The article presents a speech given by Bogdan Aurescu, University of Bucharest Law School professor and co-chair of the Study Group on Sea-Level Rise in Relation to International Law, during the 73rd session of the International Law Commission meeting in Geneva, Switzerland in July 2022. Topics include Aurescu's appreciation of his colleague Claudio Grossman for his initiative to put together the conference and the reason for the introduction of sea-level rise to the agenda of the Commission.

Sorin Stati was a prestigious Romanian scientist whose 54-year of scientific activity included 220 papers and 130 lectures. Born in Romania, he studied at the University of Bucharest and worked from the beginning as a member of large research teams within the Romanian Academy. Single and collaborative works written up until 1972 and published in the country were exceptional, decisively changing the movement of Romanian linguistic ideas. After 1972, when he emigrated to Italy, the distinguished professor held a second doctorate and a chair at the University of Bologna. From then until his death, through his works and throughout his activity, he opened new theoretical perspectives both in the study of syntax and pragmatics, dialogue, in the analysis of the 'transfrastic' relationships, lexicology and semantics. His ability to influence these fields lies in the volumes that the international academic community offered at the age of 65, but also in the number of articles and homage volumes dedicated to Sorin Stati after 2008, the year of his death. The publication of his works continued ten years after his death. I personally owe him a large part of my linguistic thinking, being decisively influenced by his wonderful and fertile ideas during the period when I was preparing my PhD thesis. The bibliography of Sorin Stati's works, as seen above, was made up of two incomplete editions, without being unified so far with his other works. That is what we intended in this article. In addition to the previous bibliographies, we record here the understandings, respectively the reviews of his works, but also the homage articles and volumes without which, we think, a bibliography of any scientist remains incomplete. This paper (part of the dissertation with the same title, defended at the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Letters, Department of Cultural Studies, June 2022) will be dedicated to the pivotal theories of civil violence, in order to question its applicability in the context of contemporary Western societies, focusing on protest as a form of manifestation. Thus, we will use rationalist theories, which point to the rational decision of subjects to take part in collective movements, respectively to the possibility of monitoring their evolution through a mathematical calculation. We will continue with the irrationalist perspective of social contamination, whose development in the 20th century attributes a positive, socially progressive significance to collective movements. Subsequently, the possibility of a political consciousness as the driving force behind social movements will be questioned. In this regard, the views of Hannah Arendt and Charles Tilly are to be considered, which will be challenged through the Marxist perspective on the role of ideology in social movements, whose relevance today will be analysed through the Black Lives Matter movement. The motivation behind the Black Lives Matter protests is explained by the individualistic desire to belong to the community created (of which the subjects are unaware), which is in contrast to the stated aims of the movement, that reclaim a change in the lives of African-American people. During the COVID19 pandemics, teaching/learning/testing have undergone lots of changes made for the transition to online classes. Teaching English for Specific Purposes (ESP) online witnessed a paradigm shift and new approaches that were all facilitated by the use of technology have been developed or improved. Pre-pandemics, Bill Cope and Mary Kalantzis proposed “reflexive pedagogy” based on the idea that it is not the technology used that matters but the pedagogy itself which makes the difference, so they proposed reflexive pedagogy as opposed to didactic pedagogy which is composed of 7 affordances ranging from ubiquitous learning to differentiated learning with the purpose of moving focus from mimetic learning to epistemic learning via reflection and use of technology. Having this new approach in mind, the present paper attempts to analyse the advantages and disadvantages when teaching English for Specific Purposes. While the advantages are numerous due the possibility to use technology anytime, anywhere, anyhow, there are still certain constraints regarding learning foreign languages which utilize the mimetic approach in certain circumstance. Thus, the study focuses on the activities developed with the students from the University of Bucharest enrolled in the Faculty of Chemistry, approaching a wide range of subjects with a review of reflexive pedagogy in terms of advantages and disadvantages for ESP. While reflexive pedagogy is extensively useful for listening, speaking, reading and