This naturalistic study, utilizing data from the Netherlands Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Association (NOCDA) cohort, investigated the long-term remission rates and predictors of different trajectories of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) within a clinical population. A sample of 213 participants was classified into three illness trajectories: "Chronic," "Episodic, "and "Remitted-OCD." Long-term remission rates were calculated based on three follow-up measurements over a 6-year period. A multinomial logistic regression model, incorporating five selected predictors with high explanatory power and one covariate, was employed to analyze OCD trajectory outcomes. The long-term full remission rates, calculated from all the measurements combined (14%), were significantly lower than what was observed in earlier studies and when compared to assessments at each individual follow-up (∼30%). Moreover, high baseline symptom severity and early age of onset were identified as significant risk factors for a chronic course of OCD, while male sex and younger age predicted a more favorable trajectory. Notably, the likelihood of an episodic course remained high even without identified risk factors. The bi-annual data collection process is unable to capture participants' clinical conditions between assessments. Consequently, employing multiple assessment points in longitudinal studies is necessary for valid estimation of long-term full remission rates. Background: Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) has, in the space of 50 years, evolved into the dominant modality in psychological therapy. Mechanism/s of change remain unclear, however. Aims: In this paper, we will describe key features of CBT that account for the pace of past and future developments, with a view to identifying candidates for mechanism of change. We also highlight the distinction between 'common elements' and 'mechanisms of change' in psychological treatment. Method: The history of how behaviour therapy and cognitive therapy developed are considered, culminating in the wide range of strategies which now fall under the heading of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). We consider how the empirical grounding of CBT has led to the massive proliferation of effective treatment strategies. We then consider the relationship between 'common factors' and 'mechanisms of change', and propose that a particular type of psychological flexibility is the mechanism of change not only in CBT but also effective psychological therapies in general. Conclusion: Good psychological therapies should ultimately involve supporting people experiencing psychological difficulties to understand where and how they have become 'stuck' in terms of factors involved in maintaining distress and impairment. Objectives: Despite the increasing consensus that moral injury (MI) is a unique type of psychological stressor, there is an ongoing debate about best practices for psychological care. This qualitative study explored the perceptions of UK and US professionals in the field of MI investigating advances and challenges in treatment or support delivery and issues relating to treatment/support feasibility and acceptability. Methods: 15 professionals were recruited. Semi‐structured, telephone/online interviews were carried out, and transcripts were analyzed using thematic analysis. Results: Two interconnected themes emerged: perceived barriers to appropriate care for MI cases and recommendations for providing effective care to MI patients. Professionals highlighted the challenges that occur due to the lack of empirical experience with MI, the negligence of patients' unique individual needs and the inflexibility in existing manualised treatments. Conclusions: These findings illustrate the need to evaluate the effectiveness of current approaches and explore alternative pathways, which will effectively support MI patients in the long‐term. Key recommendations include the use of therapeutic techniques which lead to a personalised and flexible support plan to meet patients' needs, increase self‐compassion and encourage patients to reconnect with their social networks. The aim of this meta-analysis was to compare psychodynamic with other treatments in studies of substance addiction. The literature search was conducted using the PubMed, Web of Science, Cohcrane library, SCOPUS, and Onesearch databases. All studies comparing psychodynamic therapy with other types of psychological interventions for Substance Use Disorder were eligible. Three outcomes were considered to compare intervention performance: substance use, participation in treatment and other symptomatic conditions (OSCs). Hedges' G was used to measure effect size. The Revised Cochrane Risk of Bias tool for randomized trials was used to assess quality of evidence and possible bias, Egger regression analyses for publication bias, and Q and I-square statistics were used to assess heterogeneity. The alcohol group showed no differences between treatments on the three outcomes. The cocaine group showed no significant differences in the two outcomes, while for OSCs, available data was insufficient. The opioids group showed small but significant differences regarding participation in favor of non-psychodynamic interventions and no significant results for other outcomes. Based on the three measures of recovery considered in this meta-analysis, psychodynamic interventions were shown to