Purpose The purpose of this paper is to review current literature on knowledge management processes considering the relationship between the key knowledge processes of acquisition, sharing, storage, codification, creation, application and different types of innovation, through a systematic literature review.Design/methodology/approach This study follows systematic review protocols for management and organisational sciences and analyses 45 full papers on knowledge management processes and innovation.Findings Results not only show that all knowledge processes can directly support innovation but also that other organisational variables (e.g. organisational learning, absorptive capacity) mediate this relationship. Moreover, knowledge creation and knowledge application appear as two central processes through which knowledge acquisition, sharing, codification and storage influence innovation. Knowledge acquisition and knowledge sharing are the most frequently studied knowledge processes. The majority of the sample papers present traditional innovation definitions (product vs process, radical vs incremental and technical vs administrative). However, organisational innovation, innovation capability and innovation performance approaches emerge from the papers’ analysis.Research limitations/implications The present review includes major scientific papers; however, the search is limited to the Web of ScienceTM platform.Originality/value This literature review analyses high-quality, peer-reviewed papers, following a systematic methodology that can be tested and updated. Papers were divided based upon the knowledge process(es) being analysed and the innovation type/approach, providing a twofold contribution to knowledge management and innovation literature. Purpose: This paper conceptually aims to discuss the dual role of knowledge management (KM) and technological innovation, which brings about innovations, although it can be limited by psychological and emotional ownership. Design/methodology/approach: This study examines the real impact of the paper on KM and technological innovation in family small to medium enterprises (FSMEs). This is a unique context affected by psychological and emotional ownership. However, COVID-19 has forced FSMEs to consider new strategies and practices to preserve their competitive advantage. Findings: In this scenario, knowledge exchange, knowledge absorption and technology adoption appear relevant to the innovation process. This study offers a framework for how the duality of KM and technological innovation affects innovation. The article discusses that knowledge management is an emerging area for industry and government. Knowledge management deals with how best to leverage knowledge internally and externally. One of the key components of most knowledge management strategies is to use online communities. These web-based communities should lead to a strong sense of belonging, improved people-to-people connections and, ultimately, innovation and learning. An important question that surfaces at some point in the life of these online communities is how to measure their value to the organisation.

Besides the substantial advantages of adopting information and communication technologies (ICTs), software small medium enterprises (SSMEs) face major challenges largely connected to knowledge sharing, security, and management of data and information. The objective of this paper is to propose a platform backed with the advantages of blockchain technologies, allowing intra‐ and inter‐organizational knowledge and information sharing in SSMEs without losing control and ownership. Blockchain technology has the potential to bring about significant improvements in enhancing business models and processes wherein the authenticity of data is provided by smart contracts at every access point in a distributed information cycle in a transparent manner. The findings will support businesses in enhancing information flow, innovation, and competitive advantage in the current dynamic market. Unlike existing studies, which merely discuss the broader use of blockchain technology in the SSME domain, this paper provides a fresh promising direction in transforming SSMEs digitally. Purpose: Nowadays, technology and knowledge management are becoming key components in business management methods. The paper aims is to indicate different ways of approaching technology management, taking into account factors shaping the market and determining barriers to making long-term decisions but also the ongoing digital transformation. Methodology/Approach: The paper is a general review of technology management methods in enterprises and is based on the analysis of available domestic and foreign source literature, a synthesis of studies and reports of selected organizations dealing with the analyzed issues, as well as the authors’ previous theoretical research. Findings: The research results indicate an increase in the importance of knowledge and technology management, which result from the pace of technological change and the ongoing digital transformation in many areas that directly affect the functioning of an enterprise in the modern world. Practical implications: The paper indicates methods of knowledge and technology management based on the challenges of modern enterprises related to digital transformation and resulting from the turbulent changes in the market of new technologies. Based on the conducted experience, the