INTRODUCTION: Plaque psoriasis is a chronic condition that may impact patients work productivity. Tildrakizumab, an interleukin-23 p19 inhibitor, is approved for treatment of moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis in adults. However, the effect of tildrakizumab treatment on work productivity in patients with psoriasis is not well characterized. METHODS: In this multicenter, open-label, uncontrolled phase 4 study (NCT03718299), patients with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis received tildrakizumab 100 mg at week 0, week 4, and every 12 weeks thereafter through week 52. Patients completed the Work Productivity and Activity Impairment Questionnaire: Psoriasis (WPAI:PSO) at baseline and every 12 weeks from week 16 through week 64. The following four domains of the WPAI:PSO were examined: absenteeism (percentage of time missed from work due to psoriasis), presenteeism (percentage reduction of productivity while at work due to psoriasis), total activity impairment (percentage impairment in activities other than work due to psoriasis), and total work productivity impairment (total percentage of work impairment from both absenteeism and presenteeism due to psoriasis). Missing data were not imputed. RESULTS: Of the 55 patients enrolled, 31 patients completed all domains of the WPAI:PSO at week 64. From baseline to week 64, respectively, mean ± standard deviation (SD) scores improved for presenteeism (20.5 ± 21.7 to 2.6 ± 5.8; P

- Abstract
Background: Eptinezumab's impact on self-reported work productivity in adults with migraine and 2‒4 prior preventive migraine treatment failures is not fully understood. Methodology: Electronic diaries captured monthly migraine days (MMDs) reported by patients enrolled in the randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled DELIVER trial (NCT04418765). The migraine-specific Work Productivity and Activity Impairment questionnaire, administered at baseline and each monthly visit, was a secondary outcome of DELIVER and used to model changes from baseline in self-reported monthly hours of absenteeism (decreased work attendance) and presenteeism (reduced work efficiency while at work with a migraine) in Canada, as the base case. Path analysis illustrated eptinezumab's impact on work productivity beyond MMDs. Results: As MMDs increased, monthly hours of absenteeism increased linearly while those of presenteeism increased quadratically. Best-fit models were improved after including an eptinezumab treatment effect, showing benefit over placebo after controlling for MMD frequency. Compared to placebo, patients treated with eptinezumab (pooled) had a modeled reduction from baseline of 7.2 h/month (absenteeism) (95% CI: −9.9, −4.5; P < 0.001) and 21.4 h/month (presenteeism) (95% CI: −26.3, −16.5; P < 0.001) over weeks 1‒24. Beyond MMD reductions, improvements in patient-identified most bothersome symptom (PI-MBS) and reductions in percent of severe migraine attacks contributed to eptinezumab's effect. Conclusions: Eptinezumab decreased absenteeism and presenteeism based on patient reports, with data highlighting the importance of considering the PI-MBS. The greater change from baseline than placebo in self-reported absenteeism and presenteeism was only partly explained by changes in MMDs, presenting a potential opportunity to decrease the cost of migraine in the workplace. - Abstract
Background: Psoriasis is a prevalent, chronic skin disease with a potential impact on work productivity, medical consumption costs, and quality of life. The influence of the extent of skin lesions on these outcomes is not well known. Objective: We determined associations of self-reported skin lesions with self-reported work productivity, medical consumption costs, and health-related quality of life in respondents with psoriasis. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we included respondents with self-reported psoriasis in the Netherlands in an online questionnaire. We assessed the self-reported percentage body surface area (BSA) of psoriasis lesions. We used validated instruments to assess work productivity (WPAI-PsO), medical consumption costs (iMCQ), and health-related quality of life (EQ-5D-5L and the DLQI). We used ordinal logistic regression to associate BSA categories >1% versus 0-1% with outcomes adjusted for multiple confounders. Results: We included 501 respondents with a mean age of 43 ± 12 years; 64% were men. Median BSA was 2% (interquartile range 1–5%). A higher BSA was associated with higher overall work impairment due to psoriasis (common odds ratio [cOR] 2.44, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.40–4.29; n = 205), higher medical consumption costs (cOR 2.06, 95% CI 1.45–2.94) and lower health-related quality of life. Associations were strongest with a BSA cutoff of 0% or 1% compared to 2% or higher categories. Discussion: In our study, having few to no lesions in psoriasis was associated with lower overall work impairment due to psoriasis, lower medical consumption costs, and higher health-related quality of life. Background and Aim: Chronic constipation negatively impacts work productivity and patients' quality of life. This retrospective study assessed the correlation between symptoms of chronic constipation and work/activity impairment with and without the use of laxative treatment. Methods: This cross‐sectional, observational, web‐based survey was conducted using the Work Productivity and Activity Impairment‐Chronic Constipation Questionnaire and included Japanese patients with chronic constipation receiving prescribed medication. Outcomes of interest included total work productivity and activity impairment and their correlation with constipation symptoms. Results: Among the 2351 analyzed patients (mean [SD] age, 51.7 [13.8] years), 80.7% were females, 63.3% had a disease duration of ≥10 years, and 1424 were working. The averages of total activity impairment, total work productivity impairment, presenteeism, and absenteeism were 39.2%, 33.9%, 31.2%, and 5.0%, respectively. The annual work productivity loss per patient was estimated to be 1.343 million Japanese Yen. Symptoms that had a statistically significant positive correlation with total work impairment (P < 0.05) were abdominal discomfort/nausea, abdominal pain, abdominal bloating, and unpredictable defecation timing. Total activity impairment was significantly (P < 0.05) affected by abdominal discomfort/nausea, abdominal bloating, abdominal pain, incomplete defecation, unpredictable defecation timing, loss of defecation desire, and straining. Work productivity and daily activity had improved in 71.2% and 72.6% of patients, respectively, after they received treatment. Conclusion: Symptoms of constipation, particularly abdominal symptoms and unpredictable defecation timing, can have a negative impact on work productivity and daily activity. Treatment focused on these symptoms may reduce the socio‐economic burden of chronic constipation in Japan. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract While preventing renal damage and symptomatic urinary tract infection are of paramount importance to persons with a spinal cord lesion (SCL), patient-reported outcomes (PROs) are receiving much more attention than ever before. We performed a cross-sectional internet survey of 282 adult members of SCL patient advocacy groups and investigated, for the first time, the impact of different types of urinary catheter, including a Japanese reusable silicone catheter and a reusable intermittent balloon catheter, on PROs of persons with SCL. Intermittent self-catheterization (ISC) did not surpass continuous indwelling catheterization in terms of a disease-specific urinary quality of life. Urinary incontinence, regular ISC, and performing ISC away from home confronted these individuals. Work productivity and regular activities correlated fairly well with the disease-specific urinary quality of life. Bowel management problems affected all PROs evaluated. The absence of differences in PROs among the types of catheter used for ISC implies that Japanese reusable catheters have the potential to benefit selected persons with SCL. Further research is warranted to develop measures for maximizing work productivity by overcoming urinary as well as bowel problems.