learning specialized vocabulary, writing seems to be affected as a way of progressing in learning. From 1938, after the retirement of Professor Simion Mândrescu, who had laid the foundations of German philology at the University of Bucharest, the Department of German Language and Literature had a difficult path. Challenging and often precarious historical conditions created unclear legislation, making it difficult to hire competent Germanists eager to integrate into higher education. The present paper traces the decade-long, continuous efforts to attract competent teaching staff to meet the teaching and research needs of German philology. Archival documents reveal known or less known names of Bucharest Germanists. It is interesting to note that over the years, there have been attempts - often unsuccessful - to bring in Germanists from other university institutions in Bucharest, Between 1942 and 1944, we also find university staff from Germany at the Department of German Language and Literature in Bucharest. Although the political situation was not favourable during the decade under review, German philology in Bucharest managed to maintain an adequate level of performance, oscillating between adapting to political requirements and ensuring the best possible training of students. This paper discusses the content of the cadre file of Henri H. Stahl preserved in the Archives of the University of Bucharest’s Rectorate. In the form in which it has been preserved after 1989, the personnel file of H.H. Stahl seems, from several points of view, atypical. If we compare it with the cadre files of the 1950s, it surprises by the apparent “goodwill” of the communist cadres towards H.H. Stahl. This ideological solicitude is manifested in the interpretation given to main cultural and political events in H.H. Stahl’s life. In other circumstances such political past could be labeled as unusable in a communist context. Equally curious and noteworthy is the issue of the ethnic origin attributed (and not necessarily real or assumed by the one described in the file), more precisely the issue of Stahl’s nationality ( Jewish) which was recorded in the file. Analyzing Stahl cadre file we can wonder if the integrity of this dossier has not been compromised by removing, extracting or modifying documents by the personel staff services or by someone else. The paper aims to outline the intellectual and human biography of Marco Cugno (1939-2011), one of the most distinguished Italian scholars of Romanian literature of the second half of the 20th century. The author sketches out the historical and cultural context of Cugno's encounter with Romanian language and literature during his tenure as a Reader in Italian Language and Literature at the University of Bucharest (1965-1969) and his subsequent transition from Italian to Romanian Studies. The development of Cugno's career as a scholar of Romanian literature is followed from his first publications in the field upon his returning to Italy up to his latest publications, through his long and fruitful years as a university professor of Romanian Language and Literature at the University of Turin. This paper presents the newly introduced rose cultivars in the Rosarium from the Botanic Garden "Dimitrie Brandza" of the University of Bucharest. One of the objectives in Botanic Gardens is to bring new species or cultivars to expand the collections. In that matter the roses represent one of the biggest collections from our institution so is very important to help it grow and also one of the main attractions when is the blooming season. The paper aims at presenting the methodological options made by academic staff members teaching Romanian as a Foreign Language at "The Preparatory Year of Romanian Language for Foreign Citizens" (APLR) organized by the Faculty of International Business and Economics from the Bucharest University of Economic Studies. We highlight the ways in which Business Romanian classes contribute to the development of foreign students' language and cultural competences by means of various activities designed to facilitate their insertion on the Romanian educational market. The paper also presents the opinions of foreign students taking these classes, as obtained by means of a feedback questionnaire on Business Romanian classes distributed among APLR students from the Faculty of International Business and Economics who study Romanian as a Foreign Language (with emphasis on business terminology). The article offers information on several significant scientific events for the year 2009 including the election of the of Chemical Sciences new members of General Assembly of Romanian Academy including professors and Eugen Segal and professor Dumitru Oancea. on April 30, 2009. On May 15, 2009 at the Faculty of Chemistry from Bucharest University organized the third edition of Symposium Chemistry-Friend or Enemy. On May 22, 2009, the Vth Scientific Students Communications Session was held in the Hall I.G. Murgulescu of the Faculty of Chemistry. While between June 2-7 2009 the 33rd Congress of the American Romanian Academy for Arts and Sciences (ARA) was held at University Alma Mater (UAM) in Sibiu, Romania.