authors diagnosed key factors and elements related to methods of acquiring technology to achieve competitive advantage and improve economic efficiency. Originality: The article expands knowledge about the impact of technology development on enterprise management methods, as well as points to current challenges arising from the issue of knowledge management, taking into account the need for selected enterprises to make long-term financial decisions. The paper presents a comprehensive assessment of the strengths and limitations of the intellectual property (IP) system in Poland. It offers policy recommendations to fully exploit the potential of IP to support an innovation-based economy. It finds that the key components of an effective IP strategy in Poland should include the promotion of IP use among economic actors and other stakeholders as well as information campaigns and training programmes to raise awareness and knowledge about the advantages of IP. Recommendations also include reducing barriers to IP use by lowering the costs of and simplifying IP-related procedures, and promoting the valorisation of IP held by universities to enhance technology transfer to the business sector. Strategic intelligence is indeed an important tool for an organization as it plays a crucial role in enabling the companies for embracing and implementing the innovation and hence framing innovative strategies. Strategic intelligence includes foresight, visioning, and motivating for achieving organizational excellence. Studies done in the past proves that it contributes in ensuring effective decision making and gaining a greater competitive position comparing with competitors. Thus owing to its significant contribution in encouraging business activities forensuring the entrepreneurial orientation successful implementation, for attaining an enhanced business performance and hence organizational excellence, it is gaining attention from several researchers. Therefore the present research paper aims at finding out the factors of strategic intelligence in organizations and their impact on organizational excellence and stakeholders. IT and ITES companies of Delhi NCR were selected as sample for the purpose of the paper. Analysis is done with the help of "Structural Equation Model (SEM) based on Standardised Coefficient on Intelligence". Results of the paper demonstrate that "strategic intelligence, business intelligence, artificial intelligence and knowledge management" are the key factors of strategic intelligence that influence the organizational excellence positively. This community began as a minitrack in HICSS-27 and has since evolved into full track status with the name Knowledge, Innovation, and Entrepreneurial Systems for HICSS-50. Open innovation (OI) has received significant attention from practices and theories over the past decades. This paper investigates the role of OI and personalized patterns in firms at home and abroad, and then measures the risks involved. Firstly, this paper reviews the definition of OI, the business model innovation characteristics, and the facing problems in practice. Based on the existing literature, we illustrate the openness and challenges of business OI. By introducing bibliometrics, this paper presents a whole research framework. Based on keywords cooccurrence analysis and clustering analysis, we locate the current research hotspots and potential research opportunities from a comprehensive perspective. According to the analysis results, five clusters are obtained, including resource management and value creation; collective innovation and form sustainability; innovation management, intellectual property management, and crossborder cooperation; knowledge management and knowledge sharing; innovation ecosystem, big data, and policy-level innovation. Taking Huawei as an example, its typical business OI model is studied from the perspectives of organizational, project-related, marketing and consumer-based, and summaries the facing challenges and risks. We illustrate its financial performance, innovation performance, and development prospects. We found that, during the implementation of OI practical activities and theoretical exploration, the risks and opportunities facing small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are multiple dimensional. The concept of Knowledge Management has evolved considerably over time and is increasingly becoming of interest to current companies and implicitly to small and medium-sized enterprises. The technological era and the constant challenges faced in the current context lead small and mediumsized enterprises to use new techniques to gain notoriety in the market and achieve new competitive advantages. The purpose of this paper is to perform a semantic analysis of wisdom management that constitutes the driving force for a wise company. That is a company whose goal goes beyond the economic paradigm based on profit maximization. It is a company where managers apply practical wisdom in their decision making processes. Aristotle used to call this practical wisdom phronesis and to consider a higher-order knowledge in his knowledge ontology. Although in the literature there are many papers and books focusing on phronesis, there is no critical analysis from a semantic point of view that is necessary to understand what it is and how it can be applied in wisdom management. Also, for a deeper investigation of the semantic clusters associated with wisdom