- Abstract
Higher lighting intensity promotes workers' productivity but few studies focus on the problems caused by lower lighting intensities at tunnel construction sites without natural light. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between light intensity and workers' sleep quality, alertness, vitality, and work productivity through a theoretical structural equation model based on the literature review. Data were collected through a questionnaire survey, and 5792 valid responses were adopted for the analysis. First, the results showed that greater lighting intensity promoted workers' productivity directly and indirectly through three mediators: sleep quality, alertness, and vitality. Then, the whole sample was classified into four groups: high intensity/high comfort, moderate intensity/moderate comfort, moderate intensity/low comfort, and low intensity/low comfort. The clustered results showed that the lighting conditions of tunnel construction sites were generally poor and that lighting comfort promoted workers' productivity to some extent. Besides, the influence of lighting intensity on productivity declined with improved lighting conditions while the impact of lighting intensity on workers' physiological and psychological status showed differing trends as lighting conditions varied. However, the relationships between workers' physiological and psychological status and productivity remained stable regardless of the lighting conditions. The findings could provide a reference for developing corresponding measures to promote workers' productivity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Nurses play a vital role in ensuring effective patient care delivery and organizational productivity. Hence, it becomes imperative to prioritize their psychological well-being and explore how its impairment may be associated with their productivity loss. Aims: The study aims to investigate the relationship between nurses' psychological well-being and their work productivity loss by examining how nurses self-reported their own psychological well-being and work productivity loss. Methods: A descriptive correlational design was conducted at an Egyptian university hospital. A convenience sample of 400 nurses completed two tools: (a) Outcome Questionnaire-45 was used to assess the psychological well-being of nurses and (b) the Work Productivity and Activity Impairment – General Health Questionnaire was used to measure nurses' work productivity. Results: Among the 400 surveyed nurses, 66.7% reported overall poor psychological well-being. Regarding work productivity loss, 22.8% of nurses missed an average of 974.81 work hours due to absenteeism, and 62.0% lost an average of 10,630 work hours due to presenteeism. Additionally, 75.5% experienced impaired daily living activities. Approximately 13.4% of total working hours were missed due to health problems or psychological distress. Regression analysis revealed that poor psychological well-being significantly predicts work productivity loss, accounting for 2.0% of absenteeism, 11.0% of presenteeism, 17.0% of daily activity impairment, and 9.0% of overall productivity loss, with the model being significant (p < 0.01). Conclusion: Nurses often experience poor psychological well-being and distress that hinder their daily activities and cause work productivity loss. Therefore, hospital management should prioritize improving nurses' physical and mental health and bolstering their self-efficacy and resilience to minimize the effects of symptom distress on productivity. Investing in nurses' well-being through managerial caring, organizational support, and fostering a supportive work environment are vital strategies for promoting quality patient care and enhancing their work productivity. Background: The main objective of this study was to examine the burden of schizophrenia, depression, Alzheimer's disease/dementia, and stroke on caregivers and non-caregivers in Japan. This study also aimed to provide a comparative landscape on the burden of caregiving for each disorder. Methods: The Japan National Health and Wellness Survey database, 2016 and 2018 was used in this study. Health-related quality of life (HRQoL), work productivity, and health care utilization were assessed using a self-administered, Internet-based questionnaire. The burden of caregiving experienced by each group of caregivers was compared with background-matched non-caregivers (controls) as well as with caregivers of patients with each disorder. Results: Caregivers of patients with schizophrenia, depression, Alzheimer's disease/dementia, or stroke had lower HRQoL, higher healthcare costs and work productivity impairment than non-caregivers. Furthermore, caregivers of patients with psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and depression had lower HRQoL and work productivity than caregivers of patients with Alzheimer's disease/dementia and stroke. In addition, according to the Caregiver Reaction Assessment (CRA), caregivers of patients with schizophrenia and depression were more inclined to perceive a loss in physical strength and financial burden to the same extent as their self-esteem. Conclusions: This study indicated a substantial caregiving burden among caregivers of patients with psychiatric and neurological diseases in Japan. The caregiver burden of psychiatric disorders (schizophrenia and depression) was greater than that of neurological disorders (Alzheimer's disease/dementia and stroke), suggesting a need to provide support to caregivers of patients with psychiatric disorders to be better able to care for their patients. Trial Registration: None. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Influenza and influenza-like illness (ILI) pose significant clinical and economic burdens globally each year. This systematic literature review examined quantitative studies evaluating the impact of patients' influenza/ILI on their caregivers' well-being, focusing on health-related quality of life (HRQoL), work productivity, and activity impairment. A comprehensive search across six databases, including the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Embase, MEDLINE via PubMed, Ovid, PsycNet, and Web of Science, yielded 18,689 records, of which 13,156 abstracts were screened, and 662 full-text articles were reviewed from January 2007 to April 2024. Thirty-six studies [HRQoL: 2; productivity: 33; both: 1] covering 22 countries were included. Caregivers of 47,758 influenza or ILI patients across 123 study cohorts were assessed in the review. The mean workday loss among caregivers ranged from 0.5 to 10.7 days per episode, influenced by patients' influenza status (positive or negative), disease severity (mild or moderate-to-severe), age, viral type (influenza A or B), and vaccination/treatment usage. The HRQoL of caregivers, including their physical and emotional well-being, was affected by a patient's influenza or ILI, where the severity and duration of a patient's illness were associated with worse HRQoL. This review shows that the consequences of influenza or ILI significantly affect not only patients but also their caregivers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: A large proportion of persons with schizophrenia are either abandoned by their family members in mental hospitals or do not have any family members to look after them. Therefore, almost 2/3rd of hospital beds are occupied by chronic schizophrenic patients. Very few beds are available for the treatment of acute mental patients who need urgent hospitalization. Aim: To assess the impact of a comprehensive socio-vocation rehabilitation package on the work productivity and social behavior of persons with chronic schizophrenia. Materials and Methods: Sixty chronic schizophrenic inpatients were included in the present study. Sociodemographic and clinical details were collected on a specially designed Performa for the study. Each patient was rated on a job-up-to-date form at baseline, 3 months, and 6 months after intervention. Data related to the vocational outcome were collected on the supervisor's evaluation form at the end of the first month and then after every month till the end of 6 months after intervention. The patient's social behavior was measured on the Social Behavior Schedule at baseline, 3 months, and 6 months after intervention. Results: Significant improvement was found in the area of vocational outcomes when a comparison was made from the 1st month to the 6th month. Marked improvement was also noticed in their social behaviors after social and vocational rehabilitation. Conclusion: The overall results suggest that chronic schizophrenic inpatients can be properly rehabilitated if opportunity is provided to them. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: Glaucoma, the leading cause of irreversible blindness globally, presents a growing public health concern with its prevalence expected to reach 111.8 million by 2040. This condition imposes both direct and indirect economic costs. In addition to medical expenses, indirect costs encompass lost productivity and adverse effects on mental health and independence. Early glaucoma stages primarily manifest as peripheral vision loss, but as it progresses, it significantly impairs one's quality of life. There is a growing body of research exploring the relationship between glaucoma and workplace functioning, including absenteeism and productivity loss. This systematic review aims to comprehensively investigate how glaucoma affects work productivity and the associated economic burden. Methods: This study adheres to the PRISMA guidelines. A literature search was conducted across multiple databases, including MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, and PsycINFO. Two independent reviewers screened titles, abstracts, and full-text articles based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Covidence software was employed for study selection and quality assessment. The Modified Downs and Black Checklist was used to evaluate study quality and thematic analysis was used to analyze data. Results: 17 studies met the inclusion criteria. The results revealed a significant impact of glaucoma on workplace functioning including, individuals with glaucoma experienced higher sickness absenteeism rates than those without glaucoma, glaucoma was associated with reduced labor force participation, leading to substantial productivity losses. Individuals with visual impairments and blindness earned less than those with normal vision, contributing to a significant financial burden. Glaucoma had a substantial impact on daily physical, emotional, and occupational functioning. Individuals with glaucoma faced limitations in performing daily activities and experienced difficulties in social interactions and household chores. Visual impairment due to glaucoma resulted in work disability, with some individuals reporting glaucoma-related visual disability as the main cause of their unemployment. A significant association between unemployment and glaucoma was observed in various studies, particularly in developing countries. Conclusion: Glaucoma significantly impairs work productivity and performance, resulting in substantial economic burdens on individuals, businesses, and society. Addressing these challenges requires multifaceted approaches, including workplace accommodations and holistic care.

