue in many regions, leading to significant morbidity and loss of man hours. The disease predominantly affects the economically active population, thus having a socio economic impact. Unlike in the West, where detailed demographic data is available, India lacks comprehensive records on this condition. The prevailing theory is that kidney stones often serve as repositories for bacteria. The question which arises is whether bacterial infection is a precursor to or a result of stone formation. Multiple factors contributing to stone formation have been noted by various researchers. The healthcare burden in the United States alone includes over 185,000 hospital admissions and expenditures surpassing $2 billion annually. Supersaturation of calcium and oxalate in urine, exceeding their solubility limits, have been identified as a primary factor. This study evaluates the bacteriological profile of cultures derived from renal stones and their antibiotic sensitivities to better understand the microbial involvement in stone pathogenesis. Methods: This is a prospective, observational study aimed at analyzing the culture and sensitivity patterns of renal stones obtained from patients undergoing percutaneous and ureteroscopic stone extraction over a period of 18 months. Results: Out of 120 patients studied, 34 patients (28.3%) were culture positive. Of there, coagulase negative staphylococcus isolates noted in 9 patients (26.5%), E. coli was the next most common isolate seen in 8 patients (23.5%). Pseudomonas was noted in 6 patients (17.6%), other organisms in 5 patients (14.7%). Acinetobacter was isolated in 1 patient. Analysis of antibiotic susceptibility showed most of these sensitive to varying degrees to aminoglycosides and ciprofloxacin. Conclusion: In conclusion, culture and sensitivity testing of renal stones is a valuable tool in the management of nephrolithiasis, particularly in patients with recurrent or complicated infections. By identifying the bacterial organisms within the stones and determining their antibiotic susceptibility, clinicians can provide targeted treatment, improve patient outcomes, and reduce the risk of recurrenc. In this paper, a complementary split-ring resonator (CSRR)-based patch antenna is proposed as a microwave sensor to measure the salt concentration of NaCl solution. The microwave sensor consists of an RF-4 substrate, where a small copper disc is attached on the top as the radiator, a larger copper disc integrated with two CSRRs is attached on the bottom side as the finite ground plane, and a coaxial feeding port is introduced at the ground plane center. During salt concentration sensing, only the top disc is immersed into NaCl solution. The results indicate that the proposed microwave sensor can measure salt concentrations ranging from 5‰ to 35‰ with a maximum sensitivity of 0.367 (kHz/(mg/L)). The proposed microwave sensor is low-cost, low-profile, electrically small, lightweight, and easy to fabricate, and it also can be applied to other solutions' concentration sensing. Background: The SKT is a short cognitive performance test designed to assess impairments in memory and cognitive abilities such as attention and speed of information processing. In 2019, new regression-based norms for the English version of the SKT were calculated. This study has two aims: to establish valid cut-offs for distinguishing between no cognitive impairment, mild cognitive impairment (MCI), and dementia (1) and to cross-validate the new norms for detecting MCI and dementia in a community sample of older adults with clinical diagnoses (2). Methods: The validation sample included 143 older adults (mean age = 87.7, SD = 3.55) from the Sydney Memory and Aging Study (MAS Study). Participants were classified as having normal cognition, MCI, or dementia solely based on a consensus diagnosis; in addition, three tests (SKT, Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), and Addenbrooke's Cognitive Examination III (ACE-III)) to measure cognitive impairment were applied. Sensitivity and specificity for all three tests, as well as bivariate correlations, were calculated. Results: The sensitivity of the SKT for the differentiation of cognitive impairment (MCI or dementia) from normal cognition was 80.6%. The convergence between the SKT and the consensus diagnoses was 70.3% for all three diagnostic groups. All correlations between the three tests and the consensus diagnosis were significant (p < 0.01). Conclusions: In sum, it can be stated that the SKT is a valid tool for detecting early stages of cognitive impairment, performing very well in discriminating between no cognitive impairment and cognitive impairment (MCI or dementia). Conducting polymers used in chemical sensors are attractive because of their ability to confer reversible properties