management, we perform a bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer, a specialized software for such kinds of studies. Our findings show that wisdom management represents a kind of idealistic process because it is based on o set of values that are not converging toward profit maximization but toward a sustainable company focusing on the well-being of all employees and of the community where the company operates. Purpose: The aims of this paper is to present views of 13 experts who attended a roundtable discussion. Design/methodology/approach: This article provides a narration of a conference roundtable. The questions by the moderator and a summary of the responses by panellists are provided. Findings: Worldwide Hospitality and Tourism Themes (WHATT) is playing a significant applied research role in the world of hospitality and tourism. Further, since 2013, the International Conference on Hospitality and Tourism Management (ICOHT), had been well attended and successful. In 2021, The International Institute of Knowledge Management included a WHATT roundtable in the programme of the 8th ICOHT. Twelve experts from the industry and academia were invited as panellists. They represented eight countries (Canada, Guyana, Iran, Jamaica, the Philippines, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and the USA). The lead author of this article moderated the roundtable discussion. In conclusion, 20 of the key implementable concepts and suggestions for the post-pandemic era within hospitality and tourism industry, evolved from the WHATT roundtable at the 8th ICOHT in 2021, are presented. The power of knowledge has become one of the main pillars on which one can rely on in a world governed by unpredictability and constant change. The process of knowledge sharing requires a trust climate in which one voluntarily choose to exchange information, values, and beliefs, making Psychological Safety (PS) a shelter to consider under the current hypercompetitive environment, allowing individuals to freely speak up and take risks. The present paper brings into attention creativity, trust, innovation, and transformational leadership as significant pillars of PS, highlighting the bilateral relation between them in conjunction with its effect on Knowledge Sharing. Using a qualitative methodology through bibliometric research in VOSviewer, 759 publications were taken into account to design a statistical bibliography map created by 304 keywords. The results of the paper indicates a positive effect of PS on knowledge sharing process, which is being mediated by innovation, creativity, trust, and transformational leadership. The special issue is introduced and contextualised. "Technological paradigms" emerged as "science push" models of innovation were being displaced by "demand pull" models that justified a more international, market-focussed political economy. Technological paradigms help explain the strengths and weaknesses of both models and why the governance choice is not between either markets or governments, but an appropriate mixture of both. While "technological paradigms" have successfully shifted policy and management attention to building stocks of knowledge, they still have substantial underexploited analytical potential. Purpose The rise of new information and communication technologies forms the cornerstone for the future development of work. The term Industry 4.0 refers to the vision of a fourth industrial revolution that is based on a network of autonomous, self-controlling, self-configuring, knowledge-based, sensor-based and spatially distributed production resources. All in all, different forms of the application of the Industry 4.0 concept can be observed, ranging from autonomous logistic transport systems drawn upon the idea of swarm intelligence to smart knowledge management systems. This paper aims to develop a theoretical framework to analyze different applications of Industry 4.0 on an organizing continuum. The general research questions are: What forms of organizing digitalized work lead to the reproduction of routines, and what forms foster innovation within Industry 4.0? The authors thus analyze the consequences of different forms of organizing work on workers’ perceptions and the results of the working process.Design/methodology/approach This paper provides case studies for different stages of the organizing continuum in the context of Industry 4.0. The cases and a further analysis of all 295 funded projects are based on the Platform Industry 4.0 Map, which is part of the Industry 4.0 initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The consequences for people acting in such organizational and digitally supported structures are discussed.Findings A variety of applications of Industry 4.0 can be found. These applications mainly vary in the dimensions of the degree of formalization, the location of control authority, the location of knowledge and the degree of professionalization. At the right side of the organizing continuum, the digitalization organizes a work environment that supports highly qualified humans. They have broad leeway and a high degree of autonomy to design and create innovative forms of digitalization for tomorrow. At the left side of the organizing continuum, Industry 4.0 structures a work environment with narrow leeway, a low degree of autonomy and a top-down structure of control authority predetermined by digital applications. In this case, employees