Rationale & Objective: Chronic kidney disease-associated pruritus (CKD-aP) is a common, underrecognized condition in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), especially those receiving hemodialysis (HD). The present study analyzed the clinical treatment journey and overall burden of pruritus among patients with CKD-aP. Study Design: Cross-sectional, patient-reported online survey. Setting & Participants: Data from adult patients undergoing HD (December 2021–May 2022) in the United States. Exposure: Patients participated in an online survey and responded to questions on validated patient-reported outcome instruments related to CKD-aP. Outcomes: Self-reported measures analyzed at the end of this survey include itch characteristics; symptom management; health care provider (HCP) engagement; and effect on HD, quality of life (QoL), sleep, and work productivity. Analytical Approach: Bivariate analysis assessed the association of itch severity with CKD-specific QoL. Results: Overall, 354 patients with CKD-aP were included in analyses, of which 49% and 30% had moderate and severe itch, respectively (22% were mild). Around 68% reported symptoms to HCPs, most commonly a nephrologist or primary care provider, and 55% received a treatment recommendation. The most common treatments were topical lotions/moisturizers (75%) and corticosteroids (48%); use of oral prescriptions was low (20%), with limited satisfaction with treatments. Overall, 23% of patients reported shortening and 17% reported missing HD sessions because of itch. In bivariate analysis, patients with more severe CKD-aP reported significantly worse disease and function scores (kidney disease score, cognitive function, quality of social interaction, sleep [all, P 60% of hemodialysis patients reported having itch-related symptoms, CKD-aP may be underdiagnosed. Most patients reported that they were not given treatment options and/or were not satisfied with their current treatments. The study also showed that itch intensity affected patient's full participation in prescribed dialysis sessions, quality of life, quality of sleep, and work productivity.

