In this paper, dynamic instability of functionally graded carbon nanotubes (CNTs)-reinforced composite joined conical-cylindrical shell in supersonic flow is analyzed numerically. The higher-order shear deformation theory is applied to describe the stress–strain state of thin-walled structure. The assumed-mode method is used to derive the finite degrees-of-freedom dynamical system, which describes the structure motions. The structure motions are expanded by using the eigenmodes, which are obtained by the Rayleigh–Ritz method. The trial functions, which satisfy the continuity conditions at the cylindrical-cone junction, are used to obtain the eigenmodes. The properties of free vibrations of thin-walled structure are analyzed numerically. The dynamic instability of the joined conical-cylindrical shell in supersonic flow is analyzed using the characteristic exponents. As follows from the numerical study, the dynamic instability is arisen due to the Hopf bifurcation. In this paper, a novel car-following model is established integrating the drivers' memory of previous information. The drivers' memory of the vehicle ahead is introduced as an influencing factor on the drivers' expected behavior. The time delay feedback control term is added to the model to increase the stability interval of the system. By comparing the stability intervals of the controlled and uncontrolled models, the necessity of adding a delay feedback control item is demonstrated. The validity and feasibility of the time delay feedback control strategy are proved by numerical simulations. In this paper, the stability interval of the system is determined by the definite integral stability method (DISM) and the Hopf bifurcation analysis method. According to the number of unstable eigenvalues derived from the system eigenvalue equation, the appropriate time delay feedback control parameters are set. By choosing the optimal parameters, the new model can optimize the traffic flow to the maximum extent, eliminate the stop-and-go of vehicles, and make the traffic stable. Numerical examples close to actual traffic conditions are given to verify the feasibility of the control strategy using the verified design steps. In this paper we study generalized Poincaré-Andronov-Hopf bifurcations of discrete dynamical systems. We prove a general result for attractors in [Math Processing Error] n -dimensional manifolds satisfying some suitable conditions. This result allows us to obtain sharper Hopf bifurcation theorems for fixed points in the general case and other attractors in low dimensional manifolds. In this paper, we propose a Leslie–Gower predator–prey model with strong Allee effect on prey and fear effect on predator. We discuss the existence and local stability of equilibria by making full use of qualitative analytical theory. It is shown that the above system exhibits at most two positive equilibria and it can undergo a series of bifurcation phenomena. We indicate that the dynamical behavior of the model is closely related to the fear effect on predator. In detail, when the fear effect parameter p = p ∗ , the system will undergo degenerate Hopf bifurcation. There exist two limit cycles (the inner is stable and the outer is unstable). However, when p = p ∗ , the system will undergo degenerate Bogdanov–Takens bifurcation. Also, by numerical simulation, we conclude that the stronger the fear effect, the bigger the density of prey species. The above shows that fear effect on predator is beneficial to the persistence of the prey species. This paper proposes an extended neuron model with time delay. It aims to investigate the effect of time delay on the dynamical behavior of the system under different conditions. The existence of the Hopf bifurcation of the system and the stability of its periodic solution are proved by the central manifold theorem. In this paper, a new delayed within host model for dengue fever with immune response and Beddington–DeAngelis incidence is investigated. The basic reproduction number is computed. In addition, a detailed analysis on the local and global dynamics of the model is conducted. In a recent paper by Cantrell et al. [9], two-component KPP systems with competition of Lotka–Volterra type were analyzed and their long-time behaviour largely settled. In particular, the authors established that any constant positive steady state, if unique, is necessarily globally attractive. In the present paper, we give an explicit and biologically very natural example of oscillatory three-component system. Using elementary techniques or pre-established theorems, we show that it has a unique constant positive steady state with two-dimensional unstable manifold, a stable limit cycle, a predator–prey structure near the steady state, periodic wave trains and point-to-periodic rapid travelling waves. In this paper, we study the global existence of a bifurcating periodic solution for a two zooplankton-phytoplankton model with two delays. First, we demonstrate that the bifurcating periodic solution exists when one delay increases and the other delay remains unchanged. Second, we give simulation to describe the bifurcating periodic solution when one delay increases. Our work answers the question in Sect. 