be as effective as other psychological treatments in treating substance dependence and proved to be an empirically-supported treatment for the above addictions. This study aimed to explore the types of psychological abuse and their relationship with internalising and externalising behaviours among Chinese junior middle school students (n = 619; male = 49.1%, female = 50.9%; mean age = 13.5 years, SD = 1.152 years). Latent profile analysis revealed four psychological abuse profiles: low, medium-low, medium-high, and high. Those students with high psychological abuse profiles also reported high internalising and externalising behaviours compared to those with lower psychological abuse profiles. Multinomial logistic regression analysis indicated that gender and school grade differences had a significant impact on psychological abuse profiles. This finding suggested that boys were more likely to have a high psychological abuse profile than girls, and students in Grade 8 were more likely to have a high psychological abuse profile than students in Grade 9. Our findings underscore the importance of designing and implementing psychological abuse treatment interventions by profiles of the children for higher efficacy in reducing the risk of internalising and externalising behaviours. Purpose: Glaucoma has been increasing recognised to cause significant mental health burden to patients while psychological factors also play important roles in the development and progression of glaucoma. This review presents the current evidence of the impact of psychological interventions in glaucoma patients to improve their holistic care in terms of both physical and mental health by modulating psychological symptoms and supporting glaucoma control. Methods: A literature search was conducted on PubMed for relevant studies up to February 2022. Types of psychological interventions include meditation, autogenic relaxation, music, hypnosis, motivational interviewing, psychological nursing and bright light exposure. Outcomes investigated were ocular parameters including intraocular pressure, mental health, patient motivation and satisfaction, and overall quality of life. Results: Seventeen studies investigating the effects of psychological interventions on improving the care of glaucoma patients were reviewed. Daily meditation for 30 to 60 min has been shown to be effective in improving glaucoma control in terms of reducing intraocular pressure by 1.5 to 6.1 mmHg and improving ocular perfusion and quality of life. The impacts of music, autogenic training and psychological nursing on glaucoma control, vision outcomes and psychological symptoms are also promising while bright light exposure has shown some effects on sleeping quality. However, there is insufficient basis to support the adoption of motivational interviewing or hypnosis in glaucoma patients yet. Conclusion: Psychological interventions, especially meditation, can play a bigger role in the holistic care of glaucoma patients by controlling disease progression as an adjunct to conventional approaches and alleviating the mental health burden caused by the disease through stress reduction and emotional regulation. They empower patients to gain greater control of their disease and provides additional advantages of low cost, non-invasiveness and minimal side effects. Future research should involve well-conducted randomised trials with larger sample sizes and longer duration of intervention and follow-up to establish the long-term benefits for glaucoma patients. For most individuals, changes occurring during the aging process may cause dissatisfaction and concerns regarding body image, with implications on quality of life (QoL). The aim of this study was to assess the contribution of sociodemographic and psychological variables and the type of anti‐aging products/treatments on men's QoL, as well as to evaluate the moderating role of aging perceptions in the relationship between psychological morbidity and QoL. This study used a cross‐sectional design and included a sample of 111 male participants who used anti‐aging cosmetic products/aesthetic treatments. Participants were assessed on body image, self‐esteem, psychological morbidity, aging perceptions, traits of perfectionism, and QoL. Results suggested that psychological morbidity and perceptions of the aging process as chronic negatively contributed to QoL, and emotional representations of aging moderated the relationship between psychological morbidity and QoL. According to the findings, psychological intervention programs to improve QoL should focus on men with higher levels of psychological morbidity and more negative emotional responses to the aging process. Introduction: Whilst a good deal of research has been conducted on predictors of attitudes to seeking counselling and/or psychotherapy, no such work has been conducted in relation to coaching. Type D personality, public stigma and self-stigma are potential significant predictors of such attitudes, with Type D possibly having an indirect effect mediated by stigma. Type D personality may also be linked to increased burnout, in which case those with this personality type might benefit more from coaching support. Aims: This study aimed to (a) assess the relationships between attitudes to seeking coaching and each of Type D personality, public stigma and self-stigma; (b) examine the possibility of Type D personality having a relationship with attitudes to coaching which is mediated