fill the gaps the machines cannot handle.Research limitations/implications As the paper focuses on Industry 4.0 developments in Germany, the comparability with regard to other countries is limited. Moreover, the methodological approach is explorative, and broader quantitative verification is required. Specifically, future research could include quantitative methods to investigate the employees’ perspective on Industry 4.0. A comparison of Industry 4.0 applications in different countries would be another interesting option for further research.Practical implications This paper shows that applications of Industry 4.0 are currently at a very early stage of development and momentarily organize more routines than innovations. From a practical point of view, professional vocational and academic training will be a key factor for the successful implementation of digitalization in future. A joint venture of industry and educational institutions could be a suitable way to meet the growing demand for qualified employees from the middle to the right-hand of the organizing continuum in the context of Industry 4.0.Social implications Industry 4.0 is designed by men, and therefore, humans are responsible for whether the future work situation will be perceived as supportive or as an alienated routine. Therefore, designers of Industry 4.0, as well as politicians and scientists, absolutely must take the underlying outcomes of digitalized work into account and must jointly find socially acceptable solutions.Originality/value This paper provides a promising avenue for future research on Industry 4.0 by analyzing the underlying organizational structures of digital systems and their consequences for employees. Purpose: This study aims to provide empirical evidence on the linkage between knowledge management (KM), intellectual capital (IC), planning effectiveness (PE) and innovation performance in Italian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Design/methodology/approach: Survey data from 172 Italian SMEs was collected through an online questionnaire and analyzed using structural equation modeling (partial least square). Findings: Results show that KM practices have a positive direct impact on each IC component which influences PE. Finally, structural capital and PE have a positive direct impact a firm's ability to innovate. Research limitations/implications: For researchers, this paper fills an important gap in the academic literature by conceptualizing and empirically testing the link between IC and PE. The main practical implication of this study is that developing intangible resources is of particular importance for strategic decision-making in SMEs. The focus on Italian SMEs limits the generalizability of the results. Originality/value: This study provides empirical evidence on how KM and IC interact and mutually drive PE. Second, results shed light on the importance of IC to enhance a firm's ability to reach its goals. In Industry-Academia Collaborations (IAC) both academic, scientific research results and industrial practitioner findings and experiences are produced. Both types of knowledge should be gathered, codified, and disseminated efficiently and effectively. This paper investigates a recent (2014–2017) large-scale IAC R&D&I program case (Need for Speed, N4S) from a learning perspective. It was one of the programs in the Finnish SHOK (Strategic Centres of Science, Technology, and Innovation) system. The theoretical bases are in innovation management, knowledge management, and higher education (university) pedagogy. In the future, IAC projects should be more and more commonplace since major innovations are hardly ever done in isolation, not even by the largest companies. Both intra-organizational and inter-organizational learning networks are increasingly critical success factors. Collaborative learning capabilities will thus be required more often from all the participating parties. Efficient and effective knowledge creation and sharing are underpinning future core competencies. In this paper, we present and evaluate a collaboratively created and publicly shared digital knowledge repository called "Treasure Chest" produced during our case program. The starting point was a jointly created Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA), which defined the main research themes and listed motivating research questions to begin with—i.e., intended learning outcomes (ILO). During the 4-year program, our collaborative industry-academia (I-A) learning process produced a range of theoretical and empirical results, which were iteratively collected and packaged into the Treasure Chest repository. Outstandingly, it contained, in addition to traditional research documents, narratives of the industrial learning experiences and more than 100 actionable knowledge items. In conclusion, our vision of the future is that such transparently shared, ambitious, and versatile outcome goals with a continuous integrative collection of the results are keys to effective networked I-A collaboration and learning. In that way, the N4S largely avoided the general problem of often conflicting motives between industrial firms seeking answers and applied solutions to their immediate practical problems and academic researchers aiming at more generalizable knowledge creation and high-quality scientific publications. Research in multiskilling experiences an incremental trend from academic, industrial, and governmental point