Global electricity demand is increasing with the rising population and rapid urbanization. Building Integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) system is a new method of renewable energy generation where solar photovoltaic (PV) modules are integrated into the building surfaces such as façade, shades, windows, roofs, and tiles. BIPV systems reduce the urban energy demand. Utilization of vertical surfaces makes the BIPV system a preferable choice where land scarcity affects the implementation of large PV systems. The economic viability depends on the maximum power generated by the BIPV array. In urban environments, the BIPV arrays experience severe partial shading conditions (PSCs). The PSCs cause mismatch losses, reducing the global maximum power of the BIPV array and efficiency. Fixed array configurations such as series-parallel (SP), total-cross-tied (TCT), triple-tied (TT), and quarter-tied (QT) are designed to solve this issue. The cross ties across the rows of the BIPV array improve the performance at the expense of more wiring. Researchers proposed various optimal array configurations with different shading patterns. This research attempts to generalize the design of the BIPV array configurations by considering the trade-off between wiring requirements and shading losses. The performance of SP, TT, QT, and TCT configurations under four different shading conditions is simulated with the proposed BIPV array design algorithm. A 9 × 8 BIPV array of 3.6 kW is considered. QT configuration reduces the wiring requirement by 10.45% compared to TCT and improves up to 8.43% maximum power than SP. The fill factor is improved to 48.49%, and the mismatch loss is limited to 34.10%. Therefore, QT and TCT are considered favorable configurations for BIPV array design. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Renewable energy sources are not necessarily declining carbon sources. A hybrid generation network may be used in the power market to maximize the usage of renewable energy sources. The aim is to model hybrid power station and to determine the most effective system design through cost estimation. The power consumption of an agricultural device illustrates fertilizer house electricity needs and agricultural land irrigated pumps providing an average of 165.44 kWh / h of electricity per hour, an overall energy use of 7.12 kW and a total load of operation of 19.57 kW. The standard radiation intensity is 5.35 kWh per m2 per day, the luminosity amount is an around 0.534, and the maximum wind velocity is 4.60 m/s. Electricity generation is $323,659.25 and the gross electricity expense (Co2) is $1325 and reflects an annual monthly power consumption of 21,264 kWh (47.1%) and 12,756 kWh/yr (36.8%). The most installed Renewable Energy Sources (RES) in micro-grids (MG) are Photovoltaic (PV) power and wind power. Due to the intermittent behaviour of renewable sources, parallel operation of RES and battery storage known as hybrid system is important particularly in remote micro-grids to reduce the fuel consumption by diesel generators and continuity of supply to the load. In this paper, multilevel inverter called Packed E-Cell (PEC) is used for parallel operation of RES and battery storage optimally for micro-grid applications. The PEC requires less components compared to other Multi-level inverters (MLI) topology with relatively low total harmonic distortion (THD). Further, selective harmonic technique based on optimization principle is used to enhance the harmonic profile using low frequency switching technique. The 3rd and 5th harmonics are eliminated using Genetic Algorithm (GA) optimization technique. The simulation-based analysis is done using Simulink/MATLAB and the results obtained for THD in the output current and voltage are presented and discussed in the paper. A comparative analysis is also presented with high frequency modulation technique phase disposition pulse width modulation (PDPWM) technique. An efficacious and reliable power control technique has been developed which can be used to regulate the output power of a high-frequency full bridge series resonant inverter (HF-FBSRI) in an induction heating (IH) system. In this paper, a modified buck-boost converter is presented to control the DC link/bus voltage which maintains the IH system under resonant mode and optimizes the performance of the IH system. Controlled DC link/bus voltage has been applied to this HFFBSRI to control the average output power in the IH system. Using this aimed control technique, a wide range of output powers has been controlled and consistent performance of the IH system has been achieved. ZVS switching technique has been used to reduce the switching losses. Varying average power has been obtained at different duty cycles ranging from 0.2 to 0.8 with variable DC link voltage and it has been corroborated using PSIM environment for an IH system rated at 5500W. Fault clearing time plays an important role in maintaining power system stability and process survivability during major system faults under a variety of system configuration and topologies. Grid disturbance in the power system presents a very distinct challenge; lack of a utility interconnection hinders the system's ability to recover from loss of generation. The key factor in plant survivability during a grid fault is optimal use of a fast acting governor and a Flexible Alternating Current Transmission System device (FACTS) to maintain power system stability. In this paper, the core objective is to increase the critical fault clearing time of captive generator sets during a grid fault without violating the transient stability criteria recommended in IEC standards. As a remedial measure, a static