controlled by the doping/de-doping process. Polyaniline (PANI) is one of the most prominent materials used due to its ease of synthesis, tailored properties, and higher stability. Here, PANI thin films deposited by the drop-casting method on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) substrates were used in electrochemical and optical sensors for pH measurement. The response of the devices was correlated with the deposition parameters; namely, the volume of deposition solution dropped on the substrate and the concentration of the solution, which was determined by the weight ratio of polymer to solvent. The characterisation of the samples aimed to determine the structure–property relationship of the films and showed that the chemical properties, oxidation states, and protonation level are similar for all samples, as concluded from the cyclic voltammetry and UV–VIS spectroscopic analysis. The sensing performance of the PANI film is correlated with its relative physical properties, thickness, and surface roughness. The highest electrochemical sensitivity obtained was 127.3 ± 6.2 mV/pH, twice the Nernst limit—the highest pH sensitivity reported to our knowledge—from the thicker and rougher sample. The highest optical sensitivity, 0.45 ± 0.05 1/pH, was obtained from a less rough sample, which is desirable as it reduces light scattering and sample oxidation. The results presented demonstrate the importance of understanding the structure–property relationship of materials for optimised sensors and their potential applications where high-sensitivity pH measurement is required. Firecrackers are a vital element of cultural festivities that happen worldwide. However, the hazardous by-products they emit have a significant impact on environmental pollution, leading to the greenhouse effect and climate change. Aluminium powder serves as the fuel in the traditional flash powder mixture, nitrate of potassium serves as an oxidizing agent, and sulphur acts as the igniter at exact concentrations. The presence of sulfur in the flash powder mixture is critical as it acts as an igniter, contributing to the formation of sulfur dioxide, which can cause environmental harm. We carried out an experiment employing Sargassum wightii brown seaweed powder as a replacement for sulphur at specific amounts to lessen the effects of sulphur in flash powder. We discovered that Sargassum wightii brown seaweed powder may replace up to 50% of the sulphur significance in the flash powder mixture without impairing the flash powder's traditional performance. Our experiments included impact and friction sensitivity, SEM, and FTIR analyses to evaluate the improved flash powder composition. The results revealed that the modified flash powder mixture SP5 and SP10 emits less emission by 12% and 21%, and produces similar noise performance of 108 and 107 dB(A) to the normal flash powder composition (SP), affirming that the SP10 flash powder is a viable alternative. Moreover, in our relentless pursuit to mitigate the detrimental effects on our environment, we have ingeniously introduced a novel product—the Chinese cracker made from vegetable waste paper. Taking the South China karst as an example, this study constructed compound use efficiency (COM) through water, light, and carbon use efficiency (WUE, LUE, and CUE), analysed the divergence characteristics of COM, and clarified the dominant factors of COM variation and their sensitivity. It showed that from 2000 to 2018, WUE, LUE, CUE, and COM showed significant non-linear characteristics, spatially, which were distributed in a "northeast–southwest" pattern. Different factors on COM exhibited significant spatial heterogeneity. The COM first stabilized and then exhibited a fluctuating decrease with rising elevation and slope. The COM increased sharply and then slightly decreased as the temperature and precipitation increased but decreased with enhanced solar radiation and human activity intensity (HAI). HAI had the greatest effect on COM change, and the COM-HAI sensitivity first decreased and then increased; 2006 was the most abrupt year, and this may be related to the time-lagged effect of ecological restoration on vegetation. To achieve high-precision calculation of the electromagnetic field of layered media and to ensure that the apparent resistivity calculation and sensitivity are not affected by numerical errors, this paper implements high-precision calculation of the layered electromagnetic field based on the weighted average (WA) extrapolation method. Firstly, the 1D electromagnetic field expression of an arbitrary attitude field source is obtained by using the magnetic vector potential; then, the WA extrapolation technique is introduced to achieve the high-precision and fast solution of the Hankel transform, and the effects