of views. Different methodologies have been used in previous research to identify best practices in multiskilling. A comprehensive and critical review of the literature creates in-depth insight into the dynamics of multiskilling in different settings. Accordingly, the aim of this literature review was twofold. First, it set out to present appropriate classifications to illustrate the ramifications of crosstraining in order to help create a better understanding of this concept. Second, it aimed to identify research gaps that can be the focus of future research. A two-stage paper screening methodology was used to collect relevant papers. This study classified papers from the early introduction of multiskilling in the construction industry until the present and categorized crosstraining based on configuration, strategy, collateral effects, context, and mainstream research. The main contribution of this study is to identify theoretical gaps in crosstraining research and to discuss the interaction and dependency between different studies. Furthermore, it paves the way for comprehensive studies to produce more realistic knowledge that considers both technical and managerial details. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim/Purpose The aim of this paper is to examine the influences of KM-centred strategies on innovation capability among Malaysian R&D firms. It also deepens understanding of the pathways and conditions to improve the innovation capability by assessing the mediating role of both KM practices, i.e., knowledge exploration practices, and knowledge exploitation practices. Background Knowledge is the main organisational resource that is able to generate a competitive advantage through innovation. It is a critical success driver for both knowledge exploration and exploitation for firms to achieve sustainable competitive advantages. Methodology A total of 320 questionnaires were disseminated to Malaysian R&D firms and the response rate was 47 percent. The paper utilised structural equation modelling and cross-sectional design to test hypotheses in the proposed research model. Contribution This paper provides useful information and valuable initiatives in exploring the mediating role of knowledge exploration and knowledge exploitation in influencing innovation in Malaysian R&D firms. It helps R&D firms to frame their KM activities to drive the capability of creating and retaining a greater value onto their core business competencies. Findings The findings indicate that all three KM-centred strategies (leadership, HR practices, and culture) have a direct effect on innovation. In addition, KM exploration practices mediate HR practices on innovation while KM exploitation mediates both leadership and HR practices on innovation. Recommendations for Practitioners This paper serves as a guide for R&D managers to determine the gaps and appropriate actions to collectively achieve the desired R&D results and national innovation. It helps R&D firms frame their KM activities to enhance the capability of creating and retaining a greater value to their core business competencies. Recommendations for Researchers This paper contributes significantly to knowledge management and innovation research by establishing new associations among KM-centred strategies, i.e., leadership, HR practices, and culture, both KM practices (knowledge exploration and knowledge exploitation), and innovation. Impact on Society This paper highlights the important role of knowledge leaders and the practice of effective HR practices to help R&D firms to create a positive environment that facilitates both knowledge exploration and knowledge exploitation in enhancing innovation capabilities. Future Research Further research could use a longitudinal sample to examine relationships of causality, offering a more comprehensive view of the effect of KM factors on innovation over the long term. This research proposes to shed light on the antecedents and outcomes of coupled open innovation in the specific context of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Drawing on the open innovation paradigm, knowledge-based view (KBV), and contingency theory, the paper constructs and tests a research model that investigates the effect of coupled open innovation on firm performance; the impact of knowledge management capability, knowledge appropriation capability, and environmental dynamism on coupled open innovation; and also the mediating role of collaborative open innovation practices. Using a sample of 228 SMEs operating in the Tunisian manufacturing industry, our results based on structural equation modeling (SEM) demonstrate that coupled open innovation positively and significantly influences firm performance. Furthermore, our findings confirm the crucial impact of knowledge management capacity and knowledge appropriation capacity in the implementation of coupled open innovation approach. The role of environmental dynamism in the adoption of collaborative practices is also proven in the SME context. Moreover, the results of our study add to the existing literature by empirically demonstrating the potential mediating role of coupled open innovation in the relationships that link knowledge management capacity, knowledge appropriation capacity, and environmental dynamism with SME performance, respectively. In this sense, this paper goes even further in the research on open innovation, as one of the first to fill an interesting gap