by stigma; and (c) address the relationship of Type D personality to burnout, in a sample of working people. Method: A cross-sectional, online survey was employed. Results: Type D personality, self-stigma and public stigma were all significantly negatively correlated with attitudes to seeking coaching. The relationship of Type D personality to such attitudes was fully mediated by public stigma, but not by self-stigma. Type D personality was significantly associated with all dimensions of burnout. Implications: People with higher Type D personality scores are more likely to experience burnout, and so may stand to benefit more from coaching. They are also more likely to have poorer attitudes to seeking coaching - a relationship mediated by public stigma. Public and self-stigma are also related to poorer attitudes. Psychological resilience enables the person to come out of this situation in a strong way without being harmed after traumatic events. In our study, the relationship between experiencing childhood traumas, types of forgiveness and psychological resilience was examined. In addition, it was also investigated how childhood traumatic experiences and types of forgiveness (forgiving oneself, forgiving the situation, forgiving others) predict psychological resilience. In this study, which was conducted with the relational screening model, the relationships between the dependent variable "Psychological Resilience" and the independent variables "Childhood Traumas" and "Forgiveness" were examined by multiple linear regression analysis Enter method. Data were collected from a total of 366 participants, 236 of whom were women (64.5%) and 130 (35.5%) were men, living in the province of Istanbul. The Personal Information Form, Childhood Trauma Scale [CTS], Adult Resilience Scale [PDS] and Heartland Forgiveness Scale [HAS] were applied to the individuals in the sample. In the study, the relationships between the variables mentioned first were examined, the relationship was determined, and according to the results of the multiple linear regression analysis, it was determined that childhood traumas, self-forgiveness and forgiveness of the situation predicted psychological resilience, while forgiveness of others had no predictive effect. In the study, it was concluded that childhood trauma experiences negatively predicted psychological resilience, while self-forgiveness and forgiving the situation variables predicted it positively. It is thought that it is very important to study self-forgiveness, especially when working with childhood traumas in psychological trauma-based interventions and psychotherapy processes. The last decades experienced a rapid growth in the number of studies examining the effects of psychological interventions on well-being, yet well-being is often conceptualized and measured in different ways in these studies. Previous meta-analyses included studies with a plethora of different well-being instruments, which provides an ambiguous picture of the effectiveness. Furthermore, prior meta-analyses mainly included specific types of psychological interventions. The goal of the current study was to synthesize the effectiveness of psychological interventions in improving well-being as measured with one consistent and comprehensive well-being instrument, the Mental Health Continuum (MHC). The literature was searched for RCTs examining the effect of psychological interventions in both clinical and non-clinical populations that used the MHC as outcome. 46 RCTs (N = 7,618) and 64 comparisons were analyzed using 3-level meta-analysis models. When compared with non-active control groups, small significant effects were found for total well-being at posttest (β = 0.25), and for the subscales emotional (β = 0.27), social (β = 0.25), and psychological well-being (β = 0.30). Effects were smaller but still significant at follow-up. Subgroup analyses yielded significantly stronger effects for guided compared with non-guided interventions and for studies with good quality. Effects were similar for clinical and non-clinical populations and specific types of interventions. Mindfulness and ACT interventions significantly improved well-being. These findings suggest that psychological interventions can improve well-being, and that different interventions have the potential to improve well-being. This study focuses on the literature that problematizes the reasons/experiences of watching horror movies, and presents a systematic analysis of the existing literature. The study used the data obtained by scanning the word 'horror films' in the Google Scholar and PsycInfo databases. Two inclusion criteria were determined when accessing the data: First, the study's title included horror movies. Second, the study was published in English in peer-reviewed journals. Studies measuring exposure to non-horror film genres were excluded from the research. A total of 42 studies were included in the analysis based on the existing criteria. The research questions sought to be answered in the study were developed as follows: Why do we like watching horror movies? Why is fear attractive? Is there a relationship between preference and enjoyment of horror movies and personality types, gender differences, and other individual differences? How do we develop our sense of fear while watching a horror movie? How do we deal with this emerging emotion? What are the psychological and emotional consequences of watching horror movies? Is it possible to talk