The resource that has the biggest role in the company's development is the workforce. Human resources are a factor that is difficult to predict because they are influenced by several things, both internal and external. Companies have goals, especially increasing productivity which is supported by the role of employees in optimizing profits. Companies can choose productive employees so work productivity will be maximized. However, if the workload is too large, employees also experience pressure, especially in limited circumstances and time. Even though there is a workload, factors that make employees experience satisfaction will also appear in their work to influence employee work productivity. This research aims to examine the effect of workload and job satisfaction on work productivity at PT Kamaltex which is located in Ngepon Village, Bergas District, Semarang Regency, Central Java. This research uses a quantitative method using secondary data in the form of data on the number of employees, salary data, and work productivity data at PT Kamaltex, and primary data in the form of data on the influence of workload and job satisfaction on work productivity. The results of this research show that workload and job satisfaction have a significant effect on work productivity.

Wood fuel from the agroforestry sector is one of the main strategies cited by the EU for reducing energetic dependance on foreign markets. Its sustainability, both economic and environmental, can be improved through the optimization of harvesting and chipping operations. This study was focused on the dynamic and energetic balance of the chipping phase carried out by a chipper operated by the power-take-off (PTO) of a medium-power tractor. Both machines were equipped with sensors for real-time monitoring of fuel consumption, PTO torque and speed, trunk diameter and working time during the comminution of 61 poplar trees grown in a medium rotation coppice system. The data analysis was carried out on the entire dataset (about 29,000 records) without considering their belonging to different trees. By means of proper data ordinations, it has been possible to define all the intervals in which the chipping stopped (e.g., between two trees) and to exclude them from the intervals of actual chipping. This has allowed forcomputation of operative and actual working time, as well as of the basic power required to operate the chipper and the power for actual chipping. Subsequently, the parameter values observed during actual chipping were related to the cutting diameters measured at the same instant. Subsequently, the dataset was divided according to seven diameter classes, and, for each class, the descriptive statistical indices of working time, work productivity, CO2 emissions, energy requirement and fuel consumption were calculated. Eventually, the correlation between the variations in trunk diameter and other parameters was verified both on the whole dataset and based on the class average values. The analysis made it possible to identify the conditions of greatest efficiency for the chipper. More generally, the method could help to increase the accuracy of measurements aimed at characterizing the performance of chippers from the point of view of dynamic energy requirements as well as in relation to different wood species.

Patients (aged ≥ 18 years) with MDD initiating treatment with vortioxetine in routine clinical practice settings were followed for 24 weeks. In this subgroup analysis, functioning was assessed using the Sheehan Disability Scale (SDS) in patients in full- or part-time work or education at baseline who remained on treatment at all follow-up visits (n=424). Depressive, cognitive, and anxiety symptoms were also assessed. For all endpoints, mean change from baseline at weeks 8 and 24 was analyzed using mixed models for repeated measures. Results: Clinically relevant and sustained improvements in patient functioning and measures of work productivity were observed over the 24 weeks of vortioxetine treatment. The adjusted mean (standard error) reduction in SDS total score from baseline was 5.4 (0.3) points at week 8 and 8.7 (0.3) points at week 24 (both P< 0.001 vs baseline). Significant improvements were observed across all SDS domains and in levels of absenteeism and presenteeism (P< 0.001 vs baseline for all endpoints at both time points). Significant improvements in depressive, cognitive, and anxiety symptoms were also observed over the study period (all P< 0.001 vs baseline). The proportion of patients in remission (ie, 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale score ≤ 7) after 24 weeks of vortioxetine treatment was 65.4%. Vortioxetine was well tolerated; nausea was the most common adverse event, reported by 18.6% of patients. Conclusion: These findings support the effectiveness and tolerability of vortioxetine in working patients with MDD receiving treatment in routine clinical practice settings in China. Keywords: China, cognitive symptoms, major depressive disorder, patient functioning, vortioxetine, work productivity