regarding the antecedents of coupled open innovation and its implication on performance in the specific context of SMEs. In doing so, our research, through its results, provides interesting suggestions for SME managers who implement or intend to implement coupled open innovation to improve the performance of their company. Following an empirical analysis of the literature review covering neuroplasticity, growth mindset, lifelong learning and knowledge dynamics, the paper aims to revels the connection between these forces and understand the influence each other plays in stimulating the brain, increasing its capacity and ensuing an enhanced personal and professional development. This paper aims to present a literature review focusing the linkages between the knowledge strategies domain and intelligence structures area. Considering the fact that knowledge is one of the most important strategic resources of an organization and the fact that intelligence structures play a key role in the national security field, the possibility of implementing the knowledge strategies concepts in the intelligence field should be researched accordingly. The methodology used for this research is the bibliometric analysis conducted using the specialized software VOSViewer, based on the co-occurrence between certain words and expressions from article title, abstracts and keywords. The databases needed for this research were retrieved from Scopus core collection, using the following expressions: "knowledge strategies", "knowledge management – knowledge strategies", "intelligence organizations", "intelligence structures", "intelligence organizations – knowledge", "knowledge – intelligence structures", "knowledge strategies – intelligence", "knowledge management – knowledge strategies – intelligence" and "knowledge management – intelligence organizations". The result of these bibliometric analyses demonstrates that, based on the publications indexed in Scopus core collection, there is no research published regarding the opportunity and possibility of implementing knowledge strategies concepts in the intelligence structure vision. The contribution of this research constitutes the fact that this is the first bibliometric analysis of the literature concerning the possbile connections between knowledge strategies and intelligence structures. It conceptualise indigenous knowledge, indigenous knowledge management and emerging technologies. The different Indigenous knowledge of Akwa Ibom State were explored. The emerging technologies for management of indigenous knowledge were evaluated. The paper concluded that indigenous knowledge is the identity and prestige of the local people as their cultural heritage over centuries are embedded in it. Hence, it should be adequately managed by public libraries for posterity of the local people and indeed the world over. The paper recommends among others that government should adequately equip public libraries in Akwa Ibom State with emerging technological tools as well as provide constant internet connections for effective management of indigenous knowledge. This paper addresses the management of digital–informational transformation of industrial enterprises. Any transformation requires the coordinated action of several independent actors. Similarly, the digital–informational transformation required for the fourth industrial revolution (i.e., Industry 4.0) requires the involvement of multiple actors from the public and private sectors. This applies to an individual company as well as to the entire sector, regardless of the desired level of transformation. The increasing dissolution of boundaries between industrial and non-industrial actors is therefore essential for Industry 4.0. This paper addresses the above dissolution activities, focusing on cross-company networks and management issues. The management aspects of the following factors are examined: culture change, strategies, degree of digitalization, degree of networking, Internet of Things, digital ecosystems, human resources, organizational development, hierarchies, cross-functional collaboration, cost drivers, innovation pressures, supply chains, enterprise resource planning systems and corporate acquisitions/mergers. Based on the findings on the above factors, a management-driven model of the "transformation to Industry 4.0" for manufacturing companies is presented and discussed. This paper focuses on the critical roles of knowledge workers when a firm pursues a major innovation project. In this context, we consider knowledge workers as those who contribute to a firm's performance at the executive, management, and technical specialist levels. Technical specialists include persons with advanced skills in engineering, analytics, statistics, science, and economics. By analyzing a series of case studies and personal interviews, we demonstrate that alignment (i.e., coordination, integration, and collaboration) among these knowledge workers is critical for the success of an innovation project. The paper concludes with a discussion of the responsibilities of knowledge workers at the executive, management, and technical specialist levels to ensure the necessary alignment occurs for successful innovation. Although recognised as useful, ambidextrous innovation also presents unique managerial challenges particularly when exploration and exploitation are pursued simultaneously. The paper aims to explore the forming mechanisms of firm's ambidextrous