VAR Compensator (SVC) was connected to the generator bus. For simulation purposes an IEEE General Steam-Turbine (STM) governor model and an IEEE AC5A excitation model were considered. A novel circuit topology of modified switched boost high frequency hybrid resonant inverter fitted induction heating equipment is presented in this paper for efficient induction heating. Recently, induction heating technique is becoming very popular for both domestic and industrial purposes because of its high energy efficiency and controllability. Generally in induction heating, a high frequency alternating magnetic field is required to induce the eddy currents in the work piece. High frequency resonant inverters are incorporated in induction heating equipment which produce a high frequency alternating magnetic field surrounding the coil. Previously this high frequency alternating magnetic field was produced by voltage source inverters. But VSIs have several demerits. So, in this paper, a new scheme of modified switched boost high frequency hybrid resonant inverter fitted induction heating equipment has been depicted which enhances the energy efficiency and controllability and the same is validated by PSIM. This paper investigates the behavior of a high frequency parallel quasiresonant inverter fitted domestic induction heater with different switching frequencies. The power semiconductor switch Insulated Gate Bipolar Junction Transistor (IGBT) is incorporated in this high frequency inverter that can operate under ZVS and ZCS conditions during the switching operations at certain switching frequency to reduce switching losses. The proposed induction heating system responds to three different switching frequencies with providing different results. An Insulated Gate Bipolar Junction Transistor (IGBT) provides better efficiency and faster switching operations. After the complete study of the proposed induction heating system at the selected switching frequencies, the results are compared and it is decided that most reliable, efficient and effective operations from the proposed induction heater can be obtained if the switching frequency is selected slightly above the resonant frequency of the tank circuit of the resonant inverter. Various power generation technologies, such as wind turbines and solar power plants, have been increasingly installed in renewable energy projects as a result of rising demand and ongoing efforts by global researchers to mitigate environmental effects. The sole source of energy for such generation is nature. The incorporation of the green unit into the power grid also results in volatility. The stabilization of frequencies is critical and depends on the balance of supply and demand. An efficient monitoring scheme called Load Frequency Monitoring (LFM) is introduced to reduce the frequency deviation from its natural state. Specific energy storage systems may be considered to improve the efficiency of the control system. The storage system contributes to the load rate, peak rushing, black start support, etc., in addition to high energy and rapid responsive features. A detailed study of different power storage systems, their current business scenario, and the application of LFM facilities, as well as their analysis and disturbance, is presented in this paper. According to the literature analysis, the current approaches can be divided into two categories: grid and load scale structures. In India, due to the high price of cooking gases, people still cook with noncommercial fuels like kerosene and firewood. These cause a lot of health problems and also harm the environment. A clean solution to this problem is to use a solar cooker. A solar cooker suffers from the problem of low utility and hence takes a longer period of time for cooking. To counter this problem and reduce cooking time, the solar cooker is tested with charcoal coated utensil. In this paper, a parabolic‐type domestic solar cooker is tested for the same utensil with and without cost effective thermal coating. It is observed that the effectiveness and efficiency of cooking is considerably increased by using the charcoal coating on the utensil. Considering the economic condition of the people of the selected area, this method provides a cost effective way to increase the cooking effectiveness of the solar cooker and reduce dependency on noncommercial fuels. Sagar Island which is located in the world's largest delta, the Sunderban, in the eastern coast of India faces severe power crunch. Due to its isolated location, the power infrastructure is underdeveloped. This has led to very unreliable power supply and frequent power cuts. The island being economically weak, power is inaccessible to most of its residents. Thus, the per unit energy consumption of the area is low and it has led to the lowering of the human development index of the area. However, Sagar Island, owing to its location, has huge solar and wind power potential. This paper discusses the prospect of developing a solar-wind hybrid power plant to supply power to the area. The developed hybrid renewable energy system (HRES) power plant will provide uninterrupted power to the island. Results show that the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) from the proposed power plant is 0.03707 $/kWh, which is lower than the LCOE from the available grid. Lowering the cost of electricity will make electricity accessible to most of the inhabitants of the island. This will, in turn, increase the per unit energy consumption and hence the human development index. The proposed power plant will also help the environment by reducing CO2 emissions by 1894.08 tonnes annually. It will also save 587.39 tonnes of coal in its lifetime.