5 (Shi and Yu in Chaos Solitons Fractals 100:62–73, 2017). In this paper, we investigate the dynamics of a reaction-diffusion Nicholson's blowflies equation with advection. The stability of positive steady state and existence of Hopf bifurcation are obtained by analyzing the distribution of the eigenvalues. Moreover, by using the center manifold theory and normal form method, an explicit algorithm for determining the direction and stability of the Hopf bifurcation is derived. Meanwhile, we find out that the bifurcation value is increasing with respect to the advection rate. Finally, numerical results demonstrate that the advection term causes the population to move from upstream to downstream, which also indicates that advection term plays a key role in the description and interpretation of some common natural phenomena. The search for the Hopf bifurcation point in power systems can be made as the load is increased by small steps, and a power flow is solved for every load until a pair of purely imaginary eigenvectors has been found (zero real part). However, a search through successive power flows is time-consuming and does not guarantee that the Hopf bifurcation point will be found. This paper proposes a methodology and strategies that mitigate these problems. To increase the possibility of finding the Hopf bifurcation point, a continuation power flow is used to stablish search paths as the loading is incremented according to a fraction of the maximum loading point of the power system. It is only at specific converged continuation power flow that the dynamic state Jacobian matrix is constructed and has its eigenvalues computed. In this paper, we address the problem of bifurcation control for a delayed neuron system. By introducing a new fractional-order Proportional-Derivative (PD) feedback controller, this paper aims to control the stability and Hopf bifurcation through adjusting the control gain parameters. The order chosen in PD controller is different with that of the integer-order neuron system. Sufficient conditions for guaranteeing the stability and generating Hopf bifurcation are constructed for the controlled neuron system. Finally, numerical simulation results are illustrated to verify our theoretical derivations and the relationships between the onset of the Hopf bifurcation and the gain parameters are obtained. A subtle property of speech gestures is the fact that they are spatially and temporally extended, meaning that phonological contrasts are expressed using spatially extended constrictions , and have a finite duration. This paper shows how this spatiotemporal particulation of the vocal tract, for the purpose of linguistic signaling, comes about. It is argued that local uniform computations among topographically organized microscopic units that either constrict or relax individual points of the vocal tract yield the global spatiotemporal macroscopic structures we call constrictions, the locus of phonological contrast. The dynamical process is a morphogenetic one, based on the Turing and Hopf patterns of mathematical physics and biology. It is shown that reaction-diffusion equations, which are introduced in a tutorial mathematical style, with simultaneous Turing and Hopf patterns predict the spatiotemporal particulation, as well as concrete properties of speech gestures, namely the pivoting of constrictions, as well as the intermediate value of proportional time to peak velocity, which is well-studied and observed. The goal of the paper is to contribute to Bernstein's program of understanding motor processes as the emergence of low degree of freedom descriptions from high degree of freedom systems by actually pointing to specific, predictive, dynamics that yield speech gestures from a reaction-diffusion morphogenetic process. As a power system operating point alters its position due to variations in power injections, its small-signal stability margin (SSSM) may decrease. Under this situation, a network topology change via line switching can increase the SSSM. In this paper, an online line switching method for maximizing the SSSM is presented, taking into account both the solution quality and the required computational speed. To balance the tradeoff between speed and solution quality, the line switching method presented in this paper is composed of three stages: 1) screening; 2) ranking; and 3) detailed evaluation. This paper expounds the bifurcations of two-delayed fractional-order neural networks (FONNs) with multiple neurons. Leakage delay or communication delay is viewed as a bifurcation parameter, stability zones and bifurcation conditions with respect to them are commendably established, respectively. It declares that both leakage delay and communication delay immensely influence the stability and bifurcation of the developed FONNs. The explored FONNs illustrate superior stability performance if selecting a lesser leakage delay or communication delay, and Hopf bifurcation generates once they overstep their critical values. In this paper, we investigate a quadratic chaotic system modeling self-excited and hidden attractors which is described by a system of three nonlinear ordinary differential equations with three real parameters. The primary goal is to establish the existence of two limit cycles that bifurcate based on the system's nature as an electronic circuits model, specifically via Hopf bifurcation. Notably, the application of the first and second Lyapunov coefficients is utilized to demonstrate the bifurcation of two limit cycles from an equilibrium point near a Hopf critical point. Furthermore, employing the first-order averaging theory enables us to confirm the presence of unstable periodic orbits originating from the zero-Hopf equilibrium. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents the stability and bifurcation of the Hindmarsh–Rose neuronal model with time delay. First, we discuss the existence and stability of the equilibria, revealing that the system can have a maximum of three equilibria which exhibit always stable, always unstable, and stability switching dynamics, depending on the stability of the equilibria when there is no time delay. Furthermore, an explicit formula for the time delay at which Hopf bifurcation occurs is derived, and the direction and stability of the Hopf bifurcation are also given. Finally, numerical simulations are carried out to support our theoretical results. We find that due to the existence of time delay, our system can exhibit many interesting dynamical behaviors depending on the number of equilibria and the increase in time delay. For instance, with increasing time delay, bistability transitions to the coexistence of a periodic solution and a stable equilibrium, followed by the emergence of quasi-periodic motion alongside stable equilibria, and eventually leading to chaotic motion coexisting with a stable equilibrium. A two-degree-of-freedom nonlinear high-speed railway wheelset model with two time delays in the lateral and yaw dampers is studied. The aim is to investigate the effect of time delays on stability and Hopf bifurcation characteristics of the wheelset model. The local stability of the trivial equilibrium under different time delay conditions is qualitatively analyzed. Analytical studies reveal that the wheelset model undergoes stability switches with the variation of the time delays. The stability switches correspond to Hopf bifurcations that occur when the time delays cross critical values. Furthermore, properties of Hopf bifurcation including direction and stability of bifurcating limit cycles are studied by using the normal form theory and the center manifold theorem. Our findings indicate that time delays in both lateral dampers and yaw dampers influence the stability and direction of Hopf bifurcation. Additionally, the numerical results show that time delays in the lateral and yaw dampers not only affect the amplitude of the hunting motion of the wheelset but also the periodic and chaotic motions. If the time delays gradually increase, the wheelset will vibrate irregularly with large lateral displacements. In this paper, a diffusive zooplankton–phytoplankton model with time delay and hunting cooperation is established. First, the existence of all positive equilibria and their local stability are proved when the system does not include time delay and diffusion. Then, the existence of Hopf bifurcation at the positive equilibrium is proved by taking time delay as the bifurcation parameter, and the direction of Hopf bifurcation and the stability of bifurcating periodic solutions are investigated by using the center manifold theorem and the normal form theory in partial differential equations. Next, according to the theory of Turing bifurcation, the conditions for the occurrence of Turing bifurcation are obtained by taking the intraspecific competition rate of the prey as the bifurcation parameter. In this paper, a delayed fractional-order epidemic model with general incidence rate and incubation period is proposed for the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. The corresponding sufficient conditions are established to analyze the existence and stability of disease-free equilibrium and endemic equilibrium of the proposed model. The conditions for the existence of Hopf bifurcation are obtained by selecting the time delay as the bifurcation parameter. The control strategies for the COVID-19 pandemic are designed, and the corresponding delay fractional order optimal control problem (DFOCP) is analyzed based on the generalized Euler–Lagrange equation. The parameters of the model are identified based on the data of multiple types of the COVID-19 pandemic. Further, the effectiveness of the model in describing the trend of the COVID-19 pandemic is verified. Based on the results of parameter identification, the influence of incubation period on the COVID-19 pandemic is discussed. Recently, many scholars have discovered that fractional calculus possess infinite memory and can better reflect the memory characteristics of neurons. Therefore, this paper studies the Hopf bifurcation of a fractional‐order network with short‐cut connections structure and self‐delay feedback. Firstly, we use the Laplace transform to obtain the characteristic equation of the model, which is the transcendental equation containing four times transcendental item. Secondly, by selecting the communication delay as the bifurcation parameter and the