Our paper presents the contradictory views journalism graduates from the Faculty of Journalism and Communication Sciences, University of Bucharest and their future employers from local and national Romanian media organizations have on profession, knowledge and skills. The study shows that at the end of their three-year formal training the students do not fully understand and internalize the journalistic professional values. They reiterate an academically induced picture of the profession, which has not been revised for years. However, the contextual analysis of the research results indicates that professionally committed students, that benefited from internships and trainings in media organizations, came up with more relevant answers, integrating more easily their knowledge of curriculum with their practical experience, as opposed to their peers without work experience, that are undecided about their professional path. Academic education does seem to help professionally committed students to adapt more easily to the fast-changing work environment and makes them look competent. Moreover, our findings highlight a lack of dialogue between the journalism schools and the media organizations, showing a steep gap between the students' expectations and the requirements managers and editors have from a potential job applicant. The scientific collaboration between the French and Romanian geographers has had a long and rich history of over 120 years. Over time, it has gone through more or less favorable periods, depending on the political and historical context. This paper focuses on the post-1989 era, and highlights the academic relationships between the Faculty of Geography of the University of Bucharest and universities / research centers in France, with special regard to the fields of climatology, hydrology and geomorphology. Particular attention is paid to the memory of professor Gérard Beltrando, one of the French geographers (climatologist) strongly attached to Romania and to Romanians, and who, for more than 15 years, nurtured fruitful collaborations with geographers from the University of Bucharest. The paper includes prompt γ -ray results provided by two deterministic modelings of prompt emission developed at the University of Bucharest. The very good description of experimental prompt γ -ray data as a function of A and TKE by the multi-parametric matrices as primary results of both modelings assures a supplementary validation of the models themselves. The very good agreement of the single distributions of different prompt γ -ray quantities (as a function of A and as a function of TKE) with the experimental data constitutes a supplementary validation of the models together with the fragment distributions used. Linear correlations between different prompt γ -ray quantities and the prompt neutron multiplicity are emphasized, too. A new method to calculate the prompt γ -ray spectrum consisting of a global treatment based on the distribution of prompt γ -ray energy per quanta is proposed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

During the last years, online marketing, especially social media marketing, has received increased attention in marketing for higher education. In this paper, we aim at gaining insight into the largest Romanian University’s online communication strategy during the 2019 admission campaign - University of Bucharest. Although there is a growing body of literature on online marketing campaigns in Western democracies, little research exists on using Social Media in an emergent economy like Romania. In order to take a closer look at the University’s online communication strategy, we conducted a content analysis on the posts published on the University’s Facebook page over the 4 weeks leading up to and during admission period. In a world of diversity, that is changing permanently, universities have to adapt to the needs of their beneficiaries and to provide a multitude of high quality services. The paper presents the need of providing counseling for students, teachers, and employers too so that the educational supply of the university to meet the employers' and labor market 's needs and graduates to be able to integrate and develop themselves socially and professionally in an adequate manner, and students do not give up to their studies. The problem of youth migration for education in Moldova existed during and after the Soviet period. Since 1991, many young Bessarabians decided to study in Romania for various reasons [1]. The present paper reveals the results of a survey on Moldovan students from three universities in Bucharest: Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies, University "Politehnica" of Bucharest, and the University of Bucharest. 65.1% of the students surveyed were influenced in their decision to study in Bucharest by the prestige of Romanian university centers, 86.55% believe that getting a bachelor's degree in Romania helps them to find a job easier in an EU country; 50% of students are interested in attending Master courses in Romania while 29% of them want to continue working in Romania, 50% - in another country (preferably in an EU country) and only 21% intend to return to Moldova. This paper presents the design and implementation of three different didactic platforms, which are based on the SCADA systems principles and architecture. Principles from real industrial applications were put together in these modules in order to familiarize students with the domain and give them useful practical abilities. In this way, after they graduate, they will be able to faster integrate in the working field and meet more requirements an engineer should fulfill. The paper focuses on the issue of education for values in Higher Education. When we talk about education in and through values, we try to train ourselves to respond to the situations that we live at every minute in our classrooms, social environments or families. It is about getting our attitudes and actions to contribute to building a more just, sustainable, equitable and supportive society. The study presents the results of a recent research conducted in the centennial year using survey based on a questionnaire addressed to students aged between 19 and 25, from various faculties of the University of Bucharest. The purpose of the study is to investigate the importance of values by trying to answer the question: Why do we need moral values and principles? identifying suggestions, recommendations on the importance of ethical leadership of life. Therefore, the preliminary results of the analysis of the research data shows that the students consider the education in the family and the school to be important for the development of moral values and principles. The present paper is pointing at the curricula novelty in the Romanian academic environment, which is the compulsory topic on Ethics and academic integrity, within both master and doctoral studies, starting with the very 2018-2019 university year. With a view to the reason of introducing the issue in the educational curriculum, may we delimit epistemically between the academic ethics and the scientific research one. The case study is meant to mark the experience of Bucharest University which boasts of an ethics infrastructure at academic standard levels; the institution introduced that curriculum in 2017-2018. FOSS4G stands for Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial. It is the flagship event of OSGeo. Each FOSS4G has