Abstract Background Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common, functional gastrointestinal disorder. Because IBS often develops and worsens with stress, it requires treatment from both physical and mental perspectives. Recent years have seen increasing reports of its impact on the daily performance and productivity of workers with IBS, leading to sick leaves and lower quality of life. Therefore, this narrative review aimed to summarize the work and psychosocial characteristics of individuals with IBS. Main body Workers with IBS report greater occupational stressors and work productivity impairments, including presenteeism or absenteeism, in addition to suffering from psychological distress, low quality of life, and medical and economic problems, similar to those with IBS in the general population. Anxiety about abdominal symptoms, as well as the severity of IBS, is related to the degree of interference with one’s work. Regarding the association between characteristics of work and IBS, shift work and job demands/discretion have been associated with IBS. Studies on specific occupations have revealed associations between IBS and various occupational stressors in healthcare workers, firefighters, and military personnel. Telecommuting, which has become increasingly popular during the coronavirus disease pandemic, has not found to improve IBS. Moreover, the effectiveness of medication, diet, and a comprehensive self-management program, including cognitive behavioral therapy, in improving the productivity of workers with IBS have been examined. Conclusion As mentioned above, the IBS of workers is related not only to their problematic physical and mental health but also to work-related problems; workers with IBS exhibit severe occupational stress factors and work productivity impairment. Further research is required to develop efficient and appropriate interventions for workers.

The topic of interest pertains to the domain of Training and Development (T&D), specifically focusing on the concept of on-the-job training. Training, training design, and delivery style are widely recognized as crucial elements in the field of organizational studies. The performance of employees has a significant influence on the financial outcomes of a firm. Most organizations utilize Training and Development (T&D) strategies to improve work performance, efficiency, effectiveness, and managerial oversight. The performance of employees has a crucial role in determining the operational efficiency and effectiveness of an organization. As a result, T&D is considered a vital component in this regard. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of Training & Development on both organizational performance (OP) and employee performance. The process of data collection involved the utilization of both primary data collection methods, such as questionnaires and interviews, as well as secondary data collection methods. A total of 280 male and female employees were chosen through a random sample technique across the Delhi NCR region. Consequently, the objective of T&D is to enhance performance levels for both the individual and the organization. To uphold a superior level of staff performance and overall effectiveness, a firm must establish and sustain an ongoing T&D program. T&D can manifest in numerous diverse forms. For an organization to derive advantages from T&D, it is imperative to carefully select the form that aligns most closely with its specific objectives and aspirations. The findings indicate a positive impact of T&D on both employee performance (EP) and organizational performance. T&D play a substantial role in influencing personnel.

Abstract Introduction Plaque psoriasis is a chronic condition that may impact patients’ work productivity. Tildrakizumab, an interleukin-23 p19 inhibitor, is approved for treatment of moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis in adults. However, the effect of tildrakizumab treatment on work productivity in patients with psoriasis is not well characterized. Methods In this multicenter, open-label, uncontrolled phase 4 study (NCT03718299), patients with moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis received tildrakizumab 100 mg at week 0, week 4, and every 12 weeks thereafter through week 52. Results Of the 55 patients enrolled, 31 patients completed all domains of the WPAI:PSO at week 64. From baseline to week 64, respectively, mean ± standard deviation (SD) scores improved for presenteeism (20.5 ± 21.7 to 2.6 ± 5.8; P