innovation capabilities using the main approaches in strategic management. The authors theoretically examine the direct effects of the digital economy (DE) on ambidextrous innovation capabilities and the mediating effect of knowledge acquisition (KA) and use the stepwise regression method to conduct an empirical analysis of 178 high-tech companies listed in China's A-share market from 2013 to 2019. The empirical results show that DE has significantly promoted the ambidextrous innovation capabilities of firms, and also has a significant positive impact on the balance effect between exploratory innovation and exploitative innovation; DE has a significant positive impact on both external knowledge acquisition (EKA) and internal knowledge creation; KA has a significantly positive effect on exploratory innovation, exploitative innovation and their balance effect, and the effect of KA on exploratory innovation is greater than that on exploitative innovation. Furthermore, KA plays a significantly mediating role in the relationship between DE and exploratory innovation/exploitative innovation. The findings of our study provide insights for knowledge management research and have important guiding significance for promoting ambidextrous innovation capabilities of firms in DE. This paper analyzes the impact of inherited parent firm knowledge on the performance of foreign operations in global industries. I argue that transfers of parent firm knowledge provide different advantages to foreign operations, depending on the technological characteristics of the foreign country and the type of knowledge transferred. Results from a comprehensive panel of U.S. multinational corporations (MNCs), using fixed effects and system general method of moments (GMM) models to correct for endogeneity issues, show that inherited parent firm knowledge is not equally valuable in all countries. The transfer of technological knowledge is value-creating when home country innovation dominates and when parent firm knowledge is transferred to foreign operations in lagging technology countries (when foreign technology dominates). Further, combining managerial knowledge transfers with local subsidiary investments in innovation is shown to boost the performance of foreign operations located in leading technology countries, suggesting that the prior experiences, connections, and knowledge of expatriate managers, can be particularly useful in managing new knowledge generated in these countries. Overall, this paper extends our understanding of knowledge management within MNCs by exploring when transfers of parent technological and managerial knowledge are more likely to improve the performance of foreign operations in increasingly globally competitive industries. This paper starts with a critical assessment of the recent paper by Cowan, Foray and David. It also provides the authors' own assessment of why the tacit/codified distinction is important in relation to economic analysis and knowledge management practice. The criticism of Cowan, Foray and David centres on three points. Firstly, it is argued that the discussion on codification must make the fundamental distinction between knowledge about the world (know-what) and knowledge in the form of skills and competence (know-how). Secondly, it is argued that the dichotomy between codifiable and non-codifiable knowledge is problematic since it is rare that a body of knowledge can be completely transformed into codified form without losing some of its original characteristics and that most forms of relevant knowledge are mixed in these respects. Thirdly, we contest their implicit assumption that codification always represents progress. We conclude that for these reasons their intellectual exercise of extending definitions of what is codified and possible to codify, while in principle addressing very important issues related to innovation policy and knowledge management, ends up having limited practical implications for these areas. Purpose: This paper aims to shed light on the mechanisms that connect dynamic capabilities and organizational knowledge in the innovative process to offer a new theoretical and practical solution considering the microfoundations of knowledge management strategies. Design/methodology/approach: This research has emerged from an in-depth case study of an effective innovation (from just ethanol and sugar-production to an effective biomass plant). The study represents an "inductive inquiry," useful to understand specific "organizational mechanisms" of innovation, where the main data came from in-depth interviews with 18 key actors. It proved to help search the development of a specific biomass plant, designed and implemented between 2000 and 2007 in a Brazilian ethanol and sugar-production large company, referred to here as "Energyplant." Findings: This solution provides a new perspective based on the idea that dynamic capabilities are context-dependent and presents an original typological map that shows and materializes dynamic capabilities as teams of human-based resources. Managerial implications can be drawn from the capabilities typological map highlighting that, although identical dynamic capabilities are not required to change different firms, idiosyncratic dynamic capabilities perform universal knowledge functions that can be mapped, contributing to the planning of a specific innovation. Originality/value: While the dynamic capabilities research has been seen as