other delay as the constant in its stability interval, the conditions for the occurrence of Hopf bifurcation are established; the bifurcation diagrams are provided to ensure that the derived bifurcation findings are accurate. Thirdly, in the case of identical neurons, the crossing curves method is exploited to the fractional‐order functional function equation to extract the Hopf bifurcation curve. The menstrual cycle of fertile female is regulated by multiple organs and hormones, controlling the reproductive health and fertility of females. This paper is dedicated to exploring how two negative feedback loops regulate and influence the dynamic behavior of the menstrual cycle. We simplified the regulation circuit of the menstrual cycle into a nonlinear differential equation with two time delays. This simplified mathematical model integrates the hypothalamus–pituitary–ovary primary negative feedback loop and the negative feedback auxiliary loop between the ovary and the pituitary. We investigated the delay-dependent conditions for the stability of the model’s equilibrium points and also demonstrated the presence of Hopf bifurcations. Theoretical analysis suggests that the primary feedback loop is the major factor driving oscillation in the system. Further numerical simulations indicate that the negative feedback auxiliary loop allows the system to adjust its amplitude while maintaining the robustness of the cycle length. Due to the random search of species and from the economic point of view, combined harvesting is more suitable than selective harvesting. Thus, we have developed and analyzed a prey–predator model with the combined effect of nonlinear harvesting in this research paper. Nonlinear harvesting possesses multiple predator-free and interior equilibrium points in the dynamical system. We have examined the local stability analysis of all the equilibrium points. Besides these various types, rich and complex dynamical behaviors such as backward, saddle-node, Hopf and Bogdanov–Takens (BT) bifurcations, homo-clinic loop and limit cycles appear in this model. Furthermore, interesting phenomena like bi-stability and tri-stability occur in our model between the different equilibrium points. Also, we have derived different threshold values of predator harvesting parameters and prey environmental carrying capacity from these bifurcations to obtain the different harvesting strategies for both species. We have observed that the extinction of predator species may not happen due to backward bifurcation, although a stable predator-free equilibrium (PFE) exists. In this paper, the dynamical behaviors of a new cytokine-enhanced HIV infection model with intracellular delay τ1, virus replication delay τ2 and immune response delay τ3 are investigated. The positivity and boundedness of all solutions for the model with non-negative initial values have been proved. Moreover, two important biological parameters, called the virus reproductive number R0 and the antibody immune reproductive number R1 are established. By constructing suitable Lyapunov functionals and using LaSalle’s invariance principle, the global dynamics of the equilibria is completely determined by R0 and R1. On the one hand, the results show that intracellular delay τ1, viral replication delay τ2 and immune response delay τ3 have no effect on the stability of E0, E1, and if τ1 ≥ 0, τ2 ≥ 0, τ3 = 0, the endemic equilibrium with the presence of antibody response E2 is globally asymptotically stable. On the other hand, when τ1 ≥ 0, τ2 ≥ 0, τ3 > 0, numerical analysis confirms the theorems and suggests that time delay play a positive role in virus infection, with the increase of τ3, the dynamic behavior of the equilibrium E2 will change as follows: locally asymptotically stable → unstable; Hopf bifurcation appears. In this paper, a diffusive predator–prey system with fear factor response subject to Neumann boundary conditions is considered. Bifurcations at the boundary equilibria of the corresponding ODE are confirmed by Sotomayor's theorem. Detailed bifurcation analysis shows that the reaction–diffusion system undergoes Hopf bifurcation and steady‐state bifurcation. The dynamical behaviors for a delay-diffusion housefly equation with two kinds of Dirichlet boundary conditions are considered in this paper. The existence and uniqueness of the steady state solutions are investigated, and the stability of the constant steady state solutions is obtained by using qualitative theory. The existence of Hopf bifurcation near the positive constant steady state solution is discussed and the expressions which can identify the bifurcation properties, including the stability of the bifurcating periodic solution and the bifurcation direction, are presented. This paper presents a detailed study on the dynamics of a three-species food chain system with memory-based delay under weak Allee effect and middle predator refuge. The local stability analyses of the non-diffusive and memory-based diffusion systems are investigated. Moreover, we give a priori estimates and obtain the existence of the positive constant steady state by applying the comparison theorem. Sufficient conditions for the global stability are established by Barbalat