its special aura, kindly designed by each Local Organising Committe, sharing the local culture and spirit with the greater community. In 2019, geo-spatial.org, the OSGeo Local Chapter of Romania, won the honour of organising the geospatial event of the year. FOSS4G 2019 was held in Bucharest (Romania), in three of the most important buildings of this city: National Theatre of Bucharest, InterContinental Hotel and Faculty of Geography from the University of Bucharest.Following the established tradition of FOSS4G conferences, at the 2019 edition, an Academic Track ran in parallel with the General Track. The main purpose of this track was to bring together researchers, teachers, developers, users and practitioners carrying out research activities in geospatial domains, with an emphasis on the open source solutions. All types of topics such as results achieved, case studies, work in progress, academic endeavours to conceptualize, assess or teach open source geospatial software and data, were welcomed. The Academic Committee discouraged prevalent presentations of technologies or use cases without properly justifying originality to the scientific state of the art, emphasizing on particular novelty.At this edition, 53 papers were submitted to the Academic Track. These were blind reviewed by 3 reviewers. Finally 38 scientific papers were selected for publication in this volume of the ISPRS Archives. Time is one of the most valuable resources. A given period of time can be occupied with interesting or boring activities that generates different perceptions on it and affects individuals differently. As consequence, individuals have developed different time management skills. While some individuals demonstrate time management skills in a 'natural' manner, other have to develop these categories of skills. This paper is verifying the established correlations between time management skills and academic achievements, on one side, and life satisfaction, on the other side, in order to see and measure their relevance for young people by analysing time management skills demonstrated by students from Bucharest University of Economic Studies enrolled in bachelor programs. We are presenting the research we have conducted on 150 students from schools of economics, business and public administration, our findings and recommendations for effective development of time management skills to students. This paper provides an overview about the expectations and assessment of students attending the internship program in Economic Informatics and Cybernetics, developed within InfoStart program, organized at the Faculty of Economic Informatics, Cybernetics and Statistics, from Bucharest University of Economic Studies, Romania. 397 students accomplished 3 weeks internship stage, in May 2015, within InfoStart program. In order to identify the expectations of the students from the target group, a sociological survey has been conducted at the beginning of InfoStart program. At the end of the internship program, developed within the project, the attending students fulfilled self-evaluation reports. So 397 completed self-evaluation reports have been achieved and used to set up the analysis. The students' responses reveal a very successful internship program in Economic Informatics and Cybernetics, in term of program quality, program utility, students' self-assessment behavior, and companies' employee behavior. The results reveal that three internship factors, namely: a pleasant working environment, good working infrastructure and proficient trainer, get students overall satisfaction of the internship stage. The article reconstructs the mechanisms through which the work of the French scholar of Romanian origin, Mattei Dogan was brought to light in Romania after 1990 thanks to the eff orts of the community of sociologists. Romanian sociologists used three methods to assimilate the author who is considered the founder of comparative political analysis and who left Romania immediately after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in sociology under Henri H. Stahl supervision: they translated Dogan’s articles and books, they made him a member of prestigious institutions and they included him in the post-communist eff ort to reclaim the legacy of the school founded by Dimitrie Gusti. To capture the institutional and editorial strategies that were used, I conducted interviews with several protagonists of the Romanian sociology renaissance movement. I also used epistolary resources, sociology and political science journals, press articles, as well as documents from the archives of the University of Bucharest and from the Mattei Dogan Foundation. The article shows the success of some methods and the failure of others. It also brings to light a text that was ignored in the studies and bibliographies that discuss the work of the scholar who was born in Roman in 1920 and who went by the name of Matei Pinsler until 1945 (Preda, 2020). This research paper is relevant for various reasons. Firstly, it complements not only the biography of Dogan, but also that of Henri H. Stahl. In recent years, there has been a considerable increase in awareness of the importance of promoting entrepreneurship to the younger generation. The paper aims to analyse the effect of intellectual intelligence, emotional intelligence, spiritual intelligence and creativity on students' entrepreneurial intention. A quantitative approach was used in the form of a survey questionnaire, which was administered to a sample of 197 students in the Faculty of Business and Administration, University of Bucharest, Bucharest, Romania. The findings of the study showed that these cognitive and non-cognitive skills have a positive effect on students' entrepreneurial intention. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of the present article is drawing attention upon our economic students' preference for the use of online resources for business English oral presentations and finding the answers which explain such choices. Moreover, students' selection of their presentation topics themselves has an online motivation based on the wide availability of online resources on various business/economic issues. The applied part of our research consists in a questionnaire addressed to our first year economic students within the Bucharest University of Economic Studies. Actually, this questionnaire comes to justify our assumption that the main reason for the choice comes from the multiple advantages of online sources among which availability occupies a top position. If we were to mention a shortcoming of such sources that would be the question of their reliability. Therefore, teachers' role is decisive here, as they are the ones that can guide their students throughout their research for business English oral presentations. We have questioned a number of 160 students and the conclusion is that all of them have used mainly online bibliographical sources and state that they have not even thought about using library paper books. Their answers reveal certain facts. In the selection process of the online sources things like being as recent as possible, offering rich information count a lot. Another interesting fact is that making the presentation plan comes before finding the right online sources, which may seem risky, but fortunately for every topic (no matter how unique or restrictive like "crypto currency") that they chose, they found appropriate and sufficient online sources.