of the number of Gaussian points and the number of integration intervals on the accuracy are investigated. The theoretical model test shows that, compared with the open-source Dipole1D, the algorithm proposed in this paper has wider adaptability, and can achieve high-precision calculation of electric and magnetic dipole sources with higher efficiency. Compared with the epsilon algorithm studied by previous researchers, the WA extrapolation method proposed in this article can improve the convergence rate by approximately 20% under the same conditions. It can obtain high-precision numerical solutions with less integration time. The relative accuracy can reach the order 10 − 10 , and its computational efficiency is significantly better than the existing epsilon algorithm. Finally, we used two cases of marine controlled source electromagnetic method to show the application. A Lamb wave is a guided wave that propagates within plate-like structures, with its vibration mode resulting from the coupling of a longitudinal wave and a shear vertical wave, which can be applied in sensors, filters, and frequency control devices. The working principle of Lamb wave sensors relies on the excitation and propagation of this guided wave within piezoelectric material. Lamb wave sensors exhibit significant advantages in various sensing applications due to their unique wave characteristics and design flexibility. Compared to traditional surface acoustic wave (SAW) and bulk acoustic wave (BAW) sensors, Lamb wave sensors can not only achieve higher frequencies and quality factors in smaller dimensions but also exhibit superior integration and multifunctionality. In this paper, we briefly introduce Lamb wave sensors, summarizing methods for enhancing their sensitivity through optimizing electrode configurations and adjusting piezoelectric thin plate structures. Nitrite, a collective term for a group of inorganic compounds containing nitrite ions (NO2−), is widely present in the natural environment and in the human body. It has a wide range of applications in the medical, food and environmental fields, such as food additives, water treatment agents and drugs. However, the excessive intake of nitrite poses indirect carcinogenic, teratogenic and mutagenic risks to humans. With the in-depth study of the functional properties of nitrite, there is an increasing demand for accurate and efficient methods for its detection. This paper presents a review of methods for the detection of nitrite, which will cover different principles and technologies, including traditional methods, optical methods, electrochemical sensors, and biosensors, and their prospects. By comparing and evaluating the different methods, it will provide references and valuable suggestions for choosing the most suitable nitrite detection methods and the scientific selection of alternatives for nitrite. Background/objectives: Sarcopenia, characterized by the progressive loss of muscle mass and strength, poses significant risks to physical health, leading to a reduced quality of life (QoL), increased disability, and higher mortality rates among older adults. Early detection and intervention are crucial to prevent the cascading effects of sarcopenia, including falls, fractures, and hospitalization. This study determined an optimal cut-off point of the SarQoL® score that can serve as an effective screening tool among community-dwelling Korean older adults. Methods: The study involved 451 South Korean older adults, assessing the correlation between SarQoL® scores and sarcopenia as defined by the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS) criteria. Participants completed the Korean version of the SarQoL questionnaire. Results: Findings revealed that individuals diagnosed with sarcopenia had significantly lower SarQoL® scores compared to non-sarcopenic participants, with a cut-off score of ≤58.5 providing good diagnostic accuracy (AUC = 0.768, sensitivity = 69.3%, specificity = 75.2%). Conclusions: These results underscore the questionnaire's reliability and validity in screening for sarcopenia-related QoL impairment and its potential utility as a clinical tool. The rapid and sensitive detection of Salmonella typhimurium in food matrices is crucial for ensuring food safety. This study presents the development of an ultrasensitive electrochemical biosensor using surface-modified bacterial cellulose (BC) integrated with polypyrrole (Ppy) and reduced graphene oxide (RGO), further functionalized with immobilized S. typhimurium-specific phage particles. The BC substrate, with its ultra-fibrous and porous structure, was modified through in situ oxidative polymerization of Ppy and RGO, resulting in a highly conductive and flexible biointerface. The immobilization of phages onto this composite was facilitated