about a relationship between being exposed to horror movies and being extremely curious? The answers were made visible over 9 categories: Controlling chaos, self-esteem and surprising solutions, sexuality, and punishment, attitudes that need emotion, tendency to daydream, exposure strategy, choice of ending type, spoiler effect, gender variable, and permanent damage at the end of the movie. From a general point of view, empirical studies on the psychology of watching horror movies show that this is possible not only with psychology, psychotherapy, communication studies, developmental studies, clinical psychology, and media studies but also with the eclectic bond established between disciplines. Issues and information on mental health problems are frequently discussed through media channels. However, public awareness on mental health problems is still low. In addition, individuals with a mental health problem refuses to receive treatment. To overcome these problems, professional public health agencies around the world have designed digital mental health therapy. Digital mental health therapy has given a focus to the delivery of psychological and physical health rehabilitation treatments. Although digital mental health therapy has been shown to be effective in improving mental health conditions, however the appropriate type of digital platform used to provide the therapy for a particular type of mental health problem has yet to be studied. Therefore, this article focuses on the types of digital platforms used in therapy of mental health problems and its effectiveness on various aspects of health as well as rehabilitation. In this regard, content analysis of previous studies related to the type of digital platform and its effectiveness are done. The results of the content analysis showed that SMS the most widely used platform to deliver mental health problem therapy followed by smartphone applications, websites and online chat. Overall, the findings from the results of previous studies show positive changes in emotions, thoughts and behaviours. This suggests that mobile therapy for mental health has great potential to be implemented for individuals who have constraints to access in-person therapy or during critical times such as COVID19 pandemic situations which limiting population movement. Purpose: Caring for children with cancer is considerably stressful for parents and may negatively affect their physical and psychological well-being. Resilience plays a pivotal role in maintaining psychological well-being in the face of stress and adversity. The aim of this systematic review was to evaluate the effectiveness of psychological interventions in promoting resilience among parents of children with cancer. Methods: Five English databases and two Chinese databases were subjected to a systematic search from inception to March 2020. The methodological quality of the included randomised controlled trials was evaluated using the Cochrane risk of bias tool (RoB 2.0). Meta-analyses and descriptive analyses were used. Subgroup analyses of the intervention modes and time since diagnosis were also conducted. Results: Five studies involving 308 participants were included. The systematic review identified three types of psychological intervention, namely resilience training, self-disclosure and peer support, which had different essential components and characteristics. The meta-analyses of three randomised controlled trials revealed that the psychological interventions enhanced parents' resilience with a large effect size (Hedges' adjusted g 0.92; 95% CI 0.22, 1.62; p =.01). Conclusion: Evidence supports the effectiveness of psychological interventions for enhancing resilience in the parents of children with cancer. Healthcare professionals can incorporate evidence-based psychological interventions to enhance resilience to help these parents better navigate adversity, adapt to their children's situations and improve their psychological well-being. Functional Analytical Psychotherapy (FAP) is a third generation and contextual therapy. It is based on therapeutic interaction, verbal and emotional client-therapist relationships. It also uses functional analysis of behaviour, and live on-going modification of clinical problem behaviours. The aim of this research was to study the efficacy of FAP with different types of psychological problems (anxiety, depression, obsession, sexual, personality, emotional control). An intra-group design (10 participants, 36 years old average) was used with pre-post and follow-up measurements. Different questionnaires have been used as common assessment tools for all clinical cases. The results showed a statistically significant change in all the standardised questionnaires, with a considerable size effect (d from -2.01 to -3.80) and maintained one year later. Also, as clinical change, the participants had improved in their daily lives. We conclude on the efficacy of FAP, focusing on the therapeutic relationship, regardless of diagnostic categories. Background: Perinatal depression is a high prevalent mental health problem with serious consequences. Evidence about effective psychological interventions in treating perinatal depression has been increasing, but it lacks a comprehensive synthesis of findings.Methods: A systematic review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses concerning the effectiveness of psychological interventions in treating perinatal depression (depression during