lemma and the Lyapunov function. The theoretical results suggest the joint effect of cross-diffusion and memory-based delay can lead to Hopf bifurcation, which cannot appear in the system with self-diffusion or a small cross-diffusion coefficient. In this paper, we provide the normal form for the Hopf bifurcation of a class of the reaction‐diffusion equation with memory‐based diffusion and nonlocal effect, where the delay is present in the differential term, similar to the chemotaxis model with time delay. The eigenvalue problems and the decomposition of the phase space are discussed in detail. Through a series of variable transformations, we obtain the third‐order truncated normal form of the model constrained on the central manifold and its equivalent equation in polar coordinates. Then, with the help of the dynamic analysis for the finite dimensional equations, the key parameters for determining the direction and stability of the Hopf bifurcation are given. These theoretical results are applied to the Bazykin's model, the stability, Turing bifurcation and Hopf bifurcation of the equilibrium are demonstrated through both theoretical and numerical methods. In this work, a new glucose–insulin model incorporating time delay and obesity is developed to gain insights of its dynamical mechanisms. Through the method of multiple scales, we theoretically demonstrate that time delay can drive the system to yield Hopf bifurcation, thereby producing oscillating solutions that are consistent with the simulation results. Moreover, obesity changes the level of glucose, but cannot induce oscillations. In particular, it is found that under the combined effect of obesity and time delay, obesity delays the appearance of Hopf bifurcation which is induced by time delay. Results show that a low calorie diet can achieve therapeutic effects including reducing blood glucose fluctuations and insulin resistance, which can be used as an adjuvant for the treatment of diabetes. In addition, our results indicate that the delay, together with an optimal rate of model parameters can cause a variety of dynamics and induce glucose oscillations. The result obtained in this paper may help to better understand the obesity, diabetes, and the interaction between glucose and insulin, so that control strategies can be designed to better regulate blood glucose levels and fluctuations and mitigate the occurrence of type-2 diabetes. In this paper, an age-structured predator–prey system with Beddington–DeAngelis (B–D) type functional response, prey refuge and harvesting is investigated, where the predator fertility function f(a) and the maturation function β (a) are assumed to be piecewise functions related to their maturation period τ . Firstly, we rewrite the original system as a non-densely defined abstract Cauchy problem and show the existence of solutions. In particular, we discuss the existence and uniqueness of a positive equilibrium of the system. Secondly, we consider the maturation period τ as a bifurcation parameter and show the existence of Hopf bifurcation at the positive equilibrium by applying the integrated semigroup theory and Hopf bifurcation theorem. Moreover, the direction of Hopf bifurcation and the stability of bifurcating periodic solutions are studied by applying the center manifold theorem and normal form theory. In this paper, we study a predator--prey mite model of Leslie type with generalized Holling IV functional response. The model is shown to have very rich bifurcation dynamics, including subcritical and supercritical Hopf bifurcations, degenerate Hopf bifurcation, focustype and cusp-type degenerate Bogdanov--Takens bifurcations of codimension 3, originating from a nilpotent focus or cusp of codimension 3 that acts as the organizing center for the bifurcation set. Coexistence of multiple steady states, multiple limit cycles, and homoclinic cycles is also found. Interestingly, the coexistence of two limit cycles is guaranteed by investigating generalized Hopf bifurcation and degenerate homoclinic bifurcation, and we also find that two generalized Hopf bifurcation points are connected by a saddle-node bifurcation curve of limit cycles, which indicates the existence of global regime for two limit cycles. In this paper, a reaction-diffusion population model with Dirichlet boundary condition and a directed movement oriented by a temporally distributed delay is proposed to describe the lasting memory of animals moving over space. The temporal kernel of the memory is taken as Gamma distribution function, among which there are two biologically meaningful cases: one is the weak kernel which implies that animals can immediately acquire knowledge and memory decays over time, the other is the strong kernel by which we assume that animals' memory undergoes learning and memory decay stages. It is shown that the population stabilizes to a positive steady state and aggregates in the interior of the territory when the delay kernel is the weak type. In the strong kernel case, oscillatory patterns can first arise via a Hopf bifurcation with a small memory delay and then vanish when the system undergoes a Hopf bifurcation with a large memory delay, which implies that stability switch occurs and