by electrostatic interactions between the polycationic Ppy and the negatively charged phage capsid heads, optimizing phage orientation and enhancing bacterial capture efficiency. Morphological and chemical characterization confirmed the successful fabrication and phage immobilization. The biosensor demonstrated a detection limit of 1 CFU/mL for S. typhimurium in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS), with a linear detection range spanning 100 to 107 CFU/mL. In real samples, the sensor achieved detection limits of 5 CFU/mL in milk and 3 CFU/mL in chicken, with a linear detection range spanning 100 to 106 CFU/mL, maintaining high accuracy and reproducibility. The biosensor also effectively discriminated between live and dead bacterial cells, demonstrating its potential in real-world food safety applications. The biosensor performed excellently over a wide pH range (4–10) and remained stable for up to six weeks. Overall, the developed BC/Ppy/RGO–phage biosensor offers a promising tool for the rapid, sensitive, and selective detection of S. typhimurium, with robust performance across different food matrices. Black silicon was discovered by accident and considered an undesirable by-product of the silicon industry. A highly modified surface, consisting of pyramids, needles, holes, pillars, etc., provides high light absorption from the UV to the NIR range and gives black silicon its color—matte black. Although black silicon has already attracted some interest as a promising material for sensitive sensors, the potential of this material has not yet been fully exploited. Over the past three decades, black silicon has been actively introduced as a substrate for surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS)—a molecule-specific vibrational spectroscopy technique—and successful proof-of-concept experiments have been conducted. This review focuses on the current progress in black silicon SERS biosensor fabrication, the recent advances in the design of the surface morphology and an analysis of the relation of surface micro-structuring and SERS efficiency and sensitivity. Much attention is paid to problems of non-invasiveness of the technique and biocompatibility of black silicon, its advantages over other SERS biosensors, cost-effectiveness and reproducibility, as well as the expansion of black silicon applications. In this paper, a voltage differencing buffered amplifier (VDBA)-based second-order sinusoidal oscillator (SO) configuration, which provides voltage output at low impedance, is proposed. The circuit employs single VDBA, three resistors and two grounded capacitors, which presume its easy monolithic integration with preferred circuit simplicity. The nonidealities of VDBA due to parasitic and tracking errors are taken into consideration to study the nonideal behavior of proposed SO. Mathematical modeling of phase noise is computed in the paper. Active and passive sensitivities are calculated for the proposed configuration and are found to be less than unity rendering circuit insensitive to component variations followed by phase noise study. The functionality of the proposed topology is validated through cadence virtuoso ADE spectre tool at 180-nm technology node. Experimental verification is executed through commercially available ICs AD844 by good results. The total harmonic distortion (THD) is found to be below 3.5%. The observed frequency of oscillation is found to be in close agreement with the theoretical values. Objective: Vulvar carcinoma exhibits a robust correlation alongside HPV infection; however, the impact of HPV rank on the prognostic outcomes of radiation therapy within vulvar malignancies stays ambiguous. In the present study, we performed a comprehensive examination as well as meta-analysis to assess the influence of infection with HPV upon the long-term outlook as well as sensitivity of individuals with vulvar cancer undergoing radiation therapy. Methods: A meticulous examination of the existing research was conducted in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. A thorough search was conducted in the PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, as well as Cochrane Library databases, covering the entire available literature till April 1, 2023. The studies that met the inclusion criteria contained data about HPV infection and oncological outcomes in patients with vulvar cancer who received radiation therapy. This study was registered in PROSPERO (CRD42023417957). Results: We identified 12 retrospective studies meeting our inclusion criteria, which included a total of 3967 patients. Patients with HPV-associated vulvar cancer achieved a better overall survival rate after radiotherapy (HR=0.71, 95%CI: 0.54-0.93, P=0.01), and showed a significant improvement in disease-free survival (HR=0.75, 95%CI: 0.58-0.97, P=0.09) and progression-free survival (HR=0.31, 95%CI: 0.22-0.45, P,<0.01). Meanwhile, the complete remission rate after radiotherapy was higher for HPV-associated vulvar cancer patients (MH= 4.02, 95% CI: 1.87-8.61, P=0.0003), and the local control rate was better (HR=1.90, 95% CI: 1.15-3.15, P=0.01), exhibiting a reduced incidence of relapse within the field of study (HR=0.21, 95% CI: 0.10-0.42, P<0.001). Conclusion: In comparison to HPV-independent vulvar squamous cell carcinoma, patients with HPV-associated vulvar cancer exhibit higher sensitivity to radiotherapy, with a significant difference in prognosis. Further research should investigate the mechanisms underlying this high sensitivity to radiotherapy caused by HPV, and should be evaluated using high-quality randomized controlled trials. Identifying the stability and sensitivity of land ecosystems to climate change is vital for exploring nature-based solutions. However, the underlying mechanisms governing ecosystem stability and sensitivity, especially in regions with overlapping ecological projects, remain unclear. based on Mann-Kendall, stability analysis method, and multiple regression method, this study quantified the stability and sensitivity of gross primary productivity (GPP) to climate variables [temperature, vapor pressure deficit (VPD), soil moisture, and radiation] in China from 1982 to 2019. Our findings revealed the following: (1) GPP demonstrated an increased trend with lower stability in Eastern regions, whereas a decreasing trend with higher stability was observed in Western and Southwest China. Notably, the stability of GPP was highest (74.58%) in areas with five overlapping ecological projects: Grain to Green, Natural Forest Resource Protection Project, Three-River Ecological Conservation and Restoration Project, Return Grazing to Grassland Project, and Three-North Shelter Forestation Project. (2) In regions with minimal or no overlapping ecological projects, temperature and radiation jointly dominated GPP variations. In contrast, water-related factors (VPD and soil moisture) significantly affected GPP in areas with multiple overlapping ecological projects. (3) In the southwestern and northeastern regions, GPP exhibited the highest sensitivity to climate change, whereas, in the eastern coastal areas and Tibet, GPP showed low sensitivity to climate change. In the Loess Plateau, where five ecological projects overlap extensively, carbon sinks primarily demonstrate a monotonic increasing trend, high stability, and low sensitivity to climate change. This study aimed to assess the stability of the land ecosystems and delineate their sensitivity to climate changes, thereby laying the groundwork for understanding ecosystem resilience. This study introduces a novel deep learning-based approach for classifying poultry audio signals, incorporating a custom Burn Layer to enhance model robustness. The methodology integrates digital audio signal processing, convolutional neural networks (CNNs), and the innovative Burn Layer, which injects controlled random noise during training to reinforce the model's resilience to input signal variations. The proposed architecture is streamlined, with convolutional blocks, densely connected layers, dropout, and an additional Burn Layer to fortify robustness. The model demonstrates efficiency by reducing trainable parameters to 191,235, compared to traditional architectures with over 1.7 million parameters. The proposed model utilizes a Burn Layer with burn intensity as a parameter and an Adamax optimizer to optimize and address the overfitting problem. Thorough evaluation using six standard classification metrics showcases the model's superior performance, achieving exceptional sensitivity (96.77%), specificity (100.00%), precision (100.00%), negative predictive value (NPV) (95.00%), accuracy (98.55%), F1 score (98.36%), and Matthew's correlation coefficient (MCC) (95.88%). This research contributes valuable insights into the fields of audio signal processing, animal health monitoring, and robust deep-learning classification systems. The proposed model presents a systematic approach for developing and evaluating a deep learning-based poultry audio classification system. It processes raw audio data and labels to generate digital representations, utilizes a Burn Layer for training variability, and constructs a CNN model with convolutional blocks, pooling, and dense layers. The model is optimized using the Adamax algorithm and trained with data augmentation and early-stopping techniques. Rigorous assessment on a test dataset using standard metrics demonstrates the model's robustness and efficiency, with the potential to significantly advance animal health monitoring and disease detection through audio signal analysis.