pregnancy and the first 12 months postpartum) in adult women was conducted. The electronic databases MEDLINE (PubMed), PsycINFO, The Cochrane Library, Web of Science and Prospero were searched, on May 2020, using a combination of keywords. Data were independently extracted by two authors and a synthesis of the results was presented. Methodological quality was independently assessed by two authors, using AMSTAR-2.Results: Seven systematic reviews were included and reported, overall, the effectiveness of psychological interventions in decreasing depressive symptoms in women in the perinatal period, both short and long-term. CBT was found to be the most effective intervention, regardless of the treatment format.Limitations: Grey literature was not searched, and some studies may overlap among the included systematic reviews. These (the included reviews) were rated with low methodological quality, which weakens the evidence of the reported results.Conclusions: CBT is currently the most evidence-based psychological intervention, provided in different delivery formats (individual, group, face-to-face or Internet-based). Cortisol in hair is a new biomarker assessing long-term hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis activity, which is related to emotion regulation. We compare hair cortisol concentrations (HCC), in clinically referred children with disruptive mood dysregulation disorder (DMDD) (n = 19), children with other types of psychological disorders (n = 48), and healthy subjects (n = 36). We also investigate the association between HCC and irritability, age, and sex. Our results show that children with DMDD or other types of psychological disorders have higher HCC than healthy subjects, p <.001, η p 2 =.39. No difference between children with DMDD and those with other types of psychological disorders was found, p =.91, nor an association between HCC and irritability in the clinical sample, p =.32. We found a significant negative correlation between HCC and age in those with DMDD, r = −0.54, p <.05, but not in the normative sample, r = −0.20, p =.25. No diffe r ences in HCC between girls and boys were found in the normative sample, p =.49. Children in need of psychological treatment, including those with DMDD, seem to have dysregulated HPA-axis activity over time. Trauma survivors are at a high risk of developing mental health problems. Hence, mental help in the form of emergency psychology has to be availed in the aftermath of a traumatizing event. When studied in-depth, emergency psychology comprises protocols, strategies, and techniques that establish it as an interventional activity. The main of this review is to analyze how emergency psychology services are provided to people, to verify to what extent these interventions are homogeneous in the delivery methods and consequently, facilitate the creation of relevant measures. Consequently, the general view of emergency psychology is reviewed and analyzed to identify the protocols, guidelines, and strategies used. A search was done on the ScienceDirect, APA PsycINFO, Emerald, and Scopus databases for articles published from 1st January 2017 to 1st April 2022. The reference lists of the identified studies were also screened. After the non-duplicate articles were removed and after filtering the articles according to inclusion criteria, 20 articles were included for the thematic analysis: nine research articles, 10 case study reports, and one randomized controlled trial (RCT). During the analysis, different aspects of emergency psychology were categorized: Responders, Crisis Management and Structure, and types of psychological interventions. This categorization led to the identification of protocols, guidelines, and strategies that can be placed in a sequence to give a general direction of how an emergency psychology intervention is supposed to be carried out. • Group-based Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) is not efficacious for reducing prolonged grief symptoms (PGS) in adults. • CFT may not adequately target core maintaining processes in pathological grief. • CFT delivered in groups may be a less than optimal delivery format and eight sessions may be too few to facilitate positive change. • Given the design of the present study, the efficacy of individual CFT components remains unclear. Prolonged grief disorder is a debilitating condition, which affects approximately one out of ten who lose a loved one. While existing meta-analyses have synthesized evidence regarding the overall effect of psychological interventions for pathological grief across different types of psychotherapy, it remains clinically relevant to explore whether specific types of psychological interventions are efficacious in the treatment of grief. The present study investigated the efficacy of group-based Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) for adults who had lost a spouse or a parent, and who reported clinically relevant levels of prolonged grief symptoms (PGS) at 11 months post-loss. A total of 82 participants were randomized to the CFT group (n = 42) or the waitlist control (n = 40). Time × group interactions showed no statistically significant effects of the intervention on the primary outcome PGS at post-intervention or 6-month follow-up. Likewise, no statistically significant effects were found for any of the secondary outcomes or process variables, with the exception of posttraumatic stress symptoms and self-reassurance. Taken together, in the present study group-based CFT did not emerge as an efficacious treatment for PGS. Possible explanations include that CFT may not target core maintaining processes in PGS and that the group-based, 8-week operationalization of CFT may be less than optimal. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study aimed to investigate the psychological type profile of person-centered counselors. The psychological type of 85 counselors (63 women, 22 men) was measured with the Francis Psychological Type Scales (FPTS). Results indicate that the FPTS can reliably measure psychological type among counselors, and the most common psychological type was introvert, intuitive, feeling, and judging (INFJ). Typology of Verbal Interventions in Psychotherapy« is presented in the article. The Typology was created on the basis of existing classification systems and the author's own research work. It consists of ten categories of verbal interventions that can be encountered in practically all psychotherapeutic modes of work. In this sense the Typology of Verbal Interventions is universally utilizable. The author used the Typology for an analysis of Carl Rogers' session with Gloria. Researchers in the field of domestic violence have derived “typologies” to better conceptualize the differences found among batterers (e.g., Holtzworth-Monroe and Stuart [1994]. Psychol. Bull. 116: 476–497). Efforts have since been made to evaluate clinicians' accuracy in classifying batterers into subtypes (Langhinrichsen-Rohling, Huss, and Ramsey [2000]. J. Fam. Violence 15: 37–53). The present study investigated the accuracy and consistency with which experienced clinicians could sort profiles into an empirically derived MCMI-based batterer typology (Hamberger, Lohr, Bonge, and Tolin [1996] Violence Vict. 11: 277–292). Seven PhD level psychologists with experience in the field of domestic violence were asked to sort 36 MCMI profiles into three piles. Each pile was represented by each of the three prototypical cluster types described in Hamberger et al. (1996) using the Basic 8 MCMI subscales. Overall, expert raters were able to sort most profiles into the three clusters accurately. However, the expert raters had the most difficulty correctly sorting some of the “nonpathological” profiles, as 40% were placed into the antisocial cluster and (6%) were sorted into the negativistic-dependent cluster. There are a number of possible explanations for the lower accuracy in sorting the nonpathological cluster. Results suggest that psychologists with domestic violence training can accurately sort MCMI profiles of batterers into the main three subtypes derived from empirically-based typology research. We describe a typology of regulatory deficits associated with anger in combat-related posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Cognitive, arousal, and behavioral domain deficits in anger regulation were observed clinically in PTSD patients with high levels of anger who were participating in a multi-year trial of a structured anger treatment. We also describe a category of patients whose anger type we have termed "ball of rage." These patients exhibit regulatory deficits in all three domains of anger regulation. We offer a conceptual framework to advance the understanding of anger associated with PTSD and to guide its effective treatment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The article discusses the theory of psychological types which is one of the most important areas of analytical psychology. Psychologist Carl Gustav Jung's publication of "Psychological Types" in 1921 deserves to be heralded as the true beginnings of ego psychology. It is this article's main intention to examine the theory of psychological types from a dynamic process point of view and propose specifically that it is the interpretative instrument par excellence in the analysis of the transference. Further, the author hopes to show how the natural evolution of the above process relates to individuation thus attempting to demonstrate clinically what Jung may have had in mind when he entitled his original book "Psychological Types or the Psychology of Individuation."

The article presents a study, which is the analysis of the MMPI results, obtained by means of differing methods of grouping for interpretation. These groupings are compared with each other and with current literature on typologies of MMPI results in such patients. The particular methods and findings described here are held to have potential generalizability to some pain clinics in which the MMPI is used for psychodiagnosis. Given the developments described above, it appears that the MMPI has promise as an instrument that will allow more precise psychological definition of chronic pain patients.

This article discusses psychological types and changes with age. A considerable quantity of observations concerning retests, self and supplementary-estimates, psychiatric estimates, discrepancies; discrimination of the given estimate as relating to true inborn type or admired type or imagined type or overt type; ambivalence and overlying factors like emotions, all part and parcel of so-called clinical experience, have been discussed in a separate paper. One thousand subjects in age groups from 10 to 80 with equal incidence of each sex have been tabulated in various relations and reported in other papers. The persons observed were unselected, the questionnaire being offered wherever opportunity was found.