Abstract Background Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) is prevalent among women of reproductive age, but most do not seek medical advice. We hypothesized that building PMS awareness could promote medical help-seeking for PMS and thus reduce menstrual symptoms and improve work productivity. Methods In January 2020, women aged between 25 and 44 years, having paid work, and not currently consulting with an obstetrics and gynecology doctor (n = 3090) responded to the Menstrual Distress Questionnaire (MDQ), the Premenstrual Symptoms screening tool, and the World Health Organisation Health and Work Performance Questionnaire. In addition, they received checklist-based online education for PMS. Of 3090 participants, 2487 (80.5%) participated in a follow-up survey in September 2020. We conducted multiple logistic regression analyses and text analyses to explore factors that encouraged and discouraged medical help-seeking. We also evaluated changes in menstrual symptoms and work productivity, using generalized estimating equations with interactions between the severity of PMS, help-seeking, and time. Results During the follow-up period, 4.9% of the participants (121/2487) sought medical help. Those having high annual income (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 2.07, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.21–3.53) and moderate-to-severe PMS (aOR = 2.27, 95% CI: 1.49–3.46) were more likely to have sought medical help. Those who did not seek medical help despite their moderate-to-severe PMS reported normalization of their symptoms (36%), time constraints (33%), and other reasons for not seeking medical help. Participants with moderate-to-severe PMS who had sought medical help showed a significant improvement of − 8.44 points (95% CI: − 14.73 to − 2.15 points) in intermenstrual MDQ scores during the follow-up period. However, there were no significant improvements in premenstrual and menstrual MDQ scores or absolute presenteeism. Conclusion Medical help-seeking alleviated intermenstrual symptoms in women with moderate-to-severe PMS, but only a small proportion of them sought medical help after PMS education. Further research should be conducted to benefit the majority of women who are reluctant to seek medical help, including the provision of self-care information. Abstract Introduction To evaluate the effect of guselkumab on work productivity and nonwork daily activity impairment and general health status through 2 years in patients who were biologic-naïve with active psoriatic arthritis (PsA) in the phase 3 DISCOVER-2 clinical trial. Methods Adult patients with PsA were randomized to subcutaneous injections of guselkumab 100 mg every 4 weeks (Q4W); at weeks 0, 4, then every 8 weeks (Q8W); or placebo (through week 24 with crossover to guselkumab Q4W). Work productivity and nonwork daily activity impairment were assessed using the Work Productivity and Activity Impairment Questionnaire for PsA (WPAI-PsA) and patient-reported general health status using the EuroQol 5-Dimension 5-Level (EQ-5D-5L) Index and EQ-Visual Analog Scale (EQ-VAS). Least-squares (LS) mean changes from baseline in WPAI-PsA domains and EQ-5D-5L/EQ-VAS were assessed through week 100. Changes in employment status were utilized to estimate potential indirect savings from improved work productivity. Results Of 739 randomized patients, 738 had available baseline data for the analyses (Q4W 245; Q8W 248; placebo 245). At week 24, greater improvements in work productivity, nonwork daily activity, and EQ-5D-5L/EQ-VAS were observed in the Q4W and Q8W groups versus the placebo group. At week 100, LS mean reductions in work productivity impairment (− 23.8% to − 28.0%) and nonwork daily activity impairment (– 26.6% to − 29.2%) and improvements in EQ-5D-5L/EQ-VAS (0.14 to 0.15/21.2 to 25.0) were maintained in patients receiving guselkumab. Among patients employed at baseline, 12.1–16.4% were not employed at week 100, and 20.0–25.3% shifted from not employed at baseline to employed at week 100. Potential yearly indirect cost savings (USD) from improved work productivity at week 100 ranged from $16,529 to $19,409. Conclusion Patients with active PsA treated with guselkumab demonstrated reduced impairment in work productivity and nonwork daily activity, together with improvement in general health status and substantial potential cost savings, over a 2-year period. Abstract Background Capacity to work is impacted by psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Our objective was to describe the course of work productivity and leisure activity in patients with PsA treated with biologic (b) and targeted synthetic (ts) disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs). Methods A systematic literature review identified all trials and observational studies published January 1, 2010–October 22, 2021, reporting work productivity using the Work Productivity and Activity Impairment Questionnaire (WPAI) in patients with PsA treated with b/tsDMARDs. Outcomes for WPAI domains (absenteeism, presenteeism, total work productivity, and activity impairment) were collected at baseline and time point closest to 24 weeks of treatment. A random effects meta-analysis of single means was conducted to calculate an overall absolute mean change from baseline for each WPAI domain. Results Twelve studies (ten randomized controlled and two observational) assessing patients treated with adalimumab, bimekizumab, guselkumab, ixekizumab, risankizumab, secukinumab, or upadacitinib were analysed. Among 3741 employed patients, overall mean baseline scores were 11.4%, 38.7%, 42.7%, and 48.9% for absenteeism, presenteeism, total work productivity impairment, and activity impairment, respectively. Estimated absolute mean improvements (95% confidence interval) to week 24 were 2.4 percentage points (%p) (0.6, 4.1), 17.8%p (16.2,19.3), 17.6%p (15.9,19.4), and 19.3%p (17.6, 21.0) respectively, leading to a mean relative improvement of 41% for total work productivity. The change in work outcomes in the b/tsDMARDs appeared similar. Conclusions This systematic literature review and meta-analysis confirmed that patients with active PsA have a substantially reduced capacity to work and participate in leisure activities. Substantial improvements across various WPAI domains were noted after 24 weeks of b/tsDMARD treatment, especially in presenteeism, total work productivity, and activity impairment. These findings may be useful for reimbursement purposes and in the context of shared decision-making. Key summary points This systematic literature review (SLR) of randomized clinical trials and observational studies of biologic (b) and targeted synthetic (ts) disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs b/tsDMARDs in patients with PsA found that at treatment introduction, patients presented with a 42.7% mean productivity loss per week as assessed by the Work Productivity and Activity Impairment (WPAI) Questionnaire. Through a meta-analysis comparing before/after values without adjustment for placebo response, we found that after 24 weeks of treatment with b/tsDMARDs, there was a mean absolute improvement of 17.6 percentage points and a mean relative improvement of 41% in total work productivity, with similar magnitudes of improvement in time spent at work and regular activities outside of work. These results provide clinical-, regulatory- and reimbursement decision-makers with data on the potential societal and socio-economic benefits of b/tsDMARDs in PsA.

PurposeThe purpose of this study is to investigate how different cancer-related symptoms influence work outcomes among cancer survivors.MethodsA literature search was performed in PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Scopus to identify studies published between 1st January 1999 and 30th October 2020 that investigated the impact of specific cancer-related symptoms on work outcomes among cancer survivors who have completed primary antineoplastic treatment. Study findings were extracted and grouped by symptoms and work outcomes, allowing comparison of associations between these outcomes.ResultsSeventy-three articles representing 68 studies were eligible for inclusion. From these studies, 27 cancer-related symptoms, 9 work outcomes, and 68 unique associations between specific symptoms and work outcomes were identified. Work status (return to work and employment rates) was most commonly studied, and symptom burden was mainly measured from the patient's perspective. Higher symptom burden was generally associated with trends of poorer work outcomes. Significant associations were reported in most studies evaluating body image issues and work status, oral dysfunction and work status, fatigue and work ability, and depression and work ability.ConclusionSeveral cancer-related symptoms were consistently associated with inferior work outcomes among cancer survivors. Body image issues and oral dysfunction were shown to be associated with poorer employment rates, while fatigue and depression were linked to lower levels of work performance.Implications for cancer survivorsFailure to return to work and decreased productivity post-cancer treatment can have negative consequences for cancer survivors and society at large. Findings from this review will guide the development of work rehabilitation programs for cancer survivors.Protocol registrationPROSPERO identifier CRD42020187754.