one of the most vibrant topics in strategic management, scholars have recently stressed that dynamic capabilities continue to be underrated because the knowledge mechanisms that lead to effective innovations have not been adequately explored. The visual mapping is then applied to solve the reviewed theoretical problems, being also suggested to firms interested in change and adapting their capabilities to the requirements of the business environment. Purpose: This paper aims to examine the relationship between organizational learning (OL) and technology through the lens of strategic factors and to ascertain future research directions. Design/methodology/approach: The systematic literature review method was applied in three stages to the 76 articles obtained from Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar and EBSCO databases. Findings: This research revealed the evolution of the role of OL in innovation, performance, knowledge management and technological adoption and showcases a detailed conceptual model relating technology outcomes (technological innovation and capabilities) to OL outcomes (technology absorptive capacity, technological proactivity, as well as information technology [IT] and organization process alignment). Research limitations/implications: This review includes articles mainly in English and excludes conference proceedings. Practical implications: This research attempts to guide managers and policymakers to foster an organizational culture conducive to technological adoption and OL. It helps organizations develop strategies for new product development, including strategic alliances and strategic leadership. Originality/value: This review formalizes the linkages between technological absorptive capacity, technological proactivity and IT with technological innovation and capabilities. Purpose: This study aims to explore how knowledge management (KM) influences the intellectual capital (IC) of organizations operating in health care and how IC and knowledge-sharing (KS) can contribute to the achievement of sustainable development in health systems. Notably, this study focuses on telemedicine, investigating how relational capital contributes to KS in the context of remote care services. Design/methodology/approach: To comply with the paper's aim, the authors use a qualitative research method based on a polar case study suitable for IC in health-care studies. More precisely, this study analyzes a nonprofit organization that, for over 15 years, has offered a free multispecialist teleconsultation service to answer medical questions from the most disadvantaged places in the world. Findings: The findings show that the KM significantly contributes to the IC of organizations. Indeed, it improves the data management and transmission system, it increases performance flexibility in times of resource scarcity without compromising business objectives and it can attract new human resources even when not motivated by selfish goals (volunteer physicians). Research limitations/implications: This research contributes to studies on IC in health care by focusing on the contribution of telemedicine to the creation of IC. In particular, this work emphasizes the ability of telemedicine to develop and share knowledge in disadvantaged areas of the world. Moreover, in the current context, still strongly permeated by the health emergency generated by the pandemic and recently by the war in Eastern Europe, the importance of such assistance and diagnosis grows. Practical implications: The conclusions the research findings lead may guide policymakers toward a policy supporting telemedicine. It would alleviate general health-care costs and completely revolutionize light health care's role. Moreover, reducing socioeconomic distances, improving access to care and applying innovative technologies for sharing outcomes foster balanced socioeconomic development and knowledge dissemination. Originality/value: This research has shown how telemedicine represents a new successful business model even in times of crisis. The organizational model makes it possible to offer cutting-edge specialized care, contain costs, easily reach disadvantaged areas of the planet, strengthen the skills and autonomy of the most backward countries through a process of KS and push the structures operating there to interact with those in advanced countries. TQM consolidates the motivation and creativity of its employees through its organization and thus generates great potential for improvement. Absorptive capacity (ACAP) is one of the most active themes in knowledge management literature. The topic is extensively mentioned in several relevant research fields, including innovation, organisational learning and strategic management. In this study, we employed bibliographic coupling to analyse the extant academic literature published in order to detect research fronts on the theme. Our sample includes 2,072 papers published in the last four years, which is in line with our basic intent to investigate the latest academic research. Papers included in the core research front highlight the role of ACAP as an organisational ability to assess new valuable knowledge, aiding the development of organisational capabilities. The role of knowledge absorption capacity in alliance networks, open innovation processes, intra-organisational learning, as well as exploratory and exploitative initiatives are the other relevant research fronts identified.