spatial-temporal patterns emerge for intermediate value of delays. The red palm weevil is one of the most dangerous pests affecting date palm trees in the Gulf region and the Middle East. This paper investigates the control of the red palm weevil (RPW) in date palms using several techniques, namely stem injection, sex pheromone traps, and the Sterile Insect Technique. A mathematical model describing the spread of the red palm weevil is presented, and the boundedness of the solution for the RPW system is studied. The conditions for local stability, forward bifurcation, and Hopf bifurcation are also obtained. Additionally, this research highlights the significance of optimal control in managing RPW and simulates the model using the Forward-Backward Sweep numerical method. It is observed that the parameters of the sterile insect technique, the pheromone trap, and the mechanical injection play important roles in controlling the RPW. In this paper, we consider a spatially size–stage-structured population dynamics model with resting phase. The primary objective of this model is to study size structure, stage structure, resting phase and spatial location simultaneously in a single population system. At first, we reformulate the problem as an abstract nondensely defined Cauchy problem. In the Antarctic, the whale population had been reduced dramatically due to the unregulated whaling. It was expected that Antarctic krill, the main prey of whales, would grow significantly as a consequence and exploratory krill fishing was practiced in some areas. However, it was found that there has been a substantial decline in abundance of krill since the end of whaling, which is the phenomenon of krill paradox. In this paper, to study the krill–whale interaction we revisit a harvested predator–prey model with Holling I functional response. We find that the model admits at most two positive equilibria. When the two positive equilibria are located in the region { (N , P) | 0 ≤ N < 2 N c , P ≥ 0 } , the model exhibits degenerate Bogdanov–Takens bifurcation with codimension up to 3 and Hopf bifurcation with codimension up to 2 by rigorous bifurcation analysis. When the two positive equilibria are located in the region { (N , P) | N > 2 N c , P ≥ 0 } , the model has no complex bifurcation phenomenon. When there is one positive equilibrium on each side of N = 2 N c , the model undergoes Hopf bifurcation with codimension up to 2. Moreover, numerical simulation reveals that the model not only can exhibit the krill paradox phenomenon but also has three limit cycles, with the outmost one crosses the line N = 2 N c under some specific parameter conditions. Ecotoxicological models play a vital role in understanding the inuence of toxicants on population dynamics in contaminated aquatic ecosystems. Traditional differential equation models describing interactions between populations and toxicants typically assume instantaneous population growth, overlooking potential time delays associated with reproductive and maturation processes. In this paper, we introduce two models with time delays to investigate the interaction between a population and a toxicant, where the population growth is governed by a delayed logistic equation. We mainly focus on the stability analysis of the steady states of the models. Our fndings indicate that high toxicant concentrations result in population extinction, whereas moderate toxicant levels can potentially induce bistability, where the population's fate, whether persistence or extinction, depends on the initial densities of the population and toxicant. Furthermore, both our theoretical analysis and numerical simulations demonstrate that the time delay can lead to the destabilization of the coexistence steady states and the appearance of periodic solutions through Hopf bifurcation. In this paper, we study one type of predator–prey model with simplified Holling type IV functional response by incorporating the fear effect into prey species. The existence and stability of all equilibria of the system are studied. And bifurcation behaviors including saddle-node bifurcation, transcritical bifurcation and Hopf bifurcation of the system are completely explored. Numerical simulation is carried out to illustrate the theoretical analysis. It is shown that the fear effect does affect some dynamic behaviors of the system. In this paper, a new four-dimensional (4D) hyperchaotic biplane system is designed and presented. The dynamical properties of this new system are studied by means of tools such as bifurcation diagrams, Lyapunov exponents and phase diagrams. The Hopf bifurcation and periodic solutions of this hyperchaotic system are solved analytically. In this paper, the dynamical behavior of a predator-prey model with discrete time is discussed in terms of both theoretical analysis and numerical simulation. The existence and stability of four equilibria are analyzed. It is proved that the system undergoes Flip bifurcation and Hopf bifurcation around its unique positive equilibrium point using center manifold theorem and bifurcation theory. Additionally, by applying small perturbations to the bifurcation parameter, chaotic cases occur at some corresponding internal equilibria.