Introduction: To evaluate the effect of guselkumab on work productivity and nonwork daily activity impairment and general health status through 2 years in patients who were biologic-naïve with active psoriatic arthritis (PsA) in the phase 3 DISCOVER-2 clinical trial. Methods: Adult patients with PsA were randomized to subcutaneous injections of guselkumab 100 mg every 4 weeks (Q4W); at weeks 0, 4, then every 8 weeks (Q8W); or placebo (through week 24 with crossover to guselkumab Q4W). Results: Of 739 randomized patients, 738 had available baseline data for the analyses (Q4W 245; Q8W 248; placebo 245). Conclusion: Patients with active PsA treated with guselkumab demonstrated reduced impairment in work productivity and nonwork daily activity, together with improvement in general health status and substantial potential cost savings, over a 2-year period. The height of the cloves at which they begin to flower, which is about 20 meters, is a factor that affects the clove harvesting procedure. This means that collecting cloves at height necessitates using tools that ensure worker safety. The agricultural industry is susceptible to ergonomic work risks resulting from several elements, such as worker characteristics, job demands and procedures, work organization, and environmental conditions. It is necessary to prioritize people as the critical consideration in defining work or humancentered design to manage ergonomic risks. This research analyzes the risk facts for clove flower pickers with a comprehensive method covering task, organization, and environment. This study was conducted during the clove flower harvest season from July to September 2023 at the plantation in Munduk Village-Bali, with 107 participants. Data on ergonomic hazards from internal and external factors before and after work were collected from MSDs and predicted using the Nordic Body Map questionnaire; fatigue was measured using the Core questionnaire Quality of Life (EORTC QLQ-C30), rating pulses were measured using a pulse meter. The data obtained were analyzed using SEM (Structural Equation Model). Significant differences were p < 0.05. The results of the research show that internal factors, particularly age, exert a negative influence on productivity. External factors, including body posture, time conditions, social conditions, information conditions, and human-tool interactions, significantly influenced productivity. This highlighted the importance of optimizing the "human-machine-environment" system to enhance safety, efficiency, and overall well-being. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article contains the data obtained during the 156-week follow-up of patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) in the ASTERA phase III study. Objective: to evaluate the effect impact of netakimab (NTK) on quality of life (QoL), back pain and work capacity in patients with active AS.Material and methods. The study enrolled 228 patients with active AS who were randomized 1:1 to receive NTK 120 mg or placebo. At week 52, patients in Group 1 (NTK) who achieved ASAS20 continued therapy (NTK at a dose of 120 mg once every 2 weeks) until week 156. Patients in Group 2 (placebo/NTK) received the study drug at a dose of 120 mg subcutaneously every 2 weeks from week 20 until week 68, after which the efficacy of therapy was determined (by achieving an ASAS20 response). Patients who achieved ASAS20 received treatment (NTK at a dose of 120 mg once every 2 weeks) until week 172.Results and discussion. Under NTK therapy, a significant improvement in QoL was observed in the assessment of the physical and psychological components of the SF-36 questionnaire, which was maintained during the three years of therapy: increase in indicator by 12.68±9.92; 13.27±10.14; 12.92±10.03; 14.10±10.35; 14.76±9.77 and 6.10±11.59; 5.50±11.82; 6.32±11.01; 5.87±11.45; 5.25±11.98 points at week 52, 76, 104, 128 and 156, respectively. During the extended therapy period, a reduction in the proportion of working hours missed for health reasons, an improvement in work capacity and work efficiency and an increase in daily activity were observed. Back pain (BASDAI question 2) and nocturnal back pain decreased steadily during the entire follow-up period compared to the screening values.Conclusion. NTK is an effective therapy for active AS that improves QoL scores, significantly reduces pain intensity and improves work productivity.

Abstract Background Working in a standing posture is considered to improve musculoskeletal comfort and can help enhance office workers’ performance in the long term. However, there is a lack of a quantitative, real-time measure that reflects on whether office workers can immediately become more concentrated and work more efficiently when they switch to a standing posture. Methods To tackle this problem, this study proposed that the number of effective computer interactions could be used as a real-time indicator to measure the productivity of office workers whose work is primarily computer-based. Using this metric, we conducted an exploratory study to investigate the correlation between posture and productivity changes at a 10-minute resolution for eight participants. Results The study found that when allowed to use sit-stand desks to adjust postures, participants chose to switch to standing posture for about 47 min on average once a day; standing work was most frequent between 2:30 − 4:00 pm, followed by 10:30 − 11:30 am, during which time the number of computer interactions also became higher, showing a significant positive correlation. In addition, participants were approximately 6.5% more productive than when they could only work in a sitting posture. Conclusion This study revealed that posture changes could have an immediate improvement in productivity.

Abstract Background Eptinezumab demonstrated efficacy in adults with migraine and prior preventive treatment failures in the placebo-controlled phase of the DELIVER clinical trial; its long-term effectiveness in this population has not yet been reported. The objective of this study was to evaluate the long-term effectiveness of eptinezumab in a migraine patient population during the 48-week extension phase of DELIVER. Methods DELIVER was conducted June 1, 2020 to September 15, 2022. 865 adults with migraine, with documented evidence of 2–4 prior preventive migraine treatment failures and with completion of the 24-week placebo-controlled period of DELIVER received eptinezumab (100 or 300 mg) during the dose-blinded extension, either continuing their randomized dose or, if originally receiving placebo, were randomized 1:1 to an eptinezumab dose (100 or 300 mg). A mixed model for repeated measures was used to evaluate changes from baseline in the number of monthly migraine days (MMDs). Results Of 865 patients entering the extension (eptinezumab 100 mg, n = 433; 300 mg, n = 432), 782 (90.4%) completed and 11 (1.3%) discontinued due to an adverse event. Eptinezumab was associated with early and sustained reductions in migraine frequency. Mean MMDs at baseline were approximately 14 days across groups. Mean (standard error) change from baseline in MMDs over the final dosing interval (weeks 61–72) was −6.4 (0.50) with placebo/eptinezumab 100 mg, –7.3 (0.49) with placebo/eptinezumab 300 mg, –7.1 (0.39) with eptinezumab 100 mg, and −7.0 (0.39) with eptinezumab 300 mg. During weeks 61–72, 63–70% of patients demonstrated ≥ 50% reduction in MMDs, and 36–45% demonstrated ≥ 75% reduction. Headache severity and acute medication use reductions, and patient-reported improvements in most bothersome symptom, disease status, quality of life, and work productivity, were observed. Adverse events were generally mild, transient, and similar in frequency/type to previous eptinezumab trials. Conclusions The long-term effectiveness and safety/tolerability of eptinezumab in patients with migraine and 2–4 prior preventive treatment failures was demonstrated by high completion rates and migraine-preventive benefits sustained for up to 18 months, implying that eptinezumab is a viable long-term treatment option for patients still seeking successful migraine treatments. Trial registration ClinicalTrials.gov (Identifier: NCT04418765; URL: https://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04418765 ); EudraCT (Identifier: 2019-004497-25; URL: https://www.clinicaltrialsregister.eu/ctr-search/search?query=2019-004497-25 ). Grief ,Health-related quality of life ,Work productivity ,Spinal muscular atrophy ,Mental health ,Medicine (General) ,R5-920 - Abstract
Abstract Background U.S. cost-effectiveness recommendations suggest that analyses should include all costs and effects relevant to the decision problem [1]. However, in many diseases, including spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), few studies have evaluated bereaved family outcomes after a child has died, neglecting potential impacts on their health-related quality of life (HRQoL), work productivity, and mental health. Additionally, grief-related outcomes are rarely included in economic evaluations. This manuscript outlines the protocol of a study that will estimate the HRQoL, work functioning, and mental health of bereaved parents of children with SMA type 1 to determine how outcomes vary based on parent’s sex and the time since a child’s death. Methods This study will involve two phases. In Phase 1, we will conduct a literature review to identify prior research that has measured how parental grief impacts HRQoL, work productivity, and mental health. We will also interview four bereaved parents of children with SMA type 1, stratified by parent sex and time since their child’s death, and analyze findings using a thematic analysis. In Phase 2, we will develop a survey draft based on Phase 1 findings. Parents bereaved from SMA type 1 will review our survey draft and we will revise the survey based on their feedback. We will send a cross-sectional survey to approximately 880 parents bereaved from SMA type 1. We will analyze findings from the survey to investigate whether the severity of grief symptoms is correlated with HRQoL, productivity, depression and anxiety symptom severity. We will also evaluate whether the mean scores of grief and each of the outcomes vary significantly when stratified by parent sex and the time since the child’s death. Discussion Our results will provide preliminary information on how parental grief can impact HRQoL, productivity, and mental health outcomes over time. Increasing the availability of family outcomes data will potentially assist organizations performing health economic evaluations, such as the Institute of Clinical and Economic Review (ICER) in the U.S. This research will also help to inform the development of future economic guidelines on this topic.

This research endeavors to examine the intricate relationship between human resource management and communication management in Iraqi construction projects, exploring their impact on project productivity. Beyond its primary objectives, the study aims to identify key challenges and limitations in implementing effective communication and human resource management practices in the Iraqi construction sector. Understanding these challenges provides valuable insights for practitioners and policymakers, informing strategies to overcome obstacles and enhance project productivity. The research methodology involves an initial survey using a main questionnaire, focusing on three key areas: internet communication in human resource management, the influence of internet quality on construction project management, and factors affecting work productivity. The sample size, determined using Morgan's Table, requires a minimum of 248 participants. The questionnaire is distributed to engineers, managers, and technicians, with the number of respondents meeting the required sample size. Data analysis utilizes the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), conducting Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) for each variable to identify underlying factors. A first-order confirmatory factor analysis is performed using the Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS) program, creating a structural model incorporating three variables and their associated factors. Out of the initial 64 factors, 21 are included in the final model, refined based on modification indices (M.I) output to improve fit. Results indicate a significant positive effect (0.92) of internet communication quality on labor productivity, while the impact of labor resource management is relatively negligible (−0.07). The size effect of variables on human resource management is 0.05, suggesting a small but non-zero effect. Overall, the findings underscore the importance of internet communication quality in enhancing labor productivity in construction projects and emphasize the need for effective human resource management practices in the industry. This study contributes valuable insights for project managers and practitioners in construction sector.
